Memset vhost_dev to zero in the vhost_dev_cleanup function.
This causes dev.vqs to be NULL, so that
vqs does not free up space when calling the g_free function.
This will result in a memory leak. But you can't release vqs
directly in the vhost_dev_cleanup function, because vhost_net
will also call this function, and vhost_net's vqs is assigned by array.
In order to solve this problem, we first save the pointer of vqs,
and release the space of vqs after vhost_dev_cleanup is called.

The xen-block dataplane currently allocates memory to hold the data for
each request as that request is used, and frees it afterwards. Because
it requires page-aligned blocks, this interacts poorly with non-page-
aligned allocations and balloons the heap.
Instead, allocate the maximum possible buffer size required for the
protocol, which is BLKIF_MAX_SEGMENTS_PER_REQUEST (currently 11) pages
when the request structure is created, and keep that buffer until it is
destroyed. Since the requests are re-used via a free list, this should
actually improve memory usage.

If the I/O ring is full, the guest cannot send any more requests
until some responses are sent. Only sending all available responses
just before checking for new work does not leave much time for the
guest to supply new work, so this will cause stalls if the ring gets
full. Also, not completing reads as soon as possible adds latency
to the guest.
To alleviate that, complete IO requests as soon as they come back.
xen_block_send_response() already returns a value indicating whether
a notify should be sent, which is all the batching we need.

When I/O consists of many small requests, performance is improved by

introduces a check to start batching I/O requests via blk_io_plug()/

This patch adds create and destroy function for XenBlockDevice-s so that
they can be created automatically when the Xen toolstack instantiates a new
PV backend via xenstore. When the XenBlockDevice is created this way it is
also necessary to create a 'drive' which matches the configuration that the
Xen toolstack has written into xenstore. This is done by formulating the
parameters necessary for each 'blockdev' layer of the drive and then using
qmp_blockdev_add() to create the layers. Also, for compatibility with the
legacy 'xen_disk' implementation, an iothread is automatically created for
the new XenBlockDevice. This, like the driver layers, will be destroyed
after the XenBlockDevice is unrealized.
The legacy backend scan for 'qdisk' is removed by this patch, which makes
the 'xen_disk' code is redundant. The code will be removed by a subsequent

A Xen PV frontend communicates its state to the PV backend by writing to
the 'state' key in the frontend area in xenstore. It is therefore
necessary for a XenDevice implementation to be notified whenever the
value of this key changes.
This patch adds code to do this as follows:
- an 'fd handler' is registered on the libxenstore handle which will be
triggered whenever a 'watch' event occurs
- primitives are added to xen-bus-helper to add or remove watch events
- a list of Notifier objects is added to XenBus to provide a mechanism
to call the appropriate 'watch handler' when its associated event
occurs
The xen-block implementation is extended with a 'frontend_changed' method,
which calls as-yet stub 'connect' and 'disconnect' functions when the
relevant frontend state transitions occur. A subsequent patch will supply
a full implementation for these functions.

'printf' and 'scanf' nodes therein. The main xen-bus code then uses
these primitives [1] to initialize and destroy the frontend and backend
areas for a XenDevice during realize and unrealize respectively.
The 'xen-block' implementation is extended with a 'get_name' method that
returns the VBD number. This number is required to 'name' the xenstore
areas.
NOTE: An exit handler is also added to make sure the xenstore areas are
cleaned up if QEMU terminates without devices being unrealized.

This patch adds new XenDevice-s: 'xen-disk' and 'xen-cdrom', both derived
from a common 'xen-block' parent type. These will eventually replace the
'xen_disk' (note the underscore rather than hyphen) legacy PV backend but
it is illustrative to build up the implementation incrementally, along with
the XenBus/XenDevice framework. Subsequent patches will therefore add to
these devices' implementation as new features are added to the framework.
After this patch has been applied it is possible to instantiate new
'xen-disk' or 'xen-cdrom' devices with a single 'vdev' parameter, which
accepts values adhering to the Xen VBD naming scheme [1]. For example, a
command-line instantiation of a xen-disk can be done with an argument
similar to the following:
-device xen-disk,vdev=hda
The implementation of the vdev parameter formulates the appropriate VBD
number for use in the PV protocol.

The code had asserted an interrupt every time it was requested to check
for new completion queue entries. This can result in spurious interrupts
seen by the guest OS.
Fix this by asserting an interrupt only if there are un-acknowledged
completion queue entries available.

When the submission and completion queues are being torn down
the IRQ will be asserted for the completion queue when the
submsission queue is deleted. Then when the completion queue
is deleted it stays asserted. Thus, on systems that do
not use MSI, no further interrupts can be triggered on the host.
Linux sees this as a long delay when unbinding the nvme device.
Eventually the interrupt timeout occurs and it continues.
To fix this we ensure we deassert the IRQ for a CQ when it is
deleted.

The CMB is marked as DEVICE_LITTLE_ENDIAN, so the data must be
read/written as if it was little-endian output (in the case of

in nvme.c).

Because the CMB BAR has a min_access_size of 2, if you read the last
byte it will try to memcpy *2* bytes from n->cmbuf, causing an off-by-one
error. This is CVE-2018-16847.
Another way to fix this might be to register the CMB as a RAM memory
region, which would also be more efficient. However, that might be a
change for big-endian machines; I didn't think this through and I don't
know how real hardware works. Add a basic testcase for the CMB in case
somebody does this change later on.

Commit c8a35f1cf0 "fdc: use IsaDma interface instead of global DMA_*
functions" accidentally introduced a segfault in fdctrl_stop_transfer() for
non-DMA transfers.
If fdctrl->dma_chann has not been configured then the fdctrl->dma interface
reference isn't initialised during isabus_fdc_realize(). Unfortunately
fdctrl_stop_transfer() unconditionally references the DMA interface when
finishing the transfer causing a NULL pointer dereference.
Fix the issue by adding a check in fdctrl_stop_transfer() so that the DMA
interface reference and release method is only invoked if fdctrl->dma_chann
has been set.
(This issue was discovered by Martin testing a recent change in the NetBSD
installer under qemu-system-sparc)

Read only feature shouldn't be negotiable, because if the
backend device reported Read only feature supported, QEMU
host driver shouldn't change backend's RO attribute. While

When multi queue is enabled e.g. for a virtio-net device,
each queue pair will have a vhost_dev, and the only thing
shared between vhost devs currently is the chardev. This
patch introduces a vhost-user state structure which will

Certain functions in xen_disk are called with a pointer to xendev
(struct XenDevice *). They then use container_of() to acces the surrounding
blkdev (struct XenBlkDev) but then in various places use &blkdev->xendev
when use of the original xendev pointer is shorter to express and clearly
equivalent.
This patch is a purely cosmetic patch which makes sure there is a xendev
pointer on stack for any function where the pointer is need on multiple
occasions modified those functions to use it consistently.

Commit 5b2ffbe4d9 ("virtio-blk: dataplane:
notify guest as a batch") deferred guest notification to a BH in order
batch notifications, with purpose of avoiding flooding the guest with
interruptions.
This optimization came with a cost. The average latency perceived in the
guest is increased by a few microseconds, but also when multiple IO
operations finish at the same time, the guest won't be notified until
all completions from each operation has been run. On the contrary,
virtio-scsi issues the notification at the end of each completion.
On the other hand, nowadays we have the EVENT_IDX feature that allows a
better coordination between QEMU and the Guest OS to avoid sending
unnecessary interruptions.
With this change, virtio-blk/dataplane only batches notifications if the
EVENT_IDX feature is not present.

In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in
qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100
objects.
The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h,
qapi-types.h. Each of these headers still includes all its shards.
Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need.
To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now
recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects. The next commit will
improve it further.

SystemTap's dtrace(1) produces the following warning when it encounters
"char const" instead of "const char":
Warning: /usr/bin/dtrace:trace-dtrace-root.dtrace:66: syntax error near:
probe flatview_destroy_rcu
Warning: Proceeding as if --no-pyparsing was given.
This is a limitation in current SystemTap releases. I have sent a patch
upstream to accept "char const" since it is valid C:
https://sourceware.org/ml/systemtap/2018-q1/msg00017.html
In QEMU we still wish to avoid warnings in the current SystemTap
release. It's simple enough to replace "char const" with "const char".
I'm not changing the documentation or implementing checks to prevent
this from occurring again in the future. The next release of SystemTap
will hopefully resolve this issue.

This commit introduces a new vhost-user device for block, it uses a
chardev to connect with the backend, same with Qemu virito-blk device,
Guest OS still uses the virtio-blk frontend driver.
To use it, start QEMU with command line like this:
qemu-system-x86_64 \
-chardev socket,id=char0,path=/path/vhost.socket \
-device vhost-user-blk-pci,chardev=char0,num-queues=2, \
bootindex=2... \
Users can use different parameters for `num-queues` and `bootindex`.
Different with exist Qemu virtio-blk host device, it makes more easy

The point of writing a macro embedded in a 'do { ... } while (0)'
loop (particularly if the macro has multiple statements or would
otherwise end with an 'if' statement) is so that the macro can be
used as a drop-in statement with the caller supplying the
trailing ';'. Although our coding style frowns on brace-less 'if':
if (cond)
statement;
else
something else;
that is the classic case where failure to use do/while(0) wrapping
would cause the 'else' to pair with any embedded 'if' in the macro
rather than the intended outer 'if'. But conversely, if the macro
includes an embedded ';', then the same brace-less coding style
would now have two statements, making the 'else' a syntax error
rather than pairing with the outer 'if'. Thus, even though our
coding style with required braces is not impacted, ending a macro
with ';' makes our code harder to port to projects that use
brace-less styles.
The change should have no semantic impact. I was not able to
fully compile-test all of the changes (as some of them are
examples of the ugly bit-rotting debug print statements that are
completely elided by default, and I didn't want to recompile
with the necessary -D witnesses - cleaning those up is left as a
bite-sized task for another day); I did, however, audit that for
all files touched, all callers of the changed macros DID supply
a trailing ';' at the callsite, and did not appear to be used
as part of a brace-less conditional.

When the function no success value to transmit, it usually make the

it means that the extra local_err variable and error_propagate() will
be needed. It leads to cumbersome code, therefore, transmit success/

So fix the return type of blkconf_apply_backend_options(),

Trying to call xengnttab_set_max_grants() with the same file handle
might fail on some kernels, as this operation is allowed only once.
This is a problem for the qdisk backend as blk_connect() can be
called multiple times for a domain, e.g. in case grub-xen is being
used to boot it.
So instead of letting the generic backend code open the gnttab device
do it in blk_connect() and close it again in blk_disconnect.

The number of queues that should be return by the admin command should:
1) Only mention the number of non-admin queues.
2) It is zero-based, meaning that '0 == one non-admin queue',
'1 == two non-admin queues', and so forth.
Because our `num_queues` means the number of queues _plus_ the admin
queue, then the right calculation for the number returned from the admin
command is `num_queues - 2`, combining the two requirements mentioned.
The issue was discovered by reducing num_queues from 64 to 8 and running
a Linux VM with an SMP parameter larger than that (e.g. 22). It tries to
utilize all queues, and therefore fails with an invalid queue number
when trying to queue I/Os on the last queue.

Currently the offending one is virtio-scsi event queue, whose handler

Fix this by reporting actual progress from virtio queue aio handlers.

For configurations of the pflash_cfi01 device which set it up with a
device-width not equal to the width (ie where we are emulating
multiple narrow flash devices wired up in parallel), we were giving
incorrect values in the CFI data table:
(1) the sector length entry should specify the sector length for a
single device, not the length for the overall collection of
devices
(2) the number of blocks per device must not be divided by the
number of devices because the resulting device size would not
match the overall size
(3) this then means that the overall write block size must be
modified depending on the number of devices because the entry is
per device and when the guest writes into the flash it
calculates the write size by using the CFI entry (write size
per device) multiplied by the number of chips.
(It would alternatively be possible to modify the write
block size in the CFI table (currently hardcoded at 2048) and
leave the overall write block size alone.)
This commit corrects these bugs, and adds a hw-compat property
to retain the old behaviour on 2.8 and earlier versions. (The
only board we have which uses this sort of flash config and
has machine versioning is the "virt" board -- the PC uses a
single flash device and so behaviour is unaffected whether
using old-multiple-chip-handling or not.)
Here is a configuration example from the vexpress board:
VEXPRESS_FLASH_SIZE = 64M
VEXPRESS_FLASH_SECT_SIZE 256K
num-blocks = VEXPRESS_FLASH_SIZE / VEXPRESS_FLASH_SECT_SIZE = 256
sector-length = 256K
width = 4
device-width = 2
The code will fill the CFI entry with the following entries:
num-blocks = 256
sector-length = 128K
writeblock_size = 2048
This results in two chips, each with 256 * 128K = 32M device size and
a write block size of 2048.
A sector erase will be sent to both chips, thus 256K must be erased.
When the guest sends a block write command, it will write 4096 bytes
data at once (2048 per device).

- query and use this address space during virtio device guest memory

The patch is to fix the confusing assert fail message caused by
un-initialized device structure (from bite sized tasks).
The bug can be reproduced by
./qemu-system-x86_64 -nographic -device cfi.pflash01
The CFI hardware is dynamically loaded by QOM realizing mechanism,
however the realizing function in pflash_cfi01_realize function
requires the device being initialized manually before calling, like
./qemu-system-x86_64 -nographic
-device cfi.pflash01,num-blocks=1024,sector-length=4096,name=testcard
Once the initializing parameters are left off in the command, it will
leave the device structure not initialized, which makes
pflash_cfi01_realize try to realize a zero-volume card, causing
/mnt/EXT_volume/projects/qemu/qemu-dev/exec.c:1378:
find_ram_offset: Assertion `size != 0\' failed.
Through my test, at least the flash device's block-number, sector-length
and its name is needed for pflash_cfi01_realize to behave correctly. So
I think the new asserts are needed to hint the QEMU user to specify
the device's parameters correctly.

Dataplane has been omitting forever the step of setting ISR when
an interrupt is raised. This caused little breakage, because the
specification actually says that ISR may not be updated in MSI mode.
Some versions of the Windows drivers however didn't clear MSI mode
correctly, and proceeded using polling mode (using ISR, not the used
ring index!) for crashdump and hibernation. If it were just crashdump
and hibernation it would not be a big deal, but recent releases of
Windows do not really shut down, but rather log out and hibernate to
make the next startup faster. Hence, this manifested as a more serious
hang during shutdown with e.g. Windows 8.1 and virtio-win 1.8.0 RPMs.
Newer versions fixed this, while older versions do not use MSI at all.
The failure has always been there for virtio dataplane, but it became
visible after commits 9ffe337 ("virtio-blk: always use dataplane path
if ioeventfd is active", 2016-10-30) and ad07cd6 ("virtio-scsi: always
use dataplane path if ioeventfd is active", 2016-10-30) made virtio-blk
and virtio-scsi always use the dataplane code under KVM. The good news
therefore is that it was not a bug in the patches---they were doing
exactly what they were meant for, i.e. shake out remaining dataplane bugs.
The fix is not hard, so it's worth arranging for the broken drivers.
The virtio_should_notify+event_notifier_set pair that is common to
virtio-blk and virtio-scsi dataplane is replaced with a new public
function virtio_notify_irqfd that also sets ISR. The irqfd emulation
code now need not set ISR anymore, so virtio_irq is removed.

This makes the FloppyDrive qdev object actually useful: Now that it has
all properties that don't belong to the controller, you can actually
use '-device floppy' and get a working result.
Command line semantics is consistent with CD-ROM drives: By default you
get a single empty floppy drive. You can override it with -drive and
using the same index, but if you use -drive to add a floppy to a
different index, you get both of them. However, as soon as you use any
'-device floppy', even to a different slot, the default drive is
disabled.
Using '-device floppy' without specifying the unit will choose the first
free slot on the controller.

In the case of virtio_blk_handle_vq(), we detach the request from the

Almost all block devices are qdevified by now. This allows us to go back
from the BlockBackend to the DeviceState. xen_disk is the last device
that is missing. We'll remember in the BlockBackend if a xen_disk is
attached and can then disable any features that require going from a BB
to the DeviceState.
While at it, clearly mark the function used by xen_disk as legacy even

Before grant copy operation local buffers must be allocated what is
done by calling ioreq_init_copy_buffers. For the 'read' operation,
first, the qemu device invokes the read operation on local buffers
and on the completion grant copy is called and buffers are freed.
For the 'write' operation grant copy is performed before invoking
write by qemu device.
A new value 'feature_grant_copy' is added to recognize when the
grant copy operation is supported by a guest.

Sector-based limits are awkward to think about; in our on-going
quest to move to byte-based interfaces, convert max_transfer_length
and opt_transfer_length. Rename them (dropping the _length suffix)
so that the compiler will help us catch the change in semantics
across any rebased code, and improve the documentation. Use unsigned
values, so that we don't have to worry about negative values and
so that bit-twiddling is easier; however, we are still constrained
by 2^31 of signed int in most APIs.
When a value comes from an external source (iscsi and raw-posix),
sanitize the results to ensure that opt_transfer is a power of 2.

s->cur_addr can be made to point outside s->storage, either by
writing a value >= 128 to s->ear (because s->ear * MAX_3BYTES_SIZE

In case the word size of the domU and qemu running the qdisk backend
differ BLKIF_OP_DISCARD will not work reliably, as the request
structure in the ring have different layouts for different word size.
Correct this by copying the request structure in case of different
word size element by element in the BLKIF_OP_DISCARD case, too.

qemu/osdep.h checks whether MAP_ANONYMOUS is defined, but this check
is bogus without a previous inclusion of sys/mman.h. Include it in
sysemu/os-posix.h and remove it from everywhere else.

Commit f9e98e5d7a ("xen/blkif: Avoid double access to
src->nr_segments") didn't go far enough: src->operation is also being
used twice. And nothing was done to prevent the compiler from using the
source side of the copy done by blk_get_request() (granted that's very
unlikely).
Move the barrier()s up, and add another one to blk_get_request().
Note that for completing XSA-155, the barrier() getting added to
blk_get_request() would suffice, and hence the changes to xen_blkif.h
are more like just cleanup. And since, as said, the unpatched code
getting compiled to something vulnerable is very unlikely (and not
observed in practice), this isn't being viewed as a new security issue.
