b8e999673b ppc: move '-cpu foo,compat=xxx' parsing into ppc_cpu_parse_featurestr()
there is a dedicated callback CPUClass::parse_features
which purpose is to convert -cpu features into a set of
global properties AND deal with compat/legacy features
that couldn't be directly translated into CPU's properties.

Create ppc variant of it (ppc_cpu_parse_featurestr) and
move 'compat=val' handling from spapr_cpu_core.c into it.
That removes a dependency of board/core code on cpu_model
parsing and would let to reuse common -cpu parsing
introduced by 6063d4c0

Set "max-cpu-compat" property only if it exists, in practice
it should limit 'compat' hack to spapr machine and allow
to avoid including machine/spapr headers in target/ppc/cpu.c

1ed9c8af50 target/ppc: Add POWER9 DD2.0 model information
At the moment the only POWER9 model which is listed in qemu is v1.0 (aka
"DD1"). This is a very early (read, buggy) version which will never be
released to the public - it was included in qemu only for the convenience
of those doing bringup on the early silicon. For bonus points, we actually
had its PVR incorrect in the table (0x004e0000 instead of 0x004e0100). We
also never actually implemented the differences in behaviour (read, bugs)
that marked DD1 in qemu.

Now that we know the PVR for the substantially better v2.0 (DD2) chip,
include it and make it the default POWER9 in qemu. For the time being we
leave the DD1 definition in place for the poor souls (read, me) who still
need to work with DD1 hardware.

44b1ff319c migration: pre_save return int
Modify the pre_save method on VMStateDescription to return an int
rather than void so that it potentially can fail.

Changed zillions of devices to make them return 0; the only
case I've made it return non-0 is hw/intc/s390_flic_kvm.c that already
had an error_report/return case.

Note: If you add an error exit in your pre_save you must emit
an error_report to say why.

1ec26c757d spapr: fix the value of SDR1 in kvmppc_put_books_sregs()
When running with KVM PR, if a new HPT is allocated we need to inform
KVM about the HPT address and size. This is currently done by hacking
the value of SDR1 and pushing it to KVM in several places.

Also, migration breaks the guest since it is very unlikely the HPT has
the same address in source and destination, but we push the incoming
value of SDR1 to KVM anyway.

This patch introduces a new virtual hypervisor hook so that the spapr
code can provide the correct value of SDR1 to be pushed to KVM each
time kvmppc_put_books_sregs() is called.

It allows to get rid of all the hacking in the spapr/kvmppc code and
it fixes migration of nested KVM PR.

14b0d74887 ppc/kvm: generalize the use of kvmppc_get_htab_fd()
The use of KVM_PPC_GET_HTAB_FD is open-coded in kvmppc_read_hptes()
and kvmppc_write_hpte().

This patch modifies kvmppc_get_htab_fd() so that it can be used
everywhere we need to access the in-kernel htab:
- add an index argument
  => only kvmppc_read_hptes() passes an actual index, all other users
     pass 0
- add an errp argument to propagate error messages to the caller.
  => spapr migration code prints the error
  => hpte helpers pass &error_abort to keep the current behavior
     of hw_error()

While here, this also fixes a bug in kvmppc_write_hpte() so that it
opens the htab fd for writing instead of reading as it currently does.
This never broke anything because we currently never call this code,
as explained in the changelog of commit c138593380:

"This support updating htab managed by the hypervisor. Currently
 we don't have any user for this feature. This actually bring the
 store_hpte interface in-line with the load_hpte one. We may want
 to use this when we want to emulate henter hcall in qemu for HV
 kvm."

The above is still true today.

82be8e7394 ppc/kvm: change kvmppc_get_htab_fd() to return -errno on error
When kvmppc_get_htab_fd() fails, its return value is propagated up to
qemu_savevm_state_iterate() or to qemu_savevm_state_complete_precopy().
All savevm handlers expect to receive a negative errno on error.

Let's patch kvmppc_get_htab_fd() accordingly.

While here, let's change htab_load() in the spapr code to also
propagate the error, since it doesn't make sense to abort() if
we couldn't get the htab fd from KVM.

6977afda16 ppc/kvm: check some capabilities with kvm_vm_check_extension()
The following capabilities are VM specific:
- KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT_POSSIBLE
- KVM_CAP_PPC_HTAB_FD
- KVM_CAP_PPC_ALLOC_HTAB

If both KVM HV and KVM PR are present, checking them always return
the HV value, even if we explicitely requested to use PR.

This has no visible effect for KVM_CAP_PPC_ALLOC_HTAB, because we also
try the KVM_PPC_ALLOCATE_HTAB ioctl which is only suppored by HV. As
a consequence, the spapr code doesn't even check KVM_CAP_PPC_HTAB_FD.

However, this will cause kvmppc_hint_smt_possible(), introduced by
commit fa98fbfcdf, to report several VSMT modes (eg, Available
VSMT modes: 8 4 2 1) whereas PR only support mode 1.

This patch fixes all three anyway to use kvm_vm_check_extension(). It
is okay since the VM is already created at the time kvm_arch_init() or
kvmppc_reset_htab() is called.

Indentation fixed up manually afterwards.

Some of the lines were manually edited to reduce the line length to below
80 charecters. Some of the lines with newlines in the middle of the
string were also manually edit to avoid checkpatch errrors.

The #include lines were manually updated to allow the code to compile.

70a0c19e83 ppc/kvm: use kvm_vm_check_extension() in kvmppc_is_pr()
If the host has both KVM PR and KVM HV loaded and we pass:

	-machine pseries,accel=kvm,kvm-type=PR

the kvmppc_is_pr() returns false instead of true. Since the helper
is mostly used as fallback, it doesn't have any real impact with
recent kernels. A notable exception is the workaround to allow
migration between compatible hosts with different PVRs (eg, POWER8
and POWER8E), since KVM still doesn't provide a way to check if a
specific PVR is supported (see commit c363a37a45 for details).

According to the official KVM API documentation [1], KVM_PPC_GET_PVINFO
is "vm ioctl", but we check it as a global ioctl. The following function
in KVM is hence called with kvm == NULL and considers we're in HV mode.

int kvm_vm_ioctl_check_extension(struct kvm *kvm, long ext)
{
	int r;
	/* Assume we're using HV mode when the HV module is loaded */
	int hv_enabled = kvmppc_hv_ops ? 1 : 0;

	if (kvm) {
		/*
		 * Hooray - we know which VM type we're running on. Depend on
		 * that rather than the guess above.
		 */
		hv_enabled = is_kvmppc_hv_enabled(kvm);
	}

Let's use kvm_vm_check_extension() to fix the issue.

Caching there practically doesn't give any benefits

c5354f54aa ppc: make cpu_model translation to type consistent
PPC handles -cpu FOO rather incosistently,
i.e. it does case-insensitive matching of FOO to
a CPU type (see: ppc_cpu_compare_class_name) but
handles alias names as case-sensitive, as result:

 # qemu-system-ppc64 -M mac99 -cpu g3
 qemu-system-ppc64: unable to find CPU model ' kNU'

 # qemu-system-ppc64 -cpu 970MP_V1.1
 qemu-system-ppc64: Unable to find sPAPR CPU Core definition

while

 # qemu-system-ppc64 -M mac99 -cpu G3
 # qemu-system-ppc64 -cpu 970MP_v1.1

start up just fine.

Considering we can't take case-insensitive matching away,
make it case-insensitive for all alias/type/core_type
lookups.

As side effect it allows to remove duplicate core types
which are the same except of using different cased letters in name.

fa98fbfcdf PPC: KVM: Support machine option to set VSMT mode
KVM now allows writing to KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT which has previously been
read only. Doing so causes KVM to act, for that VM, as if the host's
SMT mode was the given value. This is particularly important on Power
9 systems because their default value is 1, but they are able to
support values up to 8.

This patch introduces a way to control this capability via a new
machine property called VSMT ("Virtual SMT"). If the value is not set
on the command line a default is chosen that is, when possible,
compatible with legacy systems.

Note that the intialization of KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT has changed slightly
because it has changed (in KVM) from a global capability to a
VM-specific one. This won't cause a problem on older KVMs because VM
capabilities fall back to global ones.

5dfaa532e0 ppc: fix ppc_set_compat() with KVM PR
When running in KVM PR mode, kvmppc_set_compat() always fail because the
current PR implementation doesn't handle KVM_REG_PPC_ARCH_COMPAT. Now that
the machine code inconditionally calls ppc_set_compat_all() at reset time
to restore the compat mode default value (commit 66d5c492dd), it is
impossible to start a guest with PR:

qemu-system-ppc64: Unable to set CPU compatibility mode in KVM:
 Invalid argument

A tentative patch [1] was recently sent by Suraj to address the issue, but
it would prevent the compat mode to be turned off on reset. And we really
don't want to explicitely check for KVM PR. During the patch's review,
David suggested that we should only call the KVM ioctl() if the compat
PVR changes. This allows at least to run with KVM PR, provided no compat
mode is requested from the command line (which should be the case when
running PR nested). This is what this patch does.

While here, we also fix the side effect where KVM would fail but we would
change the CPU state in QEMU anyway.

c363a37a45 target/ppc: 'PVR != host PVR' in KVM_SET_SREGS workaround
Commit d5fc133eed ("ppc: Rework CPU compatibility testing
across migration") changed the way cpu_post_load behaves with
the PVR setting, causing an unexpected bug in KVM-HV migrations
between hosts that are compatible (POWER8 and POWER8E, for example).
Even with pvr_match() returning true, the guest freezes right after
cpu_post_load. The reason is that the guest kernel can't handle a
different PVR value other that the running host in KVM_SET_SREGS.

In [1] it was discussed the possibility of a new KVM capability
that would indicate that the guest kernel can handle a different
PVR in KVM_SET_SREGS. Even if such feature is implemented, there is
still the problem with older kernels that will not have this capability
and will fail to migrate.

This patch implements a workaround for that scenario. If running
with KVM, check if the guest kernel does not have the capability
(named here as 'cap_ppc_pvr_compat'). If it doesn't, calls
kvmppc_is_pr() to see if the guest is running in KVM-HV. If all this
happens, set env->spr[SPR_PVR] to the same value as the current
host PVR. This ensures that we allow migrations with 'close enough'
PVRs to still work in KVM-HV but also makes the code ready for
this new KVM capability when it is done.

A new function called 'kvmppc_pvr_workaround_required' was created
to encapsulate the conditions said above and to avoid calling too
many kvm.c internals inside cpu_post_load.

b8af5b2d5f target/ppc: Add stub implementation of the PSSCR
The PSSCR register added in POWER9 controls certain power saving mode
behaviours. Mostly, it's not relevant to TCG, however because qemu
doesn't know about it yet, it doesn't synchronize the state with KVM,
and thus it doesn't get migrated.

To fix that, this adds a minimal stub implementation of the register.
This isn't complete, even to the extent that an implementation is
possible in TCG, just enough to get migration working. We need to
come back later and at least properly filter the various fields in the
register based on privilege level.

b55d295e3e pseries: Allow HPT resizing with KVM
So far, qemu implements the PAPR Hash Page Table (HPT) resizing extension
with TCG. The same implementation will work with KVM PR, but we don't
currently allow that. For KVM HV we can only implement resizing with the
assistance of the host kernel, which needs a new capability and ioctl()s.

This patch adds support for testing the new KVM capability and implementing
the resize in terms of KVM facilities when necessary. If we're running on
a kernel which doesn't have the new capability flag at all, we fall back to
testing for PR vs. HV KVM using the same hack that we already use in a

0b0b831016 pseries: Implement HPT resizing
This patch implements hypercalls allowing a PAPR guest to resize its own
hash page table. This will eventually allow for more flexible memory
hotplug.

The implementation is partially asynchronous, handled in a special thread
running the hpt_prepare_thread() function. The state of a pending resize
is stored in SPAPR_MACHINE->pending_hpt.

The H_RESIZE_HPT_PREPARE hypercall will kick off creation of a new HPT, or,
if one is already in progress, monitor it for completion. If there is an
existing HPT resize in progress that doesn't match the size specified in
the call, it will cancel it, replacing it with a new one matching the
given size.

The H_RESIZE_HPT_COMMIT completes transition to a resized HPT, and can only
be called successfully once H_RESIZE_HPT_PREPARE has successfully
completed initialization of a new HPT. The guest must ensure that there
are no concurrent accesses to the existing HPT while this is called (this
effectively means stop_machine() for Linux guests).

For now H_RESIZE_HPT_COMMIT goes through the whole old HPT, rehashing each
HPTE into the new HPT. This can have quite high latency, but it seems to
be of the order of typical migration downtime latencies for HPTs of size
up to ~2GiB (which would be used in a 256GiB guest).

In future we probably want to move more of the rehashing to the "prepare"
phase, by having H_ENTER and other hcalls update both current and
pending HPTs. That's a project for another day, but should be possible
without any changes to the guest interface.

30f4b05bd0 pseries: Stubs for HPT resizing

also adds a new machine property for controlling whether this new

For now we only allow resizing with TCG, allowing it with KVM will require
kernel changes as well.

Finally, it adds a new string to the hypertas property in the device
tree, advertising to the guest the availability of the HPT resizing
hypercalls. This is a tentative suggested value, and would need to be
standardized by PAPR before being merged.

92e926e1e3 ppc/kvm: have the "family" CPU alias to point to TYPE_HOST_POWERPC_CPU
When running KVM on POWER, we allow the user to pass "-cpu POWERx" instead
of "-cpu host". This is achieved by patching the ppc_cpu_aliases[] array
so that "POWERx" points to the CPU class with the same PVR as the host CPU.
This causes CPUs to be instantiated from this CPU class instead of the
TYPE_HOST_POWERPC_CPU class which is used with "-cpu host". These CPUs thus
miss all the KVM specific tuning from kvmppc_host_cpu_class_init().

This currently causes QEMU with "-cpu POWER9" to fail when running KVM on a
POWER9 DD1 host:

35068bd15e target/ppc: Fix return value in tcg radix mmu fault handler
The mmu fault handler should return 0 if it was able to successfully
handle the fault and a positive value otherwise.

Currently the tcg radix mmu fault handler will return 1 after

so fix it so that it returns 0 in this case.

The handler already correctly returns 0 when a fault was handled

d5fc133eed ppc: Rework CPU compatibility testing across migration
Migrating between different CPU versions is a bit complicated for ppc.
A long time ago, we ensured identical CPU versions at either end by
checking the PVR had the same value. However, this breaks under KVM
HV, because we always have to use the host's PVR - it's not
virtualized. That would mean we couldn't migrate between hosts with
different PVRs, even if the CPUs are close enough to compatible in
practice (sometimes identical cores with different surrounding logic
have different PVRs, so this happens in practice quite often).

So, we removed the PVR check, but instead checked that several flags
indicating supported instructions matched. This turns out to be a bad
idea, because those instruction masks are not architected information, but
essentially a TCG implementation detail. So changes to qemu internal CPU
modelling can break migration - this happened between qemu-2.6 and
qemu-2.7. That was addressed by 146c11f1 "target-ppc: Allow eventual
removal of old migration mistakes".

Now, verification of CPU compatibility across a migration basically doesn't
happen. We simply ignore the PVR of the incoming migration, and hope the
cpu on the destination is close enough to work.

Now that we've cleaned up handling of processor compatibility modes
for pseries machine type, we can do better. For new machine types
(pseries-2.10+) We allow migration if:

    * The source and destination PVRs are for the same type of CPU, as
      determined by CPU class's pvr_match function
OR * When the source was in a compatibility mode, and the destination CPU
      supports the same compatibility mode

For older machine types we retain the existing behaviour - current CAS
code will usually set a compat mode which would break backwards
migration if we made them use the new behaviour. [Fixed from an
earlier version by Greg Kurz].

7843c0d60d pseries: Move CPU compatibility property to machine
Server class POWER CPUs have a "compat" property, which is used to set the
backwards compatibility mode for the processor. However, this only makes
sense for machine types which don't give the guest access to hypervisor
privilege - otherwise the compatibility level is under the guest's control.

To reflect this, this removes the CPU 'compat' property and instead
creates a 'max-cpu-compat' property on the pseries machine. Strictly
speaking this breaks compatibility, but AFAIK the 'compat' option was
never (directly) used with -device or device_add.

The option was used with -cpu. So, to maintain compatibility, this
patch adds a hack to the cpu option parsing to strip out any compat
options supplied with -cpu and set them on the machine property
instead of the now deprecated cpu property.

5f3066d8b1 target/ppc: Allow workarounds for POWER9 DD1
POWER9 DD1 silicon has some bugs which mean it a) isn't really compliant
with the ISA v3.00 and b) require a number of special workarounds in the
kernel.

At the moment, qemu isn't aware of DD1. For TCG we don't really want it to
be (why bother emulating buggy silicon). But with KVM, the guest does need
to be aware of DD1 so it can apply the necessary workarounds.

Meanwhile, the feature negotiation between qemu and the guest strongly
favours architected compatibility modes to "raw" CPU modes. In combination
with the above, this means the guest sees architected POWER9 mode, and
doesn't apply the DD1 workarounds. Well, unless it has yet another
workaround to partially ignore what qemu tells it.

This patch addresses this by disabling support for compatibility modes when
using KVM on a POWER9 DD1 host.

d5fee0bbe6 target/ppc: Implement ISA V3.00 radix page fault handler
ISA V3.00 introduced a new radix mmu model. Implement the page fault
handler for this so we can run a tcg guest in radix mode and perform
address translation correctly.

In real mode (mmu turned off) addresses are masked to remove the top
4 bits and then are subject to partition scoped translation, since we only
support pseries at this stage it is only necessary to perform the masking
and then we're done.

In virtual mode (mmu turned on) address translation if performed as
follows:

1. Use the quadrant to determine the fully qualified address.

The fully qualified address is defined as the combination of the effective
address, the effective logical partition id (LPID) and the effective
process id (PID). Based on the quadrant (EA63:62) we set the pid and lpid
like so:

quadrant 0: lpid = LPIDR, pid = PIDR
quadrant 1: HV only (not allowed in pseries)
quadrant 2: HV only (not allowed in pseries)
quadrant 3: lpid = LPIDR, pid = 0

If we can't get the fully qualified address we raise a segment interrupt.

2. Find the guest radix tree

We ask the virtual hypervisor for the partition table which was registered
with H_REGISTER_PROC_TBL which points us to the process table in guest
memory. We then index this table by pid to get the process table entry
which points us to the appropriate radix tree to translate the address.

If the process table isn't big enough to contain an entry for the current
pid then we raise a storage interrupt.

3. Walk the radix tree

Next we walk the radix tree where each level is a table of page directory
entries indexed by some number of bits from the effective address, where
the number of bits is determined by the table size. We continue to walk
the tree (while entries are valid and the table is of minimum size) until
we reach a table of page table entries, indicated by having the leaf bit
set. The appropriate pte is then checked for sufficient access permissions,
the reference and change bits are updated and the real address is
calculated from the real page number bits of the pte and the low bits of
the effective address.

If we can't find an entry or can't access the entry bacause of permissions
then we raise a storage interrupt.

In ISAv3.00 (POWER9) more fields were added to the tblie[l] instructions

Add a new GEN_HANDLER for the ISAv3 instructions with the correct invalid

ad5d1add86 ppc/xics: introduce an 'intc' backlink under PowerPCCPU
Today, the ICPState array of the sPAPR machine is indexed with
'cpu_index' of the CPUState. This numbering of CPUs is internal to
QEMU and the guest only knows about what is exposed in the device
tree, that is the 'cpu_dt_id'. This is why sPAPR uses the helper
xics_get_cpu_index_by_dt_id() to do the mapping in a couple of places.

To provide a more generic XICS layer, we need to abstract the IRQ
'server' number and remove any assumption made on its nature. It
should not be used as a 'cpu_index' for lookups like xics_cpu_setup()
and xics_cpu_destroy() do.

To reach that goal, we choose to introduce a generic 'intc' backlink
under PowerPCCPU, and let the machine core init routine do the
ICPState lookup. The resulting object is passed on to xics_cpu_setup()
which does the store under PowerPCCPU. The IRQ 'server' number in XICS
is now generic. sPAPR uses 'cpu_dt_id' and PowerNV will use 'PIR'
number.

This also has the benefit of simplifying the sPAPR hcall routines
which do not need to do any ICPState lookups anymore.

f3d9f303ac target/ppc: Improve accuracy of guest HTM availability on P8s
On Power8 hosts it is currently theoretically possible for QEMU/KVM-HV guests
to receive a ibm,pa-features property indicating that HTM support is available
when it is not. The situation would occur if the platform firmware of
a Power8 host cleared the HTM bit of the ibm,pa-features property.
QEMU would query KVM for the availability of HTM, which will return no
support, but workaround code in kvm_arch_init_vcpu() would then
re-enable it because KVM_HV is in use and the processor is P8.

This patch adjusts the workaround in kvm_arch_init_vcpu() so that it does not
enable HTM (in the above case) unless the host kernel indicates to the QEMU
process, via the auxiliary vector, that userspace can use HTM (via the HWCAP2
bit KVM_FEATURE2_HTM).

The reason to use the value from the auxiliary vector is that it is
set based only on what the host kernel found in the ibm,pa-features
HTM bit at boot time.

40fda982f2 ppc: remove cannot_destroy_with_object_finalize_yet
This removes the assert(kvm_enabled()) from kvmppc_host_cpu_initfn()

This assert can never be triggered as the function is only registered
when KVM is available (see also 4c315c2
"qdev: Protect device-list-properties against broken devices").

So we can remove the cannot_destroy_with_object_finalize_yet from
kvmppc_host_cpu_class_init() without fear and beyond reproach.
(as it has already be done for i386 with 771a13e "i386: Unset
cannot_destroy_with_object_finalize_yet on "host" model" and
e435601 "target-i386: Remove assert(kvm_enabled()) from
host_x86_cpu_initfn()")

38a61d3487 target/ppc: fix cpu_ov setting for 32-bit
A bug was introduced in following commit:

    dc0ad84 target/ppc: update overflow flags for add/sub

As for 32-bit ppc target extracting bit 63 for overflow is not correct.
Made it dependent on TARGET_LOG_BITS. This had broken booting MacOS
9.2.1 image

17783ac828 ppc patch queuye for 2017-03-03
This will probably be my last pull request before the hard freeze. It
 has some new work, but that has all been posted in draft before the
 soft freeze, so I think it's reasonable to include in qemu-2.9.

 This batch has:
     * A substantial amount of POWER9 work
         * Implements the legacy (hash) MMU for POWER9
 	* Some more preliminaries for implementing the POWER9 radix
           MMU
 	* POWER9 has_work
 	* Basic POWER9 compatibility mode handling
 	* Removal of some premature tests
     * Some cleanups and fixes to the existing MMU code to make the
       POWER9 work simpler
     * A bugfix for TCG multiply adds on power
     * Allow pseries guests to access PCIe extended config space

 This also includes a code-motion not strictly in ppc code - moving
 getrampagesize() from ppc code to exec.c. This will make some future
 VFIO improvements easier, Paolo said it was ok to merge via my tree.
