QEMU currently crashes when you try to hot-plug an "nvdimm" device
on older machine types:

The call to hotplug_handler_pre_plug() in pc_memory_pre_plug() has been
added recently before the check whether nvdimm is enabled. It should
be done after the check. And while we're at it, also check the errp
after the hotplug_handler_pre_plug(), otherwise errors are silently
ignored here.

VTD_RTADDR_RTT is dropped even by the VT-d spec, so QEMU should
probably do the same thing (after all we never really implemented it).
Since we've had a field for that in the migration stream, to keep
compatibility we need to fill the hole up.

When introducing the initial support for scalable mode we added a
new field into vmstate however we blindly migrate that field without
notice. That'll break migration no matter forward or backward.
The normal way should be that we use something like
VMSTATE_UINT32_TEST() or subsections for the new vmstate field however
for this case of vt-d we can even make it simpler because we've
already migrated all the registers and it'll be fairly simple that we
re-generate root_scalable field from the register values during post
load of the device.

If we try to use the intel-iommu device with vfio-pci devices without
caching mode enabled, we're told:
qemu-system-x86_64: We need to set caching-mode=1 for intel-iommu to enable
device assignment with IOMMU protection.
But to enable caching mode, the option is actually "caching-mode=on".

When virtio-vga was added, the intention was to only support it for
those machines where the firmware does not know about virtio-gpu,
and supported VGA legacy hardware before virtio-{gpu,vga} were
introduced.
The Kconfig switch however enabled virtio-vga for all machines with
a PCI bus, and libvirt then prefers it even on hardware where
virtio-gpu would be preferrable. At least for now, only enable
virtio-vga for PC, hppa and pSeries machines, as was the case
before Kconfig dependencies were introduced.

Previously we have per-device system memory aliases when DMAR is
disabled by the system. It will slow the system down if there are
lots of devices especially when DMAR is disabled, because each of the
aliased system address space will contain O(N) slots, and rendering
such N address spaces will be O(N^2) complexity.
This patch introduces a shared nodmar memory region and for each
device we only create an alias to the shared memory region. With the
aliasing, QEMU memory core API will be able to detect when devices are
sharing the same address space (which is the nodmar address space)
when rendering the FlatViews and the total number of FlatViews can be
dramatically reduced when there are a lot of devices.

Or if it's not possible to honor the hinted address an error is returned
instead. This makes it easier to spot the actual failure, instead of
failing later on when the caller of xen_remap_bucket realizes the
mapping has not been created at the requested address.
Also note that at least on FreeBSD using MAP_FIXED will cause mmap to
try harder to honor the passed address.

For the downstream distribution of QEMU, we want to compile without
CONFIG_PARALLEL. Commit 9157eee1b1 already moved the function
parallel_hds_isa_init() (which is still required for linking) into a file
that is included anyway, but commit bb3d5ea858 moved it
to a separate file which is only compiled again if CONFIG_PARALLEL is
set. To be able to link QEMU again without CONFIG_PARALLEL, the file
should be considered for linking for all targets that have CONFIG_ISA_BUS.
And while we're at it, add a proper comment in there with the rationale
for the separate file.

Currently we do device realization like below:
hotplug_handler_pre_plug()
dc->realize()
hotplug_handler_plug()
Before we do device realization and plug, we should allocate necessary
resources and check if memory-hotplug-support property is enabled.
At the piix4 and ich9, the memory-hotplug-support property is checked at
plug stage. This means that device has been realized and mapped into guest
address space 'pc_dimm_plug()' by the time acpi plug handler is called,
where it might fail and crash QEMU due to reaching g_assert_not_reached()
(piix4) or error_abort (ich9).
Fix it by checking if memory hotplug is enabled at pre_plug stage
where we can gracefully abort hotplug request.

Intel(R) VT-d 3.0 spec introduces scalable mode address translation to
replace extended context mode. This patch extends current emulator to
support Scalable Mode which includes root table, context table and new
pasid table format change. Now intel_iommu emulates both legacy mode
and scalable mode (with legacy-equivalent capability set).
The key points are below:
1. Extend root table operations to support both legacy mode and scalable
mode.
2. Extend context table operations to support both legacy mode and
scalable mode.
3. Add pasid tabled operations to support scalable mode.

The PC machines put firmware in ROM by default. To get it put into
flash memory (required by OVMF), you have to use -drive
if=pflash,unit=0,... and optionally -drive if=pflash,unit=1,...
Why two -drive? This permits setting up one part of the flash memory
read-only, and the other part read/write. It also makes upgrading
firmware on the host easier. Below the hood, it creates two separate
flash devices, because we were too lazy to improve our flash device
models to support sector protection.
The problem at hand is to do the same with -blockdev somehow, as one
more step towards deprecating -drive.
Mapping -drive if=none,... to -blockdev is a solved problem. With
if=T other than if=none, -drive additionally configures a block device
frontend. For non-onboard devices, that part maps to -device. Also a
solved problem. For onboard devices such as PC flash memory, we have
an unsolved problem.
This is actually an instance of a wider problem: our general device
configuration interface doesn't cover onboard devices. Instead, we have
a zoo of ad hoc interfaces that are much more limited. One of them is
-drive, which we'd rather deprecate, but can't until we have suitable
replacements for all its uses.
Sadly, I can't attack the wider problem today. So back to the narrow
problem.
My first idea was to reduce it to its solved buddy by using pluggable
instead of onboard devices for the flash memory. Workable, but it
requires some extra smarts in firmware descriptors and libvirt. Paolo
had an idea that is simpler for libvirt: keep the devices onboard, and
add machine properties for their block backends.
The implementation is less than straightforward, I'm afraid.
First, block backend properties are *qdev* properties. Machines can't
have those, as they're not devices. I could duplicate these qdev
properties as QOM properties, but I hate that.
More seriously, the properties do not belong to the machine, they
belong to the onboard flash devices. Adding them to the machine would
then require bad magic to somehow transfer them to the flash devices.
Fortunately, QOM provides the means to handle exactly this case: add
alias properties to the machine that forward to the onboard devices'
properties.
Properties need to be created in .instance_init() methods. For PC
machines, that's pc_machine_initfn(). To make alias properties work,
we need to create the onboard flash devices there, too. Requires
several bug fixes, in the previous commits. We also have to realize
the devices. More on that below.
If the user sets pflash0, firmware resides in flash memory.
pc_system_firmware_init() maps and realizes the flash devices.
Else, firmware resides in ROM. The onboard flash devices aren't used
then. pc_system_firmware_init() destroys them unrealized, along with
the alias properties.
The existing code to pick up drives defined with -drive if=pflash is
replaced by code to desugar into the machine properties.

Our pflash devices are simplistically modelled has having
"num-blocks" sectors of equal size "sector-length". Real hardware
commonly has sectors of different sizes. How our "sector-length"
property is related to the physical device's multiple sector sizes
is unclear.
Helper functions pflash_cfi01_register() and pflash_cfi02_register()
create a pflash device, set properties including "sector-length" and
"num-blocks", and realize. They take parameters @size, @sector_len
and @nb_blocs.
QOMification left parameter @size unused. Obviously, @size should
match @sector_len and @nb_blocs, i.e. size == sector_len * nb_blocs.
All callers satisfy this.
Remove @nb_blocs and compute it from @size and @sector_len.

flash.h's incomplete struct pflash_t is completed both in
pflash_cfi01.c and in pflash_cfi02.c. The complete types are
incompatible. This can hide type errors, such as passing a pflash_t
created with pflash_cfi02_register() to pflash_cfi01_get_memory().
Furthermore, POSIX reserves typedef names ending with _t.
Rename the two structs to PFlashCFI01 and PFlashCFI02.

Some multiboot images could be in the ELF format. In the current
implementation QEMU fails because we try to load these images
as a PVH image.
In order to fix this issue, we should try multiboot first (we
already check the multiboot magic header before to load it).
If it is not a multiboot image, we can try the PVH loader.

As NVDIMM support is looming for ARM and SPAPR, let's
move the acpi_nvdimm_state to the generic machine struct
instead of duplicating the same code in several machines.
It is also renamed into nvdimms_state and becomes a pointer.
nvdimm and nvdimm-persistence become generic machine options.
They become guarded by a nvdimm_supported machine class member.
We also add a description for those options.

The make_device_config.sh script is replaced by minikconf, which
is modified to support the same command line as its predecessor.
The roots of the parsing are default-configs/*.mak, Kconfig.host and
hw/Kconfig. One difference with make_device_config.sh is that all symbols
have to be defined in a Kconfig file, including those coming from the
configure script. This is the reason for the Kconfig.host file introduced
in the previous patch. Whenever a file in default-configs/*.mak used
$(...) to refer to a config-host.mak symbol, this is replaced by a
Kconfig dependency; this part must be done already in this patch
for bisectability.

When unplugging a device, at one point the device will be destroyed
via object_unparent(). This will, one the one hand, unrealize the
removed device hierarchy, and on the other hand, destroy/free the
device hierarchy.
When chaining hotplug handlers, we want to overwrite a bus hotplug
handler by the machine hotplug handler, to be able to perform
some part of the plug/unplug and to forward the calls to the bus hotplug
handler.
For now, the bus hotplug handler would trigger an object_unparent(), not
allowing us to perform some unplug action on a device after we forwarded
the call to the bus hotplug handler. The device would be gone at that
point.

So move the object_unparent() to the original caller of the unplug. For
now, keep the unrealize() at the original places of the
object_unparent(). For implicitly chained hotplug handlers (e.g. pc
code calling acpi hotplug handlers), the object_unparent() has to be
done by the outermost caller. So when calling hotplug_handler_unplug()
from inside an unplug handler, nothing is to be done.

In the long run, every unplug action should be factored out of the
unrealize() function into the unplug handler (especially for PCI). Then
we can get rid of the additonal unrealize() calls and object_unparent()
will properly unrealize the device hierarchy after the device has been
unplugged.

Migration capability is being added for pm_smbus and SMBus devices.
This change will allow backwards compatibility to be kept when
migrating back to an old qemu version. Add a bool to the machine
class tho keep smbus migration from happening. Future changes
will use this.

This patch makes the a TPM 2.0 with TIS interface available under the
HID 'MSF0101'. This is supported by Linux and also Windows now
recognizes the TPM 2.0 with TIS interface. Leave the TPM 1.2 as before.

When calculating use_iommu, we wanted to first detect whether DMAR is
enabled, then check whether PT is enabled if DMAR is enabled. However
in the current code we used "&" rather than "&&" so the ordering
requirement is lost (instead it'll be an "AND" operation). This could
introduce errors dumped in QEMU console when rebooting a guest with
both assigned device and vIOMMU, like:

Since linux commit: cf8fa920cb42 ("i386: handle an initrd in highmem (version 2)")
linux has supported initrd up to 4 GB, but the header field
ramdisk_max is still set to 2 GB to avoid "possible bootloader bugs".
When use '-kernel vmlinux -initrd initrd.cgz' to launch a VM,
the firmware(it could be linuxboot_dma.bin) helps to read initrd
contents into guest memory(below ramdisk_max) and jump to kernel.
that's similar with what bootloader does, like grub.
In addition, initrd_max is uint32_t simply because QEMU doesn't support
the 64-bit boot protocol (specifically the ext_ramdisk_image field).
Therefore here just limit initrd_max to UINT32_MAX simply as well to
allow initrd to be loaded below 4 GB.
NOTE: it's possible that linux protocol within [0x208, 0x20c]
supports up to 4 GB initrd as well.

These changes (along with corresponding Linux kernel and qboot changes)
enable a guest to be booted using the x86/HVM direct boot ABI.
This commit adds a load_elfboot() routine to pass the size and
location of the kernel entry point to qboot (which will fill in
the start_info struct information needed to to boot the guest).
Having loaded the ELF binary, load_linux() will run qboot
which continues the boot.
The address for the kernel entry point is read from an ELF Note
in the uncompressed kernel binary by a helper routine passed
to load_elf().

This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to
load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any
ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF
Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg.
If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer
is called to process the ELF note.
Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped.
The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support
which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while
loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the
boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI.

Modern AMD CPUs support NPT and NRIPSAVE features and KVM exposes these
when present. NRIPSAVE apeared somewhere in Opteron_G3 lifetime (e.g.
QuadCore AMD Opteron 2378 has is but QuadCore AMD Opteron HE 2344 doesn't),
NPT was introduced a bit earlier.
Add the FEAT_SVM leaf to Opteron_G4/G5 and EPYC/EPYC-IBPB cpu models.

The TPM Physical Presence interface consists of an ACPI part, a shared
memory part, and code in the firmware. Users can send messages to the
firmware by writing a code into the shared memory through invoking the
ACPI code. When a reboot happens, the firmware looks for the code and
acts on it by sending sequences of commands to the TPM.
This patch adds the ACPI code. It is similar to the one in EDK2 but doesn't
assume that SMIs are necessary to use. It uses a similar datastructure for
the shared memory as EDK2 does so that EDK2 and SeaBIOS could both make use
of it. I extended the shared memory data structure with an array of 256
bytes, one for each code that could be implemented. The array contains
flags describing the individual codes. This decouples the ACPI implementation
from the firmware implementation.

To avoid having to hard code the base address of the PPI virtual
memory device we introduce a fw_cfg file etc/tpm/config that holds the
base address of the PPI device, the version of the PPI interface and
the version of the attached TPM.

MPX support is being phased out by Intel; GCC has dropped it, Linux
is also going to do that. Even though KVM will have special code
to support MPX after the kernel proper stops enabling it in XCR0,
we probably also want to deprecate that in a few years. As a start,
do not enable it by default for any named CPU model starting with
the 4.0 machine types; this include Skylake, Icelake and Cascadelake.

This patch adds the basic boilerplate for a 'XenBus' object that will act
as a parent to 'XenDevice' PV backends.
A new 'XenBridge' object is also added to connect XenBus to the system bus.
The XenBus object is instantiated by a new xen_bus_init() function called
from the same sites as the legacy xen_be_init() function.
Subsequent patches will flesh-out the functionality of these objects.

Rather than attempting to convert the existing backend infrastructure to
be QOM compliant (which would be hard to do in an incremental fashion),
subsequent patches will introduce a completely new framework for Xen PV
backends. Hence it is necessary to re-name parts of existing code to avoid
name clashes. The re-named 'legacy' infrastructure will be removed once all
backends have been ported to the new framework.
This patch is purely cosmetic. No functional change.

them to spaces so that we don't confuse people.
disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported
from other projects and probably should be exempted from the check.

Most list head structs need not be given a name. In most cases the
name is given just in case one is going to use QTAILQ_LAST, QTAILQ_PREV
or reverse iteration, but this does not apply to lists of other kinds,
and even for QTAILQ in practice this is only rarely needed. In addition,
we will soon reimplement those macros completely so that they do not
need a name for the head struct. So clean up everything, not giving a
name except in the rare case where it is necessary.

Instead of verbose arrays with 4 lines for each entry, make each
entry take only one line. This makes long arrays that couldn't
fit in the screen become short and readable.

stringify() is useful when we need to use macros in compat_props
(like when we set virtio-baloon-pci.class=PCI_CLASS_MEMORY_RAM at
pc_i440fx_1_0_machine_options()), but it is pointless when we are
already providing a number literal.
Replace stringify() with string literals when appropriate.

This function is only needed when Q35 is in use. Moving it to
the same file that uses it lets you disable the entire USB
subsystem in x86_64-softmmu.mak; of course doing that will
cause -usb to break horribly, but one thing at a time.

When the user didn't specify "intremap" for the IOMMU device, we turn
it on by default if it is supported. This will turn IR on for the
default Q35 platform as long as the IOMMU device is specified on new
kernels.

Switch the intr_supported variable from a boolean to OnOffAuto type so
that we can know whether the user specified it or not. With that
we'll have a chance to help the user to choose more wisely where
possible. Introduce x86_iommu_ir_supported() to mask these changes.
No functional change at all.

Starting from QEMU 4.0, let's specify "split" as the default value for
kernel-irqchip.
So for QEMU>=4.0 we'll have: allowed=Y,required=N,split=Y
for QEMU<=3.1 we'll have: allowed=Y,required=N,split=N
(omitting all the "kernel_irqchip_" prefix)
Note that this will let the default q35 machine type to depend on
Linux version 4.4 or newer because that's where split irqchip is
introduced in kernel. But it's fine since we're boosting supported
Linux version for QEMU 4.0 to around Linux 4.5. For more information

AcpiRsdpDescriptor describes revision 2 RSDP table so using sizeof(*rsdp)
for checksum calculation isn't correct since we are adding extra 16 bytes.
But acpi_data_push() zeroes out table, so just by luck we are summing up
exta zeros which still yelds correct checksum.
Fix it up by explicitly stating table size instead of using
pointer arithmetics on stucture.
PS:
Extra 16 bytes are still wasted, but droping them will break migration
for machines older than 2.3 due to size mismatch, for 2.3 and older it's
not an issue since they are using resizable memory regions (a1666142d)
for ACPI blobs. So keep wasting memory to avoid breaking old machines.

Support DMA read/write draining should be easy for existing VT-d
emulation since the emulation itself does not have any request queue
there so we don't need to do anything to flush the un-commited queue.
What we need to do is to declare the support.
These capabilities are required to pass Windows SVVP test program. It
is verified that when with parameters "x-aw-bits=48,caching-mode=off"
we can pass the Windows SVVP test with this patch applied. Otherwise
we'll fail with:
IOMMU[0] - DWD (DMA write draining) not supported
IOMMU[0] - DWD (DMA read draining) not supported
Segment 0 has no DMA remapping capable IOMMU units
However since these bits are not declared support for QEMU<=3.1, we'll
need a compatibility bit for it and we turn this on by default only
for QEMU>=4.0.

When issuing the qmp/hmp 'system_wakeup' command, what happens in a
nutshell is:
- qmp_system_wakeup_request set runstate to RUNNING, sets a wakeup_reason
and notify the event
- in the main_loop, all vcpus are paused, a system reset is issued, all
subscribers of wakeup_notifiers receives a notification, vcpus are then
resumed and the wake up QAPI event is fired
Note that this procedure alone doesn't ensure that the guest will awake
from SUSPENDED state - the subscribers of the wake up event must take
action to resume the guest, otherwise the guest will simply reboot. At
this moment, only the ACPI machines via acpi_pm1_cnt_init and xen_hvm_init
have wake-up from suspend support.
However, only the presence of 'system_wakeup' is required for QGA to
support 'guest-suspend-ram' and 'guest-suspend-hybrid' at this moment.
This means that the user/management will expect to suspend the guest using
one of those suspend commands and then resume execution using system_wakeup,
regardless of the support offered in system_wakeup in the first place.
This patch creates a new API called query-current-machine [1], that holds
a new flag called 'wakeup-suspend-support' that indicates if the guest
supports wake up from suspend via system_wakeup. The machine is considered
to implement wake-up support if a call to a new 'qemu_register_wakeup_support'
is made during its init, as it is now being done inside acpi_pm1_cnt_init

With this extra tool, management can avoid situations where a guest
that does not have proper suspend/wake capabilities ends up in
inconsistent state (e.g.
https://github.com/open-power-host-os/qemu/issues/31).
[1] the decision of creating the query-current-machine API is based
on discussions in the QEMU mailing list where it was decided that
query-target wasn't a proper place to store the wake-up flag, neither
was query-machines because this isn't a static property of the
machine object. This new API can then be used to store other
dynamic machine properties that are scattered around the code

Now that amd-iommu support interrupt remapping, enable the GASup in IVRS
table and GASup in extended feature register to indicate that IOMMU
support guest virtual APIC mode. GASup provides option to guest OS to
make use of 128-bit IRTE.
Note that the GAMSup is set to zero to indicate that amd-iommu does not
support guest virtual APIC mode (aka AVIC) which would be used for the
nested VMs.

Currently, the amdvi_validate_dte() assumes that a valid DTE will
always have V=1. This is not true. The V=1 means that bit[127:1] are
valid. A valid DTE can have IV=1 and V=0 (i.e address translation
disabled and interrupt remapping enabled)
Remove the V=1 check from amdvi_validate_dte(), make the caller
responsible to check for V or IV bits.
This also fixes a bug in existing code that when error is
detected during the translation we'll fail the translation
instead of assuming a passthrough mode.

The vtd_generate_msi_message() in intel-iommu is used to construct a MSI
Message from IRQ. A similar function will be needed when we add interrupt
remapping support in amd-iommu. Moving the function in common file to
avoid the code duplication. Rename it to x86_iommu_irq_to_msi_message().
There is no logic changes in the code flow.

We should handle VTD_FR_CONTEXT_ENTRY_P properly when synchronizing
shadow page tables. Having invalid context entry there is perfectly
valid when we move a device out of an existing domain. When that
happens, instead of posting an error we invalidate the whole region.
Without this patch, QEMU will crash if we do these steps:
(1) start QEMU with VT-d IOMMU and two 10G NICs (ixgbe)
(2) bind the NICs with vfio-pci in the guest
(3) start testpmd with the NICs applied
(4) stop testpmd
(5) rebind the NIC back to ixgbe kernel driver
The patch should fix it.

There are two callers for vtd_sync_shadow_page_table_range(): one
provided a valid context entry and one not. Move that fetching
operation into the caller vtd_sync_shadow_page_table() where we need to
fetch the context entry.
Meanwhile, remove the error_report_once() directly since we're already
tracing all the error cases in the previous call. Instead, return error
number back to caller. This will not change anything functional since
callers are dropping it after all.
We do this move majorly because we want to do something more later in
vtd_sync_shadow_page_table().

QEMU is not handling the global DMAR switch well, especially when from
"on" to "off".
Let's first take the example of system reset.
Assuming that a guest has IOMMU enabled. When it reboots, we will drop
all the existing DMAR mappings to handle the system reset, however we'll
still keep the existing memory layouts which has the IOMMU memory region
enabled. So after the reboot and before the kernel reloads again, there
will be no mapping at all for the host device. That's problematic since
any software (for example, SeaBIOS) that runs earlier than the kernel
after the reboot will assume the IOMMU is disabled, so any DMA from the
software will fail.
For example, a guest that boots on an assigned NVMe device might fail to
find the boot device after a system reboot/reset and we'll be able to
observe SeaBIOS errors if we capture the debugging log:
WARNING - Timeout at nvme_wait:144!
Meanwhile, we should see DMAR errors on the host of that NVMe device.
It's the DMA fault that caused a NVMe driver timeout.
The correct fix should be that we do proper switching of device DMA
address spaces when system resets, which will setup correct memory
regions and notify the backend of the devices. This might not affect
much on non-assigned devices since QEMU VT-d emulation will assume a
default passthrough mapping if DMAR is not enabled in the GCMD
register (please refer to vtd_iommu_translate). However that's required
for an assigned devices, since that'll rebuild the correct GPA to HPA
mapping that is needed for any DMA operation during guest bootstrap.
Besides the system reset, we have some other places that might change
the global DMAR status and we'd better do the same thing there. For
example, when we change the state of GCMD register, or the DMAR root
pointer. Do the same refresh for all these places. For these two
places we'll also need to explicitly invalidate the context entry cache
and iotlb cache.

10efd7e108 "pc: acpi: fix memory hotplug regression by reducing stub SRAT entry size"
attemped to fix hotplug regression introduced by
848a1cc1e "hw/acpi-build: build SRAT memory affinity structures for DIMM devices"
fixed issue for Windows/3.0+ linux kernels, however it regressed 2.6 based
kernels (RHEL6) to the point where guest might crash at boot.
Reason is that 2.6 kernel discards SRAT table due too small last entry
which down the road leads to crashes. Hack I've tried in 10efd7e108 is also
not ACPI spec compliant according to which whole possible RAM should be
described in SRAT. Revert 10efd7e108 to fix regression for 2.6 based kernels.
With 10efd7e108 reverted, I've also tried splitting SRAT table statically
in different ways %/node and %/slot but Windows still fails to online
2nd pc-dimm hot-plugged into node 0 (as described in 10efd7e108) and
sometimes even coldplugged pc-dimms where affected with static SRAT
partitioning.
The only known so far way where Windows stays happy is when we have 1
SRAT entry in the last node covering all hotplug area.
Revert 848a1cc1e until we come up with a way to avoid regression
on Windows with hotplug area split in several entries.
Tested this with 2.6/3.0 based kernels (RHEL6/7) and WS20[08/12/12R2/16]).

Replace existing trace_vtd_err() with error_report_once() then stderr
will capture something if any of the error happens, meanwhile we don't
suffer from any DDOS. Then remove the trace point. Since at it,

We can assign and verify the address before realizing and trying to plug.
reading/writing the address property should never fail for DIMMs, so let's
reduce error handling a bit by using &error_abort. Getting access to the
memory region now might however fail. So forward errors from
get_memory_region() properly.
As all memory devices should use the alignment of the underlying memory
region for guest physical address asignment, do detection of the
alignment in pc_dimm_pre_plug(), but allow pc.c to overwrite the
alignment for compatibility handling.

All applicable memory regions always have an alignment > 0. All memory
backends result in file_ram_alloc() or qemu_anon_ram_alloc() getting
called, setting the alignment to > 0.
So a PCDIMM memory region always has an alignment > 0. NVDIMM copy the
alignment of the original memory memory region into the handcrafted memory
region that will be used at this place.
So the check for 0 can be dropped and we can reduce the special
handling.
Dropping this check makes factoring out of alignment handling easier as
compat handling only has to look at pcmc->enforce_aligned_dimm and not
care about the alignment of the memory region.

The multiboot code parses the initrd_filename twice, first to count how
many entries there are, and second to process each entry. This changes
the first loop to store the parse module names in a list, and the second
loop can now use these names. This avoids having to pass NULL to the
get_opt_value() method which means it can safely assume a non-NULL param.

Hyper-V identifies vCPUs by Virtual Processor (VP) index which can be
queried by the guest via HV_X64_MSR_VP_INDEX msr. It is defined by the
spec as a sequential number which can't exceed the maximum number of
vCPUs per VM.
It has to be owned by QEMU in order to preserve it across migration.
However, the initial implementation in KVM didn't allow to set this
msr, and KVM used its own notion of VP index. Fortunately, the way
vCPUs are created in QEMU/KVM makes it likely that the KVM value is
equal to QEMU cpu_index.
So choose cpu_index as the value for vp_index, and push that to KVM on
kernels that support setting the msr. On older ones that don't, query
the kernel value and assert that it's in sync with QEMU.
Besides, since handling errors from vCPU init at hotplug time is
impossible, disable vCPU hotplug.
This patch also introduces accessor functions to encapsulate the mapping
between a vCPU and its vp_index.
