When guest CPU PM is enabled, and with -cpu host, expose the host CPU
MWAIT leaf in the CPUID so guest can make good PM decisions.
Note: the result is 100% CPU utilization reported by host as host
no longer knows that the CPU is halted.

With this flag, kvm allows guest to control host CPU power state. This
increases latency for other processes using same host CPU in an
unpredictable way, but if decreases idle entry/exit times for the
running VCPU, so to use it QEMU needs a hint about whether host CPU is
overcommitted, hence the flag name.
Follow-up patches will expose this capability to guest
(using mwait leaf).

We need to terminate the translation block after STGI so that pending
interrupts can be injected.
This fixes pending NMI injection for Jailhouse which uses "stgi; clgi"
to open a brief injection window.

Some variations of Linux kernels end up accessing MSR's that the Windows
Hypervisor doesn't implement which causes a GP to be returned to the guest.
This fix registers QEMU for unimplemented MSR access and globally returns 0 on
reads and ignores writes. This behavior is allows the Linux kernel to probe the
MSR with a write/read/check sequence it does often without failing the access.

Adds a workaround to an incorrect value setting
CPUID Fn8000_0001_ECX[bit 9 OSVW] = 1. This can cause a guest linux kernel
to panic when an issue to rdmsr C001_0140h returns 0. Disabling this feature
correctly allows the guest to boot without accessing the osv workarounds.

This patch adds the sizeof_field() macro, which is similar to

This is part of topoext support. To keep the compatibility, it is better
we support all the combination of nr_cores and nr_threads currently
supported. By allowing more nr_cores and nr_threads, we might end up with
more nodes than we can actually support with the real hardware. We need to
fix up the node id to make this work. We can achieve this by shifting the
socket_id bits left to address more nodes.

AMD future CPUs expose a mechanism to tell the guest that the
Speculative Store Bypass Disable is not needed and that the
CPU is all good.
This is exposed via the CPUID 8000_0008.EBX[26] bit.

AMD future CPUs expose _two_ ways to utilize the Intel equivalant
of the Speculative Store Bypass Disable. The first is via
the virtualized VIRT_SPEC CTRL MSR (0xC001_011f) and the second
is via the SPEC_CTRL MSR (0x48). The document titled:
124441_AMD64_SpeculativeStoreBypassDisable_Whitepaper_final.pdf
gives priority of SPEC CTRL MSR over the VIRT SPEC CTRL MSR.

OSPKE is not a static feature flag: it changes dynamically at
runtime depending on CR4, and it was never configurable: KVM
never returned OSPKE on GET_SUPPORTED_CPUID, and on TCG enables
it automatically if CR4_PKE_MASK is set.
Remove OSPKE from the feature name array so users don't try to
configure it manually.

When using '-cpu help' the list of CPUID features is grouped according
to the internal low level CPUID grouping. The data printed results in
very long lines too.
This combines to make it hard for users to read the output and identify
if QEMU knows about the feature they wish to use.
This change gets rid of the grouping of features and treats all flags as
single list. The list is sorted into alphabetical order and the printing
with line wrapping at the 77th column.

The current list of CPU model names output by "-cpu help" is sorted
alphabetically based on the internal QOM class name. The text that is
displayed, however, uses the CPU model name, which is equivalent to the
QOM class name, minus a suffix. Unfortunately that suffix has an effect
on the sort ordering, for example, causing the various Broadwell
variants to appear reversed:

Since the addition of the -IBRS CPU model variants, the descriptions
shown by '-cpu help' are not well aligned, as several model names
overflow the space allowed. Right aligning the CPU model names is also
not attractive, because it obscures the common name prefixes of many
models. The CPU model name field needs to be 4 characters larger, and
be left aligned instead.

Always initialize CPUCaches structs with cache information, even
if legacy_cache=true. Use different CPUCaches struct for

In kernel header commit 633711e8287, the define KVM_HINTS_DEDICATED
was renamed to KVM_HINTS_REALTIME. Work around this compatibility
break by (a) using the new constant name, and (b) defining it
if the headers don't.
Part (b) can be removed once we've updated our copy of the kernel
headers to a version that defines KVM_HINTS_REALTIME.

We're currently linking against import libraries of the WHP DLLs.
By dynamically loading the libraries, we ensure that QEMU will work
on previous Windows versions, where the WHP DLLs will be missing
(assuming that WHP is not requested).
Also, we're simplifying the build process, as we no longer require
the import libraries.

speculative store bypass disable (SSBD). To allow a simplified view of
this to a guest, an architectural definition has been created through a new
CPUID bit, 0x80000008_EBX[25], and a new MSR, 0xc001011f. With this, a
hypervisor can virtualize the existence of this definition and provide an
architectural method for using SSBD to a guest.

The property legacy-cache will be used to control the cache information.
If user passes "-cpu legacy-cache" then older information will
be displayed even if the hardware supports new information. Otherwise
use the statically loaded cache definitions if available.
Renamed the previous cache structures to legacy_*. If there is any change in
the cache information, then it needs to be initialized in builtin_x86_defs.

Instead of having a collection of macros that need to be used in
complex expressions to build CPUID data, define a CPUCacheInfo
struct that can hold information about a given cache. Helper
functions will take a CPUCacheInfo struct as input to encode
CPUID leaves for a cache.
This will help us ensure consistency between cache information
CPUID leaves, and make the existing inconsistencies in CPUID info
more visible.

The CLDEMOTE instruction hints to hardware that the cache line that
contains the linear address should be moved("demoted") from
the cache(s) closest to the processor core to a level more distant
from the processor core. This may accelerate subsequent accesses
to the line by other cores in the same coherence domain,
especially if the line was written by the core that demotes the line.
Intel Snow Ridge has added new cpu feature, CLDEMOTE.
The new cpu feature needs to be exposed to guest VM.

KVM recently gained support for Hyper-V Reenlightenment MSRs which are
required to make KVM-on-Hyper-V enable TSC page clocksource to its guests
when INVTSC is not passed to it (and it is not passed by default in Qemu
as it effectively blocks migration).

The assumption in the cpu->max_features code is that anything
enabled on GET_SUPPORTED_CPUID should be enabled on "-cpu host".
This shouldn't be the case for FEAT_KVM_HINTS.
This adds a new FeatureWordInfo::no_autoenable_flags field, that
can be used to prevent FEAT_KVM_HINTS bits to be enabled
automatically.

In icount mode, instructions that access io memory spaces in the middle
of the translation block invoke TB recompilation. After recompilation,
such instructions become last in the TB and are allowed to access io
memory spaces.
When the code includes instruction like i386 'xchg eax, 0xffffd080'
which accesses APIC, QEMU goes into an infinite loop of the recompilation.
This instruction includes two memory accesses - one read and one write.
After the first access, APIC calls cpu_report_tpr_access, which restores
the CPU state to get the current eip. But cpu_restore_state_from_tb
resets the cpu->can_do_io flag which makes the second memory access invalid.
Therefore the second memory access causes a recompilation of the block.
Then these operations repeat again and again.
This patch moves resetting cpu->can_do_io flag from
cpu_restore_state_from_tb to cpu_loop_exit* functions.
It also adds a parameter for cpu_restore_state which controls restoring
icount. There is no need to restore icount when we only query CPU state
without breaking the TB. Restoring it in such cases leads to the
incorrect flow of the virtual time.
In most cases new parameter is true (icount should be recalculated).
But there are two cases in i386 and openrisc when the CPU state is only
queried without the need to break the TB. This patch fixes both of
these cases.

In order to guarantee compatibility on migration, QEMU should have
complete control over the features it announces to the guest via CPUID.
However, for a number of Hyper-V-related cpu properties, if the
corresponding feature is not supported by the underlying KVM, the
propery is silently ignored and the feature is not announced to the
guest.
Refuse to start with an error instead.

In order to guarantee compatibility on migration, QEMU should have
complete control over the features it announces to the guest via CPUID.
However, the availability of Hyper-V frequency MSRs
(HV_X64_MSR_TSC_FREQUENCY and HV_X64_MSR_APIC_FREQUENCY) depends solely
on the support for them in the underlying KVM.
Introduce "hv-frequencies" cpu property (off by default) which gives
QEMU full control over whether these MSRs are announced.
While at this, drop the redundant check of the cpu tsc frequency, and
decouple this feature from hv-time.

Implements the CPUID trap for CPUID 1 to include the
CPUID_EXT_HYPERVISOR flag in the ECX results. This was preventing some
older linux kernels from booting when trying to access MSR's that dont
make sense when virtualized.

In commit 7073fbada7, the `andn` instruction
was implemented via `tcg_gen_andc` but passes the operands in the wrong
order:
- X86 defines `andn dest,src1,src2` as: dest = ~src1 & src2
- TCG defines `andc dest,src1,src2` as: dest = src1 & ~src2

This fixes a breaking change to WHvSetPartitionProperty to pass the 'in'
PropertyCode on function invocation introduced in Windows Insider SDK 17110.
Usage of this indicates the PropertyCode of the opaque PropertyBuffer passed in
on function invocation.
Also fixes the removal of the PropertyCode parameter from the
WHV_PARTITION_PROPERTY struct as it is now passed to the function directly.

Intel processor trace should be disabled when
CPUID.(EAX=14H,ECX=0H).ECX.[bit31] is set.
Generated packets which contain IP payloads will have LIP
values when this bit is set, or IP payloads will have RIP
values.
Currently, The information of CPUID 14H is constant to make
live migration safty and this bit is always 0 in guest even
if host support LIP values.
Guest sees the bit is 0 will expect IP payloads with RIP
values, but the host CPU will generate IP payloads with
LIP values if this bit is set in HW.
To make sure the value of IP payloads correctly, Intel PT
should be disabled when bit[31] is set.

The capabilities include platform diffie-hellman key (pdh) and certificate
chain. The key can be provided to the external entities which wants to

information regarding the feature (such as which page table bit is used

During machine creation we encrypted the guest bios image, the
LAUNCH_MEASURE command can be used to retrieve the measurement of
the encrypted memory region. This measurement is a signature of
the memory contents that can be sent to the guest owner as an
attestation that the memory was encrypted correctly by the firmware.
VM management tools like libvirt can query the measurement using
query-sev-launch-measure QMP command.

When SEV is enabled, the hardware encryption engine uses a tweak such
that the two identical plaintext at different location will have a
different ciphertexts. So swapping or moving a ciphertexts of two guest
pages will not result in plaintexts being swapped. Hence relocating
a physical backing pages of the SEV guest will require some additional
steps in KVM driver. The KVM_MEMORY_ENCRYPT_{UN,}REG_REGION ioctl can be
used to register/unregister the guest memory region which may contain the
encrypted data. KVM driver will internally handle the relocating physical
backing pages of registered memory regions.

When memory encryption is enabled, KVM_SEV_INIT command is used to
initialize the platform. The command loads the SEV related persistent
data from non-volatile storage and initializes the platform context.
This command should be first issued before invoking any other guest
commands provided by the SEV firmware.

Add a new memory encryption object 'sev-guest'. The object will be used
to create encrypted VMs on AMD EPYC CPU. The object provides the properties
to pass guest owner's public Diffie-hellman key, guest policy and session
information required to create the memory encryption context within the
SEV firmware.

CPU since boot.
KVM commit 52797bf9a875 ("KVM: x86: Add emulation of MSR_SMI_COUNT")
introduced support for emulating this MSR.
This commit adds support for QEMU to save/load this

Expose Intel Processor Trace feature to guest.
To make Intel PT live migration safe and get same CPUID information
with same CPU model on diffrent host. CPUID[14] is constant in this
patch. Intel PT use EPT is first supported in IceLake, the CPUID[14]
get on this machine as default value. Intel PT would be disabled
if any machine don't support this minial feature list.

The use of WHvGetExitContextSize will break ABI compatibility if the platform
changes the context size while a qemu compiled executable does not recompile.
To avoid this we now use sizeof and let the platform determine which version
of the struction was passed for ABI compatibility.

Fixes an issue where if the tpr is assigned to the array but not a different
value from what is already expected on the vp the code will skip incrementing
the reg_count. In this case its possible that we set an invalid memory section
of the next call for DeliverabilityNotifications that was not expected.
The fix is to use a local variable to store the temporary tpr and only update
the array if the local tpr value is different than the vp context.

The previous commit improved compile time by including less of the
generated QAPI headers. This is impossible for stuff defined directly
in qapi-schema.json, because that ends up in headers that that pull in
everything.
Move everything but include directives from qapi-schema.json to new
sub-module qapi/misc.json, then include just the "misc" shard where
possible.
It's possible everywhere, except:
* monitor.c needs qmp-command.h to get qmp_init_marshal()
* monitor.c, ui/vnc.c and the generated qapi-event-FOO.c need
qapi-event.h to get enum QAPIEvent
Perhaps we'll get rid of those some other day.
Adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 120 instead
of 2300 out of 5100 objects.

As cpu.h is another typically widely included file which doesn't need
full access to the softfloat API we can remove the includes from here
as well. Where they do need types it's typically for float_status and
the rounding modes so we move that to softfloat-types.h as well.
As a result of not having softfloat in every cpu.h call we now need to
add it to various helpers that do need the full softfloat.h
definitions.

Since HAX_VM_IOCTL_ALLOC_RAM takes a 32-bit size, it cannot handle
RAM blocks of 4GB or larger, which is why HAXM can only run guests
with less than 4GB of RAM. Solve this problem by utilizing the new
HAXM API, HAX_VM_IOCTL_ADD_RAMBLOCK, which takes a 64-bit size, to
register RAM blocks with the HAXM kernel module. The new API is
first added in HAXM 7.0.0, and its availablility and be confirmed
by the presence of the HAX_CAP_64BIT_RAMBLOCK capability flag.
When the guest RAM size reaches 7GB, QEMU will ask HAXM to set up a
memory mapping that covers a 4GB region, which will fail, because
HAX_VM_IOCTL_SET_RAM also takes a 32-bit size. Work around this
limitation by splitting the large mapping into small ones and
calling HAX_VM_IOCTL_SET_RAM multiple times.

<memory.h> is a non-standard obsolete header that was long ago
replaced by <string.h>.
<malloc.h> is a non-standard header; it is not obsolete (we must
use it for malloc_trim, for example), but generally should not
be used in files that just need malloc() and friends, where
<stdlib.h> is the standard header.
And since osdep.h already guarantees string.h and stdlib.h, we
can drop these unusual system header includes as redundant
rather than replacing them.

qapi/qmp/ headers. Since we rarely need all of the headers
qapi/qmp/types.h includes, we bypass it most of the time. Most of the
places that use it don't need all the headers, either.

System headers should be included with <...>, our own headers with
"...". Offenders tracked down with an ugly, brittle and probably
buggy Perl script. Previous iteration was commit a9c94277f0.
Delete inclusions of "string.h" and "strings.h" instead of fixing them
to <string.h> and <strings.h>, because we always include these via
osdep.h.
Put the cleaned up system header includes first.
While there, separate #include from file comment with exactly one
blank line.

Implements the Windows Hypervisor Platform accelerator (WHPX) target. Which
acts as a hypervisor accelerator for QEMU on the Windows platform. This enables
QEMU much greater speed over the emulated x86_64 path's that are taken on
Windows today.
1. Adds support for vPartition management.
2. Adds support for vCPU management.
3. Adds support for MMIO/PortIO.
4. Registers the WHPX ACCEL_CLASS.

The MC68040 MMU provides the size of the access that
triggers the page fault.
This size is set in the Special Status Word which
is written in the stack frame of the access fault
exception.
So we need the size in m68k_cpu_unassigned_access() and
m68k_cpu_handle_mmu_fault().
To be able to do that, this patch modifies the prototype of
handle_mmu_fault handler, tlb_fill() and probe_write().
do_unassigned_access() already includes a size parameter.
This patch also updates handle_mmu_fault handlers and
tlb_fill() of all targets (only parameter, no code change).

The new MSR IA32_SPEC_CTRL MSR was introduced by a recent Intel
microcode updated and can be used by OSes to mitigate
CVE-2017-5715. Unfortunately we can't change the existing CPU
models without breaking existing setups, so users need to
explicitly update their VM configuration to use the new *-IBRS
CPU model if they want to expose IBRS to guests.
The new CPU models are simple copies of the existing CPU models,
with just CPUID_7_0_EDX_SPEC_CTRL added and model_id updated.

It is valid to have a 48-character model ID on CPUID, however the
definition of X86CPUDefinition::model_id is char[48], which can
make the compiler drop the null terminator from the string.
If a CPU model happens to have 48 bytes on model_id, "-cpu help"
will print garbage and the object_property_set_str() call at
x86_cpu_load_def() will read data outside the model_id array.
We could increase the array size to 49, but this would mean the
compiler would not issue a warning if a 49-char string is used by
mistake for model_id.
To make things simpler, simply change model_id to be const char*,
and validate the string length using an assert() on
x86_register_cpudef_type().

CPUID_7_0_EBX_CLFLUSHOPT is missed in current "Skylake-Server" cpu
model. Add it to "Skylake-Server" cpu model on pc-i440fx-2.12 and
pc-q35-2.12. Keep it disabled in "Skylake-Server" cpu model on older
machine types.

x86_update_hflags reference env->efer which is updated in hax_get_msrs,
so it has to be called after hax_get_msrs. This fix the bug that sometimes

Certain PMU-related MSRs are not supported for CPUs with PMU
architecture below version 2. KVM rejects any access to them (see
intel_is_valid_msr_idx routine in KVM), and QEMU fails on the following
assertion:
kvm_put_msrs: Assertion `ret == cpu->kvm_msr_buf->nmsrs' failed.
QEMU also could fail if KVM exposes less fixed counters then 3. It could
happen if host system run inside another hypervisor, which is tweaking
PMU-related CPUID. To prevent possible fail, number of fixed counters now is
obtained in the same way as number of GP counters.

cpu_restore_state officially supports being passed an address it can't
resolve the state for. As a result the checks in the helpers are
superfluous and can be removed. This makes the code consistent with
other users of cpu_restore_state.
Of course this does nothing to address what to do if cpu_restore_state
can't resolve the state but so far it seems this is handled elsewhere.
The change was made with included coccinelle script.

This patch refactors the event-injection code for hvf by using the
appropriate fields already provided by CPUX86State. At vmexit, it fills
these fields so that hvf_inject_interrupts can just retrieve them without

This file begins tracking the files that will be the code base for HVF
support in QEMU. This code base is part of Google's QEMU version of
their Android emulator, and can be found at

This code is based on Veertu Inc's vdhh (Veertu Desktop Hosted
Hypervisor), found at https://github.com/veertuinc/vdhh. Everything is
appropriately licensed under GPL v2-or-later, except for the code inside
x86_task.c and x86_task.h, which, deriving from KVM (the Linux kernel),
is licensed GPL v2-only.
This code base already implements a very great deal of functionality,
although Google's version removed from Vertuu's the support for APIC
page and hyperv-related stuff. According to the Android Emulator Release
Notes, Revision 26.1.3 (August 2017), "Hypervisor.framework is now
enabled by default on macOS for 32-bit x86 images to improve performance
and macOS compatibility", although we better use with caution for, as the
same Revision warns us, "If you experience issues with it specifically,
please file a bug report...". The code hasn't seen much update in the
last 5 months, so I think that we can further develop the code with
occasional visiting Google's repository to see if there has been any
update.
On top of Google's code, the following changes were made:
- add code to the configure script to support the --enable-hvf argument.
If the OS is Darwin, it checks for presence of HVF in the system. The
patch also adds strings related to HVF in the file qemu-options.hx.
QEMU will only support the modern syntax style '-M accel=hvf' no enable
hvf; the legacy '-enable-hvf' will not be supported.

- add glue code to cpus.c
- move HVFX86EmulatorState field to CPUX86State, changing the
the emulation functions to have a parameter with signature 'CPUX86State *'
instead of 'CPUState *' so we don't have to get the 'env'.

Normally we create an address space for that CPU and pass that address
space into the function. Let's just do it inside to unify address space
creations. It'll simplify my next patch to rename those address spaces.

Remove the manual advance of s->pc for the "is VEX" case

The value of HV_X64_MSR_SVERSION is initialized once at vcpu init, and
is reset to zero on vcpu reset, which is wrong.
It is supposed to be a constant, so drop the field from X86CPU, set the
msr with the constant value, and don't bother getting it.

Hyper-V has a notion of partition-wide MSRs. Those MSRs are read and
written as usual on each VCPU, however the hypervisor maintains a single
global value for all VCPUs. Thus writing such an MSR from any single
VCPU affects the global value that is read by all other VCPUs.
This leads to an issue during VCPU hotplug: the zero-initialzied values
of those MSRs get synced into KVM and override the global values as has
already been set by the guest.
This change makes the partition-wide MSRs only be synchronized on the
first vcpu.

This is identical for each target. So, move the initialization to
common code. Move the variable itself out of tcg_ctx and name it
cpu_env to minimize changes within targets.
This also means we can remove tcg_global_reg_new_{ptr,i32,i64},
since there are no longer global-register temps created by targets.

Convert all existing readers of tb->cflags to tb_cflags, so that we
use atomic_read and therefore avoid undefined behaviour in C11.
Note that the remaining setters/getters of the field are protected
by tb_lock, and therefore do not need conversion.
Luckily all readers access the field via 'tb->cflags' (so no foo.cflags,
bar->cflags in the code base), which makes the conversion easily
scriptable:

Besides being more correct, arbitrarily long instruction allow the
generation of a translation block that spans three pages. This
confuses the generator and even allows ring 3 code to poison the
translation block cache and inject code into other processes that are
in guest ring 3.
This is an improved (and more invasive) fix for commit 30663fd ("tcg/i386:
Check the size of instruction being translated", 2017-03-24). In addition
to being more precise (and generating the right exception, which is #GP
rather than #UD), it distinguishes better between page faults and too long
instructions, as shown by this test case:

It is unlikely that we will ever want to call this helper passing
an argument other than the current PC. So just remove the argument,
and use the pc we already get from cpu_get_tb_cpu_state.
This change paves the way to having a common "tb_lookup" function.

Modify the pre_save method on VMStateDescription to return an int
rather than void so that it potentially can fail.
Changed zillions of devices to make them return 0; the only
case I've made it return non-0 is hw/intc/s390_flic_kvm.c that already
had an error_report/return case.
Note: If you add an error exit in your pre_save you must emit
an error_report to say why.

The definitions for Hyper-V emulation are currently taken from a header
imported from the Linux kernel.
However, as these describe a third-party protocol rather than a kernel
API, it probably wasn't a good idea to publish it in the kernel uapi.
This patch introduces a header that provides all the necessary
definitions, superseding the one coming from the kernel.
The new header supports (temporary) coexistence with the kernel one.
The constants explicitly named in the Hyper-V specification (e.g. msr
numbers) are defined in a non-conflicting way. Other constants and
types have got new names.
While at this, the protocol data structures are defined in a more
conventional way, without bitfields, enums, and excessive unions.
The code using this stuff is adjusted, too; it can now be built both
with and without the kernel header in the tree.

Starting with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8, if
CPUID.40000005.EAX contains a value of -1, Windows assumes specific
limit to the number of VPs. In this case, Windows Server 2012
guest VMs may use more than 64 VPs, up to the maximum supported
number of processors applicable to the specific Windows
version being used.

named "x-hv-max-vps" as Eduardo's suggestion, and set it

Some of the lines were manually edited to reduce the line length to below
80 charecters. Some of the lines with newlines in the middle of the
string were also manually edit to avoid checkpatch errrors.
The #include lines were manually updated to allow the code to compile.
Several of the warning messages can be improved after this patch, to
keep this patch mechanical this has been moved into a later patch.

As of kernel commit eb82feea59d6 ("KVM: hyperv: support HV_X64_MSR_TSC_FREQUENCY
and HV_X64_MSR_APIC_FREQUENCY"), KVM supports two new MSRs which are required
for nested Hyper-V to read timestamps with RDTSC + TSC page.
This commit makes QEMU advertise the MSRs with CPUID.40000003H:EAX[11] and
CPUID.40000003H:EDX[8] as specified in the Hyper-V TLFS and experimentally
verified on a Hyper-V host. The feature is enabled with the existing hv-time CPU
flag, and only if the TSC frequency is stable across migrations and known.

The SSE4.1 phminposuw instruction finds the minimum 16-bit element in
the source vector, putting the value of that element in the low 16
bits of the destination vector, the index of that element in the next
three bits and zeroing the rest of the destination. The helper for
this operation fills the destination from high to low, meaning that
when the source and destination are the same register, the minimum
source element can be overwritten before it is copied to the
destination. This patch fixes it to fill the destination from low to
high instead, so the minimum source element is always copied first.
This fixes one gcc test failure in my GCC 6-based testing (and so
concludes the present sequence of patches, as I don't have any further
gcc test failures left in that testing that I attribute to QEMU bugs).

One of the cases of the SSE4.2 pcmpestri / pcmpestrm / pcmpistri /
pcmpistrm instructions does a substring search. The implementation of
this case in the pcmpxstrx helper is incorrect. The operation in this
case is a search for a string (argument d to the helper) in another
string (argument s to the helper); if a copy of d at a particular
position would run off the end of s, the resulting output bit should
be 0 whether or not the strings match in the region where they
overlap, but the QEMU implementation was wrongly comparing only up to
the point where s ends and counting it as a match if an initial
segment of d matched a terminal segment of s. Here, "run off the end
of s" means that some byte of d would overlap some byte outside of s;
thus, if d has zero length, it is considered to match everywhere,
including after the end of s. This patch fixes the implementation to
correspond with the proper instruction semantics. This fixes four gcc
test failures in my GCC 6-based testing.

The SSE4.1 packusdw instruction combines source and destination
vectors of signed 32-bit integers into a single vector of unsigned
16-bit integers, with unsigned saturation. When the source and
destination are the same register, this means each 32-bit element of
that register is used twice as an input, to produce two of the 16-bit
output elements, and so if the operation is carried out
element-by-element in-place, no matter what the order in which it is
applied to the elements, the first element's operation will overwrite
some future input. The helper for packssdw avoids this issue by
computing the result in a local temporary and copying it to the
destination at the end; this patch fixes the packusdw helper to do
likewise. This fixes three gcc test failures in my GCC 6-based
testing.

It turns out that my recent fix to set rip_offset when emulating some
SSE4.1 instructions needs generalizing to cover a wider class of
instructions. Specifically, every instruction in the sse_op_table7
table, coming from various instruction set extensions, has an 8-bit
immediate operand that comes after any memory operand, and so needs
rip_offset set for correctness if there is a memory operand that is
rip-relative, and my patch only set it for a subset of those
instructions. This patch moves the rip_offset setting to cover the
wider class of instructions, so fixing 9 further gcc testsuite
failures in my GCC 6-based testing. (I do not know whether there
might be still further classes of instructions missing this setting.)

The SSE4.1 pmovsx* and pmovzx* instructions take packed 1-byte, 2-byte
or 4-byte inputs and sign-extend or zero-extend them to a wider vector
output. The associated helpers for these instructions do the
extension on each element in turn, starting with the lowest. If the
input and output are the same register, this means that all the input
elements after the first have been overwritten before they are read.
This patch makes the helpers extend starting with the highest element,
not the lowest, to avoid such overwriting. This fixes many GCC test
failures (161 in the gcc testsuite in my GCC 6-based testing) when
testing with a default CPU setting enabling those instructions.

This target is not sophisticated in its use of cleanups at the
end of the translation loop. For the most part, any condition
that exits the TB is dealt with by emitting the exiting opcode
right then and there. Therefore the only is_jmp indicator that
is needed is DISAS_NORETURN.
For two stack segment modifying cases, we have not yet exited
the TB (therefore DISAS_NORETURN feels wrong), but intend to exit.
The caller of gen_movl_seg_T0 currently checks for any non-zero
value, therefore DISAS_TOO_MANY seems acceptable for that usage.

When emulating various SSE4.1 instructions such as pinsrd, the address
of a memory operand is computed without allowing for the 8-bit
immediate operand located after the memory operand, meaning that the
memory operand uses the wrong address in the case where it is
rip-relative. This patch adds the required rip_offset setting for
those instructions, so fixing some GCC test failures (13 in the gcc
testsuite in my GCC 6-based testing) when testing with a default CPU
setting enabling those instructions.

qemu call kvm_get_vcpu_events, and kernel return sipi_vector always
0, never valid when reporting to user space. But when qemu calls
kvm_put_vcpu_events will make sipi_vector in kernel be 0. This will
accidently modify sipi_vector when sipi_vector in kernel is not 0.

When commit 0bacd8b304 ('i386: Don't set CPUClass::cpu_def on
"max" model') removed the CPUClass::cpu_def field, we kept using
the x86_cpu_load_def() helper directly in max_x86_cpu_initfn(),
emulating the previous behavior when CPUClass::cpu_def was set.
However, x86_cpu_load_def() is intended to help initialization of
CPU models from the builtin_x86_defs table, and does lots of
other steps that are not necessary for "max".
One of the things x86_cpu_load_def() do is to set the properties
listed at tcg_default_props/kvm_default_props. We must not do
that on the "max" CPU model, otherwise under KVM we will
incorrectly report all KVM features as always available, and the
"svm" feature as always unavailable. The latter caused the bug
reported at:

Replace x86_cpu_load_def() with simple object_property_set*()
calls. In addition to fixing the above bug, this makes the KVM
branch in max_x86_cpu_initfn() very similar to the existing TCG
branch.
For reference, the full list of steps performed by
x86_cpu_load_def() is:
* Setting min-level and min-xlevel. Already done by
max_x86_cpu_initfn().
* Setting family/model/stepping/model-id. Done by the code added
to max_x86_cpu_initfn() in this patch.
* Copying def->features. Wrong because "-cpu max" features need to
be calculated at realize time. This was not a problem in the
current code because host_cpudef.features was all zeroes.
* x86_cpu_apply_props() calls. This causes the bug above, and
shouldn't be done.
* Setting CPUID_EXT_HYPERVISOR. Not needed because it is already
reported by x86_cpu_get_supported_feature_word(), and because
"-cpu max" features need to be calculated at realize time.
* Setting CPU vendor to host CPU vendor if on KVM mode.
Redundant, because max_x86_cpu_initfn() already sets it to the
host CPU vendor.

Currently when running KVM, we expose "KVMKVMKVM\0\0\0" in
the 0x40000000 CPUID leaf. Other hypervisors (VMWare,
HyperV, Xen, BHyve) all do the same thing, which leaves
TCG as the odd one out.
The CPUID signature is used by software to detect which
virtual environment they are running in and (potentially)
change behaviour in certain ways. For example, systemd
supports a ConditionVirtualization= setting in unit files.
The virt-what command can also report the virt type it is
running on
Currently both these apps have to resort to custom hacks
like looking for 'fw-cfg' entry in the /proc/device-tree
file to identify TCG.
This change thus proposes a signature "TCGTCGTCGTCG" to be
reported when running under TCG.
To hide this, the -cpu option tcg-cpuid=off can be used.

Convert all uses of error_report("warning:"... to use warn_report()
instead. This helps standardise on a single method of printing warnings
to the user.

pc.h and sysemu/kvm.h are also included from common code (where
CONFIG_KVM is not available), so the #defines that depend on CONFIG_KVM
should not be declared here to avoid that anybody is using them in a
wrong way. Since we're also going to poison CONFIG_KVM for common code,
let's move them to kvm_i386.h instead. Most of the dummy definitions
from sysemu/kvm.h are also unused since the code that uses them is
only compiled for CONFIG_KVM (e.g. target/i386/kvm.c), so the unused
defines are also simply dropped here instead of being moved.

Move the handling of conforming code segments before the handling
of stack switch.
Because dpl == cpl after the new "if", it's now unnecessary to check
the C bit when testing dpl < cpl. Furthermore, dpl > cpl is checked
slightly above the modified code, so the final "else" is unreachable
and we can remove it.

In do_interrupt64(), when interrupt stack table(ist) is enabled
and the the target code segment is conforming(e2 & DESC_C_MASK), the
old implementation always set new CPL to 0, and SS.RPL to 0.
This is incorrect for when CPL3 code access a CPL0 conforming code
segment, the CPL should remain unchanged. Otherwise higher privileged
code can be compromised.
The patch fix this for always set dpl = cpl when the target code segment
is conforming, and modify the last parameter `flags`, which contains
correct new CPL, in cpu_x86_load_seg_cache().

We would like to use a same QObject type to represent numbers, whether
they are int, uint, or floats. Getters will allow some compatibility

If the user set disable smm by '-machine smm=off', we
should not register smram_listener so that we can
avoid waster memory in kvm since the added sencond
address space.
Meanwhile we should assign value of the global kvm_state
before invoking the kvm_arch_init(), because
pc_machine_is_smm_enabled() may use it by kvm_has_mm().

Add an XML description for SSE registers (XMM+MXCSR) for both X86
and X86-64 architectures in the GDB stub:
- configure: Define gdb_xml_files for the X86 targets (32 and 64bit).
- gdb-xml/i386-32bit-sse.xml & gdb-xml/i386-64bit-sse.xml: The XML files
that contain a description of the XMM + MXCSR registers.
- gdb-xml/i386-32bit.xml & gdb-xml/i386-64bit.xml: wrappers that include
the XML file of the core registers and the other XML file of the SSE registers.
- target/i386/cpu.c: Modify the gdb_core_xml_file to the new XML wrapper,
modify the gdb_num_core_regs to fit the registers number defined in each
XML file.

This is a fix for the problem [1], where VMCB.CPL was set to 0 and interrupt
was taken on userspace stack. The root cause lies in the specific AMD CPU
behaviour which manifests itself as unusable segment attributes on SYSRET[2].
Here in this patch flags are not touched even segment is unusable or is not
present, therefore CPL (which is stored in DPL field) should not be lost and
will be successfully restored on kvm/svm kernel side.
Also current patch should not break desired behavior described in this commit:
4cae9c9796 ("target-i386: kvm: clear unusable segments' flags in migration")
since present bit will be dropped if segment is unusable or is not present.
This is the second part of the whole fix of the corresponding problem [1],
first part is related to kvm/svm kernel side and does exactly the same:
segment attributes are not zeroed out.

Running Windows with icount causes a crash in instruction of write cr.
This patch fixes it.
Reading and writing cr cause an icount read because there are called
cpu_get_apic_tpr and cpu_set_apic_tpr functions. So, there is need
gen_io_start()/gen_io_end() calls.

It's possible that one device kept its irqfd/virq there even when
MSI/MSIX was disabled globally for that device. One example is
virtio-net-pci (see commit f1d0f15a6 and virtio_pci_vq_vector_mask()).
It is used as a fast path to avoid allocate/release irqfd/virq
frequently when guest enables/disables MSIX.
However, this fast path brought a problem to msi_route_list, that the
device MSIRouteEntry is still dangling there even if MSIX disabled -
then we cannot know which message to fetch, even if we can, the messages
are meaningless. In this case, we can just simply ignore this entry.
It's safe, since when MSIX is enabled again, we'll rebuild them no
matter what.

As a rule, CPU internal state should never be updated when
!cpu->kvm_vcpu_dirty (or the HAX equivalent). If that is done, then
subsequent calls to cpu_synchronize_state() - usually safe and idempotent -
will clobber state.
However, we routinely do this during a loadvm or incoming migration.
Usually this is called shortly after a reset, which will clear all the cpu
dirty flags with cpu_synchronize_all_post_reset(). Nothing is expected
to set the dirty flags again before the cpu state is loaded from the
incoming stream.
This means that it isn't safe to call cpu_synchronize_state() from a
post_load handler, which is non-obvious and potentially inconvenient.
We could cpu_synchronize_all_state() before the loadvm, but that would be
overkill since a) we expect the state to already be synchronized from the
reset and b) we expect to completely rewrite the state with a call to
cpu_synchronize_all_post_init() at the end of qemu_loadvm_state().
To clear this up, this patch introduces cpu_synchronize_pre_loadvm() and
associated helpers, which simply marks the cpu state as dirty without
actually changing anything. i.e. it says we want to discard any existing
KVM (or HAX) state and replace it with what we're going to load.

Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or
reset to use the enum added in the previous patch.
It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no
arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the
host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd
still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots;
changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly
categorized all callers.
Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request
causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the
information to reset requests.

cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.
When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.
Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

Remove support for versions of the CPU state prior to 11
which is the version used in qemu 0.12 - you'd be pretty
lucky if you got a migration stream to work from anything
that old anyway. This doesn't affect the machine type
definition in any way.
My main reason for doing this is the hack for sysenter_esp/eip
that uses .get/.put's in state versions less than 7 (that's
prior to somewhere before 0.10).

Long long ago, we used to support storing the x86 FP registers in
a 64bit format.
Then c31da136a0 in v0.14-rc0 removed
the last support for writing that in the migration format.
Even before that, it was only used if you had softfloat disabled
(i.e. !USE_X86LDOUBLE) so in practice use of it in even earlier
qemu is unlikely for most users.
Kill it off, it's complicated, and possibly broken.

PS:
patch changes default value of CPUState::numa_node from 0
to CPU_UNSET_NUMA_NODE_ID. The only place for x86 that
would affected is monitor's 'infor numa' command which
uses that field. However legacy 0 value is still preserved
by pc_cpu_pre_plug() in this patch if user/numa.c hasn't
set it explicitly, so there is no change in behavior.

Change the nested if statements into a flat format, to make
it clearer what validation / capping is being performed on
different CPUID index values.
NB this changes behaviour when "index > env->cpuid_xlevel2".
This won't have any guest-visible effect because no there is
no CPUID[0xC0000001] feature supported by TCG, and KVM code
will never call cpu_x86_cpuid() with such an index value.

hax_update_mapping() avoids unnecessary and potentially expensive
calls to HAX_VM_IOCTL_SET_RAM by computing the net result (i.e.
effective mapping changes) of each MemoryRegion transaction, with
the help of a linked list of HAXMapping objects.
However, when processing a new mapping that overlaps with an
existing mapping in the list, it fails to handle the case where the
start address of the new mapping is above that of the existing
mapping in the guest physical address space. This happens when QEMU
is launched with "-machine q35 -enable-hax", which involves the
following MemoryRegion transaction for digging the VGA hole:
region_del: 0x00000000->0x08000000 VA 05fa0000 ('pc.ram')
region_add: 0x00000000->0x000a0000 VA 05fa0000 ('pc.ram')
region_add: 0x000a0000->0x000c0000 VA 00000000 ('vga-lowmem')
region_add: 0x000c0000->0x08000000 VA 06060000 ('pc.ram')
where the third MemoryRegion is MMIO and is ignored. The current
de-duplication logic handles the last MemoryRegion incorrectly and
produces the following result:
hax_mapping_dump_list updates:
+ 0x000c0000->0x08000000 VA 0x06060000
- 0x07fe0000->0x08000000 VA 0x0df80000
which is why VGA emulation does not work for Q35.
With this patch, one can see VGA output as Q35 boots up. Note that
Q35 support also requires a change to HAXM kernel module, which is
not available in the current HAXM release (6.1.2).
+ Add a warning if the input MemoryRegion is a ROM device, which is
not supported by HAXM kernel module at this time.

This patch implements XML target description support for X86 and X86-64
architectures in the GDB stub, as the way with ARM and PowerPC:
- gdb-xml/32bit-core.xml & gdb-xml/64bit-core.xml: Adding the XML target
description files, these files are picked from GDB source code.
- configure: Define gdb_xml_files for X86 targets.
- target/i386/cpu.c: Define gdb_core_xml_file and gdb_arch_name to add
XML awareness for this architecture, modify the gdb_num_core_regs to
fit the registers number defined in each XML file.

Fixed up title
The existing code for "host" and "max" CPU models overrides every
single feature in the CPU object at realize time, even the ones
that were explicitly enabled or disabled by the user using
"feat=on" or "feat=off", while features set using +feat/-feat are
kept.
This means "-cpu host,+invtsc" works as expected, while
"-cpu host,invtsc=on" doesn't.
This was a known bug, already documented in a comment inside
x86_cpu_expand_features(). What makes this bug worse now is that
libvirt 3.0.0 and newer now use "feat=on|off" instead of
+feat/-feat when it detects a QEMU version that supports it (see
libvirt commit d47db7b16dd5422c7e487c8c8ee5b181a2f9cd66).
Change the feature property getter/setter to set a
env->user_features field, to keep track of features that were
explicitly changed using QOM properties. Then make the
max_features code not override user features when handling "-cpu
host" and "-cpu max".
This will also allow us to remove the plus_features/minus_features
hack in the future, but I plan to do that after 2.9.0 is
released.

When a KVM_{GET,SET}_MSRS ioctl() fails, it is difficult to find
out which MSR caused the problem. Print an error message for
debugging, before we trigger the (ret == cpu->kvm_msr_buf->nmsrs)

glibc blacklists TSX on Haswell CPUs with model==60 and
stepping < 4. To make the Haswell CPU model more useful, make
those guests actually use TSX by changing CPU stepping to 4.

Some Intel CPUs are known to have a broken TSX implementation. A
microcode update from Intel disabled TSX on those CPUs, but
GET_SUPPORTED_CPUID might be reporting it as supported if the
hosts were not updated yet.
Manually fixup the GET_SUPPORTED_CPUID data to ensure we will
never enable TSX when running on those hosts.

Paths through the softmmu code during code generation now need to be audited
to check for double locking of tb_lock. In particular, VMEXIT can take tb_lock
through cpu_vmexit -> cpu_x86_update_cr4 -> tlb_flush.
To avoid this, split VMEXIT delivery in two parts, similar to what is done with
exceptions. cpu_vmexit only records the VMEXIT exit code and information, and
cc->do_interrupt can then deliver it when it is safe to take the lock.

Migration from a 2.3.0 qemu results in a reboot on the receiving QEMU
due to a disagreement about SM (System management) interrupts.
2.3.0 didn't have much SMI support, but it did set CPU_INTERRUPT_SMI
and this gets into the migration stream, but on 2.3.0 it
never got delivered.
~2.4.0 SMI interrupt support was added but was broken - so
that when a 2.3.0 stream was received it cleared the CPU_INTERRUPT_SMI
but never actually caused an interrupt.
The SMI delivery was recently fixed by 68c6efe07a, but the
effect now is that an incoming 2.3.0 stream takes the interrupt it
had flagged but it's bios can't actually handle it(I think
partly due to the original interrupt not being taken during boot?).
The consequence is a triple(?) fault and a reboot.

Implement query-cpu-model-expansion for target-i386.
This should meet all the requirements while being simple. In the
case of static expansion, it will use the new "base" CPU model,
and in the case of full expansion, it will keep the original CPU
model name+props, and append extra properties.
A future follow-up should improve the implementation of
type=full, so that it returns more detailed data, including every
writable QOM property in the CPU object.

The query-cpu-model-expand QMP command needs at least one static
model, to allow the "static" expansion mode to be implemented.
Instead of defining static versions of every CPU model, define a
"base" CPU model that has absolutely no feature flag enabled.
Despite having no CPUID data set at all, "-cpu base" is even a
functional CPU:
* It can boot a Slackware Linux 1.01 image with a Linux 0.99.12
kernel[1].
* It is even possible to boot[2] a modern Fedora x86_64 guest by
manually enabling the following CPU features:
-cpu base,+lm,+msr,+pae,+fpu,+cx8,+cmov,+sse,+sse2,+fxsr

Rename the existing "host" CPU model to "max, and set it to
kvm_enabled=false. The new "max" CPU model will be able to enable
all features supported by TCG out of the box, because its logic
is based on x86_cpu_get_supported_feature_word(), which already
works with TCG.
A new KVM-specific "host" class was added, that simply inherits
everything from "max" except the 'ordering' and 'description'
fields.

CPU runnability checks and CPU model expansion have slightly
different requirements. Document the steps involved in loading a
CPU model and realizing a CPU, so their requirements and purpose
are clearly defined.
This patch doesn't change any implementation. It just add
comments, rename the x86_cpu_load_features() function for clarity
(so it won't be confused with x86_cpu_load_def()), and move
x86_cpu_filter_features() closer to it.

This finally allows TCG to benefit from the iothread introduction: Drop
the global mutex while running pure TCG CPU code. Reacquire the lock
when entering MMIO or PIO emulation, or when leaving the TCG loop.
We have to revert a few optimization for the current TCG threading
model, namely kicking the TCG thread in qemu_mutex_lock_iothread and not
kicking it in qemu_cpu_kick. We also need to disable RAM block
reordering until we have a more efficient locking mechanism at hand.
Still, a Linux x86 UP guest and my Musicpal ARM model boot fine here.
These numbers demonstrate where we gain something:

Change the qemu_strtosz() & friends to return -EINVAL when @endptr is
null and the conversion doesn't consume the string completely.
Matches how qemu_strtol() & friends work.
Only test_qemu_strtosz_simple() passes a null @endptr. No functional
change there, because its conversion consumes the string.
Simplify callers that use @endptr only to fail when it doesn't point
to '\0' to pass a null @endptr instead.

To parse numbers with metric suffixes, we use
qemu_strtosz_suffix_unit(nptr, &eptr, QEMU_STRTOSZ_DEFSUFFIX_B, 1000)
Capture this in a new function for legibility:
qemu_strtosz_metric(nptr, &eptr)
Replace test_qemu_strtosz_suffix_unit() by test_qemu_strtosz_metric().
Rename qemu_strtosz_suffix_unit() to do_strtosz() and give it internal
linkage.

When running certain HMP commands ("info registers", "info cpustats",
"info tlb", "nmi", "memsave" or dumping virtual memory) with the "none"
machine, QEMU crashes with a segmentation fault. This happens because the
"none" machine does not have any CPUs by default, but these HMP commands
did not check for a valid CPU pointer yet. Add such checks now, so we get
an error message about the missing CPU instead.

Commit 2afbdf8 ("target-i386: exception handling for memory helpers",
2015-09-15) changed tlb_fill's cpu_restore_state+raise_exception_err
to raise_exception_err_ra. After this change, the cpu_restore_state
and raise_exception_err's cpu_loop_exit are merged into
raise_exception_err_ra's cpu_loop_exit_restore.
This actually fixed some bugs, but when SVM is enabled there is a
second path from raise_exception_err_ra to cpu_loop_exit. This is
the VMEXIT path, and now cpu_vmexit is called without a
cpu_restore_state before.
The fix is to pass the retaddr to cpu_vmexit (via
cpu_svm_check_intercept_param). All helpers can now use GETPC() to pass
the correct retaddr, too.

This fixes timekeeping of x86-64 Darwin/OS X/macOS guests when using KVM.
Darwin/OS X/macOS for x86-64 uses the TSC for timekeeping; it normally calibrates this by querying various clock frequency scaling MSRs. Details depend on the exact CPU model detected. The local APIC timer frequency is extracted from (EFI) firmware.
This is problematic in the presence of virtualisation, as the MSRs in question are typically not handled by the hypervisor. VMWare (Fusion) advertises TSC and APIC frequency via a custom 0x40000010 CPUID leaf, in the eax and ebx registers respectively. This is documented at https://lwn.net/Articles/301888/ among other places.
Darwin/OS X/macOS looks for the generic 0x40000000 hypervisor leaf, and if this indicates via eax that leaf 0x40000010 might be available, that is in turn queried for the two frequencies.
This adds a CPU option "vmware-cpuid-freq" to enable the same behaviour when running Qemu with KVM acceleration, if the KVM TSC frequency can be determined, and it is stable. (invtsc or user-specified) The virtualised APIC bus cycle is hardcoded to 1GHz in KVM, so ebx of the CPUID leaf is also hardcoded to this value.

Current migration code cannot handle some data structures such as
QTAILQ in qemu/queue.h. Here we extend the signatures of put/get
in VMStateInfo so that customized handling is supported. put now
will return int type.

We can safely allow a VM to be migrated with invtsc enabled if
tsc-khz is set explicitly, because:
* QEMU already refuses to start if it can't set the TSC frequency
to the configured value.
* Management software is already required to keep device
configuration (including CPU configuration) the same on
migration source and destination.

When CPU vendor is set to AMD, the AMD feature alias bits on
CPUID[0x80000001].EDX are already automatically copied from CPUID[1].EDX
on x86_cpu_realizefn(). When CPU vendor is Intel, those bits are
reserved and should be zero. On either case, those bits shouldn't be set
in the CPU model table.
Commit 726a8ff686 removed those
bits from most CPU models, but the Opteron_* entries still have
them. Remove the alias bits from Opteron_* too.
Add an assert() to x86_register_cpudef_type() to ensure we don't
make the same mistake again.

We have never has the concept of global TLB entries which would avoid
the flush so we never actually use this flag. Drop it and make clear

It is a common thing amongst the various cpu reset functions want to
flush the SoftMMU's TLB entries. This is done either by calling
tlb_flush directly or by way of a general memset of the CPU
structure (sometimes both).
This moves the tlb_flush call to the common reset function and
additionally ensures it is only done for the CONFIG_SOFTMMU case and
when tcg is enabled.
In some target cases we add an empty end_of_reset_fields structure to the
target vCPU structure so have a clear end point for any memset which
is resetting value in the structure before CPU_COMMON (where the TLB
structures are).
While this is a nice clean-up in general it is also a precursor for
changes coming to cputlb for MTTCG where the clearing of entries
can't be done arbitrarily across vCPUs. Currently the cpu_reset
function is usually called from the context of another vCPU as the
architectural power up sequence is run. By using the cputlb API
functions we can ensure the right behaviour in the future.

The new typename attribute on query-cpu-definitions will be used
to help management software use device-list-properties to check
which properties can be set using -cpu or -global for the CPU
model.

The new paging more is extension of IA32e mode with more additional page
table level.
It brings support of 57-bit vitrual address space (128PB) and 52-bit
physical address space (4PB).
The structure of new page table level is identical to pml4.
The feature is enumerated with CPUID.(EAX=07H, ECX=0):ECX[bit 16].
CR4.LA57[bit 12] need to be set when pageing enables to activate 5-level
paging mode.

The syscall and sysret instructions behave a bit differently:
TF is checked after the instruction completes.
This allows the o/s to disable #DB at a syscall by adding TF to FMASK.
And then when the sysret is executed the #DB is taken "as if" the
syscall insn just completed.

Check for KVM_CAP_ADJUST_CLOCK capability KVM_CLOCK_TSC_STABLE, which
indicates that KVM_GET_CLOCK returns a value as seen by the guest at
that moment.
For new machine types, use this value rather than reading
from guest memory.
This reduces kvmclock difference on migration from 5s to 0.1s
(when max_downtime == 5s).

The remote protocol can't handle flipping back and forth
between 32-bit and 64-bit regs. To compensate, pretend "as if"
on 64-bit cpu when in 32-bit mode.

We've currently got 18 architectures in QEMU, and thus 18 target-xxx
folders in the root folder of the QEMU source tree. More architectures
(e.g. RISC-V, AVR) are likely to be included soon, too, so the main
folder of the QEMU sources slowly gets quite overcrowded with the
target-xxx folders.
To disburden the main folder a little bit, let's move the target-xxx
folders into a dedicated target/ folder, so that target-xxx/ simply
becomes target/xxx/ instead.
