ab21cedcce Remove docs and refactor style of TextView class.
* Make pointer style consistent, const char* name instead of const char *name.
* Lots of parameter renaming.
* in parameters don't get anything special, just font, or length instead of
  inFont, inLength.
* out parameters get a leading _ so *outWidth becomes *_width for example.
* We don't detail private function in the Haiku book and this class has a bunch
so keep the documentation in the file but use regular comments instead.
* Normalize the parameter names between cpp file and header.
* Some minor whitespace fixes.

No functional change intended.

4a0460a9bc Add generic unlock key setting and removal.
* Replace {Set|Remove}MasterKey() by generic {Set|Remove}UnlockKey()
  that works on a keyring.
* Implement {Set|Remove}MasterUnlockKey() on top of that.
* Rename the commands and constants accrodingly.
* Implement setting and removing keyring unlock keys.

d4d6d12393 Don't require a key when creating a new keyring.
There will be key setting/removal functions so the step of adding the
keyring and setting a key on it can be done individually.

8775bd129d Remove old TODO as we don't support multiple instances for now.
As there aren't any more generic meta data containers inside BKey,
there's no real way to distinguish different instances with the same
identifiers. This may be added later, for example the same index system
as used in BMessage could apply.

f8ccc32326 Remove the API part of the concept of apps per key.
The application access concept is on the keyring level only for now.
Generally it probably would get pretty complicated and therefore harder
to use when application access needs to be granted on a per key basis.

c8ae843f3d Rename keyring "access/revoke" to "unlock/lock".

51ab46a83c Remove the purpose argument from all GetKey() variants.
The type is relevant and required as it determines the type of the
handed in key. The purpose however isn't actually needed and rather
inconvenient to get by depending on the situation.

94f897deea Make Flatten/Unflatten public and remove IsRegistered().
The BKey doesn't know anything about the keyring concept, so the
registered info isn't really useful. May be re-added later with
keyring info as well.

005a15bbcd Move keystore message constants and use a messenger.
* The keystore backend will (at least for the time being) reside in a
separate server. This one can be reached via normal messaging, so use
a BMessenger for sending key messages.
* Move the message constants from RegistrarDefs.h into a new
KeyStoreDefs.h that also contains the server signature.
* Update the message constants to reflect the new situation.

Michael Lotz
1c3996496b Implement all KeyStore methods except for password generation.
* Add all relevant message constants.
* Implement the messaging to send/retrieve key info.
* Implement _Flatten/_Unflatten for sending flat BKey objects.
* Remove application list from BKey, the key can't only differ by
allowed applications as the identifiers would still collide, so the
comparison isn't needed to uniquely identify the key. The applications
can be enumerated via the BKeyStore instead.

dc1acef865 Flesh out the API and implement stubs.
* Modified the API greatly to be based on BKey* instead of BPassword*.
* Added BKeyPurpose and used it instead of BKeyType. It is supposed to
indicate the purpose of a key so that an app can look up keys on a
more granular level. The BKeyType on the other hand actually
identifies the type (i.e. subclass of BKey) so an app knows how to
handle a given key or may only enumerate/use keys it is compatible
  with.
* Made everything based on a raw data buffer for now, only BPasswordKey
is implemented yet which stores the (0 terminated) string into that
  data buffer.
* Removed the additional data BMessage as I don't yet see where it fits
in. While I could imagine adding meta data to a key may be nice it
might be an interoperability concern when keys are shared by
  different apps.
* Moved the app functions to the keystore as per the TODO, but not sure
  how to actually implement them.

6d5fae2a5a Move resources docs to Haiku Book
* Remove docs from Resources.cpp (leaving the brief description).
* Reformat Resources.h to style it like so many other header files.
* There is one not-entirely style based change. I renamed the outSize

  parameters.

443522551e Fixed design issues in BPartitionParameterEditor.
* The user of an editor needed knowledge about the editor in order to make
  use of it.
* Furthermore, the BPartitionParameterEditor exposed type specific
functionality that it shouldn't know anything about, either.
* We may now define a number of known parameters per editor type; right now
there is only "type" as it's needed by DriveSetup.
* Adapted all disk systems, and DriveSetup to the new API.
* Renamed CreateParamsPanel, and InitializeParamsPanel to *ParametersPanel
  in DriveSetup.
* They now share a common base class AbstractParametersPanel.

Since we're using multi-part uImage format, we can add the FDT as

3fdab58446 Set the about window object to NULL on close or quit.
Pass the BHandler object that opened the about window to BAboutWindow.
When the window closes, send a kAboutWindowClosed message back to the
handler. This allows the handler to set the variable to NULL.

Implement the new about dialog constructor in all apps that use it.
Remove the old constructor. This now works reliably for all cases I
tested without crashing and does the right thing on close. The setup
and teardown is a bit more complicated than I wanted though.
Unfortunately this seems to be necessary when not using a BAlert.

Fetching the app icon does not work reliably yet. This is because for
replicants the app may not be running. I may have to pass the icon in
instead of grabbing it from the signature.

instead of trying to make it follow fExpando just make it a fixed

When the window grows taller than the screenframe the arrows are
added. You can scroll with the mouse wheel, but I haven't yet gotten

cb55ef9fb5 WIP: Created a BScrollMenu class that works like BMenuWindow but works on a view instead of a window. Use this to implement a scrollable BarMenuBar in Deskbar. The basics work but there are issues still with sizing and other issues.
Modify the ScrollMenu class to use the layout kit by adding a constructor that doesn't take a view.

Get the BScrollMenu class to follow the size of the BMenu it is a parent of. Adjust the scrollers to appear in the right places. This is a WIP but it works in Deskbar, next step is to integrate this directly into BMenu with the scrollers as children of the menu instead of as children of the BScroller class.

Rebase changes on top of master

Deskbar scrolling works for the most part, just need to fix the
bottom arrow and clean up a bit.

09d87d9151 The text control is now more flexible with its layout items.
* Before, you had to have both, the text view layout item, and the label
layout item or else nothing would ever be visible.
* Now you can only create the text view item, and it will still work.
* Also, no matter the order you added the layout items, they would always
put the label on the left, and the control to the right.
* You can place the label and text view layout items anywhere now, although
you should keep in mind that the view spans over their frame unions; IOW
they should always adjacent to each other, but not necessarily horizontally
  and left to right.
* No longer uses a fixed label spacing, but utilizes
  BControlLook::DefaultLabelSpacing() instead.
* However, the spacing is always added to the right of the label, no matter
how you place it in the layout. Maybe one wants to add a SetLabelTextViewGap()

19187c464b x86: Initialize IA32_MSR_ENERGY_PERF_BIAS
The lowest 4 bits of the MSR serves as a hint to the hardware to
favor performance or energy saving. 0 means a hint preference for
highest performance while 15 corresponds to the maximum energy
savings. A value of 7 translates into a hint to balance performance
with energy savings.

The default reset value of the MSR is 0. If BIOS doesn't intialize
the MSR, the hardware will run in performance state. This patch
initialize the MSR with value of 7 for balance between performance
and energy savings

59347b7f1b Reverse the meaning of BWindow fShowLevel to match BView.
This also matches the client_window_info.show_hide_level field used in Deskbar

While doing this, keep fShowLevel fully in sync between BWindow and app_server,
use one message type for both hiding and showing, and make the decision to show

Lastly make minimize behave as described in the Be Book: hidden windows cannot
be minimized, and minimized windows which get hidden become unminimized.

a43b1ed6d8 Split fs_darwin.h defines into various platform dependent headers.
This completes the final 1/3 of #8857. Changes again by nielx with
style fixes by me.

The one part that I couldn't figure out, and maybe Ingo can chime
in here. If headers/build/host/darwin/sys/stat.h is surrounded in

extern "C" {

}

guards then I get a link error complaining that the functions defined
here are duplicate symbols, once in fs.o and once in function_remapper.o.
For example:

ld: duplicate symbol _futimens in generated/objects/darwin/x86_64/release/build/libroot/libroot_build_function_remapper.a(function_remapper.o) and generated/objects/darwin/x86_64/release/build/libroot/libroot_build.a(fs.o) for architecture x86_64

I'm not sure why that is.

e77304562d Actually sort the translator menu used in ShowImage.
There were two problems with the last commit:

* the list needed to be outside of the top-level loop.
* BList was just broken for sorting translation_format pointers.

I fixed this by moving the loop outside and converting the translation_formats
to translator_info, which has the translator_id, since that is needed to create
the menu item, and would otherwise be unavailable outside the loop.

I tried to get this working with BList, but the sorting was completely broken,
and converting to BObjectList made the code much, much better and worked great.
Screw BList and casting, hurray templated BObjectList.

Really fixes #6782.

This is used by ShowImage and CodyCam to create a list of image formats which a

which I think are superfluous.)

Fixes #6782.

* Changed IS_USER_ADDRESS to check an address using USER_BASE and

* Added an unmapped hole at the end of the bottom half of the address

region. This also removes the need to check for uncanonical return
addresses in the syscall handler, it is no longer possible for the
return address to be uncanonical under normal circumstances. All

sizeof(interrupt_descriptor)). In the boot loader, changed smp_boot_other_cpus
to construct a temporary GDT and get the page directory address from CR3, as
what's in kernel_args will be 64-bit stuff and will not work to switch the
CPUs into 32-bit mode in the trampoline code. Refactored 64-bit kernel entry
code to not use the stack after disabling paging, as the secondary CPUs are
given a 32-bit virtual stack address by the SMP trampoline code which will
no longer work.

e5fc2bfcab Implemented long mode setup/switch code, the bootloader can now start the 64-bit kernel!
The setup procedure is fairly simple: create a 64-bit GDT and 64-bit page
tables that include all kernel mappings from the 32-bit address space, but at
the correct 64-bit address, then go through kernel_args and changes all virtual
addresses to 64-bit addresses, and finally switch to long mode and jump to the
kernel.

6f6d78e877 Cleaned up ELF64 address handling.
* platform_allocate_elf_region() is removed, it is implemented in platform-
independent code now (ELF*Class::AllocateRegion). For ELF64 it is now
assumed that 64-bit addresses are mapped in the loader's 32-bit address space
  as (address - KERNEL_BASE_64BIT + KERNEL_BASE).
* mapped_delta field from preloaded_*_image removed, now handled compile-time
  using the ELF*Class::Map method.
* Also link the kernel with -z max-page-size=0x1000, removes the need for
2MB alignment on the data segment (not going to map the kernel with large
  pages for the time being).

8846189866 Handle 64-bit load addresses for ELF64 images in the bootloader.
The ELF loader now uses a new platform function, platform_allocate_elf_region,
which returns 2 addresses: the real load address and an address where the
region is mapped in the loader's address space. All of the ELF loading code
has been changed to access the load region through the mapped address rather
than the addresses contained in the ELF image. The ELF64 version of
platform_allocate_elf_region on x86 uses the existing MMU code, which maps
everything at 0x80000000, but returns the correct 64-bit address. The long
mode switch code will just set up the 64-bit address space with everything
remapped at the correct address.

  - operators ==/!=: Change second operand type from void* to const
Type*. Also add non-const version to resolve ambiguity warning when
    comparing with non-const pointer.
  - Add Pointer() getter.
  - Remove templatized cast operators. They are nice for casting the
pointer directly to another pointer type, but result in ambiguity.
* Make preloaded_image::debug_string_table non-const. Avoids clashes of
the const and non-coast FixedWidthPointer comparison operators. A
cleaner (but more verbose) solution would be to spezialize

ccadfaeeb5 Changed the boot ELF code to use templates and added ELF64 support.
The actual implementation of the ELF loading methods have been put into
an ELFLoader template class that takes a single template parameter, which
is a structure containing all the necessary ELF typedefs. It's a bit
verbose, but I thought it was a neater solution than using a bunch of
standalone functions with a huge number of template parameters. There is
no change to code outside of elf.cpp, the ELF32/ELF64 differences are
handled internally.

d8efc6caf6 Changes to kernel_args to make it identical for x86 and x86_64.
* Added a FixedWidthPointer template class which uses 64-bit storage to hold

* Added __attribute__((packed)) to kernel_args and all structures contained

32-bit and 64-bit compilation with GCC.
* With these changes, kernel_args will now come out the same size for both

which has not yet been changed.
* Tested both an x86 GCC2 and GCC4 build, no problems caused by these changes.

93cb9538be Don't store a KMessage in kernel_args for the boot volume, only the buffer address/size.
Pointers in kernel_args are going to be changed to unconditionally use 64-bit
storage (to make kernel_args compatible with both the x86 and x86_64 kernels).
KMessage stores a pointer to its buffer, however since KMessage is used
outside of the boot code it is undesirable to change it to use 64-bit storage
for the pointer as it may add additional overhead on 32-bit builds. Therefore,
only store the buffer address and size and then construct a KMessage from
those in the kernel.

Left align StringViews using layout API by default falling back
to the alignment settings set by SetAlignment() only if

as a fallback.

3cf2d117e5 Change Time Format Options in Deskbar preferences.
Added two new methods to the Locale Kit in order to create a custom time
formats from a format string. One method is outputs into a char* array,
the other into a BString() and you can set the timezone.

These methods should be cleaned up, we only need 2, one to get
the time in a predefined style, the other to get a custom time format.
Also should probably do the same for dates and datetimes. But I'll let
this go for now.

I added myself to the Locale.cpp file. I retained the copyright instead
of assigning it to Haiku, Inc. because the file is under the OpenBeOS
license and I don't know what the concequences of copyright sharing are
for that license, unlike MIT.

These new methods are used to generate custom time formats in Deskbar.
Instead of using a set of Radio Buttons to choose between the predefined
time options I build my own by creating a format string and passing it
to the Locale Kit. The format string is generated from 3 checkboxes,
show seconds, show day of week, and show time zone. You can mix and match
between them choose any that you like. By default they are all off.

There are 3 new deskbar settings associated with these new options:
showSeconds, showDayOfWeek, and showTimeZone. timeFormat has gone away.

The time format string gets cached and updated only when Update() gets called
on the TimeView class.

In order to fit all the options in (there is 1 more than before) I had to
reduce the font size of the clock to 11pt when all options are turned on in
12 hour mode. For those with no imagination it looks like this:

http://imagebin.org/208162

Renamed "Open time preferences..." menuitem to "Time preferences...".
Renamed "Show Time" and "Hide Time" to "Show time" and "Hide time".

Other changes include refactoring the header files a bit. There were a lot
of headers included by header files uneccessarily. For instance BarWindow.h
now only includes <Window.h> and <Deskbar.h>. This change is mainly to
to speed up the compile time since it takes a while right now.

I copy the fBarView pointer from BarWindow in the BarApp constructor and then
use that throughout the file rather than getting the pointer from the window
each time by calling BarView(). BarView() is still available in the header
for other classes though.

I moved some message constants around since it was getting a bit jumbled.
Most of the messages related to settings are in PreferenceWindow.h.
fChangeState is moved to BarView.h since that is where the ChangeState()
function is and BarView.cpp uses that constant.

The time interval and format constants are in TimeView.h.

Make some methods public in their respective classes where it made sense.
The preference window methods to update dependent items are public, that
might get called from BarWindow when a message gets received at some point.

Also made ShowHideTime() and Time() public in StatusView.h. These methods
activate showing and hiding the clock and return the fTime clock object.
No reason they should be private.

I reindented the StatusView.h and PreferenceWindow.h headers to the standard
style. Question here, are the public: protected: and private: lines inside
of classes suppose to get indented 1 tab or not? I've seen both, the style
guide says no indent but 1 indent seems reasonable and looks pretty good.

Style fixes here and there. That's enough for one commit I think.

cc586f1655 x86: AMD C1E with no ARAT(Always Running APIC Timer) idle support
AMD C1E is a BIOS controlled C3 state. Certain processors families
may cut off TSC and the lapic timer when it is in a deep C state,
including C1E state, thus the cpu can't be waken up and system will hang.

This patch firstly adds the support of idle selection during boot. Then
it implements amdc1e_noarat_idle() routine which checks the MSR which
contains the C1eOnCmpHalt (bit 28) and SmiOnCmpHalt (bit 27) before
executing the halt instruction, then clear them once set.

However intel C1E doesn't has such problem. AMD C1E is a BIOS controlled
C3 state. The difference between C1E and C3 is that transition into C1E
is not initiated by the operating system. System will enter C1E state
automatically when both cores enters C1 state. As for intel C1E, it
means "reduce CPU voltage before entering corresponding Cx-state".

This patch may fix #8111, #3999, #7562, #7940 and #8060

Copied from the description of #3999:
>but for some reason I hit the power button instead of the reset one. And
>the boot continued!!
The reason is CPUs are waken up once power button is hit.

7c369a4b3f Fix gcc2 build on Mac OS X Lion.
The gcc2 cross-compiler built on Mac OS X Lion has a bug in it
where it is erroring with 'cast specifies signature type' when
assigning 0 or NULL to a pointer to a member fuction. NULL in this
instance is correctly converted to 0 since it is illegal to assign
((void*)0) to a pointer to a member function. However, it should
be legal to assign 0 to a pointer to a member function. Thus, there
is a bug. Since I can't fix the gcc2 compiler I am working around
this bug by assigning the pointer to a do nothing function instead.

My host compiler version is
i686-apple-darwin11-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)

The same error occurs using the default gcc-llvm compiler and
a standard gcc 4.61 built from source. This bug does not occur on
Mac OS X 10.6 gcc2 or gcc4, nor does it occur on Mac OS X 10.7 with
the gcc4 cross-compiler.

If and when we decide to finally leave gcc2 behind we can revert this
change.

d452ff664c Added some reserved fields to BControlLook.
* This makes future changes less troublesome, although we should also add
some virtual slots there (probably just dozens of it, though, that's why
  I was being lazy).
* Don't pass messages by value; they are copied twice this way.
* Minor coding style corrections, automatic whitespace cleanup.

d63b75faf8 Outline of labels/strings drawn to desktop
* Rather than duplicating the decision taking logic involving wheter or not to draw
the outline or glow in every replicant, update be_control_look to make it more
generic.
* The Monitoring of the background preferences is now only done in Tracker (where it
was already being done).
* Add a BControlLook::B_IGNORE_OUTLINE flag to avoid this new behaviour.
* Remove that said logic from ActivityMonitor and use be_control_look.
* Use the ignore flag in DeskCalc to avoid the outline in its case.

Should fix #7716, #7291.

8dd1e875c1 kernel: Fix FPU SSE + MMX instruction usage.
* Rename init_sse to init_fpu and handle FPU setup.
* Stop trying to set up FPU before VM init.
We tried to set up the FPU before VM init, then
set it up again after VM init with SSE extensions,
this caused SSE and MMX applications to crash.
* Be more logical in FPU setup by detecting CPU flag prior
to enabling FPU. (it's unlikely Haiku will run on
a processor without a fpu... but lets be consistant)
* SSE2 gcc code now runs (faster even) without GPF
* tqh confirms his previously crashing mmx code now works
* The non-SSE FPU enable after VM init needs tested!
