For TTBCR2, we do want the high 32-bits of a uint64_t.

The MVE extension to v8.1M includes some new shift instructions which
sit entirely within the non-coprocessor part of the encoding space
and which operate only on general-purpose registers. They take up
the space which was previously UNPREDICTABLE MOVS and ORRS encodings
with Rm == 13 or 15.
Implement the long shifts by immediate, which perform shifts on a
pair of general-purpose registers treated as a 64-bit quantity, with
an immediate shift count between 1 and 32.
Awkwardly, because the MOVS and ORRS trans functions do not UNDEF for
the Rm==13,15 case, we need to explicitly emit code to UNDEF for the
cases where v8.1M now requires that. (Trying to change MOVS and ORRS
is too difficult, because the functions that generate the code are
shared between a dozen different kinds of arithmetic or logical
instruction for all A32, T16 and T32 encodings, and for some insns
and some encodings Rm==13,15 are valid.)
We make the helper functions we need for UQSHLL and SQSHLL take
a 32-bit value which the helper casts to int8_t because we'll need
these helpers also for the shift-by-register insns, where the shift
count might be < 0 or > 32.

The initial implementation of the MVE VRMLALDAVH and VRMLSLDAVH
insns had some bugs:
* the 32x32 multiply of elements was being done as 32x32->32,
not 32x32->64
* we were incorrectly maintaining the accumulator in its full
72-bit form across all 4 beats of the insn; in the pseudocode
it is squashed back into the 64 bits of the RdaHi:RdaLo
registers after each beat
In particular, fixing the second of these allows us to recast
the implementation to avoid 128-bit arithmetic entirely.
Since the element size here is always 4, we can also drop the
parameterization of ESIZE to make the code a little more readable.

In a CPU with MVE, the VMOV (vector lane to general-purpose register)
and VMOV (general-purpose register to vector lane) insns are not
predicated, but they are subject to beatwise execution if they
are not in an IT block.
Since our implementation always executes all 4 beats in one tick,
this means only that we need to handle PSR.ECI:
* we must do the usual check for bad ECI state
* we must advance ECI state if the insn succeeds
* if ECI says we should not be executing the beat corresponding
to the lane of the vector register being accessed then we
should skip performing the move
Note that if PSR.ECI is non-zero then we cannot be in an IT block.

A few subcases of VLDR/VSTR sysreg succeed but do not perform a
memory access:
* VSTR of VPR when unprivileged
* VLDR to VPR when unprivileged
* VLDR to FPCXT_NS when fpInactive
In these cases, even though we don't do the memory access we should
still update the base register and perform the stack limit check if
the insn's addressing mode specifies writeback. Our implementation
failed to do this, because we handle these side-effects inside the
memory_to_fp_sysreg() and fp_sysreg_to_memory() callback functions,
which are only called if there's something to load or store.
Fix this by adding an extra argument to the callbacks which is set to
true to actually perform the access and false to only do side effects
like writeback, and calling the callback with do_access = false
for the three cases listed above.
This produces slightly suboptimal code for the case of a write
to FPCXT_NS when the FPU is inactive and the insn didn't have
side effects (ie no writeback, or via VMSR), in which case we'll
generate a conditional branch over an unconditional branch.
But this doesn't seem to be important enough to merit requiring
the callback to report back whether it generated any code or not.

The M-profile architecture requires that accesses to FPCXT_NS when
there is no active FP state must not take a NOCP fault even if the
FPU is disabled. We were not implementing this correctly, because
in our decode we catch the NOCP faults early in m-nocp.decode.
Fix this bug by moving all the handling of M-profile FP system
register accesses from vfp.decode into m-nocp.decode and putting
it above the NOCP blocks. This provides the correct behaviour:
* for accesses other than FPCXT_NS the trans functions call
vfp_access_check(), which will check for FPU disabled and
raise a NOCP exception if necessary
* for FPCXT_NS we have the special case code that doesn't
call vfp_access_check()
* when these trans functions want to raise an UNDEF they return
false, so the decoder will fall through into the NOCP blocks.
This means that NOCP correctly takes precedence over UNDEF
for these insns. (This is a difference from the other insns
handled by m-nocp.decode, where UNDEF takes precedence and
which we implement by having those trans functions call
unallocated_encoding() in the appropriate places.)
[Note for backport to stable: this commit has a semantic dependency
on commit 9a486856e9, which was not marked as cc-stable because
we didn't know we'd need it for a for-stable bugfix.]

If the guest makes an FPCXT_NS access when the FPU is disabled,
one of two things happens:
* if there is no active FP context, then the insn behaves the
same way as if the FPU was enabled: writes ignored, reads
same value as FPDSCR_NS
* if there is an active FP context, then we take a NOCP
exception
Add code to the sysreg read/write functions which emits
code to take the NOCP exception in the latter case.
At the moment this will never be used, because the NOCP checks in
m-nocp.decode happen first, and so the trans functions are never
called when the FPU is disabled. The code will be needed when we
move the sysreg access insns to before the NOCP patterns in the
following commit.

In commit a3494d4671 we reworked the M-profile handling of its
checks for when the NOCP exception should be raised because the FPU
is disabled, so that (in line with the architecture) the NOCP check
is done early over a large range of the encoding space, and takes
precedence over UNDEF exceptions. As part of this, we removed the
code from full_vfp_access_check() which raised an exception there for
M-profile with the FPU disabled, because it was no longer reachable.
For MVE, some instructions which are outside the "coprocessor space"
region of the encoding space must nonetheless do "is the FPU enabled"
checks and possibly raise a NOCP exception. (In particular this
covers the MVE-specific low-overhead branch insns LCTP, DLSTP and
WLSTP.) To support these insns, reinstate the code in
full_vfp_access_check(), so that their trans functions can call
vfp_access_check() and get the correct behaviour.

On A-profile, PSR bits [15:10][26:25] are always the IT state bits.
On M-profile, some of the reserved encodings of the IT state are used
to instead indicate partial progress through instructions that were
interrupted partway through by an exception and can be resumed.
These resumable instructions fall into two categories:
(1) load/store multiple instructions, where these bits are called
"ICI" and specify the register in the ldm/stm list where execution
should resume. (Specifically: LDM, STM, VLDM, VSTM, VLLDM, VLSTM,
CLRM, VSCCLRM.)
(2) MVE instructions subject to beatwise execution, where these bits
are called "ECI" and specify which beats in this and possibly also
the following MVE insn have been executed.
There are also a few insns (LE, LETP, and BKPT) which do not use the
ICI/ECI bits but must leave them alone.
Otherwise, we should raise an INVSTATE UsageFault for any attempt to
execute an insn with non-zero ICI/ECI bits.
So far we have been able to ignore ECI/ICI, because the architecture
allows the IMPDEF choice of "always restart load/store multiple from
the beginning regardless of ICI state", so the only thing we have
been missing is that we don't raise the INVSTATE fault for bad guest
code. However, MVE requires that we honour ECI bits and do not
rexecute beats of an insn that have already been executed.
Add the support in the decoder for handling ECI/ICI:
* identify the ECI/ICI case in the CONDEXEC TB flags
* when a load/store multiple insn succeeds, it updates the ECI/ICI
state (both in DisasContext and in the CPU state), and sets a flag
to say that the ECI/ICI state was handled
* if we find that the insn we just decoded did not handle the
ECI/ICI state, we delete all the code that we just generated for
it and instead emit the code to raise the INVFAULT. This allows
us to avoid having to update every non-MVE non-LDM/STM insn to
make it check for "is ECI/ICI set?".
We continue with our existing IMPDEF choice of not caring about the
ICI state for the load/store multiples and simply restarting them
from the beginning. Because we don't allow interrupts in the middle
of an insn, the only way we would see this state is if the guest set
ICI manually on return from an exception handler, so it's a corner
case which doesn't merit optimisation.
ICI update for LDM/STM is simple -- it always zeroes the state. ECI
update for MVE beatwise insns will be a little more complex, since
the ECI state may include information for the following insn.

The sequence cpu_restore_state() + raise_exception() is equivalent to
raise_exception_ra(), so use that instead. (In this case we never
cared about the syndrome value, because M-profile doesn't use the
syndrome; the old code was just written unnecessarily awkwardly.)

The DAIF and PAC checks used raise_exception_ra to raise an exception
and unwind CPU state but raise_exception_ra is currently designed for
handling data aborts as the syndrome is partially precomputed and
encoded in the TB and then merged in merge_syn_data_abort when handling
the data abort. Using raise_exception_ra for DAIF and PAC checks
results in an empty syndrome being retrieved from data[2] in
restore_state_to_opc and setting ESR to 0. This manifested as:
kvm [571]: Unknown exception class: esr: 0x000000 –
Unknown/Uncategorized
when launching a KVM guest when the host qemu used a CPU supporting
EL2+pointer authentication and enabling pointer authentication in the
guest.
Rework raise_exception_ra such that the state is restored before raising
the exception so that the exception is not clobbered by
restore_state_to_opc.

The M-profile FPSCR has an LTPSIZE field, but if MVE is not
implemented it is read-only and always reads as 4; this is how QEMU
currently handles it.
Make the field writable when MVE is implemented.
We can safely add the field to the MVE migration struct because
currently no CPUs enable MVE and so the migration struct is never
used.

FPSysRegCheckResult, which is an enum with three possible values.
However, three places in the function "return false" (a hangover from
a previous iteration of the design where the function just returned a

whether floating point is supported via the aa32_fpdp_v2 and

to check for MVE as well as for FP.
This is all the insns which use CheckDecodeFaults(ExtType_MveOrFp) or

essentially the loads and stores, moves and sysreg accesses, except
for VMOV_reg_sp and VMOV_reg_dp, which we handle in subsequent

Quoting Peter Maydell [*]:
There are two ways to handle migration for
a CPU object:
(1) like any other device, so it has a dc->vmsd that covers
migration for the whole object. As usual for objects that are a
subclass of a parent that has state, the first entry in the
VMStateDescription field list is VMSTATE_CPU(), which migrates
the cpu_common fields, followed by whatever the CPU's own migration
fields are.
(2) a backwards-compatible mechanism for CPUs that were
originally migrated using manual "write fields to the migration
stream structures". The on-the-wire migration format
for those is based on the 'env' pointer (which isn't a QOM object),
and the cpu_common part of the migration data is elsewhere.
cpu_exec_realizefn() handles both possibilities:
* for type 1, dc->vmsd is set and cc->vmsd is not,
so cpu_exec_realizefn() does nothing, and the standard
"register dc->vmsd for a device" code does everything needed
* for type 2, dc->vmsd is NULL and so we register the
vmstate_cpu_common directly to handle the cpu-common fields,
and the cc->vmsd to handle the per-CPU stuff
You can't change a CPU from one type to the other without breaking
migration compatibility, which is why some guest architectures
are stuck on the cc->vmsd form. New targets should use dc->vmsd.
To avoid new targets to start using type (2), rename cc->vmsd as
cc->legacy_vmsd. The correct field to implement is dc->vmsd (the
DeviceClass one).
See also commit b170fce3dd ("cpu: Register VMStateDescription
through CPUState") for historic background.

Split these operations out into a header that can be shared
between neon and sve. The "sat" pointer acts both as a boolean
for control of saturating behavior and controls the difference
in behavior between neon and sve -- QC bit or no QC bit.
Widen the shift operand in the new helpers, as the SVE2 insns treat
the whole input element as significant. For the neon uses, truncate
the shift to int8_t while passing the parameter.
Implement right-shift rounding as
tmp = src >> (shift - 1);
dst = (tmp >> 1) + (tmp & 1);
This is the same number of instructions as the current
tmp = 1 << (shift - 1);
dst = (src + tmp) >> shift;
without any possibility of intermediate overflow.

When an M-profile CPU is restoring registers from the stack on
exception return, the stack pointer to use is determined based on
bits in the magic exception return type value. We were not getting
this logic entirely correct.
Whether we use one of the Secure stack pointers or one of the
Non-Secure stack pointers depends on the EXCRET.S bit. However,
whether we use the MSP or the PSP then depends on the SPSEL bit in
either the CONTROL_S or CONTROL_NS register. We were incorrectly
selecting MSP vs PSP based on the EXCRET.SPSEL bit.
(In the pseudocode this is in the PopStack() function, which calls
LookUpSp_with_security_mode() which in turn looks at the relevant
CONTROL.SPSEL bit.)
The buggy behaviour wasn't noticeable in most cases, because we write
EXCRET.SPSEL to the CONTROL.SPSEL bit for the S/NS register selected
by EXCRET.ES, so we only do the wrong thing when EXCRET.S and
EXCRET.ES are different. This will happen when secure code takes a
secure exception, which then tail-chains to a non-secure exception
which finally returns to the original secure code.

Make the WFI helper function return immediately in the usermode
emulator. This turns WFI into a NOP, which is OK because:
* architecturally "WFI is a NOP" is a permitted implementation
* aarch64 Linux kernels use the SCTLR_EL1.nTWI bit to trap
userspace WFI and NOP it (though aarch32 kernels currently
just let WFI do whatever it would do)
We could in theory make the translate.c code special case user-mode
emulation and NOP the insn entirely rather than making the helper
do nothing, but because no real world code will be trying to
execute WFI we don't care about efficiency and the helper provides
a single place where we can make the change rather than having
to touch multiple places in translate.c and translate-a64.c.

into translate.c so they are separate compilation units. To do this
we need to make some functions which are currently file-local to
translate.c have global scope; create a translate-a32.h paralleling
the existing translate-a64.h as a place for these declarations to
live, so that code moved into the new compilation units can call
them.
The functions made global here are those required by the
m-nocp.decode functions, except that I have converted the whole
family of {read,write}_neon_element* and also both the load_cpu and

The unallocated_encoding() function is the same in both

and drop the translate-a64.c version. To do this we need to also
share gen_exception_insn(), which currently exists in two slightly
different versions for A32 and A64: merge those into a single
function that can work for both.
This will be useful for splitting up translate.c, which will require
unallocated_encoding() to no longer be file-local. It's also
hopefully less confusing to have only one version of the function

This is less obvious, because at present the only user of

retain an "internal" interface which is identical to the

Drop the parameter and the deferral to gen_mte_check1.

After recent changes, mte_checkN does not use ESIZE,
and mte_check1 never used TSIZE. We can combine the
two into a single field: SIZEM1.
Choose to pass size - 1 because size == 0 is never used,
our immediate need in mte_probe_int is for the address
of the last byte (ptr + size - 1), and since almost all
operations are powers of 2, this makes the immediate

We were incorrectly assuming that only the first byte of an MTE access
is checked against the tags. But per the ARM, unaligned accesses are
pre-decomposed into single-byte accesses. So by the time we reach the
actual MTE check in the ARM pseudocode, all accesses are aligned.
We cannot tell a priori whether or not a given scalar access is aligned,
therefore we must at least check. Use mte_probe_int, which is already
set up for checking multiple granules.

pre-decomposed into single-byte accesses. So by the time we reach the
actual MTE check in the ARM pseudocode, all accesses are aligned.
Therefore, the first failure is always either the first byte of the

In addition, some of the arithmetic is off for last-first -> count.
This does not become directly visible until a later patch that passes
single bytes into this function, so ptr == ptr_last.

The Arm ARM specifies that for Thumb encodings of the various plain
store insns, if the Rn field is 1111 then we must UNDEF. This is
different from the Arm encodings, where this case is either
UNPREDICTABLE or has well-defined behaviour. The exclusive stores,
store-release and STRD do not have this UNDEF case for any encoding.
Enforce the UNDEF for this case in the Thumb plain store insns.

This is a left over erroneous check from the days front-ends handled
io start/end themselves. Regardless just because IO could be performed
on the last instruction doesn't obligate the front end to do so.
This fixes an abort faced by the aspeed execute-in-place support which
will necessarily trigger this state (even before the one-shot
CF_LAST_IO fix). The test still seems to hang once it attempts to boot
the Linux kernel but I suspect this is an unrelated issue with icount
and the timer handling code.
The original intention of the cpu_abort (added in commit 2e70f6efa8
when the icount stuff was first added) seems to have been to act as
an assert() to catch an unhandled corner case where the generated code
would be something like:
conditional branch to condlabel if its cc failed
implementation of the insn (a conditional branch or trap)
code emitted by gen_io_end()
condlabel:
gen_goto_tb or equivalent thing to go to next insn
At runtime the cc-failed case would skip over the code emitted by
gen_io_end(), leaving the can_do_io flag incorrectly set.
In commit ba3e792669 we switched to an implementation which
always clears can_do_io at the start of the following TB instead
of trying to clear it at the end of a TB that did IO. So the corner
case that this cpu_abort() was trying to flag is no longer possible,
because the gen_io_end() call has been deleted. We can therefore
safely remove the no-longer-valid assertion.

Currently we give all the v7-and-up CPUs a PMU with 4 counters. This
means that we don't provide the 6 counters that are required by the
Arm BSA (Base System Architecture) specification if the CPU supports
the Virtualization extensions.
Instead of having a single PMCR_NUM_COUNTERS, make each CPU type
specify the PMCR reset value (obtained from the appropriate TRM), and
use the 'N' field of that value to define the number of counters
provided.
This means that we now supply 6 counters for Cortex-A53, A57, A72,
A15 and A9 as well as '-cpu max'; Cortex-A7 and A8 stay at 4; and
Cortex-R5 goes down to 3.
Note that because we now use the PMCR reset value of the specific
implementation, we no longer set the LC bit out of reset. This has
an UNKNOWN value out of reset for all cores with any AArch32 support,
so guest software should be setting it anyway if it wants it.

For Arm M-profile CPUs, on reset the CPU must load its initial PC and
SP from a vector table in guest memory. Because we can't guarantee
reset ordering, we have to handle the possibility that the ROM blob
loader's reset function has not yet run when the CPU resets, in which
case the data in an ELF file specified by the user won't be in guest
memory to be read yet.
We work around the reset ordering problem by checking whether the ROM
blob loader has any data for the address where the vector table is,
using rom_ptr(). Unfortunately this does not handle the possibility
of memory aliasing. For many M-profile boards, memory can be
accessed via multiple possible physical addresses; if the board has
the vector table at address X but the user's ELF file loads data via
a different address Y which is an alias to the same underlying guest
RAM then rom_ptr() will not find it.
Use the new rom_ptr_for_as() function, which deals with memory
aliasing when locating a relevant ROM blob.

The virt machine already checks KVM_CAP_ARM_VM_IPA_SIZE to get the
upper bound of the IPA size. If that bound is lower than the highest
possible GPA for the machine, then QEMU will error out. However, the
IPA is set to 40 when the highest GPA is less than or equal to 40,
even when KVM may support an IPA limit as low as 32. This means KVM
may fail the VM creation unnecessarily. Additionally, 40 is selected
with the value 0, which means use the default, and that gets around
a check in some versions of KVM, causing a difficult to debug fail.
Always use the IPA size that corresponds to the highest possible GPA,
unless it's lower than 32, in which case use 32. Also, we must still
use 0 when KVM only supports the legacy fixed 40 bit IPA.

With the reduction operations, we intentionally increase maxsz to
the next power of 2, so as to fill out the reduction tree correctly.
Since e2e7168a21, oprsz must equal maxsz, with exceptions for small

not themselves a power of 2.

Section D6.7 of the ARM ARM states:
For the purpose of determining Tag Check Fault handling, unprivileged
load and store instructions are treated as if executed at EL0 when
executed at either:
- EL1, when the Effective value of PSTATE.UAO is 0.
- EL2, when both the Effective value of HCR_EL2.{E2H, TGE} is {1, 1}
and the Effective value of PSTATE.UAO is 0.
ARM has confirmed a defect in the pseudocode function
AArch64.TagCheckFault that makes it inconsistent with the above
wording. The remedy is to adjust references to PSTATE.EL in that
function to instead refer to AArch64.AccessUsesEL(acctype), so
that unprivileged instructions use SCTLR_EL1.TCF0 and TFSRE0_EL1.
The exception type for synchronous tag check faults remains unchanged.
This patch implements the described change by partially reverting
commits 50244cc76a and cc97b0019b.

An SEV-ES guest does not allow register state to be altered once it has
been measured. When an SEV-ES guest issues a reboot command, Qemu will
reset the vCPU state and resume the guest. This will cause failures under
SEV-ES. Prevent that from occuring by introducing an arch-specific
callback that returns a boolean indicating whether vCPUs are resettable.

The real kernel collects _TIF_MTE_ASYNC_FAULT into the current thread's
state on any kernel entry (interrupt, exception etc), and then delivers
the signal in advance of resuming the thread.
This means that while the signal won't be delivered immediately, it will
not be delayed forever -- at minimum it will be delivered after the next
clock interrupt.
We don't have a clock interrupt in linux-user, so we issue a cpu_kick
to signal a return to the main loop at the end of the current TB.

Use g2h_untagged in contexts that have no cpu, e.g. the binary
loaders that operate before the primary cpu is created. As a
colollary, target_mmap and friends must use untagged addresses,
since they are used by the loaders.
Use g2h_untagged on values returned from target_mmap, as the
kernel never applies a tag itself.
Use g2h_untagged on all pc values. The only current user of
tags, aarch64, removes tags from code addresses upon branch,
so "pc" is always untagged.
Use g2h with the cpu context on hand wherever possible.

When working with performance monitoring counters, we look at
MDCR_EL2.HPMN as part of the check whether a counter is enabled. This
check fails, because MDCR_EL2.HPMN is reset to 0, meaning that no
counters are "enabled" for < EL2.
That's in violation of the Arm specification, which states that
> On a Warm reset, this field [MDCR_EL2.HPMN] resets to the value in
> PMCR_EL0.N
That's also what a comment in the code acknowledges, but the necessary
adjustment seems to have been forgotten when support for more counters
was added.
This change fixes the issue by setting the reset value to PMCR.N, which
is four.

we cannot in principle make the TCG Operations field definitions
conditional on CONFIG_TCG in code that is included by both common_ss
and specific_ss modules.
Therefore, what we can do safely to restrict the TCG fields to TCG-only
builds, is to move all tcg cpu operations into a separate header file,
which is only included by TCG, target-specific code.
This leaves just a NULL pointer in the cpu.h for the non-TCG builds.
This also tidies up the code in all targets a bit, having all TCG cpu
operations neatly contained by a dedicated data struct.

cc->do_interrupt is in theory a TCG callback used in accel/tcg only,
to prepare the emulated architecture to take an interrupt as defined
in the hardware specifications,
but in reality the _do_interrupt style of functions in targets are
also occasionally reused by KVM to prepare the architecture state in a
similar way where userspace code has identified that it needs to
deliver an exception to the guest.
In the case of ARM, that includes:
1) the vcpu thread got a SIGBUS indicating a memory error,
and we need to deliver a Synchronous External Abort to the guest to
let it know about the error.
2) the kernel told us about a debug exception (breakpoint, watchpoint)
but it is not for one of QEMU's own gdbstub breakpoints/watchpoints
so it must be a breakpoint the guest itself has set up, therefore
we need to deliver it to the guest.
So in order to reuse code, the same arm_do_interrupt function is used.
This is all fine, but we need to avoid calling it using the callback
registered in CPUClass, since that one is now TCG-only.
Fortunately this is easily solved by replacing calls to
CPUClass::do_interrupt() with explicit calls to arm_do_interrupt().
