390dce8da6 Parser is finished (or very nearly so)!!! :-) 
+ Added support for extended notation floating point numbers,
as well as signed (+ and -) floats.
+ Finished up parsing code
+ Moved Err class into it's own header/source pair, since I
started using it all over the place in the sniffer code.
+ Did my darndest to make sure I wasn't leaking memory
anywhere.
+ Matched up error messages as best as possible with R5's
error message. Some couldn't be matched, some were improved.

There *are* a few things left to do. I don't think priorities are
verified to be valid (0.0 <= x <= 1.0). More tests also need to
be written. Things have solidified enough now that documentation
is a reasonable thing to start considering as well.

+ Parser tests still do very little testing
+ The "1e-25 ('ABCD')" test, which apparently fails with
R5's CheckSnifferRule(), has been commented out, as our
version accepts it and I can't currently figure out why it
would be an invalid sniffer rule.

c2f9230c91 For some strange reason, elf_relocate_rel() crashed and reported a high 
rel type (111) when it tried to load the PCI bus manager - I've only removed
the crash, but I didn't dig any deeper yet.
Note, this only happens using bochs - on a real computer, the kernel runs
obviously without any problems.

c26a5cea91 * The destructor doesn't kill the looper thread any more, as this doesn't 
work very well with BApplication and has some issue with plain loopers
  too.
* DispatchMessage(): _QUIT_ doesn't delete the object any longer. The
  looper thread simply falls through the dispatching loop and deletes
  the object.
* Caused by not killing the looper thread in the destructor, Quit() had
  to be adjusted. When called from the looper thread the thread exists.

91363a4278 Converted thread states to BeOS equivalents (excluding THREAD_STATE_FREE_ON_RESCHED, which will probably go away once the slab allocator is in). Converted priorities to BeOS equivalents; we now have 60 priority queues to map the 120 BeOS priority levels (which have a granularity of 2, thanks Axel) plus the idle queue. Fixed PS.

752c497115 The last remnants of the Old Repub ... er, static looper list data has been 
removed.  The old static BLooper functions for managing the looper list are
still there, but they are officially deprecated.  The approved interface
for this information is BPrivate::BLooperList, accessible via the global
BPrivate::gLooperList variable.  Being as it lives in BPrivate, it is for
API-internal use *ONLY*.  User apps use it to their own risk.
Also added a small test to make sure that the size of BLooper stays the
same.  I will probably add this to other classes as well; doesn't hurt to
be safe. =)

9986313c0c Fixed some bugs/behavioral differences to the R5 implementation. 
* Run() was returning fTaskID, which was invalidated by Quit().
* assert_app_signature() -> check_app_signature(). InitData() now quits
  when an error occured and no error variable has been supplied. That seems
  to be what R5 does.
* When args are present B_ARGV_RECEIVED is always sent to the own team,
  even if the app flags include B_ARGV_ONLY. But it is sent to a remote
  application (already running instance), only if that app has NOT
  B_ARGV_ONLY set.

ae372703ce Big commit: Added symlink support to the kernel. 
- added needed syscalls to access symlink support from userland
- implemented lstat(), symlink(), and readlink()
- added dev_t to ktypes.h (for now - should be in a public header anyway)
- added symlink support to the "ls" command (now calls lstat() and shows the
  link target with the -l option)
- changed the sys_read_stat() call to support symlinks, and updated files
  using that function (it gets an extra argument: bool traverseLink)

7d141659a6 Fixed some crucial bugs in the elf_load_uspace() function: 
- if the path name exceeded about 56 bytes, the function would have seg-faulted
- the calculation to decide if there is an extra region for the bss needed was wrong -
  that caused the kernel to be not able to load certain executables

Also, fixed a warning, and cleaned up the above mentioned function a bit, added
some more comments.

3cfbecf1a6 First round of big changes: the term team has replaced proc all over the kernel, the few kern_* syscalls have been renamed to sys_* for consistency, and other small changes. The ps app is temporarily disabled until get_next_team_info is implemented.

32babc5581 added more error checking to prevent corrupt BMPs from crashing the translator, change the RLE decoder to allocate one row of dynamic memory for the bits output rather than allocating memory for the entire bits file, hopefully improved the performance of the RLE decoder

395d31a081 Started on parser tests, which so far are shaping up 
to be very similar to the BMimeType::Sniffer tests... :-)
These tests have the added bonus of not need full

ab2e0d7d3f Removed the optional index parameter from AddInfo(). It wasn't used and would avoid to replace the list implementation by one that e.g. maintains a sorted list or a hash table or whatever. Think about changing the other methods operating on indices to use iterators.

3fe5330ccb While Intel documentation lists PCI capability as 32 bit entities, 
the PCI specifications lists it as two 8 bit entities, followed by
a unknown number of vendor specific data. It should be better to do
two 8 bit reads, instead of one 16 or 32 bit access.

5da549240a + Moved internally used classes into header to allow for testing. 
+ Added EmptyToken, Integer, and FloatingPoint TokenTypes.
+ Added IntToken and IntegerToken classes.
+ Updated scanner, which now handles numbers as well. I believe
it's nearly complete, although I'm almost positive it doesn't
handle octals correctly yet...

a4c97c95ce Fix the problem that resulted in a invisible shell on my system. 
We were disabling the PCI to PCI bridge which is the connection
to the AGP port on my system, and made an error when trying to
enable it again. Fixed now!

496ffb0aa7 * Changed return type of some private methods from void to status_t. 
AddApplication() returns the token via reference parameter and
  additionally returns the team ID of the already running app (if any).
* Implemented AddApplication(), SetThreadAndTeam(), CompleteRegistration(),
  IsAppPreRegistered(), RemovePreRegApp(), RemoveApp(), or to to say it
  briefly the complete set of app registration helper functions.
* Implemented GetRunningAppInfo() and GetActiveAppInfo().

f3b40ada80 This is a 5 minute attempted fix for Marcus's AGP card not working 
for VGA accesses.

Marcus: can you try this and see if it makes any difference? There should
be a debug message if it detects your agp bridge and applies the fix.

a0bc23f288 I've been trying to figure out how the division of work between 
config_manager and busses works, and this is a large correction based on
my current working thoughts.

I also think we need to have a new interface between the bus modules and
the config_manager to allow them to work together. I have some ideas
on it and will start fleshing it out next week.

This update basically moves all PCI stuff back to the PCI module and
cleans up config_manager.c. We now print a small amount of info for
devices and more for bridges. My system only has a single bridge, but if
anyone has a more exotic system and tries this can they let me know
what sort of results they see?

ISTR that Be forced all devices to full power, so we do the same

d45a868bb2 Remove the apps mount and unmount from the kernel build as they 
don't do anything and Axel has started replacing them anyway.

At some point we need to remove the files, but I'll wait until
things have had a few days first.

786e627791 Install the drivers into /boot/drivers instead of /boot/addons and 
which allows better seperation and stops the module code trying to
load device drivers. This should speed up the boot a little and reduce
the debug messages that Marcus loves so much :)

7438a7b7d0 The multi-threaded police raided and of course we didn't have locks

fde77afb37 Ported my NewOS changes to OpenBeOS. 
A couple of changes in various interrupt and thread functions and structures.
These make it now possible to change the stack at any time without making the kernel crash. This is needed for calling VESA 3.0 VBE functions through the protected mode interface.

f8e2c34c67 Update the config_manager and pci modules. 
This now reports better and starts configuring the busses we find.

There is still a long way to go but this another step on the way.

NB the information comes from 2 different methods and presently doesn't
   agree This is known and will be fixed, so please don't start yelling
   that it's broken! If people have strange debug information please
   let me have a copy so I can try to debug further :)

b9f8590233 Added sys/user calls for the open/create entry_ref/node_ref functions. 
Added functions to retrieve set the fs_info structure (i.e. used to get the
partition's name); not implemented yet in the internal file systems.

279d2a69e9 Because of the two cascaded PICs, we can't allow to ever diable IRQ 2.

071f62bc36 Major code cleanup and reorganisation. 
Fixed many bugs.
Now, the vfs_ prefix is for functions that are called by other parts of the
kernel. file_ is for file related stuff, dir_ for directory related, and
common_ for both, fs_ for general file system stuff.
Put all prefixed functions together in the source.
Implemented (currently without a user/sys call) opening/creating of entry_refs,
and node_refs (the latter for opening directories only).
Moved vfs_dup(), and vfs_dup2() to fd.c, fd_dup(), and fd_dup2().

b1dba4cbd5 Fix the interrupt handling... 
we now differntiate between an I/O interrupt (ie one that is likely
to be triggered by a device on the system using an IRQ between
0 and 15) and one that we're creating to allow us to have functions
called for events, ie a software interrupt. Behaviour is all
commented in the file int.c, but you need to make sure that you call the
correct version.

install_io_interrupt_handler now needs an IRQ value between 0 and 15 and
will treat the irq as one it needs to enable/disable

install_interrupt_handler is for software interrupts and is essentially
the function we had.

For mroe read the comments in the file.

a6b33ea3de + Moved BAutolock and BArchivable over to new testing framework. 
+ Added ability to specify entire suites to the UnitTester program.
+ BAutolock and BArchivable tests now use CPPUNIT_ASSERT, but BLocker
tests crash for some unknown reason with said assertion, so plain old vanilla
assert() is still used. I'll look into this later.
+ BArchivable tests that try to load a RemoteTestObject are failing
because the resource file doesn't appear to be linked into
libsupporttest_RemoteTestObject.so.

8480ee0c2c We now have a completely working "pwd" command; dir_vnode_to_path() is 
fully implemented.
I removed all those insane INSANE() debug output and found what made
the difference between a working and a crashing kernel - will have
to investigate this later, because those two lines a) really belong
there, and b) even if they are there, the kernel shouldn't crash just
because of that.

eab8081ffd Change the modules code to use the new hash code. 
This fixed a lot of ongoing segfaults which were both intermittent

6ecc5c9950 The new hash code.

hash impl. in APR, that was itself based on a large number of different
people's efforts and various papers.

90bc2d5f53 Big change to the way that PCI works. 
- make pci into a true module now.
- the pci module builds and keeps a linked list of devices it finds, with
  a filled in pci_info structure
- pci module detects (at runtime) whcih config mech to use, though to date
  only mech 1 is implemented
- pci module does sanity check and warns if it fails
- config manager loads pci module and calls get_nth_pci_info to iterate
  through the list printing details
- pci is no longer called directly from the bus init function

there is still lots to do and I've tried to make sure that there are plenty
of comments in the pci.c file. I've also left the previous code in
place until we move on a little further when it will be removed.

This has been working with no problems on my system and doesn't change
any functionality as we don't have any devices that need PCI in our build
yet.

4bb2d8915b Implemented geist's recent change to mutexes - they are now no longer 
benaphores; benaphores aren't that beneficial in kernel land, the benaphores
are a way to reduce the number of kernel calls.
They can now only be released by the same thread who originally acquired it.

Included other changes geist (change 1499) did to a) fix some bugs, and
b) reflect the changes made to the mutexes.
Cleaned the files a bit up, all the commented dprintf()s in elf.c are now
deactivated through a macro.

2296a4d62e Here is the modified InputServer.cpp file which includes the casting 
change for the DispatchEvent() function.  This will allow the input_server
to work with the current proto6 code in the cvs tree.  It may even work
with the existing proto5.

333119344a Another attempt to fix the module loading problem. I've also added 
a load of comments explaining why it does the things it does.

In the get_module code we now correctly
call the init function, which was being missed before if we got
the module via search_module.

If people can test and confirm this works. It works here and has solved
all the issues I was trying to fix.

243d156e21 sys_seek() now returns the stream position as an off_t. 
Minor bug fixes.
fd_close() now doesn't have to call remove_fd() anymore - it's now called
in user|sys_close(), fd_close() is now only called in the last put_fd().
Cleanup, improved debug output (without any warnings).

8e4f7c25a8 Link against /boot/home/config/lib/libopenbeos.so rather than the one in distr/... This adds the necessary dependency, so that you can be sure that when running the test, it will use a version that is up to date.

e73bb7c88e Added support for always reading the whole Jamfile tree, even when invoking 
jam in a subdirectory:
* Adjusted SubDir to include the root Jamfile, if invoked from a subdir.
* Added LocalClean and LocalDepends, which work similar to Clean and Depends,
  but have no effect, when called from a Jamfile that is not in the tree of
  the current subdirectory. Replaced the Clean/Depends invocations with
  LocalClean/LocalDepends where necessery.
* Added FIsPrefix which is a support rule for LocalClean and LocalDepends.

a5da066045 We now don't forget to call drivers's init_driver() to init them completly. 
Drivers who publish nothing are not keep loaded, too.
These are *hacks* until we have a real devfs dynamicly loading drivers...

e3684651de Finally figured out why the first assert in IsMessageWaiting5() always 
worked under R5 but only sometimes for OBOS.  Answer: the OBOS
implementation of BLooper was attempting to lock itself prior to fetching
the message from the queue.  I moved the lock attempt after the fetch and
it worked the same.  I realized that if the system was loaded heavily
enough, the assert might still fail simply because the looper would not had
enough time to get to the fetch (thereby emptying the queue), making the
assert pretty useless.  Given that it was originally there as a probing
test (rather than as an integral part of the unit test), there is no real
need for it anyway, so it is no longer used.

df226cd7b3 A new class to manage the list of loopers in a team. Provides the 
functionality of the existing static BLooper functions (which now call
through to it) in a nicer package.  New code should use the global instance
of this (BPrivate::gLooperList) instead of the old BLooper functions (which
are officially deprecated).

ea536d2ba4 Updated VFS, more POSIX like open/create, has now extra open_dir/create_dir 
functions. sys_create() now returns an fd of the open file (some code in the
kernel shell already depend on this).
Moved the seek functions to fd.c.
Updated all internal file systems to a new and updated API.
vfs.c is not cleaned up well, but also has some bug fixes.

d2ececb63c Modify the way that the drivers dir works. We now only build dev.c and 
do everything from there. I'd liek to move this into the main kernel
once we figure out how to make the rest of our devices load at
run time without needing to have small headers to include their init
routines.

This is a step along the way, but at present the console modules
can't be loaded that way.

100b0f973d Fix a couple of errors we no longer have (ain't regression wonderful) 
Change to using device drivers for null, zero and digit
Small changes to the way we init devices.

NB the random driver has shown that devices are not being handled correctly,
   so this is something we'll ahve to live with until the vfs person fixes it.

fb8aa06112 Add a random/urandom driver (NB not yet working) 
Add ibuild rules for Marcus's AC97 driver to the openbeos build, ithat
will allow it to be built for OpenBeOS. At present they don't work
due to missing headers, but aftre a succesful build this can be
uncommented and it will build and OpenBeOS will try to laod it.
This will provide a nice test case
as Marcus has provided the source! Thanks.
Added the null, zero & digit drivers here and they will be removed from
kernel/drivers

NB this has shown that drivers are not being handled correctly by
devfs. I would have tried to look at it but as it falls under the remit
of vfs I won't touch it.

b72a95e61b Tried to add the currently only media add-on to the build, but commented out the lines in the Jamfile, for it fails to compile -- not finding headers I can't find either. Whoever is responsible may uncomment them and get it compiling.

bc85a65ae3 Initial checking of unified unit testing app and example test. 
+ Currently, only statically linked tests are supported.
+ None of the existing tests have been integrated into it yet; that will come after I add dynamic linking.
+ The example test has multithreaded and singlethreaded examples
+ The name of the unit testing app is open for negotiation if UnitTester is unacceptable for some reason. :-)
