Clang 3.9 passes the CONFIG_AVX2_OPT configure test. However, the
supplied <cpuid.h> does not contain the bit_AVX2 define that we use
when detecting whether the routine can be enabled.
Introduce a qemu-specific header that uses the compiler's definition
of __cpuid et al, but supplies any missing bit_* definitions needed.
This avoids introducing any extra ifdefs to util/bufferiszero.c, and
allows quite a few to be removed from tcg/i386/tcg-target.inc.c.

Solaris 9 was released in 2002, its successor Solaris 10 was
released in 2005, and Solaris 9 was end-of-lifed in 2014.
Nobody has stepped forward to express interest in supporting
Solaris of any flavour, so removing support for the ancient
versions seems uncontroversial.
In particular, this allows us to remove a use of 'uname'
in configure that won't work if you're cross-compiling.

For a very long time we have used 'uname -s' as our fallback if
we don't identify the target OS using a compiler #define. This
obviously doesn't work for cross-compilation, and we've had
a comment suggesting we fix this in configure for a long time.
Since we now have an exhaustive list of which OSes we can run
on (thanks to commit 898be3e041 making an unrecognized OS
be a fatal error), we know which ones we're missing.
Add check_define tests for the remaining OSes we support. The
defines checked are based on ones we already use in the codebase for
identifying the host OS (with the exception of GNU/kFreeBSD).
We can now set bogus_os immediately rather than doing it later.
We leave the comment about uname being bad untouched, since
there is still a use of it for the fallback for unrecognized
host CPU type.

Don't try to build the ivshmem-server and ivshmem-client tools unless
CONFIG_IVSHMEM is set.
This fixes in passing a build bug on NetBSD, which fails to build the
ivshmem tools because they use shm_open() and on NetBSD that requires
linking against -lrt.

This new call is trying to update a requested map cache entry
according to the changes in the physmap. The call is searching
for the entry, unmaps it and maps again at the same place using
a new guest address. If the mapping is dummy this call will
make it real.
This function makes use of a new xenforeignmemory_map2() call
with an extended interface that was recently introduced in
libxenforeignmemory [1].

While ARM could present the xenpv machine, it does not and trying to enable
it breaks compilation. Revert to the previous test which only looked at
$target_name, not $cpu.

compiler, with the result that if you don't happen to have one
then configure will spuriously print

The configure script prefers pkg-config over sdl-config, but
the "--static-libs" parameter only exists for the latter. With
pkg-config, "--static --libs" have to be used instead.

This lets you build without TCG (hardware accelerationor qtest only). When
this flag is passed to configure, it will automatically filter out the target
list to only those that support KVM or Xen or HAX.

We want the wide character functions from the ncurses header.
Unfortunately it doesn't provide them by default, but only
if either:
* NCURSES_WIDECHAR is defined (for ncurses 20111030 and up)
* _XOPEN_SOURCE/_XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED are suitably defined
So far we have been implicitly relying on the latter, because
for GNU libc when we define _GNU_SOURCE this causes libc
to define the _XOPEN_SOURCE macros for us. Unfortunately
this doesn't work on all libcs, because some (like OSX and
musl libc) do not define _XOPEN_SOURCE when _GNU_SOURCE
is defined.
We can't fix this by defining _XOPEN_SOURCE ourselves, because
that also means "and don't provide any functions that aren't in
that standard", and not all libcs provide any way to override
that to also get the non-standard functions. In particular
FreeBSD has no such mechanism, and OSX's _DARWIN_C_SOURCE
doesn't reenable everything (for instance getpagesize()
is still not prototyped if _DARWIN_C_SOURCE and _XOPEN_SOURCE
are both defined).
So we have to define NCURSES_WIDECHAR. (This will only work
if your ncurses is at least 20111030, as older versions
don't honour this macro.)

Add an XML description for SSE registers (XMM+MXCSR) for both X86
and X86-64 architectures in the GDB stub:
- configure: Define gdb_xml_files for the X86 targets (32 and 64bit).
- gdb-xml/i386-32bit-sse.xml & gdb-xml/i386-64bit-sse.xml: The XML files
that contain a description of the XMM + MXCSR registers.
- gdb-xml/i386-32bit.xml & gdb-xml/i386-64bit.xml: wrappers that include
the XML file of the core registers and the other XML file of the SSE registers.
- target/i386/cpu.c: Modify the gdb_core_xml_file to the new XML wrapper,
modify the gdb_num_core_regs to fit the registers number defined in each
XML file.

There was no possibility to add specific cxx flags using the configure
file. So A new entrance has been created to support it.
Duplication of information in configure and rules.mak. Taking
QEMU_CFLAGS and add them to QEMU_CXXFLAGS, now the value of
QEMU_CXXFLAGS is stored in config-host.mak, so there is no need for
it.
The makefile for libvixl was adding flags for QEMU_CXXFLAGS in
QEMU_CFLAGS because of the addition in rules.mak. That was removed, so
adding them where it should be.

The scripts/qemu-gdb.py file is not easily discoverable. Add a .gdbinit
file so GDB either loads qemu-gdb.py automatically or prints a message
informing the user how to enable them (some systems disable ./.gdbinit
loading for security reasons).
Symlink .gdbinit and the scripts directory in order to make out-of-tree
builds work. The scripts directory is used to find the qemu-gdb.py file
specified by a relative path in .gdbinit.

We have required a v9 cpu since 9b9c37c364.
However, the flags we were using did not reliably enable v8plus, which
meant that the compiler didn't know it could inline 64-bit atomics.

NetBSD ships with traditional BSD curses with compatibility with ncurses.
qemu works nicely with the basesystem version of curses(3) from NetBSD.
The only mismatch between curses(3) and ncurses is the lack of
curses_version() in the NetBSD version. This function is used solely in
the configure script, therefore eliminate it from the curses(3) detection.
With this change applied, configure detects correctly curses frontend.

Add missing support for "preallocation=falloc" to the Gluster block
driver. This change bases its logic on that of block/file-posix.c and
removed the gluster_supports_zerofill() and qemu_gluster_zerofill()
functions in favour of #ifdef checks in an easy to read
switch-statement.
Both glfs_zerofill() and glfs_fallocate() have been introduced with
GlusterFS 3.5.0 (pkg-config glusterfs-api = 6). A #define for the
availability of glfs_fallocate() has been added to ./configure.

Many users now prefer to use drive_mirror over NBD as an
alternative to the older migrate -b option; drive_mirror is
more complex to setup but gives you more options (e.g. only
migrating some of the disks if some of them are shared).
Allow the large chunk of block migration code to be compiled
out for those who don't use it.

The GThread implementation is not functional enough to actually
run QEMU reliably. While it was potentially useful for debugging,
we have a scripts/qemugdb/coroutine.py to enable tracing of
ucontext coroutines in GDB, so that removes the only reason for
GThread to exist.

QEMU_BUILD_BUG_ON should use C11's _Static_assert, if the compiler supports it,
to provide more readable messages on failure.
We check for _Static_assert in configure, and set CONFIG_STATIC_ASSERT
accordingly. QEMU_BUILD_BUG_ON invokes _Static_assert if CONFIG_STATIC_ASSERT
is defined, and reverts to the old way otherwise.
That way, systems without C11 conforming compiler will still have the old
messages, as verified by intentionally breaking the configure check.

This patch implements XML target description support for X86 and X86-64
architectures in the GDB stub, as the way with ARM and PowerPC:
- gdb-xml/32bit-core.xml & gdb-xml/64bit-core.xml: Adding the XML target
description files, these files are picked from GDB source code.
- configure: Define gdb_xml_files for X86 targets.
- target/i386/cpu.c: Define gdb_core_xml_file and gdb_arch_name to add
XML awareness for this architecture, modify the gdb_num_core_regs to
fit the registers number defined in each XML file.

Since commit "c53eeaf75a04 configure: eliminate Python dependency for
--help", configure --help fails to produce the list of available trace
backends if invoked out-of-tree. It also spits the following error:
grep: scripts/tracetool/backend/*.py: No such file or directory
This patch simply adds the missing $source_path to fix it.

Instead of trying to guess the Xen version to use by compiling various
test programs first just ask the system via pkg-config. Only if it
can't return the version fall back to the test program scheme.
If configure is being called with dedicated flags for the Xen libraries
use those instead of the pkg-config output. This will avoid breaking
an in-tree Xen build of an old Xen version while a new Xen version is
installed on the build machine: pkg-config would pick up the installed
Xen config files as the Xen tree wouldn't contain any of them.

Today qemu is using e.g. the value 480 for Xen version 4.8.0. As some
Xen version tests are using ">" relations this scheme will lead to
problems when Xen version 4.10.0 is being reached.
Instead of the 3 digit schem use a 5 digit scheme (e.g. 40800 for
version 4.8.0).

The ./configure script should produce --help output even if Python is
not installed.
Listing trace backends is simple: show the names of all Python modules
in scripts/tracetool/backend/ whose source code contains 'PUBLIC =
True'.
Perform the backend enumeration in shell instead of Python so that we
can move the Python check until after ./configure --help.

In the 2.7 release we stated in the ChangeLog that the
minimum glib version for Windows hosts was 2.30, but we
didn't update configure to enforce this because we were
very close to the release at the point where we noticed
the issue, and it only affected building the test suite.
We then forgot that we needed to do it. Fix the omission.
(The reason for the 2.30 requirement is use of
g_dir_make_tmp() -- our fallback implementation uses
mkdtemp(), which isn't available on Windows.)

The change in commit 898be3e041 which made completely
unrecognized OSes cause an error_exit "Unsupported host OS"
has some unfortunate unintended effects:
* if you run 'configure --help' on an unsupported host OS
(eg if intending to use it as a build machine for a
cross compile to a supported host) then the message
is printed instead of --help
* if the C compiler doesn't work or is missing (eg if
you passed an incorrect --cross-prefix by mistake)
the message is printed instead of the more useful
'compiler does not exist or does not work' message
Fix this by postponing the error_exit in this situation
until later, when we have already identified the more
useful cases for this.
The long term fix for this would be to move handling
of --help much further up in the configure script,
and make its output not dependent on checks that configure
runs. However for 2.9 this would be too invasive.

We plan to drop support in a future QEMU release for host OSes
and host architectures for which we have no test machine where
we can build and run tests. For the 2.9 release, make configure
print a warning if it is run on such a host, so that the user
has some warning of the plans and can volunteer to help us
maintain the port if they need it to continue to function.
This commit flags up as deprecated the CPU architectures:
* ia64
* sparc
* anything which we don't have a TCG port for
(and which was presumably using TCI)
and the OSes:
* GNU/kFreeBSD
* DragonFly BSD
* NetBSD
* OpenBSD
* Solaris
* AIX
* Haiku
It also makes entirely unrecognized host OS strings be
rejected rather than treated as if they were Linux (which
likely never worked).

Except, GCC 4.7.0 has finally removed the long deprecated -mno-cygwin

The driver has failed to build since commit da34e65, in qemu 2.6,
due to a missing include of qapi/error.h for error_setg().
Since no one has complained in three releases, it is easier to
remove the dead code than to keep it around, especially since it
is not being built by default and therefore prone to bitrot.

Introduce support for emulating the MIPS Boston development board. The
Boston board is built around an FPGA & 3 PCIe controllers, one of which
is connected to an Intel EG20T Platform Controller Hub. It is used
during the development & debug of new CPUs and the software intended to
run on them, and is essentially the successor to the older MIPS Malta
board.
This patch does not implement the EG20T, instead connecting an already
supported ICH-9 AHCI controller. Whilst this isn't accurate it's enough
for typical stock Boston software (eg. Linux kernels) to work with hard
disks given that both the ICH-9 & EG20T implement the AHCI
specification.
Boston boards typically boot kernels in the FIT image format, and this
patch will treat kernels provided to QEMU as such. When loading a kernel
directly, the board code will generate minimal firmware much as the
Malta board code does. This firmware will set up the CM, CPC & GIC
register base addresses then set argument registers & jump to the kernel
entry point. Alternatively, bootloader code may be loaded using the bios
argument in which case no firmware will be generated & execution will
proceed from the start of the boot code at the default MIPS boot
exception vector (offset 0x1fc00000 into (c)kseg1).
Currently real Boston boards are always used with FPGA bitfiles that
include a Global Interrupt Controller (GIC), so the interrupt
configuration is only defined for such cases. Therefore the board will
only allow use of CPUs which implement the CPS components, including the
GIC, and will otherwise exit with a message.

This enables the multi-threaded system emulation by default for ARMv7
and ARMv8 guests using the x86_64 TCG backend. This is because on the
guest side:
- The ARM translate.c/translate-64.c have been converted to
- use MTTCG safe atomic primitives
- emit the appropriate barrier ops
- The ARM machine has been updated to
- hold the BQL when modifying shared cross-vCPU state
- defer powerctl changes to async safe work
All the host backends support the barrier and atomic primitives but
need to provide same-or-better support for normal load/store
operations.

This commit creates a board which defaults to having 2GB of RAM.
Unfortunately on 32-bit hosts we can't create boards with 2GB of RAM,
and so 'make check' fails. I missed this during testing of the
merge, unfortunately. Luckily the offending commit is the last
one in the merge request, so we can just revert it for now.

make: move top level dir to end of include search path
The dir $(BUILD_DIR)/$(@D) was added to the include
path. This would sometimes point to a non-existant
directory, if the sub-dir in question did not contain
any target-independant files (eg tcg/). To deal with
this the rules.mak attempted to create the directory.
While this was succesful, it also caused accidental
creation of files in the parent of the build dir.
e.g. when building common source files into target
specific output files.
Rather than trying to workaround this, just revert
the code that attempted to mkdir the missing include
directories. Instead just turn off the compiler warning
in question as the missing dir is expected & harmless
in general.
NB: you can clean up a build directory parent that has
been filled with empty directories by commit ba78db44f6
using this GNU find command in that parent directory:
find audio backends block chardev crypto disas fsdev hw io linux-user \
migration nbd net qapi qom replay slirp target ui util \

This is just about the minimum required to enable compilation
without actually executing any instructions. This contains the
HPPACPU structure and the required callbacks, the gdbstub, the
basic translation loop, and a translate_one function that always
results in an illegal instruction.

use pkg-config to get libcrypt's version. However we can make a

Building qemu fails in distributions where gcc enables PIE by default
(e.g. Debian unstable) with:
/usr/bin/ld: -r and -pie may not be used together
You have to use -r instead of -Wl,-r to avoid gcc passing -pie to the linker
when PIE is enabled and a relocatable object is passed. However, clang
does not know about -r, so try -Wl,-r first.
[This is a fix for commit c96f0ee6a6
("rules.mak: Use -r instead of -Wl, -r to fix building when PIE is
default") which mostly worked but broke the ./configure --enable-modules
build with clang.

On systems which do not provide ncursesw.pc and whose /usr/include/curses.h
does not include wide support, we should not only try with no -I, i.e.
/usr/include, but also with -I/usr/include/ncursesw.
To properly detect for wide support with and without -Werror, we need to
check for the presence of e.g. the WACS_DEGREE macro.
We also want to stop at the first curses_inc_list configuration which works,
and make sure to set IFS to : at each new loop.

Add the AF_VSOCK address family so that qemu-ga will be able to use
virtio-vsock.
The AF_VSOCK address family uses <cid, port> address tuples. The cid is
the unique identifier comparable to an IP address. AF_VSOCK does not
use name resolution so it's easy to convert between struct sockaddr_vm
and strings.
This patch defines a VsockSocketAddress instead of trying to piggy-back
on InetSocketAddress. This is cleaner in the long run since it avoids
lots of IPv4 vs IPv6 vs vsock special casing.

configure --enable-colo/--disable-colo to switch COLO
support on/off.
COLO feature doesn't depend on any other external libraries,
So here it is reasonable to enable COLO by default, to
avoid re-compile QEMU if users want to use this capability.

When configured to compile out of tree, the configure script
copies BIOS blobs to the build directory. However since the PPC64 powernv
machine ROM has .lid extension, it is ignored and "make check" fails
when trying the powernv machine.
This adds *.lid to the list of copied blobs.

Allow qemu to build on 32-bit hosts without 64-bit atomic ops.
Even if we only allow 32-bit hosts to multi-thread emulate 32-bit
guests, we still need some way to handle the 32-bit guest using a
64-bit atomic operation. Do so by dropping back to single-step.

Force the use of cmpxchg16b on x86_64.
Wikipedia suggests that only very old AMD64 (circa 2004) did not have
this instruction. Further, it's required by Windows 8 so no new cpus
will ever omit it.
If we truely care about these, then we could check this at startup time
and then avoid executing paths that use it.

This patch implements Qemu user mode syncfs() syscall support. Syscall
syncfs() syncs the filesystem containing file determined by the open
file descriptor passed as the argument to syncfs().
The implementation consists of a straightforward invocation of host's
syncfs(). Configure and strace support is included as well.

C99 requires SIZE_MAX to be declared with the same type as the
integral promotion of size_t, but OSX mistakenly defines it as
an 'unsigned long long' expression even though size_t is only
'unsigned long'. Rather than futzing around with whether size_t
is 32- or 64-bits wide (which would be needed if we cared about
using SIZE_T in a #if expression), just hard-code it with a cast.
This is not a strict C99-compliant definition, because it doesn't
work in the preprocessor, but if we later need that, the build
will break on Mac to inform us to improve our replacement at that
time.

instance where the wrong type trips us up if we don't fix it
for good in osdep.h.
Some versions of glibc make a similar mistake with SSIZE_MAX; the
goal is that the approach of this patch could be copied to work
around that problem if it ever becomes important to us.

Copy data operated on during request from/to local buffers to/from
the grant references.
Before grant copy operation local buffers must be allocated what is
done by calling ioreq_init_copy_buffers. For the 'read' operation,
first, the qemu device invokes the read operation on local buffers
and on the completion grant copy is called and buffers are freed.
For the 'write' operation grant copy is performed before invoking
write by qemu device.
A new value 'feature_grant_copy' is added to recognize when the
grant copy operation is supported by a guest.

This removes our dependency to libuuid, so that the driver can always be
built.
Similar to how we handled data plane configure options, --enable-vhdx

But some small pieces of the HPPA backend still survived until
today. Since we also do not have support for a HPPA target in
QEMU, we can nowadays safely remove the remaining HPPA parts
(like the disassembler code, or the detection of HPPA in the
configure script).

QEMU's code relies on left shifts of signed integers always
being defined behaviour with the obvious 2s-complement
semantics. The only way to tell the compiler (and any
associated undefined-behaviour sanitizer) that we require a
C dialect with these semantics is to use the -fwrapv option.
This is a bit of a heavy hammer for the job as it also gives
us guaranteed semantics on integer arithmetic overflow which
in theory we don't require.
In an ideal world this would allow us to drop the warning
flag -Wno-shift-negative-value, but we must retain this to
avoid spurious warnings on clang versions predating the
fix to https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=25552.

Implement the new virtio sockets device for host<->guest communication
using the Sockets API. Most of the work is done in a vhost kernel
driver so that virtio-vsock can hook into the AF_VSOCK address family.
The QEMU vhost-vsock device handles configuration and live migration
while the rx/tx happens in the vhost_vsock.ko Linux kernel driver.
The vsock device must be given a CID (host-wide unique address):
# qemu -device vhost-vsock-pci,id=vhost-vsock-pci0,guest-cid=3 ...

This patch adds a tracing backend which sends output using syslog().
The syslog backend is limited to POSIX compliant systems.
openlog() is called with facility set to LOG_DAEMON, with the LOG_PID
option. Trace events are logged at level LOG_INFO.

The various host OSes are irritatingly variable about the name
of the linker emulation we need to pass to ld's -m option to
build the i386 option ROMs. Instead of doing this via a
CONFIG ifdef, check in configure whether any of the emulation
names we know about will work and pass the right answer through
to the makefile. If we can't find one, we fall back to not trying
to build the option ROMs, in the same way we would for a non-x86
host platform.
This is in particular necessary to unbreak the build on OpenBSD,
since it wants a different answer to FreeBSD and we don't have
an existing CONFIG_ variable that distinguishes the two.

It seems like there's no good reason for the compiler to exploit the
undefinedness of left shifts. GCC explicitly documents that they do not
use at all this possibility and, while they also say this is subject
to change, they have been saying this for 10 years (since the wording
appeared in the GCC 4.0 manual).
Disable these warnings by passing in -Wno-shift-negative-value.

As of e4650c81, we do w32 builds with -Werror enabled. Unfortunately
for cases where we enable VSS support in qemu-ga, we still have
warnings generated by VSS includes that ship as part of the Microsoft
VSS SDK.
We can selectively address a number of these warnings using
#pragma GCC diagnostic ignored ...
but at least one of these:
warning: ‘typedef’ was ignored in this declaration
resulting from declarations of the form:
typedef struct Blah { ... };
does not provide a specific command-line/pragma option to disable
warnings of the sort.
To allow VSS builds to succeed, the next-best option is disabling
these warnings on a per-file basis. pragmas like #pragma GCC
system_header can be used to declare subsequent includes/declarations
as being exempt from normal warnings, but this must be done within
a header file.
Since we don't control the VSS SDK, we'd need to rely on a
intermediate header include to accomplish this, and
since different objects in the VSS link target rely on different
headers from the VSS SDK, this would become somewhat of a rat's nest
(though not totally unmanageable).
The next step up in granularity is just marking the entire VSS
SDK include path as system headers via -isystem. This is a bit more
heavy-handed, but since this SDK hasn't changed since 2005, there's
likely little to be gained from selectively disabling warnings
anyway, so we implement that approach here.
This fixes the -Werror failures in both the configure test and the
qga build due to shared reliance on $vss_win32_include. For the
same reason, this also enforces a new dependency on -isystem support
in the C/C++ compiler when building QGA with VSS enabled.

This introduces a moderately general purpose framework for
testing performance of migration.
The initial guest workload is provided by the included 'stress'
program, which is configured to spawn one thread per guest CPU
and run a maximally memory intensive workload. It will loop
over GB of memory, xor'ing each byte with data from a 4k array
of random bytes. This ensures heavy read and write load across
all of guest memory to stress the migration performance. While
running the 'stress' program will record how long it takes to
xor each GB of memory and print this data for later reporting.
The test engine will spawn a pair of QEMU processes, either on
the same host, or with the target on a remote host via ssh,
using the host kernel and a custom initrd built with 'stress'
as the /init binary. Kernel command line args are set to ensure
a fast kernel boot time (< 1 second) between launching QEMU and
the stress program starting execution.
None the less, the test engine will initially wait N seconds for
the guest workload to stablize, before starting the migration
operation. When migration is running, the engine will use pause,
post-copy, autoconverge, xbzrle compression and multithread
compression features, as well as downtime & bandwidth tuning
to encourage completion. If migration completes, the test engine
will wait N seconds again for the guest workooad to stablize on
the target host. If migration does not complete after a preset
number of iterations, it will be aborted.
While the QEMU process is running on the source host, the test
engine will sample the host CPU usage of QEMU as a whole, and
each vCPU thread. While migration is running, it will record
all the stats reported by 'query-migration'. Finally, it will
capture the output of the stress program running in the guest.
All the data produced from a single test execution is recorded
in a structured JSON file. A separate program is then able to
create interactive charts using the "plotly" python + javascript
libraries, showing the characteristics of the migration.
The data output provides visualization of the effect on guest
vCPU workloads from the migration process, the corresponding
vCPU utilization on the host, and the overall CPU hit from
QEMU on the host. This is correlated from statistics from the
migration process, such as downtime, vCPU throttling and iteration
number.
While the tests can be run individually with arbitrary parameters,
there is also a facility for producing batch reports for a number
of pre-defined scenarios / comparisons, in order to be able to
get standardized results across different hardware configurations
(eg TCP vs RDMA, or comparing different VCPU counts / memory
sizes, etc).
To use this, first you must build the initrd image

This has many command line args for varying its behaviour.

Using mem + cpu binding is strongly recommended on NUMA
machines, otherwise the guest performance results will
vary wildly between runs of the test due to lucky/unlucky
NUMA placement, making sensible data analysis impossible.

The guestperf-plot.py program can accept multiple json files
to plot, enabling results from different configurations to
be compared.
Finally, to run the entire standardized set of comparisons

For clang before 3.5, -fno-integrated-as does not exist,
so the workaround in 5f6f0e27fb fails to build.
Use clang's default assembler for linux-user/safe-syscall.S,
and explicitly change to use the system assembler for the
option roms.

We fail to pass to $(AS) all of the different flags that may be required
for a given set of CFLAGS. Rather than figuring out the host-specific
mapping, it's better to allow the compiler driver to do that.
However, simply using $(CC) runs afoul of clang trying to build the
option roms. C.f. 3dd46c7852, wherein we changed from
using $(CC) to using $(AS) in the first place.
Work around this by passing -fno-integrated-as to clang, so that we use
the external assembler, and the clang driver still passes along all of
the options that the assembler might require.

Modern gnutls can use a global config file to control the
crypto priority settings for TLS connections. For example
the priority string "@SYSTEM" instructs gnutls to find the
priority setting named "SYSTEM" in the global config file.
Latest gnutls GIT codebase gained the ability to reference
multiple priority strings in the config file, with the first
one that is found to existing winning. This means it is now
possible to configure QEMU out of the box with a default
priority of "@QEMU,SYSTEM", which says to look for the
settings "QEMU" first, and if not found, use the "SYSTEM"
settings.
To make use of this facility, we introduce the ability to
set the QEMU default priority at build time via a new
configure argument. It is anticipated that distro vendors
will set this when building QEMU to a suitable value for
use with distro crypto policy setup. eg current Fedora
would run
./configure --tls-priority=@SYSTEM
while future Fedora would run
./configure --tls-priority=@QEMU,SYSTEM

Currently the internal hash code is using the gnutls hash APIs.
GNUTLS in turn is wrapping either nettle or gcrypt. Not only
were the GNUTLS hash APIs not added until GNUTLS 2.9.10, but
they don't expose support for all the algorithms QEMU needs
to use with LUKS.
Address this by directly wrapping nettle/gcrypt in QEMU and
avoiding GNUTLS's extra layer of indirection. This gives us
support for hash functions on a much wider range of platforms
and opens up ability to support more hash functions. It also
avoids a GNUTLS bug which would not correctly handle hashing
of large data blocks if int != size_t.

The AVX2 optimization test assumes that the object format
is ELF and the system has the readelf utility. If this isn't
true then configure might fail or emit a warning (since in
a pipe "foo | bar >/dev/null 2>&1" does not redirect the
stderr of foo, only of bar). Adjust the check so that if
we don't have readelf or don't have an ELF object then we
just don't enable the AVX2 optimization.

The probe we do to determine what flags to use to make the usermode
executables use a non-default text address has some flaws:
* we run it even if we're not building the user binaries
* we don't expect "ld --verbose" to fail
The combination of these two results in a harmless but
ugly "ld: unknown option: --verbose" message when running
configure on OSX.
Improve the probe to only run when we need it and to fail
nicely when even the backstop 'ld --verbose' approach fails.

For the user-only targets, we need to know something about the host CPU
architecture even if we are using the TCI interpreter rather than TCG.
(In particular user-exec.c has code for handling signals that needs
to know about that host's context structures.)
Specifically forbid building the user-only targets on unknown CPU
architectures, rather than allowing them to configure but then fail
when building user-exec.c.
This change drops supports for two configurations which were theoretically
possible before:
* linux-user targets on M68K hosts using TCI
* linux-user targets on HPPA hosts using TCI
We don't think anybody is actually trying to use these in practice, though:
* interpreted TCG on a slow host CPU would be unusably slow
* the m68k user-exec.c support is missing is_write detection so guest
code which writes to the same page it is executing from was broken
(will include any guest program using signals)
* HPPA TCG backend support was dropped two and a half years ago
with no complaints

At the moment if configure finds an unknown CPU it will set
ARCH to 'unknown', and then later either bail out or set it
to 'tci' (depending on whether the user passed configure the
--enable-tcg-interpreter switch). This is unnecessarily
confusing, because we could be using TCI in two cases:
* a known host architecture (in which case ARCH is set to
the actual host architecture, like 'i386')
* an unknown host architecture (in which case ARCH is
set to 'tci')
so nothing can rely on ARCH=tci to mean "using TCI".
Remove the line setting ARCH, so we leave it as "unknown",
which is what the actual situation is.

Use the safe_syscall wrapper for epoll_wait and epoll_pwait syscalls.
Since we now directly use the host epoll_pwait syscall for both
epoll_wait and epoll_pwait, we don't need the configure machinery
to check whether glibc supports epoll_pwait(). (The kernel has
supported the syscall since 2.6.19 so we can assume it's always there.)

On my Debian jessie system, including nettle/pbkdf2.h does not cause
NULL to be defined, which causes the test to fail to compile. Include
stddef.h to bring in a definition of NULL.

but as they are enums and not "#defines", check in "configure" if

Since pulseaudio 1.0 it's possible to set the individual stream volume
rather than setting the device volume. With this, setting hardware mixer
of a emulated sound card doesn't mess up the volume configuration of the
host.
A side effect is that this limits compatible pulseaudio version to 1.0
which was released on 2011-09-27.

The clang compiler supports a useful compiler option -Weverything,
and GCC also has other warnings not enabled by -Wall.
If glib header files trigger a warning, however, testing glib with
-Werror will always fail. A size mismatch is also detected without
-Werror, so simply remove it.

Right now if SDL2 is installed but not SDL1, default configure will
entirely disable SDL. Check upfront for SDL2 using pkg-config, but
still prefer SDL1 if both versions are installed.

Upon receiving an I/O error after an fsync, by default gluster will
dump its cache. However, QEMU will retry the fsync, which is especially
useful when encountering errors such as ENOSPC when using the werror=stop
option. When using caching with gluster, however, the last written data
will be lost upon encountering ENOSPC. Using the write-behind-cache
xlator option of 'resync-failed-syncs-after-fsync' should cause gluster
to retain the cached data after a failed fsync, so that ENOSPC and other
transient errors are recoverable.
Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if the
'resync-failed-syncs-after-fsync' xlator option is supported, so for now
close the fd and set the BDS driver to NULL upon fsync error.

Support for the PBKDF functions in nettle was not introduced
until version 2.6. Some distros QEMU targets have older
versions and thus lack PBKDF support. Address this by doing
a check in configure for the desired function and then skipping
compilation of the nettle-pbkdf.o module

The LUKS data format includes use of PBKDF2 (Password-Based
Key Derivation Function). The Nettle library can provide
an implementation of this, but we don't want code directly
depending on a specific crypto library backend. Introduce
a new include/crypto/pbkdf.h header which defines a QEMU
API for invoking PBKDK2. The initial implementations are
backed by nettle & gcrypt, which are commonly available
with distros shipping GNUTLS.
The test suite data is taken from the cryptsetup codebase
under the LGPLv2.1+ license. This merely aims to verify
that whatever backend we provide for this function in QEMU
will comply with the spec.

There are three backend impls provided. The preferred
is gnutls, which is backed by nettle in modern distros.
The gcrypt impl is provided for cases where QEMU build
against gnutls is disabled, but crypto is still desired.
No nettle impl is provided, since it is non-trivial to
use the nettle APIs for random numbers. Users of nettle
should ensure gnutls is enabled for QEMU.

Xen 4.2 become unsupported upstream in 09/2015 (see
http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Release_Features). However as far as the
interfaces provided by the toolstack libraries go 4.2 and 4.3 are
indistinguishable.
Therefore drop support for Xen 4.1 and earlier which removes a whole
pile of compatibility code which makes future work (to use stable
library interfaces provided by upstream) more difficult. In particular
all supported versions now use a pointer as a libxc handle (4.1 and
earlier used an integer, resulting in various shim layers).
Also Xen 4.2 was the first version of Xen to formally support upstream
QEMU (as a preview) so that makes sense as a cut-off now.
This change drops all the configure-y and resulting ifdefs in a mostly
mechanical way. A follow up will refactor wrappers which are now
unused.

Developers on 64-bit machines will often try to perform a
32-bit build of QEMU by running
./configure --extra-cflags="-m32"
Unfortunately if PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR is not set to point to
the location of the 32-bit pkg-config files, then configure
will silently pick up the 64-bit pkg-config files and still
succeed.
This causes a problem for glib because it means QEMU will
be pulling in /usr/lib64/glib-2.0/include/glibconfig.h
instead of /usr/lib/glib-2.0/include/glibconfig.h
This causes problems because the 'gsize' type (defined as
'unsigned long') will no longer be fully compatible with
the 'size_t' type (defined as 'unsigned int'). Although
both are the same size, the compiler refuses to allow
casts from 'unsigned long *' to 'unsigned int *' as they
are different pointer types. This results in non-obvious
compiler errors when building QEMU eg

Until the previous patch this relied on xc_fd(), which was only
implemented for Xen 4.0 and earlier.
Given this wasn't working since Xen 4.0 I have marked this as disabled
by default.
Removing this support drops the use of a bunch of symbols from
libxenctrl, specifically:
- xc_domain_create
- xc_domain_destroy
- xc_domain_getinfo
- xc_domain_max_vcpus
- xc_domain_setmaxmem
- xc_domain_unpause
- xc_evtchn_alloc_unbound
- xc_linux_build
This is another step towards only using Xen libraries which provide a
stable inteface.

In Xen 4.7 we are refactoring parts libxenctrl into a number of
separate libraries which will provide backward and forward API and ABI
compatiblity.
Specifically libxenevtchn, libxengnttab and libxenforeignmemory.
Previous patches have already laid the groundwork for using these by
switching the existing compatibility shims to reflect the intefaces to
these libraries.
So all which remains is to update configure to detect the libraries
and enable their use. Although they are notionally independent we take
an all or nothing approach to the three libraries since they were
added at the same time.
The only non-obvious bit is that we now open a proper xenforeignmemory
handle for xen_fmem instead of reusing the xen_xc handle.
Build tested with 4.0 .. 4.6 (inclusive) and the patches targetting
4.7 which adds these libraries.
This uses CONFIG_XEN_CTRL_INTERFACE_VERSION == 471 to cover the
introduction of these new interfaces.

Unfortunately the OpenBSD pdksh does not like brackets inside
the right part of a ${variable+word} parameter expansion:
$ echo "${a+($b)}"
ksh: ${a+($b)}": bad substitution
though both bash and dash accept them. In any case this line
was causing odd output in the case where nettle is not present:
nettle no ()
(because if nettle is not present then $nettle will be "no",
not a null string or unset).
Rewrite it to just use an if.
This bug was originally introduced in becaeb726 and was present
in the 2.4.0 release.

Implement a QIOChannel subclass that supports sockets I/O.
The implementation is able to manage a single socket file
descriptor, whether a TCP/UNIX listener, TCP/UNIX connection,
or a UDP datagram. It provides APIs which can listen and
connect either asynchronously or synchronously. Since there
is no asynchronous DNS lookup API available, it uses the
QIOTask helper for spawning a background thread to ensure
non-blocking operation.

The check for stack-protector support consisted in compiling and linking
the test program below (output by function write_c_skeleton()) with the
compiler flag -fstack-protector-strong first and then with
-fstack-protector-all if the first one failed to work:
int main(void) { return 0; }
This caused false positives when using certain toolchains in which the
compiler accepted -fstack-protector-strong but no support was provided
by the C library, since for this stack-protector variant the compiler
emits canary code only for functions that meet specific conditions
(local arrays, memory references to local variables, etc.) and the code
fragment under test included none of them (hence no stack protection
code generated, no link failure).
This fix changes the test program used for -fstack-protector checks to
include a function that meets conditions which cause the compiler to
generate canary code in all variants.

Currently if the user's compiler works for creating .o files but
their linker is broken such that compiling an executable from a
C file does not work, we will report a misleading error message
about the compiler not supporting __thread (since that happens
to be the first test we run which requires a working linker).
Explicitly check that compile_prog works as well as compile_object,
so that people whose toolchain setup is broken get a more helpful
error message.

Commit 7fe34ca9c2 actually disabled vhost-user-test altogether,
since CONFIG_VHOST_NET is a per-target config variable.
tests/vhost-user-test is already x86/x64 softmmu specific test, in order
to enable it correctly, kvm & vhost-net are also conditions. To check
that, set CONFIG_VHOST_NET_TEST_$target when kvm is also enabled.
Since "check-qtest-x86_64-y = $(check-qtest-i386-y)", avoid duplication
when both x86 & x64 are enabled.
Other targets than x86 aren't enabled yet, and is intentionally left as
a future improvement, since I can't easily test those.

Drop the libseccomp required version back to 2.1.0, restoring the ability
to build w/ --enable-seccomp on Ubuntu 14.04.
Commit 4cc47f8b3c tightened the dependency
on libseccomp from version 2.1.0 to 2.1.1. This broke building on Ubuntu
14.04, the current Ubuntu LTS release. The commit message didn't mention
any specific functional need for 2.1.1, just that it was the most recent
stable version at the time. I reviewed the changes between 2.1.0 and 2.1.1,
but it looks like that update just contained minor fixes and cleanups - no
obvious (to me) new interfaces or critical bug fixes.

This is a revert of ae6e8ef11e, but with a bit of refactoring,
and also specifically adding arm/aarch64, rather than all
architectures. Currently, libseccomp code appears to also support
mips, ppc, and s390. We could therefore allow qemu to enable
seccomp for those platforms as well, with additional configure
patches, given they're tested and proven to work.

Due to the addition of HVMlite and the requirement to always provide a
valid xc_domain_configuration_t, xc_domain_create now always takes an arch
domain config, which can be NULL in order to mimic previous behaviour.
Add a small stub called xen_domain_create that encapsulates the correct
call to xc_domain_create depending on the libxc version detected.

Some versions of clang may have difficulty compiling glibc headers when
-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE is used. For example, Clang++ 3.5.0-9.fc22 cannot
compile glibc's stdio headers when -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 is used. This
manifests currently as build failures with clang and any arm target.
According to LLVM dev Richard Smith, clang does not target or support
FORTIFY_SOURCE + glibc, and it should not be relied on.
"It's still an unsupported combination, and while it might compile, some
of the checks are unlikely to work because they require a frontend
inliner to be useful"

Conclusion: disable fortify-source if we appear to be using clang instead

If the user is using ccache during the configuration step,
it may interfere with some of the configuration tests,
particularly the "Is ccache interfering with macro analysis" step,
which is a bit of a poetic problem.
1) Disallow ccache from reading from the cache during configure,
but don't disable it entirely to allow us to see if it causes other
problems.
2) Force off CCACHE_CPP2 during the ccache test to get a deterministic
answer over whether or not we need to enable that feature later.

We now use epoxy to load opengl libraries. This means we don't need to
link opengl libraries directly if interfaces handled by epoxy. With
this, we just need epoxy headers and epoxy's *.so to build.
Tested with epoxy-1.3.1.
- sdl2/gtk/console egl stuff doesn't require other than epoxy
- milkymist-tmu2 glx stuff doesn't require other than epoxy
(lm32 test is limited, because can't find mmone-bios.bin, so just test
to load libGL with "./lm32-softmmu/qemu-system-lm32 -M milkymist,accel=qtest")

crypto: add sanity checking of TLS x509 credentials
defined new variables $TEST_LIBS and $TEST_CFLAGS and
used them in tests/Makefile to augment $LIBS and $CFLAGS.
Unfortunately this overlooks the fact that tests/Makefile
is not executed via recursive-make, it is just pulled into
the top level Makefile via an include statement. So rather
than just augmenting the compiler/linker flags for tests
it polluted the global flags.
This is thought to be behind a reported failure when
building the pixman module as a sub-module, since global
$CFLAGS are passed down to configure in pixman.
This change removes the $TEST_LIBS and $TEST_CFLAGS
replacing them with $TASN1_LIBS and $TASN1_CFLAGS,
setting only against specific objects/executables
that need them.

Currently the choice of whether to use nettle or gcrypt is
made based on what gnutls is linked to. There are times
when it is desirable to be able to force build against a
specific library. For example, if testing changes to QEMU's
crypto code all 3 possible backends need to be checked
regardless of what the local gnutls uses.
It is also desirable to be able to enable nettle/gcrypt
for cipher/hash algorithms, without enabling gnutls
for TLS support.
This gives two new configure flags, which allow the
following possibilities
Automatically determine nettle vs gcrypt from what
gnutls links to (recommended to minimize number of
crypto libraries linked to)

Currently POSIX builds rely on 'qemu-ga' target to do qga-only
distributable build. On w32, as with most standalone binary targets,
we rely on 'qemu-ga.exe' target.
Unlike with POSIX, qemu-ga for w32 has a number of related targets
such as VSS DLL and MSI package. We can do the full distributable
qga-only build on w32 with:
make qemu-ga.exe
or:
make msi
To make that work, we tie VSS dependencies onto qemu-ga.exe.
However, in reality the DLL isn't part of the binary, so we use a
filter to pull them out of the LINK recipe, which attempts to link
against prereqs for binary targets. Additionally, it could be argued
that VSS is a separate distributable, and shouldn't be implied by
qemu-ga.exe binary target.
To avoid this, we can tie the VSS dependencies only to the 'msi'
target, but that would make it impossible to do a qga-only build of
the w32 distributable without building the 'msi' package, which was
supported in the past.
An alternative approach is to add a new target to build the whole
distributable. w32 allows us to use the same build target we use
on POSIX, 'qemu-ga', since the current binary-only target on w32
is 'qemu-ga.exe'.
To further simplify the build, we also make 'qemu-ga' build the MSI
package if the appropriate ./configure options are set, making the
full qga-only build the same on both POSIX and w32: `make qemu-ga`

The oslib-win32 file currently provides a localtime_r and
gmtime_r replacement unconditionally. Some versions of
Mingw-w64 would provide crude macros for localtime_r/gmtime_r
which QEMU takes care to disable. Latest versions of Mingw-w64
now provide actual functions for localtime_r/gmtime_r, but
with a twist that you have to include unistd.h or pthread.h
before including time.h. By luck some files in QEMU have
such an include order, resulting in compile errors:

Switch VNC server over to using the QCryptoTLSSession object
for the TLS session. This removes the direct use of gnutls
from the VNC server code. It also removes most knowledge
about TLS certificate handling from the VNC server code.
This has the nice effect that all the CONFIG_VNC_TLS
conditionals go away and the user gets an actual error
message when requesting TLS instead of it being silently
ignored.
With this change, the existing configuration options for
enabling TLS with -vnc are deprecated.
Old syntax for anon-DH credentials:

This aligns VNC with the way TLS credentials are to be
configured in the future for chardev, nbd and migration
backends. It also has the benefit that the same TLS
credentials can be shared across multiple VNC server
instances, if desired.
If someone uses the deprecated syntax, it will internally
result in the creation of a 'tls-creds' object with an ID
based on the VNC server ID. This allows backwards compat
with the CLI syntax, while still deleting all the original
TLS code from the VNC server.

If the administrator incorrectly sets up their x509 certificates,
the errors seen at runtime during connection attempts are very
obscure and difficult to diagnose. This has been a particular
problem for people using openssl to generate their certificates
instead of the gnutls certtool, because the openssl tools don't
turn on the various x509 extensions that gnutls expects to be
present by default.
This change thus adds support in the TLS credentials object to
sanity check the certificates when QEMU first loads them. This
gives the administrator immediate feedback for the majority of
common configuration mistakes, reducing the pain involved in
setting up TLS. The code is derived from equivalent code that
has been part of libvirt's TLS support and has been seen to be
valuable in assisting admins.
It is possible to disable the sanity checking, however, via
the new 'sanity-check' property on the tls-creds object type,
with a value of 'no'.
Unit tests are included in this change to verify the correctness
of the sanity checking code in all the key scenarios it is
intended to cope with. As part of the test suite, the pkix_asn1_tab.c
from gnutls is imported. This file is intentionally copied from the
(long since obsolete) gnutls 1.6.3 source tree, since that version
was still under GPLv2+, rather than the GPLv3+ of gnutls >= 2.0.

"libxc: Fix do_memory_op to return negative value on errors"
made the libxc API less odd-ball: On errors, return value is
-1 and error code is in errno. On success the return value
is either 0 or an positive value.
Since we could be running with an old toolstack in which the
Exx value is in rc or the newer, we add an wrapper around
the xc_domain_add_to_physmap (called xen_xc_domain_add_to_physmap)
which will always return the EXX.
Xen 4.6 did not change the libxc functions mentioned (same parameters)
so we piggyback on the fact that Xen 4.6 has a new function:
commit 504ed2053362381ac01b98db9313454488b7db40 "tools/libxc: Expose
new hypercall xc_reserved_device_memory_map" and check for that.

The number of slots per page being 511 (i.e. not a power of two) means
that the (32-bit) read and write indexes going beyond 2^32 will likely
disturb operation. The hypervisor side gets I/O req server creation
extended so we can indicate that we're using suitable atomic accesses
where needed, allowing it to atomically canonicalize both pointers when
both have gone through at least one cycle.
The Xen side counterpart (which is not a functional prereq to this
change, albeit a build one) went in already (commit b7007bc6f9).

This adds "--enable-jemalloc" and "--disable-jemalloc" to allow linking
to jemalloc memory allocator.
We have already tcmalloc support,
but it seem to not working well with a lot of iothreads/disks.
The main problem is that tcmalloc use a shared thread cache of 16MB
by default.
With more threads, this cache is shared, and some bad garbage collections
can occur if the cache is too low.
It's possible to tcmalloc cache increase it with a env var:
TCMALLOC_MAX_TOTAL_THREAD_CACHE_BYTES=256MB
With default 16MB, performances are really bad with more than 2 disks.
Increasing to 256MB, it's helping but still have problem with 16 disks/iothreads.
Jemalloc don't have performance problem with default configuration.
Here the benchmark results in iops of 1 qemu vm randread 4K iodepth=32,
with rbd block backend (librbd is doing a lot of memory allocation),

Currently VSS dll/tlb files for use in w32 builds are only built as a
result of having been added to the general 'tools' target alongside
qemu-ga. This is fine for default make target, but if we build
qemu-ga directly via `make qemu-ga.exe`, the VSS files are not
created.
Fix this by moving the VSS dependencies to qemu-ga.exe directly.
With this move we can move the VSS files back out of 'tools',
and drop the extra handling from MSI target in Makefile.
Now we can build qemu-ga MSI package with:
./configure ...
make qemu-ga.exe
make msi
or simply:
./configure ...
make msi
and no longer need to do a full build beforehand.

Currently, if we don't explicitly disable support for MSI installer
via --disable-guest-agent-msi, the configure variable that tracks
the flag, 'guest_agent_msi', never gets set unless one of the probes
fails. Subsequent code then treats this unset value the same as if it
were a "yes" value (via != "no" style checks).
Instead, set the default "yes" value explicitly after the probes, then
make subsequent code expect the values to be set.
This makes it easier to report on whether or not MSI support was
enabled via probe by looking at the ./configure summary.

MSI probe assumes that qemu-ga support has been probed already, but in
cases where --enable-guest-agent/--disable-guest-agent have not been
passed to configure, qemu-ga support may end up getting enabled later,
as is the case with w32 builds. This leads to MSI probe prematurely
reporting error due to lack of qemu-ga support.
Fix this by moving MSI installer probe after the final qga probes.

Use NetUserSetInfo() to set the user password.
This function is notoriously known to be problematic for users with EFS
encrypted files. But the alternative, NetUserChangePassword() requires
the old password. Nevertheless, The EFS file should be recovered by
changing back to the old password.

Currently we need to examine config-host.mak to determine whether
options/probes for MSI package generation had desired result. Report
this more prominently in ./configure summary as we do with other

All tcg host architectures now support the guest base and as
there is no real performance lost, it can be always enabled.
Anyway, guest base use can be disabled lively by setting guest
base to 0.
CONFIG_USE_GUEST_BASE is defined as (USE_GUEST_BASE && USER_ONLY),
it should have to be replaced by CONFIG_USER_ONLY in non CONFIG_USER_ONLY
parts, but as some other parts are using !CONFIG_SOFTMMU I have chosen to
use !CONFIG_SOFTMMU instead.

The cocoa GUI frontend assumes it is the only GUI (it redefines
main() so it always gets control before the rest of QEMU), so
it does not play well with other UIs like SDL or GTK. (Mostly
people building QEMU on OSX don't have the necessary dependencies
available for configure to build those other front ends, so
mostly this problem goes unnoticed.)
Make configure automatically disable the SDL and GTK front ends
if the cocoa front end is enabled. (We were sort of attempting
to do this for SDL before, but not in a way that worked very well.)

Unfortunately Ubuntu's pkg-config information for gnutls is broken
for the static linking case, and outputs --libs options which the
compiler does not recognize. Work around this problem by testing
that the --cflags/--libs output will at least allow compilation
before enabling gnutls support.

Remove the direct use of gnutls for hash processing in the
websockets code, in favour of using the crypto APIs. This

Get rid of direct use of gnutls APIs in quorum blockdrv in
favour of using the crypto APIs. This avoids the need to
do conditional compilation of the quorum driver. It can
simply report an error at file open file instead if the
required hash algorithm isn't supported by QEMU.

preference to our built-in backend.

PCIAddress inforfation is obtained via SetupApi, which provides the
information about address, bus, etc. We look throught entire device tree
in the system and try to find device object for given volume. For this PDO
SetupDiGetDeviceRegistryProperty is called, which reads PCI configuration
for a given devicei if it is possible.
This is the most convinient way for a userspace service. The lookup is
performed for every volume available. However, this information is
not mandatory for vss-provider.
In order to use SetupApi we need to notify linker about it. We do not need
to install additional libs, so we do not make separate configuration
option to use libsetupapi.su
SetupApi gives as the same information as kernel driver
with IRP_MN_QUERY_INTERFACE.

This header file provides w32 ioctl definitions for working with disk
devices. Older versions of mingw do not expose this in a useable way,
so add a configure check and report it via CONFIG_QGA_NTDDSCSI.
Subsequent patches will use this macro to stub out functionality that
relies on this in cases where it's not available.

Introduce a new crypto/ directory that will (eventually) contain
all the cryptographic related code. This initially defines a
wrapper for initializing gnutls and for computing hashes with
gnutls. The former ensures that gnutls is guaranteed to be
initialized exactly once in QEMU regardless of CLI args. The
block quorum code currently fails to initialize gnutls so it
only works by luck, if VNC server TLS is not requested. The
hash APIs avoids the need to litter the rest of the code with
preprocessor checks and simplifies callers by allocating the
correct amount of memory for the requested hash.

Some recent patches require a function from libfdt version 1.4.0,
so we should check for this version during the configure step
already. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a proper #define
for the version number in the libfdt headers. So alternatively,
we check for the availability of the required function
fdt_get_property_by_offset() instead instead.

It makes sense that extra-cflags should be appended after the normal
CFLAGS so they don't get overridden by default behaviour. This way if
you specify something like:
./configure --extra-cflags="-O0"
You will see the requested behaviour.

libepoxy does the opengl extension handling for us.
It also is helpful for trouble-shooting as it prints nice error messages
instead of silently failing or segfaulting in case we do something
wrong, like using gl commands not supported by the current context.

gdb allows registers to be displayed/modified, and is being updated
to account for the new vector registers. Mirror these changes in
the gdb stub in qemu so that this can be performed when gdb is
attached to the qemu gdbserver.

Test if ccache is interfering with semantic analysis of macros,
disable its habit of trying to compile already pre-processed
versions of code if so. ccache attempts to save time by compiling
pre-processed versions of code, but this disturbs clang's static
analysis enough to produce false positives.
ccache allows us to disable this feature, opting instead to
compile the original version instead of its preprocessed version.
This makes ccache much slower for cache misses, but at least it
becomes usable with QEMU/clang.
This workaround only activates for users using ccache AND clang,
and only if their configuration is observed to be producing warnings.
You may need to clear your ccache for builds started without -Werror,
as those may continue to produce warnings from the cache.

The glib headers use GCC attributes. Unfortunately the __GNUC__ and
__GNUC_MINOR__ version macros are also defined by clang, but clang
doesn't support the same attributes as GCC.

This adds "--enable-tcmalloc" and "--disable-tcmalloc" to allow linking
to libtcmalloc from gperftools.
tcmalloc is a malloc implementation that works well with threads and is
fast, so it is good for performance.
It is disabled by default, because the MALLOC_PERTURB_ flag we use in
tests doesn't work with tcmalloc. However we can enable tcmalloc
specific heap checker and profilers later.
An IOPS gain can be observed with virtio-blk-dataplane, other parts of
QEMU will directly benefit from it as well:

Unfortunately it turns out that libseccomp 2.2 still does not work
correctly on non-x86 architectures; return to the previous configure
setup of insisting on libseccomp 2.1 or better and i386/x86_64 and
disabling seccomp support in all other situations.

libxseg has changed license to GPLv3. QEMU includes GPL "v2 only" code
which is not compatible with GPLv3. This means the resulting binaries
may not be redistributable!
Disable Archipelago (libxseg) by default to prevent accidental license
violations. Also warn if linking against libxseg is enabled to remind
the user.
Note that this commit does not constitute any advice about software
licensing. If you have doubts you should consult a lawyer.

Libseccomp dependency was mandating version 2.2.0 on all architectures
and this was causing configure and virt-test to break on non-updates
distros. This patch works-around it and give a more flexible way to
check the version, giving more time for other distros to update
libseccomp version.

Re-add the glx compile test to configure. We can't use pkg-config to
probe for glx, and as long as milkymist-tmu2 privately uses glx (due to
opengl infrastructure in qemu not being ready yet) we must continue to

This patch adds support for bzip2-compressed block entries as introduced
with OS X 10.4 (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Disk_Image).
It was tested against a 5.2G "OS X Yosemite" installation image which
stores the BLXX block in the XML property list (instead of resource
forks) and has over 5k chunks.
New configure entries are added (--enable-bzip2 / --disable-bzip2) to
control inclusion of bzip2 functionality (which requires linking against
libbz2). The help message suggests that this option is needed for DMG
files, but the tests are generic enough that other parts of QEMU can use
bzip2 if needed.
The identifiers are based on http://newosxbook.com/DMG.html.
The decompression routines are based on the zlib case, but as there is
no way to reset the decompression state (unlike zlib), memory is
allocated and deallocated for every decompression. This should not be
problematic as the decompression takes most of the time and as blocks
are typically about/over 1 MiB in size, only one allocation is done
every 2000 sectors.

The ioreq-server API added to Xen 4.5 offers better security than
the existing Xen/QEMU interface because the shared pages that are
used to pass emulation request/results back and forth are removed
from the guest's memory space before any requests are serviced.
This prevents the guest from mapping these pages (they are in a
well known location) and attempting to attack QEMU by synthesizing
its own request structures. Hence, this patch modifies configure
to detect whether the API is available, and adds the necessary
code to use the API if it is.

Current stable version of libseccomp (2.1.1) only supports i386 and
x86_64 archs correctly. This patch limits the usage of the syscall
filter for those archs and updates to the correct last version of
libseccomp.

The qemu-aarch64 and qemu-system-aarch64 binaries include support
for all the 32 bit ARM CPUs as well as the 64 bit ones. This means
we need to build in the GDB XML files for the 32 bit CPUs too.
Otherwise gdb will complain:

when you try to connect to our gdbserver to debug a 32 bit CPU

since commit 7dda5dc82a ("migration: initialize RAM to zero") the
guest memory is defined zero. No need to call valgrind on guest memory.
This reverts commit 62fe83318d ("qemu: Use valgrind annotations to
mark kvm guest memory as defined") thus speeding up kvm start if
<includedir>/valgrind/valgrind.h is available.

commit a93a3af9 introduces use of PIXMAN_TYPE_RGBA, but it's only available
in pixman >= 0.21.8. If pixman doesn't meet the version requirement, qemu
will fail to build with following message:

VM Image on Archipelago volume is specified like this:

Some non-linux systems, for example a system with
FreeBSD kernel and glibc, may declare struct mmsghdr
(in glibc) but may not have linux-specific header
file linux/ip.h. The actual implementation in qemu
includes this linux-specific header file unconditionally,
so compilation fails if it is not present. Include
this header in the configure test too.

If --enable-stack-protector is used is used, configure script try to use
--fstack-protector-strong. In case it's not supported, --fstack-protector-all
is enabled. If both protectors are not supported, configure does not use
any protector at all without any notification.
This patch reports error when user requests stack protector to be used and
both protector modes are not supported. Behavior is not changed in case
user do not use any of --enable-stack-protector/--disable-stack-protector.

The mmsghdr struct is only introduced in Linux 2.6.32; add a
configure check for it and disable L2TPV3 on hosts which are
too old to provide it, rather than simply failing to compile.

The existing test whether "-lm" needs to be included or not is
insufficient as it reports false negative on Fedora20/ppc64.
This happens because sin(0.0) is a constant value which compiler
can safely throw away and therefore there is no need to add "-lm".
As the result, qemu-nbd/qemu-io/qemu-img tools cannot compile.
This adds a global variable and uses it in the test to prevent
from optimization.
