QAPISchemaMember gains .ifcond for enum members: inherited classes,
such as QAPISchemaObjectTypeMember, will thus have an ifcond member
after this (those different types will also use the .ifcond to store
the condition and generate conditional code in the following patches).

The input visitor has some problems right now, especially
- unsigned type "Range" is used to process signed ranges, resulting in
inconsistent behavior and ugly/magical code
- uint64_t are parsed like int64_t, so big uint64_t values are not
supported and error messages are misleading
- lists/ranges of int64_t are accepted although no list is parsed and
we should rather report an error
- lists/ranges are preparsed using int64_t, making it hard to
implement uint64_t values or uint64_t lists
- types that don't support lists don't bail out
- visiting beyond the end of a list is not handled properly
- we don't actually parse lists, we parse *sets*: members are sorted,
and duplicates eliminated
So let's rewrite it by getting rid of usage of the type "Range" and
properly supporting lists of int64_t and uint64_t (including ranges of
both types), fixing the above mentioned issues.
Lists of other types are not supported and will properly report an
error. Virtual walks are now supported.
Tests have to be fixed up:
- Two BUGs were hardcoded that are fixed now
- The string-input-visitor now actually returns a parsed list and not
an ordered set.
Please note that no users/callers have to be fixed up. Candidates using
visit_type_uint16List() and friends are:
- backends/hostmem.c:host_memory_backend_set_host_nodes()
-- Code can deal with duplicates/unsorted lists
- numa.c::query_memdev()
-- via object_property_get_uint16List(), the list will still be sorted
and without duplicates (via host_memory_backend_get_host_nodes())
- qapi-visit.c::visit_type_Memdev_members()
- qapi-visit.c::visit_type_NumaNodeOptions_members()
- qapi-visit.c::visit_type_RockerOfDpaGroup_members
- qapi-visit.c::visit_type_RxFilterInfo_members()
-- Not used with string-input-visitor.

Out-of-band command execution was introduced in commit cf869d5317.
Unfortunately, we ran into a regression, and had to turn it into an
experimental option for 2.12 (commit be933ffc23).
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2018-03/msg06231.html
The regression has since been fixed (commit 951702f39c "monitor: bind
dispatch bh to iohandler context"). A thorough re-review of OOB
commands led to a few more issues, which have also been addressed.
This patch partly reverts be933ffc23 (monitor: new parameter "x-oob"),
and makes QMP monitors again offer capability "oob" whenever they can
provide it, i.e. when the monitor's character device is capable of
running in an I/O thread.
Some trivial touch-up in the test code is required to make sure qmp-test
won't break.

Check that block node activation and inactivation works with a block
graph that is built with individually created nodes.
Signed-off-by: Kevin Wolf <kwolf@redhat.com>
Reviewed-by: Max Reitz <mreitz@redhat.com>
The previous patch fixed the inherits_from pointer after block-stream,
and this one does the same for block-commit.
When block-commit finishes and the 'top' node is not the topmost one
from the backing chain then all nodes above 'base' up to and including
'top' are removed from the chain.
The bdrv_drop_intermediate() call converts a chain like this one:
base <- intermediate <- top <- active
into this one:
base <- active
In a simple scenario each backing file from the first chain has the
inherits_from attribute pointing to its parent. This means that
reopening 'active' will recursively reopen all its children, whose
options can be changed in the process.
However after the 'block-commit' call base.inherits_from is NULL and
the chain is broken, so 'base' does not inherit from 'active' and will
not be reopened automatically:
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 hd0.qcow2 1M
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b hd0.qcow2 hd1.qcow2
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b hd1.qcow2 hd2.qcow2
$ $QEMU -drive if=none,file=hd2.qcow2

'command-line':
'qemu-io none0 "reopen -o backing.l2-cache-size=2M"' } }
{ "return": "Cannot change the option 'backing.l2-cache-size'\r\n"}
This patch updates base.inherits_from in this scenario, and adds a
test case.

When a BlockDriverState's child is opened (be it a backing file, the
protocol layer, or any other) inherits_from is set to point to the
parent node. Children opened separately and then attached to a parent
don't have this pointer set.
bdrv_reopen_queue_child() uses this to determine whether a node's
children must also be reopened inheriting the options from the parent
or not. If inherits_from points to the parent then the child is
reopened and its options can be changed, like in this example:
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 hd0.qcow2 1M
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 hd1.qcow2 1M
$ $QEMU -drive if=none,node-name=hd0,file=hd0.qcow2,\
backing.driver=qcow2,backing.file.filename=hd1.qcow2
(qemu) qemu-io hd0 "reopen -o backing.l2-cache-size=2M"
If the child does not inherit from the parent then it does not get
reopened and its options cannot be changed:
$ $QEMU -drive if=none,node-name=hd1,file=hd1.qcow2
-drive if=none,node-name=hd0,file=hd0.qcow2,backing=hd1
(qemu) qemu-io hd0 "reopen -o backing.l2-cache-size=2M"
Cannot change the option 'backing.l2-cache-size'
If a disk image has a chain of backing files then all of them are also
connected through their inherits_from pointers (i.e. it's possible to
walk the chain in reverse order from base to top).
However this is broken if the intermediate nodes are removed using
e.g. block-stream because the inherits_from pointer from the base node
becomes NULL:
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 hd0.qcow2 1M
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b hd0.qcow2 hd1.qcow2
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b hd1.qcow2 hd2.qcow2
$ $QEMU -drive if=none,file=hd2.qcow2
(qemu) qemu-io none0 "reopen -o backing.l2-cache-size=2M"
(qemu) block_stream none0 0 hd0.qcow2
(qemu) qemu-io none0 "reopen -o backing.l2-cache-size=2M"
Cannot change the option 'backing.l2-cache-size'
This patch updates the inherits_from pointer if the intermediate nodes
of a backing chain are removed using bdrv_set_backing_hd(), and adds a
test case for this scenario.

Because the CMB BAR has a min_access_size of 2, if you read the last
byte it will try to memcpy *2* bytes from n->cmbuf, causing an off-by-one
error. This is CVE-2018-16847.
Another way to fix this might be to register the CMB as a RAM memory
region, which would also be more efficient. However, that might be a
change for big-endian machines; I didn't think this through and I don't
know how real hardware works. Add a basic testcase for the CMB in case
somebody does this change later on.

several seconds, as does qemu-img check reporting millions of

In commit 9fa99d2519 ("hw/pci-host: Fix x86 Host Bridges 64bit PCI
hole", 2017-11-16), we meant to expose such a 64-bit PCI MMIO aperture in
the ACPI DSDT that would be at least as large as the new "pci-hole64-size"
property (2GB on i440fx, 32GB on q35). The goal was to offer "enough"
64-bit MMIO aperture to the guest OS for hotplug purposes.
Previous patch fixed the issue that the aperture is extended relative to
a possibly incorrect base. This may result in an aperture size that is
smaller than the intent of commit 9fa99d2519.
This patch adds a test to make sure it won't happen again.
In the test case being added:
- use 128 MB initial RAM size,
- ask for one DIMM hotplug slot,
- ask for 2 GB maximum RAM size,
- use a pci-testdev with a 64-bit BAR of 2 GB size.
Consequences:
(1) In pc_memory_init() [hw/i386/pc.c], the DIMM hotplug area size is
initially set to 2048-128 = 1920 MB. (Maximum RAM size minus initial
RAM size.)
(2) The DIMM area base is set to 4096 MB (because the initial RAM is only
128 MB -- there is no initial "high RAM").
(3) Due to commit 085f8e88ba ("pc: count in 1Gb hugepage alignment when
sizing hotplug-memory container", 2014-11-24), we add 1 GB for the one
DIMM hotplug slot that was specified. This sets the DIMM area size to
1920+1024 = 2944 MB.
(4) The reserved-memory-end address (exclusive) is set to 4096 + 2944 =
7040 MB (DIMM area base plus DIMM area size).
(5) The reserved-memory-end address is rounded up to GB alignment,
yielding 7 GB (7168 MB).
(6) Given the 2 GB BAR size of pci-testdev, SeaBIOS allocates said 64-bit
BAR in 64-bit address space.
(7) Because reserved-memory-end is at 7 GB, it is unaligned for the 2 GB
BAR. Therefore SeaBIOS allocates the BAR at 8 GB. QEMU then
(correctly) assigns the root bridge aperture base this BAR address, to
be exposed in \_SB.PCI0._CRS.
(8) The intent of commit 9fa99d2519 dictates that QEMU extend the
aperture size to 32 GB, implying a 40 GB end address. However, QEMU
performs the extension relative to reserved-memory-end (7 GB), not
relative to the bridge aperture base that was correctly deduced from
SeaBIOS's BAR programming (8 GB). Therefore we see 39 GB as the
aperture end address in \_SB.PCI0._CRS:

by the hexloader-test, and configure individually symlinks those
data files into the build directory using a wildcard.
Using a wildcard like this is a bad idea, because if a new
data file is added, nothing causes configure to be rerun,
and so no symlink is added for the new file. This can cause
tests to spuriously fail when they can't find their data.
Instead, it's better to symlink an entire directory of
data files. We already have such a directory: tests/data.

no copying is required.
(We can't just change the existing tests/acpi-test-data/
to being a symlinked directory, because if we did that and
a developer switched git branches from one after that change
to one before it then configure would end up trashing all
the test files by making them symlinks to themselves.

This adds some whitespace into the option help (including indentation)
and puts angle brackets around the type names. Furthermore, the list
name is no longer printed as part of every line, but only once in
advance, and only if the caller did not print a caption already.
This patch also restores the description alignment we had before commit
9cbef9d68e, just at 24 instead of 16 characters like we used to.
This increase is because now we have the type and two spaces of
indentation before the description, and with a usual type name length of
three chracters, this sums up to eight additional characters -- which
means that we now need 24 characters to get the same amount of padding
for most options. Also, 24 is a third of 80, which makes it kind of a
round number in terminal terms.
Finally, this patch amends the reference output of iotest 082 to match
the changes (and thus makes it pass again).

While testing the Python 3 changes which touch the 083 test, I noticed
that it would fail with qcow2. Expanding the testing, I noticed it
had nothing to do with the Python 3 changes, and in fact, it would not
pass on anything but raw:
raw: pass
bochs: not generic
cloop: not generic
parallels: fail
qcow: fail
qcow2: fail
qed: fail
vdi: fail
vhdx: fail
vmdk: fail
vpc: fail
luks: fail
The errors are a mixture I/O and "image not in xxx format", such as:
=== Check disconnect before data ===
Unexpected end-of-file before all bytes were read
-read failed: Input/output error
+can't open device nbd+tcp://127.0.0.1:PORT/foo: Could not open 'nbd://127.0.0.1:PORT/foo': Input/output error
=== Check disconnect after data ===
-read 512/512 bytes at offset 0
-512 bytes, X ops; XX:XX:XX.X (XXX YYY/sec and XXX ops/sec)
+can't open device nbd+tcp://127.0.0.1:PORT/foo: Image not in qcow format
I'm not aware if there's a quick fix, so, for the time being, it looks
like the honest approach is to make the test known to work on raw
only.

Python files located in "tests/acceptance" that need to be run

Let's provide a convenient way for QEMU developers to run them,
by making use of the tests-venv with the required setup.
Also, while the Avocado test runner will take care of creating a
location to save test results to, it was understood that it's better
if the results are kept within the build tree.

A number of QEMU tests are written in Python, and may benefit
from an untainted Python venv.
By using make rules, tests that depend on specific Python libs
can set that rule as a requirement, along with rules that require
the presence or installation of specific libraries.
The tests/requirements.txt is supposed to contain the Python
requirements that should be added to the venv created by check-venv.

When dumping an object into the log, there are differences between
Python 2 and 3. First, unicode strings are prefixed by 'u' in Python 2
(they are no longer in 3, because unicode strings are the default
there). Second, the order of keys in dicts may differ. Third,
especially long numbers are longs in Python 2 and thus get an 'L'
suffix, which does not happen in Python 3.
We can get around all of these differences by dumping objects (lists and
dicts) in a language-independent format, namely JSON. The JSON
generator even allows emitting dicts with their keys sorted
alphabetically.
This changes the output of all tests that use these logging functions
(dict keys are ordered now, strings in dicts are now enclosed in double
quotes instead of single quotes, the 'L' suffix of large integers is
dropped, and "true" and "false" are now in lower case).
The quote change necessitates a small change to a filter used in test
207.

There are two imports that need to be modified when running the iotests
under Python 3: One is StringIO, which no longer exists; instead, the
StringIO class comes from the io module, so import it from there (and
use the BytesIO class for Python 2). The other is the ConfigParser,

Python 3.4 introduced the inheritable attribute for FDs. At the same
time, it changed the default so that all FDs are not inheritable by
default, that only inheritable FDs are inherited to subprocesses, and
only if close_fds is explicitly set to False.
Adhere to this by setting close_fds to False when working with
subprocesses that may want to inherit FDs, and by trying to
set_inheritable() on FDs that we do want to bequeath to them.

In Python 3, several functions now return iterators instead of lists.
This includes range(), items(), map(), and filter(). This means that if
we really want a list, we have to wrap those instances with list(). But
then again, the two instances where this is the case for map() and
filter(), there are shorter expressions which work without either
function.
On the other hand, sometimes we do just want an iterator, in which case
we have sometimes used xrange() and iteritems() which no longer exist in
Python 3. Just change these calls to be range() and items(), works in
both Python 2 and 3, and is really what we want in 3 (which is what
matters). But because it is so simple to do (and to find and remove
once we completely switch to Python 3), make range() be an alias for
xrange() in the two affected tests (044 and 163).
In one instance, we only wanted the first instance of the result of a
filter() call. Instead of using next(filter()) which would work only in
Python 3, or list(filter())[0] which would work everywhere but is a bit
weird, this instance is changed to use a generator expression with a
next() wrapped around, which works both in 2.7 and 3.

Since byte strings are no longer the default in Python 3, we have to
explicitly use them where we need to, which is mostly when working with
structures. It also means that we need to open a file in binary mode
when we want to use structures.
On the other hand, we have to accomodate for the fact that some
functions (still) work with byte strings but we want to use unicode
strings (in Python 3 at least, and it does not matter in Python 2).
This includes base64 encoding, but it is most notable when working with
the subprocess module: Either we set universal_newlines to True so that
the default streams are opened in text mode (hence this parameter is
aliased as "text" as of 3.7), or, if that is not possible, we have to
decode the output to a normal string.

so that total number of logical CPUs [sockets * cores * threads]

Deprecate invalid options combination so we can make sure that
the topology VM started with is always correct in the future.

bdrv_img_create() takes an Error ** argument and uses it in the
conventional way, except for one place: when qemu_opts_do_parse()
fails, it first reports its error to stderr or the HMP monitor with
error_report_err(), then error_setg()'s a generic error.
When the caller reports that second error similarly, this produces two
consecutive error messages on stderr or the HMP monitor.
When the caller does something else with it, such as send it via QMP,
the first error still goes to stderr or the HMP monitor. Fortunately,
no such caller exists.
Simply use the first error as is. Update expected output of
qemu-iotest 049 accordingly.

special handling when they fire.
New/init functions family in timer interface updated and refactored (new
'attribute' argument added, timer_list replaced with timer_list_group+type
combinations, comments improved to avoid info duplication). Also existing
aio interface extended with attribute-enabled variants of functions,
which create/initialize timers.

GNU make is perfectly happy to use 'check-FOO-y += bar' to
initialize check-FOO-y. (GNU Automake strictly insists that
you cannot use += until after an initial = per variable, but
thankfully we aren't using automake).
As we have had more than one instance where copy-and-paste of
'check-FOO-y = bar' from a first test under category FOO into
an additional test, which ends up disabling the first (see
commits 992159c7 and 4429532b), it's better to just always use
the form that survives copy-and-paste, even for categories that
don't currently add more than one test.

Several changes:
- We only allow generate header "inside" the tree. Why? Because we
need to connit the result, so it makes no sense to generate them on
the build dir.
- We only generate a single target each time. Getting all the
cross-compilers correctly is an impossible task. So know you do:
make -C tests/migration $target (native)
make CROSS_PREFIX=foo- -C tests/migratiion $target (cross)
And you are done.
- If we are building out of tree, we have no data about if we are
cross-compile or whatever. So instead of guess what is happening,
just do what I pointed on previous point.

Fixed up Makefile since the aarch patch sneaked in first
This patch adds migration test support for aarch64. The test code, which
implements the same functionality as x86, is booted as a kernel in qemu.
Here are the design choices we make for aarch64:
* We choose this -kernel approach because aarch64 QEMU doesn't provide a
built-in fw like x86 does. So instead of relying on a boot loader, we
use -kernel approach for aarch64.
* The serial output is sent to PL011 directly.
* The physical memory base for mach-virt machine is 0x40000000. We change
the start_address and end_address for aarch64.
In addition to providing the binary, this patch also includes the source
code and the build script in tests/migration/aarch64. So users can change
the source and/or re-compile the binary as they wish.

It is yet unclear whether this should really be considered a bug in the
test case or whether blk_unref() should work for callers that haven't
taken the AioContext lock, but in order to fix the build tests quickly,
just take the AioContext lock around blk_unref().

Currently, the default values for werror and rerror have to be set
explicitly with blk_set_on_error() by the callers of blk_new(). The only
caller actually doing this is blockdev_init(), which is called for
BlockBackends created using -drive.
In particular, anonymous BlockBackends created with
-device ...,drive=<node-name> didn't get the correct default set and
instead defaulted to the integer value 0 (= BLOCKDEV_ON_ERROR_REPORT).
This is the intended default for rerror anyway, but the default for
werror should be BLOCKDEV_ON_ERROR_ENOSPC.
Set the defaults in blk_new() instead so that they apply no matter what
way the BlockBackend was created.

Previously, unless 'cache-size' was specified and was large enough, the
L2 cache was set to a certain size without taking the virtual image size
into account.
Now, the L2 cache assignment is aware of the virtual size of the image,
and will cover the entire image, unless the cache size needed for that is
larger than a certain maximum. This maximum is set to 1 MB by default
(enough to cover an 8 GB image with the default cluster size) but can
be increased or decreased using the 'l2-cache-size' option. This option
was previously documented as the *maximum* L2 cache size, and this patch
makes it behave as such, instead of as a constant size. Also, the
existing option 'cache-size' can limit the sum of both L2 and refcount

accesses to the hash table, thereby reaching higher throughputs.
We keep the old behaviour by default, since (1) we might confuse
users if they measured a speedup without changing anything in
the QHT implementation, and (2) benchmarking the hash function
"on line" is also valuable.

Perform first the tests that exercise code paths that are
easier to hit at small table sizes, and then resize the table
to speed up subsequent tests. If this resize is not too large,
we can make the test faster with no code coverage loss.
- With gcov enabled:
Before: 20.568s, 90.28% qht.c coverage
After: 5.168s, 93.06% qht.c coverage
The coverage increase is entirely due to calling qht_resize,
which we weren't calling before. Note that the code paths
that remain to be tested are either error handling or
can only occur when several threads are accessing the
hash table concurrently (e.g. seqlock retry, trylock fail).
- Without gcov:
Before: 1.987s
After: 0.528s
The speedup is almost the same as with gcov, although the
"before" run is a lot faster.

Recently a new configure option, CROSS_CC_GUEST, was added to
$(TARGET)-softmmu/config-target.mak to support TCG-related tests. This
patch tries to leverage this option to support cross compilation when the
migration boot block file is being re-generated:
* The x86 related files are moved to a new sub-dir (named ./i386).
* A new top-layer Makefile is created in tests/migration/ directory.
This Makefile searches and parses CROSS_CC_GUEST to generate CROSS_PREFIX.
The CROSS_PREFIX, if available, is then passed to migration/$ARCH/Makefile.

The x86 boot block header currently is generated with a shell script.
To better support other CPUs (e.g. aarch64), we convert the script
into Makefile. This allows us to 1) support cross-compilation easily,
and 2) avoid creating a script file for every architecture.
Note that, in the new design, the cross compiler prefix can be specified by
setting the CROSS_PREFIX in "make" command. Also to allow gcc pre-processor
to include the C-style file correctly, it also renames the
x86-a-b-bootblock.s file extension from .s to .S.

For the block job drain test, don't only test draining the source and
the target node, but create a backing chain for the source
(source_backing <- source <- source_overlay) and test draining each of
the nodes in it.
When using iothreads, the source node (and therefore the job) is in a
different AioContext than the drain, which happens from the main
thread. This way, the main thread waits in AIO_WAIT_WHILE() for the
iothread to make process and aio_wait_kick() is required to notify it.
The test validates that calling bdrv_wakeup() for a child or a parent
node will actually notify AIO_WAIT_WHILE() instead of letting it hang.
Increase the sleep time a bit (to 1 ms) because the test case is racy
and with the shorter sleep, it didn't reproduce the bug it is supposed
to test for me under 'rr record -n'.
This was because bdrv_drain_invoke_entry() (in the main thread) was only
called after the job had already reached the pause point, so we got a
bdrv_dec_in_flight() from the main thread and the additional
aio_wait_kick() when the job becomes idle (that we really wanted to test
here) wasn't even necessary any more to make progress.

This is a small test that will check for the ability to parse
both legacy and modern options for rbd.
The way the test is set up is for failure to occur, but without
having to wait to timeout on a non-existent rbd server. The error
messages in the success path show that the arguments were parsed.
The failure behavior prior to the patch series that has this test, is
qemu-img complaining about mandatory options (e.g. 'pool') not being
provided.

OpenBIOS gained 40p support in 5b20e4cace
Use it, instead of relying on an unmaintained and very limited firmware.
