e249d51952 iotests: Add test 179 to cover write zeroes with unmap
No tests were covering write zeroes with unmap. Additionally,
I needed to prove that my previous patches for correct status
reporting and write zeroes optimizations actually had an impact.

The test works for cluster_size between 8k and 2M (for smaller
sizes, it fails because our allocation patterns are not contiguous
with small clusters - in part, the largest consecutive allocation
we tend to get is often bounded by the size covered by one L2
table).

Note that testing for zero clusters is tricky: 'qemu-io map'
reports whether data comes from the current layer of the image
(useful for sniffing out which regions of the file have
QCOW_OFLAG_ZERO) - but doesn't show which clusters have mappings;
while 'qemu-img map' sees "zero":true for both unallocated and
zero clusters for any qcow2 with no backing layer (so less useful
at detecting true zero clusters), but reliably shows mappings.
So we have to rely on both queries side-by-side at each point of
the test.

40812d9373 tests: Add coverage for recent block geometry fixes
Use blkdebug's new geometry constraints to emulate setups that
have needed past regression fixes: write zeroes asserting
when running through a loopback block device with max-transfer
smaller than cluster size, and discard rounding away portions
of requests not aligned to preferred boundaries. Also, add
coverage that the block layer is honoring max transfer limits.

For now, a single iotest performs all actions, with the idea
that we can add future blkdebug constraint test cases in the
same file; but it can be split into multiple iotests if we find
reason to run one portion of the test in more setups than what
are possible in the other.

For reference, the final portion of the test (checking whether
discard passes as much as possible to the lowest layers of the
stack) works as follows:

qemu-io: discard 30M at 80000001, passed to blkdebug
blkdebug: discard 511 bytes at 80000001, -ENOTSUP (smaller than
blkdebug's 512 align)
blkdebug: discard 14371328 bytes at 80000512, passed to qcow2
qcow2: discard 739840 bytes at 80000512, -ENOTSUP (smaller than
qcow2's 1M align)
    qcow2: discard 13M bytes at 77M, succeeds
blkdebug: discard 15M bytes at 90M, passed to qcow2
    qcow2: discard 15M bytes at 90M, succeeds
blkdebug: discard 1356800 bytes at 105M, passed to qcow2
    qcow2: discard 1M at 105M, succeeds
qcow2: discard 308224 bytes at 106M, -ENOTSUP (smaller than qcow2's
1M align)
blkdebug: discard 1 byte at 111457280, -ENOTSUP (smaller than

07ff948bd1 iotests: fix 097 when run with qcow
The previous commit:

  commit a3e1505dae
  Author: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com>
  Date: Mon Dec 5 09:49:34 2016 -0600

qcow2: Don't strand clusters near 2G intervals during commit

extended the 097 test case so that it did two passes, once
with an internal snapshot, once without.

qcow (v1) does not support internal snapshots, so this change
broke test 097 when run against qcow.

This splits 097 in two, creating a new 176 that tests the
internal snapshot codepath, effectively putting 097 back
to its content before the above commit.

bb9f8dd0e1 qcow2: fix encryption during cow of sectors
Broken in previous commit:

  commit aaa4d20b49
  Author: Kevin Wolf <kwolf@redhat.com>
  Date: Wed Jun 1 15:21:05 2016 +0200

      qcow2: Make copy_sectors() byte based

The copy_sectors() code was originally using the 'sector'
parameter for encryption, which was passed in by the caller
from the QCowL2Meta.offset field (aka the guest logical
offset).

After the change, the code is using 'cluster_offset' which
was passed in from QCow2L2Meta.alloc_offset field (aka the
host physical offset).

This would cause the data to be encrypted using an incorrect
initialization vector which will in turn cause later reads
to return garbage.

Although current qcow2 built-in encryption is blocked from
usage in the emulator, one could still hit this if writing
to the file via qemu-{img,io,nbd} commands.

86ce1f6e2b qemu-img: add the 'dd' subcommand

For the start, this implements the bs, if, of and count options and requires

The image format must be specified with -O for the output if the raw format

1ef7d01021 qemu-iotests: Some more write_zeroes tests
This covers some more write_zeroes cases which are relevant for the
recent qcow2 optimisations that check the allocation status of the
backing file for partial cluster write_zeroes requests.

This needs to be separate from 034 because we can only support qcow2 in
this test case for multiple reasons: We check the allocation status
after write_zeroes with 'qemu-img map' and the optimised behaviour that
produces zero clusters is only implemented in qcow2; second, the map
command returns offsets that are qcow2 specific; and finally, we also
use 512 byte clusters which aren't supported for formats like qed.

6278ae035f block: an interoperability test for luks vs dm-crypt/cryptsetup
It is important that the QEMU luks implementation retains 100%
compatibility with the reference implementation provided by
the combination of the linux kernel dm-crypt module and cryptsetup
userspace tools.

There is a matrix of tests to be performed with different sets
of encryption settings. For each matrix entry, two tests will
be performed. One will create a LUKS image with the cryptsetup
tool and then do I/O with both cryptsetup & qemu-io. The other
will create the image with qemu-img and then again do I/O with
both cryptsetup and qemu-io.

The new I/O test 149 performs interoperability testing between
QEMU and the reference implementation. Such testing inherantly
requires elevated privileges, so to this this the user must have
configured passwordless sudo access. The test will automatically
skip if sudo is not available.

The test has to be run explicitly thus:

    cd tests/qemu-iotests
    ./check -luks 149

e4603fe139 qcow2: Fix header update with overridden backing file
In recent qemu versions, it is possible to override the backing file
name and format that is stored in the image file with values given at

behaviour would be to leave the on-disk backing file path/format
unchanged.

10d9d75ce4 qemu-io: Remove "growable" option
Remove "growable" option from the "open" command and from the qemu-io

will make sure that no request exceeds the image size, so the only way
to keep "growable" would be to use BlockBackend if it is not given and
to directly access the BDS if it is.

qemu-io is a debugging tool, therefore removing a rarely used option
will have only a very small impact, if any. There was only one
qemu-iotest which used the option; since it is not critical, this patch
just removes it.

fb13bbf2fd qemu-iotests: Add 093 for IO throttling
This case utilizes qemu-io command "aio_{read,write} -q" to verify the
effectiveness of IO throttling options.

It's implemented by driving the vm timer from qtest protocol, so the
throttling timers are signaled with determinied time duration. Then we
verify the completed IO requests are within 10% error of bps and iops
limits.

"null" protocol is used as the disk backend so that no actual disk IO is
performed on host, this will make the blockstats much more
deterministic. Both "null-aio" and "null-co" are covered, which is also
a simple cross validation test for the driver code.

7159a45b2b qcow1: Check maximum cluster size
Huge values for header.cluster_bits cause unbounded allocations (e.g.

survive those allocations, but can cause integer overflows later on.

The only cluster sizes that qemu can create are 4k (for standalone

afbcc40bee parallels: Fix catalog size integer overflow (CVE-2014-0143)
The first test case would cause a huge memory allocation, leading to a
qemu abort; the second one to a too small malloc() for the catalog
(smaller than s->catalog_size), which causes a read-only out-of-bounds
array access and on big endian hosts an endianess conversion for an
undefined memory area.

The sample image used here is not an original Parallels image. It was
created using an hexeditor on the basis of the struct that qemu uses.
Good enough for trying to crash the driver, but not for ensuring
compatibility.

acbf30ec60 qemu-iotests: add tests for rebasing zero clusters
If zero clusters are erroneously treated as unallocated, "qemu-img rebase"
will copy the backing file's contents onto the cluster.

The bug existed also in image streaming, but since the root cause was in
qcow2's is_allocated implementation it is enough to test it with qemu-img.

4dc9f9d67d qemu-iotests: Test qcow2 image creation options
Just create lots of images and try out each of the creation options that
qcow2 provides (except backing_file/fmt for now)

I'm not totally happy with the behaviour of qemu-img in each of the
cases, but let's be explicit and update the test when we do change
things later.

d2ef210cb8 qemu-iotests: qcow2: Test growing large refcount table
Actually writing all the content with 512 byte sector size would take
forever, therefore build the image file with a Python script and use
qemu-io for the last write that actually triggers the refcount table
growth.

0c81734765 qemu-iotests: add test for pausing a streaming operation
These check that a paused streaming job does not advance its offset.

Sometimes the new test fails; the map is different between the source
and the destination of the streaming because qemu-io does not always
pack adjacent clusters that have the same allocated/unallocated state.
However, this also happens with the existing test_stream testcase, and
is better fixed in qemu-io.

747051cd97 qemu-iotests: add initial tests for live block commit
Derived from the streaming test cases (030), this adds the
following 9 tests:

1. For the following image chain, commit [mid] into [backing],
and use qemu-io to verify [backing] has its original data, as
well as the data from [mid]

           [backing] <-- [mid] <-- [test]

2. Verifies that 'block-commit' with the 'speed' parameter sets the
speed parameter, as reported by 'query-block-jobs'

3. Verifies that a bogus 'device' parameter to 'block-commit'
   results in error

4-9: Appropriate error values returned for the following argument errors:
    * top == base
    * top is nonexistent
    * base is nonexistent
    * top == active layer (this is currently not supported)
    * top and base arguments are reversed
    * top argument is omitted

dc68afe0f3 qemu-iotests: add 039 qcow2 lazy refcounts test
This tests establishes the basic post-conditions of the qcow2 lazy
refcounts features:

  1. If the image was closed normally, it is marked clean.

  2. If an allocating write was performed and the image was not closed
normally, then it is marked dirty.

     a. Written data can be read back successfully.
     b. The image file can be repaired and will be marked clean again.
     c. The image file is automatically repaired when opened read/write.
