The previous commit introduced redirectable gnttab operations fairly
much like-for-like, with the exception of the extra arguments to the
->open() call which were always NULL/0 anyway.
This *changes* the arguments to the ->unmap() operation to include the
original ref# that was mapped. Under real Xen it isn't necessary; all we
need to do from QEMU is munmap(), then the kernel will release the grant,
and Xen does the tracking/refcounting for the guest.
When we have emulated grant tables though, we need to do all that for
ourselves. So let's have the back ends keep track of what they mapped
and pass it in to the ->unmap() method for us.

Since GUEST_ANNOUNCE is emulated the feature bit could be set without
backend support. This happens in the vDPA case.
However, backend vDPA parent may not have CVQ support. This causes an
incoherent feature set, and the driver may refuse to start. This
happens in virtio-net Linux driver.
This may be solved differently in the future. Qemu is able to emulate a
CVQ just for guest_announce purposes, helping guest to notify the new
location with vDPA devices that does not support it. However, this is
left as a TODO as it is way more complex to backport.
Tested with vdpa_net_sim, toggling manually VIRTIO_NET_F_CTRL_VQ in the
driver and migrating it with x-svq=on.

The QERR_ macros are leftovers from the days of "rich" error objects.
We've been trying to reduce their remaining use.
The stubbed out Rocker monitor commands are the last remaining users
of QERR_FEATURE_DISABLED. They fail like this:
(qemu) info rocker mumble
Error: The feature 'rocker' is not enabled
The real rocker commands fail like this when the named object doesn't
exist:
Error: rocker mumble not found
If that's good enough when Rocker is enabled, then it's good enough
when it's disabled, so replace QERR_FEATURE_DISABLED with that, and
drop the macro.

set it and fail the assert [0].
In the Linux kernel, dev->max_mtu itself is a valid value for the MTU
and for the vmxnet3 driver it's 9000, so a guest running Linux will
also fail the assert when trying to set an MTU of 9000.
VMXNET3_MAX_MTU and s->mtu don't seem to be used in relation to buffer

With the `size += 4` before the call to `crc32`, the CRC calculation
would overrun the buffer. Size is used in the while loop starting on
line 1009 to determine how much data to write back, with the last
four bytes coming from `crc_ptr`, so do need to increase it, but should
do this after the computation.
I'm unsure why this use of uninitialized memory in the CRC doesn't
result in CRC errors, but it seems clear to me that it should not be
included in the calculation.

The 'hwaddr' type is defined in "exec/hwaddr.h" as:
hwaddr is the type of a physical address
(its size can be different from 'target_ulong').
All definitions use the 'HWADDR_' prefix, except TARGET_FMT_plx:
$ fgrep define include/exec/hwaddr.h
#define HWADDR_H
#define HWADDR_BITS 64
#define HWADDR_MAX UINT64_MAX
#define TARGET_FMT_plx "%016" PRIx64
^^^^^^
#define HWADDR_PRId PRId64
#define HWADDR_PRIi PRIi64
#define HWADDR_PRIo PRIo64
#define HWADDR_PRIu PRIu64
#define HWADDR_PRIx PRIx64
#define HWADDR_PRIX PRIX64
Since hwaddr's size can be *different* from target_ulong, it is
very confusing to read one of its format using the 'TARGET_FMT_'
prefix, normally used for the target_long / target_ulong types:
$ fgrep TARGET_FMT_ include/exec/cpu-defs.h
#define TARGET_FMT_lx "%08x"
#define TARGET_FMT_ld "%d"
#define TARGET_FMT_lu "%u"
#define TARGET_FMT_lx "%016" PRIx64
#define TARGET_FMT_ld "%" PRId64
#define TARGET_FMT_lu "%" PRIu64
Apparently this format was missed during commit a8170e5e97
("Rename target_phys_addr_t to hwaddr"), so complete it by
doing a bulk-rename with:
$ sed -i -e s/TARGET_FMT_plx/HWADDR_FMT_plx/g $(git grep -l TARGET_FMT_plx)

When openvswitch reconnect Qemu after an unexpected disconnection
and Qemu therefore start the vhost_dev, acked_features field in
vhost_dev is initialized with value fetched from acked_features
field in NetVhostUserState, which should be up-to-date at that
moment but Qemu could not make it actually during the time window
of virtio features negotiation.
So we save the acked_features right after being configured by

Commit 02b61f38d3 ("hw/virtio: incorporate backend features in features")
properly negotiates VHOST_USER_F_PROTOCOL_FEATURES with the vhost-user
backend, but we forgot to enable vrings as specified in
docs/interop/vhost-user.rst:
If ``VHOST_USER_F_PROTOCOL_FEATURES`` has not been negotiated, the
ring starts directly in the enabled state.
If ``VHOST_USER_F_PROTOCOL_FEATURES`` has been negotiated, the ring is
initialized in a disabled state and is enabled by
``VHOST_USER_SET_VRING_ENABLE`` with parameter 1.
Some vhost-user front-ends already did this by calling
vhost_ops.vhost_set_vring_enable() directly:
- backends/cryptodev-vhost.c
- hw/net/virtio-net.c
- hw/virtio/vhost-user-gpio.c
But most didn't do that, so we would leave the vrings disabled and some
backends would not work. We observed this issue with the rust version of
virtiofsd [1], which uses the event loop [2] provided by the
vhost-user-backend crate where requests are not processed if vring is
not enabled.
Let's fix this issue by enabling the vrings in vhost_dev_start() for
vhost-user front-ends that don't already do this directly. Same thing
also in vhost_dev_stop() where we disable vrings.

Commit 69e1c14aa2 ("virtio: core: vq reset feature negotation support")
enabled VIRTIO_F_RING_RESET by default for all virtio devices.
This feature is not currently emulated by QEMU, so for vhost and
vhost-user devices we need to make sure it is supported by the offloaded
device emulation (in-kernel or in another process).
To do this we need to add VIRTIO_F_RING_RESET to the features bitmap
passed to vhost_get_features(). This way it will be masked if the device
does not support it.
This issue was initially discovered with vhost-vsock and vhost-user-vsock,
and then also tested with vhost-user-rng which confirmed the same issue.
They fail when sending features through VHOST_SET_FEATURES ioctl or
VHOST_USER_SET_FEATURES message, since VIRTIO_F_RING_RESET is negotiated
by the guest (Linux >= v6.0), but not supported by the device.

The Large-Send Task Offload Tx Descriptor (9.2.1 Transmit) has a
Large-Send MSS value where the driver specifies the MSS. See the
datasheet here:
http://realtek.info/pdf/rtl8139cp.pdf
The code ignores this value and uses a hardcoded MSS of 1500 bytes
instead. When the MTU is less than 1500 bytes the hardcoded value
results in IP fragmentation and poor performance.
Use the Large-Send MSS value to correctly size Large-Send packets.
Jason Wang <jasowang@redhat.com> noticed that the Large-Send MSS value
mask was incorrect so it is adjusted to match the datasheet and Linux
8139cp driver.

There are two Tx Descriptor formats called mode 0 and mode 1. The mode
is determined by the Large Send bit.
CP_TX_IPCS (bit 18) is defined in mode 1 but the code checks the bit
unconditionally. In mode 0 bit 18 is part of the Large Send MSS value.
Explicitly check the Large Send bit to distinguish Tx command modes.
This avoids bugs where modes are confused. Note that I didn't find any
actual bugs aside from needlessly computing the IP checksum when the
Large Send bit is enabled.

The device turns the Tx Descriptor into a Tx Status descriptor after
fully reading the descriptor. This involves clearing Tx Own (bit 31) to
indicate that the driver has ownership of the descriptor again as well
as several other bits.
The code keeps the first dword of the Tx Descriptor in the txdw0 local
variable. txdw0 is reused to build the first word of the Tx Status
descriptor. Later on the code uses txdw0 again, incorrectly assuming
that it still contains the first dword of the Tx Descriptor. The tx
offloading code misbehaves because it sees bogus bits in txdw0.
Use a separate local variable for Tx Status and preserve Tx Descriptor
in txdw0.

Here, the queue_index is the index of the cvq, but in some cases cvq
does not have the corresponding NetClientState, so overflow appears.
I add a check here, ignore illegal queue_index and cvq queue_index.
Note the queue_index is below the VIRTIO_QUEUE_MAX but greater or equal

There were several different ways to deal with the situation where the
vector specified for a msix function is out of bound:
- early return a function and keep progresssing
- propagate the error to the caller
- mark msix unusable
- assert it is in bound
- just ignore
An out-of-bound vector should not be specified if the device
implementation is correct so let msix functions always assert that the
specified vector is in range.
An exceptional case is virtio-pci, which allows the guest to configure
vectors. For virtio-pci, it is more appropriate to introduce its own
checks because it is sometimes too late to check the vector range in
msix functions.

Support queue_enable in vhost-kernel scenario. It can be called when
a vq reset operation has been performed and the vq is restared.
It should be noted that we can restart the vq when the vhost has
already started. When launching a new vhost device, the vhost is not
started and all vqs are not initalized until VIRTIO_PCI_COMMON_STATUS
is written. Thus, we should use vhost_started to differentiate the
two cases: vq reset and device start.

Queued packets in the corresponding queue pair are flushed

For virtio-net, userspace datapath will be disabled later in

The register definitions in tests/qtest/libqos/e1000e.c had names
different from hw/net/e1000_regs.h, which made it hard to understand
what test codes corresponds to the implementation. Use
hw/net/e1000_regs.h from tests/qtest/libqos/e1000e.c to remove
these duplications.
E1000E_CTRL_EXT_TXLSFLOW is removed from E1000E_CTRL_EXT settings
because hw/net/e1000_regs.h does not have the definition and it is for
TCP segmentation offload, which does not matter for the implemented
tests.

When virtio-net is used with the socket netdev backend, the backend
can be busy and not able to collect new packets.
In this case, net_socket_receive() returns 0 and registers a poll function
to detect when the socket is ready again.
In virtio_net_tx_bh(), virtio_net_flush_tx() forwards the 0, the virtio
notifications are disabled and the function is not re-scheduled, waiting
for the backend to be ready.
When the socket netdev backend is again able to send packets, the poll
function re-starts to flush remaining packets. This is done by
calling virtio_net_tx_complete(). It re-enables notifications and calls
again virtio_net_flush_tx().
But it seems if virtio_net_flush_tx() reaches the tx_burst value all
the queue is not flushed and no new notification is sent to re-schedule
virtio_net_tx_bh(). Nothing re-start to flush the queue and remaining
packets are stuck in the queue.
To fix that, detect in virtio_net_tx_complete() if virtio_net_flush_tx()
has been stopped by tx_burst and if yes re-schedule the bottom half
function virtio_net_tx_bh() to flush the remaining packets.
This is what is done in virtio_net_tx_bh() when the virtio_net_flush_tx()
is synchronous, and completly by-passed when the operation needs to be
asynchronous.

This is the first step towards moving all device config size calculation
logic into the virtio core code. In particular, this adds a struct that
contains all the necessary information for common virtio code to be able
to calculate the final config size for a device. This is expected to be
used with the new virtio_get_config_size helper, which calculates the
final length based on the provided host features.
This builds on top of already existing code like VirtIOFeature and
virtio_feature_get_config_size(), but adds additional fields, as well as
sanity checking so that device-specifc code doesn't have to duplicate it.
An example usage would be:
static const VirtIOFeature dev_features[] = {
{.flags = 1ULL << FEATURE_1_BIT,
.end = endof(struct virtio_dev_config, feature_1)},
{.flags = 1ULL << FEATURE_2_BIT,
.end = endof(struct virtio_dev_config, feature_2)},
{}
};
static const VirtIOConfigSizeParams dev_cfg_size_params = {
.min_size = DEV_BASE_CONFIG_SIZE,
.max_size = sizeof(struct virtio_dev_config),
.feature_sizes = dev_features
};
// code inside my_dev_device_realize()
size_t config_size = virtio_get_config_size(&dev_cfg_size_params,
host_features);
virtio_init(vdev, VIRTIO_ID_MYDEV, config_size);
Currently every device is expected to write its own boilerplate from the
example above in device_realize(), however, the next step of this
transition is moving VirtIOConfigSizeParams into VirtioDeviceClass,
so that it can be done automatically by the virtio initialization code.
All of the users of virtio_feature_get_config_size have been converted
to use virtio_get_config_size so it's no longer needed and is removed
with this commit.

Commit "e1000e: Prevent MSI/MSI-X storms" introduced msi_causes_pending
to prevent interrupt storms problem. It was tested with MSI-X.
In case of MSI, the guest can rely solely on interrupts to clear ICR.
Upon clearing all pending interrupts, msi_causes_pending gets cleared.
However, when e1000e_itr_should_postpone() in e1000e_send_msi() returns
true, MSI never gets fired by e1000e_intrmgr_on_throttling_timer()
because msi_causes_pending is still set. This results in interrupt loss.
To prevent this, we need to clear msi_causes_pending when MSI is going
to get fired by the throttling timer. The guest can then receive
interrupts eventually.

The code of setting RX descriptor status field maybe work fine in
previously, however with the update of glibc version, it shows two
issues when guest using dpdk receive packets:
1. The dpdk has a certain probability getting wrong buffer_addr
this impact may be not obvious, such as lost a packet once in
a while
2. The dpdk may consume a packet twice when scan the RX desc queue
over again
this impact will lead a infinite wait in Qemu, since the RDT
(tail pointer) be inscreased to equal to RDH by unexpected,
which regard as the RX desc queue is full
Write a whole of RX desc with DD flag on is not quite correct, because
when the underlying implementation of memcpy using XMM registers to
copy e1000_rx_desc (when AVX or something else CPU feature is usable),
the bytes order of desc writing to memory is indeterminacy
We can use full-scale test case to reproduce the issue-2 by
https://github.com/BASM/qemu_dpdk_e1000_test (thanks to Leonid Myravjev)
I also write a POC test case at https://github.com/cdkey/e1000_poc
which can reproduce both of them, and easy to verify the patch effect.
The hw watchpoint also shows that, when Qemu using XMM related instructions
writing 16 bytes e1000_rx_desc, concurrent with DPDK using movb
writing 1 byte status, the final result of writing to memory will be one
of them, if it made by Qemu which DD flag is on, DPDK will consume it
again.
Setting DD status in a separate operation, can prevent the impact of
disorder memory writing by memcpy, also avoid unexpected data when
concurrent writing status by qemu and guest dpdk.

The traditional ptimer behaviour includes a collection of weird edge
case behaviours. In 2016 we improved the ptimer implementation to
fix these and generally make the behaviour more flexible, with
ptimers opting in to the new behaviour by passing an appropriate set
of policy flags to ptimer_init(). For backwards-compatibility, we
defined PTIMER_POLICY_DEFAULT (which sets no flags) to give the old
weird behaviour.
This turns out to be a poor choice of name, because people writing
new devices which use ptimers are misled into thinking that the
default is probably a sensible choice of flags, when in fact it is
almost always not what you want. Rename PTIMER_POLICY_DEFAULT to
PTIMER_POLICY_LEGACY and beef up the comment to more clearly say that
new devices should not be using it.
The code-change part of this commit was produced by
sed -i -e 's/PTIMER_POLICY_DEFAULT/PTIMER_POLICY_LEGACY/g' $(git grep -l PTIMER_POLICY_DEFAULT)

The cause for the assert failure is due to that the vhost_dev index
for the ctrl vq was not aligned with actual one in use by the guest.
Upon multiqueue feature negotiation in virtio_net_set_multiqueue(),
if guest doesn't support multiqueue, the guest vq layout would shrink
to a single queue pair, consisting of 3 vqs in total (rx, tx and ctrl).
This results in ctrl_vq taking a different vhost_dev group index than
the default. We can map vq to the correct vhost_dev group by checking
if MQ is supported by guest and successfully negotiated. Since the
MQ feature is only present along with CTRL_VQ, we ensure the index
2 is only meant for the control vq while MQ is not supported by guest.

Per https://discourse.gnome.org/t/port-your-module-from-g-memdup-to-g-memdup2-now/5538
The old API took the size of the memory to duplicate as a guint,
whereas most memory functions take memory sizes as a gsize. This
made it easy to accidentally pass a gsize to g_memdup(). For large
values, that would lead to a silent truncation of the size from 64
to 32 bits, and result in a heap area being returned which is
significantly smaller than what the caller expects. This can likely
be exploited in various modules to cause a heap buffer overflow.
Replace g_memdup() by the safer g_memdup2() wrapper.

The migration code will not look at a VMStateDescription's
minimum_version_id_old field unless that VMSD has set the
load_state_old field to something non-NULL. (The purpose of
minimum_version_id_old is to specify what migration version is needed
for the code in the function pointed to by load_state_old to be able
to handle it on incoming migration.)
We have exactly one VMSD which still has a load_state_old,
in the PPC CPU; every other VMSD which sets minimum_version_id_old
is doing so unnecessarily. Delete all the unnecessary ones.

The -1 assumes that cvq device model is accounted in data_queue_pairs,
if cvq does not exists, but it's actually the opposite: Devices with
!cvq are ok but devices with cvq does not add the last queue to
data_queue_pairs.
This is not a problem to vhost-net, but it is to vhost-vdpa:
* Devices with cvq gets initialized at last data vq device model, not
at cvq one.
* Devices with !cvq never gets initialized, since last_index is the
first queue of the last device model.
Because of that, the right change in last_index is to actually add the
cvq, not to remove the missing one.
This is not a problem to vhost-net, but it is to vhost-vdpa, which
device model trust to reach the last index to finish starting the
device.
Also, as the previous commit, rename it to index_end.
Tested with vp_vdpa with host's vhost=on and vhost=off, with ctrl_vq=on
and ctrl_vq=off.

The fact that the MMIO handler is not re-entrant causes an infinite
loop under certain conditions:
Guest write to TDT -> Loopback -> RX (DMA to TDT) -> TX
We now eliminate the effect of this problem locally in e1000, by adding
a boolean in struct E1000State indicating when the TX side is busy. This
will cause any entering new call to return early instead of interfering
with the ongoing work, and eliminates any risk of looping.

introduced a generic way to hide a device but it has modified
qdev_device_add() to check a specific option of the failover device,

It's not needed (and not generic) to do that in qdev_device_add() because
this is also checked by the failover_hide_primary_device() function that

Commit 3fe9a838ec "dp8393x: Always use 32-bit accesses" set .impl.min_access_size
and .impl.max_access_size to 4 to try and fix the Linux jazzsonic driver which uses
32-bit accesses.
The problem with forcing the register access to 32-bit in this way is that since the
dp8393x uses 16-bit registers, a manual endian swap is required for devices on big
endian machines with 32-bit accesses.
For both access sizes and machine endians the QEMU memory API can do the right thing
automatically: all that is needed is to set .impl.min_access_size to 2 to declare that
the dp8393x implements 16-bit registers.
Normally .impl.max_access_size should also be set to 2, however that doesn't quite
work in this case since the register stride is specified using a (dynamic) it_shift
property which is applied during the MMIO access itself. The effect of this is that
for a 32-bit access the memory API performs 2 x 16-bit accesses, but the use of
it_shift within the MMIO access itself causes the register value to be repeated in both
the top 16-bits and bottom 16-bits. The Linux jazzsonic driver expects the stride to be
zero-extended up to access size and therefore fails to correctly detect the dp8393x
device due to the extra data in the top 16-bits.
The solution here is to remove .impl.max_access_size so that the memory API will
correctly zero-extend the 16-bit registers to the access size up to and including
it_shift. Since it_shift is never greater than 2 than this will always do the right
thing for both 16-bit and 32-bit accesses regardless of the machine endian, allowing
the manual endian swap code to be removed.

Per the DP83932C datasheet from July 1995:
4.0 SONIC Registers
4.1 THE CAM UNIT
The Content Addressable Memory (CAM) consists of sixteen
48-bit entries for complete address filtering of network
packets. Each entry corresponds to a 48-bit destination
address that is user programmable and can contain any
combination of Multicast or Physical addresses. Each entry
is partitioned into three 16-bit CAM cells accessible
through CAM Address Ports (CAP 2, CAP 1 and CAP 0) with
CAP0 corresponding to the least significant 16 bits of
the Destination Address and CAP2 corresponding to the
most significant bits.
Store the CAM registers as 16-bit as it simplifies the code.
Having now the CAM registers as arrays of 3 uint16_t, we can avoid
using the VMSTATE_BUFFER_UNSAFE macro by using VMSTATE_UINT16_2DARRAY
which is more appropriate. This breaks the migration stream however.

Instead of just returning 0/-1 and letting the caller make up a
meaningless error message, add an Error parameter to allow reporting the
real error and switch to 0/-errno so that different kind of errors can
be distinguished in the caller.
config_len in vhost_user_get_config() is defined by the device, so if
it's larger than VHOST_USER_MAX_CONFIG_SIZE, this is a programming
error. Turn the corresponding check into an assertion.

tap-bsd: Remove special casing for older OpenBSD releases
virtio-net: failover: add missing remove_migration_state_change_notifier()
hw/net/imx_fec: return 0xffff when accessing non-existing PHY
Signed-off-by: Peter Maydell <peter.maydell@linaro.org>
In the failover case configuration, virtio_net_device_realize() uses an
add_migration_state_change_notifier() to add a state notifier, but this
notifier is not removed by the unrealize function when the virtio-net
card is unplugged.
If the card is unplugged and a migration is started, the notifier is
called and as it is not valid anymore QEMU crashes.
This patch fixes the problem by adding the
remove_migration_state_change_notifier() in virtio_net_device_unrealize().
The problem can be reproduced with:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 1g -M q35 \

If a PHY does not exist, attempts to read from it should return 0xffff.
Otherwise the Linux kernel will believe that a PHY is there and select
the non-existing PHY. This in turn will result in network errors later
on since the real PHY is not selected or configured.
Since reading from or writing to a non-existing PHY is not an emulation
error, replace guest error messages with traces.

Currently the emulated EMAC for sun8i always traverses the transmit queue
from the head when transferring packets. It searches for a list of consecutive
descriptors whichs are flagged as ready for processing and transmits their payloads
accordingly. The controller stops processing once it finds a descriptor that is not
marked ready.
While the above behaviour works in most situations, it is not the same as the actual
EMAC in hardware. Actual hardware uses the TX_CUR_DESC register value to keep track
of the last position in the transmit queue and continues processing from that position
when software triggers the start of DMA processing. The currently emulated behaviour can
lead to packet loss on transmit when software fills the transmit queue with ready
descriptors that overlap the tail of the circular list.
This commit modifies the emulated EMAC for sun8i such that it processes
the transmit queue using the TX_CUR_DESC register in the same way as hardware.

Some mlx vdpa devices with kernels at least up to 5.11 currently present
0 as their MAC address. This is because they have not been
pre-configured with a MAC: they have a learning bridge and only learn
the MAC once guest is up. Kernel patches and tools to allow programming
the MAC from host are being developed. For now - since these
combinations exist in the field - let's detect zero mac and just try to
proceed with the mac from the qemu command line.
This makes the guest use this MAC to send packets in turn teaching
the MAC to the card, and things work.
TODO:
report the actual MAC from QEMU commad line in the info message.
TODO:
detect that a (non-zero) hardware MAC does not match QEMU command line
and fail init.

In failover_add_primary(), we search the id of the failover device by
scanning the list of the devices in the opts list to find a device with
a failover_pair_id equals to the id of the virtio-net device.
If the failover_pair_id is not found, QEMU ignores the primary
device silently (which also means it will not be hidden and
it will be enabled directly at boot).
After that, we search the id in the opts list to do a qdev_device_add()
with it. The device will be always found as otherwise we had exited
before, and thus the warning is never displayed.
Fix that by moving the error report to the first exit condition.
Also add a g_assert() to be sure the compiler will not complain
about a possibly NULL pointer.

failover_add_primary() calls qdev_device_add() and doesn't unref
the device. Because of that, when the device is unplugged a reference
is remaining and prevents the cleanup of the object.
This prevents to be able to plugin back the failover primary device,
with errors like:
(qemu) device_add vfio-pci,host=0000:41:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=root.3,failover_pair_id=net0
(qemu) device_del hostdev0
We can check with "info qtree" and "info pci" that the device has been removed, and then:
(qemu) device_add vfio-pci,host=0000:41:00.0,id=hostdev1,bus=root.3,failover_pair_id=net0
Error: vfio 0000:41:00.0: device is already attached

Per MPC8548ERM [1] chapter 14.5.3.4.1:
When RCTRL.RSF is 1, frames less than 64 bytes are accepted upon
a DA match. But currently QEMU does the opposite. This commit
reverses the RCTRL.RSF testing logic to match the manual.
Due to the reverse of the logic, certain guests may potentially
break if they don't program eTSEC to have RCTRL.RSF bit set.
When RCTRL.RSF is 0, short frames are silently dropped, however
as of today both slirp and tap networking do not pad short frames
(e.g.: an ARP packet) to the minimum frame size of 60 bytes. So
ARP requests will be dropped, preventing the guest from becoming
visible on the network.
The same issue was reported on e1000 and vmxenet3 before, see:
commit 78aeb23ede ("e1000: Pad short frames to minimum size (60 bytes)")
commit 40a87c6c9b ("vmxnet3: Pad short frames to minimum size (60 bytes)")

At present net_checksum_calculate() blindly calculates all types of
checksums (IP, TCP, UDP). Some NICs may have a per type setting in
their BDs to control what checksum should be offloaded. To support
such hardware behavior, introduce a 'csum_flag' parameter to the
net_checksum_calculate() API to allow fine control over what type
checksum is calculated.
Existing users of this API are updated accordingly.

Anywhere we create a list of just one item or by prepending items
(typically because order doesn't matter), we can use
QAPI_LIST_PREPEND(). But places where we must keep the list in order
by appending remain open-coded until later patches.
Note that as a side effect, this also performs a cleanup of two minor
issues in qga/commands-posix.c: the old code was performing
new = g_malloc0(sizeof(*ret));
which 1) is confusing because you have to verify whether 'new' and
'ret' are variables with the same type, and 2) would conflict with C++
compilation (not an actual problem for this file, but makes
copy-and-paste harder).

The Xilinx ZynqMP CAN controller is developed based on SocketCAN, QEMU CAN bus
implementation. Bus connection and socketCAN connection for each CAN module
can be set through command lines.
Example for using single CAN:
-object can-bus,id=canbus0 \
-machine xlnx-zcu102.canbus0=canbus0 \
-object can-host-socketcan,id=socketcan0,if=vcan0,canbus=canbus0
Example for connecting both CAN to same virtual CAN on host machine:
-object can-bus,id=canbus0 -object can-bus,id=canbus1 \
-machine xlnx-zcu102.canbus0=canbus0 \
-machine xlnx-zcu102.canbus1=canbus1 \
-object can-host-socketcan,id=socketcan0,if=vcan0,canbus=canbus0 \
-object can-host-socketcan,id=socketcan1,if=vcan0,canbus=canbus1
To create virtual CAN on the host machine, please check the QEMU CAN docs:

While receiving packets via e1000e_write_packet_to_guest() routine,
'desc_offset' is advanced only when RX descriptor is processed. And
RX descriptor is not processed if it has NULL buffer address.
This may lead to an infinite loop condition. Increament 'desc_offset'
to process next descriptor in the ring to avoid infinite loop.

The ctucan driver defines types for its registers which are a union
of a uint32_t with a struct with bitfields for the individual
fields within that register. This is a bad idea, because bitfields
aren't portable. The ctu_can_fd_regs.h header works around the
most glaring of the portability issues by defining the
fields in two different orders depending on the setting of the
__LITTLE_ENDIAN_BITFIELD define. However, in ctucan_core.h this
is unconditionally set to 1, which is wrong for big-endian hosts.
Set it only if HOST_WORDS_BIGENDIAN is not set. There is no need
for a "have we defined it already" guard, because the only place
that should set it is ctucan_core.h, which has the usual
double-inclusion guard.

Coverity points out that in ctucan_send_ready_buffers() we
set buff_st_mask = 0xf << (i * 4) inside the loop, but then
we never use it before overwriting it later.
The only thing we use the mask for is as part of the code that is
inserting the new buff_st field into tx_status. That is more
comprehensibly written using deposit32(), so do that and drop the
mask variable entirely.
We also update the buff_st local variable at multiple points
during this function, but nothing can ever see these
intermediate values, so just drop those, write the final
TXT_TOK as a fixed constant value, and collapse the only
remaining set/use of buff_st down into an extract32().

The ctucan device has 4 CAN bus cores, each of which has a set of 20
32-bit registers for writing the transmitted data. The registers are
however not contiguous; each core's buffers is 0x100 bytes after
the last.
We got the checks on the address wrong in the ctucan_mem_write()
function:
* the first "is addr in range at all" check allowed
addr == CTUCAN_CORE_MEM_SIZE, which is actually the first
byte off the end of the range
* the decode of addresses into core-number plus offset in the
tx buffer for that core failed to check that the offset was
in range, so the guest could write off the end of the
tx_buffer[] array
NB: currently the values of CTUCAN_CORE_MEM_SIZE, CTUCAN_CORE_TXBUF_NUM,
etc, make "buff_num >= CTUCAN_CORE_TXBUF_NUM" impossible, but we
retain this as a runtime check rather than an assertion to permit
those values to be changed in future (in hardware they are
configurable synthesis parameters).
Fix the top level check, and check the offset is within the buffer.

clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type
pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a
compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file
that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file:
$ CC=clang CXX=clang++ ./configure ... && make
../util/async.c:79:17: error: address argument to atomic operation must be a pointer to _Atomic type ('unsigned int *' invalid)
Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is
used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h
and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and
searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none.
This patch was generated using:
$ git grep -h -o '\<atomic\(64\)\?_[a-z0-9_]\+' include/qemu/atomic.h | \
sort -u >/tmp/changed_identifiers
$ for identifier in $(</tmp/changed_identifiers); do
sed -i "s%\<$identifier\>%q$identifier%g" \
$(git grep -I -l "\<$identifier\>")
done
I manually fixed line-wrap issues and misaligned rST tables.

qemu_hexdump()'s pointer to the buffer and length of the
buffer are closely related arguments but are widely separated
in the argument list order (also, the format of <stdio.h>
function prototypes is usually to have the FILE* argument
coming first).
Reorder the arguments as "fp, prefix, buf, size" which is
more logical.
