Since 2.7 commit (b2a575a Add optionrom compatible with fw_cfg DMA version)
regressed migration during firmware exection time by
abusing fwcfg.dma_enabled property to decide loading
dma version of option rom AND by mistake disabling DMA
for 2.6 and earlier globally instead of only for option rom.
so 2.6 machine type guest is broken when it already runs
firmware in DMA mode but migrated to qemu-2.7(pc-2.6)
at that time;
a) qemu-2.6:pc2.6 (fwcfg.dma=on,firmware=dma,oprom=ioport)
b) qemu-2.7:pc2.6 (fwcfg.dma=off,firmware=ioport,oprom=ioport)
to: a b
from
a OK FAIL
b OK OK
So we currently have broken forward migration from
qemu-2.6 to qemu-2.[789] that however could be fixed
for 2.10 by re-enabling DMA for 2.[56] machine types
and allowing dma capable option rom only since 2.7.
As result qemu should end up with:
c) qemu-2.10:pc2.6 (fwcfg.dma=on,firmware=dma,oprom=ioport)
to: a b c
from
a OK FAIL OK
b OK OK OK
c OK FAIL OK
where forward migration from qemu-2.6 to qemu-2.10 should
work again leaving only qemu-2.[789]:pc-2.6 broken.

there is no need in it anymore. However inon NULL callback

therefore it can be removed completely.
Replace it with MachineClass.has_hotpluggable_cpus boolean

The PC machines (pc-q35-* pc-i440fx-* pc-* isapc xenfv) automatically
create lsi53c895a SCSI HBAs and SCSI devices to honor -drive if=scsi.
For giggles, try -drive if=scsi,bus=25,media=cdrom --- this makes QEMU
create 25 of them.
lsi53c895a is thoroughly obsolete (PCI Ultra2 SCSI, ca. 2000), and
currently has no maintainer in QEMU. megasas is a better choice,
except with old OSes that lack drivers. virtio-scsi is a much better
choice when you have a driver, but only (newish) Linux comes with one
in the box. There is no good default that works for all guests.

Block backends defined with "-drive if=T" with T other than "none" are
meant to be picked up by machine initialization code: a suitable
frontend gets created and wired up automatically.
Drives defined with if=scsi are also picked up by SCSI HBAs added with
-device, unlike other interface types. Deprecate this usage, as follows.
Create the frontends for onboard HBAs in machine initialization code,
exactly like we do for if=ide and other interface types. Change
scsi_legacy_handle_cmdline() to create a frontend only when it's still
missing, and warn that this usage is deprecated.

Block backends defined with -drive if=ide are meant to be picked up by
machine initialization code: a suitable frontend gets created and
wired up automatically.
if=ide drives not picked up that way can still be used with -device as
if they had if=none, but that's unclean and best avoided. Unused ones
produce an "Orphaned drive without device" warning.
-drive parameter "if" is optional, and the default depends on the
machine type. If a machine type doesn't specify a default, the
default is "ide".
Many machine types default to if=ide, even though they don't actually
have an IDE controller. A future patch will change these defaults to
something more sensible. To prepare for it, this patch makes default
"ide" explicit for the machines that actually pick up if=ide drives:
* alpha: clipper
* arm/aarch64: spitz borzoi terrier tosa
* i386/x86_64: generic-pc-machine (with concrete subtypes pc-q35-*

* mips/mipsel/mips64el: malta mips
* ppc/ppc64: mac99 g3beige prep
* sh4/sh4eb: r2d
* sparc64: sun4u sun4v
Note that ppc64 machine powernv already sets an "ide" default
explicitly. Its IDE controller isn't implemented, yet.

The behavior of NVDIMM on unsupported platform (HW/FW) is vendor

after the first interrupt EOI(irq 62), and the same irq(62)
is injected duplicately after the interrupt window.
QEMU does KVM_INTERRUPT(62) ioctl after KVM exits with
KVM_EXIT_IRQ_WINDOW_OPEN, which QEMU requested while the
guest was printing. The printing calls
serial_update_irq() -> qemu_irq_lower() -> qemu_set_irq() ->
gsi_handler() -> qemu_set_irq() -> pic_irq_request() ->
apic_deliver_pic_intr() -> kvm_handle_interrupt()
kvm_handle_interrupt() does
interrupt_request |= CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD
which later calls cpu_get_pic_interrupt() in kvm_arch_pre_run(),
but that function uses stale information from APIC and injects
62 again. If we synchronized the APIC, then the test would #GP,
because there would be no injectable interrupt in LAPIC or PIC,
so pic_read_irq() would return 15, thinking it was spurious.
This patch fix it by don't touch LAPIC if LAPIC is in kernel.

It will enshure that cpu_index for a given cpu stays the same
regardless of the order cpus has been created/deleted.
No compat code is needed as for initial cpus index in
possible_cpus[] matches cpu_index that's been auto-allocated
in cpu_exec_init().
Tha same applies for hotplug with cpu-add command if cpus are
added sequentially in increasing order as 'id' matches cpu_index.
If cpu-add had been used for creating out-of-order cpus,
that created unmigratable instance since it were not possible
to start target with the same cpu_index using old way
of migrating instance with hotplugged cpus:
* source QEMU with CLI (-smp 1,maxcpus=3 and cpu-add id=2)
following set of cpu_index is allocated [0, 1] with
apics set [0, 2] respectivelly
* target QEMU is started with CLI -smp 2,maxcpus=3
resulting in set of cpu_index [0, 1] but with
set of apics [0, 1] wich doesn't match source.
So we don't need compat code in this case as it's never worked
and newelly added device_add support would use stable cpu_index
set by machine to begin with, so it won't have above limitation
and source QEMU could be migrated to destination regardless
of the order cpus were created.

since when CPUs are added contiguously (from the first to the last)
and removed in opposite order, cpu_index stays stable and it's
reproducible on destination side.
While there is work in progress to support migration when there
are holes in cpu_index range resulting from out-of-order plug or
unplug, this patch is intended as an interim solution until
cpu_index usage is cleaned up.
As result of this patch it would be possible to plug/unplug CPUs,
but in limited order that doesn't break migration.

Commit "8156d48 pc: allow raising low memory via max-ram-below-4g
option" causes a regression on xen, because it uses a different
memory split.
This patch initializes max-ram-below-4g to zero and leaves the
initialization to the memory initialization functions. That way
they can pick different default values (max-ram-below-4g is zero
still) or use the user supplied value (max-ram-below-4g is non-zero).
Also skip the whole ram split calculation on Xen. xen_ram_init()
does its own split calculation anyway so it is superfluous, also
this way xen_ram_init can actually see whenever max-ram-below-4g
is zero or not.

PCMachineState.node_cpu was used for mapping APIC ID
to numa node id as CPU entries in SRAT used to be
built on sparse APIC ID bitmap (up to apic_id_limit).
However since commit
5803fce pc: acpi: SRAT: create only valid processor lapic entries
CPU entries in SRAT aren't build using apic bitmap
but using 0..maxcpus index instead which is also used
for creating numa_info[x].node_cpu map.
So instead of doing useless intermediate conversion from
1. node by cpu index -> node by apic id
i.e. numa_info[x].node_cpu -> PCMachineState.node_cpu
2. apic id -> srat entry PMX
PCMachineState.node_cpu[apic id] -> PMX value
use numa_info[x].node_cpu map directly like ARM does and do
1. numa_info[x].node_cpu -> PMX value using index
in range 0..maxcpus
and drop not necessary PCMachineState.node_cpu and related
code.
That also removes the last (not counting legacy hotplug)
dependency of ACPI code on apic_id_limit and need to allocate
huge sparse PCMachineState.node_cpu array in case of 32-bit
APIC IDs.

While being at it also rework the lowmem calculation logic and add a
longish comment describing how it works and what the compatibility
constrains are.
Note: This is a incompatible change. When setting max-ram-below-4g to
a value larger than 3.5G (or 3G with gigabyte alignment) it has no
effect on older qemu versions: qemu silently ignores it. With the patch

Added machine type handling for compatibility. This was
a fairly complex change, this will preserve the order of fw_cfg
for older versions no matter what order the firmware files
actually come in. A list is kept of the correct legacy order

the list. Except that some entries are ordered (in a specific

on x86 currently range 0..max_cpus is used to generate
architecture-dependent CPU ID (APIC Id) for each present
and possible CPUs. However architecture-dependent CPU IDs
list could be sparse and code that needs to enumerate
all IDs (ACPI) ended up doing guess work enumerating all
possible and impossible IDs up to
apic_id_limit = x86_cpu_apic_id_from_index(max_cpus).
That leads to creation of MADT entries and Processor
objects in ACPI tables for not possible CPUs.
Fix it by allowing board specify a concrete list of
CPU IDs accourding its own rules (which for x86 depends
on topology). So that code that needs this list could
request it from board instead of trying to guess
what IDs are correct on its own.
This interface will also allow to help making AML
part of CPU hotplug target independent so it could
be reused for ARM target.

JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were
called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be
a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to
match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(),
where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the
otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's
time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the
'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument.
Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h
prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to
unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in
qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients.
Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and
those clients to match.
Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated
files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle
script to affect the rest of the code base:
$ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'`
I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB
indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of
visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to
the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). The
movement of parameters is sufficient to provoke compiler errors
if any callers were missed.

If TSC scaling is not supported on the destination machine, the
migration will not be aborted and QEMU on the destination will
not set vcpu's TSC rate to the migrated value.
If vcpu's TSC rate specified by CPU option 'tsc-freq' on the
destination machine is inconsistent with the migrated TSC rate,
the migration will be aborted.
For backwards compatibility, the migration of vcpu's TSC rate is
disabled on pc-*-2.5 and older machine types.

The arguments of error_report() should yield a short error string
without newlines.
A few places try to print additional help after the error message by
embedding newlines in the error string. That's nice, but let's do it
the right way. Commit 474c213 cleaned up some, but they keep coming
back. Offenders tracked down with the Coccinelle semantic patch from
commit 312fd5f.

NFIT is defined in ACPI 6.0: 5.2.25 NVDIMM Firmware Interface Table (NFIT)
Currently, we only support PMEM mode. Each device has 3 structures:
- SPA structure, defines the PMEM region info
- MEM DEV structure, it has the @handle which is used to associate specified
ACPI NVDIMM device we will introduce in later patch.
Also we can happily ignored the memory device's interleave, the real
nvdimm hardware access is hidden behind host
- DCR structure, it defines vendor ID used to associate specified vendor
nvdimm driver. Since we only implement PMEM mode this time, Command
window and Data window are not needed
The NVDIMM functionality is controlled by the parameter, 'nvdimm', which
is introduced for the machine, there is a example to enable it:
-machine pc,nvdimm -m 8G,maxmem=100G,slots=100 -object \
memory-backend-file,id=mem1,share,mem-path=/tmp/nvdimm1,size=10G -device \
nvdimm,memdev=mem1,id=nv1

Unexpected error in ram_block_add() at /work/armbru/qemu/exec.c:1456:
upstream-qemu: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory
Aborted (core dumped)
Root cause: commit ef701d7 screwed up handling of out-of-memory
conditions. Before the commit, we report the error and exit(1), in
one place, ram_block_add(). The commit lifts the error handling up
the call chain some, to three places. Fine. Except it uses
&error_abort in these places, changing the behavior from exit(1) to
abort(), and thus undoing the work of commit 3922825 "exec: Don't
abort when we can't allocate guest memory".
The three places are:
* memory_region_init_ram()
Commit 4994653 (right after commit ef701d7) lifted the error
handling further, through memory_region_init_ram(), multiplying the
incorrect use of &error_abort. Later on, imitation of existing
(bad) code may have created more.
* memory_region_init_ram_ptr()
The &error_abort is still there.
* memory_region_init_rom_device()
Doesn't need fixing, because commit 33e0eb5 (soon after commit
ef701d7) lifted the error handling further, and in the process
changed it from &error_abort to passing it up the call chain.
Correct, because the callers are realize() methods.
Fix the error handling after memory_region_init_ram() with a
Coccinelle semantic patch:
@r@
expression mr, owner, name, size, err;
position p;
@@
memory_region_init_ram(mr, owner, name, size,
(
- &error_abort
+ &error_fatal
|
err@p
)
);
@script:python@
p << r.p;
@@
print "%s:%s:%s" % (p[0].file, p[0].line, p[0].column)
When the last argument is &error_abort, it gets replaced by
&error_fatal. This is the fix.
If the last argument is anything else, its position is reported. This
lets us check the fix is complete. Four positions get reported:
* ram_backend_memory_alloc()
Error is passed up the call chain, ultimately through
user_creatable_complete(). As far as I can tell, it's callers all
handle the error sanely.
* fsl_imx25_realize(), fsl_imx31_realize(), dp8393x_realize()
DeviceClass.realize() methods, errors handled sanely further up the
call chain.
We're good. Test case again behaves:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -m 10000000
qemu-system-x86_64: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory

pc_basic_device_init() not to hand it back to pc_init1() / pc_q35_init(),
and update the latter not to carry the FDC to pc_cmos_init(). This
simplifies the code.

With the pc-q35-2.4 machine type, if the user creates an ISA FDC manually:
-device isa-fdc,driveA=drive-fdc0-0-0 \
-drive file=...,if=none,id=drive-fdc0-0-0,format=raw
then the board-default FDC will be skipped, and only the explicitly
requested FDC will exist. qtree-wise, this is correct; however such an FDC
is currently not registered in the CMOS, because that code is only reached
for the board-default FDC.
The pc_cmos_init_late() one-shot reset handler -- one-shot because the
CMOS is not reprogrammed during warm reset -- should search for any ISA
FDC devices, created implicitly (by board code) or explicitly, and set the
CMOS accordingly to the ISA FDC(s) with iobase=0x3f0:
- if there is no such FDC, report both drives absent,
- if there is exactly one such FDC, report its drives in the CMOS,
- if there are more than one such FDCs, then pick one (it is not specified
which one), and print a warning about the ambiguity.

Setting the parent bus of a device increases its ref count, which we
ultimately want to level out. However it is only safe to do so after the
last reference to the device in local code, as qom-set or similar operations
might decrease the ref count.
Therefore move the object_unref() from pc_new_cpu() into its callers.
The APIC operations on the last CPU in pc_cpus_init() are still potentially
insecure, but that is beyond the scope of this code movement.

This patch introduces no observable change, but it allows the callers of
pc_basic_device_init(), ie. pc_init1() and pc_q35_init(), to request (or
not request) the creation of the FDC explicitly.
At the moment both callers pass constant create_fdctrl=true (hence no
observable change).
Assuming a board passes create_fdctrl=false, "floppy" will be NULL on
output, and (beyond the FDC not being created) that NULL will be passed on
to pc_cmos_init(). Luckily, pc_cmos_init() already handles that case.

arm/virt doesn't. It could be argued that that's an error in
"hw/arm/virt.c"; on the other hand, all of the other fw_cfg providing
boards set the interface version to 1 manually, despite the device
coming from the same, shared implementation. Therefore, instead of
adding
fw_cfg_add_i32(fw_cfg, FW_CFG_ID, 1);
to arm/virt, consolidate all such existing calls in the fw_cfg

Since commit
dd0247e0 pc: acpi: mark all possible CPUs as enabled in SRAT
Linux kernel actually tries to use CPU to Node mapping from
QEMU provided SRAT table instead of discarding it, and that
in some cases breaks build_sched_domains() which expects
sane mapping where cores/threads belonging to the same socket
are on the same NUMA node.
With current default round-robin mapping of VCPUs to nodes
guest ends-up with cores/threads belonging to the same socket
being on different NUMA nodes.
For example with following CLI:
qemu-system-x86_64 -m 4G \
-cpu Opteron_G3,vendor=AuthenticAMD \
-smp 5,sockets=1,cores=4,threads=1,maxcpus=8 \
-numa node,nodeid=0 -numa node,nodeid=1
2.6.32 based kernels will hang on boot due to incorrectly built
sched_group-s list in update_sd_lb_stats()
Replacing default mapping with a manual, where VCPUs belonging to
the same socket are on the same NUMA node, fixes the issue for
guests which can't handle nonsense topology i.e. changing CLI to:
-numa node,nodeid=0,cpus=0-3 -numa node,nodeid=1,cpus=4-7
So instead of simply scattering VCPUs around nodes, provide
callback to map the same socket VCPUs to the same NUMA node,
which is what guests would expect from a sane hardware/BIOS.

If the maxram_size is not aligned and dimm devices were added on the
command line qemu would terminate with a rather unhelpful message:
ERROR:hw/mem/pc-dimm.c:150:pc_dimm_get_free_addr: assertion failed:
(QEMU_ALIGN_UP(address_space_size, align) == address_space_size)
In case no dimm device was originally added on the commandline qemu

Memory and CPU hot unplug are both asynchronous procedures.
When the unplug operation happens, unplug request cb is called first.
And when guest OS finished handling unplug, unplug cb will be called
to do the real removal of device.
This patch adds hotunplug cb to pc machine, which memory and CPU
hot unplug will use it.

g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n). It's also safer,
for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.
This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form
sizeof(T).

if DIMMs with different size/alignment are interleaved
in creation order, it could lead to hotplug-memory

-device pc-dimm,id=mem1,memdev=mem-1

-device pc-dimm,id=mem3,memdev=mem-3

When running in KVM mode, kvm_set_phys_mem() will silently
fail if registered MemoryRegion address/size is not page
aligned. Causing memory hotplug failure in guest.
Mapping non aligned MemoryRegion in TCG mode 'works', but
sane guest OS still expects page aligned memory module
and fails to initialize it if it's not aligned.

Commit 261747f1 ("vl: Use MachineClass instead of global QEMUMachine
list") broke the ordering of the machine types in the user-visible output
of
qemu-system-XXXX -M \?
This occurred because registration was rebased from a manually maintained
linked list to GLib hash tables:
qemu_register_machine()
type_register()
type_register_internal()
type_table_add()
g_hash_table_insert()
and because the listing was rebased accordingly, from the traversal of the
list to the traversal of the hash table (rendered as an ad-hoc list):
machine_parse()
object_class_get_list(TYPE_MACHINE)
object_class_foreach()
g_hash_table_foreach()
The current order is a "random" one, for practical purposes, which is
annoying for users.
Introduce new members QEMUMachine.family and MachineClass.family, allowing
machine types to be "clustered". Introduce a comparator function that
establishes a total ordering between machine types, ordering machine types
in the same family next to each other. In machine_parse(), list the
supported machine types sorted with the comparator function.
The comparator function:
- sorts whole families before standalone machine types,
- sorts whole families between each other in alphabetically increasing
order,
- sorts machine types inside the same family in alphabetically decreasing
order,
- sorts standalone machine types between each other in alphabetically
increasing order.
After this patch, all machine types are considered standalone, and
accordingly, the output is alphabetically ascending. This will be refined
in the following patches.

Device models should access their block backends only through the
block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of
inappropriate headers.
Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left:
* The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images
itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it
should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead.
* Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model
does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either.
* ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of
blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB,
which has only the BlockDriverState.
* PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member.
The next two commits take care of the latter two.

This patch adds the 'units_per_default_bus' property which
allows individual boards to declare their desired
index => (bus,unit) mapping for their default HBA, so that
boards such as Q35 can specify that its default if_ide HBA,
AHCI, only accepts one unit per bus.
This property only overrides the mapping for drives matching
the block_default_type interface.
This patch also adds this property to *all* past and present
Q35 machine types. This retroactive addition is justified
because the previous erroneous index=>(bus,unit) mappings
caused by lack of such a property were not utilized due to
lack of initialization code in the Q35 init routine.
Further, semantically, the Q35 board type has always had the
property that its default HBA, AHCI, only accepts one unit per
bus. The new code added to add devices to drives relies upon
the accuracy of this mapping. Thus, the property is applied
retroactively to reduce complexity of allowing IDE HBAs with
different units per bus.
Examples:
Prior to this patch, all IDE HBAs were assumed to use 2 units
per bus (Master, Slave). When using Q35 and AHCI, however, we
only allow one unit per bus.
-hdb foo.qcow2 would become index=1, or bus=0,unit=1.
-hdd foo.qcow2 would become index=3, or bus=1,unit=1.
-drive file=foo.qcow2,index=5 becomes bus=2,unit=1.
These are invalid for AHCI. They now become, under Q35 only:
-hdb foo.qcow2 --> index=1, bus=1, unit=0.
-hdd foo.qcow2 --> index=3, bus=3, unit=0.
-drive file=foo.qcow2,index=5 --> bus=5,unit=0.
The mapping is adjusted based on the fact that the default IF
for the Q35 machine type is IF_IDE, and units-per-default-bus
overrides the IDE mapping from its default of 2 units per bus
to just 1 unit per bus.

Since QEMU 2.1, we are allocating more space for ACPI tables, so no
space is left after initrd for the BIOS to allocate memory.
Besides ACPI tables, there are a few other uses of high memory in
SeaBIOS: SMBIOS tables and USB drivers use it in particular. These uses
allocate a very small amount of memory. Malloc metadata also lives
there. So we need _some_ extra padding there to avoid initrd breakage,
but not much.
John Snow found a case where RHEL5 was broken by the recent change to
ACPI_TABLE_SIZE; in his case 4KB of extra padding are fine, but just to
be safe I am adding 32KB, which is roughly the same amount of padding
that was left by QEMU 2.0 and earlier.
Move initrd to leave some space for the BIOS.

This is a pc & q35 only machine opt.
If you add enough PCI devices then all mmio for them will not fit
below 4G which may not be the layout the user wanted. This allows
you to increase the below 4G address space that PCI devices can use
(aka decrease ram below 4G) and therefore in more cases not have any
mmio that is above 4G.
For example using "-machine pc,max-ram-below-4g=2G" on the command
line will limit the amount of ram that is below 4G to 2G.
Note: this machine option cannot be used to increase the amount
of ram below 4G.

wiring of the slave to the master is hard-coded in device model code

In an ideal world, machines can be built by wiring devices together
with configuration, not code. Unfortunately, that's not the world we
live in right now. We still have quite a few devices that need to be
wired up by code. If you try to device_add such a device, it'll fail
in sometimes mysterious ways. If you're lucky, you get an
unmysterious immediate crash.
To protect users from such badness, DeviceClass member no_user used to
make device models unavailable with -device / device_add, but that
regressed in commit 18b6dad. The device model is still omitted from
help, but is available anyway.
Attempts to fix the regression have been rejected with the argument
that the purpose of no_user isn't clear, and it's prone to misuse.
This commit clarifies no_user's purpose. Anthony suggested to rename
it cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet_due_to_internal_bugs, which
I shorten somewhat to keep checkpatch happy. While there, make it
bool.
Every use of cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet gets a FIXME
comment asking for rationale. The next few commits will clean them
all up, either by providing a rationale, or by getting rid of the use.
With that done, the regression fix is hopefully acceptable.

Owning to some different hardware design, piix and q35 need
different compat. So making them diverge.
On q35, IRQ2/8 can be reserved for hpet timer 0/1. And pin 16~23
can be assigned to hpet as guest chooses. So we introduce intcap
property to do that.
Consider the compat and piix/q35, we finally have the following
value for intcap: For piix, hpet's intcap is hard coded as IRQ2.
For pc-q35-1.7 and earlier, we use IRQ2 for compat reason. Otherwise
IRQ2, IRQ8, and IRQ16~23 are allowed.

Unlike the existing FW_CFG_E820_TABLE entry which carries reservations
only the new etc/e820 file also has entries for RAM.
Format is simliar to the FW_CFG_E820_TABLE, it is a simple list of
e820_entry structs. Unlike FW_CFG_E820_TABLE it has no count though
as the number of entries can be figured from the file size.

We have a fw_cfg entry to pass e820 entries from qemu to the firmware.
Today it's used to pass reservations only. This patch makes qemu pass
entries for RAM too.
This allows to pass RAM sizes larger than 1TB to the firmware and it
will also allow to pass non-contignous memory ramges should we decide
to implement that some day, say for our virtual numa nodes.
Obviously this needs some extra care to not break existing firware.
SeaBIOS loads the entries and happily adds them without looking at the
type. Which is problematic for memory below 4g as this will overwrite
reservations added for bios memory etc. For memory above 4g it works
just fine, seabios will merge the entry derived from cmos with the one
loaded from fw_cfg.
OVMF doesn't look at the fw_cfg e820 table.
coreboot doesn't look at the fw_cfg e820 table.

This adds C code for generating ACPI tables at runtime,
imported from seabios git tree
commit 51684b7ced75fb76776e8ee84833fcfb6ecf12dd
Although ACPI tables come from a system BIOS on real hw,
it makes sense that the ACPI tables are coupled with the
virtual machine, since they have to abstract the x86 machine to
the OS's.
This is widely desired as a way to avoid the churn
and proliferation of QEMU-specific interfaces
associated with ACPI tables in bios code.
Notes:
As BIOS can reprogram devices prior to loading
ACPI tables, we pre-format ACPI tables but defer loading
hardware configuration there until tables are loaded.
The code structure was intentionally kept as close
to the seabios original as possible, to simplify
comparison and making sure we didn't lose anything
in translation.
Minor code duplication results, to help ensure there are no functional
regressions, I think it's better to merge it like this and do more code
changes in follow-up patches.
Cross-version compatibility concerns have been addressed:
ACPI tables are exposed to guest as FW_CFG entries.
When running with -M 1.5 and older, this patch disables ACPI
table generation, and doesn't expose ACPI
tables to guest.
As table content is likely to change over time,
the following measures are taken to simplify
cross-version migration:
- All tables besides the RSDP are packed in a single FW CFG entry.
This entry size is currently 23K. We round it up to 64K
to avoid too much churn there.
- Tables are placed in special ROM blob (not mapped into guest memory)
which is automatically migrated together with the guest, same
as BIOS code.
- Offsets where hardware configuration is loaded in ACPI tables
are also migrated, this is in case future ACPI changes make us
rearrange the tables in memory.
This patch reuses some code from SeaBIOS, which was originally under
LGPLv2 and then relicensed to GPLv3 or LGPLv3, in QEMU under GPLv2+. This
relicensing has been acked by all contributors that had contributed to the
code since the v2->v3 relicense. ACKs approving the v2+ relicensing are
listed below. The list might include ACKs from people not holding
copyright on any parts of the reused code, but it's better to err on the
side of caution and include them.

Convert stderr messages calling error_get_pretty()
to error_report().
Timestamp is prepended by -msg timstamp option with it.
Per Markus's comment below, A conversion from fprintf() to
error_report() is always an improvement, regardless of
error_get_pretty().
http://marc.info/?l=qemu-devel&m=137513283408601&w=2
But, it is not reasonable to convert them at one time
because fprintf() is used everwhere in qemu.
So, it should be done step by step with avoiding regression.

Error **errp argument is not for emitting warnings, it means an error
has occurred and the caller should not make any assumptions about the
state of other return values (unless otherwise documented).
Therefore cpu_x86_create() must unref the new X86CPU itself, and
pc_new_cpu() must check for an Error rather than NULL return value.
While at it, clean up a superfluous NULL check.

if 64 bit PCI hole size is >2G.
Limit it to 2G for piix and q35 by default.
User may override default 64-bit PCI hole size by
using "pci-hole64-size" property.
Examples:
-global i440FX-pcihost.pci-hole64-size=4G
-global q35-pcihost.pci-hole64-size=4G
