Currently, isa-superio.c is always compiled as soon as CONFIG_ISA_BUS
is enabled. But there are also machines that have an ISA BUS without
any of the superio chips attached to it, so we should not compile
isa-superio.c in case we only compile a QEMU for such a machine.
Thus add a proper CONFIG_ISA_SUPERIO switch so that this file only gets
compiled when we really, really need it.

The MIPS Jazz ('magnum' and 'pica61') boards have some code which
overrides the CPU's do_unassigned_access hook, so they can intercept
it and not raise exceptions on data accesses to invalid addresses,
only for instruction fetches.
We want to switch MIPS over to using the do_transaction_failed
hook instead, so add an intercept for that as well, and make
the board code install whichever hook the CPU is actually using.
Once we've changed the CPU implementation we can remove the
redundant code for the old hook.
Note: I am suspicious that the behaviour as implemented here may not
be what the hardware really does. It was added in commit
54e755588c to restore the behaviour that was broken by
commit c658b94f6e. But prior to commit c658b94f6e
every MIPS board generated exceptions for instruction access to
invalid addresses but not for data accesses; and other boards,
notably Malta, were fixed by making all invalid accesses behave as
reads-as-zero (see the call to empty_slot_init() in
mips_malta_init()). Hardware that raises exceptions for instruction
access and not data access seems to me to be an unlikely design, and
it's possible that the right way to emulate this is to make the Jazz
boards do what we did with Malta (or some variation of that).
Nonetheless, since I don't have access to real hardware to test
against I have taken the approach of "make QEMU continue to behave
the same way it did before this commit". I have updated the comment
to correct the parts that are no longer accurate and note that
the hardware might behave differently.
The test case for the need for the hook-hijacking is in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1245924 That BIOS will boot OK
either with this overriding of both hooks, or with a simple "global
memory region to ignore bad accesses of all types", so it doesn't
provide evidence either way, unfortunately.

sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related
to the system-emulator. Evidence:
* It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing
sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600
objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on
qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits).
* It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers.
Split stuff related to run state management into its own header
sysemu/runstate.h.
Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h
also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400
to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects.
Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also
add qemu/main-loop.h.

In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers
a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).
Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h)
actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there
instead.
hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h
and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h.
Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h.
While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h.
Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects.

The global smp variables in alpha/hppa/mips/openrisc/sparc*/xtensa codes
are replaced with smp properties from MachineState.
A local variable of the same name would be introduced in the declaration
phase if it's used widely in the context OR replace it on the spot if it's

To get rid of the global smp_* variables we're currently using, it's recommended
to pass MachineState in the list of incoming parameters for functions that use
global smp variables, thus some redundant parameters are dropped. It's applied
for legacy smbios_*(), *_machine_reset(), hot_add_cpu() and mips *_create_cpu().

The Jazz use the RC4030 Asic to provide an EISA bus and DMA/IRQ.
The framebuffer display is managed by a G364, the network card is
a Sonic DP83932. A QLogic ESP216 provides a SCSI bus.
None, for the both machine variants (PICA-61 and Magnum 4000),
the DP83932 chipset is soldered on the board, and is MMIO-mapped
(selected via Chip Select). Therefore we have to enforce the
'select' Kconfig rule (we can not use the 'imply' rule helpful
when devices are connected on a bus).

Both functions, object_initialize() and object_property_add_child()
increase the reference counter of the new object, so one of the
references has to be dropped afterwards to get the reference
counting right. Otherwise the child object will not be properly
cleaned up when the parent gets destroyed.
Thus let's use now object_initialize_child() instead to get the
reference counting here right.

We let the Malta/Boston machines adopt the CPS child, and similarly
the CPS adopts the ITU/CPC/GIC/GCR children.
While the object_initialize() function doesn't take an
'Error *errp' argument, the object_initialize_child() does.
Since this code is used when a machine is created (and is not
yet running), we deliberately choose to use the &error_abort
argument instead of ignoring errors if an object creation failed.
This choice also matches when using sysbus_init_child_obj(),
since its code is:

Our pflash devices are simplistically modelled has having
"num-blocks" sectors of equal size "sector-length". Real hardware
commonly has sectors of different sizes. How our "sector-length"
property is related to the physical device's multiple sector sizes
is unclear.
Helper functions pflash_cfi01_register() and pflash_cfi02_register()
create a pflash device, set properties including "sector-length" and
"num-blocks", and realize. They take parameters @size, @sector_len
and @nb_blocs.
QOMification left parameter @size unused. Obviously, @size should
match @sector_len and @nb_blocs, i.e. size == sector_len * nb_blocs.
All callers satisfy this.
Remove @nb_blocs and compute it from @size and @sector_len.

pflash_cfi01_register() takes a size in bytes, a block size in bytes
and a number of blocks. mips_malta_init() passes BIOS_SIZE, 65536,
FLASH_SIZE >> 16. Actually consistent only because BIOS_SIZE (defined
in include/hw/mips/bios.h as (4 * MiB)) matches FLASH_SIZE (defined
locally as 0x400000). Confusing all the same.
Pass FLASH_SIZE instead of BIOS_SIZE.

The 'bios_size' variable is only used in the 'if (!kernel_filename &&
!dinfo)' clause. This is the case when we don't provide -pflash command
line option, and also don't provide a -kernel option. In this case we
will check for the -bios option, or use the default BIOS_FILENAME file.
The 'bios' term is valid in this if statement, but is confuse in the
whole mips_malta_init() scope. Restrict his scope.

Variable fl_sectors is used just once. Since
fl_sectors = bios_size >> 16 and bios_size = FLASH_SIZE there,
we can simply use FLASH_SIZE >> 16, and eliminate variable.

flash.h's incomplete struct pflash_t is completed both in
pflash_cfi01.c and in pflash_cfi02.c. The complete types are
incompatible. This can hide type errors, such as passing a pflash_t
created with pflash_cfi02_register() to pflash_cfi01_get_memory().
Furthermore, POSIX reserves typedef names ending with _t.
Rename the two structs to PFlashCFI01 and PFlashCFI02.

The machine comes with 256M memory module by default but it's
upgradable so it could have different memory size. There was a TODO
comment to replace static SPD EEPROM data with dynamically generated
one to support this. Now that we have a function for that, it's easy
to do. Although this would allow larger RAM sizes, the peculiar memory
map of the machine may need some special handling to map it as low and
high memory. Because I don't know what the correct place would be for
highmem, I've left memory size fixed at 256M for now and TODO is moved
there instead.

According to both the specifications on linux-mips.org referenced in a

Make sure BQL is held for all interrupt requests.
For MTTCG-enabled configurations, handling soft and hard interrupts
between vCPUs must be properly locked. By acquiring BQL, make sure
all paths triggering an IRQ are synchronized.

This will be needed by vhost-user-test, when each test switches to
its own GMainLoop and GMainContext. Otherwise, for a reconnecting
socket the initial connection will happen on the default GMainContext,
and no one will be listening on it.

This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to
load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any
ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF
Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg.
If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer
is called to process the ELF note.
Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped.
The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support
which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while
loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the
boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI.

them to spaces so that we don't confuse people.
disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported

Setup the GT64120 BARs in the nanoMIPS bootloader, in the same way that
they are setup in the MIPS32 bootloader. This is necessary for Linux to
be able to access peripherals, including the UART.

The rom_ptr() function allows direct access to the ROM blobs that we
load during startup. However, there are currently no checks for the
size of the accesses, so it's currently possible to crash QEMU for
example with:

MIPS jazz is the last user of the legacy esp_init() function so move creation
of the ESP device over to use qdev.
Note that the esp_reset and dma_enable qemu_irqs are currently unused and so
we do not wire these up and instead remove the variables to prevent the
compiler emitting unused variable warnings.

Currently we use memory_region_init_rom_nomigrate() to create
the "bios.1fc" memory region, and we don't manually register
it with vmstate_register_ram(). This currently means that its
contents are migrated but as a ram block whose name is the empty
string; in future it may mean they are not migrated at all. Use
memory_region_init_ram() instead.
Note that this is a a cross-version migration compatibility break
for the "malta" machine.

The ISA serial port handling in serial-isa.c imposes a limit
of 4 serial ports. This is because we only know of 4 IO port
and IRQ settings for them, and is unrelated to the generic
MAX_SERIAL_PORTS limit, though they happen to both be set at
4 currently.
Use a new MAX_ISA_SERIAL_PORTS wherever that is the correct

The global hack for creating SCSI devices has recently been removed,
but this apparently broke SCSI devices on some boards that were not
ready for this change yet. For the pica61 machine you now get:
$ mips64-softmmu/qemu-system-mips64 -M pica61 -cdrom x.iso
qemu-system-mips64: -cdrom x.iso: machine type does not support if=scsi,bus=0,unit=2
Fix it by calling scsi_bus_legacy_handle_cmdline() after creating the
corresponding SCSI controller.

pci_bus_init(), pci_bus_new_inplace(), pci_bus_new() and pci_register_bus()
are misleadingly named. They're not used for initializing *any* PCI bus,
but only for a root PCI bus.
Non-root buses - i.e. ones under a logical PCI to PCI bridge - are instead
created with a direct qbus_create_inplace() (see pci_bridge_initfn()).
This patch renames the functions to make it clear they're only used for
a root bus.

object_initialize() is intended for inplace initialization of
objects, but here it's first allocated with g_new0() and then
initialized with object_initialize(). QEMU already has API
to do this (object_new), so do object creation with suitable
for usecase API.

* pci-bridge
The direct subtypes of base-pci-bridge not touched by this patch

* xilinx-pcie-root: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-pci-bridge: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-port: all non-abstract subtypes of pcie-port are already
marked as PCIe-only devices.
3) megasas-base
Not all megasas devices are Conventional PCI devices, so the
interface names are added to the subclasses registered by
megasas_register_types(), according to information in the
megasas_devices[] array.

This timer is a required part of the MIPS32/MIPS64 System Control coprocessor
(CP0). Moving it with the other architecture related files will allow an opaque
use of CPUMIPSState* in the next commit (introduce "internal.h").

Some of the lines were manually edited to reduce the line length to below
80 charecters. Some of the lines with newlines in the middle of the
string were also manually edit to avoid checkpatch errrors.
The #include lines were manually updated to allow the code to compile.
Several of the warning messages can be improved after this patch, to

Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for
returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way
and aborts process.
Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check
for failure, though they should have checked for it.
In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal,
so instead of checking for failure and reporting
it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report
errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure.

MIPS KVM trap & emulate guest kernels have a different segment layout
compared with traditional MIPS kernels, to allow both the user and
kernel code to run from the user address segment without repeatedly
trapping to KVM.
QEMU currently supports this layout only for KVM, but its sometimes
useful to be able to run these kernels in QEMU on a PC, so enable it for
TCG too.
This also paves the way for MIPS KVM VZ support (which uses the normal
virtual memory layout) by abstracting whether user mode kernel segments
are in use.

Since commit 9768e2abf7 the initrd is loaded at the end of the low
memory to avoid clash for the kernel relocation when kaslr is used.
However this in turn conflicts with the bootmap memory that the kernel
tries to place after initrd, but in low memory. The bootmap spans the
whole usable physical address space. The machine can have at most 2GiB
of memory, 256MiB of low memory mapped at 0x00000000, and 1792MiB of
high memory mapped at 0x90000000. The biggest bootmap therefore
corresponds to the adresses 0x00000000 -> 0xffffffff, which at 1 bit
per 4kiB page corresponds to 128kiB in memory.
Therefore reserve 128kiB after the initrd.

Emulated MIPS boards bail out with a simple "could not load kernel" when
a kernel could not be load, without specifying the underlying reason.
Fix that by calling load_elf_strerror.
At the same time use error_report to report the error instead of
fprintf.

Use the new functions memory_region_init_{ram,rom,rom_device}()
instead of manually calling the _nomigrate() version and then
vmstate_register_ram_global().

This defines new QOM object - IOMMUMemoryRegion - with MemoryRegion
as a parent.
This moves IOMMU-related fields from MR to IOMMU MR. However to avoid
dymanic QOM casting in fast path (address_space_translate, etc),
this adds an @is_iommu boolean flag to MR and provides new helper to
do simple cast to IOMMU MR - memory_region_get_iommu. The flag
is set in the instance init callback. This defines
memory_region_is_iommu as memory_region_get_iommu()!=NULL.
This switches MemoryRegion to IOMMUMemoryRegion in most places except
the ones where MemoryRegion may be an alias.

Currently the malta board is loading the initrd just after the kernel.
This doesn't work for kaslr enabled kernels, as the initrd ends-up being
overwritten.
Move the initrd at the end of the low memory, that should leave a
sufficient gap for kaslr.

Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or
reset to use the enum added in the previous patch.
It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no
arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the
host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd
still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots;
changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly
categorized all callers.
Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request
causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the
information to reset requests.

cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.
When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.
Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

Introduce support for emulating the MIPS Boston development board. The
Boston board is built around an FPGA & 3 PCIe controllers, one of which
is connected to an Intel EG20T Platform Controller Hub. It is used
during the development & debug of new CPUs and the software intended to
run on them, and is essentially the successor to the older MIPS Malta
board.
This patch does not implement the EG20T, instead connecting an already
supported ICH-9 AHCI controller. Whilst this isn't accurate it's enough
for typical stock Boston software (eg. Linux kernels) to work with hard
disks given that both the ICH-9 & EG20T implement the AHCI
specification.
Boston boards typically boot kernels in the FIT image format, and this
patch will treat kernels provided to QEMU as such. When loading a kernel
directly, the board code will generate minimal firmware much as the
Malta board code does. This firmware will set up the CM, CPC & GIC
register base addresses then set argument registers & jump to the kernel
entry point. Alternatively, bootloader code may be loaded using the bios
argument in which case no firmware will be generated & execution will
proceed from the start of the boot code at the default MIPS boot
exception vector (offset 0x1fc00000 into (c)kseg1).
Currently real Boston boards are always used with FPGA bitfiles that
include a Global Interrupt Controller (GIC), so the interrupt
configuration is only defined for such cases. Therefore the board will
only allow use of CPUs which implement the CPS components, including the
GIC, and will otherwise exit with a message.

This commit creates a board which defaults to having 2GB of RAM.
Unfortunately on 32-bit hosts we can't create boards with 2GB of RAM,
and so 'make check' fails. I missed this during testing of the
merge, unfortunately. Luckily the offending commit is the last
one in the merge request, so we can just revert it for now.

We've traditionally rejected orphans here and there, but not
systematically. For instance, the sun4m machines have an onboard SCSI
HBA (bus=0), and have always rejected bus>0. Other machines with an
onboard SCSI HBA don't.
Commit a66c9dc made all orphans trigger a warning, and the previous
commit turned this into an error. The checks "here and there" are now
redundant. Drop them.
Note that the one in mips_jazz.c was wrong: it rejected bus > MAX_FD,
but MAX_FD is the number of floppy drives per bus.

Block backends defined with -drive if=ide are meant to be picked up by
machine initialization code: a suitable frontend gets created and
wired up automatically.
if=ide drives not picked up that way can still be used with -device as
if they had if=none, but that's unclean and best avoided. Unused ones
produce an "Orphaned drive without device" warning.
-drive parameter "if" is optional, and the default depends on the
machine type. If a machine type doesn't specify a default, the
default is "ide".
Many machine types default to if=ide, even though they don't actually
have an IDE controller. A future patch will change these defaults to
something more sensible. To prepare for it, this patch makes default
"ide" explicit for the machines that actually pick up if=ide drives:
* alpha: clipper
* arm/aarch64: spitz borzoi terrier tosa
* i386/x86_64: generic-pc-machine (with concrete subtypes pc-q35-*
pc-i440fx-* pc-* isapc xenfv)
* mips64el: fulong2e
* mips/mipsel/mips64el: malta mips
* ppc/ppc64: mac99 g3beige prep
* sh4/sh4eb: r2d
* sparc64: sun4u sun4v
Note that ppc64 machine powernv already sets an "ide" default
explicitly. Its IDE controller isn't implemented, yet.

The CharDriverState.init() callback was introduced in commit
ceecf1d158. It is only called from text_console_do_init(), but it is no
longer set since commit a61ae7f88 (init assignment has been removed by
accident).
It seems correct to use an event callback instead and print the console
text on CHR_EVENT_OPENED. That way we can remove the single user of
CharDriverState init().

The print routine provided as part of the in-built bootloader had a bug
in that it attempted to use a jump instruction as part of a loop, but
the target has its upper bits zeroed leading to control flow
transferring to 0xb0000814 rather than the intended 0xbfc00814. Fix this
by using a branch instruction instead, which seems more fit for purpose.
A simple way to test this is to build a Linux kernel with EVA enabled &
attempt to boot it in QEMU. It will attempt to print a message
indicating the configuration mismatch but QEMU would previously
incorrectly jump & wind up printing a continuous stream of the letter E.

If the user specifies smp > 1 and the CPU with CM GCR support, then
create Coherent Processing System (which takes care of instantiating CPUs)
rather than CPUs directly and connect i8259 and cbus to the pins exposed by
CPS. However, there is no GIC yet, thus CPS exposes CPU's IRQ pins so use
the same pin numbers as before.

Global smp_cpus is never zero (even if user provides -smp 0), thus clocks
and irqs are always initialized for each created CPU in the loop at the
beginning of mips_malta_init.
These two lines cause a leak of already allocated timer and irqs for the
first CPU - remove them.

Create Cluster Power Controller and add a link to the CPC MemoryRegion
in GCR. Guest can enable / map CPC to any physical address by writing to
the memory-mapped GCR_CPC_BASE register.
Set vp-start-reset property to 1 to allow only first VP to run from reset.
Others are brought up by the guest via CPC memory-mapped registers.
