It's OK and expected for visitors to return errors when presented with
the fuzz test's random data. Since the fuzzer doesn't care about
errors, we pass in NULL rather than an Error**. This fixes a bug in
the fuzzer where it was passing the same Error** into each visitor,
with the effect that once one visitor returned an error, each later
visitor would notice that it had been passed in an Error** representing
an already set error, and do nothing.
For the case of visit_type_str() we also need to handle the case where
an error means that the visitor doesn't set our char*. We initialize
the pointer to NULL so we can safely g_free() it regardless of whether
the visitor allocated a string for us or not.
This fixes a problem where this test failed the MacOSX malloc()
consistency checks and might segfault on other platforms [due
to calling free() on an uninitialized pointer variable when
visit_type_str() failed.].

There are lots of duplicate parsing code using strto*() in QEMU, and
most of that code is broken in one way or another. Even the visitors
code have duplicate integer parsing code[1]. This introduces functions
to help parsing unsigned int values: parse_uint() and parse_uint_full().
Parsing functions for signed ints and floats will be submitted later.
parse_uint_full() has all the checks made by opts_type_uint64() at
opts-visitor.c:
- Check for NULL (returns -EINVAL)
- Check for negative numbers (returns -EINVAL)
- Check for empty string (returns -EINVAL)
- Check for overflow or other errno values set by strtoll() (returns
-errno)
- Check for end of string (reject invalid characters after number)
(returns -EINVAL)
parse_uint() does everything above except checking for the end of the
string, so callers can continue parsing the remainder of string after
the number.
Unit tests included.
[1] string-input-visitor.c:parse_int() could use the same parsing code

The problem happens because:
* tmp105-test exits before QEMU exits, because waitpid() at

* waitpid() fails because there's another process already
waiting for the QEMU process;
* The process that is already waiting for QEMU is the child created by
qtest_init() to run system();
* qtest_quit() is incorrectly waiting for the QEMU PID directly instead

This fixes the problem by sending SIGTERM to QEMU, but waiting for the

When mirroring runs, the backing files for the target may not yet be
ready. However, this means that a copy-on-write operation on the target
would fill the missing sectors with zeros. Copy-on-write only happens
if the granularity of the dirty bitmap is smaller than the cluster size
(and only for clusters that are allocated in the source after the job
has started copying). So far, the granularity was fixed to 1MB; to avoid
the problem we detected the situation and required the backing files to
be available in that case only.
However, we want to lower the granularity for efficiency, so we need
a better solution. The solution is to always copy a whole cluster the
first time it is touched. The code keeps a bitmap of clusters that
have already been allocated by the mirroring job, and only does "manual"
copy-on-write if the chunk being copied is zero in the bitmap.

HBitmaps provides an array of bits. The bits are stored as usual in an
array of unsigned longs, but HBitmap is also optimized to provide fast
iteration over set bits; going from one bit to the next is O(logB n)
worst case, with B = sizeof(long) * CHAR_BIT: the result is low enough
that the number of levels is in fact fixed.
In order to do this, it stacks multiple bitmaps with progressively coarser
granularity; in all levels except the last, bit N is set iff the N-th
unsigned long is nonzero in the immediately next level. When iteration
completes on the last level it can examine the 2nd-last level to quickly
skip entire words, and even do so recursively to skip blocks of 64 words or
powers thereof (32 on 32-bit machines).
Given an index in the bitmap, it can be split in group of bits like
this (for the 64-bit case):
bits 0-57 => word in the last bitmap | bits 58-63 => bit in the word
bits 0-51 => word in the 2nd-last bitmap | bits 52-57 => bit in the word
bits 0-45 => word in the 3rd-last bitmap | bits 46-51 => bit in the word
So it is easy to move up simply by shifting the index right by
log2(BITS_PER_LONG) bits. To move down, you shift the index left
similarly, and add the word index within the group. Iteration uses
ffs (find first set bit) to find the next word to examine; this
operation can be done in constant time in most current architectures.
Setting or clearing a range of m bits on all levels, the work to perform
is O(m + m/W + m/W^2 + ...), which is O(m) like on a regular bitmap.
When iterating on a bitmap, each bit (on any level) is only visited
once. Hence, The total cost of visiting a bitmap with m bits in it is
the number of bits that are set in all bitmaps. Unless the bitmap is
extremely sparse, this is also O(m + m/W + m/W^2 + ...), so the amortized
cost of advancing from one bit to the next is usually constant.

aio_poll() must return true if any work is still pending, even if it
didn't make progress, so that bdrv_drain_all() doesn't stop waiting too
early. The possibility of stopping early occasionally lead to a failed
assertion in bdrv_drain_all(), when some in-flight request was missed
and the function didn't really drain all requests.
In order to make that change, the return value as specified in the
function comment must change for blocking = false; fortunately, the
return value of blocking = false callers is only used in test cases, so
this change shouldn't cause any trouble.

This bug occurs when the SET flag of Register B is enabled. When an RTC
data register (i.e. any of the ten time/calender CMOS bytes) is set, the
data is (as expected) correctly stored in the cmos_data array. However,
since the SET flag is enabled, the function rtc_set_time is not invoked.
As a result, the field base_rtc in RTCState remains uninitialized. This
causes a problem on subsequent writes which can end up overwriting data.
To see this, consider writing data to Register A after having written
data to any of the RTC data registers; the following figure illustrates
the call stack for the Register A write operation:
+- cmos_io_port_write
+-- check_update_timer
+---- get_next_alarm
+------ rtc_update_time
In rtc_update_time, get_guest_rtc calculates the wrong time and
overwrites the previously written RTC data register values.

Implement the century byte in the RTC emulation, and test that it works.
This leads to some annoying compatibility code because we need to treat
a value of 2000 for the base_year property as "use the century byte
properly" (which would be a value of 0).
The century byte will now be always-zero, rather than always-20,
for the MIPS Magnum machine whose base_year is 1980. Commit 42fc73a
(Support epoch of 1980 in RTC emulation for MIPS Magnum, 2009-01-24)
correctly said:
With an epoch of 1980 and a year of 2009, one could argue that [the
century byte] should hold either 0, 1, 19 or 20. NT 3.50 on MIPS
does not read the century byte.

Lazy refcounts is a performance optimization for qcow2 that postpones
refcount metadata updates and instead marks the image dirty. In the
case of crash or power failure the image will be left in a dirty state
and repaired next time it is opened.
Reducing metadata I/O is important for cache=writethrough and
cache=directsync because these modes guarantee that data is on disk
after each write (hence we cannot take advantage of caching updates in
RAM). Refcount metadata is not needed for guest->file block address
translation and therefore does not need to be on-disk at the time of
write completion - this is the motivation behind the lazy refcount
optimization.
The lazy refcount optimization must be enabled at image creation time:
qemu-img create -f qcow2 -o compat=1.1,lazy_refcounts=on a.qcow2 10G
qemu-system-x86_64 -drive if=virtio,file=a.qcow2,cache=writethrough

Currently string-output-visitor formats floats as %g, which is nice in
that trailing 0's are automatically truncated, but otherwise this causes
some issues:
- it uses 6 significant figures instead of 6 decimal places, which
means something like 155777.5 (which even has an exact floating point
representation) will be rounded to 155778 when converted to a string.
- output will be presented in scientific notation when the normalized
form requires a 10^x multiplier. Not a huge deal, but arguably less
readable for command-line arguments.
- due to using scientific notation for numbers requiring more than 6
significant figures, instead of hard-defined decimal places, it
fails a lot of the test-visitor-serialization unit tests for floats.
Instead, let's just use %f, which is what the QJSON and the QMP visitors

Currently we test our visitors individually, and seperately for input
vs. output. This is useful for validating internal representations
against the native C types and vice-versa, and other visitor-specific
testing, but it doesn't cover the potential use-case of using visitor
pairs for serialization/deserialization very well, and makes it
hard to easily extend the coverage for different C types / boundary
conditions.
To cover that we add a set of unit tests that takes a number of native C
values, passes them into an output visitor, extracts the values with an
input visitor, then compares the result to the original.
Plugging in new visitors to the test harness only requires a user to

stops at the actual end of iovec. It is also
suggested to use convinient `-1' value as `bytes'
to mean just this -- "up to the end".
There's one very minor semantic change here: new
requiriment is that `offset' points to inside of
iovec. This is checked just at the end of functions
(assert()), it does not actually need to be enforced,
but using any of these functions with offset pointing
past the end of iovec is wrong anyway.
Note: the new code in iov.c uses arithmetic with
void pointers. I thought this is not supported
everywhere and is a GCC extension (indeed, the C
standard does not define void arithmetic). However,
the original code already use void arith in
iov_from_buf() function:
(memcpy(..., buf + buf_off,...)
which apparently works well so far (it is this
way in qemu 1.0). So I left it this way and used
it in other places.
While at it, add a unit-test file test-iov.c,
to check various corner cases with iov_from_buf(),
iov_to_buf() and iov_memset().

As default a guest has always one floppy drive so 0x10 byte in CMOS
has to have 0x40 value. Higher 4 bits means that the first floppy drive
is 1.44 Mb 3"5 drive and lower 4 bits means the second drive is not present.
After the guest starts DSKCHG bit in DIR register should be set. If there
is no media in drive, this bit should be set all the time.
Because we start the guest without media in drive, we have to swap
'eject' and 'change' in 'test_media_change'.

The 035 parallel aio write test relies on knowledge of qcow2 metadata
layout to stress parallel L2 table accesses. This only works for qcow2
unless we add additional calculations for qed or other formats.
Mark this test as qcow2-only.
Note that the test is strictly speaking non-deterministic although the
output produced is reliable with qcow2. This is because the aio_write
command returns before the aio write request has completed. Completions
can occur at any time afterwards and cause a message to be printed.
Therefore the exact output of this test is not deterministic but we seem
to get away with it for qcow2 (maybe due to coroutine and main loop
scheduling).

The block streaming and job commands used '_' instead of '-' for reasons
of compatibility with libvirt, which already included support for the
'_' naming. However, the semantics of block_job_cancel have changed and
libvirt now needs to handle the new semantics.
Since the old semantics were never in a QEMU release we can still rename
the commands to use '-' instead of '_'. Libvirt is also happy because
the new name can be used to distinguish QEMU binaries that support the
latest block-job-cancel semantics from those that include a downstream
block_job_cancel command.
Therefore, let's apply the QAPI/QMP naming rules to the block streaming
and job commands. QEMU 1.1 will be the first release with these
commands so no upstream users can break.
Note that HMP commands are left with '_' because that is the convention
there.

The io_pattern style functions have the following loop:
for i in `seq 1 $count`; do
echo ... $(( start + i * step )) ...
done
Offsets are 1-based so start=1024, step=512, count=4 yields:
1536, 2048, 2560, 3072
Normally we expect:
1024, 1536, 2048, 2560
Most tests ignore this detail, which means that they perform I/O to a
slightly different range than expected by the test author.
Later on things got less innocent and tests started trying to compensate
for the 1-based indexing. This included negative start values in test
024 and my own attempt with count-1 in test 028!
The end result is that tests that use io_pattern are hard to reason
about and don't work the way you'd expect. It's time to clean this mess
up.
This patch switches io_pattern to 0-based offsets. This requires
adjusting the golden outputs since I/O ranges are now shifted and output
differs.
Verifying these output diffs is easy, however. Each diff hunk moves one
I/O from beyond the end of the pattern range to the beginning.

a portion of a previously unallocated data cluster. After the image

The tests use bash language features like 'let', which aren't supported
by /bin/sh on systems that use a conservative shell like dash. This
patch changes the interpreter to /bin/bash.

This patch adds test case 023 which tests some more cluster sizes. For
anythinger larger than 4k clusters we can't use requests that are l2_size or
more (128k for 1k clusters, 2 MB for 4k clusters, 512 MB for 64k clusters).
Therefore one of the common.pattern cases is changed and needs new expected
results for some old test cases.

Change the io_test and io_test2 functions to take the cluster size of the image
and the number of test requests to issue. Tests are changed to specify a
cluster size (usually 4k), but expected test results stay the same for now
(apart from qemu-img printing the cluster size now).

The write pattern value 0axb is invalid and evaluates to 0,
so the read check (which uses a correct value of 0xab) will fail.
This failure will only be detected with a separate patch for
qemu-io. Without it, qemu-io cannot interpret hex values
and always uses a pattern value of 0.

QEMU timer is used to post CCOMPARE interrupt when the core is halted.
If that CCOMPARE interrupt is masked off then the timer must be rearmed
in the callback, otherwise it will be rearmed next time the core goes to
halt by the waiti instruction.
Add test case into timer testsuite.
