Make CONFIG_USER set apic-id before realizing the CPU (just like PC

Right now, the AVX512 registers are split in many different fields:
xmm_regs for the low 128 bits of the first 16 registers, ymmh_regs
for the next 128 bits of the same first 16 registers, zmmh_regs
for the next 256 bits of the same first 16 registers, and finally
hi16_zmm_regs for the full 512 bits of the second 16 bit registers.
This makes it simple to move data in and out of the xsave region,
but would be a nightmare for a hypothetical TCG implementation and
leads to a proliferation of [XYZ]MM_[BWLSQD] macros. Instead,
this patch marshals data manually from the xsave region to a single
32x512-bit array, simplifying the macro jungle and clarifying which
bits are in which vmstate subsection.
The migration format is unaffected.
Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
After the next patch, each vmstate field will extract parts of a larger
(32x512-bit) array, so we cannot check the vmstate field against the
type of the array.
While changing this, change the macros to accept the index of the first
element (which will not be 0 for Hi16_ZMM_REGS) instead of the number
of elements (which is always CPU_NB_REGS).

Use inline functions rather than macros for cpu_ld/st accessors
for the *-user configurations, as we already do for softmmu.
This has a two advantages:
* we can actually typecheck our arguments
* we don't need to leak the _raw macros everywhere
Since the _kernel functions were only used by target-i386/seg_helper.c,
put the definitions for them in that file too. (It already has the
similar template include code to define them for the softmmu case,
so it makes sense to have it deal with defining them for user-only.)

The TARGET_HAS_ICE #define is intended to indicate whether a target-*
guest CPU implementation supports the breakpoint handling. However,
all our guest CPUs have that support (the only two which do not
define TARGET_HAS_ICE are unicore32 and openrisc, and in both those
cases the bp support is present and the lack of the #define is just
a bug). So remove the #define entirely: all new guest CPU support
should include breakpoint handling as part of the basic implementation.

g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n). It's also safer,
for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.
This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form

TCG generates optimized code for i386 repz instructions in single step mode.
It means that when ecx becomes 0, execution of the string instruction breaks
immediately without an additional iteration for ecx==0 (which will only check
ecx and set the flags). Omitting this iteration leads to different
instructions counting in singlestep mode and in normal execution.
This patch disables optimization of this last iteration for icount mode

After the next patch, if a masked PIC interrupts causes CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL
to be set, the CPU will spuriously get out of halted state. While this
is technically valid, we should avoid that.
Make CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL run apic_update_irq in the right thread and then
look at CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD. If CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD does not get set,
do not report the CPU as having work.
Also move the handling of software-disabled APIC from apic_update_irq
to apic_irq_pending, and always trigger CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL. This will
be important once we will add a case that resets CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD
from apic_update_irq. We want to run it even if we go through
CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL, and even if the local APIC is software disabled.

Make SVM be disabled by default on all CPU models when in KVM mode.
Nested SVM is enabled by default in the KVM kernel module, but it is
probably less stable than nested VMX (which is already disabled by
default).
Add a new compat function, x86_cpu_compat_kvm_no_autodisable(), to keep
compatibility on previous machine-types.

TCG doesn't support VMX, and nested VMX is not enabled by default in the
KVM kernel module.
So, there's no reason to have VMX enabled by default on the core2duo and
coreduo CPU models, today. Even the newer Intel CPU model definitions
don't have it enabled.
In this case, we need machine-type compat code, as people may be running
the older machine-types on hosts that had VMX nesting enabled.

The following CPU features were never supported by neither TCG or KVM,
so they are useless on the CPU model definitions, today:

* CPUID_TM
* CPUID_PBE
* CPUID_EXT_DTES64
* CPUID_EXT_DSCPL

As using "enforce" mode is the only way to ensure guest ABI doesn't
change when moving to a different host, we should make "enforce" mode
the default or at least encourage management software to always use it.
In turn, to make "enforce" usable, we need CPU models that work without
always requiring some features to be explicitly disabled. This patch
removes the above features from all CPU model definitions.
We won't need any machine-type compat code for those changes, because it
is impossible to have existing VMs with those features enabled.

KVM never supported the CPUID_ACPI flag, so it doesn't make sense to
have it enabled by default when KVM is enabled.
The motivation here is exactly the same we had for the MONITOR flag
(disabled by commit 136a7e9a85).
And like in the MONITOR flag case, we don't need machine-type compat code
because it is currently impossible to run a KVM VM with the ACPI flag set.

The x86_cpu_compat_disable_kvm_features() name was a bit confusing, as
it won't forcibly disable the feature for all CPU models (i.e. add it to
kvm_default_unset_features), but it will instead turn off the KVM
auto-enabling of the feature (i.e. remove it from kvm_default_features),
meaning the feature may still be enabled by default in some CPU models).

When the "migratable" property was implemented, the behavior was tested
by changing the default on the code, but actually using the option on
the command-line (e.g. "-cpu host,migratable=false") doesn't work as

which is to enable features that are supported by the host CPU + kernel

The SDM specifies (June 2014 Vol3 11.11.5):
On a hardware reset, the P6 and more recent processors clear the
valid flags in variable-range MTRRs and clear the E flag in the
IA32_MTRR_DEF_TYPE MSR to disable all MTRRs. All other bits in the
MTRRs are undefined.
We currently do none of that, so whatever MTRR settings you had prior
to reset is what you have after reset. Usually this doesn't matter
because KVM often ignores the guest mappings and uses write-back
anyway. However, if you have an assigned device and an IOMMU that
allows NoSnoop for that device, KVM defers to the guest memory
mappings which are now stale after reset. The result is that OVMF
rebooting on such a configuration takes a full minute to LZMA
decompress the firmware volume, a process that is nearly instant on
the initial boot.

The MTRR state in KVM currently runs completely independent of the
QEMU state in CPUX86State.mtrr_*. This means that on migration, the
target loses MTRR state from the source. Generally that's ok though
because KVM ignores it and maps everything as write-back anyway. The
exception to this rule is when we have an assigned device and an IOMMU
that doesn't promote NoSnoop transactions from that device to be cache
coherent. In that case KVM trusts the guest mapping of memory as
configured in the MTRR.
This patch updates kvm_get|put_msrs() so that we retrieve the actual
vCPU MTRR settings and therefore keep CPUX86State synchronized for
migration. kvm_put_msrs() is also used on vCPU reset and therefore
allows future modificaitons of MTRR state at reset to be realized.
Note that the entries array used by both functions was already
slightly undersized for holding every possible MSR, so this patch
increases it beyond the 28 new entries necessary for MTRR state.

Currently syscall instruction is buggy on user mode X86_64,
the EIP is updated after do_syscall(), that is too late for

do_syscall() again, that is not expected. Sometimes it is tragic.

Having only migratable flags reported by default on the "host" CPU model
is safer for the following reasons:
* Existing users may expect "-cpu host" to be migration-safe, if they
take care of always using compatible host CPUs, host kernels, and
QEMU versions.
* Users who don't care aboug migration and want to enable all features
supported by the host kernel can simply change their setup to use
migratable=no.
Without this change, people using "-cpu host" will stop being able to
migrate, because now "invtsc" is getting enabled by default.
We are not setting migratable=yes by default on all X86CPU subclasses,
because users should be able to get non-migratable features enabled if
they ask for them explicitly.

This flag will allow the user to choose between two modes:
* All flags that can be enabled on the host, even if unmigratable
(migratable=no);
* All flags that can be enabled on the host, are known to QEMU
and migratable (migratable=yes).
The default is still migratable=false, to keep current behavior, but
this will be changed to migratable=true by another patch.
My plan was to support the "migratable" flag on all CPU classes, but
have the default to "false" on all CPU models except "host". However,
DeviceClass has no mechanism to allow a child class to have a different
property default from the parent class yet, so by now only the "host"
CPU model will support the "migratable" flag.

KVM never supported the MONITOR flag so it doesn't make sense to have it
enabled by default when KVM is enabled.
The rationale here is similar to the cases where it makes sense to have

In this case we don't need machine-type compat code because it is

CS.RPL is not equal to the CPL in the few instructions between
setting CR0.PE and reloading CS. We get this right in the common
case, because writes to CR0 do not modify the CPL, but it would
not be enough if an SMI comes exactly during that brief period.
Were this to happen, the RSM instruction would erroneously set
CPL to the low two bits of the real-mode selector; and if they are
not 00, the next instruction fetch cannot access the code segment
and causes a triple fault.
However, SS.DPL *is* always equal to the CPL. In real processors
(AMD only) there is a weird case of SYSRET setting SS.DPL=SS.RPL
from the STAR register while forcing CPL=3, but we do not emulate
that.

either wrong, fragile, or unnecessarily opaque. It's wrong when ERRP

when proving ERRP non-null involves a non-local argument. Else, it's
unnecessarily opaque (see commit 84d18f0).

Register separate QOM types for each x86 CPU model.
This will allow management code to more easily probe what each CPU model
provides, by simply creating objects using the appropriate class name,
without having to restart QEMU.
This also allows us to eliminate the qdev_prop_set_globals_for_type()
hack to set CPU-model-specific global properties.
Instead of creating separate class_init functions for each class, I just
used class_data to store a pointer to the X86CPUDefinition struct for
each CPU model. This should make the patch shorter and easier to review.
Later we can gradually convert each X86CPUDefinition field to lists of
per-class property defaults.

Commit 1b90d56e changed the implementation of in/out imm to not assign
the accessed port number to cpu_T[0] as it appeared unnecessary.
However, currently gen_check_io() makes use of cpu_T[0] to implement the
I/O bitmap checks, so it's in fact still used and the change broke the
check, leading to #GP in legitimate cases (and probably also allowing
access to ports that shouldn't be allowed).
This patch reintroduces the missing assignment for these cases.

There's no need to check CPU xlevel2 before calling

* Similarly, the kernel won't return any entry for 0xC0000001 if

When we're running in non-64bit mode with qemu-system-x86_64 we can
still end up with virtual addresses that are above the 32bit boundary
if a segment offset is set up.
GNU Hurd does exactly that. It sets the segment offset to 0x80000000 and
puts its EIP value to 0x8xxxxxxx to access low memory.
This doesn't hit us when we enable paging, as there we just mask away the
unused bits. But with real mode, we assume that vaddr == paddr which is
wrong in this case. Real hardware wraps the virtual address around at the
32bit boundary. So let's do the same.
This fixes booting GNU Hurd in qemu-system-x86_64 for me.

After commit b1bbfe7 (aio / timers: On timer modification, qemu_notify
or aio_notify, 2013-08-21) FreeBSD guests report a huge slowdown.
The problem shows up as soon as FreeBSD turns out its periodic (~1 ms)
tick, but the timers are only the trigger for a pre-existing problem.
Before the offending patch, setting a timer did a timer_settime system call.
After, setting the timer exits the event loop (which uses poll) and
reenters it with a new deadline. This does not cause any slowdown; the
difference is between one system call (timer_settime and a signal
delivery (SIGALRM) before the patch, and two system calls afterwards
(write to a pipe or eventfd + calling poll again when re-entering the
event loop).
Unfortunately, the exit/enter causes the main loop to grab the iothread
lock, which in turns kicks the VCPU thread out of execution. This
causes TCG to execute the next VCPU in its round-robin scheduling of
VCPUS. When the second VCPU is mostly unused, FreeBSD runs a "pause"
instruction in its idle loop which only burns cycles without any
progress. As soon as the timer tick expires, the first VCPU runs
the interrupt handler but very soon it sets it again---and QEMU
then goes back doing nothing in the second VCPU.
The fix is to make the pause instruction do "cpu_loop_exit".

Fix build failures with clang when KVM is not enabled by
providing a stub version of kvm_arch_get_supported_cpuid().
We retain the compile time check that this function isn't
called when CONFIG_KVM is not set by guarding the stub with
ifndef __OPTIMIZE__ (we assume that an optimizing build will
do sufficient constant folding and dead code elimination to
remove the calls before linking).

Commit 787aaf5 (target-i386: forward CPUID cache leaves when -cpu host is
used, 2013-09-02) brings bits 31..26 of CPUID leaf 04h out of sync with
the APIC IDs that QEMU reserves for each package. This number must come
from "-smp" options rather than from the host CPUID.
It also turns out that this unsyncing makes Windows Server 2012R2 fail
to boot.

There's no Intel CPU with family=6,model=2, and Linux and Windows guests
disable SEP when seeing that combination due to Pentium Pro erratum #82.
In addition to just having SEP ignored by guests, Skype (and maybe other
applications) runs sysenter directly without passing through ntdll on
Windows, and crashes because Windows ignored the SEP CPUID bit.
So, having model > 2 is a better default on qemu64 and qemu32 for two
reasons: making SEP really available for guests, and avoiding crashing
applications that work on bare metal.
model=3 would fix the problem, but it causes CPU enumeration problems
for Windows guests[1]. So let's set model=6, that matches "Athlon
(PM core)" on AMD and "P2 with on-die L2 cache" on Intel and it allows
Windows to use all CPUs as well as fixing sysenter.

When in Long Mode, cpu_x86_seg_cache() logs "DS16" because the Default
operation size bit (D/B bit) is not set for Long Mode Data Segments since
there are only Data Segments in Long Mode and no explicit 16/32/64-bit

This patch fixes this by checking the Long Mode Active bit of the hidden

The x86 and ppc targets call cpu_synchronize_state() from their
*_cpu_dump_state() callbacks to ensure that up to date state is dumped
when KVM is enabled (for example when a KVM internal error occurs).
Move this call up into the generic cpu_dump_state() function so that
other KVM targets (namely MIPS) can take advantage of it.
This requires kvm_cpu_synchronize_state() and cpu_synchronize_state() to
be moved out of the #ifdef NEED_CPU_H in <sysemu/kvm.h> so that they're
accessible to qom/cpu.c.

This is an attempt to make the CPUID cache topology code clearer, by
replacing the magic numbers in the code with #defines, and moving all
the cache information to the same place in the file.
I took care of comparing the assembly output of compiling
target-i386/cpu.c before and after applying this change, to make sure
not a single bit was changed on cpu_x86_cpuid() before and after
applying this patch (unfortunately I had to manually check existing
differences, because of __LINE__ expansions on
object_class_dynamic_cast_assert() calls).
This even keeps the code bug-compatible with the previous version: today
the cache information returned on AMD cache information leaves (CPUID
0x80000005 & 0x80000006) do not match the information returned on CPUID
leaves 2 and 4. The L2 cache information on CPUID leaf 2 also doesn't
match the information on CPUID leaf 2. The new constants should make it
easier to eventually fix those inconsistencies. All inconsistencies I
have found are documented in code comments.

Bug description: QEMU currently gets all bits from GET_SUPPORTED_CPUID
for CPUID leaf 0xA and passes them directly to the guest. This makes
the guest ABI depend on host kernel and host CPU capabilities, and
breaks live migration if we migrate between hosts with different
capabilities (e.g., different number of PMU counters).
Add a "pmu" property to X86CPU, and set it to true only on "-cpu host",
or on pc-*-1.5 and older machine-types.
For now, setting pmu=on will enable the current passthrough mode that
doesn't have any ABI stability guarantees, but in the future we may
implement a mode where the PMU CPUID bits are stable and configurable.

Commit c643bed99 moved qemu_init_vcpu() calls to common CPUState code.
This causes x86 cpu-add to fail with "KVM: setting VAPIC address failed".
The reason for the failure is that CPUClass::kvm_fd is not yet
initialized in the following call graph:
->x86_cpu_realizefn
->x86_cpu_apic_realize
->qdev_init
->device_set_realized
->device_reset (hotplugged == 1)
->apic_reset_common
->vapic_base_update
->kvm_apic_vapic_base_update
This causes attempted KVM vCPU ioctls to fail.
By contrast, in the non-hotplug case the APIC is reset much later, when
the vCPU is already initialized.
As a quick and safe solution, move the qemu_init_vcpu() call back into
the targets' realize functions.

It also simplifies the code.

Older KVM version put invalid value in the segments registers dpl field for
real mode guests (0x3).
This breaks migration from those hosts to hosts with unrestricted guest support.
We detect it by checking CS dpl value for real mode guest and fix the dpl values
of all the segment registers.

Older KVM versions save CS dpl value to an invalid value for real mode guests
(0x3). This patch detect this situation when loading CPU state and set all the
segments dpl to zero.
This will allow migration from older KVM on host without unrestricted guest
to hosts with restricted guest support.
For example migration from a Penryn host (with kernel 2.6.32) to
a Westmere host (for real mode guest) will fail with "kvm: unhandled exit 80000021".

A transition from CPUFooState to FooCPU can be considered safe,
just like FooCPU::env access in the opposite direction.
The only benefit of the FOO_CPU() casts would be protection against
bogus CPUFooState pointers, but then surrounding code would likely
break, too.
This should slightly improve interrupt etc. performance when going from
CPUFooState to FooCPU.

Multiple -machine options with the same ID are merged. All but the
one without an ID are to be silently ignored.
In most places, we query these options with a null ID. This is
correct.
In some places, we instead query whatever options come first in the
list. This is wrong. When the -machine processed first happens to
have an ID, options are taken from that ID, and the ones specified
without ID are silently ignored.
Example:
$ upstream-qemu -nodefaults -S -display none -monitor stdio -machine id=foo -machine accel=kvm,usb=on
$ upstream-qemu -nodefaults -S -display none -monitor stdio -machine id=foo,accel=kvm,usb=on -machine accel=xen

Option usb is queried correctly, and the one without an ID wins,
regardless of option order.
Option accel is queried incorrectly, and which one wins depends on
option order and ID.
Affected options are accel (and its sugared forms -enable-kvm and
-no-kvm), kernel_irqchip, kvm_shadow_mem.
Additionally, option kernel_irqchip is normally on by default, except
it's off when no -machine options are given. Bug can't bite, because
kernel_irqchip is used only when KVM is enabled, KVM is off by
default, and enabling always creates -machine options. Downstreams
that enable KVM by default do get bitten, though.
Use qemu_get_machine_opts() to fix these bugs.
