61ad65d0f0 cpu: Introduce CPU model deprecation API
Implement the ability of marking some versions deprecated. When
that CPU model is chosen, print a warning.  The warning message
can be customized, e.g. suggesting an alternative CPU model to be
used instead.

The deprecation message will be printed by x86_cpu_list_entry(),
e.g. '-cpu help'.

QMP command 'query-cpu-definitions' will return a bool value
indicating the deprecation status.

35ac5dfbca target/i386: Remove core_id assert check in CPUID 0x8000001E
With x2apic enabled, configurations can have more that 255 cores.
Noticed the device add test is hitting an assert when during cpu
hotplug with core_id > 255. This is due to assert check in the
CPUID 0x8000001E.

Remove the assert check and fix the problem.

2c82e8df4d ppc: Add a return value to ppc_set_compat() and ppc_set_compat_all()
As recommended in "qapi/error.h", indicate success / failure with a
return value. Since ppc_set_compat() is called from a VMState handler,
let's make it an int so that it propagates any negative errno returned
by kvmppc_set_compat(). Do the same for ppc_set_compat_all() for
consistency, even if it isn't called in a context where a negative errno
is required on failure.

This will allow to simplify error handling in the callers.

d1b6b70175 target/arm: Make '-cpu max' have a 48-bit PA
QEMU supports a 48-bit physical address range, but we don't currently
expose it in the '-cpu max' ID registers (you get the same range as
Cortex-A57, which is 44 bits).

Set the ID_AA64MMFR0.PARange field to indicate 48 bits.

281a3c330e target/arm/kvm: Make uncalled stubs explicitly unreachable
When we compile without KVM support !defined(CONFIG_KVM) we generate
stubs for functions that the linker will still encounter. Sometimes
these stubs can be executed safely and are placed in paths where they
get executed with or without KVM. Other functions should never be
called without KVM. Those functions should be guarded by kvm_enabled(),
but should also be robust to refactoring mistakes. Putting a
g_assert_not_reached() in the function should help. Additionally,
the g_assert_not_reached() calls may actually help the linker remove
some code.

We remove the stubs for kvm_arm_get/put_virtual_time(), as they aren't
necessary at all - the only caller is in kvm.c

740b175973 cpu-timers, icount: new modules
refactoring of cpus.c continues with cpu timer state extraction.

cpu-timers: responsible for the softmmu cpu timers state,
            including cpu clocks and ticks.

icount: counts the TCG instructions executed. As such it is specific to
the TCG accelerator. Therefore, it is built only under CONFIG_TCG.

One complication is due to qtest, which uses an icount field to warp time
as part of qtest (qtest_clock_warp).

In order to solve this problem, provide a separate counter for qtest.

This requires fixing assumptions scattered in the code that
qtest_enabled() implies icount_enabled(), checking each specific case.

8efc4e5150 target-i386: post memory failure event to QMP
Post memory failure event through QMP to handle hardware memory corrupted
event. Rather than simply printing to the log, QEMU could report more
effective message to the client. For example, if a guest receives an MCE,
evacuating the host could be a good idea.

As with the other crypto functions, we only implement subcode 0 (query)
and no actual encryption/decryption. We now implement S390_FEAT_MSA_EXT_8.

Recent upstream Linux uses the MONITOR CALL instruction for things like
BUG_ON() and WARN_ON(). We currently inject an operation exception when
we hit a MONITOR CALL instruction - which is wrong, as the instruction
is not glued to specific CPU features.

Doing a simple WARN_ON_ONCE() currently results in a panic:

fabdada935 s390: guest support for diagnose 0x318
DIAGNOSE 0x318 (diag318) is an s390 instruction that allows the storage
of diagnostic information that is collected by the firmware in the case
of hardware/firmware service events.

QEMU handles the instruction by storing the info in the CPU state. A
subsequent register sync will communicate the data to the hypervisor.

QEMU handles the migration via a VM State Description.

This feature depends on the Extended-Length SCCB (els) feature. If
els is not present, then a warning will be printed and the SCLP bit
that allows the Linux kernel to execute the instruction will not be
set.

Availability of this instruction is determined by byte 134 (aka fac134)
bit 0 of the SCLP Read Info block. This coincidentally expands into the
space used for CPU entries, which means VMs running with the diag318
capability may not be able to read information regarding all CPUs
unless the guest kernel supports an extended-length SCCB.

This feature is not supported in protected virtualization mode.

1ecd6078f5 s390/sclp: add extended-length sccb support for kvm guest
As more features and facilities are added to the Read SCP Info (RSCPI)
response, more space is required to store them. The space used to store
these new features intrudes on the space originally used to store CPU
entries. This means as more features and facilities are added to the
RSCPI response, less space can be used to store CPU entries.

With the Extended-Length SCCB (ELS) facility, a KVM guest can execute
the RSCPI command and determine if the SCCB is large enough to store a
complete reponse. If it is not large enough, then the required length
will be set in the SCCB header.

The caller of the SCLP command is responsible for creating a
large-enough SCCB to store a complete response. Proper checking should
be in place, and the caller should execute the command once-more with
the large-enough SCCB.

This facility also enables an extended SCCB for the Read CPU Info
(RCPUI) command.

When this facility is enabled, the boundary violation response cannot
be a result from the RSCPI, RSCPI Forced, or RCPUI commands.

In order to tolerate kernels that do not yet have full support for this
feature, a "fixed" offset to the start of the CPU Entries within the
Read SCP Info struct is set to allow for the original 248 max entries
when this feature is disabled.

Additionally, this is introduced as a CPU feature to protect the guest
from migrating to a machine that does not support storing an extended
SCCB. This could otherwise hinder the VM from being able to read all
available CPU entries after migration (such as during re-ipl).

dfc523a84b target/arm: Make isar_feature_aa32_fp16_arith() handle M-profile
The M-profile definition of the MVFR1 ID register differs slightly
from the A-profile one, and in particular the check for "does the CPU
support fp16 arithmetic" is not the same.

We don't currently implement any M-profile CPUs with fp16 arithmetic,
so this is not yet a visible bug, but correcting the logic now
disarms this beartrap for when we eventually do.

8700a98443 target/i386: always create kvmclock device
QEMU's kvmclock device is only created when KVM PV feature bits for
kvmclock (KVM_FEATURE_CLOCKSOURCE/KVM_FEATURE_CLOCKSOURCE2) are
exposed to the guest. With 'kvm=off' cpu flag the device is not
created and we don't call KVM_GET_CLOCK/KVM_SET_CLOCK upon migration.
It was reported that without these call at least Hyper-V TSC page
clocksouce (which can be enabled independently) gets broken after
migration.

Switch to creating kvmclock QEMU device unconditionally, it seems
to always make sense to call KVM_GET_CLOCK/KVM_SET_CLOCK on migration.
Use KVM_CAP_ADJUST_CLOCK check instead of CPUID feature bits.

VM with  interrupt based APF enabled fails to migrate:
qemu-system-x86_64: error: failed to set MSR 0x4b564d02 to 0xf3

We have two issues:
1) There is a typo in kvm_put_msrs() and we write async_pf_int_msr
to MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_EN (instead of MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_INT)

2) We restore MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_EN before MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_INT is set
and this violates the check in KVM.

Re-order MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_EN/MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_INT setting (and
kvm_get_msrs() for consistency) and fix the typo.

the interrupt vector is set in MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_INT MSR. Support this
in QEMU.

d73415a315 qemu/atomic.h: rename atomic_ to qatomic_
clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type
pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a
compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file
that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file:

Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is

and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and
searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none.

efba15959c qom: simplify object_find_property / object_class_find_property
When debugging QEMU it is often useful to put a breakpoint on the
error_setg_internal method impl.

Unfortunately the object_property_add / object_class_property_add
methods call object_property_find / object_class_property_find methods
to check if a property exists already before adding the new property.

As a result there are a huge number of calls to error_setg_internal
on startup of most QEMU commands, making it very painful to set a
breakpoint on this method.

Most callers of object_find_property and object_class_find_property,
however, pass in a NULL for the Error parameter. This simplifies the
methods to remove the Error parameter entirely, and then adds some
new wrapper methods that are able to raise an Error when needed.

30b5707c26 qom: Remove module_obj_name parameter from OBJECT_DECLARE* macros
One of the goals of having less boilerplate on QOM declarations
is to avoid human error.  Requiring an extra argument that is
never used is an opportunity for mistakes.

Remove the unused argument from OBJECT_DECLARE_TYPE and
OBJECT_DECLARE_SIMPLE_TYPE.

31ada106d8 i386: Simplify CPUID_8000_001E for AMD
apic_id contains all the information required to build
CPUID_8000_001E. core_id and node_id is already part of
apic_id generated by x86_topo_ids_from_apicid.

Also remove the restriction on number bits on core_id and
node_id.

Remove all the hardcoded values and replace with generalized
fields.

f701c082e7 i386/kvm: correct the meaning of '0xffffffff' value for hv-spinlocks
Hyper-V TLFS prior to version 6.0 had a mistake in it: special value
'0xffffffff' for CPUID 0x40000004.EBX was called 'never to retry', this
looked weird (like why it's not '0' which supposedly have the same effect?)
but nobody raised the question. In TLFS version 6.0 the mistake was
corrected to 'never notify' which sounds logical. Fix QEMU accordingly.

82bf7ae84c target/arm: Remove KVM support for 32-bit Arm hosts
We deprecated the support for KVM on 32-bit Arm hosts in time
for release 5.0, which means that our deprecation policy allows
us to drop it in release 5.2. Remove the code.

To repeat the rationale from the deprecation note: the Linux
kernel dropped support for 32-bit Arm KVM hosts in 5.7.

Running 32-bit guests on a 64-bit Arm host remains supported.

6cf0f240e0 target/arm: Convert Neon 3-same-fp size field to MO_* in decode
In the Neon instructions, some instruction formats have a 2-bit size
field which corresponds exactly to QEMU's MO_8/16/32/64.  However the
floating-point insns in the 3-same group have a 1-bit size field
which is "0 for 32-bit float and 1 for 16-bit float".  Currently we
pass these values directly through to trans_ functions, which means
that when reading a particular trans_ function you need to know if
that insn uses a 2-bit size or a 1-bit size.

Move the handling of the 1-bit size to the decodetree file, so that
all these insns consistently pass a size to the trans_ function which
is an MO_8/16/32/64 value.

In this commit we switch over the insns using the 3same_fp and
3same_fp_q0 formats.

a47ef6e93a hw/riscv: clint: Avoid using hard-coded timebase frequency
At present the CLINT timestamp is using a hard-coded timebase
frequency value SIFIVE_CLINT_TIMEBASE_FREQ. This might not be
true for all boards.

Add a new 'timebase-freq' property to the CLINT device, and
update various functions to accept this as a parameter.

9b4c9b2b2a target/riscv: cpu: Add a new 'resetvec' property
Currently the reset vector address is hard-coded in a RISC-V CPU's
instance_init() routine. In a real world we can have 2 exact same
CPUs except for the reset vector address, which is pretty common in
the RISC-V core IP licensing business.

Normally reset vector address is a configurable parameter. Let's
create a 64-bit property to store the reset vector address which
covers both 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs.

c51a3f5d15 target/riscv: Fix bug in getting trap cause name for trace_riscv_trap
When the cause number is equal to or greater than 23, print "(unknown)" in
trace_riscv_trap. The max valid number of riscv_excp_names is 23, so the last
excpetion "guest_store_page_fault" can not be printed.

In addition, the current check of cause is invalid for riscv_intr_names. So
introduce riscv_cpu_get_trap_name to get the trap cause name.

Some trace points are attributed to the wrong source file.  Happens
when we neglect to update trace-events for code motion, or add events
in the wrong place, or misspell the file name.

Clean up with help of scripts/cleanup-trace-events.pl.  Funnies
requiring manual post-processing:

* accel/tcg/cputlb.c trace points are in trace-events.

* block.c and blockdev.c trace points are in block/trace-events.

* hw/block/nvme.c uses the preprocessor to hide its trace point use
  from cleanup-trace-events.pl.

* hw/tpm/tpm_spapr.c uses pseudo trace point tpm_spapr_show_buffer to
  guard debug code.

* include/hw/xen/xen_common.h trace points are in hw/xen/trace-events.

* linux-user/trace-events abbreviates a tedious list of filenames to
  */signal.c.

* net/colo-compare and net/filter-rewriter.c use pseudo trace points
  colo_compare_miscompare and colo_filter_rewriter_debug to guard
  debug code.

Instead of setting CPUState::halted to 1 in s390_cpu_initfn(), use the
start-powered-off property which makes cpu_common_reset() initialize it
to 1 in common code.

Note that this changes behavior by setting cs->halted to 1 on reset, which

c1b701587e target/arm: Move start-powered-off property to generic CPUState
There are other platforms which also have CPUs that start powered off, so
generalize the start-powered-off property so that it can be used by them.

Note that ARMv7MState also has a property of the same name but this patch
doesn't change it because that class isn't a subclass of CPUState so it
wouldn't be a trivial change.

This change should not cause any change in behavior.

2a7567a2f3 target/microblaze: Diagnose invalid insns in delay slots
These cases result in undefined and undocumented behaviour but the
behaviour is deterministic, i.e cores will not lock-up or expose
security issues.  However, RTL will not raise exceptions either.

Therefore, log a GUEST_ERROR and treat these cases as nops, to
avoid corner cases which could put qemu into an invalid state.

There are several problems here that can result in soft lockup,
depending on exactly where an interrupt or exception is delivered:

Include BIMM_FLAG in IFLAGS_TB_MASK, since it needs to follow D_FLAG.
Ensure that iflags is 0 when entering an interrupt/exception handler.
Add mb_cpu_synchronize_from_tb to restore iflags from tb->flags.
The change to t_sync_flags is cosmetic, but makes the code clearer.

This fixes the reported regression in acceptance/replay_kernel.py.

3b65b74254 target/hppa: Fix boot with old Linux installation CDs
The current qemu hppa emulation emulates a PA1.1 CPU, which can only execute
the 32-bit instruction set. For unknown 64-bit instructions, a instruction trap
is sent to the virtual CPU.
This behaviour is correct in the sense that we emulate what the PA1.1
specification says.

But when trying to boot older Linux installation images, e.g.
ftp://parisc.parisc-linux.org/debian-cd/debian-5.0/lenny-5.0.10-hppa-iso-cd/cdimage.debian.org/debian-5010-hppa-netinst.iso
one finds that qemu fails to boot those images.
The problem is, that in the Linux kernel (e.g. 2.6.26) of those old images
64-bit instructions were used by mistake in the fault handlers. The relevant
instructions (the ",*" indicates that it's a 64-bit instruction) I see are:

   0:   08 3d 06 3d     add,* ret1,r1,ret1
   0:   0a 09 02 61     or,* r9,r16,r1

The interesting part is, that real physical 32-bit machines (like the 700/64
and B160L - which is the one we emulate) do boot those images and thus seem to
simply ignore the 64-bit flag on those instructions.

The patch below modifies the qemu instruction decoder to ignore the 64-bit flag
too - which is what real 32-bit hardware seems to do.  With this modification
qemu now successfully boots those older images too.

I suggest to apply the patch below - even if it does not reflect what the SPEC
says.  Instead it increases the compatibility to really existing hardware and
seem to not create problems if we add real PA2.0 support anytime later.

df5c6a5094 hw/hppa: Make number of TLB and BTLB entries configurable
Until now the TLB size was fixed at 256 entries. To allow operating
systems to utilize more TLB entries in the future, we need to tell
firmware how many TLB entries we actually support in the emulation.
Firmware then reports this to the operating system via the
PDC_CACHE_INFO call.

This patch simply does the preparation to allow more TLB entries.

38688fdbe9 rx: Rename QOM type check macros
Currently we have a RXCPU typedef and a RXCPU type checking
macro, but OBJECT_DECLARE* would transform the RXCPU macro into a
function, and the function name would conflict with the typedef
name.

Rename the RXCPU* QOM type check macros to RX_CPU*, so we will
avoid the conflict and make the macro names consistent with the
TYPE_RX_CPU constant name.

This will make future conversion to OBJECT_DECLARE* easier.

b9c58aabe6 target/microblaze: Reorganize branching
Remove the btaken variable, and simplify things by always computing
the full branch destination into btarget.  This avoids all need for
sync_jmpstate().

Retain the direct branch behaviour by remembering the jump destination
in jmp_dest, discarding btarget.  In the normal case, where the branch
delay slot cannot trap (e.g. arithmetic), tcg will remove the computation
into btarget, leaving us with just the tcg direct branching at the end.

f523531471 target/microblaze: Convert brk and brki to decodetree
Split these out of the normal branch instructions, as they require
special handling.  Perform the entire operation inline, instead of
raising EXCP_BREAK to do the work in mb_cpu_do_interrupt.

This fixes a bug in that brki rd, imm, for imm != 0x18 is not
supposed to set MSR_BIP.  This fixes a bug in that imm == 0 is
the reset vector and 0x18 is the debug vector, and neither should
raise a tcg exception in system mode.

Introduce EXCP_SYSCALL for microblaze-linux-user.
