Since commit 5d83b9a130 "qapi: replace if condition list with dict
{'all': [...]}", we represent if conditionals as trees consisting of
OrderedDict, list and str. This results in less than legible test
output. For instance:
if OrderedDict([('not', OrderedDict([('any', [OrderedDict([('not', 'TEST_IF_EVT')]), OrderedDict([('not', 'TEST_IF_STRUCT')])])]))])
We intend to replace OrderedDict by dict when we get Python 3.7, which
will result in more legible output:
if {'not': {'any': [{'not': 'TEST_IF_EVT'}, {'not': 'TEST_IF_STRUCT'}]}}
Can't wait: put in a hack to get that now, with a comment to revert it
when we replace OrderedDict.

messed up parenthesises in the former, and got them right in the

The C code generated for 'if' conditionals is incorrectly
parenthesized. For instance,
'if': { 'not': { 'any': [ { 'not': 'TEST_IF_EVT' },
{ 'not': 'TEST_IF_STRUCT' } ] } } }
generates
#if !(!defined(TEST_IF_EVT)) || (!defined(TEST_IF_STRUCT))
This is wrong. Correct would be:
#if !(!defined(TEST_IF_EVT) || !defined(TEST_IF_STRUCT))
Cover the issue in qapi-schema-test.json. This generates bad #if in

Add a similar condition to doc-good.json. The generated documentation
is fine.

A definition's conditional should imply the conditionals of types it
uses. If it doesn't, some configurations won't compile.
Example (from tests/qapi-schema/qapi-schema-test.json):
{ 'union': 'TestIfUnion', 'data':
{ 'foo': 'TestStruct',
'bar': { 'type': 'str', 'if': 'TEST_IF_UNION_BAR'} },
'if': { 'all': ['TEST_IF_UNION', 'TEST_IF_STRUCT'] } }
{ 'command': 'test-if-union-cmd',
'data': { 'union-cmd-arg': 'TestIfUnion' },
'if': 'TEST_IF_UNION' }
generates
#if (defined(TEST_IF_UNION)) && (defined(TEST_IF_STRUCT))
typedef struct TestIfUnion TestIfUnion;
#endif /* (defined(TEST_IF_UNION)) && (defined(TEST_IF_STRUCT)) */
and
#if defined(TEST_IF_UNION)
void qmp_test_if_union_cmd(TestIfUnion *union_cmd_arg, Error **errp);
void qmp_marshal_test_if_union_cmd(QDict *args, QObject **ret, Error **errp);
#endif /* defined(TEST_IF_UNION) */
which doesn't compile when !defined(TEST_IF_STRUCT).
Messed up in f8c4fdd6ae "tests/qapi: Cover commands with 'if' and
union / alternate 'data'", v4.0.0. Harmless, as we don't actually use
this configuration. Correct it anyway, along with another instance.
This loses coverage for 'not'. The next commit will bring it back.

This commit makes the plugin adhere to the new plugins arg-passing
scheme by expecting full-form boolean args instead of short-form
booleans. This necessitates that we introduce a new argument, here
"track", to accept "r", "w", or "rw".
Also, it makes arguments not positional and we only care about the last
value specified for a certain argument.
callback/inline args are now supplied separately as bool arguments so
that both can be enabled individually.

Made argument "inline" not positional, this has two benefits. First is
that we adhere to how QEMU passes args generally, by taking the last

We are going to publish copy-before-write filter. So, user should be
able to create it with blockdev-add first, specifying both filtered and
target children. And then do blockdev-reopen, to actually insert the
filter where needed.
Currently, filter unshares write permission unconditionally on source
node. It's good, but it will not allow to do blockdev-add. So, let's
relax restrictions when filter doesn't have any parent.
Test output is modified, as now permission conflict happens only when
job creates a blk parent for filter node.

The timeout mechanism won't work if SIGALRM is blocked. This changes
unmasks SIGALRM when the timer is installed. This doesn't completely
solve the problem, as the fuzzer could trigger some device activity that
re-masks SIGALRM. However, there are currently no inputs on OSS-Fuzz
that re-mask SIGALRM and timeout. If that turns out to be a real issue,
we could try to hook sigmask-type calls, or use a separate timer thread.

Using a custom timeout is useful to continue fuzzing complex devices,
even after we run into some slow code-path. However, simply adding a
fixed timeout to each input effectively caps the maximum input
length/number of operations at some artificial value. There are two
major problems with this:
1. Some code might only be reachable through long IO sequences.
2. Longer inputs can actually be _better_ for performance. While the
raw number of fuzzer executions decreases with larger inputs, the
number of MMIO/PIO/DMA operation/second actually increases, since
were are speding proportionately less time fork()ing.
With this change, we keep the custom-timeout, but we renew it, prior to
each MMIO/PIO/DMA operation. Thus, we time-out only when a specific
operation takes a long time.

The code mistakenly relied on address_space_translate to store the
length remaining until the next memory-region. We care about this
because when there is RAM or sparse-memory neighboring on an MMIO
region, we should only write up to the border, to prevent inadvertently
invoking MMIO handlers within the DMA callback.
However address_space_translate_internal only stores the length until
the end of the MemoryRegion if memory_region_is_ram(mr). Otherwise
the *len is left unmodified. This caused some false-positive issues,
where the fuzzer found a way to perform a nested MMIO write through a
DMA callback on an [address, length] that started within sparse memory
and spanned some device MMIO regions.
To fix this, write to sparse memory in small chunks of
memory_access_size (similar to the underlying address_space_write code),
which will prevent accidentally hitting MMIO handlers through large
writes.

We are going to convert backup_top to full featured public filter,
which can be used in separate of backup job. Start from renaming from
"how it used" to "what it does".
While updating comments in 283 iotest, drop and rephrase also things
about ".active", as this field is now dropped, and filter doesn't have
"inactive" mode.
Note that this change may be considered as incompatible interface
change, as backup-top filter format name was visible through
query-block and query-named-block-nodes.
Still, consider the following reasoning:
1. backup-top was never documented, so if someone depends on format
name (for driver that can't be used other than it is automatically
inserted on backup job start), it's a kind of "undocumented feature
use". So I think we are free to change it.
2. There is a hope, that there is no such users: it's a lot more native
to give a good node-name to backup-top filter if need to operate
with it somehow, and don't touch format name.
3. Another "incompatible" change in further commit would be moving
copy-before-write filter from using backing child to file child. And
this is even more reasonable than renaming: for now all public
filters are file-child based.
So, it's a risky change, but risk seems small and good interface worth
it.

xlnx_dp_read allows an out-of-bounds read at its default branch because
of an improper index.
According to
https://www.xilinx.com/html_docs/registers/ug1087/ug1087-zynq-ultrascale-registers.html
(DP Module), registers 0x3A4/0x3A4/0x3AC are allowed.
DP_INT_MASK 0x000003A4 32 mixed 0xFFFFF03F Interrupt Mask Register for intrN.
DP_INT_EN 0x000003A8 32 mixed 0x00000000 Interrupt Enable Register.
DP_INT_DS 0x000003AC 32 mixed 0x00000000 Interrupt Disable Register.
In xlnx_dp_write, when the offset is 0x3A8 and 0x3AC, the virtual device
will write s->core_registers[0x3A4
>> 2]. That is to say, the maxize of s->core_registers could be ((0x3A4
>> 2) + 1). However, the current size of s->core_registers is (0x3AF >>
>> 2), that is ((0x3A4 >> 2) + 2), which is out of the range.
In xlxn_dp_read, the access to offset 0x3A8 or 0x3AC will be directed to
the offset 0x3A8 (incorrect functionality) or 0x3AC (out-of-bounds read)
rather than 0x3A4.
This patch enforces the read access to offset 0x3A8 and 0x3AC to 0x3A4,
but does not adjust the size of s->core_registers to avoid breaking
migration.

It will be for legitimate uses, i.e. simple union branch wrapper

The assertion fails when a command or event is redefined with a

Up until this point we only handled local compilers or assumed we had
everything in the container. This falls down when we are building QEMU
inside the container.
This special handling only affects tricore for now but I put it in a
case just in case we add any other "special" targets. Setting
CROSS_CC_GUEST is a bit of a hack just to ensure the test runs as we
gate on a detected compiler even though the Makefile won't actually
use it. It also means we display something sane in the configure
output.

This new adaptor visitor takes a single field of the adaptee, and exposes it
with a different name.
This will be used for QOM alias properties. Alias targets can of course
have a different name than the alias property itself (e.g. a machine's
pflash0 might be an alias of a property named 'drive'). When the target's
getter or setter invokes the visitor, it will use a different name than
what the caller expects, and the visitor will not be able to find it
(or will consume erroneously).
The solution is for alias getters and setters to wrap the incoming
visitor, and forward the sole field that the target is expecting while
renaming it appropriately.

The point of 'qemu-img convert --bitmaps' is to be a convenience for
actions that are already possible through a string of smaller
'qemu-img bitmap' sub-commands. One situation not accounted for
already is that if a source image contains an inconsistent bitmap (for
example, because a qemu process died abruptly before flushing bitmap
state), the user MUST delete those inconsistent bitmaps before
anything else useful can be done with the image.
We don't want to delete inconsistent bitmaps by default: although a
corrupt bitmap is only a loss of optimization rather than a corruption
of user-visible data, it is still nice to require the user to opt in
to the fact that they are aware of the loss of the bitmap. Still,
requiring the user to check 'qemu-img info' to see whether bitmaps are
consistent, then use 'qemu-img bitmap --remove' to remove offenders,
all before using 'qemu-img convert', is a lot more work than just
adding a knob 'qemu-img convert --bitmaps --skip-broken-bitmaps' which
opts in to skipping the broken bitmaps.
After testing the new option, also demonstrate the way to manually fix
things (either deleting bad bitmaps, or re-creating them as empty) so
that it is possible to convert without the option.

Waiting until the end of the convert operation (a potentially
time-consuming task) to finally detect that we can't copy a bitmap is
bad, comparing to failing fast up front. Furthermore, this prevents
us from leaving a file behind with a bitmap that is not marked as
inconsistent even though it does not have sane contents.
This fixes the problems exposed in the previous patch to the iotest:
it adds a fast failure up front, and even if we don't fail early, it
ensures that any bitmap we add but do not properly populate is removed
again rather than left behind incomplete.

Enhance the test to demonstrate existing less-than-stellar behavior of
qemu-img with a qcow2 image containing an inconsistent bitmap: we
don't diagnose the problem until after copying the entire image (a
potentially long time), and when we do diagnose the failure, we still
end up leaving an empty bitmap in the destination. This mess will be
cleaned up in the next patch.
While at it, rename the test now that we support useful iotest names,

is preferrable to use project specific container registries where they

The images in these registries are also refreshed on a more regular

While CentOS also has a registry it is considerably outdated compared

Currently the crypto layer exposes support for a 'des-rfb'
algorithm which is just normal single-DES, with the bits
in each key byte reversed. This special key munging is
required by the RFB protocol password authentication
mechanism.
Since the crypto layer is generic shared code, it makes
more sense to do the key byte munging in the VNC server
code, and expose normal single-DES support.
Replacing cipher 'des-rfb' by 'des' looks like an incompatible
interface change, but it doesn't matter. While the QMP schema
allows any QCryptoCipherAlgorithm for the 'cipher-alg' field
in QCryptoBlockCreateOptionsLUKS, the code restricts what can
be used at runtime. Thus the only effect is a change in error
message.
Original behaviour:
$ qemu-img create -f luks --object secret,id=sec0,data=123 -o cipher-alg=des-rfb,key-secret=sec0 demo.luks 1G
Formatting 'demo.luks', fmt=luks size=1073741824 key-secret=sec0 cipher-alg=des-rfb
qemu-img: demo.luks: Algorithm 'des-rfb' not supported

The GNUTLS crypto provider doesn't support DES-ECB, only DES-CBC.
We can use the latter to simulate the former, if we encrypt only
1 block (8 bytes) of data at a time, using an all-zeros IV. This
is a very inefficient way to use the QCryptoCipher APIs, but
since the VNC authentication challenge is only 16 bytes, this
is acceptable. No other part of QEMU should be using DES. This
test case demonstrates the equivalence of ECB and CBC for the
single-block case.

The premise behind the original behavior is that it would save people
from downloading Avocado (and other dependencies) if already installed
on the system. To be honest, I think it's extremely rare that the
same versions described as dependencies will be available on most
systems. But, the biggest motivations here are that:
1) Hacking on QEMU in the same system used to develop Avocado leads
to confusion with regards to the exact bits that are being used;
2) Not reusing Python packages from system wide installations gives
extra assurance that the same behavior will be seen from tests run
on different machines;
With regards to downloads, pip already caches the downloaded wheels
and tarballs under ~/.cache/pip, so there should not be more than
one download even if the venv is destroyed and recreated.

The tests based on the LinuxTest class give the test writer a ready to
use guest operating system, currently pinned to Fedora 31.
With this change, it's now possible to choose different distros and
versions, similar to how other tags and parameter can be set for the
target arch, accelerator, etc.
One of the reasons for this work, is that some development features
depend on updates on the guest side. For instance the tests on
virtiofs_submounts.py, require newer kernels, and may benefit from
running, say on Fedora 34, without the need for a custom kernel.
Please notice that the pre-caching of the Fedora 31 images done during
the early stages of `make check-acceptance` (before the tests are
actually executed) are not expanded here to cover every new image
added. But, the tests will download other needed images (and cache
them) during the first execution.

No behavior change is expected here, and tests can still define
a distro_checksum value if for some reason they want to override
the known distribution information.

This renames the attribute that holds the checksum for the image Linux
distribution image used.
The current name of the attribute is not very descriptive. Also, in
preparation for making the distribution used configurable, which will
add distro related parameters, attributes and tags, let's make the
naming of those more uniform.

The recently-added NBD context qemu:allocation-depth is able to
distinguish between locally-present data (even when that data is
sparse) [shown as depth 1 over NBD], and data that could not be found
anywhere in the backing chain [shown as depth 0]; and the libnbd
project was recently patched to give the human-readable name "absent"
to an allocation-depth of 0. But qemu-img map --output=json predates
that addition, and has the unfortunate behavior that all portions of
the backing chain that resolve without finding a hit in any backing
layer report the same depth as the final backing layer. This makes it
harder to reconstruct a qcow2 backing chain using just 'qemu-img map'
output, especially when using "backing":null to artificially limit a
backing chain, because it is impossible to distinguish between a
QCOW2_CLUSTER_UNALLOCATED (which defers to a [missing] backing file)
and a QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO_PLAIN cluster (which would override any
backing file), since both types of clusters otherwise show as
"data":false,"zero":true" (but note that we can distinguish a
QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO_ALLOCATED, which would also have an "offset":
listing).
The task of reconstructing a qcow2 chain was made harder in commit
0da9856851 (nbd: server: Report holes for raw images), because prior
to that point, it was possible to abuse NBD's block status command to
see which portions of a qcow2 file resulted in BDRV_BLOCK_ALLOCATED
(showing up as NBD_STATE_ZERO in isolation) vs. missing from the chain
(showing up as NBD_STATE_ZERO|NBD_STATE_HOLE); but now qemu reports
more accurate sparseness information over NBD.
An obvious solution is to make 'qemu-img map --output=json' add an
additional "present":false designation to any cluster lacking an
allocation anywhere in the chain, without any change to the "depth"
parameter to avoid breaking existing clients. The iotests have
several examples where this distinction demonstrates the additional
accuracy.

Without the allow_other mount option, no user (not even root) but the
one who started qemu/the storage daemon can access the export. Allow
users to configure the export such that such accesses are possible.
While allow_other is probably what users want, we cannot make it an
unconditional default, because passing it is only possible (for non-root
users) if the global fuse.conf configuration file allows it. Thus, the
default is an 'auto' mode, in which we first try with allow_other, and
then fall back to without.
FuseExport.allow_other reports whether allow_other was actually used as
a mount option or not. Currently, this information is not used, but a
future patch will let this field decide whether e.g. an export's UID and
GID can be changed through chmod.
One notable thing about 'auto' mode is that libfuse may print error
messages directly to stderr, and so may fusermount (which it executes).
Our export code cannot really filter or hide them. Therefore, if 'auto'
fails its first attempt and has to fall back, fusermount will print an
error message that mounting with allow_other failed.
This behavior necessitates a change to iotest 308, namely we need to
filter out this error message (because if the first attempt at mounting
with allow_other succeeds, there will be no such message).
Furthermore, common.rc's _make_test_img should use allow-other=off for
FUSE exports, because iotests generally do not need to access images
from other users, so allow-other=on or allow-other=auto have no
advantage. OTOH, allow-other=on will not work on systems where
user_allow_other is disabled, and with allow-other=auto, we get said
error message that we would need to filter out again. Just disabling
allow-other is simplest.

We do not do any permission checks in fuse_open(), so let the kernel do
them. We already let fuse_getattr() report the proper UNIX permissions,
so this should work the way we want.
This causes a change in 308's reference output, because now opening a
non-writable export with O_RDWR fails already, instead of only actually
attempting to write to it. (That is an improvement.)

The PAPR platform describes an OS environment that's presented by
a combination of a hypervisor and firmware. The features it specifies
require collaboration between the firmware and the hypervisor.
Since the beginning, the runtime component of the firmware (RTAS) has
been implemented as a 20 byte shim which simply forwards it to
a hypercall implemented in qemu. The boot time firmware component is
SLOF - but a build that's specific to qemu, and has always needed to be
updated in sync with it. Even though we've managed to limit the amount
of runtime communication we need between qemu and SLOF, there's some,
and it has become increasingly awkward to handle as we've implemented
new features.
This implements a boot time OF client interface (CI) which is
enabled by a new "x-vof" pseries machine option (stands for "Virtual Open
Firmware). When enabled, QEMU implements the custom H_OF_CLIENT hcall
which implements Open Firmware Client Interface (OF CI). This allows
using a smaller stateless firmware which does not have to manage
the device tree.
The new "vof.bin" firmware image is included with source code under
pc-bios/. It also includes RTAS blob.
This implements a handful of CI methods just to get -kernel/-initrd
working. In particular, this implements the device tree fetching and
simple memory allocator - "claim" (an OF CI memory allocator) and updates
"/memory@0/available" to report the client about available memory.
This implements changing some device tree properties which we know how
to deal with, the rest is ignored. To allow changes, this skips
fdt_pack() when x-vof=on as not packing the blob leaves some room for
appending.
In absence of SLOF, this assigns phandles to device tree nodes to make
device tree traversing work.
When x-vof=on, this adds "/chosen" every time QEMU (re)builds a tree.
This adds basic instances support which are managed by a hash map
ihandle -> [phandle].
Before the guest started, the used memory is:
0..e60 - the initial firmware
8000..10000 - stack
400000.. - kernel
3ea0000.. - initramdisk
This OF CI does not implement "interpret".
Unlike SLOF, this does not format uninitialized nvram. Instead, this
includes a disk image with pre-formatted nvram.
With this basic support, this can only boot into kernel directly.
However this is just enough for the petitboot kernel and initradmdisk to
boot from any possible source. Note this requires reasonably recent guest
kernel with:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=df5be5be8735
The immediate benefit is much faster booting time which especially
crucial with fully emulated early CPU bring up environments. Also this
may come handy when/if GRUB-in-the-userspace sees light of the day.
This separates VOF and sPAPR in a hope that VOF bits may be reused by
other POWERPC boards which do not support pSeries.
This assumes potential support for booting from QEMU backends
such as blockdev or netdev without devices/drivers used.

It can be difficult to debug issues with BHs in production environments.
Although BHs can usually be identified by looking up their ->cb()
function pointer, this requires debug information for the program. It is
also not possible to print human-readable diagnostics about BHs because
they have no identifier.
This patch adds a name to each BH. The name is not unique per instance
but differentiates between cb() functions, which is usually enough. It's
done by changing aio_bh_new() and friends to macros that stringify cb.
The next patch will use the name field when reporting leaked BHs.

When the x-blockdev-reopen was added it allowed reconfiguring the
graph by replacing backing files, but changing the 'file' option was
forbidden. Because of this restriction some operations are not
possible, notably inserting and removing block filters.
This patch adds support for replacing the 'file' option. This is
similar to replacing the backing file and the user is likewise
responsible for the correctness of the resulting graph, otherwise this

When creating an image file with a backing file, we generally try to
open the backing file (unless -u was specified), mostly to verify that
it is there, but also to get the file size if none was specified for the
new image.
For neither of these things do we need data I/O, and so we can pass
BDRV_O_NO_IO when opening the backing file. This allows us to open even
encrypted backing images without requiring the user to provide a secret.
This makes the -u switch in iotests 189 and 198 unnecessary (and the
$size parameter), so drop it, because this way we get regression tests
for this patch here.

The I/O sampling rate range is enforced to 5000 to 45000HZ according to
commit a2cd86a9. Setting I/O sampling rate with command 41h/42h, a guest
user can break this assumption and trigger an assertion in audio_calloc
via command 0xd4. This patch restricts the I/O sampling rate range for
command 41h/42h.

If we want to wake up a coroutine from a worker thread, aio_co_wake()
currently does not work. In that scenario, aio_co_wake() calls
aio_co_enter(), but there is no current AioContext and therefore
qemu_get_current_aio_context() returns the main thread. aio_co_wake()
then attempts to call aio_context_acquire() instead of going through
aio_co_schedule().
The default case of qemu_get_current_aio_context() was added to cover
synchronous I/O started from the vCPU thread, but the main and vCPU
threads are quite different. The main thread is an I/O thread itself,
only running a more complicated event loop; the vCPU thread instead
is essentially a worker thread that occasionally calls
qemu_mutex_lock_iothread(). It is only in those critical sections
that it acts as if it were the home thread of the main AioContext.
Therefore, this patch detaches qemu_get_current_aio_context() from
iothreads, which is a useless complication. The AioContext pointer
is stored directly in the thread-local variable, including for the
main loop. Worker threads (including vCPU threads) optionally behave
as temporary home threads if they have taken the big QEMU lock,
but if that is not the case they will always schedule coroutines
on remote threads via aio_co_schedule().
With this change, the stub qemu_mutex_iothread_locked() must be changed
from true to false. The previous value of true was needed because the
main thread did not have an AioContext in the thread-local variable,
but now it does have one.

While the SB16 seems to work up to 48000 Hz, the "Sound Blaster Series
Hardware Programming Guide" limit the sampling range from 4000 Hz to
44100 Hz (Section 3-9, 3-10: Digitized Sound I/O Programming, tables
3-2 and 3-3).
Later, section 6-15 (DSP Commands) is more specific regarding the 41h /
42h registers (Set digitized sound output sampling rate):
Valid sampling rates range from 5000 to 45000 Hz inclusive.
There is no comment regarding error handling if the register is filled
with an out-of-range value. (See also section 3-28 "8-bit or 16-bit
Auto-initialize Transfer"). Assume limits are enforced in hardware.

If you configure the host compiler with a multi-command stanza like:
--cc="ccache gcc"
then the configure.sh machinery falls over with confusion. Work around
this by ensuring we correctly quote so where we need a complete
evaluation we get it. Of course the has() check needs single variable
so we need to unquote that. This does mean it essentially checks that
just the ccache command exits but if we got past that step we still
check the compiler actually does something.
