Add a function that wraps hbitmap_iter_next() and always calls it in
non-advancing mode first, and in advancing mode next. The result should
always be the same.
By using this function everywhere we called hbitmap_iter_next() before,
we should get good test coverage for non-advancing hbitmap_iter_next().

If bdrv_do_drained_begin() polls during its subtree recursion, the graph
can change and mess up the bs->children iteration. Test that this
doesn't happen.

This patch adds two bdrv-drain tests for what happens if some BDS goes
away during the drainage.
The basic idea is that you have a parent BDS with some child nodes.
Then, you drain one of the children. Because of that, the party who
actually owns the parent decides to (A) delete it, or (B) detach all its
children from it -- both while the child is still being drained.
A real-world case where this can happen is the mirror block job, which
may exit if you drain one of its children.

We already requested that block jobs be paused in .bdrv_drained_begin,
but no guarantee was made that the job was actually inactive at the
point where bdrv_drained_begin() returned.
This introduces a new callback BdrvChildRole.bdrv_drained_poll() and
uses it to make bdrv_drain_poll() consider block jobs using the node to
be drained.
For the test case to work as expected, we have to switch from
block_job_sleep_ns() to qemu_co_sleep_ns() so that the test job is even
considered active and must be waited for when draining the node.

Since we use bdrv_do_drained_begin/end() for bdrv_drain_all_begin/end(),
coroutine context is automatically left with a BH, preventing the
deadlocks that made bdrv_drain_all*() unsafe in coroutine context. Now
that we even removed the old polling code as dead code, it's obvious
that it's compatible now.
Enable the coroutine test cases for bdrv_drain_all().

bdrv_do_drain_begin/end() implement already everything that
bdrv_drain_all_begin/end() need and currently still do manually: Disable
external events, call parent drain callbacks, call block driver
callbacks.
It also does two more things:
The first is incrementing bs->quiesce_counter. bdrv_drain_all() already
stood out in the test case by behaving different from the other drain
variants. Adding this is not only safe, but in fact a bug fix.
The second is calling bdrv_drain_recurse(). We already do that later in
the same function in a loop, so basically doing an early first iteration
doesn't hurt.

As long as nobody keeps the other I/O thread from working, there is no
reason why bdrv_drain() wouldn't work with cross-AioContext events. The
key is that the root request we're waiting for is in the AioContext
we're polling (which it always is for bdrv_drain()) so that aio_poll()
is woken up in the end.
Add a test case that shows that it works. Remove the comment in
bdrv_drain() that claims otherwise.

This test boots a Linux kernel, and checks that the given command
line was effective in two ways:
* It makes the kernel use the set "console device" as a console
* The kernel records the command line as expected in the console
Given that way too many error conditions may occur, and detecting the
kernel boot progress status may not be trivial, this test relies on a
timeout to handle unexpected situations. Also, it's *not* tagged as a
quick test for obvious reasons.
It may be useful, while interactively running/debugging this test, or
tests similar to this one, to show some of the logging channels.

qht_lookup now uses the default cmp function. qht_lookup_custom is defined
to retain the old behaviour, that is a cmp function is explicitly provided.
qht_insert will gain use of the default cmp in the next patch.
Note that we move qht_lookup_custom's @func to be the last argument,

The -drive options cyls, heads, secs and trans were deprecated in
QEMU 2.10. It's time to remove them.
hd-geo-test tested both the old version with geometry options in -drive
and the new one with -device. Therefore the code using -drive doesn't
have to be replaced there, we just need to remove the -drive test cases.
This in turn allows some simplification of the code.

-blockdev and blockdev-add silently ignore empty objects and arrays in
their argument. That's because qmp_blockdev_add() converts the
argument to a flat QDict, and qdict_flatten() eats empty QDict and
QList members. For instance, we ignore an empty BlockdevOptions
member @cache. No real harm, as absent means the same as empty there.
Thus, the flaw puts an artificial restriction on the QAPI schema: we
can't have potentially empty objects and arrays within
BlockdevOptions, except when they're optional and "empty" has the same
meaning as "absent".
Our QAPI schema satisfies this restriction (I checked), but it's a
trap for the unwary, and a temptation to employ awkward workarounds
for the wary. Let's get rid of it.
Change qdict_flatten() and qdict_crumple() to treat empty dictionaries
and lists exactly like scalars.

There are numerous QDict functions that have been introduced for and are
used only by the block layer. Move their declarations into an own
header file to reflect that.
While qdict_extract_subqdict() is in fact used outside of the block
layer (in util/qemu-config.c), it is still a function related very
closely to how the block layer works with nested QDicts, namely by
sometimes flattening them. Therefore, its declaration is put into this
header as well and util/qemu-config.c includes it with a comment stating
exactly which function it needs.

Although qemu-img creates aligned files (by rounding up), it
must also gracefully handle files that are not sector-aligned.
Test that the bug fixed in the previous patch does not recur.
It's a bit annoying that we can see the (implicit) hole past
the end of the file on to the next sector boundary, so if we
ever reach the point where we report a byte-accurate size rather
than our current behavior of always rounding up, this test will
probably need a slight modification.

219 has two issues that may lead to sporadic failure, both of which are
the result of issuing query-jobs too early after a job has been
modified. This can then lead to different results based on whether the
modification has taken effect already or not.
First, query-jobs is issued right after the job has been created.
Besides its current progress possibly being in any random state (which
has already been taken care of), its total progress too is basically
arbitrary, because the job may not yet have been able to determine it.
This patch addresses this by just filtering the total progress, like
what has been done for the current progress already. However, for more
clarity, the filtering is changed to replace the values by a string
'FILTERED' instead of deleting them.
Secondly, query-jobs is issued right after a job has been resumed. The
job may or may not yet have had the time to actually perform any I/O,
and thus its current progress may or may not have advanced. To make
sure it has indeed advanced (which is what the reference output already
assumes), keep querying it until it has.

As a showcase of how you can use qemu-io's exit code to determine
success or failure (same for qemu-img), this test is changed to use
qemu_io_silent() instead of qemu_io(), and to assert the exit code
instead of logging the filtered result.
One real advantage of this is that in case of an error, you get a
backtrace that helps you locate the issue in the test file quickly.

This adds a test for an I/O error during snapshot deletion, and maybe
more importantly, for how to repair the resulting image. If the
snapshot has been deleted before the error occurs, the only negative
result will be leaked clusters -- and those should be repairable with
qemu-img check -r leaks.

This test case has been broken since 398e6ad014 (roughly half a
year). qemu-img amend requires its output image to be R/W, so it opens
it as such; the node is then turned into an read-only node automatically
which is now accompanied by a warning, however. This warning has not
been part of the reference output.
For one thing, this warning shows that we cannot keep the test case as
it is. We would need a format that has no create_opts but that does
have write support -- we do not have such a format, though.
Another thing is that qemu now actually checks whether an image format
supports amendment instead of whether it has create_opts (since the
former always implies the latter). So we can now use any format that
does not support amendment (even if it supports creation) and thus test
the same code path.
The reason nobody has noticed the breakage until now of course is the
fact that nobody runs the iotests for nbd+bochs. There actually was
never any reason to set the protocol to "nbd" but because that was
technically correct; functionally it made no difference. So that is the
first thing we are going to change: Make the protocol "file" instead so
that people might actually notice breakage here.
Secondly, now that bochs no longer works for the amend test case, we
have to change the format there anyway. Set let us just bend the truth
a bit, declare this test a raw test. In fact, that does not even
concern the bochs test cases, other than the output now reading 'bochs'
instead of 'IMGFMT'.
So with this test now being a raw test, we can rework the amend test
case to use raw instead.

The more generic print_block_option_help() function is not really
suitable for qemu-img amend, for a couple of reasons:
(1) We do not need to append the protocol-level options, as amendment
happens only on one node and does not descend downwards to its
children.
(2) print_block_option_help() says those options are "supported". For
option amendment, we do not really know that. So this new function
explicitly says that those options are the creation options, and not
all of them may be supported.
(3) If the driver does not support option amendment, we should not print
anything (except for an error message that amendment is not
supported).

Looking at the qcow2 code that is riddled with error_report() calls,
this is really how it should have been from the start.
Along the way, turn the target_version/current_version comparisons at
the beginning of qcow2_downgrade() into assertions (the caller has to
make sure these conditions are met), and rephrase the error message on
using compat=1.1 to get refcount widths other than 16 bits.

The PIO Setup FIS is written in the PIO:Entry state, which comes before
the ATA and ATAPI data transfer states. As a result, the PIO Setup FIS
interrupt is now raised before DMA ends for ATAPI commands, and tests have
to be adjusted.
This is also hinted by the description of the command header in the AHCI
specification, where the "A" bit is described as
When ‘1’, indicates that a PIO setup FIS shall be sent by the device
indicating a transfer for the ATAPI command.
and also by the description of the ACMD (ATAPI command region):
The ATAPI command must be either 12 or 16 bytes in length. The length
transmitted by the HBA is determined by the PIO setup FIS that is sent
by the device requesting the ATAPI command.
QEMU, which conflates the "generator" and the "receiver" of the FIS into
one device, always uses ATAPI_PACKET_SIZE, aka 12, for the length.

It's not always 512, and it does wind up mattering for PIO tranfers,
because this means DRQ blocks are four times as big for ATAPI.
Replace an instance of 2048 with the correct define, too.
This patch by itself winds changing no behavior. fis->count is ignored
for CMD_PACKET, and sect_count only gets used in non-ATAPI cases.

Commit 1454509726 recently broke the "-cdrom" parameter
on a couple of boards without us noticing it immediately. Thus let's
add a test which checks that "-cdrom" can at least be used to start
QEMU with certain machine types.

We already have the code for a boot file in tests/boot-sector.c,
so if the genisoimage program is available, we can easily create
a bootable CD ISO image that we can use for testing whether our
CD-ROM emulation and the BIOS CD-ROM boot works correctly.

We're going to use the s390x boot code for testing CD-ROM booting.
But the ISO loader of the s390-ccw bios is a little bit more picky
than the network loader and expects some magic bytes in the header
of the file (see linux_s390_magic in pc-bios/s390-ccw/bootmap.c), so
we've got to add them in our boot code here, too.

Commit d759c951f3 ("replay: push
replay_mutex_lock up the call tree") removed the !timeout lock
optimization in the main loop.
The idea of the optimization was to avoid ping-pongs between threads by
keeping the Big QEMU Lock held across non-blocking (!timeout) main loop
iterations.
A warning is printed when the main loop spins without releasing BQL for
long periods of time. These warnings were supposed to aid debugging but
in practice they just alarm users. They are considered noise because
the cause of spinning is not shown and is hard to find.
Now that the lock optimization has been removed, there is no danger of
hogging the BQL. Drop the spin counter and the infamous warning.

- add clang to FEATURES for our test-clang machinery

New option will be used to allow commands, which are prepared/need
to run, during preconfig state. Other commands that should be able
to run in preconfig state, should be amended to not expect machine
in initialized state or deal with it.
For compatibility reasons, commands that don't use new flag
'allow-preconfig' explicitly are not permitted to run in
preconfig state but allowed in all other states like they used
to be.
Within this patch allow following commands in preconfig state:
qmp_capabilities
query-qmp-schema
query-commands
query-command-line-options
query-status
exit-preconfig
to allow qmp connection, basic introspection and moving to the next
state.
PS:
set-numa-node and query-hotpluggable-cpus will be enabled later in
a separate patches.

This rewrites the test case 206 to work with the new x-blockdev-create
job rather than the old synchronous version of the command.
All of the test cases stay the same as before, but in order to be able
to implement proper job handling, the test case is rewritten in Python.

This changes the x-blockdev-create QMP command so that it doesn't block
the monitor and the main loop any more, but starts a background job that
performs the image creation.
The basic job as implemented here is all that is necessary to make image
creation asynchronous and to provide a QMP interface that can be marked
stable, but it still lacks a few features that jobs usually provide: The
job will ignore pause commands and it doesn't publish more than very
basic progress yet (total-progress is 1 and current-progress advances
from 0 to 1 when the driver callbacks returns). These features can be
added later without breaking compatibility.

So far we relied on job->ret and strerror() to produce an error message
for failed jobs. Not surprisingly, this tends to result in completely
useless messages.
This adds a Job.error field that can contain an error string for a
failing job, and a parameter to job_completed() that sets the field. As
a default, if NULL is passed, we continue to use strerror(job->ret).
All existing callers are changed to pass NULL. They can be improved in
separate patches.

Add a test program for testing the CRB with the external swtpm.
The 1st test case extends a PCR and reads back the value and compares
it against an expected return packet.
The 2nd test case repeats the 1st test case and then migrates the
external swtpm's state along with the VM state to a destination
QEMU and swtpm and checks that the PCR has the expected value now.
The test cases require 'swtpm' to be installed on the system and
in the PATH and 'swtpm' must support the --tpm2 option. If this is
not the case, the test will be skipped.

The transition to the READY state was still performed in the BlockJob
layer, in the same function that sent the BLOCK_JOB_READY QMP event.
This patch brings the state transition to the Job layer and implements
the QMP event using a notifier called from the Job layer, like we
already do for other events related to state transitions.

Instead of having a 'bool ready' in BlockJob, add a function that
derives its value from the job status.
At the same time, this fixes the behaviour to match what the QAPI
documentation promises for query-block-job: 'true if the job may be
completed'. When the ready flag was introduced in commit ef6dbf1e46,
the flag never had to be reset to match the description because after
being ready, the jobs would immediately complete and disappear.
Job transactions and manual job finalisation were introduced only later.
With these changes, jobs may stay around even after having completed
(and they are not ready to be completed a second time), however their
patches forgot to reset the ready flag.

Job, so add a new JobDriver callback JobDriver.drain which has a common
implementation for all BlockJobs. In addition to this we keep the
existing BlockJobDriver.drain callback that is called by the common
drain implementation for all block jobs.

Move the defer_to_main_loop functionality from BlockJob to Job.
The code can be simplified because we can use job->aio_context in
job_defer_to_main_loop_bh() now, instead of having to access the
BlockDriverState.
Probably taking the data->aio_context lock in addition was already
unnecessary in the old code because we didn't actually make use of
anything protected by the old AioContext except getting the new
AioContext, in case it changed between scheduling the BH and running it.
But it's certainly unnecessary now that the BDS isn't accessed at all
any more.

This moves reference counting from BlockJob to Job.
In order to keep calling the BlockJob cleanup code when the job is
deleted via job_unref(), introduce a new JobDriver.free callback. Every
block job must use block_job_free() for this callback, this is asserted

This is the first step towards creating an infrastructure for generic
background jobs that aren't tied to a block device. For now, Job only
stores its ID and JobDriver, the rest stays in BlockJob.
The following patches will move over more parts of BlockJob to Job if
they are meaningful outside the context of a block job.
BlockJob.driver is now redundant, but this patch leaves it around to
avoid unnecessary churn. The next patches will get rid of almost all of
its uses anyway so that it can be removed later with much less churn.

NFS paths were only partially filtered in _filter_img_create, _img_info
and _filter_img_info, resulting in "nfs://127.0.0.1TEST_DIR/t.IMGFMT".
This adds another replacement to the sed calls that matches the test
directory not as a host path, but as an NFS URL (the prefix as used for
$TEST_IMG).

Currently the timer is cancelled and the block job is entered by
block_job_resume(). This behavior causes drain to run extra blockjob
iterations when the job was sleeping due to the ratelimit.
This patch leaves the job asleep when block_job_resume() is called.
Jobs can still be forcibly woken up using block_job_enter(), which is
used to cancel jobs.
After this patch drain no longer runs extra blockjob iterations. This
is the expected behavior that qemu-iotests 185 used to rely on. We
temporarily changed the 185 test output to make it pass for the QEMU
2.12 release but now it's time to address this issue.

Commit 8565c3ab53 ("qemu-iotests: fix
185") identified a race condition in a sub-test.
Similar issues also affect the other sub-tests. If disk I/O completes
quickly, it races with the QMP 'quit' command. This causes spurious
test failures because QMP events are emitted in an unpredictable order.
This test relies on QEMU internals and there is no QMP API for getting
deterministic behavior needed to make this test 100% reliable. At the
same time, the test is useful and it would be a shame to remove it.
Add sleep 0.5 to reduce the chance of races. This is not a real fix but
appears to reduce spurious failures in practice.

COR across nodes (that is, you have some filter node between the
actually COR target and the node that performs the COR) cannot reliably
work together with the permission system when there is no explicit COR
node that can request the WRITE_UNCHANGED permission for its child.
This is because COR (currently) sneaks its requests by the usual
permission checks, so it can work without a WRITE* permission; but if
there is a filter node in between, that will re-issue the request, which
then passes through the usual check -- and if nobody has requested a
WRITE_UNCHANGED permission, that check will fail.
There is no real direct fix apart from hoping that there is someone who
has requested that permission; in case of just the qemu-io HMP command
(and no guest device), however, that is not the case. The real real fix
is to implement the copy-on-read flag through an implicitly added COR
node. Such a node can request the necessary permissions as shown in
this test.

Currently, common.qemu only allows to match for results indicating
success. The only way to fail is by provoking a timeout. However,
sometimes we do have a defined failure output and can match for that,
which saves us from having to wait for the timeout in case of failure.
Because failure can sometimes just result in a _notrun in the test, it
is actually important to care about being able to fail quickly.
Also, sometimes we simply do not get any specific output in case of
success. The only way to handle this currently would be to define an
error message as the string to look for, which means that actual success
results in a timeout. This is really bad because it unnecessarily slows
down a succeeding test.
Therefore, this patch adds a new parameter $success_or_failure to
_timed_wait_for and _send_qemu_cmd. Setting this to a non-empty string
makes both commands expect two match parameters: If the first matches,
the function succeeds. If the second matches, the function fails.

The L2 and refcount caches have default sizes that can be overridden
using the l2-cache-size and refcount-cache-size (an additional
parameter named cache-size sets the combined size of both caches).
Unless forced by one of the aforementioned parameters, QEMU will set
the unspecified sizes so that the L2 cache is 4 times larger than the
refcount cache.
This is based on the premise that the refcount metadata needs to be
only a fourth of the L2 metadata to cover the same amount of disk
space. This is incorrect for two reasons:
a) The amount of disk covered by an L2 table depends solely on the
cluster size, but in the case of a refcount block it depends on
the cluster size *and* the width of each refcount entry.
The 4/1 ratio is only valid with 16-bit entries (the default).
b) When we talk about disk space and L2 tables we are talking about
guest space (L2 tables map guest clusters to host clusters),
whereas refcount blocks are used for host clusters (including
L1/L2 tables and the refcount blocks themselves). On a fully
populated (and uncompressed) qcow2 file, image size > virtual size
so there are more refcount entries than L2 entries.
Problem (a) could be fixed by adjusting the algorithm to take into
account the refcount entry width. Problem (b) could be fixed by
increasing a bit the refcount cache size to account for the clusters
used for qcow2 metadata.
However this patch takes a completely different approach and instead
of keeping a ratio between both cache sizes it assigns as much as
possible to the L2 cache and the remainder to the refcount cache.
The reason is that L2 tables are used for every single I/O request
from the guest and the effect of increasing the cache is significant
and clearly measurable. Refcount blocks are however only used for
cluster allocation and internal snapshots and in practice are accessed
sequentially in most cases, so the effect of increasing the cache is
negligible (even when doing random writes from the guest).
So, make the refcount cache as small as possible unless the user
explicitly asks for a larger one.

Commit abd3622cc0 added a case to 122
regarding how the qcow2 driver handles an incorrect compressed data
length value. This does not really fit into 122, as that file is
supposed to contain qemu-img convert test cases, which this case is not.
So this patch splits it off into its own file; maybe we will even get
more qcow2-only compression tests in the future.
Also, that test case does not work with refcount_bits=1, so mark that
option as unsupported.

We already have an extensive mirror test (041) which does cover
cancelling a mirror job, especially after it has emitted the READY
event. However, it does not check what exact events are emitted after
block-job-cancel is executed. More importantly, it does not use
throttling to ensure that it covers the case of block-job-cancel before
READY.
It would be possible to add this case to 041, but considering it is
already our largest test file, it makes sense to create a new file for
these cases.

Commit b76e4458b1 ("block/mirror: change
the semantic of 'force' of block-job-cancel") accidentally removed the
ratelimit in the mirror job.
Reintroduce the ratelimit but keep the block-job-cancel force=true
behavior that was added in commit
b76e4458b1.
Note that block_job_sleep_ns() returns immediately when the job is
cancelled. Therefore it's safe to unconditionally call
block_job_sleep_ns() - a cancelled job does not sleep.
This commit fixes the non-deterministic qemu-iotests 185 output. The
test relies on the ratelimit to make the job sleep until the 'quit'
command is processed. Previously the job could complete before the
'quit' command was received since there was no ratelimit.

Now that we can safely call QOBJECT() on QObject * as well as its
subtypes, we can have macros qobject_ref() / qobject_unref() that work
everywhere instead of having to use QINCREF() / QDECREF() for QObject
and qobject_incref() / qobject_decref() for its subtypes.
The replacement is mechanical, except I broke a long line, and added a
cast in monitor_qmp_cleanup_req_queue_locked(). Unlike
qobject_decref(), qobject_unref() doesn't accept void *.
Note that the new macros evaluate their argument exactly once, thus no
need to shout them.

By moving the base fields to a QObjectBase_, QObject can be a type
which also has a 'base' field. This allows writing a generic QOBJECT()
macro that will work with any QObject type, including QObject
itself. The container_of() macro ensures that the object to cast has a
QObjectBase_ base field, giving some type safety guarantees. QObject
must have no members but QObjectBase_ base, or else QOBJECT() breaks.
QObjectBase_ is not a typedef and uses a trailing underscore to make
it obvious it is not for normal use and to avoid potential abuse.

The consoles ("sclpconsole" and "sclplmconsole") can only be configured
with "-device" and "-chardev" so far. Other machines use the convenience
option "-serial" to configure the default consoles, even for virtual
consoles like spapr-vty on the pseries machine. So let's support this
option on s390x, too. This way we can easily enable the serial console
here again with "-nodefaults", for example:
qemu-system-s390x -no-shutdown -nographic -nodefaults -serial mon:stdio
... which is way shorter than typing:
qemu-system-s390x -no-shutdown -nographic -nodefaults \
-chardev stdio,id=c1,mux=on -device sclpconsole,chardev=c1 \

The -serial parameter can also be used if you only want to see the QEMU
monitor on stdio without using -nodefaults, but not the console output.
That's something that is pretty impossible with the current code today:
qemu-system-s390x -no-shutdown -nographic -serial none
While we're at it, this patch also maps the second -serial option to the
"sclplmconsole", so that there is now an easy way to configure this second
console on s390x, too, for example:
qemu-system-s390x -no-shutdown -nographic -serial null -serial mon:stdio
Additionally, the new code is also smaller than the old one and we have
less s390x-specific code in vl.c :-)
I've also checked that migration still works as expected by migrating
a guest with console output back and forth between a qemu-system-s390x
that has this patch and an instance without this patch.

Commit 4486e89c21 ("vl: introduce
vm_shutdown()") added a bdrv_drain_all() call. As a side-effect of the
drain operation the block job iterates one more time than before. The
185 output no longer matches and the test is failing now.
It may be possible to avoid the superfluous block job iteration, but
that type of patch is not suitable late in the QEMU 2.12 release cycle.
This patch simply updates the 185 output file. The new behavior is
correct, just not optimal, so make the test pass again.

qemu-iotests doesn't support dmg, and the dmg block driver doesn't
support image creation. Two test cases declare dmg as supported, but
that's obviously wrong for both reasons. Remove the declaration.

Support "generic" formats like in bash tests with their
_supported_fmt generic
The test, supporting "generic" formats will run if IMGFMT_GENERIC =
true, which is default, except for bochs and cloop. However, you can
use verify_image_format(['generic', 'bochs']), which will run for all
except cloop (for this moment).
Also, add an assert (we don't want set both arguments) and remove
duplication.

If there are more than one events, wait_until_completed() might return
the 2nd event even if the 1st event is JOB_COMPLETED, since the for loop
will continue to run even if completed is set to True.
It never happened before, but it can be triggered when OOB is enabled
due to the RESUME startup message. Fix that up.

The apt-get commands we run through ssh expect certain features of the
tty, and refuses to work if /dev/null is used. It is ugly, but easy to
satisfy.
Actually, there is no reason to hide the output. It just makes things
harder to diagnose. We can always redirect in the Makefile, so don't do
it conditionally here.

The TLS test cert generation relies on a fixed set of algorithms that are
only usable under GNUTLS' default priority setting. When building QEMU
with a custom distro specific priority setting, this can cause the TLS
tests to fail. By forcing the tests to always use "NORMAL" priority we
can make them more robust.

L2 entries for compressed clusters have a field that indicates the
number of sectors used to store the data in the image.
That's however not the size of the compressed data itself, just the
number of sectors where that data is located. The actual data size is
usually not a multiple of the sector size, and therefore cannot be
represented with this field.
The way it works is that QEMU reads all the specified sectors and
starts decompressing the data until there's enough to recover the
original uncompressed cluster. If there are any bytes left that
haven't been decompressed they are simply ignored.
One consequence of this is that even if the size field is larger than
it needs to be QEMU can handle it just fine: it will read more data
from disk but it will ignore the extra bytes.
This test creates an image with two compressed clusters that use 5
sectors (2.5 KB) each, increases the size field to the maximum (8192
sectors, or 4 MB) and verifies that the data can be read without
problems.
This test is important because while the decompressed data takes
exactly one cluster, the maximum value allowed in the compressed size
field is twice the cluster size. So although QEMU won't produce images
with such large values we need to make sure that it can handle them.
Another effect of increasing the size field is that it can make
it include data from the following host cluster(s). In this case
'qemu-img check' will detect that the refcounts are not correct, and
we'll need to rebuild them.
Additionally, this patch also tests that decreasing the size corrupts
the image since the original data can no longer be recovered. In this
case QEMU returns an error when trying to read the compressed data,
but 'qemu-img check' doesn't see anything wrong if the refcounts are
consistent.
One possible task for the future is to make 'qemu-img check' verify
the sizes of the compressed clusters, by trying to decompress the data
and checking that the size stored in the L2 entry is correct.

example ppc64le machine target is ppc64. Let's introduce "qemu_arch"
variable to store the matching qemu architecture related to the current

Commit ac64273c66 modified the output of iotest 186, changing
the QOM path of floppy drives from /machine/unattached/device[17] to
/machine/unattached/device[13].
Instead of updating the test output to reflect this change, this patch
adds a new filter that hides all QOM paths from the 'Attached to:'
line of the 'info block' command.

The warning is a false positive (we have two buffers of size 128,
so yes, if we FULLY used the first buffer, then sprint'ing it into
the second will overflow the second). But in practice, our first
buffer will not be longer than "/visitor/serialization/String",
so sizing it smaller is enough to let gcc see that we don't
overflow the second.

The value of CCOUNT special register is calculated as time elapsed
since CCOUNT == 0 multiplied by the core frequency. In icount mode time
increment between consecutive instructions that don't involve time
warps is constant, but unless the result of multiplication of this
constant by the core frequency is a whole number the CCOUNT increment
between these instructions may not be constant. E.g. with icount=7 each
instruction takes 128ns, with core clock of 10MHz CCOUNT values for
consecutive instructions are:
502: (128 * 502 * 10000000) / 1000000000 = 642.56
503: (128 * 503 * 10000000) / 1000000000 = 643.84
504: (128 * 504 * 10000000) / 1000000000 = 645.12
I.e.the CCOUNT increments depend on the absolute time. This results in
varying CCOUNT differences for consecutive instructions in tests that
involve time warps and don't set CCOUNT explicitly.
Change frequency of the core used in tests so that clock cycle takes
exactly 64ns. Change icount power used in tests to 6, so that each
instruction takes exactly 1 clock cycle. With these changes CCOUNT
increments only depend on the number of executed instructions and that's
what timer tests expect, so they work correctly.

Before the chardev name fix, the following error may happen: "attempt
to add duplicate property 'chr-test' to object (type 'container')",
due to races.
Sadly, error_vprintf() uses g_test_message(), so you have to use
read the cryptic --debug-log to see it. Later, it would make sense to
use g_critical() instead, and catch errors with
g_test_expect_message() (in glib 2.34).

When we try to allocate new clusters we first look for available ones
starting from s->free_cluster_index and once we find them we increase
their reference counts. Before we get to call update_refcount() to do
this last step s->free_cluster_index is already pointing to the next
cluster after the ones we are trying to allocate.
During update_refcount() it may happen however that we also need to
allocate a new refcount block in order to store the refcounts of these
new clusters (and to complicate things further that may also require
us to grow the refcount table). After all this we don't know if the
clusters that we originally tried to allocate are still available, so
we return -EAGAIN to ask the caller to restart the search for free
clusters.
This is what can happen in a common scenario:
1) We want to allocate a new cluster and we see that cluster N is
free.
2) We try to increase N's refcount but all refcount blocks are full,
so we allocate a new one at N+1 (where s->free_cluster_index was
pointing at).
3) Once we're done we return -EAGAIN to look again for a free
cluster, but now s->free_cluster_index points at N+2, so that's
the one we allocate. Cluster N remains unallocated and we have a
hole in the qcow2 file.
This can be reproduced easily:
qemu-img create -f qcow2 -o cluster_size=512 hd.qcow2 1M
qemu-io -c 'write 0 124k' hd.qcow2
After this the image has 132608 bytes (256 clusters), and the refcount
block is full. If we write 512 more bytes it should allocate two new
clusters: the data cluster itself and a new refcount block.
qemu-io -c 'write 124k 512' hd.qcow2
However the image has now three new clusters (259 in total), and the
first one of them is empty (and unallocated):
dd if=hd.qcow2 bs=512c skip=256 count=1 | hexdump -C
If we write larger amounts of data in the last step instead of the 512
bytes used in this example we can create larger holes in the qcow2
file.
What this patch does is reset s->free_cluster_index to its previous
value when alloc_refcount_block() returns -EAGAIN. This way the caller
will try to allocate again the original clusters if they are still
free.
The output of iotest 026 also needs to be updated because now that
images have no holes some tests fail at a different point and the
number of leaked clusters is different.

Commit d4e5ec877 already fixed things to work around Python 3's
lame bug of having LC_ALL=C not be 8-bit clean, when parsing the
main QMP qapi files; but failed to do likewise in the tests
directory. As a result, running 'LC_ALL=C make check' fails on
escape-too-big and unicode-str when using python 3 with a nasty
stack trace instead of the intended graceful error message that
QAPI doesn't yet support 8-bit data (the two tests contain
Unicode é, when parsed in UTF-8; they represent something
different when parsed in a proper single-byte C locale, but that
doesn't matter to the error message printed out, provided that
brain-dead Python hasn't first choked on the input instead of
being 8-bit clean).
Ideally, we'd teach the qapi generator scripts to automatically
slurp things in using UTF-8 regardless of locale, and to honor
content that is not limited to 7 bit data rather than gracefully
erroring out; but until then, since our graceful error depends
on python parsing 8-bit data (even if nothing we generate uses
8-bit data), our quick fix is to use the right locale when
running these tests.

Enabling OOB caused several iotests failures; due to the imminent
2.12 release, the safest action is to disable OOB for now. If
other patches fix the issues that iotests exposed, it may be turned
back on in time for the release, otherwise it will be 2.13 material;
either way, the framework changes not reverted now do not hurt if
they remain as part of the 2.12 release.
Additionally, revert the tests in the patch 02130314d8 ("qmp: introduce
QMPCapability", 2018-03-19), as both parts must be reverted at once
to keep 'make check' passing.

Testing the exit code only once after a whole group of tests has
completed is not enough, it catches errors only in the very last qemu
invocation. We need to have the check after each qemu run.
The logging and diff with the reference output is still done once per
group to keep things more managable. This is not a problem because the
log file accumulates the output of all runs.

QEMU now builds one SRAT memory affinity structure for each PC-DIMM
and NVDIMM device presented at boot time with the proximity domain
specified in the device option 'node', rather than only one SRAT
memory affinity structure covering the entire hotpluggable address
space with the proximity domain of the last node.
Add test cases on PC and Q35 machines with 4 proximity domains, and
one PC-DIMM and one NVDIMM attached to the 2nd and 3rd proximity
domains respectively. Check whether the QEMU-built SRAT tables match
with the expected ones.
The following ACPI tables need to be added for this test:

Ed-script diffs are awful compared to context diffs. Fix another
'diff -q' while in the area (if the files are different, being
noisy makes it easier to diagnose why).
While at it, diff .err before .out, because if a test fails, .err
is more likely to contain the most important information for
fixing the failure.

First, we send a lock=true and oob=false command to hang the main
thread. Then send another lock=false and oob=true command (which will
be run inside parser this time) to free that hanged command.

Here "oob" stands for "Out-Of-Band". When "allow-oob" is set, it means
the command allows out-of-band execution.
The "oob" idea is proposed by Markus Armbruster in following thread:

This new "allow-oob" boolean will be exposed by "query-qmp-schema" as
well for command entries, so that QMP clients can know which commands
can be used in out-of-band calls. For example the command "migrate"
originally looks like:

There were no QMP capabilities defined. Define the first capability,
"oob", to allow out-of-band messages.
After this patch, we will allow QMP clients to enable QMP capabilities
when sending the first "qmp_capabilities" command. Originally we are
starting QMP session with no arguments like:

Now we can enable some QMP capabilities using (take OOB as example,
which is the only capability that we support):

When the "arguments" key is not provided, no capability is enabled.
For capability "oob", the monitor needs to be run on a dedicated IO
thread, otherwise the command will fail. For example, trying to enable
OOB on a MUXed typed QMP monitor will fail.
One thing to mention is that QMP capabilities are per-monitor, and also
when the connection is closed due to some reason, the capabilities will
be reset.
Also, touch up qmp-test.c to test the new bits.

CentOS 6 lacks a realpath binary on the base install, which makes
all iotests runs fail since the 2.11 release:

Many of the uses of 'realpath' in the check script were being
used on the output of 'type -p' - but that is already an
absolute file name. While a canonical name can often be
shorter (realpath gets rid of /../), it can also be longer (due
to symlink expansion); and we really don't care if the name is
canonical, merely that it was an executable file with an
absolute path. These were broken in commit cceaf1db.
The remaining use of realpath was to convert a possibly relative
filename into an absolute one before calling diff to make it
easier to copy-and-paste the filename for moving the .bad file
into place as the new reference file even when running iotests
out-of-tree (see commit 93e53fb6), but $PWD can achieve the same
purpose.

When doing drive mirror to a low speed shared storage, if there was heavy
BLK IO write workload in VM after the 'ready' event, drive mirror block job
can't be canceled immediately, it would keep running until the heavy BLK IO
workload stopped in the VM.
Libvirt depends on the current block-job-cancel semantics, which is that
when used without a flag after the 'ready' event, the command blocks
until data is in sync. However, these semantics are awkward in other
situations, for example, people may use drive mirror for realtime
backups while still wanting to use block live migration. Libvirt cannot
start a block live migration while another drive mirror is in progress,
but the user would rather abandon the backup attempt as broken and
proceed with the live migration than be stuck waiting for the current
drive mirror backup to finish.
The drive-mirror command already includes a 'force' flag, which libvirt
does not use, although it documented the flag as only being useful to
quit a job which is paused. However, since quitting a paused job has
the same effect as abandoning a backup in a non-paused job (namely, the
destination file is not in sync, and the command completes immediately),
we can just improve the documentation to make the force flag obviously
useful.

Originally we added parallels as a read-only format to qemu-iotests
where we did just some tests with a binary image. Since then, write and
image creation support has been added to the driver, so we can now
enable it in _supported_fmt generic.
The driver doesn't support migration yet, though, so we need to add it
to the list of exceptions in 181.

Expose the "manual" property via QAPI for the backup-related jobs.

Which commands ("verbs") are appropriate for jobs in which state is
also somewhat burdensome to keep track of.
As of this commit, it looks rather useless, but begins to look more
interesting the more states we add to the STM table.
A recurring theme is that no verb will apply to an 'undefined' job.
Further, it's not presently possible to restrict the "pause" or "resume"
verbs any more than they are in this commit because of the asynchronous
nature of how jobs enter the PAUSED state; justifications for some
seemingly erroneous applications are given below.

'created': Requests that the job pauses as it starts.
'running': Normal usage. (PAUSED)
'paused': The job may be paused for internal reasons,

To facilitate "nice" error checking, all five major block-job verb
interfaces in blockjob.c now support an errp parameter:
- block_job_user_cancel is added as a new interface.
- block_job_user_pause gains an errp paramter
- block_job_user_resume gains an errp parameter
- block_job_set_speed already had an errp parameter.
- block_job_complete already had an errp parameter.

block-job-pause and block-job-resume will no longer no-op when trying
to pause an already paused job, or trying to resume a job that isn't
paused. These functions will now report that they did not perform the
action requested because it was not possible.
iotests have been adjusted to address this new behavior.

block-job-complete doesn't worry about checking !block_job_started,
because the permission table guards against this.
(4)
test-bdrv-drain's job implementation needs to announce that it is
'ready' now, in order to be completed.

Split out the pause command into the actual pause and the wait.
Not every usage presently needs to resubmit a pause request.
The intent with the next commit will be to explicitly disallow
redundant or meaningless pause/resume requests, so the tests
need to become more judicious to reflect that.

We're about to add several new states, and booleans are becoming
unwieldly and difficult to reason about. It would help to have a
more explicit bookkeeping of the state of blockjobs. To this end,
add a new "status" field and add our existing states in a redundant
manner alongside the bools they are replacing:
UNDEFINED: Placeholder, default state. Not currently visible to QMP
unless changes occur in the future to allow creating jobs
without starting them via QMP.
CREATED: replaces !!job->co && paused && !busy
RUNNING: replaces effectively (!paused && busy)
PAUSED: Nearly redundant with info->paused, which shows pause_count.
This reports the actual status of the job, which almost always
matches the paused request status. It differs in that it is
strictly only true when the job has actually gone dormant.
READY: replaces job->ready.
STANDBY: Paused, but job->ready is true.
New state additions in coming commits will not be quite so redundant:
WAITING: Waiting on transaction. This job has finished all the work
it can until the transaction converges, fails, or is canceled.
PENDING: Pending authorization from user. This job has finished all the
work it can until the job or transaction is finalized via
block_job_finalize. This implies the transaction has converged
and left the WAITING phase.
ABORTING: Job has encountered an error condition and is in the process
of aborting.
CONCLUDED: Job has ceased all operations and has a return code available
for query and may be dismissed via block_job_dismiss.
NULL: Job has been dismissed and (should) be destroyed. Should never
be visible to QMP.
Some of these states appear somewhat superfluous, but it helps define the
expected flow of a job; so some of the states wind up being synchronous
empty transitions. Importantly, jobs can be in only one of these states
at any given time, which helps code and external users alike reason about
the current condition of a job unambiguously.

It's one less case we have to worry about when we add more states to the
transition machine. This way, we can just treat all job lifetimes exactly
the same. This helps tighten assertions of the STM graph and removes some
conditionals that would have been needed in the coming commits adding a
more explicit job lifetime management API.

The "40p" machine is using the Open Hack'Ware BIOS, just like the "prep"
machine, so we can test it accordingly with the boot-serial tester, too.
While we're at it, also change the strings that we are using for the
"prep" machine, so that this test now also checks some CLI parameters.

there is no point to read fields here but not actually
checking them so drop it and read only header + dsdt/facs
addresses since it's needed later to fetch that tables.
With this cleanup we can get rid of AcpiFadtDescriptorRev3/
ACPI_FADT_COMMON_DEF which have no users left.

This test case adds an NBD server export and then invokes
blockdev-snapshot-sync, which changes the BlockDriverState node that the
NBD server's BlockBackend points to. This is an interesting scenario to

Commit afe35cde6 added additional actions to test 33, but forgot
to reset the image between tests. As a result, './check -nbd 33'
fails because the qemu-nbd process from the first half is still
occupying the port, preventing the second half from starting a
new qemu-nbd process. Worse, the failure leaves a rogue qemu-nbd
process behind even after the test fails, which causes knock-on
failures to later tests that also want to start qemu-nbd.

When starting QEMU management apps will usually setup a monitor socket, and
then open it immediately after startup. If not using QEMU's own -daemonize
arg, this process can be troublesome to handle correctly. The mgmt app will
need to repeatedly call connect() until it succeeds, because it does not
know when QEMU has created the listener socket. If can't retry connect()
forever though, because an error might have caused QEMU to exit before it
even creates the monitor.
The obvious way to fix this kind of problem is to just pass in a pre-opened
socket file descriptor for the QEMU monitor to listen on. The management
app can now immediately call connect() just once. If connect() fails it
knows that QEMU has exited with an error.
The SocketAddress(Legacy) structs allow for FD passing via the monitor, and
now via inherited file descriptors from the process that spawned QEMU. The
final missing piece is adding a 'fd' parameter in the socket chardev
options.
This allows both HMP usage, pass any FD number with SCM_RIGHTS, then
running HMP commands:

chardev-add socket,fd=myfd
Note that numeric FDs cannot be referenced directly in HMP, only named FDs.
And also CLI usage, by leak FD 3 from parent by clearing O_CLOEXEC, then
spawning QEMU with
-chardev socket,fd=3,id=mon
-mon chardev=mon,mode=control
Note that named FDs cannot be referenced in CLI args, only numeric FDs.
We do not wire this up in the legacy chardev syntax, so you cannot use FD
passing with '-qmp', you must use the modern '-mon' + '-chardev' pair.
When passing pre-opened FDs there is a restriction on use of TLS encryption.
It can be used on a server socket chardev, but cannot be used for a client
socket chardev. This is because when validating a server's certificate, the
client needs to have a hostname available to match against the certificate
identity.

The SocketAddress 'fd' kind accepts the name of a file descriptor passed
to the monitor with the 'getfd' command. This makes it impossible to use
the 'fd' kind in cases where a monitor is not available. This can apply in
handling command line argv at startup, or simply if internal code wants to
use SocketAddress and pass a numeric FD it has acquired from elsewhere.
Fortunately the 'getfd' command mandated that the FD names must not start
with a leading digit. We can thus safely extend semantics of the
SocketAddress 'fd' kind, to allow a purely numeric name to reference an
file descriptor that QEMU already has open. There will be restrictions on
when each kind can be used.
In codepaths where we are handling a monitor command (ie cur_mon != NULL),
we will only support use of named file descriptors as before. Use of FD
numbers is still not permitted for monitor commands.
In codepaths where we are not handling a monitor command (ie cur_mon ==
NULL), we will not support named file descriptors. Instead we can reference
FD numers explicitly. This allows the app spawning QEMU to intentionally
"leak" a pre-opened socket to QEMU and reference that in a SocketAddress
definition, or for code inside QEMU to pass pre-opened FDs around.

The SocketAddress struct has an "fd" type, which references the name of a
file descriptor passed over the monitor using the "getfd" command. We
currently blindly assume the FD is a socket, which can lead to hard to
diagnose errors later. This adds an explicit check that the FD is actually
a socket to improve the error diagnosis.

Introduce ChardevClass.chr_machine_done() hook so that chardevs can run
customized procedures after machine init.
There was an existing mux user already that did similar thing but used a
raw machine done notifier. Generalize it into a framework, and let the
mux chardevs provide such a class-specific hook to achieve the same
thing. Then we can move the mux related code to the char-mux.c file.
Since at it, replace the mux_realized variable with the global
machine_init_done varible.
This notifier framework will be further leverged by other type of
chardevs soon.

There is a race between the test's 'query-migrate' QMP command after the
QMP 'STOP' event and completing the migration:
The test case invokes 'query-migrate' upon receiving 'STOP'. At this
point the migration thread may still be in the process of completing.
Therefore 'query-migrate' can return 'status': 'active' for a brief
window of time instead of 'status': 'completed'. This results in
qemu-iotests 203 hanging.
Solve the race by enabling the 'events' migration capability, which
causes QEMU to emit migration-specific QMP events that do not suffer
from this race condition. Wait for the QMP 'MIGRATION' event with
'status': 'completed'.

This patch tweaks TestParallelOps in iotest 030 so it allocates data
in smaller regions (256KB/512KB instead of 512KB/1MB) and the
block-stream job in test_stream_commit() only needs to copy data that
is at the very end of the image.
This way when the block-stream job is awakened it will finish right
away without any chance of being stopped by block_job_sleep_ns(). This
triggers the bug that was fixed by 3d5d319e12 and
1a63a90750 and is therefore a more useful test
case for parallel block jobs.
After this patch the aforementiond bug can also be reproduced with the
test_stream_parallel() test case.
Since with this change the stream job in test_stream_commit() finishes
early, this patch introduces a similar test case where both jobs are
slowed down so they can actually run in parallel.

The AFL image is to exercise the code validating image size, which
doesn't work on 32 bit or when out of memory (there is a large
allocation before the interesting point). So check that and skip the
test, instead of faking the result.

Instead of manually creating the BlockdevCreateOptions object, use a
visitor to parse the given options into the QAPI object.
This involves translation from the old command line syntax to the syntax
mandated by the QAPI schema. Option names are still checked against
qcow2_create_opts, so only the old option names are allowed on the
command line, even if they are translated in qcow2_create().
In contrast, new option values are optionally recognised besides the old
values: 'compat' accepts 'v2'/'v3' as an alias for '0.10'/'1.1', and
'encrypt.format' accepts 'qcow' as an alias for 'aes' now.

'qemu-img check' cannot detect if a snapshot's L1 table is corrupted.
This patch checks the table's offset and size and reports corruption
if the values are not valid.
This patch doesn't add code to fix that corruption yet, only to detect
and report it.

This function deletes a snapshot from disk, removing its entry from
the snapshot table, freeing its L1 table and decreasing the refcounts
of all clusters.
The L1 table offset and size are however not validated. If we use
invalid values in this function we'll probably corrupt the image even
more, so we should return an error instead.
We now have a function to take care of this, so let's use it.

This function checks that the offset and size of a table are valid.
While the offset checks are fine, the size check is too generic, since
it only verifies that the total size in bytes fits in a 64-bit
integer. In practice all tables used in qcow2 have much smaller size
limits, so the size needs to be checked again for each table using its
actual limit.
This patch generalizes this function by allowing the caller to specify
the maximum size for that table. In addition to that it allows passing
an Error variable.
The function is also renamed and made public since we're going to use
it in other parts of the code.

machines was quite a bad idea (see description of commit f778a82f0c
for details). This is marked as deprecated since QEMU v2.9.0, and as

qio_task_run_in_thread() allows main thread to run blocking operations
in the background. However it has an assumption on that it's always
working with the default context. This patch tries to allow the threaded
QIO task framework to run with non-default gcontext.
Currently no functional change so far, so the QIOTasks are still always
running on main context.

They are deprecated since QEMU v2.10, and so far nobody complained that
these commands are still necessary for any reason - and since you can use
'netdev_add' and 'netdev_remove' instead, there also should not be any
real reason. Since they are also standing in the way for the upcoming
'vlan' clean-up, it's now time to remove them.

Move qapi-schema.json to qapi/, so it's next to its modules, and all
files get generated to qapi/, not just the ones generated for modules.
Consistently name the generated files qapi-MODULE.EXT:
qmp-commands.[ch] become qapi-commands.[ch], qapi-event.[ch] become
qapi-events.[ch], and qmp-introspect.[ch] become qapi-introspect.[ch].
This gets rid of the temporary hacks in scripts/qapi/commands.py,
scripts/qapi/events.py, and scripts/qapi/common.py.

The previous commit improved compile time by including less of the
generated QAPI headers. This is impossible for stuff defined directly
in qapi-schema.json, because that ends up in headers that that pull in
everything.
Move everything but include directives from qapi-schema.json to new
sub-module qapi/misc.json, then include just the "misc" shard where
possible.
It's possible everywhere, except:
* monitor.c needs qmp-command.h to get qmp_init_marshal()
* monitor.c, ui/vnc.c and the generated qapi-event-FOO.c need
qapi-event.h to get enum QAPIEvent
Perhaps we'll get rid of those some other day.
Adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 120 instead
of 2300 out of 5100 objects.

In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in
qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100
objects.
The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h,
qapi-types.h. Each of these headers still includes all its shards.
Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need.
To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now
recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects. The next commit will
improve it further.

The include directive permits modular QAPI schemata, but the generated
code is monolithic all the same. To permit generating modular code,
the front end needs to pass more information on inclusions to the back
ends. The commit before last added the necessary information to the
parse tree. This commit adds it to the intermediate representation
and its QAPISchemaVisitor. A later commit will use this to to
generate modular code.
New entity QAPISchemaInclude represents inclusions. Call new visitor
method visit_include() for it, so visitors can see the sub-modules a
module includes.
Note that unlike other entities, QAPISchemaInclude has no name, and is
therefore not added to entity_dict.
New QAPISchemaEntity attribute @module names the entity's source file.
Call new visitor method visit_module() when it changes during a visit,
so visitors can keep track of the module being visited.

Whenever qapi-schema.json changes, we run six programs eleven times to
update eleven files. Similar for qga/qapi-schema.json. This is
silly. Replace the six programs by a single program that spits out
all eleven files.
The programs become modules in new Python package qapi, along with the
helper library. This requires moving them to scripts/qapi/. While
moving them, consistently drop executable mode bits.

Every generator has separate boilerplate for .h and .c, and their
differences are boring. All of them repeat the license note.
Reduce the repetition as follows. Move common text like the license
note to common open_output(), next to the existing common text there.
For each generator, replace the two separate descriptions by a single
one.
While there, emit an "automatically generated" note into generated
documentation, too.

This new test case only makes sense for qcow2 while iotest 033 is generic;
however it matches the test purpose perfectly and also 033 contains those
do_test() tricks to pass the alignment, which won't look nice being
duplicated in other tests or moved to the common code.

Commit 92b540dac9 introduce a counter to handle the timeouts in a
better way. But in case ccnt reaches 512, the current read character is
ignored - and if that character is part of the string that we are looking
for, the test fails to match the string.
Almost all of the tests look for a string within the first 512 bytes of
firmware output, so the problem never triggered there. But the hppa test
that has been added recently looks for a longer string at the very end of
a long output, thus there's a chance that we miss a character there so
that the test fails unexpectedly. Fix it by *not* reading and dropping a
character if the counter reaches 512.

The code wrongly passes the mode to open() only if O_WRONLY is set.
Instead, the mode should be passed when O_CREAT is set (or O_TMPFILE on
Linux). Fix this by always passing the mode since open() will correctly
ignore the mode if it is not needed. Add a testcase which exercises this
bug and also change the existing testcase to check that the mode of the
created file is correct.

The m48t59 test has been disabled in commit baeddded5f
("sparc: disable qtest in make check"), likely due to some timing issues
in the bcd_check_time tests which might fail if it gets interrupted for
too long. It should be OK to re-enable this test if we make sure that we
do not run it on timing-sensitive machines, thus it should be OK if we only
run it in the g_test_slow() mode.
Additionally, there are two other issues:
First, the test can not run so easily on sparc64 anymore, since commit
f3b18f35a2 ("sun4u: switch m48t59 NVRAM to MMIO access")
moved the m48t59 device to the ebus instead, and for this you first
have to set up the corresponding PCI device (which is currently not
possible from within the m48t59 test). So we can only re-enable this
test on sparc, but not the sparc64 target.
Second, the fuzzing test is executed before the bcd-check-time test
(due to the naming of the tests), without having the base address set
up properly, so the fuzzing test does not really check anything at all.
Fix it by setting up the base address from the main function already
and by moving the qtest_start() to the tests themselves, so that each
test starts with a clean environment (since after the fuzzing, the clock
is unusable for the bcd-check-time test).

Drop one more client of global_qtest by teaching all remaining
libqos stragglers to pass in an explicit QTestState. Change the
setting of global_qtest from being implicit in libqos' call to
qtest_start() to instead be explicit in all clients that are
still relying on global_qtest.
Note that qmp_execute() can be greatly simplified in the process,
and that we also get rid of interpolation of a JSON string into a
temporary variable when qtest_qmp() can do it more reliably.

When initializing a QPCIBus, track which QTestState the bus is
associated with (so that a later patch can then explicitly use
that test state for all communication on the bus, rather than
blindly relying on global_qtest). Update the initialization
functions to take another parameter, and update all callers to
pass in state (for now, most callers get away with passing the
current global_qtest as the current state, although this required
fixing the order of initialization to ensure qtest_start() is
called before qpci_init*() in rtl8139-test, and provided an
opportunity to pass in the allocator in e1000e-test).
Touch up some allocations to use g_new0() rather than g_malloc()
while in the area, and simplify some code (all implementations
of QOSOps provide a .init_allocator() that never fails).

The boot block used in the migration test is currently only
shipped as a hex (with the source in the git commit message of ea0c6d62),
change this to actually include the source.
A script is added to rebuild the header but the expectation is that
the generated hex is shipped as well as the .s, so that
there's no requirement to have just the right assembler etc.

We still use hacks like qmp("") to wait for an event, even though we
have qmp_eventwait() since commit 8fe941f, and qmp_eventwait_ref()
since commit 7ffe312. Both commits neglected to convert all the
existing hacks. Make up what they missed.
Bonus: gets rid of empty format strings. A step towards compile-time
format string checking without triggering -Wformat-zero-length.

It turns out that FADT isn't actually tested for changes
against reference table, since it happens to be the 1st
table in RSDT which is currently ignored.
Fix it by making sure that all tables from RSDT are added
to test list.
NOTE: FADT contains guest allocated pointers to FACS/DSDT,
zero them out so that possible FACS/DSDT address change
won't affect test results.

expand_zero_clusters_in_l1() is used when downgrading qcow2 images
from v3 to v2 (compat=0.10). This is one of the functions that needed
more changes to support L2 slices, so this patch extends iotest 061 to
test downgrading a qcow2 image using a smaller slice size.

To maintain load/store disabled bitmap there is new approach:
- deprecate @autoload flag of block-dirty-bitmap-add, make it ignored
- store enabled bitmaps as "auto" to qcow2
- store disabled bitmaps without "auto" flag to qcow2
- on qcow2 open load "auto" bitmaps as enabled and others
as disabled (except in_use bitmaps)
Also, adjust iotests 165 and 176 appropriately.

This reverts commit 76bf133c4 which updated the reference output, and
fixed the reference image, because the code path we want to exercise is
actually the invalid image size.
The descriptor block in the image, which includes the CID to verify, has been
invalid since the reference image was added. Since commit 9877860e7b we report
this error earlier than the "file too large", so 059.out mismatches.
The binary change is generated along the operations of:

qemu-common.h includes qemu/option.h, but most places that include the
former don't actually need the latter. Drop the include, and add it
to the places that actually need it.
While there, drop superfluous includes of both headers, and
separate #include from file comment with a blank line.
This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qemu/option.h
drop from 4545 (out of 4743) to 284 in my "build everything" tree.

This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qapi/qmp/qdict.h
drop from 4550 (out of 4743) to 368 in my "build everything" tree.
For qapi/qmp/qobject.h, the number drops from 4552 to 390.
While there, separate #include from file comment with a blank line.

The macro expansions of qdict_put_TYPE() and qlist_append_TYPE() need
qbool.h, qnull.h, qnum.h and qstring.h to compile. We include qnull.h
and qnum.h in the headers, but not qbool.h and qstring.h. Works,
because we include those wherever the macros get used.
Open-coding these helpers is of dubious value. Turn them into
functions and drop the includes from the headers.
This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qapi/qmp/qnum.h
from 4551 (out of 4743) to 46 in my "build everything" tree. For
qapi/qmp/qnull.h, the number drops from 4552 to 21.

qapi/qmp/types.h is a convenience header to include a number of
qapi/qmp/ headers. Since we rarely need all of the headers
qapi/qmp/types.h includes, we bypass it most of the time. Most of the
places that use it don't need all the headers, either.
Include the necessary headers directly, and drop qapi/qmp/types.h.

This commit was created with scripts/clean-includes, with the change

To make our efforts on QEMU testing easier to consume by contributors,
let's add a document. For example, Patchew reports build errors on
patches that should be relatively easy to reproduce with a few steps, and
it is much nicer if there is such a documentation that it can refer to.
This focuses on how to run existing tests and how to write new test
cases, without going into the frameworks themselves.
The VM based testing section is moved from tests/vm/README which now
is a single line pointing to the new doc.

QemuLockable is a polymorphic lock type that takes an object and
knows which function to use for locking and unlocking. The
implementation could use C11 _Generic, but since the support is
not very widespread I am instead using __builtin_choose_expr and
__builtin_types_compatible_p, which are already used by
include/qemu/atomic.h.
QemuLockable can be used to implement lock guards, or to pass around
a lock in such a way that a function can release it and re-acquire it.
The next patch will do this for CoQueue.

Using "fedora:latest" makes behavior different depending on when you
actually pulled the image from the docker repository. In my case,
the supposedly "latest" image was a Fedora 25 download from 8 months
ago, and the new "test-debug" test was failing.
Use "27" to improve reproducibility and make it clear when the image
is obsolete.

Since we have separate handler on POLLHUP, which drops data
after closing the connection we need to fix this test, because
it sends data and instantly close the socket creating race condition.
In some cases on other end of socket client closes it faster than
reads data. To prevent it I suggest to close socket after recieving.

This will exercise the memfd memory backend and should generally be
better for testing than memory-backend-file (thanks to anonymous files
and sealing).
If memfd is available, it is preferred.
However, in order to check that file & memfd backends both work
correctly, the read-guest-mem test is checked explicitly for each.
