27d5caec4f ppc: Simplify reverse dependencies of POWERNV and PSERIES on XICS and XIVE
Have PSERIES to select XICS and XIVE, and directly check PSERIES
in hw/intc/meson.build to enable build of the XICS and XIVE sPAPR
backends, like POWERNV already does. This allows to get rid of the
intermediate XICS_SPAPR and XIVE_SPAPR.

b040e591c5 ppc: Fix build with --without-default-devices
Linking of the qemu-system-ppc64 fails on a POWER9 host when
--without-default-devices is passed to configure:

$ ./configure --without-default-devices \
              --target-list=ppc64-softmmu && make

...

libqemu-ppc64-softmmu.fa.p/hw_ppc_e500.c.o: In function `ppce500_init_mpic_kvm':
/home/greg/Work/qemu/qemu-ppc/build/../hw/ppc/e500.c:777: undefined reference to `kvm_openpic_connect_vcpu'
libqemu-ppc64-softmmu.fa.p/hw_ppc_spapr_irq.c.o: In function `spapr_irq_check':

/home/greg/Work/qemu/qemu-ppc/build/../hw/intc/spapr_xive.c:530: undefined reference to `kvmppc_xive_post_load'

... and tons of other symbols belonging to the KVM backend of the
openpic, XICS and XIVE interrupt controllers.

It turns out that OPENPIC_KVM, XICS_KVM and XIVE_KVM are marked
to depend on KVM but this has no effect when minikconf runs in
allnoconfig mode. Such reverse dependencies should rather be
handled with a 'select' statement, eg.

config OPENPIC
    select OPENPIC_KVM if KVM

or even better by getting rid of the intermediate _KVM config
and directly checking CONFIG_KVM in the meson.build file:

specific_ss.add(when: ['CONFIG_KVM', 'CONFIG_OPENPIC'],
		if_true: files('openpic_kvm.c'))

Go for the latter with OPENPIC, XICS and XIVE.

This went unnoticed so far because CI doesn't test the build with
--without-default-devices and KVM enabled on a POWER host.

34d0831f38 ppc: Convert PPC UIC to a QOM device
Currently the PPC UIC ("Universal Interrupt Controller") is implemented
as a non-QOM device in ppc4xx_devs.c. Convert it to a proper QOM device
in hw/intc.

The ppcuic_init() function is retained for the moment with its current
interface; in subsequent commits this will be tidied up to avoid the
allocation of an irq array.

This conversion adds VMState support.

It leaves the LOG_UIC() macro as-is to maximise the extent to which
this is simply code-movement rather than a rewrite (in new code it
would be better to use tracepoints).

The default property values for dcr-base and use-vectors are set to
match those use by most of our boards with a UIC.

3ddba9a9e9 migration: Replace migration's JSON writer by the general one
Commit 8118f0950f "migration: Append JSON description of migration
stream" needs a JSON writer. The existing qobject_to_json() wasn't a
good fit, because it requires building a QObject to convert. Instead,
migration got its very own JSON writer, in commit 190c882ce2 "QJSON:
Add JSON writer". It tacitly limits numbers to int64_t, and strings
contents to characters that don't need escaping, unlike
qobject_to_json().

The previous commit factored the JSON writer out of qobject_to_json().
Replace migration's JSON writer by it.

cd2528de2c target/nios2: Move IIC code into CPU object proper
The Nios2 architecture supports two different interrupt controller
options:

 * The IIC (Internal Interrupt Controller) is part of the CPU itself;
   it has 32 IRQ input lines and no NMI support. Interrupt status is
   queried and controlled via the CPU's ipending and istatus
   registers.

 * The EIC (External Interrupt Controller) interface allows the CPU
   to connect to an external interrupt controller. The interface
   allows the interrupt controller to present a packet of information
   containing:
    - handler address
    - interrupt level
    - register set
    - NMI mode

QEMU does not model an EIC currently. We do model the IIC, but its
implementation is split across code in hw/nios2/cpu_pic.c and
hw/intc/nios2_iic.c. The code in those two files has no state of its
own -- the IIC state is in the Nios2CPU state struct.

Because CPU objects now inherit (indirectly) from TYPE_DEVICE, they
can have GPIO input lines themselves, so we can implement the IIC
directly in the CPU object the same way that real hardware does.

Create named "IRQ" GPIO inputs to the Nios2 CPU object, and make the
only user of the IIC wire up directly to those instead.

Note that the old code had an "NMI" concept which was entirely unused
and also as far as I can see not architecturally correct, since only
the EIC has a concept of an NMI.

This fixes a Coverity-reported trivial memory leak of the IRQ array
allocated in nios2_cpu_pic_init().

Fixes: Coverity CID 1421916

6ba430b58a hw/intc/armv7m_nvic: Implement read/write for RAS register block
The RAS feature has a block of memory-mapped registers at offset
0x5000 within the PPB. For a "minimal RAS" implementation we provide
no error records and so the only registers that exist in the block
are ERRIIDR and ERRDEVID.

The "RAZ/WI for privileged, BusFault for nonprivileged" behaviour
of the "nvic-default" region is actually valid for minimal-RAS,
so the main benefit of providing an explicit implementation of
the register block is more accurate LOG_UNIMP messages, and a
framework for where we could add a real RAS implementation later
if necessary.

194cde6df2 hw/intc/armv7m_nvic: Fix "return from inactive handler" check
In commit 077d744910 we added code to handle the v8M
requirement that returns from NMI or HardFault forcibly deactivate
those exceptions regardless of what interrupt the guest is trying to
deactivate. Unfortunately this broke the handling of the "illegal
exception return because the returning exception number is not
active" check for those cases. In the pseudocode this test is done
on the exception the guest asks to return from, but because our
implementation was doing this in armv7m_nvic_complete_irq() after the
new "deactivate NMI/HardFault regardless" code we ended up doing the
test on the VecInfo for that exception instead, which usually meant
failing to raise the illegal exception return fault.

In the case for "configurable exception targeting the opposite
security state" we detected the illegal-return case but went ahead
and deactivated the VecInfo anyway, which is wrong because that is
the VecInfo for the other security state.

Rearrange the code so that we first identify the illegal return
cases, then see if we really need to deactivate NMI or HardFault
instead, and finally do the deactivation.

a724377a11 hw/intc/armv7m_nvic: Make all of system PPB range be RAZWI/BusFault
For M-profile CPUs, the range from 0xe0000000 to 0xe00fffff is the
Private Peripheral Bus range, which includes all of the memory mapped
devices and registers that are part of the CPU itself, including the
NVIC, systick timer, and debug and trace components like the Data
Watchpoint and Trace unit (DWT). Within this large region, the range
0xe000e000 to 0xe000efff is the System Control Space (NVIC, system
registers, systick) and 0xe002e000 to 0exe002efff is its Non-secure
alias.

The architecture is clear that within the SCS unimplemented registers
should be RES0 for privileged accesses and generate BusFault for
unprivileged accesses, and we currently implement this.

It is less clear about how to handle accesses to unimplemented
regions of the wider PPB. Unprivileged accesses should definitely
cause BusFaults (R_DQQS), but the behaviour of privileged accesses is
not given as a general rule. However, the register definitions of
individual registers for components like the DWT all state that they
are RES0 if the relevant component is not implemented, so the
simplest way to provide that is to provide RAZ/WI for the whole range
for privileged accesses. (The v7M Arm ARM does say that reserved
registers should be UNK/SBZP.)

Expand the container MemoryRegion that the NVIC exposes so that
it covers the whole PPB space. This means:
 * moving the address that the ARMV7M device maps it to down by
   0xe000 bytes
 * moving the off and the offsets within the container of all the
   subregions forward by 0xe000 bytes
 * adding a new default MemoryRegion that covers the whole container
   at a lower priority than anything else and which provides the
   RAZWI/BusFault behaviour

6d24795ee7 Revert series "spapr/xive: Allocate vCPU IPIs from the vCPU contexts"
This series was largely built on the assumption that IPI numbers are
numerically equal to vCPU ids. Even if this happens to be the case
in practice with the default machine settings, this ceases to be true
if VSMT is set to a different value than the number of vCPUs per core.
This causes bogus IPI numbers to be created in KVM from a guest stand
point. This leads to unknow results in the guest, including crashes
or missing vCPUs (see BugLink) and even non-fatal oopses in current
KVM that lacks a check before accessing misconfigured HW (see [1]).

A tentative patch was sent (see [2]) but it seems too complex to be
merged in an RC. Since the original changes are essentially an
optimization, it seems safer to revert them for now. The damage is
done by commit acbdb9956f ("spapr/xive: Allocate IPIs independently
from the other sources") but the previous patches in the series are
really preparatory patches. So this reverts the whole series:

deef3d2568 intc/ibex_plic: Ensure we don't loose interrupts
If an interrupt occurs between when we claim and complete an interrupt
we currently drop the interrupt in ibex_plic_irqs_set_pending(). This
somewhat matches hardware that also ignore the interrupt between the
claim and complete process.

In the case of hardware though the physical interrupt line will still
be asserted after we have completed the interrupt. This means we will
still act on the interrupt after the complete process. In QEMU we don't
and instead we drop the interrupt as it is never recorded.

This patch changed the behaviour of the Ibex PLIC so that we save all
interrupts that occur while we are between claiming and completing an
interrupt so that we can act on them after the completition process.

This fixes interrupts being dropped when running Tock on OpenTitain in
QEMU.

c20a135a7a hw/intc/arm_gicv3_cpuif: Make GIC maintenance interrupts work
In gicv3_init_cpuif() we copy the ARMCPU gicv3_maintenance_interrupt
into the GICv3CPUState struct's maintenance_irq field. This will
only work if the board happens to have already wired up the CPU
maintenance IRQ before the GIC was realized. Unfortunately this is
not the case for the 'virt' board, and so the value that gets copied
is NULL (since a qemu_irq is really a pointer to an IRQState struct
under the hood). The effect is that the CPU interface code never
actually raises the maintenance interrupt line.

Instead, since the GICv3CPUState has a pointer to the CPUState, make
the dereference at the point where we want to raise the interrupt, to
avoid an implicit requirement on board code to wire things up in a
particular order.

M-profile CPUs only implement the ID registers as guest-visible if
the CPU implements the Main Extension (all our current CPUs except

Currently we handle this by having the Cortex-M0 leave the ID

our design decision to make QEMU behaviour be keyed off ID register

Explicitly code the ID registers in the NVIC to return 0 if the Main

ARMCPU struct fields to obtain the correct behaviour without those
values becoming guest-visible.

8a130a7be6 target/arm: Move id_pfr0, id_pfr1 into ARMISARegisters
Move the id_pfr0 and id_pfr1 fields into the ARMISARegisters
sub-struct. We're going to want id_pfr1 for an isar_features
check, and moving both at the same time avoids an odd
inconsistency.

Changes other than the ones to cpu.h and kvm64.c made
automatically with:
  perl -p -i -e 's/cpu->id_pfr/cpu->isar.id_pfr/' target/arm/*.c hw/intc/armv7m_nvic.c

d73415a315 qemu/atomic.h: rename atomic_ to qatomic_
clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type
pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a
compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file
that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file:

  $ CC=clang CXX=clang++ ./configure ... && make
  ../util/async.c:79:17: error: address argument to atomic operation must be a pointer to _Atomic type ('unsigned int *' invalid)

Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is
used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h
and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and
searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none.

This patch was generated using:

  $ git grep -h -o '\<atomic\(64\)\?_[a-z0-9_]\+' include/qemu/atomic.h | \
    sort -u >/tmp/changed_identifiers
  $ for identifier in $(</tmp/changed_identifiers); do
        sed -i "s%\<$identifier\>%q$identifier%g" \
            $(git grep -I -l "\<$identifier\>")
    done

I manually fixed line-wrap issues and misaligned rST tables.

Generated initially using:

 $ ./scripts/codeconverter/converter.py --force -i \

Then each case was manually reviewed, and a comment was added
indicating what's unusual about those type checking
macros/functions. Despite not following the usual pattern, the
changes in this patch were found to be safe.

eab0a2d06e spapr/xive: Allocate vCPU IPIs from the vCPU contexts
When QEMU switches to the XIVE interrupt mode, it creates all the
guest interrupts at the level of the KVM device. These interrupts are
backed by real HW interrupts from the IPI interrupt pool of the XIVE
controller.

Currently, this is done from the QEMU main thread, which results in
allocating all interrupts from the chip on which QEMU is running. IPIs
are not distributed across the system and the load is not well
balanced across the interrupt controllers.

Change the vCPU IPI allocation to run from the vCPU context. The
associated XIVE IPI interrupt will be allocated on the chip on which
the vCPU is running and improve distribution of the IPIs in the system.
When the vCPUs are pinned, this will make the IPI local to the chip of
the vCPU. It will reduce rerouting between interrupt controllers and
gives better performance.

Device interrupts are still treated the same. To improve placement, we
would need some information on the chip owning the virtual source or
the HW source in case of a passthrough device but this reuires
changes in PAPR.

243af0225a trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requires
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing
the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using
$(build_root)/$(<D).

In order to keep the include directives unchanged,
the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like
"trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree
such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h".

This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only
a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the
Meson rewrite of the tracing logic.

e519cdd9bc ppc/xive: Introduce dedicated kvm_irqchip_in_kernel() wrappers
Calls to the KVM XIVE device are guarded by kvm_irqchip_in_kernel(). This
ensures that QEMU won't try to use the device if KVM is disabled or if
an in-kernel irqchip isn't required.

When using ic-mode=dual with the pseries machine, we have two possible
interrupt controllers: XIVE and XICS. The kvm_irqchip_in_kernel() helper
will return true as soon as any of the KVM device is created. It might
lure QEMU to think that the other one is also around, while it is not.
This is exactly what happens with ic-mode=dual at machine init when
claiming IRQ numbers, which must be done on all possible IRQ backends,
eg. RTAS event sources or the PHB0 LSI table : only the KVM XICS device
is active but we end up calling kvmppc_xive_source_reset_one() anyway,
which fails. This doesn't cause any trouble because of another bug :
kvmppc_xive_source_reset_one() lacks an error_setg() and callers don't
see the failure.

Most of the other kvmppc_xive_* functions have similar xive->fd
checks to filter out the case when KVM XIVE isn't active. It
might look safer to have idempotent functions but it doesn't
really help to understand what's going on when debugging.

Since we already have all the kvm_irqchip_in_kernel() in place,
also have the callers to check xive->fd as well before calling
KVM XIVE specific code. This is straight-forward for the spapr
specific XIVE code. Some more care is needed for the platform
agnostic XIVE code since it cannot access xive->fd directly.
Introduce new in_kernel() methods in some base XIVE classes
for this purpose and implement them only in spapr.

In all cases, we still need to call kvm_irqchip_in_kernel() so that
compilers can optimize the kvmppc_xive_* calls away when CONFIG_KVM
isn't defined, thus avoiding the need for stubs.

cf36e5b376 ppc/xive: Rework setup of XiveSource::esb_mmio
Depending on whether XIVE is emultated or backed with a KVM XIVE device,
the ESB MMIOs of a XIVE source point to an I/O memory region or a mapped
memory region.

This is currently handled by checking kvm_irqchip_in_kernel() returns
false in xive_source_realize(). This is a bit awkward as we usually
need to do extra things when we're using the in-kernel backend, not
less. But most important, we can do better: turn the existing "xive.esb"
memory region into a plain container, introduce an "xive.esb-emulated"
I/O subregion and rename the existing "xive.esb" subregion in the KVM
code to "xive.esb-kvm". Since "xive.esb-kvm" is added with overlap
and a higher priority, it prevails over "xive.esb-emulated" (ie.
a guest using KVM XIVE will interact with "xive.esb-kvm" instead of
the default "xive.esb-emulated" region.

While here, consolidate the computation of the MMIO region size in
a common helper.

9e60d759d3 hw/intc/armv7m_nvic: Provide default "reset the system" behaviour for SYSRESETREQ
The NVIC provides an outbound qemu_irq "SYSRESETREQ" which it signals
when the guest sets the SYSRESETREQ bit in the AIRCR register. This
matches the hardware design (where the CPU has a signal of this name
and it is up to the SoC to connect that up to an actual reset
mechanism), but in QEMU it mostly results in duplicated code in SoC
objects and bugs where SoC model implementors forget to wire up the
SYSRESETREQ line.

Provide a default behaviour for the case where SYSRESETREQ is not
actually connected to anything: use qemu_system_reset_request() to
perform a system reset. This will allow us to remove the
implementations of SYSRESETREQ handling from the boards where that's
exactly what it does, and also fixes the bugs in the board models
which forgot to wire up the signal:

 * microbit
 * mps2-an385
 * mps2-an505
 * mps2-an511
 * mps2-an521
 * musca-a
 * musca-b1
 * netduino
 * netduinoplus2

We still allow the board to wire up the signal if it needs to, in case
we need to model more complicated reset controller logic or to model
buggy SoC hardware which forgot to wire up the line itself. But
defaulting to "reset the system" is more often going to be correct
than defaulting to "do nothing".

This is unsound: @err could still be read between afterwards. I don't
know how to express "no read of @err without an intervening write" in
Coccinelle. Instead, I manually double-checked for uses of @err.

Suboptimal line breaks tweaked manually. qdev_realize() simplified
further to placate scripts/checkpatch.pl.

Not exactly elegant, I'm afraid.

The "when != lbl:" is necessary to avoid transforming

         if (fun(args, &err)) {
             goto out
         }
         ...
     out:
         error_propagate(errp, err);

even though other paths to label out still need the error_propagate().
For an actual example, see sclp_realize().

Without the "when strict", Coccinelle transforms vfio_msix_setup(),
incorrectly. I don't know what exactly "when strict" does, only that
it helps here.

The match of return is narrower than what I want, but I can't figure
out how to express "return where the operand doesn't use @err". For
an example where it's too narrow, see vfio_intx_enable().

Silently fails to convert hw/arm/armsse.c, because Coccinelle gets
confused by ARMSSE being used both as typedef and function-like macro
there.  Converted manually.

Line breaks tidied up manually. One nested declaration of @local_err
deleted manually. Preexisting unwanted blank line dropped in
hw/riscv/sifive_e.c.

This is the same transformation as in the previous commit, except
sysbus_init_child_obj() and realize are too separated for the commit's
Coccinelle script to handle, typically because sysbus_init_child_obj()
is in a device's instance_init() method, and the matching realize is
in its realize() method.

Perhaps a Coccinelle wizard could make it transform that pattern, but
I'm just a bungler, and the best I can do is transforming the two
separate parts separately:

I'm converting from qdev_set_parent_bus()/realize to qdev_realize();

All users of object_initialize_child() pass the obvious child size

c82d9d43ed KVM: Kick resamplefd for split kernel irqchip
This is majorly only for X86 because that's the only one that supports
split irqchip for now.

When the irqchip is split, we face a dilemma that KVM irqfd will be
enabled, however the slow irqchip is still running in the userspace.
It means that the resamplefd in the kernel irqfds won't take any
effect and it will miss to ack INTx interrupts on EOIs.

One example is split irqchip with VFIO INTx, which will break if we
use the VFIO INTx fast path.

This patch can potentially supports the VFIO fast path again for INTx,
that the IRQ delivery will still use the fast path, while we don't
need to trap MMIOs in QEMU for the device to emulate the EIOs (see the
callers of vfio_eoi() hook). However the EOI of the INTx will still
need to be done from the userspace by caching all the resamplefds in
QEMU and kick properly for IOAPIC EOI broadcast.

This is tricky because in this case the userspace ioapic irr &
remote-irr will be bypassed. However such a change will greatly boost
performance for assigned devices using INTx irqs (TCP_RR boosts 46%
after this patch applied).

When the userspace is responsible for the resamplefd kickup, don't
register it on the kvm_irqfd anymore, because on newer kernels (after
commit 654f1f13ea56, 5.2+) the KVM_IRQFD will fail if with both split
irqchip and resamplefd. This will make sure that the fast path will
work for all supported kernels.

b69c3c21a5 qdev: Unrealize must not fail
Devices may have component devices and buses.

Device realization may fail. Realization is recursive: a device's
realize() method realizes its components, and device_set_realized()
realizes its buses (which should in turn realize the devices on that
bus, except bus_set_realized() doesn't implement that, yet).

When realization of a component or bus fails, we need to roll back:
unrealize everything we realized so far. If any of these unrealizes
failed, the device would be left in an inconsistent state. Must not
happen.

device_set_realized() lets it happen: it ignores errors in the roll
back code starting at label child_realize_fail.

Since realization is recursive, unrealization must be recursive, too.
But how could a partly failed unrealize be rolled back? We'd have to
re-realize, which can fail. This design is fundamentally broken.

device_set_realized() does not roll back at all. Instead, it keeps
unrealizing, ignoring further errors.

It can screw up even for a device with no buses: if the lone
dc->unrealize() fails, it still unregisters vmstate, and calls
listeners' unrealize() callback.

bus_set_realized() does not roll back either. Instead, it stops
unrealizing.

Fortunately, no unrealize method can fail, as we'll see below.

To fix the design error, drop parameter @errp from all the unrealize
methods.

Any unrealize method that uses @errp now needs an update. This leads
us to unrealize() methods that can fail. Merely passing it to another
unrealize method cannot cause failure, though. Here are the ones that
do other things with @errp:

* virtio_serial_device_unrealize()

  Fails when qbus_set_hotplug_handler() fails, but still does all the
  other work. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
  resources completely gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
  qbus_set_hotplug_handler() can't actually fail here. Pass
  &error_abort to qbus_set_hotplug_handler() instead.

* hw/ppc/spapr_drc.c's unrealize()

  Fails when object_property_del() fails, but all the other work is
  already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
  vmstate registration gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
  object_property_del() can't actually fail here.  Pass &error_abort
  to object_property_del() instead.

* spapr_phb_unrealize()

  Fails and bails out when remove_drcs() fails, but other work is
  already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with some
  of its resources gone. Oops. remove_drcs() fails only when
  chassis_from_bus()'s object_property_get_uint() fails, and it can't
  here. Pass &error_abort to remove_drcs() instead.

Therefore, no unrealize method can fail before this patch.

device_set_realized()'s recursive unrealization via bus uses
object_property_set_bool().  Can't drop @errp there, so pass
&error_abort.

We similarly unrealize with object_property_set_bool() elsewhere,
always ignoring errors. Pass &error_abort instead.

Several unrealize methods no longer handle errors from other unrealize
methods: virtio_9p_device_unrealize(),
virtio_input_device_unrealize(), scsi_qdev_unrealize(), ...
Much of the deleted error handling looks wrong anyway.

One unrealize methods no longer ignore such errors:
usb_ehci_pci_exit().

Several realize methods no longer ignore errors when rolling back:
v9fs_device_realize_common(), pci_qdev_unrealize(),
spapr_phb_realize(), usb_qdev_realize(), vfio_ccw_realize(),
virtio_device_realize().

d2623129a7 qom: Drop parameter @errp of object_property_add() & friends
The only way object_property_add() can fail is when a property with
the same name already exists. Since our property names are all
hardcoded, failure is a programming error, and the appropriate way to
handle it is passing &error_abort.

Same for its variants, except for object_property_add_child(), which
additionally fails when the child already has a parent. Parentage is
also under program control, so this is a programming error, too.

We have a bit over 500 callers. Almost half of them pass
&error_abort, slightly fewer ignore errors, one test case handles
errors, and the remaining few callers pass them to their own callers.

The previous few commits demonstrated once again that ignoring
programming errors is a bad idea.

Of the few ones that pass on errors, several violate the Error API.
The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a
pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the
latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call.  ich9_pm_add_properties(), sparc32_ledma_realize(),
sparc32_dma_realize(), xilinx_axidma_realize(), xilinx_enet_realize()
are wrong that way.

When the one appropriate choice of argument is &error_abort, letting
users pick the argument is a bad idea.

Drop parameter @errp and assert the preconditions instead.

There's one exception to "duplicate property name is a programming
error": the way object_property_add() implements the magic (and
undocumented) "automatic arrayification". Don't drop @errp there.
Instead, rename object_property_add() to object_property_try_add(),
and add the obvious wrapper object_property_add().

8c4985298f hw/intc/armv7m_nvic: Rebuild hflags on reset
Some of an M-profile CPU's cached hflags state depends on state that's
in our NVIC object. We already do an hflags rebuild when the NVIC
registers are written, but we also need to do this on NVIC reset,
because there's no guarantee that this will happen before the
CPU reset.

This fixes an assertion due to mismatched hflags which happens if
the CPU is reset from inside a HardFault handler.

1904f9b5f1 hw/intc/arm_gic_kvm: Don't assume kernel can provide a GICv2
In our KVM GICv2 realize function, we try to cope with old kernels
that don't provide the device control API (KVM_CAP_DEVICE_CTRL): we
try to use the device control, and if that fails we fall back to
assuming that the kernel has the old style KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP and
that it will provide a GICv2.

This doesn't cater for the possibility of a kernel and hardware which
only provide a GICv3, which is very common now. On that setup we
will abort() later on in kvm_arm_pmu_set_irq() when we try to wire up
an interrupt to the GIC we failed to create:

qemu-system-aarch64: PMU: KVM_SET_DEVICE_ATTR: Invalid argument
qemu-system-aarch64: failed to set irq for PMU
Aborted

If the kernel advertises KVM_CAP_DEVICE_CTRL we should trust it if it
says it can't create a GICv2, rather than assuming it has one. We
can then produce a more helpful error message including a hint about
the most probable reason for the failure.

If the kernel doesn't advertise KVM_CAP_DEVICE_CTRL then it is truly
ancient by this point but we might as well still fall back to a
KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP GICv2.

With this patch then the user misconfiguration which previously
caused an abort now prints:
qemu-system-aarch64: Initialization of device kvm-arm-gic failed: error creating in-kernel VGIC: No such device
Perhaps the host CPU does not support GICv2?

11411489da arm_gic: Mask the un-supported priority bits
The GICv2 allows the implementation to implement a variable number
of priority bits; unimplemented bits in the priority registers
are read as zeros, writes ignored. We were previously always
implementing a full 8 bits of priority, which is allowed but not
what the real hardware typically does (which is usually to have
4 or 5 bits of priority).

Add a new device property to allow the number of implemented
property bits to be specified.

9ae1329ee2 ppc/pnv: Add models for POWER8 PHB3 PCIe Host bridge
This is a model of the PCIe Host Bridge (PHB3) found on a POWER8
processor. It includes the PowerBus logic interface (PBCQ), IOMMU
support, a single PCIe Gen.3 Root Complex, and support for MSI and LSI
interrupt sources as found on a POWER8 system using the XICS interrupt
controller.

The POWER8 processor comes in different flavors: Venice, Murano,
Naple, each having a different number of PHBs. To make things simpler,
the models provides 3 PHB3 per chip. Some platforms, like the
Firestone, can also couple PHBs on the first chip to provide more
bandwidth but this is too specific to model in QEMU.

XICS requires some adjustment to support the PHB3 MSI. The changes are
provided here but they could be decoupled in prereq patches.

If LPIs are disabled, KVM will just ignore the GICR_PENDBASER.PTZ bit when

And what's worse, PTZ is generally programmed by guest to indicate to the
Redistributor whether the LPI Pending table is zero when enabling LPIs.
If migration is triggered when the PTZ has just been cleared by guest (and
before enabling LPIs), we will see PTZ==1 on the destination side, which
is not as expected. Let's just drop this hackish userspace behavior.

Also take this chance to refine the comment a bit.

0ab994867c apic: Use 32bit APIC ID for migration instance ID
Migration is silently broken now with x2apic config like this:

     -smp 200,maxcpus=288,sockets=2,cores=72,threads=2 \
     -device intel-iommu,intremap=on,eim=on

After migration, the guest kernel could hang at anything, due to
x2apic bit not migrated correctly in IA32_APIC_BASE on some vcpus, so
any operations related to x2apic could be broken then (e.g., RDMSR on
x2apic MSRs could fail because KVM would think that the vcpu hasn't
enabled x2apic at all).

The issue is that the x2apic bit was never applied correctly for vcpus
whose ID > 255 when migrate completes, and that's because when we
migrate APIC we use the APICCommonState.id as instance ID of the
migration stream, while that's too short for x2apic.

Let's use the newly introduced initial_apic_id for that.

53981dd505 xive: Use the XIVE fabric link under the XIVE router
Now that the spapr and pnv machines do set the "xive-fabric" link, the
use of the XIVE fabric pointer becomes mandatory. This is checked with
an assert() in a new realize hook. Since the XIVE router is realized at
machine init for the all the machine's life time, no risk to abort an
already running guest (ie. not a hotplug path).

This gets rid of a qdev_get_machine() call.

d1214b819f spapr, pnv, xive: Add a "xive-fabric" link to the XIVE router
In order to get rid of qdev_get_machine(), first add a pointer to the
XIVE fabric under the XIVE router and make it configurable through a
QOM link property.

Configure it in the spapr and pnv machine. In the case of pnv, the XIVE
routers are under the chip, so this is done with a QOM alias property of

d024a2c111 ppc/xive: Move the TIMA operations to the controller model
On the P9 Processor, the thread interrupt context registers of a CPU
can be accessed "directly" when by load/store from the CPU or
"indirectly" by the IC through an indirect TIMA page. This requires to
configure first the PC_TCTXT_INDIRx registers.

Today, we rely on the get_tctx() handler to deduce from the CPU PIR
the chip from which the TIMA access is being done. By handling the
TIMA memory ops under the interrupt controller model of each machine,
we can uniformize the TIMA direct and indirect ops under PowerNV. We
can also check that the CPUs have been enabled in the XIVE controller.

This prepares ground for the future versions of XIVE.

5373c61d6a ppc/pnv: Clarify how the TIMA is accessed on a multichip system
The TIMA region gives access to the thread interrupt context registers
of a CPU. It is mapped at the same address on all chips and can be
accessed by any CPU of the system. To identify the chip from which the
access is being done, the PowerBUS uses a 'chip' field in the
load/store messages. QEMU does not model these messages, instead, we
extract the chip id from the CPU PIR and do a lookup at the machine
level to fetch the targeted interrupt controller.

Introduce pnv_get_chip() and pnv_xive_tm_get_xive() helpers to clarify
this process in pnv_xive_get_tctx(). The latter will be removed in the
subsequent patches but the same principle will be kept.

f87dae18d8 ppc/xive: Implement the XivePresenter interface
Each XIVE Router model, sPAPR and PowerNV, now implements the 'match_nvt'
handler of the XivePresenter QOM interface. This is simply moving code
and taking into account the new API.

To be noted that the xive_router_get_tctx() helper is not used anymore
when doing CAM matching and will be removed later on after other changes.

The XIVE presenter model is still too simple for the PowerNV machine
and the CAM matching algo is not correct on multichip system. Subsequent
patches will introduce more changes to scan all chips of the system.

13bee8521c ppc/xive: Introduce a XivePresenter interface
When the XIVE IVRE sub-engine (XiveRouter) looks for a Notification
Virtual Target (NVT) to notify, it broadcasts a message on the
PowerBUS to find an XIVE IVPE sub-engine (Presenter) with the NVT
dispatched on one of its HW threads, and then forwards the
notification if any response was received.

The current XIVE presenter model is sufficient for the pseries machine
because it has a single interrupt controller device, but the PowerNV
machine can have multiple chips each having its own interrupt
controller. In this case, the XIVE presenter model is too simple and
the CAM line matching should scan all chips of the system.

To start fixing this issue, we first extend the XIVE Router model with
a new XivePresenter QOM interface representing the XIVE IVPE
sub-engine. This interface exposes a 'match_nvt' handler which the
sPAPR and PowerNV XIVE Router models will need to implement to perform
the CAM line matching.

When using the XIVE KVM device, the trigger page is directly accessible

7aa22e1809 ppc/pnv: Remove pnv_xive_vst_size() routine
pnv_xive_vst_size() tries to compute the size of a VSD table from the
information given by FW. The number of entries of the table are
deduced from the result and the MMIO regions of the ESBs and the END
ESBs are then resized accordingly with the computed value. This
reduces the number of elements that can be addressed by the ESB pages.

The maximum number of elements of a direct table can contain is simply:

   Table size / sizeof(XIVE structure)

An indirect table is a one page array of VSDs pointing to subpages
containing XIVE virtual structures and the maximum number of elements
an indirect table can contain :

   (PAGE_SIZE / sizeof(vsd)) * (PAGE_SIZE / sizeof(XIVE structure))

which gives us 16M for XiveENDs, 8M for XiveNVTs. That's more than the
associated VC and PC BARS can address.

The result returned by pnv_xive_vst_size() for indirect tables is
incorrect and can not be used to reduce the size of the MMIO region of
a XIVE resource using an indirect table, such as ENDs in skiboot.

Remove pnv_xive_vst_size() and use a simpler form for direct tables
only. Keep the resizing of the MMIO region for direct tables only as
this is still useful for the ESB MMIO window.

We can fix that by hinting the constraint to the compiler with a

35886de140 xive, xics: Fix reference counting on CPU objects
When a VCPU gets connected to the XIVE interrupt controller, we add a
const link targetting the CPU object to the TCTX object. Similar links
are added to the ICP object when using the XICS interrupt controller.

As explained in <qom/object.h>:

 * The caller must ensure that @target stays alive as long as
 * this property exists. In the case @target is a child of @obj,
 * this will be the case. Otherwise, the caller is responsible for
 * taking a reference.

We're in the latter case for both XICS and XIVE. Add the missing
calls to object_ref() and object_unref().

This doesn't fix any known issue because the life cycle of the TCTX or
ICP happens to be shorter than the one of the CPU or XICS fabric, but
better safe than sorry.

0990ce6a2e ppc: Add intc_destroy() handlers to SpaprInterruptController/PnvChip
SpaprInterruptControllerClass and PnvChipClass have an intc_create() method
that calls the appropriate routine, ie. icp_create() or xive_tctx_create(),
to establish the link between the VCPU and the presenter component of the
interrupt controller during realize.

There aren't any symmetrical call to be called when the VCPU gets unrealized
though. It is assumed that object_unparent() is the only thing to do.

This is questionable because the parenting logic around the CPU and
presenter objects is really an implementation detail of the interrupt
controller. It shouldn't be open-coded in the machine code.

Fix this by adding an intc_destroy() method that undoes what was done in
intc_create(). Also NULLify the presenter pointers to avoid having
stale pointers around. This will allow to reliably check if a vCPU has
a valid presenter.

d49e8a9b46 ppc: Reset the interrupt presenter from the CPU reset handler
On the sPAPR machine and PowerNV machine, the interrupt presenters are
created by a machine handler at the core level and are reset
independently. This is not consistent and it raises issues when it
comes to handle hot-plugged CPUs. In that case, the presenters are not
reset. This is less of an issue in XICS, although a zero MFFR could
be a concern, but in XIVE, the OS CAM line is not set and this breaks
the presenting algorithm. The current code has workarounds which need
a global cleanup.

Extend the sPAPR IRQ backend and the PowerNV Chip class with a new

605994e5b7 spapr, xics, xive: Move SpaprIrq::post_load hook to backends
The remaining logic in the post_load hook really belongs to the interrupt
controller backends, and just needs to be called on the active controller
(after the active controller is set to the right thing based on the
incoming migration in the generic spapr_irq_post_load() logic).

567192d486 spapr, xics, xive: Move SpaprIrq::reset hook logic into activate/deactivate
It turns out that all the logic in the SpaprIrq::reset hooks (and some in
the SpaprIrq::post_load hooks) isn't really related to resetting the irq
backend (that's handled by the backends' own reset routines). Rather its
about getting the backend ready to be the active interrupt controller or
stopping being the active interrupt controller - reset (and post_load) is
just the only time that changes at present.

To make this flow clearer, move the logic into the explicit backend
activate and deactivate hooks.

98a39a7927 spapr, xics, xive: Match signatures for XICS and XIVE KVM connect routines
Both XICS and XIVE have routines to connect and disconnect KVM with
similar but not identical signatures. This adjusts them to match
exactly, which will be useful for further cleanups later.

While we're there, we add an explicit return value to the connect path
to streamline error reporting in the callers. We remove error
reporting the disconnect path. In the XICS case this wasn't used at
all. In the XIVE case the only error case was if the KVM device was
set up, but KVM didn't have the capability to do so which is pretty
obviously impossible.

05289273c0 spapr, xics, xive: Move dt_populate from SpaprIrq to SpaprInterruptController
This method depends only on the active irq controller. Now that we've
formalized the notion of active controller we can dispatch directly
through that, rather than dispatching via SpaprIrq with the dual
version having to do a second conditional dispatch.

0b0e52b131 spapr, xics, xive: Move irq claim and free from SpaprIrq to SpaprInterruptController
These methods, like cpu_intc_create, really belong to the interrupt
controller, but need to be called on all possible intcs.

Like cpu_intc_create, therefore, make them methods on the intc and
always call it for all existing intcs.

ebd6be089b spapr, xics, xive: Move cpu_intc_create from SpaprIrq to SpaprInterruptController
This method essentially represents code which belongs to the interrupt
controller, but needs to be called on all possible intcs, rather than
just the currently active one. The "dual" version therefore calls
into the xics and xive versions confusingly.

Handle this more directly, by making it instead a method on the intc
backend, and always calling it on every backend that exists.

While we're there, streamline the error reporting a bit.

150e25f85b spapr, xics, xive: Introduce SpaprInterruptController QOM interface
The SpaprIrq structure is used to represent ths spapr machine's irq
backend. Except that it kind of conflates two concepts: one is the
backend proper - a specific interrupt controller that we might or
might not be using, the other is the irq configuration which covers
the layout of irq space and which interrupt controllers are allowed.

This leads to some pretty confusing code paths for the "dual"
configuration where its hooks redirect to other SpaprIrq structures
depending on the currently active irq controller.

To clean this up, we start by introducing a new
SpaprInterruptController QOM interface to represent strictly an
interrupt controller backend, not counting anything configuration
related. We implement this interface in the XICs and XIVE interrupt
controllers, and in future we'll move relevant methods from SpaprIrq
into it.
