This change includes support for all AF_NETLINK socket options up to about
kernel version 5.4 (5.4 is not formally released at the time of writing).
Socket options that were introduced in kernel versions before the oldest
currently stable kernel version are guarded by kernel version macros.
This change has been built under gcc 8.3, and clang 9.0, and it passes
`make check`. The netlink options have been tested by emulating some
non-trival software that uses NETLINK socket options, but they have
not been exaustively verified.

The CPU loop tagged all the queued signals as QEMU_SI_KILL while it was
filling the `_sigfault` part of `siginfo`: this caused QEMU to copy the
wrong fields over to the userspace program.
Make sure the fault address recorded by the MMU is is stored in the CPU
environment structure.
In case of memory faults store the exception address into `siginfo`.

In any of these `*_for_each_*` functions, the last entry in the buffer (so the
"remaining length in the buffer" `len` is equal to the length of the
entry `nlmsg_len`/`nla_len`/etc) has size that is not a multiple of the
alignment, the aligned lengths `*_ALIGN(*_len)` will be greater than `len`.
Since `len` is unsigned (`size_t`), it underflows and the loop will read
pass the buffer.
This may manifest as random EINVAL or EOPNOTSUPP error on IO or network
system calls.

Now we do all our checking at translate time we can make cpu_loop a
little bit simpler. We also introduce a simple linux-user semihosting
test case to defend the functionality. The out-of-tree softmmu based

FDFLUSH is used for flushing buffers of floppy drives. Support in
QEMU is needed because some of Debian packages use this ioctl while
running post-build tests. One such example is 'tar' package.

FIOGETOWN and FIOSETOWN ioctls have platform-specific definitions,
hence non-standard definition in QEMU too.
Other than that, they both have a single integer argument, and their

Xtensa binaries built for call0 ABI don't rotate register window on
function calls and returns. Invocation of signal handlers from the
kernel is therefore different in windowed and call0 ABIs.
There's currently no way to determine xtensa ELF binary ABI from the
binary itself. Add handler for the -xtensa-abi-call0 command line
parameter/QEMU_XTENSA_ABI_CALL0 envitonment variable to the qemu-user
and record ABI choice. Use it to initialize PS.WOE in xtensa_cpu_reset.
Check PS.WOE in setup_rt_frame to determine how a signal should be
delivered.

This is needed to support debugging PIE ELF binaries running under QEMU
user mode. Currently, `code_offset` and `data_offset` remain unset for
all ELF binaries, so GDB is unable to correctly locate the position of
the binary's text and data.
The fields `code_offset`, and `data_offset` were originally added way
back in 2006 to support debugging of bFMT executables (978efd6aac),
and support was just never added for ELF. Since non-PIE binaries are
loaded at exactly the address specified in the binary, GDB does not need
to relocate any symbols, so the buggy behavior is not normally observed.

Turn the scalar macro into a functional macro. Move the creation
of the cpu up a bit within main() so that we can pass it to the
invocation of MAX_RESERVED_VA. Delay the validation of the -R
parameter until MAX_RESERVED_VA is computed.
So far no changes to any of the MAX_RESERVED_VA macros to actually
use the cpu in any way, but ARM will need it.

This is hardware support for double-precision floating-point using
pairs of 32-bit registers. Fix latent bugs in the heretofore unused

We should avoid including the whole of softfloat headers in cpu.h and
explicitly include it only where we will be calling softfloat
functions. We can use the -types.h in cpu.h for the few bits that are
global. We also move the restore_snan_bit_mode into internal.h and
include -helpers.h there.

The alternate signal stack set up by the sigaltstack syscall is
supposed to be per-thread. We were incorrectly implementing it as
process-wide. This causes problems for guest binaries that rely on
this. Notably the Go runtime does, and so we were seeing crashes
caused by races where two guest threads might incorrectly both
execute on the same stack simultaneously.
Replace the global target_sigaltstack_used with a field
sigaltstack_used in the TaskState, and make all the references to the
old global instead get a pointer to the TaskState and use the field.

The SIOCGSTAMP symbol was previously defined in the
asm-generic/sockios.h header file. QEMU sees that header
indirectly via sys/socket.h
In linux kernel commit 0768e17073dc527ccd18ed5f96ce85f9985e9115
the asm-generic/sockios.h header no longer defines SIOCGSTAMP.
Instead it provides only SIOCGSTAMP_OLD, which only uses a
32-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures.
The linux/sockios.h header then defines SIOCGSTAMP using
either SIOCGSTAMP_OLD or SIOCGSTAMP_NEW as appropriate. If
SIOCGSTAMP_NEW is used, then the tv_sec field is 64-bit even
on 32-bit architectures
To cope with this we must now convert the old and new type from
the target to the host one.

Handle EXCP_FPE properly for MIPS in cpu loop.
Note that a vast majority of FP instructions are not affected by
the absence of the code in this patch, as they use alternative code
paths for handling floating point exceptions (see, for example,
invocations of update_fcr31()) - they rely on softfloat library for
keeping track on exceptions that needs to be raised. However, there
are few MIPS FP instructions (an example is CTC1) that use function
do_raise_exception() directly, and they need the case that is added
in this patch to propagate the FPE exception as designed.
The code is based on kernel's function force_fcr31_sig() in
arch/mips/kernel.traps.c.

Bring target_flock definitions to be more in sync with the way
flock is defined in kernel.
Basically, the rules from the kernel are:
1. Majority of architectures have a common flock definition.
2. Architectures with 32-bit MIPS ABIs have a sligtly different
flock definition; those architectures are the only arcitectures
that have HAVE_ARCH_STRUCT_FLOCK defined, and that preprocessor
constant is used in the common header as a flag for including or
not including common flock definition.
3. Sparc architectures also have a sligtly different flock
definition, but the difference is only the padding at the end of
the structure. The presence of that padding is determined by
preprocessor constants __ARCH_FLOCK6_PAD and __ARCH_FLOCK64_PAD.
QEMU linux-user already implements rules 1. and 3. in a very
similar way as they are implemented in kernel. However, rule 2.
is implemented in a dissimilar way (for example, the constant
TARGET_HAVE_ARCH_STRUCT_FLOCK is missing), and this patch brings
QEMU implementation much closer to the kernel implementation.
TARGET_HAVE_ARCH_STRUCT_FLOCK64 constant is also introduced to
mimic HAVE_ARCH_STRUCT_FLOCK64 from kernel, but it is not defined
anywhere, however, this is the case with HAVE_ARCH_STRUCT_FLOCK64
in kernel as well.

Among MIPS ABIs, only MIPS O32 and N32 have special (different
than other architectures) definition of structure flock in kernel.
Bring target_flock definition in QEMU for MIPS O64 ABI to the
correct state, which is currently different than the most common
definition, and it should actually be the same.

All of the flags need to be conditional as old systems don't have
statx support. Otherwise it works the same as other stat family
syscalls. This requires the pending patch to add statx support.
Tested on Ubuntu 16.04 (no host statx) and Ubuntu 19.04 (with host
statx) using a riscv32-linux toolchain.

Implement support for translation of system call statx().
The implementation is based on "best effort" approach: if host
is capable of executing statx(), host statx() is used. If not,
the implementation includes invoking a more mature system call
fstatat() on the host side to achieve as close as possible
functionality.
Support for statx() in kernel and glibc was, however, introduced
at different points of time (the difference is more than a year):
- kernel: Linux 4.11 (30 April 2017)
- glibc: glibc 2.28 (1 Aug 2018)
In this patch, the availability of statx() support is established
via __NR_statx (if it is defined, statx() is considered available).
This coincedes with statx() introduction in kernel.
However, the structure statx definition may not be available in
any header for hosts with glibc older than 2.28 (and it is, by
design, to be defined in one of glibc headers), even though the
full statx() functionality may be supported in kernel. Hence, a
structure "target_statx" is defined in this patch, to remove that
dependency on glibc headers, and to use statx() functionality as
soon as the host kernel is capable of supporting it. Such statx
structure definition is used for both target and host structures
statx (of course, this doesn't mean the endian arrangement is
the same on target and host - the endian conversion is done in
all necessary cases).

This interface has been introduced in 2005 with the
coldfire implementation (e6e5906b6e ColdFire target.)
and looks like to do what the linux-user interface already
does with the TRAP exception rather than the ILLEGAL
exception.
This interface has not been maintained since that.
The semi-hosting interface is not removed so coldfire kernel
with semi-hosting is always supported.

32-bit RISC-V uses _llseek instead of lseek as syscall number 62.
Update syscall list from open-embedded build, primarily because
32-bit RISC-V requires statx support.
Tested with cross gcc testsuite runs for rv32 and rv64, with the
pending statx patch also applied.

of VSX instructions in libcrypto that are accelerated
by the TCG vector instructions now.

Add support for the option IPV6_<ADD|DROP>_MEMBERSHIP of the syscall
setsockopt(). This option controls membership in multicast groups.
Argument is a pointer to a struct ipv6_mreq.
The glibc <netinet/in.h> header defines the ipv6_mreq structure,
which includes the following members:
struct in6_addr ipv6mr_multiaddr;
unsigned int ipv6mr_interface;
Whereas the kernel in its <linux/in6.h> header defines following
members of the same structure:
struct in6_addr ipv6mr_multiaddr;
int ipv6mr_ifindex;
POSIX defines ipv6mr_interface [1].
__UAPI_DEF_IVP6_MREQ appears in kernel headers with v3.12:
cfd280c91253 net: sync some IP headers with glibc
Without __UAPI_DEF_IVP6_MREQ, kernel defines ipv6mr_ifindex, and
this is explained in cfd280c91253:
"If you include the kernel headers first you get those,
and if you include the glibc headers first you get those,
and the following patch arranges a coordination and
synchronization between the two."
So before 3.12, a program can't include both <netinet/in.h> and
<linux/in6.h>.
In linux-user/syscall.c, we only include <netinet/in.h> (glibc) and
not <linux/in6.h> (kernel headers), so ipv6mr_interface is the one
to use.

Add support for options SOL_ALG of the syscall setsockopt(). This
option is used in relation to Linux kernel Crypto API, and allows
a user to set additional information for the cipher operation via
syscall setsockopt(). The field "optname" must be one of the
following:
- ALG_SET_KEY – seting the key
- ALG_SET_AEAD_AUTHSIZE – set the authentication tag size
SOL_ALG is relatively newer setsockopt() option. Therefore, the
code that handles SOL_ALG is enclosed in "ifdef" so that the build
does not fail for older kernels that do not contain support for
SOL_ALG. "ifdef" also contains check if ALG_SET_KEY and
ALG_SET_AEAD_AUTHSIZE are defined.

When we have updated kernel headers to 5.2-rc1 we have introduced
new syscall numbers that can be not supported by older kernels
and fail with ENOSYS while the guest emulation succeeded before
because the syscalls were emulated with ipc().
This patch fixes the problem by using ipc() if the new syscall
returns ENOSYS.

Now we have a common semihosting console interface use that for our
string output. However ARM is currently unique in also supporting
semihosting for linux-user so we need to replicate the API in
linux-user. If other architectures gain this support we can move the
file later.

In current code, __NR_msgrcv and__NR_semtimedop are supposed to be
defined if __NR_msgsnd is defined.
But linux headers 5.2-rc1 for MIPS define __NR_msgsnd without defining
__NR_semtimedop and it breaks the QEMU build.
__NR_semtimedop is defined in asm-mips/unistd_n64.h and asm-mips/unistd_n32.h
but not in asm-mips/unistd_o32.h.
Commit d9cb433615 ("linux headers: update against Linux 5.2-rc1") has
updated asm-mips/unistd_o32.h and added __NR_msgsnd but not __NR_semtimedop.
It introduces __NR_semtimedop_time64 instead.
This patch fixes the problem by checking for each __NR_XXX symbol
before defining the corresponding syscall.

Since Linux 2.6 the stat syscalls have mostly supported nanosecond
components for each of the file-related timestamps.
QEMU user mode emulation currently does not pass through the nanosecond
portion of the timestamp, even when the host system fills in the value.
This results in a mismatch when run on subsecond resolution filesystems
such as ext4 or XFS.
An example of this leading to inconsistency is cross-debootstraping a
full desktop root filesystem of Debian Buster. Recent versions of
fontconfig store the full timestamp (instead of just the second portion)
of the directory in its per-directory cache file, and checks this against
the directory to see if the cache is up-to-date. With QEMU user mode
emulation, the timestamp stored is incorrect, and upon booting the rootfs
natively, fontconfig discovers the mismatch, and proceeds to rebuild the
cache on the comparatively slow machine (low-power ARM vs x86). This
stalls the first attempt to open whatever application that incorporates
fontconfig.
This patch renames the "unused" padding trailing each timestamp element
to its nanosecond counterpart name if such an element exists in the
kernel sources for the given platform. Not all do. Then have the syscall
wrapper fill in the nanosecond portion if the host supports it, as
specified by the _POSIX_C_SOURCE and _XOPEN_SOURCE feature macros.
Recent versions of glibc only use stat64 and newfstatat syscalls on
32-bit and 64-bit platforms respectively. The changes in this patch
were tested by directly calling the stat, stat64 and newfstatat syscalls
directly, in addition to the glibc wrapper, on arm and aarch64 little
endian targets.

For those hosts with SHMLBA > getpagesize, we don't automatically
select a guest address that is compatible with the host. We can
achieve this by boosting the alignment of guest_base and by adding
an extra alignment argument to mmap_find_vma.

Sanitize interp_info structure in load_elf_binary() and, for MIPS only,
init its field fp_abi to MIPS_ABI_FP_UNKNOWN. This fixes appearances of
"Unexpected FPU mode" message in some MIPS use cases. Currently, this
bug is a complete stopper for some MIPS binaries.
In load_elf_binary(), struct image_info interp_info is used without
being properly initialized. One result is that when the ELF's program
header doesn't contain an entry for the ABI flags, then the value of
the struct image_info's fp_abi field is set to whatever happened to
be in stack memory at the time.
Backporting to 4.0 and, if possible, to 3.1 is recommended.

Add support for getting and setting extended private flags of a
network device via SIOCSIFPFLAGS and SIOCGIFPFLAGS ioctls.
The ioctl numeric values are platform-independent and determined by
the file include/uapi/linux/sockios.h in Linux kernel source code:

These ioctls get (or set) the field ifr_flags of type short in the
structure ifreq. Such functionality is achieved in QEMU by using

or SIGURG signals when I/O becomes possible or urgent data is available,

Debian console-setup uses /proc/hardware to guess the keyboard layout.
If the file /proc/hardware cannot be opened, the installation fails.
This patch adds a pseudo /proc/hardware file to report the model of
the machine. Instead of reporting a known and fake model, it
reports "qemu-m68k", which is true, and avoids to set the configuration
for an Amiga/Apple/Atari and let the user to chose the good one.

SPARC libc6 debian package wants to check the cpu level to be
installed or not:
WARNING: This machine has a SPARC V8 or earlier class processor.
Debian lenny and later does not support such old hardware
any longer.
To avoid this, it only needs to know if the machine type is sun4u or sun4v,
for that it reads the information from /proc/cpuinfo.

When the -seed option is given, call qemu_guest_random_seed_main,
putting the subsystem into deterministic mode. Pass derived seeds
to each cpu created during clone; which is a no-op unless the
subsystem is in deterministic mode.

they cannot be included together. scripts/clean-header-guards.pl
can't tell, so it warns.
Since we can avoid guard symbol reuse easily, do so: use guard symbol

Some PT_LOAD segments may be completely zeroed out and their p_filesize
is zero, in that case the loader should just allocate a page that's at
least p_memsz bytes large (plus eventual alignment padding).
Calling zero_bss does this job for us, all we have to do is make sure we
don't try to mmap a zero-length page.

CPUClass method dump_statistics() takes an fprintf()-like callback and
a FILE * to pass to it. Most callers pass fprintf() and stderr.
log_cpu_state() passes fprintf() and qemu_log_file.
hmp_info_registers() passes monitor_fprintf() and the current monitor
cast to FILE *. monitor_fprintf() casts it right back, and is
otherwise identical to monitor_printf().
The callback gets passed around a lot, which is tiresome. The
type-punning around monitor_fprintf() is ugly.
Drop the callback, and call qemu_fprintf() instead. Also gets rid of
the type-punning, since qemu_fprintf() takes NULL instead of the
current monitor cast to FILE *.

The various TARGET_cpu_list() take an fprintf()-like callback and a
FILE * to pass to it. Their callers (vl.c's main() via list_cpus(),
bsd-user/main.c's main(), linux-user/main.c's main()) all pass
fprintf() and stdout. Thus, the flexibility provided by the (rather
tiresome) indirection isn't actually used.
Drop the callback, and call qemu_printf() instead.
Calling printf() would also work, but would make the code unsuitable
for monitor context without making it simpler.

This commit adds a error_init() helper which calls
g_log_set_default_handler() so that glib logs (g_log, g_warning, ...)
are handled similarly to other QEMU logs. This means they will get a
timestamp if timestamps are enabled, and they will go through the
HMP monitor if one is configured.
This commit also adds a call to error_init() to the binaries
installed by QEMU. Since error_init() also calls error_set_progname(),
this means that *-linux-user, *-bsd-user and qemu-pr-helper messages
output with error_report, info_report, ... will slightly change: they
will be prefixed by the binary name.
glib debug messages are enabled through G_MESSAGES_DEBUG similarly to
the glib default log handler.
At the moment, this change will mostly impact SPICE logging if your
spice version is >= 0.14.1. With older spice versions, this is not going
to work as expected, but will not have any ill effect, so this call is
not conditional on the SPICE version.

Some trace points are attributed to the wrong source file. Happens
when we neglect to update trace-events for code motion, or add events
in the wrong place, or misspell the file name.
Clean up with help of cleanup-trace-events.pl. Same funnies as in the
previous commit, of course. Manually shorten its change to
linux-user/trace-events to */signal.c.

This change checks elf_flags for EF_RISCV_RVE and if
present uses the RVE linux syscall ABI which uses t0
for the syscall number instead of a7.
Warn and exit if a non-RVE ABI binary is run on a

A zero-length read still needs to do the usual checks, thus it may return

Nios II user-mode emulation was missing handling for EXCP_DEBUG,
making the gdb stub essentially useless. This patch adds the missing
piece. The new code was copied from the existing EXCP_TRAP handling
and is also similar to what other targets (e.g., arm) do with EXCP_DEBUG.

System calls that return a socket address do so by writing the (possibly
truncated) address into the provided buffer space, but setting the
addrlen parameter to the actual size of the address. To determine how
much to copy back to the target memory the emulation needs to remember
the incoming value of the addrlen parameter, so that it doesn't write
past the buffer limits.

The license information in these files is rather confusing. The text
declares LGPL first, but then says that contributions after 2012 are
licensed under the GPL instead. How should the average user who just
downloaded the release tarball know which part is now GPL and which
is LGPL?
Looking at the text of the LGPL (see COPYING.LIB in the top directory),
the license clearly states how this should be done instead:
"3. You may opt to apply the terms of the ordinary GNU General Public
License instead of this License to a given copy of the Library. To do
this, you must alter all the notices that refer to this License, so
that they refer to the ordinary GNU General Public License, version 2,
instead of to this License."
Thus let's clean up the confusing statements and use the proper GPL
text only.

Coverity warns (CID 1390634) that open_net_route() is not
checking the return value from sscanf(), which means that
it might then use values that aren't initialized.
Errors here should in general not happen since we're passing
an assumed-good /proc/net/route from the host kernel, but
if we do fail to parse a line then just skip it in the output
we pass to the guest.

Clang version 3.4.2 does not know the -Wpragmas option yet and bails
out with an error when we try to disable it in linux-user/qemu.h.
Fortunately, clang has a __has_warning() macro which allows us to add
an explicit check for the option that we want to ignore. With that we
can check for the availability of "-Waddress-of-packed-member" properly
and do not need the "-Wpragmas" at all here.

them to spaces so that we don't confuse people.
disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported

Most list head structs need not be given a name. In most cases the
name is given just in case one is going to use QTAILQ_LAST, QTAILQ_PREV
or reverse iteration, but this does not apply to lists of other kinds,
and even for QTAILQ in practice this is only rarely needed. In addition,
we will soon reimplement those macros completely so that they do not
need a name for the head struct. So clean up everything, not giving a
name except in the rare case where it is necessary.

Linux returns success if pwrite64() or pread64() are called with a
zero length NULL buffer, but QEMU was returning -TARGET_EFAULT.
This is the same bug that we fixed in commit 58cfa6c2e6
for the write syscall, and long before that in 38d840e679
for the read syscall.

registers consist of the existing 64-bit FP registers extended to 128-bit

In order to allow for future conversion of VSX instructions to use TCG vector
operations, recreate the same layout using an aligned version of the existing
vsr register array.
Since the old fpr and avr register arrays are removed, the existing callers
must also be updated to use the correct offset in the vsr register array. This
also includes switching the relevant VMState fields over to using subarrays
to make sure that migration is preserved.

Coverity complains (CID 1390847) about some dead code in
do_sigreturn(). This is an if (err) clause that can never be
true, copied from the kernel (where __get_user returns an error).
The one code path that could report an error is in the
currently commented-out pseudocode for handling FPU register
restoring, so move the if into that comment (and fix the
broken indent in the comment in the process).
(The new position for the error check is also the semantically
correct one -- we should not restore the signal mask from
the signal frame if we get an error here, so the check must
be done before set_sigmask(), not after.)

The nios2 main loop code's code does some odd
things with gdb_handlesig() that no other target
CPU does: it has some signals that are delivered
to gdb and only to gdb. Stop doing this, and instead
behave like all the other targets:
* a trap instruction becomes a SIGTRAP
* an unhandled exception type returned from cpu_exec()
causes us to abort(), not to try to hand gdb a SIGILL
This fixes in passing Coverity issue CID 1390853,
which was a complaint that the old code failed to
check the return value from gdb_handlesig().

The CPU main-loop routines for linux-user generally
call gdb_handlesig() when they're about to queue a
SIGTRAP signal. This is wrong, because queue_signal()
will cause us to pend a signal, and process_pending_signals()
will then call gdb_handlesig() itself. So the effect is that
we notify gdb of the SIGTRAP, and then if gdb says "OK,
continue with signal X" we will incorrectly notify
gdb of the signal X as well. We don't do this double-notify
for anything else, only SIGTRAP.
Remove this unnecessary and incorrect code from all
the targets except for nios2 (whose main loop is
doing something different and broken, and will be handled
in a separate patch).
This bug only manifests if the user responds to the reported
SIGTRAP using "signal SIGFOO" rather than "continue"; since
the latter is the overwhelmingly common thing to do after a
breakpoint most people won't have hit this.

Remove some dead code spotted by Coverity (CID 1009855,
1390854, 1390847). The underlying cause in all these cases
is the same: QEMU's put_user operations can't result in
errors, but the kernel's equivalent does. So when code
was copied from the kernel signal-frame-setup/teardown
code, checks on error flags that were needed in the kernel
became dead code for us.

Coldfire defines an "Unsupported instruction" exception if execution
of a valid instruction is attempted but the required hardware is not
present in the processor.
We use it with instructions that are in fact undefined or illegal,
and the exception expected in this case by the kernel is the
illegal exception, so this patch fixes that.

Stack pointer alignment code incorrectly adds stack_size to sp instead
of subtracting it. It also does not take flat_argvp_envp_on_stack() into
account when calculating stack_size. This results in initial stack
pointer misalignment with certain set of command line arguments and
environment variables and correct alignment for the same binary with a
different set of arguments. This misalignment causes failures in the
following tests in the testsuite of gcc built for xtensa uclinux:

This kind of ELF for the R5900 relies on an IEEE 754-1985 compliant FPU.
The R5900 FPU hardware is noncompliant and it is therefore emulated in
software by the Linux kernel. QEMU emulates a compliant FPU accordingly.

Both arm and thumb2 division are controlled by the same ISAR field,
which takes care of the arm implies thumb case. Having M imply
thumb2 division was wrong for cortex-m0, which is v6m and does not
have thumb2 at all, much less thumb2 division.

Userspace submits a USB Request Buffer to the kernel, optionally
discards it, and finally reaps the URB. Thunk buffers from target
to host and back.
Tested by running an i386 scanner driver on ARMv7 and by running
the PowerPC lsusb utility on x86_64. The discardurb ioctl is
not exercised in these tests.

Add MIPS-specific prctl() options TARGET_PR_SET_FP_MODE and
TARGET_PR_SET_FP_MODE. These values are essentially copied from
linux kernel header include/uapi/linux/prctl.h.
This is done in a way consistent with a similar case of
aarch64-specific prctl() options TARGET_PR_SVE_SET_VL and
TARGET_PR_SVE_GET_VL.

Remove a comment suggesting that we need to call tb_flush()
after writing the SPARC signal frame trampoline insns.
This isn't necessary in QEMU, because (even if the guest
architecture requires explicit icache maintenance) we
ensure that memory writes result in invalidation of
translated code from that memory.

Our __get_user_e() and __put_user_e() macros cause newer versions
of clang to generate false-positive -Waddress-of-packed-member
warnings if they are passed the address of a member of a packed
struct (see https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39113).
Suppress these using the _Pragma() operator. Unfortunately
_Pragma() support in gcc is broken in some gcc versions and
in some usage contexts, so we limit the pragma usage here to clang.
To put in the pragmas we need to convert the macros from
expressions to statements, but all the callsites effectively
treat them as statements already so this is OK.

setrlimit guest calls that affect memory resources
(RLIMIT_{AS,DATA,STACK}) may interfere with QEMU internal memory
management. They may result in QEMU lockup because mprotect call in
page_unprotect would fail with ENOMEM error code, causing infinite loop
of SIGSEGV. E.g. it happens when running libstdc++ testsuite for xtensa
target on x86_64 host.
Don't call host setrlimit for memory-related resources.

A. Experiment suggests not: both linux and linux-user yield -1 for
NULL 0-length reads/writes.

If the hostpage size is greater than the TARGET_PAGESIZE, the
target-pages of size TARGET_PAGESIZE are marked valid only till the
length requested during the elfload. The glibc attempts to consume unused
space in the last page of data segment(__libc_memalign() in
elf/dl-minimal.c). If PT_LOAD p_align is greater than or
equal to hostpage size, the GLRO(dl_pagesize) is actually the host pagesize
as set in the auxillary vectors. So, there is no explicit mmap request for
the remaining target-pages on the last hostpage. The glibc assumes that
particular space as available and subsequent attempts to use
those addresses lead to crash as the target_mmap has not marked them valid
for those target-pages.
The issue is seen when trying to chroot to 16.04-x86_64 ubuntu on a PPC64
host where the fork fails to access the thread_id as it is allocated on a
page not marked valid. The recent glibc doesn't have checks for thread-id in
fork, but the issue can manifest somewhere else, none the less.
The fix here is to map all the target-pages of the hostpage during the
elfload if the p_align is greater than or equal to hostpage size, for
data segment to allow the glibc for proper consumption.

This adds the HWCAP2 bit to detect if a linux user process is
running on an ISA 3.0 compliant cpu like POWER9. This can be
verified using a simple test program that prints the value in
the auxiliary vector for AT_HWCAP2 as shown below.

Iterating over the list without using atomics is undefined behaviour,
since the list can be modified concurrently by other threads (e.g.
every time a new thread is created in user-mode).
Fix it by implementing the CPU list as an RCU QTAILQ. This requires
a little bit of extra work to traverse list in reverse order (see
previous patch), but other than that the conversion is trivial.

sparc32plus has 64bit long type but only 32bit virtual address space.
For instance, "apt-get upgrade" failed because of a mmap()/msync()
sequence.
mmap() returned 0xff252000 but msync() used g2h(0xffffffffff252000)
to find the host address. The "(target_ulong)" in g2h() doesn't fix the
address because it is 64bit long.
This patch introduces an "abi_ptr" that is set to uint32_t
if the virtual address space is addressed using 32bit in the linux-user
case. It stays set to target_ulong with softmmu case.

Add ability to target platforms to individually include user-mode
support for system calls from "stat" group of system calls.
This change is related to new nanoMIPS platform in the sense that
it supports a different set of "stat" system calls than any other
target. nanoMIPS does not support structures stat and stat64 at
all. Also, support for certain number of other system calls is
dropped in nanoMIPS (those are most of the time obsoleted system
calls).
Without this patch, build for nanoMIPS would fail.

This allows the default (and maximum) vector length to be set
from the command-line. Which is extraordinarily helpful in
debugging problems depending on vector length without having to
bake knowledge of PR_SET_SVE_VL into every guest binary.

r11 is a volatile register on PPC as per calling conventions.
The safe_syscall code uses it to check if the signal_pending
is set during the safe_syscall. When a syscall is interrupted
on return from signal handling, the r11 might be corrupted
before we retry the syscall leading to a crash. The registers
r0-r13 are not to be used here as they have
volatile/designated/reserved usages.
Change the code to use r14 which is non-volatile.
Use SP+16 which is a slot for LR, for save/restore of previous value
of r14. SP+16 can be used, as LR is preserved across the syscall.
Steps to reproduce:
On PPC host, issue `qemu-x86_64 /usr/bin/cc -E -`
Attempt Ctrl-C, the issue is reproduced.

This allows the tests generated by debian-powerpc-user-cross
to function properly, especially tests/test-coroutine.
Technically this syscall is available to both ppc32 and ppc64,
but only ppc32 glibc actually uses it. Thus the ppc64 path is
untested.

When we try to use some targets on ppc64, it can happen the target
doesn't support the host page size to align ELF load sections and
fails with:
ELF load command alignment not page-aligned
Since commit a70daba377 ("linux-user: Tell guest about big host
page sizes") the host page size is used to align ELF sections, but
this doesn't work if the alignment required by the load section is
smaller than the host one. For these cases, we continue to use the
TARGET_PAGE_SIZE instead of the host one.
I have tested this change on ppc64, and it fixes qemu linux-user for:
s390x, m68k, i386, arm, aarch64, hppa
and I have tested it doesn't break the following targets:
x86_64, mips64el, sh4
mips and mipsel abort, but I think for another reason.

If this is not done, qemu would drop any control message after the first
one.
This is because glibc's `CMSG_NXTHDR` macro accesses the uninitialized
cmsghdr's length field in order to find out if the message fits into the
`msg_control` buffer, wrongly assuming that it doesn't because the
length field contains garbage. Accessing the length field is fine for
completed messages we receive from the kernel, but is - as far as I know
- not needed since the kernel won't return such an invalid cmsghdr in

The value given by mmap_find_vma_reserved() is used with mmap(),
so it is needed to be aligned with the host page size.
Since commit 18e80c55bb, reserved_va is only aligned to TARGET_PAGE_SIZE,
and it works well if this size is greater or equal to the host page size.
But ppc64 hosts have 64kB page size and when we start a 4kiB page size
guest (like i386), it fails when it tries to mmap the stack:
mmap stack: Invalid argument

Qemu includes the glibc headers for the host defines and target headers are
part of the qemu source themselves. The glibc has the F_GETLK64, F_SETLK64
and F_SETLKW64 defined to 12, 13 and 14 for all archs in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/fcntl-linux.h. The linux kernel generic
definition for F_*LK is 5, 6 & 7 and F_*LK64* is 12,13, and 14 as seen in
include/uapi/asm-generic/fcntl.h. On 64bit machine, by default the kernel
assumes all F_*LK to 64bit calls and doesnt support use of F_*LK64* as
can be seen in include/linux/fcntl.h in linux source.
On x86_64 host, the values for F_*LK64* are set to 5, 6 and 7
explicitly in /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/bits/fcntl.h by the glibc.
Whereas, a PPC64 host doesn't have such a definition in
/usr/include/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/bits/fcntl.h by the glibc. So,
the sources on PPC64 host sees the default value of F_*LK64*
as 12, 13 & 14(fcntl-linux.h).
Since the 64bit kernel doesnt support 12, 13 & 14; the glibc fcntl syscall
implementation(__libc_fcntl*(), __fcntl64_nocancel) does the F_*LK64* value
convertion back to F_*LK* values on PPC64 as seen in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc/powerpc64/sysdep.h with FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD()
macro. Whereas on x86_64 host the values for F_*LK64* are set to 5, 6 and 7
and no adjustments are needed.
Since qemu doesnt use the glibc fcntl, but makes the safe_syscall* on its
own, the PPC64 qemu is calling the syscall with 12, 13, and 14(without
adjustment) and they all fail. The fcntl calls to F_GETLK/F_SETLK|W all
fail by all pplications run on PPC64 host user emulation.
The fix here could be to see why on PPC64 the glibc is still keeping
F_*LK64* different from F_*LK and why adjusting them to 5, 6 and 7 before
the syscall for PPC only. See if we can make the
/usr/include/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/bits/fcntl.h to have the values
5, 6 & 7 just like x86_64 and remove the adjustment code in glibc. That
way, qemu sources see the kernel supported values in glibc headers.
OR
On PPC64 host, qemu sources see both F_*LK & F_*LK64* as same and set to
12, 13 and 14 because __USE_FILE_OFFSET64 is defined in qemu
sources(also refer sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/fcntl-linux.h).
Do the value adjustment just like it is done by glibc source by using
F_GETLK value of 5. That way, we make the syscalls with the actual
supported values in Qemu. The patch is taking this approach.

As we don't always take the normal exit path when running a guest we
can skip the normal exit destructors where gcov normally dumps it's
info. The GCC manual suggests long running programs use __gcov_dump()
to flush out the coverage state periodically so we use that here.

Use mmap_lock in user-mode to protect TCG state and the page descriptors.
In !user-mode, each vCPU has its own TCG state, so no locks needed.
Per-page locks are used to protect the page descriptors.
Per-TB locks are used in both modes to protect TB jumps.
Some notes:
- tb_lock is removed from notdirty_mem_write by passing a
locked page_collection to tb_invalidate_phys_page_fast.
- tcg_tb_lookup/remove/insert/etc have their own internal lock(s),
so there is no need to further serialize access to them.
- do_tb_flush is run in a safe async context, meaning no other
vCPU threads are running. Therefore acquiring mmap_lock there
is just to please tools such as thread sanitizer.
- Not visible in the diff, but tb_invalidate_phys_page already
has an assert_memory_lock.
- cpu_io_recompile is !user-only, so no mmap_lock there.
- Added mmap_unlock()'s before all siglongjmp's that could
be called in user-mode while mmap_lock is held.
+ Added an assert for !have_mmap_lock() after returning from
the longjmp in cpu_exec, just like we do in cpu_exec_step_atomic.

Coverity points out that there's a missing break in the switch in
host_to_target_cmsg() where we update tgt_len for
cmsg_level/cmsg_type combinations which require a different length
for host and target (CID 1385425). To avoid duplicating the default
case (target length same as host) in both switches, set that before
the switch so that only the cases which want to override it need any
code.
This fixes a bug where we would have used the wrong length
for SOL_SOCKET/SO_TIMESTAMP messages where the target and
host have differently sized 'struct timeval' (ie one is 32
bit and the other is 64 bit).

cpu_init() was replaced by cpu_create() since 2.12 but comments
weren't updated. So update stale comments to point that page
sizes arei actually initialized by tcg_exec_init(). Also move
another qemu_host_page_size related comment before tcg_exec_init()
where it belongs.

As l_type values (F_RDLCK, F_WRLCK, F_UNLCK, F_EXLCK, F_SHLCK)
are not bitmasks, we can't use target_to_host_bitmask() and
host_to_target_bitmask() to convert them.
Introduce target_to_host_flock() and host_to_target_flock()
to convert values between host and target.

include/uapi/asm-generic/fcntl.h insert a padding macro at
the end of the structures flock and flock64.
This macro is defined to "short __unused;" on sparc,
and "long pad[4]" on mips.

The insns in the ARMv8.1-Atomics are added to the existing
load/store exclusive and load/store reg opcode spaces.
Rearrange the top-level decoders for these to accomodate.
The Atomics insns themselves still generate Unallocated.

Since commit 8efb2ed5ec ("linux-user: Correct signedness of
target_flock l_start and l_len fields"), flock64 structure uses
abi_llong for l_start and l_len in place of "unsigned long long"
this should force them to be aligned accordingly to the target
rules. So we can remove the padding field and the QEMU_PACKED
attribute.
I have compared the result of the following program before and
after the change:

The sizeof() changes because we remove the QEMU_PACKED.
The new size is 32 (except for i386 and m68k) and this is
the real size of "struct flock64" on the target architecture.
The following architectures differ:
aarch64_be, aarch64, alpha, armeb, arm, cris, hppa, nios2, or1k,
riscv32, riscv64, s390x.
For a subset of these architectures, I have checked with the following
program the new structure is the correct one:

For ARM, the target_flock64 becomes the EABI definition, so we need to
define the OABI one in place of the EABI one and use it when it is
needed.
I have also fixed the alignment value for sh4 (to align llong on 4 bytes)

The FDPIC restorer needs to deal with a function descriptor, hence we
have to extend 'retcode' such that it can hold the instructions needed
to perform this.
The restorer sequence uses the same thumbness as the exception
handler (mainly to support Thumb-only architectures).

We want to avoid code disabled by default, because it ends up less
tested. This patch removes all instances of #ifdef CONFIG_USE_FDPIC,
most of which can be safely kept. For the ones that should be
conditionally executed, we define elf_is_fdpic(). Without this patch,
defining CONFIG_USE_FDPIC would prevent QEMU from building precisely
because elf_is_fdpic is not defined.
