This include both userspace and in-kernel ioapic. Note that the numbers
can be inaccurate for kvm-ioapic. One reason is the same with
kvm-i8259, that when irqfd is used, irqs can be delivered all inside
kernel without our notice. Meanwhile, kvm-ioapic is specially treated
when irq numbers <ISA_NUM_IRQS, those irqs will be delivered in kernel
too via kvm-i8259 (please refer to kvm_pc_gsi_handler).

Let's try to reduce error handling a bit. In the plug/unplug case, the
device was realized and therefore we can assume that getting access to
the memory region will not fail.
For get_vmstate_memory_region() this is already handled that way.

The oldest machine type which is still used in a still maintained distro
is a pc-0.12 based machine type in RHEL6, so everything that is older
than pc-0.12 should not be used anymore. Thus let's deprecate pc-0.10
and pc-0.11 so that we can finally remove them in a future release.

Add support for multiple IOMMU indexes to the IOMMU notifier APIs.
When initializing a notifier with iommu_notifier_init(), the caller
must pass the IOMMU index that it is interested in. When a change
happens, the IOMMU implementation must pass
memory_region_notify_iommu() the IOMMU index that has changed and
that notifiers must be called for.
IOMMUs which support only a single index don't need to change.
Callers which only really support working with IOMMUs with a single
index can use the result of passing MEMTXATTRS_UNSPECIFIED to
memory_region_iommu_attrs_to_index().

A link property can be set during creation, with
object_property_add_link() and later with object_property_set_link().
add_link() doesn't add a reference to the target object, while
set_link() does.
Furthemore, OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE flags, set during add_link,
says whether a reference must be released when the property is destroyed.
This can lead to leaks if the property was later set_link(), as the
added reference is never released.
Instead, rename OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE to OBJ_PROP_LINK_STRONG
and use that has an indication on how the link handle reference
management in set_link().

QEMU 3.0 enables strict check for compression & decompression to
make the migration more robust, that depends on the source to fix
the internal design which triggers the unexpected error conditions
To make it work for migrating old version QEMU to 2.13 QEMU, we
introduce this parameter to disable the error check on the
destination which is the default behavior of the machine type
which is older than 2.13, alternately, the strict check can be
enabled explicitly as followings:

This patch removes the current hackery where IOREQ_TYPE_PCI_CONFIG
requests are handled by faking PIO to 0xcf8 and 0xcfc and replaces it
with direct calls to pci_host_config_read/write_common().
Doing so necessitates mapping BDFs to PCIDevices but maintaining a simple
QLIST in xen_device_realize/unrealize() will suffice.
NOTE: whilst config space accesses are currently limited to
PCI_CONFIG_SPACE_SIZE, this patch paves the way to increasing the
limit to PCIE_CONFIG_SPACE_SIZE when Xen gains the ability to
emulate MCFG table accesses.

Xen 4.11 has a new API to directly map guest resources. Among the resources
that can be mapped using this API are ioreq pages.
This patch modifies QEMU to attempt to use the new API should it exist,
falling back to the previous mechanism if it is unavailable.

When global_log_dirty is enabled VRAM modification tracking never
worked correctly. The address that is passed to xen_hvm_modified_memory()
is not the effective PFN but RAM block address which is not the same
for VRAM.
We need to make a translation for this address into PFN using
physmap. Since there is no way to access physmap properly inside
xen_hvm_modified_memory() let's make it a global structure.

This patch fixes a potential small window that the DMA page table might
be incomplete or invalid when the guest sends domain/context
invalidations to a device. This can cause random DMA errors for
assigned devices.
This is a major change to the VT-d shadow page walking logic. It
includes but is not limited to:
- For each VTDAddressSpace, now we maintain what IOVA ranges we have
mapped and what we have not. With that information, now we only send
MAP or UNMAP when necessary. Say, we don't send MAP notifies if we
know we have already mapped the range, meanwhile we don't send UNMAP
notifies if we know we never mapped the range at all.
- Introduce vtd_sync_shadow_page_table[_range] APIs so that we can call
in any places to resync the shadow page table for a device.
- When we receive domain/context invalidation, we should not really run
the replay logic, instead we use the new sync shadow page table API to
resync the whole shadow page table without unmapping the whole
region. After this change, we'll only do the page walk once for each
domain invalidations (before this, it can be multiple, depending on
number of notifiers per address space).
While at it, the page walking logic is also refactored to be simpler.

This patch only modifies the trace points.
Previously we were tracing page walk levels. They are redundant since
we have page mask (size) already. Now we trace something much more
useful which is the domain ID of the page walking. That can be very
useful when we trace more than one devices on the same system, so that
we can know which map is for which domain.

During the recursive page walking of IOVA page tables, some stack
variables are constant variables and never changed during the whole page
walking procedure. Isolate them into a struct so that we don't need to
pass those contants down the stack every time and multiple times.

Fasten that procedure by skipping the page table walk. That should

SECURITY IMPLICATION: this patch fixes a potential race when multiple
threads access the IOMMU IOTLB cache.
Add a per-iommu big lock to protect IOMMU status. Currently the only
thing to be protected is the IOTLB/context cache, since that can be
accessed even without BQL, e.g., in IO dataplane.
Note that we don't need to protect device page tables since that's fully
controlled by the guest kernel. However there is still possibility that
malicious drivers will program the device to not obey the rule. In that
case QEMU can't really do anything useful, instead the guest itself will
be responsible for all uncertainties.

SECURITY IMPLICATION: without this patch, any guest with both assigned
device and a vIOMMU might encounter stale IO page mappings even if guest
has already unmapped the page, which may lead to guest memory
corruption. The stale mappings will only be limited to the guest's own
memory range, so it should not affect the host memory or other guests on
the host.
During IOVA page table walking, there is a special case when the PSI
covers one whole PDE (Page Directory Entry, which contains 512 Page
Table Entries) or more. In the past, we skip that entry and we don't
notify the IOMMU notifiers. This is not correct. We should send UNMAP
notification to registered UNMAP notifiers in this case.
For UNMAP only notifiers, this might cause IOTLBs cached in the devices
even if they were already invalid. For MAP/UNMAP notifiers like
vfio-pci, this will cause stale page mappings.
This special case doesn't trigger often, but it is very easy to be
triggered by nested device assignments, since in that case we'll
possibly map the whole L2 guest RAM region into the device's IOVA
address space (several GBs at least), which is far bigger than normal
kernel driver usages of the device (tens of MBs normally).
Without this patch applied to L1 QEMU, nested device assignment to L2
guests will dump some errors like:

This should help to avoid problems with accessing the device after
migration/resume without PV drivers by migrating its PCI configuration
space state. Without an explicitly defined state record it resets
every time a VM migrates which confuses the OS and makes every
access to xen-pvdevice MMIO region to fail. PV tools enable some
logic to save and restore PCI configuration state from within the VM
every time it migrates which basically hides the issue.
Older systems will acquire the new record when migrated which should
not change their state for worse.

By default MachineClass::get_hotplug_handler is NULL and concrete board
should set it to it's own handler.
Considering there isn't any default handler, drop saving empty
MachineClass::get_hotplug_handler in child class and make PC code
consistent with spapr/s390x boards.
We can bring this back when actual usecase surfaces and do it
consistently across boards that use get_hotplug_handler().

We can just query it ourselves. When unplugging, we should always be
able to the region (as it was previously plugged). E.g. PPC already
assumed that and used &error_abort.

Let's allow to query the MemoryHotplugState directly from the machine.
If the pointer is NULL, the machine does not support memory devices. If
the pointer is !NULL, the machine supports memory devices and the
data structure contains information about the applicable physical
guest address space region.
This allows us to generically detect if a certain machine has support
for memory devices, and to generically manage it (find free address
range, plug/unplug a memory region).
We will rename "MemoryHotplugState" to something more meaningful
("DeviceMemory") after we completed factoring out the pc-dimm code into
MemoryDevice code.

On the qmp level, we already have the concept of memory devices:
"query-memory-devices"
Right now, we only support NVDIMM and PCDIMM.
We want to map other devices later into the address space of the guest.
Such device could e.g. be virtio devices. These devices will have a
guest memory range assigned but won't be exposed via e.g. ACPI. We want
to make them look like memory device, but not glued to pc-dimm.
Especially, it will not always be possible to have TYPE_PC_DIMM as a parent
class (e.g. virtio devices). Let's use an interface instead. As a first
part, convert handling of
- qmp_pc_dimm_device_list
- get_plugged_memory_size
to our new model. plug/unplug stuff etc. will follow later.
A memory device will have to provide the following functions:
- get_addr(): Necessary, as the property "addr" can e.g. not be used for
virtio devices (already defined).
- get_plugged_size(): The amount this device offers to the guest as of
now.
- get_region_size(): Because this can later on be bigger than the
plugged size.
- fill_device_info(): Fill MemoryDeviceInfo, e.g. for qmp.

Now that we can safely call QOBJECT() on QObject * as well as its
subtypes, we can have macros qobject_ref() / qobject_unref() that work
everywhere instead of having to use QINCREF() / QDECREF() for QObject
and qobject_incref() / qobject_decref() for its subtypes.
The replacement is mechanical, except I broke a long line, and added a
cast in monitor_qmp_cleanup_req_queue_locked(). Unlike
qobject_decref(), qobject_unref() doesn't accept void *.
Note that the new macros evaluate their argument exactly once, thus no
need to shout them.

Xen unstable (to be in 4.11) has two new dmops, relocate_memory and
pin_memory_cacheattr. Use these to set up the VGA memory, replacing the
previous calls to libxc. This allows the VGA console to work properly
when QEMU is running restricted (-xen-domid-restrict).
Wrapper functions are provided to allow QEMU to work with older versions
of Xen.
Tweak the error handling while making this change:
* Report pin_memory_cacheattr errors.
* Report errors even when DEBUG_HVM is not set. This is useful for
trying to understand why VGA is not working, since otherwise it just
fails silently.
* Fix the return values when an error occurs. The functions now
consistently return -1 and set errno.

privilege, but xendevicemodel_shutdown will if everything is new
enough.
xendevicemodel_shutdown is only availabe in Xen 4.10 and later, so

We need to restrict *all* the control fds that qemu opens. Looking in
/proc/PID/fd shows there are many; their allocation seems scattered
throughout Xen support code in qemu.
We must postpone the restrict call until roughly the same time as qemu
changes its uid, chroots (if applicable), and so on.
There doesn't seem to be an appropriate hook already. The RunState
change hook fires at different times depending on exactly what mode
qemu is operating in.
And it appears that no-one but the Xen code wants a hook at this phase
of execution. So, introduce a bare call to a new function
xen_setup_post, just before os_setup_post. Also provide the
appropriate stub for when Xen compilation is disabled.
We do the restriction before rather than after os_setup_post, because
xen_restrict may need to open /dev/null, and os_setup_post might have
called chroot.
Currently this does not work with migration, because when running as
the Xen device model qemu needs to signal to the toolstack that it is
ready. It currently does this using xenstore, and for incoming
migration (but not for ordinary startup) that happens after
os_setup_post.
It is correct that this happens late: we want the incoming migration
stream to be processed by a restricted qemu. The fix for this will be
to do the startup notification a different way, without using
xenstore. (QMP is probably a reasonable choice.)
So for now this restriction feature cannot be used in conjunction with
migration. (Note that this is not a regression in this patch, because
previously the -xen-restrict-domid call was, in fact, simply
ineffective!) We will revisit this in the Xen 4.11 release cycle.

The ISA serial port handling in serial-isa.c imposes a limit
of 4 serial ports. This is because we only know of 4 IO port
and IRQ settings for them, and is unrelated to the generic
MAX_SERIAL_PORTS limit, though they happen to both be set at
4 currently.
Use a new MAX_ISA_SERIAL_PORTS wherever that is the correct
limit to be checking against.

When migrating from a pre-2.9 QEMU, no clock_is_reliable flag is
transferred. We should assume that the source host has an unreliable
KVM_GET_CLOCK, rather than using whatever was determined locally, to
ensure that any drift from the TSC-based value calculated by the guest
is corrected.

The code path where mh_load_end_addr is non-zero in the Multiboot
header checks that mh_load_end_addr >= mh_load_addr and so
mb_load_size is checked. However, mb_load_size is not checked when
calculated from the file size, when mh_load_end_addr is 0.
If the kernel binary size is larger than can fit in the address space
after load_addr, we ended up with a kernel_size that is smaller than
load_size, which means that we read the file into a too small buffer.
Add a check to reject kernel files with such Multiboot headers.

ACPI 6.2A Table 5-129 "SPA Range Structure" requires the proximity
domain of a NVDIMM SPA range must match with corresponding entry in
SRAT table.
The address ranges of vNVDIMM in QEMU are allocated from the
hot-pluggable address space, which is entirely covered by one SRAT
memory affinity structure. However, users can set the vNVDIMM
proximity domain in NFIT SPA range structure by the 'node' property of
'-device nvdimm' to a value different than the one in the above SRAT
memory affinity structure.
In order to solve such proximity domain mismatch, this patch builds
one SRAT memory affinity structure for each DIMM device present at
boot time, including both PC-DIMM and NVDIMM, with the proximity
domain specified in '-device pc-dimm' or '-device nvdimm'.
The remaining hot-pluggable address space is covered by one or multiple
SRAT memory affinity structures with the proximity domain of the last
node as before.

build_append_foo() API doesn't need explicit endianness
conversions which eliminates a source of errors and
it makes build_fadt() look like declarative definition of
FADT table in ACPI spec, which makes it easy to review.
Also it allows easily extending FADT to support other
revisions which will be used by follow up patches
where build_fadt() will be reused for ARM target.

move FADT data initialization out of fadt_setup() into dedicated
init_fadt_data() that will set common for pc/q35 values in
AcpiFadtData structure and acpi_get_pm_info() will complement
it with pc/q35 specific values initialization.
That will allow to get rid of fadt_setup() and generalize
build_fadt() so it could be easily extended for rev5 and
reused by ARM target.
While at it also move facs/dsdt/xdsdt offsets from build_fadt()
arg list into AcpiFadtData, as they belong to the same dataset.

After reviewing a patch from Philippe that removes block-backend.h
from hw/lm32/milkymist.c, I noticed that this header is included
unnecessarily in a lot of other files, too. Remove those unneeded
includes to speed up the compilation process a little bit.

The e1000 NIC is getting old and is not a very good default for a
PCIe machine type. Change it to e1000e, which should be supported
by a good number of guests.
In particular, drivers for 82574 were added first to Linux 2.6.27 (2008)
and Windows 2008 R2. This does mean that Windows 2008 will not work
anymore with Q35 machine types and a default "-net nic -net xxx" network
configuration; it did work before because it does have an AHCI driver.
However, Windows 2008 has been declared out of main stream support
in 2015. It will get out of extended support in 2020. Windows 2008
R2 has the same end of support dates and, since the two are basically
Vista vs. Windows 7, R2 probably is more popular.

Change all fprintf(stderr...) calls in hw/i386/multiboot.c to call
error_report() instead, including the mb_debug macro. Remove the "\n"
from strings passed to all modified calls, since error_report() appends
one.

Automatic creation of SCSI controllers for "-drive if=scsi" for x86
machines was quite a bad idea (see description of commit f778a82f0c
for details). This is marked as deprecated since QEMU v2.9.0, and as
far as I know, nobody complained that this is still urgently required
anymore. Time to remove this now.

The previous commit improved compile time by including less of the
generated QAPI headers. This is impossible for stuff defined directly
in qapi-schema.json, because that ends up in headers that that pull in
everything.
Move everything but include directives from qapi-schema.json to new
sub-module qapi/misc.json, then include just the "misc" shard where
possible.
It's possible everywhere, except:
* monitor.c needs qmp-command.h to get qmp_init_marshal()
* monitor.c, ui/vnc.c and the generated qapi-event-FOO.c need
qapi-event.h to get enum QAPIEvent
Perhaps we'll get rid of those some other day.
Adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 120 instead
of 2300 out of 5100 objects.

In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in
qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100
objects.
The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h,
qapi-types.h. Each of these headers still includes all its shards.
Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need.
To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now
recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects. The next commit will
improve it further.

former don't actually need the latter. Drop the include, and add it
to the places that actually need it.

The macro expansions of qdict_put_TYPE() and qlist_append_TYPE() need
qbool.h, qnull.h, qnum.h and qstring.h to compile. We include qnull.h
and qnum.h in the headers, but not qbool.h and qstring.h. Works,
because we include those wherever the macros get used.
Open-coding these helpers is of dubious value. Turn them into
functions and drop the includes from the headers.
This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qapi/qmp/qnum.h
from 4551 (out of 4743) to 46 in my "build everything" tree. For
qapi/qmp/qnull.h, the number drops from 4552 to 21.

tpm_crb is a device for TPM 2.0 Command Response Buffer (CRB)
Interface as defined in TCG PC Client Platform TPM Profile (PTP)
Specification Family “2.0” Level 00 Revision 01.03 v22.
The PTP allows device implementation to switch between TIS and CRB
model at run time, but given that CRB is a simpler device to
implement, I chose to implement it as a different device.
The device doesn't implement other locality than 0 for now (my laptop
TPM doesn't either, so I assume this isn't so bad)
Tested with some success with Linux upstream and Windows 10, seabios &
modified ovmf. The device is recognized and correctly transmit
command/response with passthrough & emu. However, we are missing PPI
ACPI part atm.

Remove dependency of possible_cpus on 1st CPU instance,
which decouples configuration data from CPU instances that
are created using that data.
Also later it would be used for enabling early cpu to numa node
configuration at runtime qmp_query_hotpluggable_cpus() should
provide a list of available cpu slots at early stage,
before machine_init() is called and the 1st cpu is created,
so that mgmt might be able to call it and use output to set
numa mapping.
Use MachineClass::possible_cpu_arch_ids() callback to set
cpu type info, along with the rest of possible cpu properties,
to let machine define which cpu type* will be used.
* for SPAPR it will be a spapr core type and for ARM/s390x/x86
a respective descendant of CPUClass.
Move parse_numa_opts() in vl.c after cpu_model is parsed into
cpu_type so that possible_cpu_arch_ids() would know which
cpu_type to use during layout initialization.

The only user-creatable sysbus devices in qemu-system-x86_64 are
amd-iommu, intel-iommu, and xen-backend. xen-backend is handled
by xen_set_dynamic_sysbus(), so we only need to add amd-iommu and
intel-iommu.

The existing has_dynamic_sysbus flag makes the machine accept
every user-creatable sysbus device type on the command-line.
Replace it with a list of allowed device types, so machines can
easily accept some sysbus devices while rejecting others.
To keep exactly the same behavior as before, the existing
has_dynamic_sysbus=true assignments are replaced with a
TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICE entry on the allowed list. Other patches
will replace the TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICE entries with more specific
lists of devices.

Starting qemu with
qemu-system-x86_64 -S -M isapc -device {amd|intel}-iommu
leads to a segfault. The code assume PCI bus is present and
tries to access the bus structure without checking.
Since Intel VT-d and AMDVI should only work with PCI, add a
check for PCI bus and return error if not present.

The current implementation of Intel IOMMU code only supports 39 bits
iova address width. This patch provides a new parameter (x-aw-bits)
for intel-iommu to extend its address width to 48 bits but keeping the
default the same (39 bits). The reason for not changing the default
is to avoid potential compatibility problems with live migration of
intel-iommu enabled QEMU guest. The only valid values for 'x-aw-bits'
parameter are 39 and 48.
After enabling larger address width (48), we should be able to map
larger iova addresses in the guest. For example, a QEMU guest that
is configured with large memory ( >=1TB ). To check whether 48 bits
aw is enabled, we can grep in the guest dmesg output with line:
"DMAR: Host address width 48".

The current implementation of Intel IOMMU code only supports 39 bits
host/iova address width so number of macros use hard coded values based
on that. This patch is to redefine them so they can be used with
variable address widths. This patch doesn't add any new functionality
but enables adding support for 48 bit address width.

When -no-acpi option is used with Q35 machine type, no guest ACPI is
built, but the ACPI device is still created, so only checking the
presence of ACPI device before memory plug/unplug is not enough in
such cases. Check whether ACPI is disabled globally in addition and
fail memory plug/unplug if it's disabled.

Let's leverage the i8259 common code for kvm-i8259 too.
I think it's still possible that stats can lost when i8259 is in kernel
and meanwhile when irqfd is used, e.g., by vfio or vhost devices.
However that should be rare IMHO since they should be using MSIs mostly
if they really want performance (that's why people use vhost and device
assignment), and no old INTx should be used. As long as the INTx users
are emulated in QEMU the stats will be correct.
For "info pic", it should be always accurate since we fetch kvm regs
before dump.
More importantly, it's just too simple to do this now - it's only 10+
LOC to gain this feature.

pci_find_primary_bus() only has one user, in pc_xen_hvm_init(). That's
inside the machine construction code, so it already has easy access to the
machine's primary PCI bus.
Get it directly, and thereby remove pci_find_primary_bus(). This removes
one of only a handful of users of the ugly pci_host_bridges global.

The bus pointer in PCIDevice is basically redundant with QOM information.
It's always initialized to the qdev_get_parent_bus(), the only difference
is the type.
Therefore this patch eliminates the field, instead creating a pci_get_bus()
helper to do the type mangling to derive it conveniently from the QOM
Device object underneath.

when qemu is started with '-no-acpi' CLI option, an attempt
to unplug a CPU using device_del results in null pointer
dereference at:
#0 object_get_class
#1 pc_machine_device_unplug_request_cb
#2 qmp_marshal_device_del
which is caused by pcms->acpi_dev == NULL due to ACPI support
being disabled.
Considering that ACPI support is necessary for unplug to work,
check that it's enabled and fail unplug request gracefully
if no acpi device were found.

Linux and Windows need ACPI SRAT table to make memory hotplug work properly,
however currently QEMU doesn't create SRAT table if numa options aren't present
on CLI.
Which breaks both linux and windows guests in certain conditions:
* Windows: won't enable memory hotplug without SRAT table at all
* Linux: if QEMU is started with initial memory all below 4Gb and no SRAT table
present, guest kernel will use nommu DMA ops, which breaks 32bit hw drivers
when memory is hotplugged and guest tries to use it with that drivers.
Fix above issues by automatically creating a numa node when QEMU is started with
memory hotplug enabled but without '-numa' options on CLI.
(PS: auto-create numa node only for new machine types so not to break migration).
Which would provide SRAT table to guests without explicit -numa options on CLI
and would allow:
* Windows: to enable memory hotplug
* Linux: switch to SWIOTLB DMA ops, to bounce DMA transfers to 32bit allocated
buffers that legacy drivers/hw can handle.

Currently there is no MMIO range over 4G
reserved for PCI hotplug. Since the 32bit PCI hole
depends on the number of cold-plugged PCI devices
and other factors, it is very possible is too small
to hotplug PCI devices with large BARs.
Fix it by reserving 2G for I4400FX chipset
in order to comply with older Win32 Guest OSes
and 32G for Q35 chipset.
Even if the new defaults of pci-hole64-size will appear in
"info qtree" also for older machines, the property was
not implemented so no changes will be visible to guests.
Note this is a regression since prev QEMU versions had
some range reserved for 64bit PCI hotplug.

Legacy PCI device assignment has been removed from Linux in 4.12,
and had been deprecated 2 years ago there. We can remove it from
QEMU as well.
The ROM loading code was shared with Xen PCI passthrough, so move
it to hw/xen.

hot_add_cpu is set in pc_machine_class_init(), so we don't
need to set it in pc_q35_machine_options(), pc_i440fx_machine_options()
and xenfv_machine_options(), except to clear it in

We don't touch isapc when we change guest ABI and add new entries
to PC_COMPAT_* or new PCMachineClass compat flags. This means
isapc never guaranteed guest ABI and cross-QEMU-version live
migration compatibility. There's no point in keeping code for
kvm-pv-eoi and APIC ID compatibility in pc_init_isa().

Add INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE to all direct subtypes of
TYPE_PCI_DEVICE, except:
1) The ones that already have INTERFACE_PCIE_DEVICE set:
* base-xhci
* e1000e
* nvme
* pvscsi
* vfio-pci
* virtio-pci
* vmxnet3
2) base-pci-bridge
Not all PCI bridges are Conventional PCI devices, so
INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE is added only to the subtypes
that are actually Conventional PCI:
* dec-21154-p2p-bridge
* i82801b11-bridge
* pbm-bridge
* pci-bridge
The direct subtypes of base-pci-bridge not touched by this patch
are:
* xilinx-pcie-root: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-pci-bridge: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-port: all non-abstract subtypes of pcie-port are already
marked as PCIe-only devices.
3) megasas-base
Not all megasas devices are Conventional PCI devices, so the
interface names are added to the subclasses registered by
megasas_register_types(), according to information in the
megasas_devices[] array.
"megasas-gen2" already implements INTERFACE_PCIE_DEVICE, so add
INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE only to "megasas".

Reintroduce the write callback that was removed when write support was
removed in commit 023e314856.
Contrary to the previous callback implementation, the write_cb
callback is called whenever a write happened, so handlers must be
ready to handle partial write as necessary.

Modify the pre_save method on VMStateDescription to return an int
rather than void so that it potentially can fail.
Changed zillions of devices to make them return 0; the only
case I've made it return non-0 is hw/intc/s390_flic_kvm.c that already
had an error_report/return case.
Note: If you add an error exit in your pre_save you must emit
an error_report to say why.

Currently, Using the fisrt node without memory on the machine makes
QEMU unhappy. With this example command line:
... \

-numa node,nodeid=3 \
Guest reports "No NUMA configuration found" and the NUMA topology is
wrong.
This is because when QEMU builds ACPI SRAT, it regards node 0 as the
default node to deal with the memory hole(640K-1M). this means the
node0 must have some memory(>1M), but, actually it can have no
memory.
Fix this problem by cut out the 640K hole in the same way the PCI
4G hole does.

Calculating default node-ids for CPUs in possible_cpu_arch_ids()
is rather fragile since defaults calculation uses nb_numa_nodes but
callback might be potentially called early before all -numa CLI
options are parsed, which would lead to cpus assigned only upto
nb_numa_nodes at the time possible_cpu_arch_ids() is called.
Issue was introduced by
(7c88e65 numa: mirror cpu to node mapping in MachineState::possible_cpus)
and for example CLI:
-smp 4 -numa node,cpus=0 -numa node
would set props.node-id in possible_cpus array for every non
explicitly mapped CPU to the first node.
Issue is not visible to guest nor to mgmt interface due to
1) implictly mapped cpus are forced to the first node in
case of partial mapping
2) in case of default mapping possible_cpu_arch_ids() is
called after all -numa options are parsed (resulting
in correct mapping).
However it's fragile to rely on late execution of
possible_cpu_arch_ids(), therefore add machine specific
callback that returns node-id for CPU and use it to calculate/
set defaults at machine_numa_finish_init() time when all -numa
options are parsed.

While loading kernel via multiboot-v1 image, (flags & 0x00010000)
indicates that multiboot header contains valid addresses to load
the kernel image. These addresses are used to compute kernel
size and kernel text offset in the OS image. Validate these
address values to avoid an OOB access issue.
This is CVE-2017-14167.

HW part of ACPI PCI hotplug in QEMU depends on ACPI_PCIHP_PROP_BSEL
being set on a PCI bus that supports ACPI hotplug. It should work
regardless of the source of ACPI tables (QEMU generator/legacy SeaBIOS/Xen).
So move ACPI_PCIHP_PROP_BSEL initialization into HW ACPI implementation
part from QEMU's ACPI table generator.
To do PCI passthrough with Xen, the property ACPI_PCIHP_PROP_BSEL needs
to be set, but this was done only when ACPI tables are built which is
not needed for a Xen guest. The need for the property starts with commit
"pc: pcihp: avoid adding ACPI_PCIHP_PROP_BSEL twice"
(f0c9d64a68).
Adding find_i440fx into stubs so that mips-softmmu target can be built.

The 'm->numa_auto_assign_ram = numa_legacy_auto_assign_ram;' line
was supposed to be in pc_i440fx_2_9_machine_options() (see commit
3bfe5716 "numa: equally distribute memory on nodes"), but the
merge commit adb354dd ("Merge remote-tracking branch
'mst/tags/for_upstream' into staging") moved it to the
pc_i440fx_2_10_machine_options().
Move the line back to pc_i440fx_2_9_machine_options().

QEMU currently crashes when trying to use a 'pc-dimm' on the pseries
machine without specifying its 'memdev' property. This happens because
pc_dimm_get_memory_region() does not check whether the 'memdev' property
has properly been set by the user. Looking closer at this function, it's
also obvious that it is using &error_abort to call another function - and
this is bad in a function that is used in the hot-plugging calling chain
since this can also cause QEMU to exit unexpectedly.
So let's fix these issues in a proper way now: Add a "Error **errp"
parameter to pc_dimm_get_memory_region() which we use in case the 'memdev'
property has not been set by the user, and which we can use instead of
the &error_abort, and change the callers of get_memory_region() to make
use of this "errp" parameter for proper error checking.

w2k used to boot on QEMU until revision of FADT has
been bumped to rev3

looking at bios ROM mapping in QEMU it seems that only isapc
(i.e. not PCI enabled machine) requires ROM being mapped as
RW in other cases BIOS is mapped as RO. Do the same for option
ROM 'pc.rom' when machine has PCI enabled.
As useful side-effect pc.rom MemoryRegion stops being
put in vhost memory map (filtered out by vhost_section()),
which reduces number of entries by 1.

while it's possible to add the 6th DIMM during hotplug
on source.
Issue is caused by the fact that number of entries in vhost map
is bigger on 1 entry, when -device is processed, than
after guest boots up, and that offending entry belongs to
'pc.rom', it's not like vhost intends to do IO in ROM range
so making it RO hides region from vhost and makes number
of entries in vhost memory map at -device/machine_done time
match number of entries after guest boots.

IOMMUTLBEntry.iova is returned incorrectly on one PT path (though mostly
we cannot really trigger this path, even if we do, we are mostly
disgarding this value, so it didn't break anything). Fix it by
converting the VTD_PAGE_MASK into the correct definition
VTD_PAGE_MASK_4K, then remove VTD_PAGE_MASK.

Under certain circumstances normal xen-mapcache functioning may be broken
by guest's actions. This may lead to either QEMU performing exit() due to
a caught bad pointer (and with QEMU process gone the guest domain simply
appears hung afterwards) or actual use of the incorrect pointer inside
QEMU address space -- a write to unmapped memory is possible. The bug is
hard to reproduce on a i440 machine as multiple DMA sources are required
(though it's possible in theory, using multiple emulated devices), but can
be reproduced somewhat easily on a Q35 machine using an emulated AHCI
controller -- each NCQ queue command slot may be used as an independent
DMA source ex. using READ FPDMA QUEUED command, so a single storage
device on the AHCI controller port will be enough to produce multiple DMAs
(up to 32). The detailed description of the issue follows.
Xen-mapcache provides an ability to map parts of a guest memory into
QEMU's own address space to work with.
There are two types of cache lookups:
- translating a guest physical address into a pointer in QEMU's address
space, mapping a part of guest domain memory if necessary (while trying
to reduce a number of such (re)mappings to a minimum)
- translating a QEMU's pointer back to its physical address in guest RAM
These lookups are managed via two linked-lists of structures.
MapCacheEntry is used for forward cache lookups, while MapCacheRev -- for
reverse lookups.
Every guest physical address is broken down into 2 parts:
address_index = phys_addr >> MCACHE_BUCKET_SHIFT;
address_offset = phys_addr & (MCACHE_BUCKET_SIZE - 1);
MCACHE_BUCKET_SHIFT depends on a system (32/64) and is equal to 20 for
a 64-bit system (which assumed for the further description). Basically,
this means that we deal with 1 MB chunks and offsets within those 1 MB
chunks. All mappings are created with 1MB-granularity, i.e. 1MB/2MB/3MB
etc. Most DMA transfers typically are less than 1MB, however, if the
transfer crosses any 1MB border(s) - than a nearest larger mapping size
will be used, so ex. a 512-byte DMA transfer with the start address
700FFF80h will actually require a 2MB range.
Current implementation assumes that MapCacheEntries are unique for a given
address_index and size pair and that a single MapCacheEntry may be reused
by multiple requests -- in this case the 'lock' field will be larger than
1. On other hand, each requested guest physical address (with 'lock' flag)
is described by each own MapCacheRev. So there may be multiple MapCacheRev
entries corresponding to a single MapCacheEntry. The xen-mapcache code
uses MapCacheRev entries to retrieve the address_index & size pair which
in turn used to find a related MapCacheEntry. The 'lock' field within
a MapCacheEntry structure is actually a reference counter which shows
a number of corresponding MapCacheRev entries.
The bug lies in ability for the guest to indirectly manipulate with the
xen-mapcache MapCacheEntries list via a special sequence of DMA
operations, typically for storage devices. In order to trigger the bug,
guest needs to issue DMA operations in specific order and timing.
Although xen-mapcache is protected by the mutex lock -- this doesn't help
in this case, as the bug is not due to a race condition.
Suppose we have 3 DMA transfers, namely A, B and C, where
- transfer A crosses 1MB border and thus uses a 2MB mapping
- transfers B and C are normal transfers within 1MB range
- and all 3 transfers belong to the same address_index
In this case, if all these transfers are to be executed one-by-one
(without overlaps), no special treatment necessary -- each transfer's
mapping lock will be set and then cleared on unmap before starting
the next transfer.
The situation changes when DMA transfers overlap in time, ex. like this:

In this situation the following sequence of actions happens:
1. transfer A creates a mapping to 2MB area (lock=1)
2. transfer B (1MB) tries to find available mapping but cannot find one
because transfer A is still in progress, and it has 2MB size + non-zero
lock. So transfer B creates another mapping -- same address_index,
but 1MB size.
3. transfer A completes, making 1st mapping entry available by setting its
lock to 0
4. transfer C starts and tries to find available mapping entry and sees
that 1st entry has lock=0, so it uses this entry but remaps the mapping
to a 1MB size
5. transfer B completes and by this time
- there are two locked entries in the MapCacheEntry list with the SAME
values for both address_index and size
- the entry for transfer B actually resides farther in list while
transfer C's entry is first
6. xen_ram_addr_from_mapcache() for transfer B gets correct address_index
and size pair from corresponding MapCacheRev entry, but then it starts
looking for MapCacheEntry with these values and finds the first entry
-- which belongs to transfer C.
At this point there may be following possible (bad) consequences:
1. xen_ram_addr_from_mapcache() will use a wrong entry->vaddr_base value
in this statement:
raddr = (reventry->paddr_index << MCACHE_BUCKET_SHIFT) +
((unsigned long) ptr - (unsigned long) entry->vaddr_base);
resulting in an incorrent raddr value returned from the function. The
(ptr - entry->vaddr_base) expression may produce both positive and negative
numbers and its actual value may differ greatly as there are many
map/unmap operations take place. If the value will be beyond guest RAM
limits then a "Bad RAM offset" error will be triggered and logged,
followed by exit() in QEMU.
2. If raddr value won't exceed guest RAM boundaries, the same sequence
of actions will be performed for xen_invalidate_map_cache_entry() on DMA
unmap, resulting in a wrong MapCacheEntry being unmapped while DMA
operation which uses it is still active. The above example must
be extended by one more DMA transfer in order to allow unmapping as the
first mapping in the list is sort of resident.
The patch modifies the behavior in which MapCacheEntry's are added to the
list, avoiding duplicates.

If we have a system with xenforeignmemory_map2() implemented
we don't need to save/restore physmap on suspend/restore
anymore. In case we resume a VM without physmap - try to
recreate the physmap during memory region restore phase and
remap map cache entries accordingly. The old code is left
for compatibility reasons.

This new call is trying to update a requested map cache entry
according to the changes in the physmap. The call is searching
for the entry, unmaps it and maps again at the same place using
a new guest address. If the mapping is dummy this call will
make it real.
This function makes use of a new xenforeignmemory_map2() call
with an extended interface that was recently introduced in
libxenforeignmemory [1].

Dummys are simple anonymous mappings that are placed instead
of regular foreign mappings in certain situations when we need
to postpone the actual mapping but still have to give a
memory region to QEMU to play with.
This is planned to be used for restore on Xen.

Commit 090fa1c8 "add support for unplugging NVMe disks..." extended the
existing disk unplug flag to cover NVMe disks as well as IDE and SCSI.
The recent thread on the xen-devel mailing list [1] has highlighted that
this is not desirable behaviour: PV frontends should be able to distinguish
NVMe disks from other types of disk and should have separate control over
whether they are unplugged.
This patch defines a new bit in the unplug mask for this purpose (see Xen
commit [2]) and also tidies up the definitions of, and improves the
comments regarding, the previously exiting bits in the protocol.

This defines new QOM object - IOMMUMemoryRegion - with MemoryRegion
as a parent.
This moves IOMMU-related fields from MR to IOMMU MR. However to avoid
dymanic QOM casting in fast path (address_space_translate, etc),
this adds an @is_iommu boolean flag to MR and provides new helper to
do simple cast to IOMMU MR - memory_region_get_iommu. The flag
is set in the instance init callback. This defines
memory_region_is_iommu as memory_region_get_iommu()!=NULL.
This switches MemoryRegion to IOMMUMemoryRegion in most places except
the ones where MemoryRegion may be an alias.

In mttcg, calling pause_all_vcpus() during execution from the
generated TBs causes a deadlock if some vCPU is waiting for exclusive
execution in start_exclusive(). Fix this by using the aync_safe_*
framework instead of pausing vcpus for patching instructions.

When the guest unplugs the emulated NICs, cleanup the peer for each NIC
as it is not needed anymore. Most importantly, this allows the tap
interfaces which QEMU holds open to be closed and removed.

pc.h and sysemu/kvm.h are also included from common code (where
CONFIG_KVM is not available), so the #defines that depend on CONFIG_KVM
should not be declared here to avoid that anybody is using them in a
wrong way. Since we're also going to poison CONFIG_KVM for common code,
let's move them to kvm_i386.h instead. Most of the dummy definitions
from sysemu/kvm.h are also unused since the code that uses them is
only compiled for CONFIG_KVM (e.g. target/i386/kvm.c), so the unused
defines are also simply dropped here instead of being moved.

The problem is that vfio work introduced dynamic memory region
switching (actually it is also used for future PT mode), and this memory
region layout is not properly delivered to destination when migration
happens. Solution is to rebuild the layout in post_load.

In assigned_device_pci_cap_init(), first, error messages are filled
to a local_err variable, then through error_propagate() pass to
the parameter of errp. It leads to cumbersome code. In order to
avoid the extra local_err and error_propagate(), drop it and use
errp instead.

When the function no success value to transmit, it usually make the
function return void. It has turned out not to be a success, because
it means that the extra local_err variable and error_propagate() will
be needed. It leads to cumbersome code, therefore, transmit success/
failure in the return value is worth. So fix the return type to avoid
it.

After the patch 'Make errp the last parameter of pci_add_capability()',
pci_add_capability() and pci_add_capability2() now do exactly the same.
So drop the wrapper pci_add_capability() of pci_add_capability2(), then
replace the pci_add_capability2() with pci_add_capability() everywhere.

The VT-d spec (section 6.5.2) prescribes software to zero the
Invalidation Queue Tail Register before enabling the VTD_GCMD_QIE
Global Command Register bit. Windows Server 2012 R2 and possibly
other older Windows versions violate the protocol and set a
non-zero queue tail first, which in effect makes them crash early
on boot with -device intel-iommu,intremap=on.
This commit relaxes the check and instead of failing to enable
VTD_GCMD_QIE with vtd_err_qi_enable, it behaves as if the tail
register was set just after enabling VTD_GCMD_QIE
(see vtd_handle_iqt_write).

its meaning, then renamed to "send_configuration". Again, using
HW_COMPAT_2_3 for old PC/SPAPR machines, and accel_register_prop() for
xen_init().

Switch to use QNum/uint where appropriate to remove i64 limitation.
The input visitor will cast i64 input to u64 for compatibility
reasons (existing json QMP client already use negative i64 for large
u64, and expect an implicit cast in qemu).
Note: before the patch, uint64_t values above INT64_MAX are sent over
json QMP as negative values, e.g. UINT64_MAX is sent as -1. After the
patch, they are sent unmodified. Clearly a bug fix, but we have to
consider compatibility issues anyway. libvirt should cope fine,
because its parsing of unsigned integers accepts negative values
modulo 2^64. There's hope that other clients will, too.

We would like to use a same QObject type to represent numbers, whether
they are int, uint, or floats. Getters will allow some compatibility
between the various types if the number fits other representations.

Commit e987c37aee ("hw/i386: check if
nvdimm is enabled before plugging") introduced a check to reject nvdimm
hotplug if -machine pc,nvdimm=on was not given.
This check executes after pc_dimm_memory_plug() has already completed
and does not reverse the effect of this function in the case of failure.
Perform the check before calling pc_dimm_memory_plug(). This fixes the
following abort:

First, let vtd_do_iommu_translate() return a status, so that we
explicitly knows whether error occured. Meanwhile, we make sure that
IOMMUTLBEntry is filled in in that.
Then, cleanup vtd_iommu_translate a bit. So even with PT we'll get a log
now. Also, remove useless assignments.

We have converted many of the DPRINTF() into traces. This patch does the
last 100+ ones.
To debug VT-d when error happens, let's try enable:
-trace enable="vtd_err*"
This should works just like the old GENERAL but of course better, since
we don't need to recompile.
Similar rules apply to the other modules. I was trying to make the
prefix good enough for sub-module debugging.

Do an update of system_time_msr address every time before reading
the value of tsc_timestamp from guest's kvmclock page.
There is no other code paths which ensure that qemu has an up-to-date
value of system_time_msr. So, force this update on guest's tsc_timestamp
reading.
This bug causes effect on those nested setups which turn off TPR access
interception for L2 guests and that access being intercepted by L0 doesn't
show up in L1.
Linux bootstrap initiate kvmclock before APIC initializing causing TPR access.
That's why on L1 guests, having TPR interception turned on for L2, the effect
of the bug is not revealed.
This patch fixes this problem by making sure it knows the correct
system_time_msr address every time it is needed.

It fixes/add missing _PXM object for non mapped CPU (x86)
and missing fdt node (virt-arm).
It ensures that possible_cpus contains complete mapping if
numa is enabled by the time machine_init() is executed.
As result non completely mapped CPUs:
1) appear in ACPI/fdt blobs
2) QMP query-hotpluggable-cpus command shows bound nodes for such CPUs
3) allows to drop checks for has_node_id in numa only code,
reducing number of invariants incomplete mapping could produce
4) moves fixup/implicit node init from runtime numa_cpu_pre_plug()
(when CPU object is created) to machine_numa_finish_init() which
helps to fix [1, 2] and make possible_cpus complete source
of numa mapping available even before CPUs are created.

For reasons unknown, Windows won't online all memory, both at command
line and hot-plugged later, unless the hotplug mem hole SRAT entry
specifies a node greater than or equal to the ones where memory is
added.
Using the highest node on the machine makes recent versions of Windows
happy.
With this example command line:

This patch converts the old "is_write" bool into IOMMUAccessFlags. The
difference is that "is_write" can only express either read/write, but
sometimes what we really want is "none" here (neither read nor write).
Replay is an good example - during replay, we should not check any RW
permission bits since thats not an actual IO at all.

Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or
reset to use the enum added in the previous patch.
It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no
arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the
host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd
still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots;
changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly
categorized all callers.
Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request
causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the
information to reset requests.

We want to track why a guest was shutdown; in particular, being able
to tell the difference between a guest request (such as ACPI request)
and host request (such as SIGINT) will prove useful to libvirt.
Since all requests eventually end up changing shutdown_requested in
vl.c, the logical change is to make that value track the reason,
rather than its current 0/1 contents.
Since command-line options control whether a reset request is turned
into a shutdown request instead, the same treatment is given to
reset_requested.
This patch adds an internal enum ShutdownCause that describes reasons
that a shutdown can be requested, and changes qemu_system_reset() to
pass the reason through, although for now nothing is actually changed
with regards to what gets reported. The enum could be exported via
QAPI at a later date, if deemed necessary, but for now, there has not
been a request to expose that much detail to end clients.
For the most part, we turn 0 into SHUTDOWN_CAUSE_NONE, and 1 into
SHUTDOWN_CAUSE_HOST_ERROR; the only specific case where we have enough
information right now to use a different value is when we are reacting
to a host signal. It will take a further patch to edit all call-sites
that can trigger a reset or shutdown request to properly pass in any
other reasons; this patch includes TODOs to point such places out.
qemu_system_reset() trades its 'bool report' parameter for a
'ShutdownCause reason', with all non-zero values having the same
effect; this lets us get rid of the weird #defines for VMRESET_*
as synonyms for bools.

as guests uses that as an indicator that hotplug is supported
(even though it's unused). Unfortunately we can't fix this
on the stable branch since that would break migration.

An ioapic device is already created by the q35 initialization
code, and using "-device ioapic" or "-device kvm-ioapic" will
always fail with "Only 1 ioapics allowed". Remove the

kvmclock should be used by guests only when the appropriate CPUID
feature flags are set on the VCPU, and it is automatically
created by kvmclock_create() when those feature flags are set.
This means creating a kvmclock device using -device is useless.
Remove user_creatable from its device class.

cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet in TYPE_SYSBUS, making all
sysbus devices appear on "-device help" and lack the "no-user"
flag in "info qdm".
To fix this, we can set user_creatable=false by default on
TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICE, but this requires setting
user_creatable=true explicitly on the sysbus devices that
actually work with -device.
Fortunately today we have just a few has_dynamic_sysbus=1
machines: virt, pc-q35-*, ppce500, and spapr.
virt, ppce500, and spapr have extra checks to ensure just a few
device types can be instantiated:
* virt supports only TYPE_VFIO_CALXEDA_XGMAC, TYPE_VFIO_AMD_XGBE.
* ppce500 supports only TYPE_ETSEC_COMMON.
* spapr supports only TYPE_SPAPR_PCI_HOST_BRIDGE.
This patch sets user_creatable=true explicitly on those 4 device
classes.
Now, the more complex cases:
pc-q35-*: q35 has no sysbus device whitelist yet (which is a
separate bug). We are in the process of fixing it and building a
sysbus whitelist on q35, but in the meantime we can fix the
"-device help" and "info qdm" bugs mentioned above. Also, despite
not being strictly necessary for fixing the q35 bug, reducing the
list of user_creatable=true devices will help us be more
confident when building the q35 whitelist.
xen: We also have a hack at xen_set_dynamic_sysbus(), that sets
has_dynamic_sysbus=true at runtime when using the Xen
accelerator. This hack is only used to allow xen-backend devices
to be dynamically plugged/unplugged.
This means today we can use -device with the following 22 device
types, that are the ones compiled into the qemu-system-x86_64 and
qemu-system-i386 binaries:

This patch adds user_creatable=true explicitly to those devices,
temporarily, just to keep 100% compatibility with existing
behavior of q35. Subsequent patches will remove
user_creatable=true from the devices that are really not meant to
user-creatable on any machine, and remove the FIXME comment from
the ones that are really supposed to be user-creatable. This is
being done in separate patches because we still don't have an
obvious list of devices that will be whitelisted by q35, and I
would like to get each device reviewed individually.

cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.
When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.
Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

The Xen mapcache is able to create long term mappings, they are called
"locked" mappings. The third parameter of the xen_map_cache call
specifies if a mapping is a "locked" mapping.
>From the QEMU point of view there are two kinds of long term mappings:
[a] device memory mappings, such as option roms and video memory
[b] dma mappings, created by dma_memory_map & friends
After certain operations, ballooning a VM in particular, Xen asks QEMU
kindly to destroy all mappings. However, certainly [a] mappings are
present and cannot be removed. That's not a problem as they are not
affected by balloonning. The *real* problem is that if there are any
mappings of type [b], any outstanding dma operations could fail. This is
a known shortcoming. In other words, when Xen asks QEMU to destroy all
mappings, it is an error if any [b] mappings exist.
However today we have no way of distinguishing [a] from [b]. Because of
that, we cannot even print a decent warning.
This patch introduces a new "dma" bool field to MapCacheRev entires, to
remember if a given mapping is for dma or is a long term device memory
mapping. When xen_invalidate_map_cache is called, we print a warning if
any [b] mappings exist. We ignore [a] mappings.
Mappings created by qemu_map_ram_ptr are assumed to be [a], while
mappings created by address_space_map->qemu_ram_ptr_length are assumed
to be [b].
The goal of the patch is to make debugging and system understanding
easier.

patch changes default value of CPUState::numa_node from 0
to CPU_UNSET_NUMA_NODE_ID. The only place for x86 that
would affected is monitor's 'infor numa' command which
uses that field. However legacy 0 value is still preserved
by pc_cpu_pre_plug() in this patch if user/numa.c hasn't
set it explicitly, so there is no change in behavior.

Originally CPU threads were by default assigned in
round-robin fashion. However it was causing issues in
guest since CPU threads from the same socket/core could
be placed on different NUMA nodes.
Commit fb43b73b (pc: fix default VCPU to NUMA node mapping)
fixed it by grouping threads within a socket on the same node
introducing cpu_index_to_socket_id() callback and commit
20bb648d (spapr: Fix default NUMA node allocation for threads)
reused callback to fix similar issues for SPAPR machine
even though socket doesn't make much sense there.
As result QEMU ended up having 3 default distribution rules
used by 3 targets /virt-arm, spapr, pc/.
In effort of moving NUMA mapping for CPUs into possible_cpus,
generalize default mapping in numa.c by making boards decide
on default mapping and let them explicitly tell generic
numa code to which node a CPU thread belongs to by replacing
cpu_index_to_socket_id() with @cpu_index_to_instance_props()
which provides default node_id assigned by board to specified
cpu_index.

When there are more nodes than available memory to put the minimum
allowed memory by node, all the memory is put on the last node.
This is because we put (ram_size / nb_numa_nodes) &
~((1 << mc->numa_mem_align_shift) - 1); on each node, and in this
case the value is 0. This is particularly true with pseries,
as the memory must be aligned to 256MB.
To avoid this problem, this patch uses an error diffusion algorithm [1]
to distribute equally the memory on nodes.
We introduce numa_auto_assign_ram() function in MachineClass
to keep compatibility between machine type versions.
The legacy function is used with pseries-2.9, pc-q35-2.9 and
pc-i440fx-2.9 (and previous), the new one with all others.

This patch is going to add SLIT table support in QEMU, and provides
additional option `dist` for command `-numa` to allow user set vNUMA
distance by QEMU command.
With this patch, when a user wants to create a guest that contains
several vNUMA nodes and also wants to set distance among those nodes,

Since 2.7 commit (b2a575a Add optionrom compatible with fw_cfg DMA version)
regressed migration during firmware exection time by
abusing fwcfg.dma_enabled property to decide loading
dma version of option rom AND by mistake disabling DMA
for 2.6 and earlier globally instead of only for option rom.
so 2.6 machine type guest is broken when it already runs
firmware in DMA mode but migrated to qemu-2.7(pc-2.6)
at that time;

for 2.10 by re-enabling DMA for 2.[56] machine types
and allowing dma capable option rom only since 2.7.

This updates the FADT generated for x86/64 machine types from Revision 1 to 3. (Based on ACPI standard 2.0 instead of 1.0) The intention is to expose the reset register information to guest operating systems which require it, specifically OS X/macOS. Revision 1 FADTs do not contain the fields relating to the reset register.
The new layout and contents remains backwards-compatible with operating systems which only support ACPI 1.0, as the existing fields are not modified by this change, as the 64-bit and 32-bit variants are allowed to co-exist according to the ACPI 2.0 standard. No regressions became apparent in tests with a range of Windows (XP-10) and Linux versions.
The BIOS tables test suite's FADT checksum test has also been updated to reflect the new FADT layout and content.

However I removed/fixed some content, and added my own codes.
Instead of translate() every page for iotlb invalidations (which is
slower), we walk the pages when needed and notify in a hook function.
This patch enables vfio devices for VT-d emulation.
And, since we already have vhost DMAR support via device-iotlb, a
natural benefit that this patch brings is that vt-d enabled vhost can
live even without ATS capability now. Though more tests are needed.

This is preparation work to finally enabled dynamic switching ON/OFF for
VT-d protection. The old VT-d codes is using static IOMMU address space,
and that won't satisfy vfio-pci device listeners.
Let me explain.
vfio-pci devices depend on the memory region listener and IOMMU replay
mechanism to make sure the device mapping is coherent with the guest
even if there are domain switches. And there are two kinds of domain
switches:
(1) switch from domain A -> B
(2) switch from domain A -> no domain (e.g., turn DMAR off)
Case (1) is handled by the context entry invalidation handling by the
VT-d replay logic. What the replay function should do here is to replay
the existing page mappings in domain B.
However for case (2), we don't want to replay any domain mappings - we
just need the default GPA->HPA mappings (the address_space_memory
mapping). And this patch helps on case (2) to build up the mapping
automatically by leveraging the vfio-pci memory listeners.
Another important thing that this patch does is to seperate
IR (Interrupt Remapping) from DMAR (DMA Remapping). IR region should not
depend on the DMAR region (like before this patch). It should be a
standalone region, and it should be able to be activated without
DMAR (which is a common behavior of Linux kernel - by default it enables
IR while disabled DMAR).

The default replay() don't work for VT-d since vt-d will have a huge
default memory region which covers address range 0-(2^64-1). This will
normally consumes a lot of time (which looks like a dead loop).
The solution is simple - we don't walk over all the regions. Instead, we
jump over the regions when we found that the page directories are empty.
It'll greatly reduce the time to walk the whole region.
To achieve this, we provided a page walk helper to do that, invoking
corresponding hook function when we found an page we are interested in.
vtd_page_walk_level() is the core logic for the page walking. It's
interface is designed to suite further use case, e.g., to invalidate a
range of addresses.
