6915f563ed We don't want -Dm68851 in CFLAGS because (a) opcode/m68k.h declares 
m68851 as a member of enum m68k_architecture, and (b) opcode/m68k.h and
config/tc-m68k.c automatically include 68851 support unless you define
NO_68851.  tc-m68851.h is not used.

2cac5ef6e0 Handle `.type' directives (shortly to be generated by gcc) that will be 
conveyed to the linker in the `n_other' (in case a.out format is produced)
fields of the objects symbol table.

Also handle `.size' directives of the form `.size symbol1-symbol2' in
addition to absolute expressions.

7895f44731 Fixed bug in tc-i386.c which in rare but unpredictable circumstances would 
screw up PC relative offsets to _GLOBAL_SYMBOL_TABLE_ (caused by me not quite
understanding the inner workings of this phenomenon called `obstack').
Thanks to Thomas Eberhardt for creating rare and unpredictable circumstances.

Changes to obj-aout.c to handle non-absolute `.size' expressions and to set
the `n_other' field of symbols to the symbols type, as given by `.type'
directives.

1fffdc0cb5 Remove /usr/include/g++/* before installing headers --- it may contain 
obsolete headers that have to be removed.
Don't install "compatibility" headers --- our headers are C++ safe and
GNU's headers don't match our library.

e5b3eedefb Eleminate duplicate inclusion of shared objects (libgcc!). 
Start using auxiliary information (using `n_other') to tackle aliasing of
function addresses and direct function calls in shared objects.
NOTE: currently protected by `#ifdef EXPERIMENTAL'.

79c47ced71 Both compress and gzip installed themselves as "zcat". I've changed the 
makefiles so only gzip is installed as zcat (and now uncompress) because
gzip is faster than compress and it is able to detect corrupted files.

1f233ade26 ok, just revamp the entire 'config.status' thing. config.status itself 
is no longer necessary.  all of the headers are built independently,

d7607730b7 Fixed bug that was reported (with patch) on gnu.utils.bug. 
Immediate operands of the pushw instruction were being output as 32
bits, rather than the 16 bits they were supposed to be.

8d7d3883e3 Fix C++ dependencies for good. `make depend' is now done in two passes--one 
of C files and one for C++ files.  No need to specify `-+' in your Makefile,
as it is now done automatically.

caf5450712 Implement ffs() in a different way. This is faster on the 386 and 486, but 
slower on the 586 than the previous method.
So much for the superoptimizer.  It has been unable to come up with a better
sequence than I did.  B-)

b0418d8861 Fix the ffs() inlining bug. Note that this is normally done in the machine 
description; why we are using pregenerated insn-* is a mystery to me and
will cause problems for people doing ports.
Note that this sequence of instructions may not be optimal for 386 and 486
class processors (though it is for the Pentium).  I am working with the
person doing the GNU superoptimizer to try to find a better sequence.

64142a4b6a Moved diff3.c and sdiff.c back into the diff directory. The makefiles 
for diff3 and sdiff access them through the .PATH: construct.  This
allows all the source to be contained in the diff directory, and
should make it a little bit easier to upgrade to newer versions of diff.

9a813e49aa added undocumented +force and +only options, for creating and 
installing distributions.

+force unlinks files before extracting them, +only adds *only*
the specified files to an archive (i.e. doesn't descend into
subdirectories).

d384beb878 fixed "make obj" for cases when sources not in /usr/src/... 
if sources not there, it now mkdirs obj, but some trickery
is necessary, to avoid deleting cwd.
