Since the asset is expected locally and the test is guarded
with RESCUE_YL_PATH, keep it under the 'quick' category.

tarballs, use lzma_uncompress() method.
Avocado used to set a timeout of 11 tests * 180s = 1980s.

The code that handles running of tesseract needs to be tweaked a little
bit to be able to run without the functions from avocado.utils, and
while we're at it, drop some legacy stuff that was still there due to
Tesseract 3 support that we already dropped a while ago.

A straight forward conversion, we just also have to remove the decorator
@skipUnless(os.getenv('SPEED')) since all non-trivial functional tests
are running in SPEED=thorough mode now. Also make sure that the extracted
assets are writable, so that the test does not fail if it gets re-run
and there are stale read-only files already around.

The machine_microblaze.py file contained two tests, one for each
endianness. Since we only support one QEMU target binary per file

Some Avocado-based tests use the "archive" module from avocado.utils
to extract files from an archive. To be able to use these tests
without Avocado, we have to provide our own function for extracting
files. Fortunately, there is already the tarfile module that will
provide us with this functionality, so let's just add a nice wrapper
function around that.

Many tests need to access assets stored on remote sites. We don't want
to download these during test execution when run by meson, since this
risks hitting test timeouts when data transfers are slow.
Add support for pre-emptive caching of assets by setting the env var
QEMU_TEST_PRECACHE to point to a timestamp file. When this is set,
instead of running the test, the assets will be downloaded and saved
to the cache, then the timestamp file created.
A meson custom target is created as a dependency of each test suite
to trigger the pre-emptive caching logic before the test runs.
When run in caching mode, it will locate assets by looking for class
level variables with a name prefix "ASSET_", and type "Asset".
At the ninja level
ninja test --suite functional
will speculatively download any assets that are not already cached,
so it is advisable to set a timeout multiplier.
QEMU_TEST_NO_DOWNLOAD=1 ninja test --suite functional
will fail the test if a required asset is not already cached
ninja precache-functional
will download and cache all assets required by the functional
tests
At the make level, precaching is always done by
make check-functional

The 'Asset' class is a simple module that declares a downloadable
asset that can be cached locally. Downloads are stored in the user's
home dir at ~/.cache/qemu/download, using a sha256 sum of the URL.

These simple tests can be converted to stand-alone tests quite easily,
e.g. by just setting the machine to 'none' now manually or by adding
"-cpu" command line parameters, since we don't support the corresponding

These test are rather simple and don't need any modifications apart
from adjusting the "from avocado_qemu" line. To ease debugging, make
the files executable and add a shebang line and Python '__main__'

Provide a meson.build file for the upcoming python-based functional
tests, and add some wrapper glue targets to the tests/Makefile.include
file. We are going to use two "speed" modes for the functional tests:
The "quick" tests can be run at any time (i.e. also during "make check"),
while the "thorough" tests should only be run when running a
"make check-functional" test run (since these tests might download
additional assets from the internet).
The changes to the meson.build files are partly based on an earlier
patch by Ani Sinha.

The files are mostly a copy of the tests/avocado/avocado_qemu/__init__.py
file with some adjustments to get rid of the Avocado dependencies (i.e.
we also have to drop the LinuxSSHMixIn and LinuxTest for now).
The emulator binary and build directory are now passed via
environment variables that will be set via meson.build later.

We've got a much more sophisticated, Fedora-based test for s390x
("test_s390x_fedora" in another file) already, so the test in
boot_linux_console.py seems to be rather a waste of precious test
cycles. Thus move the command line check and delete the s390x
test in boot_linux_console.py.

This bumps Avocado to latest the LTS release.
An LTS release is one that can receive bugfixes and guarantees
stability for a much longer period and has incremental minor releases
made.
Even though the 103.0 LTS release is pretty a rewrite of Avocado when
compared to 88.1, the behavior of all existing tests under
tests/avocado has been extensively tested no regression in behavior
was found.
To keep behavior of jobs as close as possible with previous version,
this version bump keeps the execution serial (maximum of one task at a
time being run).

The kernel is a common blob used in all tests. By moving it to the
setUp() method, the "fetch asset" plugin will recognize the kernel and
attempt to fetch it and cache it before the tests are started.

should not be writing to the ISO files. By adding "media=cdrom" the

The test_vcpu_dirty_limit is the only test that does not check for the
availability of the machine before starting the test, so it fails when
QEMU has been configured with --without-default-devices. Add a check for
the "pc" machine type to fix it.

We g_strdup() the "status" string we get out of the qdict in
get_dirty_rate(), but we never free it. Since we only use this

In the migration test we create several TLS certificates with
the TLS_* macros from crypto-tls-x509-helpers.h. These macros
create both a QCryptoTLSCertReq object which must be deinitialized
and also an on-disk certificate file. The migration test currently
removes the on-disk file in test_migrate_tls_x509_finish() but
never deinitializes the QCryptoTLSCertReq, which means that memory
allocated as part of it is leaked:

The only function currently provided to deinit a QCryptoTLSCertReq is
test_tls_discard_cert(), which also removes the on-disk certificate
file. For the migration tests we need to retain the on-disk files
until we've finished running the test, so the simplest fix is to
provide a new function test_tls_deinit_cert() which does only the
cleanup of the QCryptoTLSCertReq, and call it in the right places.

The code fishes out the SocketAddress from the list to return it, and the
callers are freeing that, but nothing frees the list.
Since this function is called in only two places, the simple fix is to
make it return the SocketAddressList rather than just a SocketAddress,
and then the callers can easily access the SocketAddress, and free
the whole SocketAddressList when they're done.

If you invoke the migration-test binary in such a way that it doesn't run
any tests, then we never call bootfile_create(), and at the end of
main() bootfile_delete() will try to unlink(NULL), which is not valid.
This can happen if for instance you tell the test binary to run a
subset of tests that turns out to be empty, like this:

I fumbled one of my last pull requests when fixing in-tree an issue
with commit 87d67fadb9 ("monitor: Stop removing non-duplicated
fds"). Basically mixed-up my `git add -p` and `git checkout -p` and
committed a piece of test infra that has not been reviewed yet.
This has not caused any bad symptoms because the test is not enabled
by default anywhere: make check doesn't use two qemu binaries and the
CI doesn't have PYTHON set for the compat tests. Besides, the test
works fine anyway, it would not break anything.
Remove this because it was never intended to be merged.

_console_interaction reads data from the console even when there is only
an input string to send, and no output data to wait on. This can cause
lines to be missed by wait_for_console_pattern calls that follows an
exec_command. Fix this by not reading the console if there is no pattern
to wait for.
This solves occasional hangs in ppc_hv_tests.py, usually when run on KVM
hosts that are fast enough to output important lines quickly enough to be
consumed by exec_command, so they get missed by subsequent wait for
pattern calls.

This runs replay-dump.py after recording a trace, and fails the test if
the script fails.
replay-dump.py is modified to exit with non-zero if an error is
encountered while parsing, to support this.

We disabled all RX tests on commit 9b45cc9931 ("docs/devel:
rationalise unstable gitlab tests under FLAKY_TESTS") for
being flaky. However I don't recall the U-Boot test to fail
(the problematic line checking the 'version' string is already
commented out), and I'm running this test reliably, so re-enable
it.

The gtk-vnc package is used by the vnc-display-test qtest
program. Technically only gvnc is needed, but since we
already pull in the gtk3 dep, it is harmless to depend
on gtk-vnc.

The real period is zero when both period and period_frac are zero.
Check the method ptimer_set_freq, if freq is larger than 1000 MHz,
the period is zero, but the period_frac is not, in this case, the
ptimer will work but the current code incorrectly recognizes that
the ptimer is disabled.

The implementation for these instructions handles -0 as an invalid float
point value, whereas the Hexagon hardware considers it the same as +0
(which is valid). Let's fix that and add a regression test.

Apparently 'qemu-img info' doesn't report the backing file format field
for qed (as it does for qcow2):
$ qemu-img create -f qed base.qed 1M && qemu-img create -f qed -b base.qed -F qed top.qed 1M
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 base.qcow2 1M && qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b base.qcow2 -F qcow2 top.qcow2 1M
$ qemu-img info top.qed | grep 'backing file format'
$ qemu-img info top.qcow2 | grep 'backing file format'
backing file format: qcow2
This leads to the 024 test failure with -qed. Let's just filter the
field out and exclude it from the output.
This is a fixup for the commit f93e65ee51 ("iotests/{024, 271}: add
testcases for qemu-img rebase").

Added several tests to verify the implementation of the vvfat driver.
We needed a way to interact with it, so created a basic `fat16.py` driver
that handled writing correct sectors for us.
Added `vvfat` to the non-generic formats, as its not a normal image format.

The asset used in the mentioned test gets truncated before it's used
in the test. This means that the file gets modified, and thus the
asset's expected hash doesn't match anymore. This causes cache misses
and re-downloads every time the test is re-run.
Let's make a copy of the asset so that the one in the cache is
preserved and the cache sees a hit on re-runs.

Avocado's fetchasset plugin runs before the actual Avocado job (and
any test). It analyses the test's code looking for occurrences of
"self.fetch_asset()" in the either the actual test or setUp() method.
It's not able to fully analyze all code, though.
The way these tests are written, make the fetchasset plugin blind to
the assets. This adds some more code duplication, true, but it will
aid the fetchasset plugin to download or verify the existence of these
assets in advance.

You cannot use plugins without TCG enabled so it doesn't make sense to
have them separated off in the test directory structure. While we are
at it rename the directory to plugins to reflect the plural nature of
the directory and match up with contrib/plugins.

Since 4f8d886085 (tests/plugin/mem: migrate to new per_vcpu API) this
test was skipping due to not being able to run callback and inline
memory instrumentation at the same time.
However b480f7a621 (tests/plugin: add test plugin for inline
operations) tests for all this matching up so we don't need the
additional complexity in avocado.
Remove the test.

The lcitool created containers save the full distro package list
details into /packages.txt. The idea is that build jobs will 'cat'
this file, so that the build log has a record of what packages
were used. This is important info, because when it comes to debug
failures, the original container is often lost.
This extends the manually written dockerfiles to also create the
/packages.txt file.

In Gitlab CI, some ppc64 multi-threaded tcg tests crash when run in the
clang-user job with an assertion failure in glibc that seems to
indicate corruption:

Disable these tests for now.

GNUTLS doesn't know how to perform I/O on anything other than plain
FDs, so the TLS session provides it with some I/O callbacks. The
GNUTLS API design requires these callbacks to return a unix errno
value, which means we're currently loosing the useful QEMU "Error"
object.
This changes the I/O callbacks in QEMU to stash the "Error" object
in the QCryptoTLSSession class, and fetch it when seeing an I/O
error returned from GNUTLS, thus preserving useful error messages.

As per the step 5 in the process documented in bios-tables-test.c,
generate the expected ACPI AML data files for RISC-V using the
rebuild-expected-aml.sh script and update the
bios-tables-test-allowed-diff.h.
These are all new files being added for the first time. Hence, iASL diff
output is not added.

After PCI link devices are moved out of the scope of PCI root complex,
the DSDT files of machines which use GPEX, will change. So, update the
expected AML files with these changes for these machines.
Mainly, there are 2 changes.
1) Since the link devices are created now directly under _SB for all PCI
root bridges in the system, they should have unique names. So, instead
of GSIx, named those devices as LXXY where L means link, XX will have
PCI bus number and Y will have the INTx number (ex: L000 or L001). The
_PRT entries will also be updated to reflect this name change.
2) PCI link devices are moved from the scope of each PCI root bridge to
directly under _SB.

CI often fails 'cross-i686-tci' job due to runner slowness
Log shows that test almost complete, with a few remaining
when bios-tables-test timeout hits:

Using bare printf's in plugins is perfectly acceptable but they do
rather mess up the output of "make check-tcg". Convert the printfs to
use g_string and then output with the plugin output helper which will
already be captured to .pout files by the test harness.

While it's a good practice to have reusable base classes, in this
specific case there's no other user of the BootXenBase class.

Fully eliminate the "Example" sections in QAPI doc blocks now that they
have all been converted to arbitrary rST syntax using the
".. qmp-example::" directive. Update tests to match.
Migrating to the new syntax
---------------------------
The old "Example:" or "Examples:" section syntax is now caught as an
error, but "Example::" is stil permitted as explicit rST syntax for an
un-lexed, generic preformatted text block.
('Example' is not special in this case, any sentence that ends with "::"
will start an indented code block in rST.)
Arbitrary rST for Examples is now possible, but it's strongly
recommended that documentation authors use the ".. qmp-example::"
directive for consistent visual formatting in rendered HTML docs. The
":title:" directive option may be used to add extra information into the
title bar for the example. The ":annotated:" option can be used to write
arbitrary rST instead, with nested "::" blocks applying QMP formatting
where desired.
Other choices available are ".. code-block:: QMP" which will not create
an "Example:" box, or the short-form "::" code-block syntax which will
not apply QMP highlighting when used outside of the qmp-example
directive.
Why?
----
This patch has several benefits:
1. Example sections can now be written more arbitrarily, mixing
explanatory paragraphs and code blocks however desired.
2. Example sections can now use fully arbitrary rST.
3. All code blocks are now lexed and validated as QMP; increasing
usability of the docs and ensuring validity of example snippets.
(To some extent - This patch only gaurantees it lexes correctly, not
that it's valid under the JSON or QMP grammars. It will catch most
small mistakes, however.)
4. Each qmp-example can be titled or annotated independently without
bypassing the QMP lexer/validator.
(i.e. code blocks are now for *code* only, so we don't have to
sacrifice exposition for having lexically valid examples.)
NOTE: As with the "Notes" conversion (d461c27973), this patch (and the
three preceding) may change the rendering order for Examples in
the current generator. The forthcoming qapidoc rewrite will fix
this by always generating documentation in source order.

Python 3.13 is in beta and Fedora 41 is preparing to make it the default
system interpreter; enable testing for it.
(In the event problems develop prior to release, it should only impact
the check-python-tox job, which is not run by default and is allowed to
fail.)

Python 3.13 isn't out yet, but it's in beta and Fedora is ramping up to
make it the default system interpreter for Fedora 41.
They moved our cheese for where ContextManager lives; add a conditional
to locate it while we support both pre-3.9 and 3.13+.

When opening an image with discard=off, we punch hole in the image when
writing zeroes, making the image sparse. This breaks users that want to
ensure that writes cannot fail with ENOSPACE by using fully allocated
images[1].
bdrv_co_pwrite_zeroes() correctly disables BDRV_REQ_MAY_UNMAP if we
opened the child without discard=unmap or discard=on. But we don't go
through this function when accessing the top node. Move the check down
to bdrv_co_do_pwrite_zeroes() which seems to be used in all code paths.
This change implements the documented behavior, punching holes only when
opening the image with discard=on or discard=unmap. This may not be the
best default but can improve it later.
The test depends on a file system supporting discard, deallocating the
entire file when punching hole with the length of the entire file.
Tested with xfs, ext4, and tmpfs.

We do not need a dedicated section for notes. By eliminating a specially
parsed section, these notes can be treated as normal rST paragraphs in
the new QMP reference manual, and can be placed and styled much more
flexibly.
Convert all existing "Note" and "Notes" sections to pure rST. As part of
the conversion, capitalize the first letter of each sentence and add
trailing punctuation where appropriate to ensure notes look sensible and
consistent in rendered HTML documentation. Markup is also re-aligned to
the de-facto standard of 3 spaces for directives.
Update docs/devel/qapi-code-gen.rst to reflect the new paradigm, and
update the QAPI parser to prohibit "Note" sections while suggesting a
new syntax. The exact formatting to use is a matter of taste, but a good
candidate is simply:

... but there are other choices, too. The Sphinx readthedocs theme
offers theming for the following forms (capitalization unimportant); all

This patch uses ".. note::" almost everywhere, with just two "caution"
directives. Several instances of "Notes:" have been converted to
merely ".. note::", or multiple ".. note::" where appropriate.
".. admonition:: notes" is used in a few places where we had an
ordered list of multiple notes that would not make sense as
standalone/separate admonitions. Two "Note:" following "Example:"
have been turned into ordinary paragraphs within the example.
NOTE: Because qapidoc.py does not attempt to preserve source ordering of
sections, the conversion of Notes from a "tagged section" to an
"untagged section" means that rendering order for some notes *may
change* as a result of this patch. The forthcoming qapidoc.py rewrite
strictly preserves source ordering in the rendered documentation, so
this issue will be rectified in the new generator.

Change get_doc_indented() to preserve indentation on all subsequent text
lines, and create a compatibility dedent() function for qapidoc.py that
removes indentation the same way get_doc_indented() did.
This is being done for the benefit of a new qapidoc generator which
requires that indentation in argument and features sections are
preserved.
Prior to this patch, a section like this:

would have its body text be parsed into:
```
lorem ipsum
dolor sit amet
consectetur adipiscing elit
```
We want to preserve the indentation for even the first body line so that
the entire block can be parsed directly as rST. This patch would now
parse that segment into:

lorem ipsum
dolor sit amet
consectetur adipiscing elit
```
This is helpful for formatting arguments and features as field lists in
rST, where the new generator will format this information as:
```
:arg type name: lorem ipsum
dolor sit amet
consectetur apidiscing elit
```
...and can be formed by the simple concatenation of the field list
construct and the body text. The indents help preserve the continuation
of a block-level element, and further allow the use of additional rST
block-level constructs such as code blocks, lists, and other such
markup.
This understandably breaks the existing qapidoc.py; so a new function is
added there to dedent the text for compatibility. Once the new generator
is merged, this function will not be needed any longer and can be
dropped.
I verified this patch changes absolutely nothing by comparing the
md5sums of the QMP ref html pages both before and after the change, so
it's certified inert. QAPI test output has been updated to reflect the
new strategy of preserving indents for rST.

Currently setup_sd_card() asks the card its address,
but discard the response and use hardcoded 0x4567.
Set the SDHC_CMD_RESPONSE bit to have the controller
record the bus response, and read the response from
the RSPREG0 register. Then we can select the card with
its real address.

The only use of SME is inline assembly. Both gcc and clang only
support SME with very recent releases; by deferring detection to
the assembler we get better test coverage.

clang version 18.1.6 assumes a register is 64-bit by default and

Previously we are always specifying -u $(UID) to match the UID in the
container with one outside. This causes a problem with rootless Podman.
Rootless Podman remaps user IDs in the container to ones controllable
for the current user outside. The -u option instructs Podman to use
a specified UID in the container but does not affect the UID remapping.
Therefore, the UID in the container can be remapped to some other UID
outside the container. This can make the access to bind-mounted volumes
fail because the remapped UID mismatches with the owner of the
directories.
Replace -u $(UID) with --userns keep-id, which fixes the UID remapping.
This change is limited to Podman because Docker does not support
--userns keep-id.

Since machine name can be common for multiple architectures (ex: virt),
add "arch" in the path to search for expected AML files. Since the AML

edk2-funcs.sh which is used in this Makefile, was removed in the commit
c28a2891f3 ("edk2: update build script"). It is replaced with a python

`memory-backend-memfd` is available only on Linux while the new
`memory-backend-shm` can be used on any POSIX-compliant operating
system. Let's use it so we can run the test in multiple environments.
Since we are here, let`s remove `share=on` which is the default for shm
(and also for memfd).

The non-standard .fa library suffix breaks the link source
de-duplication done by Meson so drop it.
The lack of link source de-duplication causes AddressSanitizer to
complain ODR violations, and makes GNU ld abort when combined with
clang's LTO.
Fortunately, the non-standard suffix is not necessary anymore for
two reasons.
First, the non-standard suffix was necessary for fork-fuzzing.
Meson wraps all standard-suffixed libraries with --start-group and
--end-group. This made a fork-fuzz.ld linker script wrapped as well and
broke builds. Commit d2e6f9272d ("fuzz: remove fork-fuzzing
scaffolding") dropped fork-fuzzing so we can now restore the standard
suffix.
Second, the libraries are not even built anymore, because it is
possible to just use the object files directly via extract_all_objects().
The occurences of the suffix were detected and removed by performing
a tree-wide search with 'fa' and .fa (note the quotes and dot).

We used to request declare_dependency() to link_whole static libraries.
If a static library is a thin archive, GNU ld keeps all object files
referenced by the archive open, and sometimes exceeds the open file limit.
Another problem with link_whole is that suboptimal handling of nested
dependencies.
link_whole by itself does not propagate dependencies. In particular,
gnutls, a dependency of crypto, is not propagated to its users, and we
currently workaround the issue by declaring gnutls as a dependency for
each crypto user. On the other hand, if you write something like
libfoo = static_library('foo', 'foo.c', dependencies: gnutls)
foo = declare_dependency(link_whole: libfoo)
libbar = static_library('bar', 'bar.c', dependencies: foo)
bar = declare_dependency(link_whole: libbar, dependencies: foo)
executable('prog', sources: files('prog.c'), dependencies: [foo, bar])
hoping to propagate the gnutls dependency into bar.c, you'll see a
linking failure for "prog", because the foo.c.o object file is included in
libbar.a and therefore it is linked twice into "prog": once from libfoo.a
and once from libbar.a. Here Meson does not see the duplication, it
just asks the linker to link all of libfoo.a and libbar.a into "prog".
Instead of using link_whole, extract objects included in static libraries
and pass them to declare_dependency(); and then the dependencies can be
added as well so that they are propagated, because object files on the
linker command line are always deduplicated.
This requires Meson 1.1.0 or later.

One use case for 'qemu-img info' is verifying that untrusted images
don't reference an unwanted external file, be it as a backing file or an
external data file. To make sure that calling 'qemu-img info' can't
already have undesired side effects with a malicious image, just don't
open the data file at all with BDRV_O_NO_IO. If nothing ever tries to do
I/O, we don't need to have it open.
This changes the output of iotests case 061, which used 'qemu-img info'
to show that opening an image with an invalid data file fails. After
this patch, it succeeds. Replace this part of the test with a qemu-io
call, but keep the final 'qemu-img info' to show that the invalid data
file is correctly displayed in the output.

In the scenario where vhost-user sets eventfd to -1,
qemu_chr_fe_get_msgfds retrieves fd as -1. When vhost_user_read
receives, it does not perform blocking operations on the descriptor
with fd=-1, so non-blocking operations should not be performed here
either.This is a normal use case. Calling g_unix_set_fd_nonblocking
at this point will cause the test to interrupt.
When vhost_user_write sets the call fd to -1, it sets the number of
fds to 0, so the fds obtained by qemu_chr_fe_get_msgfds will also
be 0.

EXTI's new field `irq_levels` tracks irq levels between tests when using
`global_qtest`.
This happens in `stm32l4x5_exti-test.c`, `stm32l4x5_syscfg-test.c` and
`stm32l4x5_gpio-test.c` (`dm163.c` doesn't use `global_qtest`).
To ensure that `irq_levels` has the same value before and after each
QTest, this commit toggles back the irq lines that were changed at the
end of each problematic test. Most QTests were already doing this.

The QTest `test_irq_pin_multiplexer` makes the assumption that the
reset state of irq line 15 is low, which is false since STM32L4x5 GPIO
was implemented (the reset state of pin GPIOA15 is high because there's
pull-up and it results in the irq line 15 also being high at reset).
It wasn't triggering an error because `test_interrupt` was mistakenly
"resetting" the line low.
This commit corrects these two mistakes by :
- not setting the line low in `test_interrupt`
- using an irq line in `test_irq_pin_multiplexer` which is low at reset

The version of the sbsa-ref EDK2 firmware we used to use in this test
had a bug where it might make an unaligned access to the framebuffer,
which causes a guest crash on newer versions of QEMU where we enforce
the architectural requirement that unaligned accesses to Device memory
should take an exception.
We happened to not notice this because our test was booting with "-smp
1" and through luck this didn't write the boot logo to the framebuffer
at an unaligned address; but trying to boot the same firmware with two
CPUs would result in a guest crash. Now we have updated the firmware
we're using for the test, we can make the test use all the cores on the
board, so we are testing the SMP boot path.

Update firmware to have graphics card memory fix from EDK2 commit
c1d1910be6e04a8b1a73090cf2881fb698947a6e:
OvmfPkg/QemuVideoDxe: add feature PCD to remap framebuffer W/C
Some platforms (such as SBSA-QEMU on recent builds of the emulator) only
tolerate misaligned accesses to normal memory, and raise alignment
faults on such accesses to device memory, which is the default for PCIe
MMIO BARs.
When emulating a PCIe graphics controller, the framebuffer is typically
exposed via a MMIO BAR, while the disposition of the region is closer to
memory (no side effects on reads or writes, except for the changing
picture on the screen; direct random access to any pixel in the image).
In order to permit the use of such controllers on platforms that only
tolerate these types of accesses for normal memory, it is necessary to
remap the memory. Use the DXE services to set the desired capabilities
and attributes.
Hide this behavior under a feature PCD so only platforms that really
need it can enable it. (OVMF on x86 has no need for this)
With this fix enabled we can boot sbsa-ref with more than one cpu core.

Make sure there will be an event for postcopy recovery, irrelevant of
whether the reconnect will success, or when the failure happens.
The added new case is to fail early in postcopy recovery, in which case it
didn't even reach RECOVER stage on src (and in real life it'll be the same
to dest, but the test case is just slightly more involved due to the dual
socketpair setup).
To do that, rename the postcopy_recovery_test_fail to reflect either stage
to fail, instead of a boolean.

Libvirt should always enable it, so it'll be nice qtest also cover that for
all tests on both sides. migrate_incoming_qmp() used to enable it only on
dst, now we enable them on both, as we'll start to sanity check events even
on the src QEMU.
We'll need to leave the one in migrate_incoming_qmp(), because
virtio-net-failover test uses that one only, and it relies on the events to
work.

Add a multifd test for mapped-ram with passing of fds into QEMU. This
is how libvirt will consume the feature.
There are a couple of details to the fdset mechanism:
- multifd needs two distinct file descriptors (not duplicated with
dup()) so it can enable O_DIRECT only on the channels that do
aligned IO. The dup() system call creates file descriptors that
share status flags, of which O_DIRECT is one.
- the open() access mode flags used for the fds passed into QEMU need
to match the flags QEMU uses to open the file. Currently O_WRONLY
for src and O_RDONLY for dst.
Note that fdset code goes under _WIN32 because fd passing is not
supported on Windows.

monitor_fdsets_cleanup() currently has three responsibilities:
1- Remove the fds that have been marked for removal(->removed=true) by
qmp_remove_fd(). This is overly complicated, but ok.
2- Remove any file descriptors that have been passed into QEMU and
never duplicated[1,2]. A file descriptor without duplicates
indicates that no part of QEMU has made use of it. This is
problematic because the current implementation does it only if the
guest is not running and the monitor is closed.
3- Remove/free fdsets that have become empty due to the above
removals. This is ok.
The scenario described in (2) is starting to show some cracks now that
we're trying to consume fds from the migration code:
- Doing cleanup every time the last monitor connection closes works to
reap unused fds, but also has the side effect of forcing the
management layer to pass the file descriptors again in case of a
disconnect/re-connect, if that happened to be the only monitor
connection.
Another side effect is that removing an fd with qmp_remove_fd() is
effectively delayed until the last monitor connection closes.
The usage of mon_refcount is also problematic because it's racy.
- Checking runstate_is_running() skips the cleanup unless the VM is
running and avoids premature cleanup of the fds, but also has the
side effect of blocking the legitimate removal of an fd via
qmp_remove_fd() if the VM happens to be in another state.
This affects qmp_remove_fd() and qmp_query_fdsets() in particular
because requesting a removal at a bad time (guest stopped) might
cause an fd to never be removed, or to be removed at a much later
point in time, causing the query command to continue showing the
supposedly removed fd/fdset.
Note that file descriptors that *have* been duplicated are owned by
the code that uses them and will be removed after qemu_close() is
called. Therefore we've decided that the best course of action to
avoid the undesired side-effects is to stop managing non-duplicated
file descriptors.

Add a test for file migration using fdset. The passing of fds is more
complex than using a file path. This is also the scenario where it's
most important we ensure that the initial migration stream offset is
respected because the fdset interface is the one used by the
management layer when providing a non empty migration file.
Note that fd passing is not available on Windows, so anything that
uses add-fd needs to exclude that platform.

When doing file migration, QEMU accepts an offset that should be
skipped when writing the migration stream to the file. The purpose of
the offset is to allow the management layer to put its own metadata at
the start of the file.
We have tests for this in migration-test, but only testing that the
migration stream starts at the correct offset and not that it actually
leaves the data intact. Unsurprisingly, there's been a bug in that
area that the tests didn't catch.
Fix the tests to write some data to the offset region and check that
it's actually there after the migration.
While here, switch to using g_get_file_contents() which is more
portable than mmap().

Similar to other archs, build a custom bios memory updater. Running the
test with OF code is a cool trick, but SLOF takes a long time to boot.
This reduces test time by around 3x (150s to 50s).

The use case for this is `make check-tcg EXTFLAGS="-accel kvm"`,
which allows validating the system TCG testcases on real hardware.
EXTFLAGS name is borrowed from tests/tcg/xtensa/Makefile.softmmu-target.
While at it, use += instead of = in order to be consistent with the
other architectures.

It is better to check if some older cpu models like 486, athlon, pentium,
penryn, phenom, core2duo etc are available before running their corresponding
tests. Some downstream distributions may no longer support these older cpu
models.
Signature of add_feature_test() has been modified to return void as
FeatureTestArgs* was not used by the caller.
One minor correction. Replaced 'phenom' with '486' in the test
'x86/cpuid/auto-level/phenom/arat' matching the cpu used.

Added a new test api qtest_has_cpu_model() in order to check availability of
some cpu models in the current QEMU binary. The specific architecture of the
QEMU binary is selected using the QTEST_QEMU_BINARY environment variable.
This api would be useful to run tests against some older cpu models after
checking if QEMU actually supported these models.

At 09a7e7db0f (Hexagon (target/hexagon) Remove uses of
op_regs_generated.h.inc, 2024-03-06), we've changed the logic of
check_new_value() to use the new pre-calculated
packet->insn[...].dest_idx instead of calculating the index on the fly
using opcode_reginfo[...]. The dest_idx index is calculated roughly like
the following:
for reg in iset[tag]["syntax"]:
if reg.is_written():
dest_idx = regno
break
Thus, we take the first register that is writtable. Before that,
however, we also used to follow an alphabetical order on the register
type: 'd', 'e', 'x', and 'y'. No longer following that makes us select
the wrong register index and the HVX store new instruction does not
update the memory like expected.

Update to the latest version of lcitool. It dropped support for Fedora 38
and Alpine 3.18, so we have to update these to newer versions here, too.
Python 3.12 dropped the "imp" module which we still need for running
Avocado. Fortunately Fedora 40 still ships with a work-around package
that we can use until somebody updates our Avocado to a newer version.

Add loongarch virt machine to the graph. It is a modified copy of
the existing riscv virtmachine in riscv-virt-machine.c
It contains a generic-pcihost controller, and an extra function
loongarch_config_qpci_bus() to configure GPEX pci host controller
information, such as ecam and pio_base addresses.
Also hotplug handle checking about TYPE_VIRTIO_IOMMU_PCI device is
added on loongarch virt machine, since virtio_mmu_pci device requires
it.

Prevent regressions when using NBD with TLS in the presence of
iothreads, adding coverage the fix to qio channels made in the
previous patch.
The shell function pick_unused_port() was copied from
nbdkit.git/tests/functions.sh.in, where it had all authors from Red
Hat, agreeing to the resulting relicensing from 2-clause BSD to GPLv2.

We want to have similar QMP objects in different tests. Reworking these
objects to make common parts by calling some helper functions doesn't
seem good. It's a lot more comfortable to see the whole QAPI request in
one place.
So, let's increase the limit, to unblock further commit
"iotests: add backup-discard-source"

Currently block_copy creates copy_bitmap in source node. But that is in
bad relation with .independent_close=true of copy-before-write filter:
source node may be detached and removed before .bdrv_close() handler
called, which should call block_copy_state_free(), which in turn should
remove copy_bitmap.
That's all not ideal: it would be better if internal bitmap of
block-copy object is not attached to any node. But that is not possible
now.
The simplest solution is just create copy_bitmap in filter node, where
anyway two other bitmaps are created.

For modern cpus, the kernel uses xsave to store all extra
cpu state across the signal handler. For xsave/xrstor to
work, the pointer must be 64 byte aligned. Moreover, the
regular part of the signal frame must be 16 byte aligned.
Attempt to mirror the kernel code as much as possible.
Use enum FPStateKind instead of use_xsave() and use_fxsr().

If analyze-migration.py cannot be run or crashes, the error is currently
ignored since the code only checks for nonzero values in case the child
exited properly. For example, if you run the test with a non-existing
Python interpreter, it still succeeds:

On s390x, we recently had a regression that broke migration / savevm
(see commit bebe9603fc ("hw/intc/s390_flic: Fix crash that occurs when
saving the machine state"). The problem was merged without being noticed
since we currently do not run any migration / savevm related tests on
x86 hosts.
While we currently cannot run all migration tests for the s390x target
on x86 hosts yet (due to some unresolved issues with TCG), we can at
least run some of the non-live tests to avoid such problems in the future.
Thus enable the "analyze-script" and the "bad_dest" tests before checking
for KVM on s390x or ppc64 (this also fixes the problem that the
"analyze-script" test was not run on s390x at all anymore since it got
disabled again by accident in a previous refactoring of the code).

Support module level in i386 cpu topology structure "X86CPUTopoInfo".
Since x86 does not yet support the "modules" parameter in "-smp",
X86CPUTopoInfo.modules_per_die is currently always 1.
Therefore, the module level width in APIC ID, which can be calculated by
"apicid_bitwidth_for_count(topo_info->modules_per_die)", is always 0 for
now, so we can directly add APIC ID related helpers to support module
level parsing.
In addition, update topology structure in test-x86-topo.c.

GDB commit a207f6b3a38 ('Rewrite "python" command exception handling')
changed how exit() called from Python scripts loaded by GDB behave,
turning it into an exception instead of a generic error code that is
returned. This change caused several QEMU tests to crash with the
following exception:
Python Exception <class 'SystemExit'>: 0
Error occurred in Python: 0
This happens because in tests/guest-debug/test_gdbstub.py exit is
called after the tests have completed.
This commit fixes it by politely asking GDB to exit via gdb.execute,
passing the proper fail_count to be reported to 'make', instead of
abruptly calling exit() from the Python script.

hw/core/machine-smp: Deprecate unsupported "parameter=1" SMP configurations
but is not done as a 'git revert' since the part of the changes to the
file hw/core/machine-smp.c which add 'has_XXX' checks remain desirable.
Furthermore, we have to tweak the subsequently added unit test to
account for differing warning message.
The rationale for the original deprecation was:
"Currently, it was allowed for users to specify the unsupported
topology parameter as "1". For example, x86 PC machine doesn't
support drawer/book/cluster topology levels, but user could specify
"-smp drawers=1,books=1,clusters=1".
This is meaningless and confusing, so that the support for this kind
of configurations is marked deprecated since 9.0."
There are varying POVs on the topic of 'unsupported' topology levels.
It is common to say that on a system without hyperthreading, that there
is always 1 thread. Likewise when new CPUs introduced a concept of
multiple "dies', it was reasonable to say that all historical CPUs
before that implicitly had 1 'die'. Likewise for the more recently
introduced 'modules' and 'clusters' parameter'. From this POV, it is
valid to set 'parameter=1' on the -smp command line for any machine,
only a value > 1 is strictly an error condition.
It doesn't cause any functional difficulty for QEMU, because internally
the QEMU code is itself assuming that all "unsupported" parameters
implicitly have a value of '1'.
At the libvirt level, we've allowed applications to set 'parameter=1'
when configuring a guest, and pass that through to QEMU.
Deprecating this creates extra difficulty for because there's no info
exposed from QEMU about which machine types "support" which parameters.
Thus, libvirt can't know whether it is valid to pass 'parameter=1' for
a given machine type, or whether it will trigger deprecation messages.
Since there's no apparent functional benefit to deleting this deprecated
behaviour from QEMU, and it creates problems for consumers of QEMU,
remove this deprecation.

Run "make lcitool-refresh" after the previous changes to the
lcitool files. This removes the g++ and xfslibs-dev packages
from the dockerfiles (except for the fedora-win64-cross dockerfile

We don't need C++ for the normal QEMU builds anymore, so installing
g++ in each and every container seems to be a waste of time and disk
space. The only container that still needs it is the Fedora MinGW
container that builds the only remaining C++ code in ./qga/vss-win32/
and we can install it there with an extra project yml file instead.

ARM/aarch64 are easy to fix because they already have to pass a machine

Do the bare minimum to ensure that at least a vanilla
--without-default-devices build works for all targets except i386,
x86_64 and ppc64. In particular this fixes s390x-softmmu; i386 and
x86_64 have about a dozen failing tests that do not pass -M and therefore
require a default machine type; ppc64 has the same issue, though only
with numa-test.
If we can for now ignore the cases where boards and devices are picked
by hand, drive_del-test however can be fixed easily; almost all tests
check for the virtio-blk or virtio-scsi device that they use, and are
already skipped. Only one didn't get the memo; plus another one does
not need a machine at all and can be run with -M none.

The 'compress' migration capability enables the old compression code
which has shown issues over the years and is thought to be less stable
and tested than the more recent multifd-based compression. The old
compression code has been deprecated in 8.2 and now is time to remove
it.

The block migration is considered obsolete and has been deprecated in
8.2. Remove the migrate command option that enables it. This only
affects the QMP and HMP commands, the feature can still be accessed by
setting the migration 'block' capability. The whole feature will be
removed in a future patch.

A previous commit narrowed the type of .visit_alternate_type()
parameter @variants from QAPISchemaVariants to QAPISchemaAlternatives.
Rename it to @alternatives.
One of them passes @alternatives to helper function
gen_visit_alternate(). Rename its @variants parameter to
@alternatives as well.

However we were using the incorrect:

Fix by using the Rn register instead of Rm.

Exposing SYSCFG inputs to the SoC is practical in order to wire the SoC
to the optional DM163 display from the board code (GPIOs outputs need
to be connected to both SYSCFG inputs and DM163 inputs).
STM32L4x5 SYSCFG in-irq interception needed to be changed accordingly.

The Linux kernel 5.10.16 binary for sunxi has been removed from
apt.armbian.com. This means that the avocado tests for these machines
will be skipped (status CANCEL) if the old binary isn't present in
the avocado cache.
Update to 6.6.16, in the same way we did in commit e384db41d8
when we moved to 5.10.16 in 2021.

To control that creating new machine type doesn't affect the previous
types (their compat_props) and to check complex compat_props inheritance
we need qmp command to print machine type compatibility properties.
This patch adds the ability to get list of all the compat_props of the
corresponding supported machines for their comparison via new optional
argument of "query-machines" command. Since information on compatibility
properties can increase the command output by a factor of 40, add an
argument to enable it, default off.

RHEL 9 (and thus also the derivatives) have been available since two
years now, so according to QEMU's support policy, we can drop the active
support for the previous major version 8 now.
Another reason for doing this is that Centos Stream 8 will go EOL soon:

Alter migrate_qmp() to allow use of channels parameter, but only
fill the uri with correct port number if there are no channels.
Here we don't want to allow the wrong cases of having both or
none (ex: migrate_qmp_fail).

migrate_get_connect_qdict gets qdict with the dst QEMU parameters.
migrate_set_ports() from list of channels reads each QDict for port,
and fills the port with correct value in case it was 0 in the test.

Alter migrate_qmp_fail() to allow both uri and channels
independently. For channels, convert string to a Dict.
No dealing with migrate_get_socket_address() here because
we will fail before starting the migration anyway.

Refactor migrate_get_socket_address to internally utilize 'socket-address'
parameter, reducing redundancy in the function definition.
migrate_get_socket_address implicitly converts SocketAddress into str.
Move migrate_get_socket_address inside migrate_get_connect_uri which
should return the uri string instead.

Move the calls to migrate_get_socket_address() into migrate_qmp().
Get rid of connect_uri and replace it with args->connect_uri only
because 'to' object will help to generate connect_uri with the
correct port number.

Add the 'to' object into migrate_qmp(), so we can use
migrate_get_socket_address() inside migrate_qmp() to get
the port value. This is not applied to other migrate_qmp*
because they don't need the port.

Try not to test code that is not used by user mode emulation, or by the
block layer, unless they are being compiled; and fix test-timed-average
which was not compiled with --disable-system --enable-tools.
This is by no means complete, it only touches the more blatantly
wrong cases.
