The platform specific details of mechanisms for implementing
confidential guest support may require setup at various points during
initialization. Thus, it's not really feasible to have a single cgs
initialization hook, but instead each mechanism needs its own
initialization calls in arch or machine specific code.
However, to make it harder to have a bug where a mechanism isn't
properly initialized under some circumstances, we want to have a
common place, late in boot, where we verify that cgs has been
initialized if it was requested.
This patch introduces a ready flag to the ConfidentialGuestSupport
base type to accomplish this, which we verify in
qemu_machine_creation_done().

Currently the "memory-encryption" property is only looked at once we
get to kvm_init(). Although protection of guest memory from the
hypervisor isn't something that could really ever work with TCG, it's
not conceptually tied to the KVM accelerator.
In addition, the way the string property is resolved to an object is
almost identical to how a QOM link property is handled.
So, create a new "confidential-guest-support" link property which sets
this QOM interface link directly in the machine. For compatibility we
keep the "memory-encryption" property, but now implemented in terms of
the new property.

When AMD's SEV memory encryption is in use, flash memory banks (which are
initialed by pc_system_flash_map()) need to be encrypted with the guest's
key, so that the guest can read them.
That's abstracted via the kvm_memcrypt_encrypt_data() callback in the KVM
state.. except, that it doesn't really abstract much at all.
For starters, the only call site is in code specific to the 'pc'
family of machine types, so it's obviously specific to those and to
x86 to begin with. But it makes a bunch of further assumptions that
need not be true about an arbitrary confidential guest system based on
memory encryption, let alone one based on other mechanisms:
* it assumes that the flash memory is defined to be encrypted with the
guest key, rather than being shared with hypervisor
* it assumes that that hypervisor has some mechanism to encrypt data into
the guest, even though it can't decrypt it out, since that's the whole
point
* the interface assumes that this encrypt can be done in place, which
implies that the hypervisor can write into a confidential guests's
memory, even if what it writes isn't meaningful
So really, this "abstraction" is actually pretty specific to the way SEV
works. So, this patch removes it and instead has the PC flash
initialization code call into a SEV specific callback.

Several architectures have mechanisms which are designed to protect
guest memory from interference or eavesdropping by a compromised
hypervisor. AMD SEV does this with in-chip memory encryption and
Intel's TDX can do similar things. POWER's Protected Execution
Framework (PEF) accomplishes a similar goal using an ultravisor and
new memory protection features, instead of encryption.
To (partially) unify handling for these, this introduces a new
ConfidentialGuestSupport QOM base class. "Confidential" is kind of vague,
but "confidential computing" seems to be the buzzword about these schemes,
and "secure" or "protected" are often used in connection to unrelated
things (such as hypervisor-from-guest or guest-from-guest security).
The "support" in the name is significant because in at least some of the
cases it requires the guest to take specific actions in order to protect
itself from hypervisor eavesdropping.

we cannot in principle make the TCG Operations field definitions
conditional on CONFIG_TCG in code that is included by both common_ss

Therefore, what we can do safely to restrict the TCG fields to TCG-only
builds, is to move all tcg cpu operations into a separate header file,
which is only included by TCG, target-specific code.
This leaves just a NULL pointer in the cpu.h for the non-TCG builds.
This also tidies up the code in all targets a bit, having all TCG cpu

Qemu's ACPI table generation sets the fields OEM ID and OEM table ID
to "BOCHS " and "BXPCxxxx" where "xxxx" is replaced by the ACPI
table name.
Some games like Red Dead Redemption 2 seem to check the ACPI OEM ID
and OEM table ID for the strings "BOCHS" and "BXPC" and if they are
found, the game crashes(this may be an intentional detection
mechanism to prevent playing the game in a virtualized environment).
This patch allows you to override these default values.
The feature can be used in this manner:
qemu -machine oem-id=ABCDEF,oem-table-id=GHIJKLMN
The oem-id string can be up to 6 bytes in size, and the
oem-table-id string can be up to 8 bytes in size. If the string are
smaller than their respective sizes they will be padded with space.
If either of these parameters is not set, the current default values
will be used for the one missing.
Note that the the OEM Table ID field will not be extended with the
name of the table, but will use either the default name or the user
provided one.
This does not affect the -acpitable option (for user-defined ACPI
tables), which has precedence over -machine option.

Displaying rendered resources requires blocking qemu GPU to avoid extra
framebuffer copies. For an external display, via Spice currently, there
is a callback to block/unblock the rendering in the same thread.
But with the vhost-user-gpu backend, the qemu process doesn't handle
the rendering itself, and the blocking callback isn't effective.
Instead, the backend must be notified when the display code is done.
Fix this by adding a new GraphicHwOps callback to indicate the GL state
is flushed, and we are done manipulating the shared GL resources. Call

NBD reconnect logic considers the error code from the functions that
read NBD messages to tell if reconnect should be attempted or not: it is
attempted on -EIO, otherwise the client transitions to NBD_CLIENT_QUIT
state (see nbd_channel_error). This error code is propagated from the
primitives like nbd_read.
The problem, however, is that nbd_read itself turns every error into -1
rather than -EIO. As a result, if the NBD server happens to die while
sending the message, the client in QEMU receives less data than it
expects, considers it as a fatal error, and wouldn't attempt
reestablishing the connection.
Fix it by turning every negative return from qio_channel_read_all into
-EIO returned from nbd_read. Apparently that was the original behavior,
but got broken later. Also adjust nbd_readXX to follow.

on all io paths.
Main motivation is realization of 64-bit write_zeroes operation for
fast zeroing large disk chunks, up to the whole disk.
We chose signed type, to be consistent with off_t (which is signed) and

So, convert now copy_range parameters which are already 64bit to signed

It's safe as we don't work with requests overflowing BDRV_MAX_LENGTH

bdrv_pad_request() is updated simultaneously, as pointer to bytes passed
to it both from bdrv_co_pwritev_part() and bdrv_co_preadv_part().
So, all callers of bdrv_pad_request() are updated to pass 64bit bytes.
bdrv_pad_request() is already good for 64bit requests, add

In bdrv_co_preadv_part() and bdrv_aligned_pwritev() we only pass bytes
to other already int64_t interfaces (and some obviously safe

In bdrv_co_do_zero_pwritev() aligned_bytes may become large now, still
it's passed to bdrv_aligned_pwritev which supports int64_t bytes.

This patch is a first in the 64-bit-blocklayer series, so we are
generally moving to int64_t for both offset and bytes parameters on all
io paths. Main motivation is realization of 64-bit write_zeroes
operation for fast zeroing large disk chunks, up to the whole disk.
We chose signed type, to be consistent with off_t (which is signed) and
with possibility for signed return type (where negative value means
error).
Patch-correctness audit by Eric Blake:
Caller has 32-bit, this patch now causes widening which is safe:
block/block-backend.c: blk_do_preadv() passes 'unsigned int'
block/block-backend.c: blk_do_pwritev_part() passes 'unsigned int'
block/throttle.c: throttle_co_pwrite_zeroes() passes 'int'
block/throttle.c: throttle_co_pdiscard() passes 'int'
Caller has 64-bit, this patch fixes potential bug where pre-patch
could narrow, except it's easy enough to trace that callers are still
capped at 2G actions:
block/throttle.c: throttle_co_preadv() passes 'uint64_t'
block/throttle.c: throttle_co_pwritev() passes 'uint64_t'
Implementation in question: block/throttle-groups.c
throttle_group_co_io_limits_intercept() takes 'unsigned int bytes'
and uses it: argument to util/throttle.c throttle_account(uint64_t)
All safe: it patches a latent bug, and does not introduce any 64-bit
gotchas once throttle_co_p{read,write}v are relaxed, and assuming
throttle_account() is not buggy.

There is currently no way to open(O_RDONLY) and mmap(PROT_READ) when
creating a memory region from a file. This functionality is needed since
the underlying host file may not allow writing.
Add a bool readonly argument to memory_region_init_ram_from_file() and
the APIs it calls.
Extend memory_region_init_ram_from_file() rather than introducing a
memory_region_init_rom_from_file() API so that callers can easily make a
choice between read/write and read-only at runtime without calling
different APIs.
No new RAMBlock flag is introduced for read-only because it's unclear
whether RAMBlocks need to know that they are read-only. Pass a bool
readonly argument instead.
Both of these design decisions can be changed in the future. It just
seemed like the simplest approach to me.

The old-style convenience function cmsdk_apb_timer_create() for
creating CMSDK_APB_TIMER objects is used in only two places in
mps2.c. Most of the rest of the code in that file uses the new
"initialize in place" coding style.
We want to connect up a Clock object which should be done between the
object creation and realization; rather than adding a Clock* argument
to the convenience function, convert the timer creation code in
mps2.c to the same style as is used already for the watchdog,
dualtimer and other devices, and delete the now-unused convenience
function.

While we transition the ARMSSE code from integer properties
specifying clock frequencies to Clock objects, we want to have the
device provide both at once. We want the final name of the main
input Clock to be "MAINCLK", following the hardware name.
Unfortunately creating an input Clock with a name X creates an
under-the-hood QOM property X; for "MAINCLK" this clashes with the
existing UINT32 property of that name.
Rename the UINT32 property to MAINCLK_FRQ so it can coexist with the
MAINCLK Clock; once the transition is complete MAINCLK_FRQ will be
deleted.

The ptimer API currently provides two methods for setting the period:
ptimer_set_period(), which takes a period in nanoseconds, and
ptimer_set_freq(), which takes a frequency in Hz. Neither of these
lines up nicely with the Clock API, because although both the Clock
and the ptimer track the frequency using a representation of whole
and fractional nanoseconds, conversion via either period-in-ns or
frequency-in-Hz will introduce a rounding error.
Add a new function ptimer_set_period_from_clock() which takes the
Clock object directly to avoid the rounding issues. This includes a
facility for the user to specify that there is a frequency divider
between the Clock proper and the timer, as some timer devices like
the CMSDK APB dualtimer need this.
To avoid having to drag in clock.h from ptimer.h we add the Clock
type to typedefs.h.

Currently, blk_is_read_only() tells whether a given BlockBackend can
only be used in read-only mode because its root node is read-only. Some
callers actually try to answer a slightly different question: Is the
BlockBackend configured to be writable, by taking write permissions on
the root node?
This can differ, for example, for CD-ROM devices which don't take write
permissions, but may be backed by a writable image file. scsi-cd allows
write requests to the drive if blk_is_read_only() returns false.
However, the write request will immediately run into an assertion
failure because the write permission is missing.
This patch introduces separate functions for both questions.
blk_supports_write_perm() answers the question whether the block
node/image file can support writable devices, whereas blk_is_writable()
tells whether the BlockBackend is currently configured to be writable.
All calls of blk_is_read_only() are converted to one of the two new
functions.

We are going to directly use one async block-copy operation for backup
job, so we need rate limiter.
We want to maintain current backup behavior: only background copying is
limited and copy-before-write operations only participate in limit
calculation. Therefore we need one rate limiter for block-copy state
and boolean flag for block-copy call state for actual limitation.
Note, that we can't just calculate each chunk in limiter after
successful copying: it will not save us from starting a lot of async
sub-requests which will exceed limit too much. Instead let's use the
following scheme on sub-request creation:
1. If at the moment limit is not exceeded, create the request and
account it immediately.
2. If at the moment limit is already exceeded, drop create sub-request
and handle limit instead (by sleep).
With this approach we'll never exceed the limit more than by one
sub-request (which pretty much matches current backup behavior).
Note also, that if there is in-flight block-copy async call,
block_copy_kick() should be used after set-speed to apply new setup
faster. For that block_copy_kick() published in this patch.

Experiments show, that copy_range is not always making things faster.
So, to make experimentation simpler, let's add a parameter. Some more
perf parameters will be added soon, so here is a new struct.
For now, add new backup qmp parameter with x- prefix for the following
reasons:
- We are going to add more performance parameters, some will be
related to the whole block-copy process, some only to background
copying in backup (ignored for copy-before-write operations).
- On the other hand, we are going to use block-copy interface in other
block jobs, which will need performance options as well.. And it
should be the same structure or at least somehow related.
So, there are too much unclean things about how the interface and now
we need the new options mostly for testing. Let's keep them
experimental for a while.
In do_backup_common() new x-perf parameter handled in a way to
make further options addition simpler.
We add use-copy-range with default=true, and we'll change the default
in further patch, after moving backup to use block-copy.

The code already don't freeze base node and we try to make it prepared
for the situation when base node is changed during the operation. In
other words, block-stream doesn't own base node.
Let's introduce a new interface which should replace the current one,
which will in better relations with the code. Specifying bottom node
instead of base, and requiring it to be non-filter gives us the
following benefits:
- drop difference between above_base and base_overlay, which will be
renamed to just bottom, when old interface dropped
- clean way to work with parallel streams/commits on the same backing
chain, which otherwise become a problem when we introduce a filter
for stream job
- cleaner interface. Nobody will surprised the fact that base node may
disappear during block-stream, when there is no word about "base" in
the interface.

Since commit 1e8b5b1aa1 ("spapr: Allow memory unplug to always succeed")
trying to unplug memory from a guest that doesn't support it (eg. rhel6)
no longer generates an error like it used to. Instead, it leaves the
memory around : only a subsequent reboot or manual use of drmgr within
the guest can complete the hot-unplug sequence. A flag was added to
SpaprMachineClass so that this new behavior only applies to the default
machine type.
We can do better. CAS processes all pending hot-unplug requests. This
means that we don't really care about what the guest supports if
the hot-unplug request happens before CAS.
All guests that we care for, even old ones, set enough bits in OV5
that lead to a non-empty bitmap in spapr->ov5_cas. Use that as a
heuristic to decide if CAS has already occured or not.
Always accept unplug requests that happen before CAS since CAS will
process them. Restore the previous behavior of rejecting them after
CAS when we know that the guest doesn't support memory hot-unplug.
This behavior is suitable for all machine types : this allows to
drop the pre_6_0_memory_unplug flag.

The gd_egl_refresh function, as the name suggests, is responsible for
refreshing displays when using EGL graphics with QEMU's GTK UI. This is
a perfect candidate for a function to update the refresh rate in.
Since gd_monitor_update_interval is inaccessible from the gd_egl_refresh
function, we need to expose/globalize it in the include/ui/gtk.h file.

Redefining SI prefixes is always wrong. 1s has per definition
1000ms. Remove the misnamed named constant and replace it with
a comment explaining the frequency to period conversion in two
simple steps. Now you can cancel out the unit mHz in the comment
with the implicit unit mHz in refresh_rate_millihz and see why
the implicit unit ms for update_interval remains.

Expose the property only in the PCI device, for now. There is no boot

The PWM module is part of NPCM7XX module. Each NPCM7XX module has two
identical PWM modules. Each module contains 4 PWM entries. Each PWM has
two outputs: frequency and duty_cycle. Both are computed using inputs
from software side.
This module does not model detail pulse signals since it is expensive.
It also does not model interrupts and watchdogs that are dependant on
the detail models. The interfaces for these are left in the module so
that anyone in need for these functionalities can implement on their
own.
The user can read the duty cycle and frequency using qom-get command.

This patch allows NPCM7XX CLK module to compute clocks that are used by
other NPCM7XX modules.
Add a new struct NPCM7xxClockConverterState which represents a
single converter. Each clock converter in CLK module represents one
converter in NPCM7XX CLK Module(PLL, SEL or Divider). Each converter
takes one or more input clocks and converts them into one output clock.
They form a clock hierarchy in the CLK module and are responsible for
outputing clocks for various other modules in an NPCM7XX SoC.
Each converter has a function pointer called "convert" which represents
the unique logic for that converter.
The clock contains two initialization information: ConverterInitInfo and
ConverterConnectionInfo. They represent the vertices and edges in the
clock diagram respectively.

Currently timer_free() is a simple wrapper for g_free(). This means
that the timer being freed must not be currently active, as otherwise
QEMU might crash later when the active list is processed and still
has a pointer to freed memory on it. As a result almost all calls to
timer_free() are preceded by a timer_del() call, as can be seen in
the output of
git grep -B1 '\<timer_free\>'
This is unfortunate API design as it makes it easy to accidentally
misuse (by forgetting the timer_del()), and the correct use is
annoyingly verbose.
Make timer_free() imply a timer_del().

Documentation of object_property_iter_init() clearly stipulates that
"it is forbidden to modify the property list while iterating". But this
is exactly what we do when resetting transient DR connectors during CAS.
The call to spapr_drc_reset() can finalize the hot-unplug sequence of a
PHB or a PCI bridge, both of which will then in turn destroy their PCI
DRCs. This could potentially invalidate the iterator. It is pure luck
that this haven't caused any issues so far.
Change spapr_drc_reset() to return true if it caused a device to be
removed. Restart from scratch in this case. This can potentially
increase the overall DRC reset time, especially with a high maxmem
which generates a lot of LMB DRCs. But this kind of setup is rare,
and so is the use case of rebooting a guest while doing hot-unplug.

Non-transient DRCs are either in the empty or the ready state,
which means spapr_drc_reset() doesn't change their state. It
is thus not needed to do any checking. Call spapr_drc_reset()
unconditionally and squash spapr_drc_transient() into its
only user, spapr_drc_needed().

Running a guest with 128 NUMA nodes crashes QEMU:
../../util/error.c:59: error_setv: Assertion `*errp == NULL' failed.
The crash happens when setting the FWNMI migration blocker:
2861 if (spapr_get_cap(spapr, SPAPR_CAP_FWNMI) == SPAPR_CAP_ON) {
2862 /* Create the error string for live migration blocker */
2863 error_setg(&spapr->fwnmi_migration_blocker,
2864 "A machine check is being handled during migration. The handler"
2865 "may run and log hardware error on the destination");
2866 }
Inspection reveals that papr->fwnmi_migration_blocker isn't NULL:
(gdb) p spapr->fwnmi_migration_blocker
$1 = (Error *) 0x8000000004000000
Since this is the only place where papr->fwnmi_migration_blocker is
set, this means someone wrote there in our back. Further analysis
points to spapr_numa_associativity_init(), especially the part
that initializes the associative arrays for NVLink GPUs:
max_nodes_with_gpus = nb_numa_nodes + NVGPU_MAX_NUM;
ie. max_nodes_with_gpus = 128 + 6, but the array isn't sized to
accommodate the 6 extra nodes:
struct SpaprMachineState {
.
.
.
uint32_t numa_assoc_array[MAX_NODES][NUMA_ASSOC_SIZE];
Error *fwnmi_migration_blocker;
};
and the following loops happily overwrite spapr->fwnmi_migration_blocker,
and probably more:
for (i = nb_numa_nodes; i < max_nodes_with_gpus; i++) {
spapr->numa_assoc_array[i][0] = cpu_to_be32(MAX_DISTANCE_REF_POINTS);
for (j = 1; j < MAX_DISTANCE_REF_POINTS; j++) {
uint32_t gpu_assoc = smc->pre_5_1_assoc_refpoints ?
SPAPR_GPU_NUMA_ID : cpu_to_be32(i);
spapr->numa_assoc_array[i][j] = gpu_assoc;
}
spapr->numa_assoc_array[i][MAX_DISTANCE_REF_POINTS] = cpu_to_be32(i);
}
Fix the size of the array. This requires "hw/ppc/spapr.h" to see
NVGPU_MAX_NUM. Including "hw/pci-host/spapr.h" introduces a
circular dependency that breaks the build, so this moves the
definition of NVGPU_MAX_NUM to "hw/ppc/spapr.h" instead.

It is currently impossible to hot-unplug a memory device between
machine reset and CAS.
(qemu) device_del dimm1
Error: Memory hot unplug not supported for this guest
This limitation was introduced in order to provide an explicit
error path for older guests that didn't support hot-plug event
sources (and thus memory hot-unplug).
The linux kernel has been supporting these since 4.11. All recent
enough guests are thus capable of handling the removal of a memory
device at all time, including during early boot.
Lift the limitation for the latest machine type. This means that
trying to unplug memory from a guest that doesn't support it will
likely just do nothing and the memory will only get removed at
next reboot. Such older guests can still get the existing behavior
by using an older machine type.

Currently the PPC UIC ("Universal Interrupt Controller") is implemented
as a non-QOM device in ppc4xx_devs.c. Convert it to a proper QOM device
in hw/intc.
The ppcuic_init() function is retained for the moment with its current
interface; in subsequent commits this will be tidied up to avoid the
allocation of an irq array.
This conversion adds VMState support.
It leaves the LOG_UIC() macro as-is to maximise the extent to which
this is simply code-movement rather than a rewrite (in new code it
would be better to use tracepoints).
The default property values for dcr-base and use-vectors are set to
match those use by most of our boards with a UIC.

The clock_get_ns() API claims to return the period of a clock in
nanoseconds. Unfortunately since it returns an integer and a
clock's period is represented in units of 2^-32 nanoseconds,
the result is often an approximation, and calculating a clock
expiry deadline by multiplying clock_get_ns() by a number-of-ticks
is unacceptably inaccurate.
Introduce a new API clock_ticks_to_ns() which returns the number
of nanoseconds it takes the clock to make a given number of ticks.
This function can do the complete calculation internally and
will thus give a more accurate result.

LLVM/Clang, supports runtime checks for forward-edge Control-Flow
Integrity (CFI).
CFI on indirect function calls (cfi-icall) ensures that, in indirect
function calls, the function called is of the right signature for the
pointer type defined at compile time.
For this check to work, the code must always respect the function
signature when using function pointer, the function must be defined
at compile time, and be compiled with link-time optimization.
This rules out, for example, shared libraries that are dynamically loaded
(given that functions are not known at compile time), and code that is
dynamically generated at run-time.
This patch:
1) Introduces the CONFIG_CFI flag to support cfi in QEMU
2) Introduces a decorator to allow the definition of "sensitive"
functions, where a non-instrumented function may be called at runtime
through a pointer. The decorator will take care of disabling cfi-icall
checks on such functions, when cfi is enabled.
3) Marks functions currently in QEMU that exhibit such behavior,
in particular:
- The function in TCG that calls pre-compiled TBs
- The function in TCI that interprets instructions
- Functions in the plugin infrastructures that jump to callbacks
- Functions in util that directly call a signal handler

Commit 8118f0950f "migration: Append JSON description of migration
stream" needs a JSON writer. The existing qobject_to_json() wasn't a
good fit, because it requires building a QObject to convert. Instead,
migration got its very own JSON writer, in commit 190c882ce2 "QJSON:
Add JSON writer". It tacitly limits numbers to int64_t, and strings
contents to characters that don't need escaping, unlike
qobject_to_json().
The previous commit factored the JSON writer out of qobject_to_json().
Replace migration's JSON writer by it.

We have two JSON writers written in C: qobject/qjson.c provides
qobject_to_json(), and migration/qjson.c provides a more low level
imperative interface. They don't share code. The latter tacitly
limits numbers to int64_t, and strings contents to characters that
don't need escaping.
Factor out qobject_to_json()'s JSON writer as qobject/json-writer.c.
Straightforward, except for numbers: since the writer is to be
independent of QObject, it can't use qnum_to_string(). Open-code it
instead. This is actually an improvement of sorts, because it
liberates qnum_to_string() from JSON's needs: its JSON-related FIXMEs
move to the JSON writer, where they belong.
The next commit will replace migration/qjson.c.

qobject_to_json() and qobject_to_json_pretty() build a GString, then
covert it to QString. Just one of the callers actually needs a
QString: qemu_rbd_parse_filename(). A few others need a string they
can modify: qmp_send_response(), qga's send_response(), to_json_str(),
and qmp_fd_vsend_fds(). The remainder just need a string.
Change qobject_to_json() and qobject_to_json_pretty() to return the
GString.
qemu_rbd_parse_filename() now has to convert to QString. All others
save a QString temporary. to_json_str() actually becomes a bit
simpler, because GString provides more convenient modification
functions.

QString supports modifying its string, but it's quite limited: you can
only append. The remaining callers use it for building an initial
string, never for modifying it later.
Use of GString for building the initial string is actually more
convenient here. Change qobject_to_json() & friends to do that.
Once all such uses are replaced this way, QString can become immutable.

we need to add some fallthrough annotations to the case statements

The current default action of pausing a guest after a panic event
is received leaves the responsibility to resume guest execution to the
management layer. The reasons for this behavior are discussed here:
https://lore.kernel.org/qemu-devel/52148F88.5000509@redhat.com/
However, in instances like the case of older guests (Linux and
Windows) using a pvpanic device but missing support for the
PVPANIC_CRASHLOADED event, and Windows guests using the hv-crash
enlightenment, it is desirable to allow the guests to continue
running after sending a PVPANIC_PANICKED event. This allows such
guests to proceed to capture a crash dump and automatically reboot
without intervention of a management layer.
Add an option to avoid stopping a VM after a panic event is received,
by passing:
-action panic=none
in the command line arguments, or during runtime by using an upcoming
QMP command.

We are going to modify block layer to work with 64bit requests. And
first step is moving to int64_t type for both offset and bytes
arguments in all block request related functions.
It's mostly safe (when widening signed or unsigned int to int64_t), but
switching from uint64_t is questionable.
So, let's first establish the set of requests we want to work with.
First signed int64_t should be enough, as off_t is signed anyway. Then,
obviously offset + bytes should not overflow.
And most interesting: (offset + bytes) being aligned up should not
overflow as well. Aligned to what alignment? First thing that comes in
mind is bs->bl.request_alignment, as we align up request to this
alignment. But there is another thing: look at
bdrv_mark_request_serialising(). It aligns request up to some given
alignment. And this parameter may be bdrv_get_cluster_size(), which is
often a lot greater than bs->bl.request_alignment.
Note also, that bdrv_mark_request_serialising() uses signed int64_t for
calculations. So, actually, we already depend on some restrictions.
Happily, bdrv_get_cluster_size() returns int and
bs->bl.request_alignment has 32bit unsigned type, but defined to be a
power of 2 less than INT_MAX. So, we may establish, that INT_MAX is
absolute maximum for any kind of alignment that may occur with the
request.
Note, that bdrv_get_cluster_size() is not documented to return power
of 2, still bdrv_mark_request_serialising() behaves like it is.
Also, backup uses bdi.cluster_size and is not prepared to it not being
power of 2.
So, let's establish that Qemu supports only power-of-2 clusters and
alignments.
So, alignment can't be greater than 2^30.
Finally to be safe with calculations, to not calculate different
maximums for different nodes (depending on cluster size and
request_alignment), let's simply set QEMU_ALIGN_DOWN(INT64_MAX, 2^30)
as absolute maximum bytes length for Qemu. Actually, it's not much less
than INT64_MAX.
OK, then, let's apply it to block/io.
Let's consider all block/io entry points of offset/bytes:
4 bytes/offset interface functions: bdrv_co_preadv_part(),
bdrv_co_pwritev_part(), bdrv_co_copy_range_internal() and
bdrv_co_pdiscard() and we check them all with bdrv_check_request().
We also have one entry point with only offset: bdrv_co_truncate().
Check the offset.
And one public structure: BdrvTrackedRequest. Happily, it has only
three external users:
file-posix.c: adopted by this patch
write-threshold.c: only read fields
test-write-threshold.c: sets obviously small constant values
Better is to make the structure private and add corresponding
interfaces.. Still it's not obvious what kind of interface is needed
for file-posix.c. Let's keep it public but add corresponding
assertions.
After this patch we'll convert functions in block/io.c to int64_t bytes
and offset parameters. We can assume that offset/bytes pair always
satisfy new restrictions, and make
corresponding assertions where needed. If we reach some offset/bytes
point in block/io.c missing bdrv_check_request() it is considered a
bug. As well, if block/io.c modifies a offset/bytes request, expanding
it more then aligning up to request_alignment, it's a bug too.
For all io requests except for discard we keep for now old restriction
of 32bit request length.
iotest 206 output error message changed, as now test disk size is
larger than new limit. Add one more test case with new maximum disk
size to cover too-big-L1 case.

block-export-add type=fuse allows mounting block graph nodes via FUSE on
some existing regular file. That file should then appears like a raw
disk image, and accesses to it result in accesses to the exported BDS.
Right now, we only implement the necessary block export functions to set
it up and shut it down. We do not implement any access functions, so
accessing the mount point only results in errors. This will be
addressed by a followup patch.
We keep a hash table of exported mount points, because we want to be
able to detect when users try to use a mount point twice. This is
because we invoke stat() to check whether the given mount point is a
regular file, but if that file is served by ourselves (because it is
already used as a mount point), then this stat() would have to be served
by ourselves, too, which is impossible to do while we (as the caller)
are waiting for it to settle. Therefore, keep track of mount point
paths to at least catch the most obvious instances of that problem.

qemu_opts_set is used to create default network backends and to
parse sugar options -kernel, -initrd, -append, -bios and -dtb.
These are very different uses:
I would *expect* a function named qemu_opts_set to set an option in a
merge-lists QemuOptsList, such as -kernel, and possibly to set an option
in a non-merge-lists QemuOptsList with non-NULL id, similar to -set.
However, it wouldn't *work* to use qemu_opts_set for the latter
because qemu_opts_set uses fail_if_exists==1. So, for non-merge-lists
QemuOptsList and non-NULL id, the semantics of qemu_opts_set (fail if the
(QemuOptsList, id) pair already exists) are debatable.
On the other hand, I would not expect qemu_opts_set to create a
non-merge-lists QemuOpts with a single option; which it does, though.
For this case of non-merge-lists QemuOptsList and NULL id, qemu_opts_set
hardly adds value over qemu_opts_parse. It does skip some parsing and
unescaping, but that's not needed when creating default network
backends.
So qemu_opts_set has warty behavior for non-merge-lists QemuOptsList
if id is non-NULL, and it's mostly pointless if id is NULL. My
solution to keeping the API as simple as possible is to limit
qemu_opts_set to merge-lists QemuOptsList. For them, it's useful (we
don't want comma-unescaping for -kernel) *and* has sane semantics.
Network backend creation is switched to qemu_opts_parse.
qemu_opts_set is now only used on merge-lists QemuOptsList... except
in the testcase, which is changed to use a merge-list QemuOptsList.
With this change we can also remove the id parameter. With the
parameter always NULL, we know that qemu_opts_create cannot fail
and can pass &error_abort to it.

In order to use inclusive terminology, rename max_slaves
as max_peripherals.
Patch generated using:
$ sed -i s/slave/peripheral/ \
hw/ssi/aspeed_smc.c include/hw/ssi/aspeed_smc.h
One line in aspeed_smc_read() has been manually tweaked
to pass checkpatch.

This patch adds support the kernel-irqchip option for
WHPX with on or off value. 'split' value is not supported
for the option. The option only works for the latest version
of Windows (ones that are coming out on Insiders). The
change maintains backward compatibility on older version of
Windows where this option is not supported.

The IOAPIC has an 'Extended Destination ID' field in its RTE, which maps
to bits 11-4 of the MSI address. Since those address bits fall within a
given 4KiB page they were historically non-trivial to use on real hardware.
The Intel IOMMU uses the lowest bit to indicate a remappable format MSI,
and then the remaining 7 bits are part of the index.
Where the remappable format bit isn't set, we can actually use the other
seven to allow external (IOAPIC and MSI) interrupts to reach up to 32768
CPUs instead of just the 255 permitted on bare metal.
