fd9df33f08 i2c:smbus_eeprom: Add vmstate handling to the smbus eeprom
Transfer the state of the EEPROM on a migration. This way the
data remains consistent on migration.

This required moving the actual data to a separate array and
using the data provided in the init function as a separate
initialization array, since a pointer property has to be a
void * and the array needs to be uint8_t[].

52cc6a492b i2c:pm_smbus: Fix pm_smbus handling of I2C block read
The I2C block read function of pm_smbus was completely broken. It
required doing some direct I2C handling because it didn't have a
defined size, the OS code just reads bytes until it marks the
transaction finished.

This also required adjusting how the AMIBIOS workaround code worked,
the I2C block mode was setting STS_HOST_BUSY during a transaction,
so that bit could no longer be used to inform the host status read
code to start the transaction. Create a explicit bool for that
operation.

Also, don't read the next byte from the device in byte-by-byte
mode unless the OS is actually clearing the byte done bit. Just
assuming that's what the OS is doing is a bad idea.

There were two different write functions and the SMBus code kept

839a2b28d0 hw/i2c-ddc: Do not fail writes
The tx function of the DDC I2C slave emulation was returning 1
on all writes resulting in NACK in the I2C bus. Changing it to
0 makes the DDC I2C work fine with bit-banged I2C such as the
versatile I2C.

I guess it was not affecting whatever I2C controller this was
used with until now, but with the Versatile I2C it surely
does not work.

2562755ee7 maint: Fix macros with broken 'do/while(0); ' usage
The point of writing a macro embedded in a 'do { ... } while (0)'
loop (particularly if the macro has multiple statements or would
otherwise end with an 'if' statement) is so that the macro can be
used as a drop-in statement with the caller supplying the
trailing ';'. Although our coding style frowns on brace-less 'if':
  if (cond)
    statement;
  else
    something else;
that is the classic case where failure to use do/while(0) wrapping
would cause the 'else' to pair with any embedded 'if' in the macro
rather than the intended outer 'if'. But conversely, if the macro
includes an embedded ';', then the same brace-less coding style
would now have two statements, making the 'else' a syntax error
rather than pairing with the outer 'if'. Thus, even though our
coding style with required braces is not impacted, ending a macro
with ';' makes our code harder to port to projects that use
brace-less styles.

The change should have no semantic impact. I was not able to
fully compile-test all of the changes (as some of them are
examples of the ugly bit-rotting debug print statements that are
completely elided by default, and I didn't want to recompile
with the necessary -D witnesses - cleaning those up is left as a
bite-sized task for another day); I did, however, audit that for
all files touched, all callers of the changed macros DID supply
a trailing ';' at the callsite, and did not appear to be used
as part of a brace-less conditional.

Found mechanically via: $ git grep -B1 'while (0);' | grep -A1 \\\\

880b1ffe6e smbus: do not immediately complete commands
PIIX4 errata says that "immediate polling of the Host Status Register BUSY
bit may indicate that the SMBus is NOT busy."
Due to this, some code does the following steps:
(a) set parameters
(b) start command
(c) check for smbus busy bit set (to know that command started)
(d) check for smbus busy bit not set (to know that command finished)

Let (c) happen, by immediately setting the busy bit, and really executing
the command when status register has been read once.

This fixes a problem with AMIBIOS, which can now properly initialize the PIIX4.

fd3b02c889 pci: Add INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE to Conventional PCI devices
Add INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE to all direct subtypes of
TYPE_PCI_DEVICE, except:

1) The ones that already have INTERFACE_PCIE_DEVICE set:

* base-xhci
* e1000e
* nvme
* pvscsi
* vfio-pci
* virtio-pci
* vmxnet3

2) base-pci-bridge

Not all PCI bridges are Conventional PCI devices, so
INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE is added only to the subtypes
that are actually Conventional PCI:

* dec-21154-p2p-bridge
* i82801b11-bridge
* pbm-bridge
* pci-bridge

The direct subtypes of base-pci-bridge not touched by this patch
are:

* xilinx-pcie-root: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-pci-bridge: Already marked as PCIe-only.
* pcie-port: all non-abstract subtypes of pcie-port are already
  marked as PCIe-only devices.

3) megasas-base

Not all megasas devices are Conventional PCI devices, so the
interface names are added to the subclasses registered by
megasas_register_types(), according to information in the
megasas_devices[] array.

"megasas-gen2" already implements INTERFACE_PCIE_DEVICE, so add
INTERFACE_CONVENTIONAL_PCI_DEVICE only to "megasas".

e90f2a8c3e qdev: Replace cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet with !user_creatable
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.

When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.

Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

Except for code comments, changes were generated using the
following Coccinelle patch:

643bb6fca7 arm: Uniquely name imx25 I2C buses.
The imx25 chip provides 3 i2c buses, but they have all been named
"i2c", which makes it difficult to predict which bus a device will
be connected to when specified on the command line.

This patch addresses the issue by naming the buses uniquely:
  i2c-bus.0 i2c-bus.1 i2c-bus.2

d307c28ca9 i2c: Allow I2C devices to NAK start events
Add a return value to the event handler. Some I2C devices will
NAK if they have no data, so allow them to do this. This required
the following changes:

Go through all the event handlers and change them to return int
and return 0.

Modify i2c_start_transfer to terminate the transaction on a NAK.

Modify smbus handing to not assert if a NAK occurs on a second
operation, and terminate the transaction and return -1 instead.

9706e0162d hw/i2c/bitbang_i2c: Handle NACKs from devices
If the guest attempts to talk to a nonexistent device over i2c,
the i2c_start_transfer() function will return non-zero, indicating
that the bus is signalling a NACK. Similarly, if the i2c_send()
function returns nonzero then the target device returned a NACK.
Handle this possibility in the bitbang_i2c code, by returning
the state machine to the STOPPED state and returning the NACK
bit to the guest.

This bit of missing functionality was spotted by Coverity
(it noticed that we weren't checking the return value from
i2c_start_transfer()).

cc083d8a25 i2c: Add asserts for second smbus i2c_start_transfer()
Some SMBus operations restart the transfer to convert from

0fa758c3a0 i2c: Fix SMBus read transactions to avoid double events
Change 2293c27fad (i2c: implement broadcast write) added broadcast
capability to the I2C bus, but it broke SMBus read transactions.
An SMBus read transaction does two i2c_start_transaction() calls
without an intervening i2c_end_transfer() call. This will
result in i2c_start_transfer() adding the same device to the
current_devs list twice, and then the ->event() for the same
device gets called twice in the second call to i2c_start_transfer(),
resulting in the smbus code getting confused.

Note that this happens even with pure I2C devices when simulating
SMBus over I2C.

This fix only scans the bus if the current set of devices is empty.
This means that the current set of devices stays fixed until
i2c_end_transfer() is called, which is really what you want.

This also deletes the empty check from the top of i2c_end_transfer().
It's unnecessary, and it prevents the broadcast variable from being
set to false at the end of the transaction if no devices were on
the bus.

71ae65e552 i2c: fix migration regression introduced by broadcast support
QEMU fails migration with following error:

qemu-system-x86_64: Missing section footer for i2c_bus

when migrating from:
  qemu-system-x86_64-v2.6.0 -m 256M rhel72.img -M pc-i440fx-2.6
to
  qemu-system-x86_64-v2.7.0-rc0 -m 256M rhel72.img -M pc-i440fx-2.6

Regression is added by commit 2293c27f (i2c: implement broadcast write)

Fix it by dropping 'broadcast' VMState introduced by 2293c27f and
reuse broadcast 0x00 address as broadcast flag in bus->saved_address.
Then if there were ongoing broadcast at migration time, set
bus->saved_address to it and at i2c_slave_post_load() time check
for it instead of transfering and using 'broadcast' VMState.

As result of reusing existing saved_address VMState, no compat
glue will be needed to keep forward/backward compatiblity. which
makes fix much less intrusive.

On the TODO list, we also have :

 - improve and harden the state machine.
 - bus recovery support (used by the Linux driver).

   it is mostly used for debug. The bus busy bit is deducted from the

The errors are all device misconfiguration. All callers use

1b111dc121 hw: cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet due to pointer props
Pointer properties can be set only by code, not by device_add. A
device with a pointer property can work with device_add only when the
property may remain null.

This is the case for property "interrupt_vector" of device
"etraxfs,pic".  Add a comment there.

Set cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet for the other devices with
pointer properties, with a comment explaining why.

Juha Riihimäki and Peter Maydell deserve my thanks for making "pointer
property must not remain null" blatantly obvious in the OMAP devices.

Only device "smbus-eeprom" is actually changed. The others are all
sysbus devices, which get cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet set
in their abstract base's class init function. Setting it again in
their class init function is technically redundant, but serves as
insurance for when sysbus devices become available with device_add,
and as documentation.

bfa6dfd070 ich9: Document why cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet
An ICH9 southbridge contains several PCI devices, some of them with
multiple functions. We model each function as a separate qdev. Two
of them need some special wiring set up in pc_q35_init() to work: the
LPC controller at 00:1f.0, and the SMBus controller at 00:1f.3.

efec3dd631 qdev: Replace no_user by cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet
In an ideal world, machines can be built by wiring devices together
with configuration, not code. Unfortunately, that's not the world we
live in right now. We still have quite a few devices that need to be
wired up by code. If you try to device_add such a device, it'll fail
in sometimes mysterious ways. If you're lucky, you get an
unmysterious immediate crash.

To protect users from such badness, DeviceClass member no_user used to
make device models unavailable with -device / device_add, but that
regressed in commit 18b6dad. The device model is still omitted from
help, but is available anyway.

Attempts to fix the regression have been rejected with the argument
that the purpose of no_user isn't clear, and it's prone to misuse.

This commit clarifies no_user's purpose. Anthony suggested to rename
it cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet_due_to_internal_bugs, which
I shorten somewhat to keep checkpatch happy. While there, make it
bool.

Every use of cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet gets a FIXME
comment asking for rationale. The next few commits will clean them
all up, either by providing a rationale, or by getting rid of the use.

With that done, the regression fix is hopefully acceptable.

6783ecf144 hw: Avoid use of QOM type name macros in VMStateDescriptions
The name field in a VMStateDescription is part of the migration state
versioning, so changing it will break migration. It's therefore a
bad idea to use a QOM typename macro to initialize it, because in
general we're free to rename QOM types as part of code refactoring
and cleanup. For the handful of devices that were doing this by
mistake, replace the QOM typenames with the corresponding literal
strings.
