1f633814fa hpkg format: compress the whole heap
Instead of handling compression for individual file/attribute data we
do now compress the whole heap where they are stored. This
significantly improves compression ratios. We still divide the
uncompressed data into 64 KiB chunks and use a chunk offset array for
the compressed chunks to allow for quick random access without too much
overhead. The tradeoff is a limited possible compression ratio -- i.e.
we won't be as good as tar.gz (though surprisingly with my test
archives we did better than zip).

The other package file sections (package attributes and TOC) are no
longer compressed individually. Their uncompressed data are simply
pushed onto the heap where the usual compression strategy applies. To
simplify things the repository format has been changed in the same
manner although it doesn't otherwise use the heap, since it only stores
meta data.

Due to the data compression having been exposed in public and private
API, this change touches a lot of package kit using code, including
packagefs and the boot loader packagefs support. The latter two haven't
been tested yet. Moreover packagefs needs a new kind of cache so we
avoid re-reading the same heap chunk for two different data items it
contains.

171fd58c4b package kit: some fixes for multi-version support
* Use enums/constants/functions instead of preprocessor macros.
* Missing include in PackageInfoAttributeValue.h.
* PackageReaderImpl::Init(): Check version before header size and
return B_MISMATCHED_VALUES instead of B_BAD_DATA, if the version
doesn't match. This allows callers to determine the condition and
try a reader for a different version. A more flexible interface for
that case would be nice, but since we want to support the old package
version only temporarily, the current solution should be good enough.

5d0a1da8bf libroot: make all areas executable for old binaries
* If at least one image is either B_HAIKU_ABI_GCC_2_ANCIENT or
B_HAIKU_ABI_GCC_2_BEOS almost all areas are marked as executable.
 * B_EXECUTE_AREA and B_STACK_AREA are made public. The former is enforced since
the introduction of DEP and apps need it to correctly set area protection.
The latter is currently needed only to recognize stack areas and fix their
protection in compatibility mode, but may also be useful if an app wants
to use sigaltstack from POSIX API.

b94857b322 Refactor MIME DB access
* Add class DatabaseLocation. It contains a list of the MIME DB
directory paths plus methods to access type files.
* Move all low-level MIME DB access functions from
database_{support,access} to DatabaseLocation. All code that formerly
used those now requires a DatabaseLocation object. In BMimeType and in
the registrar the default object is used, but the low-level classes
can now be reused with different locations.
* Move get_icon_data() from database_access to database_support and
delete the former, which is now empty.

59a653b51c Support multiple MIME DB directories
Each installation location (system, common, common/non-packaged,
~/config, ~/config/non-package) can now have a read-only data/mime_db
directory. ~/config/settings/beos_mime is now named mime_db as well. The
contents of all directories makes up the MIME DB. Entries in more
specific locations shadow entries in more general locations. Only the
directory in ~/config/settings is where the registrar writes changes to.

The new layout allows packages to contribute entries to the MIME DB by
simply providing the respective files in data/mime_db. Consequently the
user settings directory is supposed to contain only the things the user
has actually changed.

Seems to work fine as far as tested. A few issues, though:
* The registrar doesn't monitor the directories yet, so it doesn't
notice entry changes due to package de-/activation.
* ATM it is not possible to remove a MIME type that is not in the user
settings directory, although the FileTypes GUI suggests that it is.
We'd have to work with white-outs, since we cannot remove the files in
the data/mime_db directories. Or, alternatively, the API has to be
extended and the FileTypes GUI adjusted to disable the "Remove" button
  in such a case.

c1a7e89fc2 Put the label truncation code back in BMenuItem.
Just a few commits ago I moved the label truncation code out of
BMenuItem and into BMCMenuBar because the truncation had to happen
outside of BMenuItem. Turns out, that wasn't true so I'm moving the
label truncation back into BMenuItem and removing the _DrawItems()
method from BMCMenuBar.

Note that the code is not a copy of what was there before, but, the
updated version I created for BMCMenuBar. The main difference is that
I use menuPrivate.Padding() instead of GetItemMargins() and I always
use the width of the parent menu frame instead of using fBounds even
if the state is not MENU_STATE_CLOSED. These are changes needed for
BMCMenuBar but should work just as well for a regular BMenu.

c333966291 Draw truncated menu label in BMCPrivate, fixes #9735
...instead of in BMenuItem and remove the truncation code from BMenuItem.

The label truncation code cannot work in BMenuItem because the super
menu helpfully resizes itself to fit the menu item. So, instead we do the label
truncation in BMCPrivate making sure that BMenuItem there can't expand the
BMCMenuBar because we set the width to fMenuField->_MenuBarWidth()
explicity.

Note that this only truncates the label in BMCMenuField, i.e. the label inside
the menufield, it does nothing to the labels of the menu items in the attached
BMenu or BPopUpMenu which is exactly what we want.

* BuildFeatures: Add a build feature "gcc2" to allow for easier checks.
* Referenceable.cpp: Include <OS.h> instead of <debugger.h>. The latter

* zlib/zutil.h: Fix gcc 2 build. We really should use the external
  package instead.

The AlertPosition method doesn't seem to work right, the window pops up
offset to the right. I also noticed that some of our calls to BAboutWindow
are actually not reacable because we removed Abutrequested from the apps.
Maybe we should clean them up (locale preflet and activity monitor are examples)

More annoying is the fact that opening a modal window from a deskbar replicant
is modal against the whole deskbar. Not sure what to do about that.

ab3c19541d Move B_COLOR_WHICH_COUNT to private ServerReadOnlyMemory header.
This means the B_COLOR_WHICH_COUNT goes from being a public constant to a
private one. It sill looks like a public constant starting with a B_ though.
I hope that's not a big deal. Too bad we can't get the count of an enum.

3302521556 Remove dependence on color constants in ServerReadOnlyMemory.
This fixes a maintainance problem where you have to update this otherwise
unrelated file to keep it in sync whenever you add a color constant.

I've added a B_COLOR_WHICH_COUNT constant to the color_which enum which should
be updated to point to the newest color constants as new ones are added. I
reworked ServerReadOnlyMemory to use this constant instead of using to the
current largest color constant directly. If you use B_COLOR_WHICH_COUNT to
refer to a color in your code expect to get unpredictable and nonsensical
results. Most likely you'll get an undefined result which will return black
but don't depend on it.

The net effect of this is that ServerReadOnlyMemory doesn't need to be updated
anymore when new color constants are introduced but will continue to produce
correct results.

Eliminate kNumColors constant, replace it with B_COLOR_WHICH_COUNT

e85e399fd7 commpage: randomize position of commpage
This patch introduces randomization of commpage position. From now on commpage
table contains offsets from begining to of the commpage to the particular
commpage entry. Similary addresses of symbols in ELF memory image "commpage"
are just offsets from the begining of the commpage.

This patch also updates KDL so that commpage entries are recognized and shown
correctly in stack trace. An update of Debugger is yet to be done.

Set execute disable bit for any page that belongs to area with neither

211f71325a x86: move x86_userspace_thread_exit() from user stack to commpage
x86_userspace_thread_exit() is a stub originally placed at the bottom of
each thread user stack that ensures any thread invokes exit_thread() upon
returning from its main higher level function.

Putting anything that is expected to be executed on a stack causes problems
when implementing data execution prevention. Code of x86_userspace_thread_exit()
is now moved to commpage which seems to be much more appropriate place for it.

a9abcc37cd Rework initial auto joining and add big TODOs.
* If we have a configured network, then we always try to connect to it
as soon as the interface has been brought up.
* If we don't have a configured network and are auto configuring, we
use the AutoconfigLooper to also do initial auto joins.
* Before issuing auto joins we need to wait for scan results to come
in, so we watch for corresponding messages.

For now auto joining is a one shot attempt as the infrastructure to
properly tell reasons for scans apart is not yet there.

5e0c3db286 Account for the physical map area in the kernel VM space. Fixes #9547.
The physical memory map area was not included in the kernel virtual
address space range (it was below KERNEL_BASE). This caused problems
if an I/O operation took place on physical memory mapped there (the
bad address error seen in #9547 was occurring in lock_memory_etc()).
Changed KERNEL_BASE and KERNEL_SIZE to cover the area and add a null
area that covers all of it. Also changed X86VMTranslationMap64Bit to
handle large pages in Query(), as the physical map area uses large
pages.

When the window closes, send a kAboutWindowClosed message back to the

Implement the new about dialog constructor in all apps that use it.
Remove the old constructor. This now works reliably for all cases I
tested without crashing and does the right thing on close. The setup

Unfortunately this seems to be necessary when not using a BAlert.

* For now let's include the same fields in platform_kernel_args
than in the OF version.
* This allows linking the kernel.
Later on we should allow supporting more than a single boot platform,
to have a single kernel per arch.

5c69b8405b Added fallback model string parsing for Intel CPUs.
* When we do not have a predefined model string, we now try to parse
the reported model string into something that is at least usable,

* For models where the parsed type string is acceptable, we could remove
  the predefined ones.

9335e141ba Fix crash when dragging files onto nav menus.
- BNavMenu now keeps its own copy of the cached types list that's passed to it.
In some circumstances it could happen that the container window would
delete the list and consequently the nav menu would wind up with a pointer
to an invalid object. Probably a regression from the async mouse tracking
  rewrites.

19187c464b x86: Initialize IA32_MSR_ENERGY_PERF_BIAS
The lowest 4 bits of the MSR serves as a hint to the hardware to
favor performance or energy saving. 0 means a hint preference for
highest performance while 15 corresponds to the maximum energy
savings. A value of 7 translates into a hint to balance performance
with energy savings.

The default reset value of the MSR is 0. If BIOS doesn't intialize
the MSR, the hardware will run in performance state. This patch
initialize the MSR with value of 7 for balance between performance
and energy savings

59347b7f1b Reverse the meaning of BWindow fShowLevel to match BView.
This also matches the client_window_info.show_hide_level field used in Deskbar
and other applications.

While doing this, keep fShowLevel fully in sync between BWindow and app_server,
use one message type for both hiding and showing, and make the decision to show
and hide the window in the app_server.

Lastly make minimize behave as described in the Be Book: hidden windows cannot
be minimized, and minimized windows which get hidden become unminimized.

* Changed IS_USER_ADDRESS to check an address using USER_BASE and

* Added an unmapped hole at the end of the bottom half of the address

region. This also removes the need to check for uncanonical return
addresses in the syscall handler, it is no longer possible for the
return address to be uncanonical under normal circumstances. All

No major changes to the kernel: just compiled in arch_smp.cpp and fixed the
IDT load in arch_cpu_init_percpu to use the correct limit for x86_64 (uses
sizeof(interrupt_descriptor)). In the boot loader, changed smp_boot_other_cpus
to construct a temporary GDT and get the page directory address from CR3, as
what's in kernel_args will be 64-bit stuff and will not work to switch the
CPUs into 32-bit mode in the trampoline code. Refactored 64-bit kernel entry
code to not use the stack after disabling paging, as the secondary CPUs are
given a 32-bit virtual stack address by the SMP trampoline code which will
no longer work.

The ELF loader now uses a new platform function, platform_allocate_elf_region,
which returns 2 addresses: the real load address and an address where the
region is mapped in the loader's address space. All of the ELF loading code
has been changed to access the load region through the mapped address rather
than the addresses contained in the ELF image. The ELF64 version of
platform_allocate_elf_region on x86 uses the existing MMU code, which maps
everything at 0x80000000, but returns the correct 64-bit address. The long
mode switch code will just set up the 64-bit address space with everything
remapped at the correct address.

69a8b95491 FixedWidthPointer: Fix ==/!= operators, remove OtherType casts
* FixedWidthPointer:
  - operators ==/!=: Change second operand type from void* to const
Type*. Also add non-const version to resolve ambiguity warning when
    comparing with non-const pointer.
  - Add Pointer() getter.
  - Remove templatized cast operators. They are nice for casting the
pointer directly to another pointer type, but result in ambiguity.
* Make preloaded_image::debug_string_table non-const. Avoids clashes of
the const and non-coast FixedWidthPointer comparison operators. A
cleaner (but more verbose) solution would be to spezialize
  FixedWidthPointer for const types.

ccadfaeeb5 Changed the boot ELF code to use templates and added ELF64 support.
The actual implementation of the ELF loading methods have been put into
an ELFLoader template class that takes a single template parameter, which
is a structure containing all the necessary ELF typedefs. It's a bit
verbose, but I thought it was a neater solution than using a bunch of
standalone functions with a huge number of template parameters. There is
no change to code outside of elf.cpp, the ELF32/ELF64 differences are
handled internally.

* There is now 2 structures, preloaded_elf32_image and preloaded_elf64_image,

* For now I've just hardcoded in use of preloaded_elf32_image, but the
bootloader ELF code will shortly be converted to use templates which use
the appropriate structure. The kernel will be changed later when I add
  ELF64 support to it.

d8efc6caf6 Changes to kernel_args to make it identical for x86 and x86_64.
* Added a FixedWidthPointer template class which uses 64-bit storage to hold
a pointer. This is used in place of raw pointers in kernel_args.
* Added __attribute__((packed)) to kernel_args and all structures contained
within it. This is necessary due to different alignment behaviour for
32-bit and 64-bit compilation with GCC.
* With these changes, kernel_args will now come out the same size for both
the x86_64 kernel and the loader, excluding the preloaded_image structure
which has not yet been changed.
* Tested both an x86 GCC2 and GCC4 build, no problems caused by these changes.

93cb9538be Don't store a KMessage in kernel_args for the boot volume, only the buffer address/size.
Pointers in kernel_args are going to be changed to unconditionally use 64-bit
storage (to make kernel_args compatible with both the x86 and x86_64 kernels).
KMessage stores a pointer to its buffer, however since KMessage is used
outside of the boot code it is undesirable to change it to use 64-bit storage
for the pointer as it may add additional overhead on 32-bit builds. Therefore,
only store the buffer address and size and then construct a KMessage from
those in the kernel.

Since ICI arguments are used to send addresses in some places, uint32 is

cc586f1655 x86: AMD C1E with no ARAT(Always Running APIC Timer) idle support
AMD C1E is a BIOS controlled C3 state. Certain processors families
may cut off TSC and the lapic timer when it is in a deep C state,
including C1E state, thus the cpu can't be waken up and system will hang.

This patch firstly adds the support of idle selection during boot. Then
it implements amdc1e_noarat_idle() routine which checks the MSR which
contains the C1eOnCmpHalt (bit 28) and SmiOnCmpHalt (bit 27) before
executing the halt instruction, then clear them once set.

However intel C1E doesn't has such problem. AMD C1E is a BIOS controlled
C3 state. The difference between C1E and C3 is that transition into C1E
is not initiated by the operating system. System will enter C1E state
automatically when both cores enters C1 state. As for intel C1E, it
means "reduce CPU voltage before entering corresponding Cx-state".

This patch may fix #8111, #3999, #7562, #7940 and #8060

Copied from the description of #3999:
>but for some reason I hit the power button instead of the reset one. And
>the boot continued!!
The reason is CPUs are waken up once power button is hit.

* adjust ICUThreadLocalStorageValue to contain the converter pointer

mbstate_t, it points into the mbstate_t).
* adjust users of converters to directly use converter pointers
  instead of ICUConverterRef
* drop now unused ICUConverterManager and ICUConverterRef
* update gcc4 optional package

This brings our multibyte implementation into a fully working state,
both non-ascii and non-8-bit characters can now be handled normally
in the Terminal, i.e. this finally fixes #6276.

N.B.: Since the size of mbstate_t has changed, everything (including

This one works with non-terminated strings that we may need to handle.

5cbe06f482 Allow replacing the object cache with the guarded heap.
This allows to use the debug features of the guarded heap also on
allocations made through the object cache API. This is obivously
horrible for performance and uses up huge amounts of memory, so the
initial and grow sizes are adjusted accordingly.

Note that this is a rather simple hack, using the object_cache pointer
to transport the allocation size. The alignment is neglected completely.

7418dbd908 Introduce debug page wise kernel area protection functions.
This adds a pair of functions vm_prepare_kernel_area_debug_protection()
and vm_set_kernel_area_debug_protection() to set a kernel area up for
page wise protection and to actually protect individual pages
respectively.

It was already possible to read and write protect full areas via area
protection flags and not mapping any actual pages. For areas that
actually have mapped pages this doesn't work however as no fault, at
which the permissions could be checked, is generated on access.

These new functions use the debug helpers of the translation map to mark
individual pages as non-present without unmapping them. This allows them
to be "protected", i.e. causing a fault on read and write access. As they
aren't actually unmapped they can later be marked present again.

Note that these are debug helpers and have quite a few restrictions as
described in the comment above the function and is only useful for some
very specific and constrained use cases.

643cf35ee8 Add debug helper functions to mark pages present.
They can be used to mark pages as present/non-present without actually
unmapping them. Marking pages as non-present causes every access to
fault. We can use that for debugging as it allows us to "read protect"
individual kernel pages.

79f0056002 Fix virtual 8086 mode to properly account for TLS.
* The vm86 code or the code running in virtual 8086 mode may clobber the
%fs register that we use for the CPU dependent thread local storage
(TLS). Previously the vm86 code would simply restore %fs on exit, but
this doesn't always work. If the thread got unscheduled while running
in virtual 8086 mode and was then rescheduled on a different CPU, the
vm86 exit code would restore the %fs register with the TLS value of
the old CPU, causing anything using TLS in userland to crash later on.
Instead we skip the %fs register restore on exit (as do the other
interrupt return functions) and explicitly update the potentially
clobbered %fs by calling x86_set_tls_context(). This will repopulate
the %fs register with the TLS value for the right CPU. Fixes #8068.

* Made the static set_tls_context() into x86_set_tls_context() and made
it available to others to faciliate the above.

* Sync the vm86 specific interrupt code with the changes from hrev23370,
using the iframe pop macro to properly return. Previously what was
pushed in int_bottom wasn't poped on return.

* Account for the time update macro resetting the in_kernel flag and
reset it to 1, as we aren't actually returning to userland. This
didn't cause any harm though as only the time tracking is using that
  flag so far.

* Some minor cleanup.

* Add function vfs_bind_mount_directory() which bind-mounts a directory

cheaper as well. The vnodes connected thus aren't tracked yet, which

8abe72fb66 Changes the menu key bitmap from CTL to CTRL and SHFT to SHIFT.
This is coming from but does not close #7967

Adds a new (currently unused) Menu key bitmap.

Instead of having a single AltAsCommandKey() method the menus now
show the correct bitmap when you switch between your control,
windows/option, and alt/command keys. This is really not flushed
out yet since it only works when you switch those keys and not
other combinations like say switching the control and caps lock
keys but it is a step in the right direction.

54fad654ce Rework the handling of catalog loading in locale kit :
Instead of computing the mime signature and giving this to the catalog system,
give an entry_ref instead. The default catalog add-on can thus look at the
right place when searching local catalogs (embedded as resources, or stored
as files next to the executable.
  * This allows different versions of the same app to each have their own
catalog set,
  * And also make the embedded/local catalog searching work for add-ons and
libs, instead it only worked for apps because of a getAppInfo call.

Fix cpufrequency to make use of it properly (that wouldhave worked without the
change, but nowit's mandatory, since loading a catlog by mimesignature is not
possible anymore).

Should fix #8037.

f0468be384 * Rework how registers are accessed. Most registers are now grouped into
register blocks and we encode their block into the register definition. On
register access these blocks are then translated into the final address.
* Set up the register blocks for (G)MCH and PCH variants.
* Remove most SandyBridge code that was actually PCH specific and is now taken
  care of automatically.
* This will temporarily break SandyBridge support again until the right
  transcoders are actually programmed.

e436a27e5f * Add preliminary support for one SandyBridge mobile integrated graphics device
(the one in my new ThinkPad X1). The PLL is still off a bit so it has a few
blurry stripes, but EDID and mode setting basically works.
* Starting with IronLake the north/south bridge or (G)MCH/ICH setup was moved
into a platform control hub (PCH) which means that many registers previously
located in the GMCH are now in the PCH and have a new address.
* I'm committing this mostly because this way the additions are more easy to
follow. It is a bit messy and I'll clean it up more and possibly make it a
bit more generic. Also most of these changes actually apply to IronLake and up
and aren't SandyBridge specific, so a few of those additions will still get a
broader scope and new chips will be added.

fc2d7cb04d * Introduce {reserve|allocate|free}_io_interrupt_vectors() that can generically
be used to mark certain io interrupt vectors as reserved and to allocate from
the still free ones. It is a kernel private API for now though.
* Make the MSI code use that functionality instead of implementing its own which
slims it down considerably and also removes quite a bit of hardcoded knowledge
about the interrupt layout that didn't really belong there.
* Mark the various in-use interrupts as reserved from the components that
actually know about them (PIC, IO-APIC, SMP, APIC timer and interrupt setup).

7d7b963225 * Remove the BNetworkDevice::AddPersistentNetwork() again and instead introduce
BNetworkRoster::{Count|GetNext|Add|Remove}PersistentNetwork() as it fits
better (thanks Philippe for the heads up).
* Implement the backend for these functions in the net_server and also move
conversion of the wireless_network based format into the settings based format
  there.
* Implement removal of a network from the settings and make adding a new network
with the same name replace the old one instead of just adding multiple ones.
Might need to change this in the future depending on how we want to handle
multiple networks with the same name (i.e. distinguish based on BSSID or
  similar).
* Fix apparent oversight that caused configured networks _not_ to be used in the
  auto join attempt.
* Remove auto joining open networks. I've been bitten by that more than once now
because we happen to have an open network in the neighbourhood that I now
accidentally used to transfer quite a bit of (unencrypted) stuff before
noticing... In the future, one will instead have to explicitly join an open
network once and store that config. Note that the driver will actually still
auto-associate with open networks due to how things are set up currently.
Note also that the auto join will fire join requests whenever there's a
disassociation event, so you might see spurious join dialogs when the
wpa_supplicant actually just re-establishes the connection.
* Make join requests async again. Instead of waiting for a synchronous reply of
the wpa_supplicant we instead return success when the request has been sent.
While the API call might still be made synchronous again in the future, the
net_server should really not block on an external application. In the case of
the wpa_supplicant we would otherwise deadlock when using the new
*PersistentNetwork() API after a successful join, and in other cases we might
  just unacceptably delay other calls.

d61a8548f9 Add support for bind-mounting directories
* Add support function vfs_get_mount_point(), so a file system can get
its own mount point (i.e. the node it covers). Re-added
fs_mount::covers_vnode for that purpose -- the root node isn't know to
the VFS before the mount() hook returns.
* Add function vfs_bind_mount_directory() which bind-mounts a directory
to another. The Vnode::covers/covered_by mechanism is used, so this
isn't true bind-mounting, but sufficient for what we need ATM and
cheaper as well. The vnodes connected thus aren't tracked yet, which
is needed for undoing the connection when unmounting.
* get_vnode_name(): Don't use dir_read() to read the directory. Since we
have already resolved vnode to the covered vnode, we don't want the
dirents to be "fixed" to refer to the covering nodes. Such a vnode
  simply wouldn't be found.

cbc85916fb Add boot loader packagefs support
* Add pread().
* Add Node::ReadLink() to read a symbolic link path.
* Add Directory::LookupDontTraverse() and make Lookup() non-abstract.
Lookup() is implemented via LookupDontTraverse() and Node::ReadLink().
* Adjust all FS implementations accordingly.
* Add a packagefs implementation. Unlike other FS implementations it
  isn't a pseudo-module, but provides a function to explicitly mount a
  package file (packagefs_mount_file()).
* Finish BootVolume::SetTo() implementation, mounting the package file
  and replacing fSystemDirectory.

Now the boot loader can load the kernel and boot modules from a packaged
system. The kernel boots up to the point where the boot volume is
mounted.

596bb6891a * Finally rewrote the filthy, busy-looping, mouse tracking in Tracker.
The new asynchronous tracking doesn't lock the view and makes desktop
replicants happy while clicking and dragging around. Fixes #880, #7241
and certainly other tickets, that i will revisit, about refresh locks
on the desktop or mouse related bugs. Based on a reusable MessageFilter and the
recent B_MOUSE_IDLE message. Some parts are ported from the old code
and could use further simplification.

There should be no intentional user fonctional change, except:
- slightly bigger threshold radius, shorter duration thresholds
 (= 1.0 x the system-wide doubleclick setting)
- not reimplemented: quickening threshold when holding shift while dragging
a pose over a destination pose.

Some parts are ported from the old code and could use further simplification.
There is one known minor regression with autoscrolling while
rect-selecting but that will be better fixed with some changes to the
autoscroll code. Will address that ASAP. As for the unknown regressions,
please test :)

34f0d87a9d Add initialize[_to_extended_joystick]() methods to variable_joystick. With those
methods the members are populated, the flat data size is calcualted, the data
buffer is allocated and the convenience pointers are set up automatically. With
initialize() an arbitrary configuration can be created, with
initialize_to_extended_joystick() a configuration is created that exactly
matches the data structure of the extended_joystick struct.
Having them here makes it easy to use the structure from a driver as well
without the need to set up everything manually.

ab1763688f * Replace the fixed size extended_joystick structure with a variably sized one
inside BJoystick.
* Add joystick_module_info flag to communicate support for variably sized reads.
* The variably sized data structure is set up to describe either the actual
amount of data, when variably sized reads are supported by the driver, or it
is set up so that it exactly matches the data layout of the extended_joystick
structure. This allows us to support both as input data, while only needing to
care about a single format inside BJoystick. Convenience pointers allow the
data to be retrieved without additional overhead or extra logic.
* Add some sanity checks and ensure some boundaries when dealing reading data
from the variably sized structure (as there might not be any buttons, hats,
  axis at all now).
* Ensure that the extended_joystick structure doesn't change in size due to
padding by making it _PACKED (it wasn't padded though).

This is still supposed to work exactly as before. However, it opens up the
possibility to actually support arbitrary controllers with arbitrary axis, hat
and button counts. It therefore allows to actually deliver what the BJoystick
API was designed to handle all along.

8837310ce7 * Slightly alter the semantics of the input gathering function to take the
menu item it's associated with rather than an input string. This allows it

* Implement input buffer scrolling, and consequently lift the previous size
limit on user input (it is now only limited by the size of the passed in

* Implement parsing of the input buffer to allow it to handle comma-separated

and it will be handled properly.

b46615c55a Applied patch by Joseph "looncraz" Groover from ticket #7445.
This changes how Decorators are managed and applied. The app_server
no longer scans and maintains the available ones himself, but is
simply asked to load a Decorator add-on from a provided path.
The Decorator scanning is moved into DecorInfo and DecorInfoUtil,
private classes in the InterfaceKit. The bin command 'setdecor'
uses those.
I cleaned up all the coding style violations that I could find,
removed chunks of code which didn't make sense (if you never put
a NULL pointer into a list, you don't need to check for this and
so on) and also cleaned up other passages for improved clarity
and simplicity.
I also tested the functionality and it works fine. Would even be

fb5a1727f4 * Implement interrupt source overrides. We install a relay interrupt handler
at the override entry to trigger the overriden vector so that we don't need

* Also configures the polarity and trigger modes found in the override entry.
* When disabling the legacy PIC, retrieve the enabled interrupts and re-enable
then in the IO-APIC. This will for example make the ACPI SCI work that is
installed prior to switching interrupt models. Through the transparent support
for interrupt source overrides it'll also automatically relay from the old to
  the new vector.

This should make ACPI interrupts work and should support relocating the ISA PIT
from irq 0 to a different global system interrupt (usually 2) so that it can
still work when IO-APICs are in use.

8908aef9c2 * Don't map the IO-APIC within the bootloader. We don't need it to set up SMP
at all and, since there can be multiple IO-APICs, we need to do the
enumeration again in the kernel anyway. Also only set ioapic_phys the first
time we encounter an IO-APIC object as it looks cleaner when we arrive at the
  first IO-APIC default address.
* Therefore we don't have to worry about already mapped IO-APICs when
  enumerating them in the kernel.
* Also remove the mapping function that is now not used anymore.
* We still use the ioapic_phys field of the kernel args to determine whether
there is an IO-APIC at all to avoid needlessly doing the enumeration again.

This fixes multi IO-APIC configurations, because before we would indeed map
the last IO-APIC listed in the MADT, but then in the kernel assumed we mapped
the first one. We'd end up with mapping the last listed IO-APIC twice and the
first IO-APIC never, always programming the last one when we actually targetted
the first one.

a56cbb2afb * When initializing MSI support, don't assume a single 24 entry IO-APIC. Instead
mark the ISA interrupts as unusable and then use ioapic_is_interrupt_available
to determine if that vector is possibly taken by an IO-APIC. If IO-APICs are
not used, this will simply always return false, leaving all vectors free for
  MSI use.
* The msi_init() now has to be done after a potential IO-APIC init, so it is now
done after ioapic_init() instead of inside apic_init().
* Add apic_disable_local_ints() to clear the local ints on the local APIC once
we are in APIC mode (i.e. the IO-APIC is set up and we don't need the external
  routing anymore).

af2da315dc Fix the larger problem that was hiding behind the build problem of set_haiku_revsion on FreeBSD:
* the length of the sHaikuRevision character array symbol needs to be set explicitly,
as using either _SYS_NAMELEN or sizeof(utsname::version) will only return the values
for the host, which may not match ours, thus potentially causing problems when using
  sHaikuRevision
* add headers/private/system_revision.h which defines SYSTEM_REVISION_LENGTH to 128
* adjust definitions of sHaikuRevision in libroot and kernel accordingly
utsname::version is shorter than SYSTEM_REVISION_LENGTH, but that doesn't cause any harm
until we have indeed switched to a DVCS (in which case longer revision strings will be
cut off by 'uname').
