Older QEMU versions did fixup the ram size to match what can be reported
via sclp. We need to mimic this behaviour for machine types 4.2 and
older to not fail on inbound migration for memory sizes that do not fit.
Old machines with proper aligned memory sizes are not affected.
Alignment table:
VM size (<=) | Alignment
--------------------------
1020M | 1M
2040M | 2M
4080M | 4M
8160M | 8M
16320M | 16M
32640M | 32M
65280M | 64M
130560M | 128M
261120M | 256M
522240M | 512M
1044480M | 1G
2088960M | 2G
4177920M | 4G
8355840M | 8G
Suggested action is to replace unaligned -m value with a suitable
aligned one or if a change to a newer machine type is possible, use a
machine version >= 5.0.
A future version might remove the compatibility handling.
For machine types >= 5.0 we can simply use an increment size of 1M and
use the full range of increment number which allows for all possible
memory sizes. The old limitation of having a maximum of 1020 increments
was added for standby memory, which we no longer support. With that we
can now support even weird memory sizes like 10001234 MB.
As we no longer fixup maxram_size as well, make other users use ram_size
instead. Keep using maxram_size when setting the maximum ram size in KVM,
as that will come in handy in the future when supporting memory hotplug
(in contrast, storage keys and storage attributes for hotplugged memory
will have to be migrated per RAM block in the future).

These functions add support for building EPYC mode topology given the smp
details like numa nodes, cores, threads and sockets.
The new apic id decoding is mostly similar to current apic id decoding
except that it adds a new field node_id when numa configured. Removes all

the topology.
Following functions are added.

While working on the Tulip driver i tried to write some Teledisk images to
a floppy image which didn't work. Turned out that Teledisk checks the written
data by issuing a READ command to the FDC but running the DMA controller
in VERIFY mode. As we ignored the DMA request in that case, the DMA transfer
never finished, and Teledisk reported an error.
The i8257 spec says about verify transfers:
3) DMA verify, which does not actually involve the transfer of data. When an
8257 channel is in the DMA verify mode, it will respond the same as described
for transfer operations, except that no memory or I/O read/write control signals
will be generated.
Hervé proposed to remove all the dma_mode_ok stuff from fdc to have a more
clear boundary between DMA and FDC, so this patch also does that.

Instead of checking the .bdrv_co_create_opts to see if we need the
fallback, just implement the .bdrv_co_create_opts in the drivers that
need it.
This way we don't break various places that need to know if the
underlying protocol/format really supports image creation, and this way
we still allow some drivers to not support image creation.
Fixes: fd17146cd9

Note that technically this driver reverts the image creation fallback
for the vxhs driver since I don't have a means to test it, and IMHO it
is better to leave it not supported as it was prior to generic image
creation patches.

Firstly, _next_dirty_area is for scenarios when we may contiguously
search for next dirty area inside some limited region, so it is more
comfortable to specify "end" which should not be recalculated on each
iteration.
Secondly, let's add a possibility to limit resulting area size, not
limiting searching area. This will be used in NBD code in further
commit. (Note that now bdrv_dirty_bitmap_next_dirty_area is unused)

We are going to introduce bdrv_dirty_bitmap_next_dirty so that same
variable may be used to store its return value and to be its parameter,
so it would int64_t.
Similarly, we are going to refactor hbitmap_next_dirty_area to use
hbitmap_next_dirty together with hbitmap_next_zero, therefore we want
hbitmap_next_zero parameter type to be int64_t too.
So, for convenience update all parameters of *_next_zero and
*_next_dirty_area to be int64_t.

The CPUClass has a 'reset' method. This is a legacy from when
TYPE_CPU used not to inherit from TYPE_DEVICE. We don't need it any
more, as we can simply use the TYPE_DEVICE reset. The 'cpu_reset()'
function is kept as the API which most places use to reset a CPU; it
is now a wrapper which calls device_cold_reset() and then the
tracepoint function.
This change should not cause CPU objects to be reset more often
than they are at the moment, because:
* nobody is directly calling device_cold_reset() or
qdev_reset_all() on CPU objects
* no CPU object is on a qbus, so they will not be reset either
by somebody calling qbus_reset_all()/bus_cold_reset(), or
by the main "reset sysbus and everything in the qbus tree"
reset that most devices are reset by
Note that this does not change the need for each machine or whatever
to use qemu_register_reset() to arrange to call cpu_reset() -- that
is necessary because CPU objects are not on any qbus, so they don't
get reset when the qbus tree rooted at the sysbus bus is reset, and
this isn't being changed here.
All the changes to the files under target/ were made using the
included Coccinelle script, except:
(1) the deletion of the now-inaccurate and not terribly useful
"CPUClass::reset" comments was done with a perl one-liner afterwards:
perl -n -i -e '/ CPUClass::reset/ or print' target/*/*.c
(2) this bit of the s390 change was done by hand, because the
Coccinelle script is not sophisticated enough to handle the
parent_reset call being inside another function:

As mentioned in the previous patch, our use of QemuOpt group "netdev"
has two purposes: collect the CLI arguments, and serve as a witness
for monitor hotplug actions. As the latter didn't use anything but an
id, it felt rather unclean to have to touch QemuOpts at all when going
through QMP, so let's instead track things with a bool field in
NetClientState.

We've had all the required pieces for doing a type-safe representation
of netdev_add as a flat union for quite some time now (since
0e55c381f6 in v2.7.0, released in 2016), but did not make the final
switch to using it because of concern about whether a command-line
regression in accepting "1" in place of 1 for integer arguments would
be problematic. Back then, we did not have the deprecation cycle to
allow us to make progress. But now that we have waited so long, other
problems have crept in: for example, our desire to add
qemu-storage-daemon is hampered by the inability to express net
objects, and we are unable to introspect what we actually accept.
Additionally, our round-trip through QemuOpts silently eats any
argument that expands to an array, rendering dnssearch, hostfwd, and
guestfwd useless through QMP:
{"execute": "netdev_add", "arguments": { "id": "netdev0",
"type": "user", "dnssearch": [
{ "str": "8.8.8.8" }, { "str": "8.8.4.4" }
]}}
So without further ado, let's turn on proper QAPI. netdev_add() was a
trivial wrapper around net_client_init(), which did a few steps prior
to calling net_client_init1(); with this patch, we now skip directly
to net_client_init1(). In addition to fixing array parameters, the
following additional differences occur:
- {"execute": "netdev_add", "arguments": {"type": "help"}}
no longer attempts to print help to stdout and exit. Bug fix, broken
in 547203ead4 'net: List available netdevs with "-netdev help"',
v2.12.0.
- {"execute": "netdev_add", "arguments': {... "ipv6-net": "..." }}
no longer attempts to desugar the undocumented ipv6-net magic string
into the proper "ipv6-prefix" and "ipv6-prefixlen". Undocumented
misfeature, introduced in commit 7aac531ef2 "qapi-schema, qemu-options
& slirp: Adding Qemu options for IPv6 addresses", v2.6.0.
- {'execute':'netdev_add',
'arguments':{'id':'net2', 'type':'hubport', 'hubid':"2"}}
{"error": {"class": "GenericError", "desc": "Invalid parameter type for 'hubid', expected: integer"}}
Used to succeed: since our command line treats everything as strings,
our not-so-round-trip conversion from QAPI -> QemuOpts -> QAPI lost
the original typing and turned everything into a string; now that we
skip the QemuOpts, the JSON input has to match the exact QAPI type.
But this stricter QMP is desirable, and introspection is sufficient
for any affected applications to make sure they use it correctly.
In qmp_netdev_add(), we still have to create a QemuOpts object so that
qmp_netdev_del() will be able to remove a hotplugged network device;
but the opts->head remains empty since we now manage all parsing
through the QAPI object rather than QemuOpts; a separate patch will
address the abuse of QemuOpts as a witness for whether a
NetClientState is a netdev. In the meantime, our argument that we are
okay requires auditing all uses of option group "netdev":
- qemu_netdev_opts: option group definition, empty .desc[]
- CLI (CLI netdev parsing ends before monitors start, so while
monitors can mess with CLI netdevs, CLI cannot mess with
monitor netdevs):
- main() case QEMU_OPTION_netdev: store CLI definition
- main() case QEMU_OPTION_readconfig, case QEMU_OPTION_writeconfig:
similar, dealing only with CLI

This patch introduces two lock guard macros that automatically unlock a

return; /* automatically unlocks mutex */
}
...
}
and:
WITH_QEMU_LOCK_GUARD(&mutex) {
if (!may_fail()) {
return; /* automatically unlocks mutex */

/* automatically unlocks mutex here */

Convert qemu-timer.c functions that benefit from these macros as an
example. Manual qemu_mutex_lock/unlock() callers are left unmodified in

At the moment SLOF reserves space for RTAS and instantiates the RTAS blob
which is 20 bytes binary blob calling an hypercall. The rest of the RTAS
area is a log which SLOF has no idea about but QEMU does.
This moves RTAS sizing to QEMU and this overrides the size from SLOF.
The only remaining problem is that SLOF copies the number of bytes it
reserved (2KB for now) so QEMU needs to reserve at least this much;
SLOF will be fixed separately to check that rtas-size from QEMU is

In spapr_machine_init() we clamp the size of the RMA to 16GiB and the
comment saying why doesn't make a whole lot of sense. In fact, this was
done because the real mode handling code elsewhere limited the RMA in TCG
mode to the maximum value configurable in LPCR[RMLS], 16GiB.
But,
* Actually LPCR[RMLS] has been able to encode a 256GiB size for a very
long time, we just didn't implement it properly in the softmmu
* LPCR[RMLS] shouldn't really be relevant anyway, it only was because we
used to abuse the RMOR based translation mode in order to handle the
fact that we're not modelling the hypervisor parts of the cpu
We've now removed those limitations in the modelling so the 16GiB clamp no
longer serves a function. However, we can't just remove the limit
universally: that would break migration to earlier qemu versions, where
the 16GiB RMLS limit still applies, no matter how bad the reasons for it
are.
So, we replace the 16GiB clamp, with a clamp to a limit defined in the
machine type class. We set it to 16 GiB for machine types 4.2 and earlier,
but set it to 0 meaning unlimited for the new 5.0 machine type.

The Real Mode Area (RMA) is the part of memory which a guest can access
when in real (MMU off) mode. Of course, for a guest under KVM, the MMU
isn't really turned off, it's just in a special translation mode - Virtual
Real Mode Area (VRMA) - which looks like real mode in guest mode.
The mechanics of how this works when using the hash MMU (HPT) put a
constraint on the size of the RMA, which depends on the size of the
HPT. So, the latter part of spapr_setup_hpt_and_vrma() clamps the RMA
we advertise to the guest based on this VRMA limit.
There are several things wrong with this:
1) spapr_setup_hpt_and_vrma() doesn't actually clamp, it takes the minimum
of Node 0 memory size and the VRMA limit. That will *often* work the
same as clamping, but there can be other constraints on RMA size which
supersede Node 0 memory size. We have real bugs caused by this
(currently worked around in the guest kernel)
2) Some callers of spapr_setup_hpt_and_vrma() are in a situation where
we're past the point that we can actually advertise an RMA limit to the
guest
3) But most fundamentally, the VRMA limit depends on host configuration
(page size) which shouldn't be visible to the guest, but this partially
exposes it. This can cause problems with migration in certain edge
cases, although we will mostly get away with it.
In practice, this clamping is almost never applied anyway. With 64kiB
pages and the normal rules for sizing of the HPT, the theoretical VRMA
limit will be 4x(guest memory size) and so never hit. It will hit with
4kiB pages, where it will be (guest memory size)/4. However all mainstream
distro kernels for POWER have used a 64kiB page size for at least 10 years.
So, simply replace this logic with a check that the RMA we've calculated
based only on guest visible configuration will fit within the host implied
VRMA limit. This can break if running HPT guests on a host kernel with
4kiB page size. As noted that's very rare. There also exist several
possible workarounds:
* Change the host kernel to use 64kiB pages
* Use radix MMU (RPT) guests instead of HPT
* Use 64kiB hugepages on the host to back guest memory
* Increase the guest memory size so that the RMA hits one of the fixed
limits before the RMA limit. This is relatively easy on POWER8 which
has a 16GiB limit, harder on POWER9 which has a 1TiB limit.
* Use a guest NUMA configuration which artificially constrains the RMA
within the VRMA limit (the RMA must always fit within Node 0).
Previously, on KVM, we also temporarily reduced the rma_size to 256M so
that the we'd load the kernel and initrd safely, regardless of the VRMA
limit. This was a) confusing, b) could significantly limit the size of
images we could load and c) introduced a behavioural difference between
KVM and TCG. So we remove that as well.

If a hot plug or unplug request is pending at CAS, we currently trigger
a CAS reboot, which severely increases the guest boot time. This is
because SLOF doesn't handle hot plug events and we had no way to fix
the FDT that gets presented to the guest.
We can do better thanks to recent changes in QEMU and SLOF:
- we now return a full FDT to SLOF during CAS
- SLOF was fixed to correctly detect any device that was either added or
removed since boot time and to update its internal DT accordingly.
The right solution is to process all pending hot plug/unplug requests
during CAS: convert hot plugged devices to cold plugged devices and
remove the hot unplugged ones, which is exactly what spapr_drc_reset()
does. Also clear all hot plug events that are currently queued since
they're no longer relevant.
Note that SLOF cannot currently populate hot plugged PCI bridges or PHBs
at CAS. Until this limitation is lifted, SLOF will reset the machine when
this scenario occurs : this will allow the FDT to be fully processed when
SLOF is started again (ie. the same effect as the CAS reboot that would
occur anyway without this patch).

Traditionally, the uint-specific property helpers only offer getters.
When adding object (or class) uint types, one must therefore use the
generic property helper if a setter is needed (and probably duplicate
some code writing their own getters/setters).
This enhances the uint-specific property helper APIs by adding a
bitwise-or'd 'flags' field and modifying all clients of that API to set
this paramater to OBJ_PROP_FLAG_READ. This maintains the current
behaviour whilst allowing others to also set OBJ_PROP_FLAG_WRITE (or use
the more convenient OBJ_PROP_FLAG_READWRITE) in the future (which will
automatically install a setter). Other flags may be added later.

A real Allwinner H3 SoC contains a Boot ROM which is the
first code that runs right after the SoC is powered on.
The Boot ROM is responsible for loading user code (e.g. a bootloader)
from any of the supported external devices and writing the downloaded
code to internal SRAM. After loading the SoC begins executing the code
written to SRAM.
This commits adds emulation of the Boot ROM firmware setup functionality
by loading user code from SD card in the A1 SRAM. While the A1 SRAM is
64KiB, we limit the size to 32KiB because the real H3 Boot ROM also rejects
sizes larger than 32KiB. For reference, this behaviour is documented
by the Linux Sunxi project wiki at:

Using the new 'bdrv_co_delete_file' interface, a pure co_routine function
'bdrv_co_delete_file' inside block.c can can be used in a way similar of
the existing bdrv_create_file to to clean up a created file.
We're creating a pure co_routine because the only caller of
'bdrv_co_delete_file' will be already in co_routine context, thus there
is no need to add all the machinery to check for qemu_in_coroutine() and
create a separated co_routine to do the job.

Assume we have two regions, A and B, and region B is in-flight now,
region A is not yet touched, but it is unallocated and should be
skipped.
Correspondingly, as progress we have
total = A + B
current = 0
If we reset unallocated region A and call progress_reset_callback,
it will calculate 0 bytes dirty in the bitmap and call
job_progress_set_remaining, which will set
total = current + 0 = 0 + 0 = 0
So, B bytes are actually removed from total accounting. When job
finishes we'll have
total = 0
current = B
, which doesn't sound good.
This is because we didn't considered in-flight bytes, actually when
calculating remaining, we should have set (in_flight + dirty_bytes)
as remaining, not only dirty_bytes.
To fix it, let's refactor progress calculation, moving it to block-copy
itself instead of fixing callback. And, of course, track in_flight
bytes count.
We still have to keep one callback, to maintain backup job bytes_read
calculation, but it will go on soon, when we turn the whole backup
process into one block_copy call.

When there are many poll handlers it's likely that some of them are idle
most of the time. Remove handlers that haven't had activity recently so
that the polling loop scales better for guests with a large number of
devices.
This feature only takes effect for the Linux io_uring fd monitoring
implementation because it is capable of combining fd monitoring with
userspace polling. The other implementations can't do that and risk
starving fds in favor of poll handlers, so don't try this optimization
when they are in use.
IOPS improves from 10k to 105k when the guest has 100
virtio-blk-pci,num-queues=32 devices and 1 virtio-blk-pci,num-queues=1

Unlike ppoll(2) and epoll(7), Linux io_uring completions can be polled
from userspace. Previously userspace polling was only allowed when all
AioHandler's had an ->io_poll() callback. This prevented starvation of
fds by userspace pollable handlers.
Add the FDMonOps->need_wait() callback that enables userspace polling
even when some AioHandlers lack ->io_poll().
For example, it's now possible to do userspace polling when a TCP/IP
socket is monitored thanks to Linux io_uring.

The recent Linux io_uring API has several advantages over ppoll(2) and
epoll(2). Details are given in the source code.
Add an io_uring implementation and make it the default on Linux.
Performance is the same as with epoll(7) but later patches add
optimizations that take advantage of io_uring.
It is necessary to change how aio_set_fd_handler() deals with deleting
AioHandlers since removing monitored file descriptors is asynchronous in
io_uring. fdmon_io_uring_remove() marks the AioHandler deleted and
aio_set_fd_handler() will let it handle deletion in that case.

The AioHandler *node, bool is_new arguments are more complicated to
think about than simply being given AioHandler *old_node, AioHandler
*new_node.
Furthermore, the new Linux io_uring file descriptor monitoring mechanism
added by the new patch requires access to both the old and the new
nodes. Make this change now in preparation.

The ppoll(2) and epoll(7) file descriptor monitoring implementations are
mixed with the core util/aio-posix.c code. Before adding another
implementation for Linux io_uring, extract out the existing
ones so there is a clear interface and the core code is simpler.
The new interface is AioContext->fdmon_ops, a pointer to a FDMonOps
struct. See the patch for details.
Semantic changes:
1. ppoll(2) now reflects events from pollfds[] back into AioHandlers
while we're still on the clock for adaptive polling. This was
already happening for epoll(7), so if it's really an issue then we'll
need to fix both in the future.
2. epoll(7)'s fallback to ppoll(2) while external events are disabled
was broken when the number of fds exceeded the epoll(7) upgrade
threshold. I guess this code path simply wasn't tested and no one
noticed the bug. I didn't go out of my way to fix it but the correct
code is simpler than preserving the bug.
I also took some liberties in removing the unnecessary
AioContext->epoll_available (just check AioContext->epollfd != -1
instead) and AioContext->epoll_enabled (it's implicit if our
AioContext->fdmon_ops callbacks are being invoked) fields.

Do not leave stale linked list pointers around after removal. It's
safer to set them to NULL so that use-after-removal results in an
immediate segfault.
The RCU queue removal macros are unchanged since nodes may still be
traversed after removal.

Make hot-plug/hot-unplug on PCIe Root Ports optional to allow libvirt
manage it and restrict unplug for the whole machine. This is going to
prevent user-initiated unplug in guests (Windows mostly).
Hotplug is enabled by default.
Usage:
-device pcie-root-port,hotplug=off,...
If you want to disable hot-unplug on some downstream ports of one
switch, disable hot-unplug on PCIe Root Port connected to the upstream
port as well as on the selected downstream ports.

This adds a new QAPI-based monitor_init() function. The existing
monitor_init_opts() is rewritten to simply put its QemuOpts parameter
into a visitor and pass the resulting QAPI object to monitor_init().
This will cause some change in those error messages for the monitor
options in the system emulator that are now generated by the visitor
rather than explicitly checked in monitor_init_opts().

additional nesting would be nasty on the command line.

It looks like a false-positive because only (MO_UB ^ MO_BSWAP) will
hit the default case in load_memop() while need_swap (size > 1) has
already ensured that MO_UB is not involved.
So the thing is that compilers get confused by the -fno-inline and
just can't accurately evaluate memop_size(op) at compile time, and
then the qemu_build_not_reached() is wrongly triggered by (MO_UB ^
MO_BSWAP). Let's carefully don't use the compile-time assert when
no functions will be inlined into their callers.

The GICv2 allows the implementation to implement a variable number
of priority bits; unimplemented bits in the priority registers
are read as zeros, writes ignored. We were previously always
implementing a full 8 bits of priority, which is allowed but not
what the real hardware typically does (which is usually to have
4 or 5 bits of priority).
Add a new device property to allow the number of implemented
property bits to be specified.

It is not safe to close an event channel from the QEMU main thread when
that channel's poller is running in IOThread context.
This patch adds a new xen_device_set_event_channel_context() function
to explicitly assign the channel AioContext, and modifies
xen_device_bind_event_channel() to initially assign the channel's poller
to the QEMU main thread context. The code in xen-block's dataplane is
then modified to assign the channel to IOThread context during
xen_block_dataplane_start() and de-assign it during in
xen_block_dataplane_stop(), such that the channel is always assigned
back to main thread context before it is closed. aio_set_fd_handler()
already deals with all the necessary synchronization when moving an fd
between AioContext-s so no extra code is needed to manage this.

Adds the "virtio,pci-iommu" node in the host bridge node and
the RID mapping, excluding the IOMMU RID.
This is done in the virtio-iommu-pci hotplug handler which
gets called only if no firmware is loaded or if -no-acpi is
passed on the command line. As non DT integration is
not yet supported by the kernel we must make sure we
are in DT mode. This limitation will be removed as soon

This patch implements the endpoint attach/detach to/from
a domain.
Domain and endpoint internal datatypes are introduced.
Both are stored in RB trees. The domain owns a list of
endpoints attached to it. Also helpers to get/put
end points and domains are introduced.
As for the IOMMU memory regions, a callback is called on
PCI bus enumeration that initializes for a given device
on the bus hierarchy an IOMMU memory region. The PCI bus
hierarchy is stored locally in IOMMUPciBus and IOMMUDevice
objects.
At the time of the enumeration, the bus number may not be
computed yet.
So operations that will need to retrieve the IOMMUdevice
and its IOMMU memory region from the bus number and devfn,
once the bus number is garanteed to be frozen, use an array
of IOMMUPciBus, lazily populated.

This series removes ad hoc RAM allocation API (memory_region_allocate_system_memory)
and consolidates it around hostmem backend. It allows to
* resolve conflicts between global -mem-prealloc and hostmem's "policy" option,
fixing premature allocation before binding policy is applied
* simplify complicated memory allocation routines which had to deal with 2 ways
to allocate RAM.
* reuse hostmem backends of a choice for main RAM without adding extra CLI
options to duplicate hostmem features. A recent case was -mem-shared, to
enable vhost-user on targets that don't support hostmem backends [1] (ex: s390)
* move RAM allocation from individual boards into generic machine code and
provide them with prepared MemoryRegion.
* clean up deprecated NUMA features which were tied to the old API (see patches)
- "numa: remove deprecated -mem-path fallback to anonymous RAM"
- (POSTPONED, waiting on libvirt side) "forbid '-numa node,mem' for 5.0 and newer machine types"
- (POSTPONED) "numa: remove deprecated implicit RAM distribution between nodes"
Introduce a new machine.memory-backend property and wrapper code that aliases
global -mem-path and -mem-alloc into automatically created hostmem backend
properties (provided memory-backend was not set explicitly given by user).
A bulk of trivial patches then follow to incrementally convert individual
boards to using machine.memory-backend provided MemoryRegion.
Board conversion typically involves:
* providing MachineClass::default_ram_size and MachineClass::default_ram_id
so generic code could create default backend if user didn't explicitly provide
memory-backend or -m options
* dropping memory_region_allocate_system_memory() call
* using convenience MachineState::ram MemoryRegion, which points to MemoryRegion
allocated by ram-memdev
On top of that for some boards:
* missing ram_size checks are added (typically it were boards with fixed ram size)
* ram_size fixups are replaced by checks and hard errors, forcing user to
provide correct "-m" values instead of ignoring it and continuing running.
After all boards are converted, the old API is removed and memory allocation
routines are cleaned up.

A program might rely on functions implemented in vl.c, but implement its
own main(). By placing main into a separate source file, there are no
complaints about duplicate main()s when linking against vl.o. For
example, the virtual-device fuzzer uses a main() provided by libfuzzer,
and needs to perform some initialization before running the softmmu
initialization. Now, main simply calls three vl.c functions which
handle the guest initialization, main loop and cleanup.

The ctx->first_bh list contains all created BHs, including those that
are not scheduled. The list is iterated by the event loop and therefore
has O(n) time complexity with respected to the number of created BHs.
Rewrite BHs so that only scheduled or deleted BHs are enqueued.
Only BHs that actually require action will be iterated.
One semantic change is required: qemu_bh_delete() enqueues the BH and
therefore invokes aio_notify(). The
tests/test-aio.c:test_source_bh_delete_from_cb() test case assumed that
g_main_context_iteration(NULL, false) returns false after
qemu_bh_delete() but it now returns true for one iteration. Fix up the
test case.
This patch makes aio_compute_timeout() and aio_bh_poll() drop from a CPU
profile reported by perf-top(1). Previously they combined to 9% CPU
utilization when AioContext polling is commented out and the guest has 2
virtio-blk,num-queues=1 and 99 virtio-blk,num-queues=32 devices.

We currently don't support hotplug of devices between boot and CAS. If
this happens a CAS reboot is triggered. We detect this during CAS using
the spapr_drc_needed() function which is essentially a VMStateDescription
.needed callback. Even if the condition for CAS reboot happens to be the
same as for DRC migration, it looks wrong to piggyback a migration helper
for this.
Introduce a helper with slightly more explicit name and use it in both CAS
and DRC migration code. Since a subsequent patch will enhance this helper
to cover the case of hot unplug, let's go for spapr_drc_transient(). While
here convert spapr_hotplugged_dev_before_cas() to the "transient" wording as
well.
This doesn't change any behaviour.

This patch implements few of the necessary hcalls for the nvdimm support.
PAPR semantics is such that each NVDIMM device is comprising of multiple
SCM(Storage Class Memory) blocks. The guest requests the hypervisor to
bind each of the SCM blocks of the NVDIMM device using hcalls. There can
be SCM block unbind requests in case of driver errors or unplug(not
supported now) use cases. The NVDIMM label read/writes are done through
hcalls.
Since each virtual NVDIMM device is divided into multiple SCM blocks,
the bind, unbind, and queries using hcalls on those blocks can come
independently. This doesn't fit well into the qemu device semantics,
where the map/unmap are done at the (whole)device/object level granularity.
The patch doesnt actually bind/unbind on hcalls but let it happen at the
device_add/del phase itself instead.
The guest kernel makes bind/unbind requests for the virtual NVDIMM device
at the region level granularity. Without interleaving, each virtual NVDIMM
device is presented as a separate guest physical address range. So, there
is no way a partial bind/unbind request can come for the vNVDIMM in a
hcall for a subset of SCM blocks of a virtual NVDIMM. Hence it is safe to
do bind/unbind everything during the device_add/del.

Add support for NVDIMM devices for sPAPR. Piggyback on existing nvdimm
device interface in QEMU to support virtual NVDIMM devices for Power.
Create the required DT entries for the device (some entries have
dummy values right now).
The patch creates the required DT node and sends a hotplug
interrupt to the guest. Guest is expected to undertake the normal
DR resource add path in response and start issuing PAPR SCM hcalls.
The device support is verified based on the machine version unlike x86.
This is how it can be used ..
Ex :
For coldplug, the device to be added in qemu command line as shown below

For hotplug, the device to be added from monitor as below

When option -mem-prealloc is used with one or more memory-backend
objects, created backends may not obey configured bind policy or
creation may fail after kernel attempts to move pages according
to bind policy.
Reason is in file_ram_alloc(), which will pre-allocate
any descriptor based RAM if global mem_prealloc != 0 and that
happens way before bind policy is applied to memory range.
One way to fix it would be to extend memory_region_foo() API
and add more invariants that could broken later due implicit
dependencies that's hard to track.
Another approach is to drop adhoc main RAM allocation and
consolidate it around memory-backend. That allows to have
single place that allocates guest RAM (main and memdev)
in the same way and then global mem_prealloc could be
replaced by backend's property[s] that will affect created
memory-backend objects but only in correct order this time.
With main RAM now converted to hostmem backends, there is no
point in keeping global mem_prealloc around, so alias
-mem-prealloc to "memory-backend.prealloc=on"
machine compat[*] property and make mem_prealloc a local
variable to only stir registration of compat property.
*) currently user accessible -global works only with DEVICE
based objects and extra work is needed to make it work
with hostmem backends. But that is convenience option
and out of scope of this already huge refactoring.
Hence machine compat properties were used.

the property will allow user to specify number of threads to use
in pre-allocation stage. It also will allow to reduce implicit

On object creation it will default to 1, but via machine

It's supposed that SOC will check if "-m" provided
RAM size is valid by setting "ram-size" property and
then board would read back valid (possibly corrected
value) to map RAM MemoryReging with valid size.
It isn't doing so, since check is called only
indirectly from
aspeed_sdmc_reset()->asc->compute_conf()
or much later when guest writes to configuration
register.
So depending on "-m" value QEMU end-ups with a warning
and an invalid MemoryRegion size allocated and mapped.
(examples:
-M ast2500-evb -m 1M
0000000080000000-000000017ffffffe (prio 0, i/o): aspeed-ram-container
0000000080000000-00000000800fffff (prio 0, ram): ram
0000000080100000-00000000bfffffff (prio 0, i/o): max_ram
-M ast2500-evb -m 3G
0000000080000000-000000017ffffffe (prio 0, i/o): aspeed-ram-container

[DETECTED OVERFLOW!] 0000000140000000-00000000bfffffff (prio 0, i/o): max_ram
)
On top of that sdmc falls back and reports to guest
"default" size, it thinks machine should have.
This patch makes ram-size check actually work and
changes behavior from a warning later on during
machine reset to error_fatal at the moment SOC.ram-size
is set so user will have to fix RAM size on CLI
to start machine.
It also gets out of the way mutable ram-size logic,
so we could consolidate RAM allocation logic around
pre-allocated hostmem backend (supplied by user or
auto created by generic machine code depending on
supplied -m/mem-path/mem-prealloc options.

logging subsystem rather than the older `gemu_log` (notice the "g")
logger. `qemu_log` has several advantages, namely that it allows logging
to a file, and provides a more unified interface for configuration
of logging (via the QEMU_LOG environment variable or options).
This change introduces a new log mask: `LOG_STRACE` which is used for
logging of user-mode strace messages.

After a couple of follow-up patches, this function will replace
bdrv_recurse_is_first_non_filter() in check_to_replace_node().
bdrv_recurse_is_first_non_filter() is both not sufficiently specific for
check_to_replace_node() (it allows cases that should not be allowed,
like replacing child nodes of quorum with dissenting data that have more
parents than just quorum), and it is too restrictive (it is perfectly
fine to replace filters).

This is a fairly light-weight pull request, but I wanted to send it out to
avoid the Goldfish stuff getting buried as the next PR should contain the H
extension implementation.
As far as this PR goes, it contains:
* The addition of syscon device tree nodes for reboot and poweroff, which
allows Linux to control QEMU without an additional driver. The existing
device was already compatible with the syscon interface.
* A fix to our GDB stub to avoid confusing XLEN and FLEN, specifically useful
for rv32id-based systems.
* A device emulation for the Goldfish RTC device, a simple memory-mapped RTC.
* The addition of the Goldfish RTC device to the RISC-V virt board.
This passes "make check" and boots buildroot for me.

Some older parts of QEMU's codebase assume that CLOCK_MONOTONIC
might not be defined by the host OS, and have workarounds to
deal with this. However, more recently (notably in commit
50290c002c for qemu-img in mid-2019, but also much
earlier in 2011 in commit 22795174a3 for ui/spice-display.c)
we've written code that assumes CLOCK_MONOTONIC is always
defined. The only host OS anybody's ever noticed this on
is OSX 10.11 and earlier, which we don't support.
So we can assume that all our host OSes have the #define,
and we can remove some now-unnecessary ifdefs.

This patch adds support in QEMU to handle "ibm,nmi-register"
and "ibm,nmi-interlock" RTAS calls.
The machine check notification address is saved when the
OS issues "ibm,nmi-register" RTAS call.
This patch also handles the case when multiple processors
experience machine check at or about the same time by
handling "ibm,nmi-interlock" call. In such cases, as per
PAPR, subsequent processors serialize waiting for the first
processor to issue the "ibm,nmi-interlock" call. The second
processor that also received a machine check error waits
till the first processor is done reading the error log.
The first processor issues "ibm,nmi-interlock" call
when the error log is consumed.

Upon a machine check exception (MCE) in a guest address space,
KVM causes a guest exit to enable QEMU to build and pass the
error to the guest in the PAPR defined rtas error log format.
This patch builds the rtas error log, copies it to the rtas_addr
and then invokes the guest registered machine check handler. The
handler in the guest takes suitable action(s) depending on the type
and criticality of the error. For example, if an error is
unrecoverable memory corruption in an application inside the
guest, then the guest kernel sends a SIGBUS to the application.
For recoverable errors, the guest performs recovery actions and
logs the error.

This is a model of the PCIe Host Bridge (PHB3) found on a POWER8
processor. It includes the PowerBus logic interface (PBCQ), IOMMU
support, a single PCIe Gen.3 Root Complex, and support for MSI and LSI
interrupt sources as found on a POWER8 system using the XICS interrupt
controller.
The POWER8 processor comes in different flavors: Venice, Murano,
Naple, each having a different number of PHBs. To make things simpler,
the models provides 3 PHB3 per chip. Some platforms, like the
Firestone, can also couple PHBs on the first chip to provide more
bandwidth but this is too specific to model in QEMU.
XICS requires some adjustment to support the PHB3 MSI. The changes are
provided here but they could be decoupled in prereq patches.

These changes introduces models for the PCIe Host Bridge (PHB4) of the
POWER9 processor. It includes the PowerBus logic interface (PBCQ),
IOMMU support, a single PCIe Gen.4 Root Complex, and support for MSI
and LSI interrupt sources as found on a POWER9 system using the XIVE
interrupt controller.
POWER9 processor comes with 3 PHB4 PEC (PCI Express Controller) and
each PEC can have several PHBs. By default,
* PEC0 provides 1 PHB (PHB0)
* PEC1 provides 2 PHBs (PHB1 and PHB2)
* PEC2 provides 3 PHBs (PHB3, PHB4 and PHB5)
Each PEC has a set "global" registers and some "per-stack" (per-PHB)
registers. Those are organized in two XSCOM ranges, the "Nest" range
and the "PCI" range, each range contains both some "PEC" registers and
some "per-stack" registers.
No default device layout is provided and PCI devices can be added on
any of the available PCIe Root Port (pcie.0 .. 2 of a Power9 chip)
with address 0x0 as the firwware (skiboot) only accepts a single
device per root port. To run a simple system with a network and a
storage adapters, use a command line options such as :
-device e1000e,netdev=net0,mac=C0:FF:EE:00:00:02,bus=pcie.0,addr=0x0
-netdev bridge,id=net0,helper=/usr/libexec/qemu-bridge-helper,br=virbr0,id=hostnet0
-device megasas,id=scsi0,bus=pcie.1,addr=0x0
-drive file=$disk,if=none,id=drive-scsi0-0-0-0,format=qcow2,cache=none
-device scsi-hd,bus=scsi0.0,channel=0,scsi-id=0,lun=0,drive=drive-scsi0-0-0-0,id=scsi0-0-0-0,bootindex=2
If more are needed, include a bridge.
Multi chip is supported, each chip adding its set of PHB4 controllers
and its PCI busses. The model doesn't emulate the EEH error handling.
This model is not ready for hotplug yet.

This commit make use of the resettable API to reset the device being
hotplugged when it is realized. Also it ensures it is put in a reset
state coherent with the parent it is plugged into.
Note that there is a difference in the reset. Instead of resetting
only the hotplugged device, we reset also its subtree (switch to
resettable API). This is not expected to be a problem because
sub-buses are just realized too. If a hotplugged device has any
sub-buses it is logical to reset them too at this point.
The recently added should_be_hidden and PCI's partially_hotplugged
mechanisms do not interfere with realize operation:
+ In the should_be_hidden use case, device creation is
delayed.
+ The partially_hotplugged mechanism prevents a device to be
unplugged and unrealized from qdev POV and unrealized.

Add a function resettable_change_parent() to do the required
plumbing when changing the parent a of Resettable object.
We need to make sure that the reset state of the object remains
coherent with the reset state of the new parent.
We make the 2 following hypothesis:
+ when an object is put in a parent under reset, the object goes in
reset.
+ when an object is removed from a parent under reset, the object
leaves reset.
The added function avoids any glitch if both old and new parent are
already in reset.

This commit adds support of Resettable interface to buses and devices:
+ ResettableState structure is added in the Bus/Device state
+ Resettable methods are implemented.
+ device/bus_is_in_reset function defined
This commit allows to transition the objects to the new
multi-phase interface without changing the reset behavior at all.
Object single reset method can be split into the 3 different phases
but the 3 phases are still executed in a row for a given object.
From the qdev/qbus reset api point of view, nothing is changed.
qdev_reset_all() and qbus_reset_all() are not modified as well as
device_legacy_reset().
Transition of an object must be done from parent class to child class.
Care has been taken to allow the transition of a parent class
without requiring the child classes to be transitioned at the same
time. Note that SysBus and SysBusDevice class do not need any transition
because they do not override the legacy reset method.

This commit defines an interface allowing multi-phase reset. This aims
to solve a problem of the actual single-phase reset (built in
DeviceClass and BusClass): reset behavior is dependent on the order
in which reset handlers are called. In particular doing external
side-effect (like setting an qemu_irq) is problematic because receiving
object may not be reset yet.
The Resettable interface divides the reset in 3 well defined phases.
To reset an object tree, all 1st phases are executed then all 2nd then
all 3rd. See the comments in include/hw/resettable.h for a more complete
description. The interface defines 3 phases to let the future
possibility of holding an object into reset for some time.
The qdev/qbus reset in DeviceClass and BusClass will be modified in
following commits to use this interface. A mechanism is provided
to allow executing a transitional reset handler in place of the 2nd
phase which is executed in children-then-parent order inside a tree.
This will allow to transition devices and buses smoothly while
keeping the exact current qdev/qbus reset behavior for now.
Documentation will be added in a following commit.

All occurrence of device_reset in the code tree are also replaced

The overhead for the OpenBMC firmware images using the a custom U-Boot
is around 2 seconds, which is fine, but with a U-Boot from mainline,
it takes an extra 50 seconds or so to reach Linux. A quick survey on
the number of reads performed on the flash memory region gives the
following figures :
OpenBMC U-Boot 922478 (~ 3.5 MBytes)
Mainline U-Boot 20569977 (~ 80 MBytes)
QEMU must be trashing the TCG TBs and reloading text very often. Some
addresses are read more than 250.000 times. Until we find a solution
to improve boot time, execution from MMIO is not activated by default.

While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to
detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch,
this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of
the executable in question. The change expands functionality of
the following functions:
- load_elf()
- load_elf_as()
- load_elf_ram()
- load_elf_ram_sym()
The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of
type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word'
being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit
variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that
argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will
happen, and no information will be returned, of course.
