ff7c98a941 target/s390x: improve cpu compatibility check error message
some users were confused by this message showing under TCG:

 Selected CPU generation is too new. Maximum supported model
 in the configuration: 'xyz'

Clarify that the maximum can depend on the accel, and add a
hint to try a different one.

Also add a hint for features mismatch to suggest trying
different accel, QEMU and kernel versions.

8934643a0e target: Improve error reporting for CpuModelInfo member @props
query-cpu-model-comparison, query-cpu-model-baseline, and
query-cpu-model-expansion take CpuModelInfo arguments.  Errors in
@props members of these arguments are reported for 'props', without
further context.  For instance, s390x rejects

with

    {"error": {"class": "GenericError", "desc": "Invalid parameter type for 'props', expected: object"}}

This is unusual; the common QAPI unmarshaling machinery would complain
about 'modelb.props'.  Our hand-written code to visit the @props
member neglects to provide the context.

Tweak it so it provides it.  The command above now fails with

ef6783d3f7 target: Simplify type checks for CpuModelInfo member @props
CpuModelInfo member @props is semantically a mapping from name to
value, and syntactically a JSON object on the wire.  This translates
to QDict in C.  Since the QAPI schema language lacks the means to
express 'object', we use 'any' instead.  This is QObject in C.
Commands taking a CpuModelInfo argument need to check the QObject is a
QDict.

For arm, riscv, and s390x, the code checks right before passing the
QObject to visit_start_struct().  visit_start_struct() then checks
again.

Delete the first check.

The error message for @props that are not an object changes slightly
to the the message we get for this kind of type error in other
contexts.  Minor improvement.

Additionally, error messages about members of @props now refer to
'props.prop-name' instead of just 'prop-name'.  Another minor
improvement.

Both changes are visible in tests/qtest/arm-cpu-features.c.

95e9053a34 target/s390x/cpu_models: Fix missing ERRP_GUARD() for error_prepend()
As the comment in qapi/error, passing @errp to error_prepend() requires
ERRP_GUARD():

* Without ERRP_GUARD(), use of the @errp parameter is restricted:
...
* - It should not be passed to error_prepend(), error_vprepend() or
*   error_append_hint(), because that doesn't work with &error_fatal.
* ERRP_GUARD() lifts these restrictions.
*
* To use ERRP_GUARD(), add it right at the beginning of the function.
* @errp can then be used without worrying about the argument being
* NULL or &error_fatal.

ERRP_GUARD() could avoid the case when @errp is &error_fatal, the user
can't see this additional information, because exit() happens in
error_setg earlier than information is added [1].

In target/s390x/cpu_models.c, there are 2 functions passing @errp to
error_prepend() without ERRP_GUARD():
- check_compatibility()
- s390_realize_cpu_model()

Though both their @errp parameters point to their callers' local @err
virables and don't cause the issue as [1] said, to follow the
requirement of @errp, also add missing ERRP_GUARD() at their beginning.

ac1e867100 gdbstub: Use GDBFeature for gdb_register_coprocessor
This is a tree-wide change to introduce GDBFeature parameter to
gdb_register_coprocessor(). The new parameter just replaces num_regs
and xml parameters for now. GDBFeature will be utilized to simplify XML
lookup in a following change.

CVDG is the same as CVD, except that it converts 64 bits into 128,
rather than 32 into 64. Create a new helper, which uses Int128

7af51621b1 target/s390x/kvm/pv: Provide some more useful information if decryption fails
It's a common scenario to copy guest images from one host to another
to run the guest on the other machine. This (of course) does not work
with "secure execution" guests since they are encrypted with one certain
host key. However, if you still (accidentally) do it, you only get a
very user-unfriendly error message that looks like this:

 qemu-system-s390x: KVM PV command 2 (KVM_PV_SET_SEC_PARMS) failed:
  header rc 108 rrc 5 IOCTL rc: -22

Let's provide at least a somewhat nicer hint to the users so that they
are able to figure out what might have gone wrong.

195801d700 system/cpus: rename qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() to bql_lock()
The Big QEMU Lock (BQL) has many names and they are confusing. The
actual QemuMutex variable is called qemu_global_mutex but it's commonly
referred to as the BQL in discussions and some code comments. The
locking APIs, however, are called qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() and
qemu_mutex_unlock_iothread().

The "iothread" name is historic and comes from when the main thread was
split into into KVM vcpu threads and the "iothread" (now called the main
loop thread). I have contributed to the confusion myself by introducing
a separate --object iothread, a separate concept unrelated to the BQL.

The "iothread" name is no longer appropriate for the BQL. Rename the
locking APIs to:
- void bql_lock(void)
- void bql_unlock(void)
- bool bql_locked(void)

There are more APIs with "iothread" in their names. Subsequent patches
will rename them. There are also comments and documentation that will be
updated in later patches.

d12a91e0ba target/s390x/arch_dump: Add arch cleanup function for PV dumps
PV dumps block vcpu runs until dump end is reached. If there's an
error between PV dump init and PV dump end the vm will never be able
to run again. One example of such an error is insufficient disk space
for the dump file.

Let's add a cleanup function that tries to do a dump end. The dump
completion data is discarded but there's no point in writing it to a
file anyway if there's a possibility that other PV dump data is
missing.

3e19fbc0c5 target/s390x/cpu topology: Fix ordering and creation of TLEs
In case of horizontal polarization entitlement has no effect on
ordering.
Moreover, since the comparison is used to insert CPUs at the correct
position in the TLE list, this affects the creation of TLEs and now
correctly collapses horizontally polarized CPUs into one TLE.

bea402482a target/s390x: Fix LAALG not updating cc_src
LAALG uses op_laa() and wout_addu64(). The latter expects cc_src to be
set, but the former does not do it. This can lead to assertion failures
if something sets cc_src to neither 0 nor 1 before.

Fix by introducing op_laa_addu64(), which sets cc_src, and using it for
LAALG.

The OBJECT_DECLARE_CPU_TYPE() macro forward-declares each
ArchCPUClass type. These forward declarations are sufficient
for code in hw/ to use the QOM definitions. No need to expose

Hegerogeneous code needs access to the FOO_CPU_TYPE_NAME()
macro to resolve target CPU types. Move the declaration

"target/foo/cpu-qom.h" is supposed to be target agnostic
(include-able by any target). Add such mention in the
header.

  state to make navigation easier.

KVM_SYNC_GPRS, KVM_SYNC_ACRS, KVM_SYNC_CRS and KVM_SYNC_PREFIX are
available since kernel 3.10. Since we already require at least kernel
3.15 in the s390x KVM code, we can also assume that the KVM_CAP_SYNC_REGS
sync code is always possible for these registers, and remove the
related checks and fallbacks via KVM_SET_REGS and KVM_GET_REGS.

activate the S390_FEAT_CONFIGURATION_TOPOLOGY feature and
the topology facility in the host CPU model for the guest

The feature is disabled by default and fenced for SE
(secure execution).

When the host supports the CPU topology facility, the PTF
instruction with function code 2 is interpreted by the SIE,
provided that the userland hypervisor activates the interpretation
by using the KVM_CAP_S390_CPU_TOPOLOGY KVM extension.

The PTF instructions with function code 0 and 1 are intercepted
and must be emulated by the userland hypervisor.

During RESET all CPU of the configuration are placed in
horizontal polarity.

3d6e75f4df s390x/cpu topology: resetting the Topology-Change-Report
During a subsystem reset the Topology-Change-Report is cleared
by the machine.
Let's ask KVM to clear the Modified Topology Change Report (MTCR)
bit of the SCA in the case of a subsystem reset.

f4f54b582f target/s390x/cpu topology: handle STSI(15) and build the SYSIB
On interception of STSI(15.1.x) the System Information Block
(SYSIB) is built from the list of pre-ordered topology entries.
