The register definitions in tests/qtest/libqos/e1000e.c had names
different from hw/net/e1000_regs.h, which made it hard to understand
what test codes corresponds to the implementation. Use
hw/net/e1000_regs.h from tests/qtest/libqos/e1000e.c to remove
these duplications.
E1000E_CTRL_EXT_TXLSFLOW is removed from E1000E_CTRL_EXT settings
because hw/net/e1000_regs.h does not have the definition and it is for
TCP segmentation offload, which does not matter for the implemented
tests.

When virtio-net is used with the socket netdev backend, the backend
can be busy and not able to collect new packets.
In this case, net_socket_receive() returns 0 and registers a poll function
to detect when the socket is ready again.
In virtio_net_tx_bh(), virtio_net_flush_tx() forwards the 0, the virtio
notifications are disabled and the function is not re-scheduled, waiting
for the backend to be ready.
When the socket netdev backend is again able to send packets, the poll
function re-starts to flush remaining packets. This is done by
calling virtio_net_tx_complete(). It re-enables notifications and calls
again virtio_net_flush_tx().
But it seems if virtio_net_flush_tx() reaches the tx_burst value all
the queue is not flushed and no new notification is sent to re-schedule
virtio_net_tx_bh(). Nothing re-start to flush the queue and remaining
packets are stuck in the queue.
To fix that, detect in virtio_net_tx_complete() if virtio_net_flush_tx()
has been stopped by tx_burst and if yes re-schedule the bottom half
function virtio_net_tx_bh() to flush the remaining packets.
This is what is done in virtio_net_tx_bh() when the virtio_net_flush_tx()
is synchronous, and completly by-passed when the operation needs to be
asynchronous.

As of the kernel commit linked below, Linux ingests an RNG seed
passed as part of the environment block by the bootloader or firmware.
This mechanism works across all different environment block types,
generically, which pass some block via the second firmware argument. On
malta, this has been tested to work when passed as an argument from
U-Boot's linux_env_set.
As is the case on most other architectures (such as boston), when
booting with `-kernel`, QEMU, acting as the bootloader, should pass the
RNG seed, so that the machine has good entropy for Linux to consume. So
this commit implements that quite simply by using the guest random API,
which is what is used on nearly all other archs too. It also
reinitializes the seed on reboot, so that it is always fresh.

The semantic difference between the deprecated device_legacy_reset()
function and the newer device_cold_reset() function is that the new
function resets both the device itself and any qbuses it owns,
whereas the legacy function resets just the device itself and nothing
else. In hyperv_synic_reset() we reset a SynICState, which has no
qbuses, so for this purpose the two functions behave identically and
we can stop using the deprecated one.

The code for handling the reset level count in the Resettable code
has two issues:
The reset count is only decremented for the 1->0 case. This means
that if there's ever a nested reset that takes the count to 2 then it
will never again be decremented. Eventually the count will exceed
the '50' limit in resettable_phase_enter() and QEMU will trip over
the assertion failure. The repro case in issue 1266 is an example of
this that happens now the SCSI subsystem uses three-phase reset.
Secondly, the count is decremented only after the exit phase handler
is called. Moving the reset count decrement from "just after" to
"just before" calling the exit phase handler allows
resettable_is_in_reset() to return false during the handler
execution.
This simplifies reset handling in resettable devices. Typically, a
function that updates the device state will just need to read the
current reset state and not anymore treat the "in a reset-exit
transition" as a special case.
Note that the semantics change to the *_is_in_reset() functions
will have no effect on the current codebase, because only two
devices (hw/char/cadence_uart.c and hw/misc/zynq_sclr.c) currently
call those functions, and in neither case do they do it from the
device's exit phase methed.

When a RAMBlockNotifier is added, ->ram_block_added() is called with all
existing RAMBlocks. There is no equivalent ->ram_block_removed() call
when a RAMBlockNotifier is removed.
The util/vfio-helpers.c code (the sole user of RAMBlockNotifier) is fine
with this asymmetry because it does not rely on RAMBlockNotifier for
cleanup. It walks its internal list of DMA mappings and unmaps them by
itself.
Future users of RAMBlockNotifier may not have an internal data structure
that records added RAMBlocks so they will need ->ram_block_removed()
callbacks.
This patch makes ram_block_notifier_remove() symmetric with respect to
callbacks. Now util/vfio-helpers.c needs to unmap remaining DMA mappings
after ram_block_notifier_remove() has been called. This is necessary
since users like block/nvme.c may create additional DMA mappings that do
not originate from the RAMBlockNotifier.

In the ACPI specification [1], the 'unarmed' bit is set when a device
cannot accept a persistent write. This means that when a memdev is
read-only, the 'unarmed' flag must be turned on. The logic is correct,
just changing the error message.

The previous implementation would iterate over the fid table for
lookup operations, resulting in an operation with O(n) complexity on
the number of open files and poor cache locality -- for every open,
stat, read, write, etc operation.
This change uses a hashtable for this instead, significantly improving
the performance of the 9p filesystem. The runtime of NixOS's simple
installer test, which copies ~122k files totalling ~1.8GiB from 9p,
decreased by a factor of about 10.

provides a mean to describe the features of a serial flash device
using a set of internal parameter tables.
This is the initial framework for the RDSFDP command giving access to
a private SFDP area under the flash. This area now needs to be
populated with the flash device characteristics, using a new

Investigating why some BMC models are so slow compared to a plain ARM
virt machines I did some profiling of:
./qemu-system-arm -M romulus-bmc -nic user \
-drive
file=obmc-phosphor-image-romulus.static.mtd,format=raw,if=mtd \
-nographic -serial mon:stdio
And saw that object_class_dynamic_cast_assert was dominating the
profile times. We have a number of cases in this model of the SSI bus.
As the class is static once the object is created we just cache it and
use it instead of the dynamic case macros.

I think when Klaus ported his slave mode changes from the original patch
series to the rewritten I2C module, he changed the behavior of the first
byte that is received by the slave device.
What's supposed to happen is that the AspeedI2CBus's slave device's
i2c_event callback should run, and if the event is "send_async", then it
should populate the byte buffer with the 8-bit I2C address that is being
sent to. Since we only support "send_async", the lowest bit should
always be 0 (indicating that the master is requesting to send data).
This is the code Klaus had previously, for reference. [1]
switch (event) {
case I2C_START_SEND:
bus->buf = bus->dev_addr << 1;
bus->buf &= I2CD_BYTE_BUF_RX_MASK;
bus->buf <<= I2CD_BYTE_BUF_RX_SHIFT;
bus->intr_status |= (I2CD_INTR_SLAVE_ADDR_RX_MATCH | I2CD_INTR_RX_DONE);
aspeed_i2c_set_state(bus, I2CD_STXD);
break;

Rather than poking directly into RAM, add the bootinfo block as a proper
ROM, so that it's restored when rebooting the system. This way, if the
guest corrupts any of the bootinfo items, but then tries to reboot,
it'll still be restored back to normal as expected.
Then, since the RNG seed needs to be fresh on each boot, regenerate the
RNG seed in the ROM when reseting the CPU.

Following a change on the kernel side (see link), pass BI_RNG_SEED
instead of BI_VIRT_RNG_SEED. This should have no impact on
compatibility, as there will simply be no effect if it's an old kernel,
which is how things have always been. We then use this as an opportunity
to add this to q800, since now we can, which is a nice improvement.

Currently the microdrive code uses device_legacy_reset() to reset
itself, and has its reset method call reset on the IDE bus as the
last thing it does. Switch to using device_cold_reset().
The only concrete microdrive device is the TYPE_DSCM1XXXX; it is not
command-line pluggable, so it is used only by the old pxa2xx Arm
boards 'akita', 'borzoi', 'spitz', 'terrier' and 'tosa'.
You might think that this would result in the IDE bus being
reset automatically, but it does not, because the IDEBus type
does not set the BusClass::reset method. Instead the controller
must explicitly call ide_bus_reset(). We therefore leave that
call in md_reset().
Note also that because the PCMCIA card device is a direct subclass of
TYPE_DEVICE and we don't model the PCMCIA controller-to-card
interface as a qbus, PCMCIA cards are not on any qbus and so they
don't get reset when the system is reset. The reset only happens via
the dscm1xxxx_attach() and dscm1xxxx_detach() functions during
machine creation.
Because our aim here is merely to try to get rid of calls to the
device_legacy_reset() function, we leave these other dubious
reset-related issues alone. (They all stem from this code being
absolutely ancient.)

Resetting a guest that has Hyper-V VMBus support enabled triggers a QEMU
assertion failure:
hw/hyperv/hyperv.c:131: synic_reset: Assertion `QLIST_EMPTY(&synic->sint_routes)' failed.
This happens both on normal guest reboot or when using "system_reset" HMP
command.
The failing assertion was introduced by commit 64ddecc88b ("hyperv: SControl is optional to enable SynIc")
to catch dangling SINT routes on SynIC reset.
The root cause of this problem is that the SynIC itself is reset before
devices using SINT routes have chance to clean up these routes.
Since there seems to be no existing mechanism to force reset callbacks (or
methods) to be executed in specific order let's use a similar method that
is already used to reset another interrupt controller (APIC) after devices
have been reset - by invoking the SynIC reset from the machine reset
handler via a new x86_cpu_after_reset() function co-located with
the existing x86_cpu_reset() in target/i386/cpu.c.
Opportunistically move the APIC reset handler there, too.

Currently the vwm_pvscsi controller resets individual SCSI devices
with the device_legacy_reset() function. The only difference between
this and device_cold_reset() is that device_legacy_reset() resets the
device but not any child qbuses it might have.
In this case, no SCSI device has a child qbus, so the functions have
the same behaviour. Switch to device_cold_reset() to move away from
using the deprecated function, and bring this SCSI controller in to
line with what all the others do.

In the SCSI subsystem we currently use the legacy functions
qdev_reset_all() and qbus_reset_all(). These perform a recursive
reset, starting from either a qbus or a qdev. However they do not
permit any of the devices in the tree to use three-phase reset,
because device reset goes through the device_legacy_reset() function
that only calls the single DeviceClass::reset method.
Switch to using the device_cold_reset() and bus_cold_reset()
functions. These also perform a recursive reset, where first the
children are reset and then finally the parent, but they use the new
(...in 2020...) Resettable mechanism, which supports both the old
style single-reset method and also the new 3-phase reset handling.
Since no devices attached to SCSI buses currently try to use 3-phase
reset, this should be a no-behaviour-change commit which just reduces
the use of a deprecated API.

The pSeries machine never bothered with the common machine->fdt
attribute. We do all the FDT related work using spapr->fdt_blob.
We're going to introduce a QMP/HMP command to dump the FDT, which will
rely on setting machine->fdt properly to work across all machine
archs/types.
Let's set machine->fdt in two places where we manipulate the FDT:
spapr_machine_reset() and CAS. There are other places where the FDT is
manipulated in the pSeries machines, most notably the hotplug/unplug
path. For now we'll acknowledge that we won't have the most accurate
representation of the FDT, depending on the current machine state, when
using this QMP/HMP fdt command. Making the internal FDT representation
always match the actual FDT representation that the guest is using is a
problem for another day.
spapr->fdt_blob is left untouched for now. To replace it with
machine->fdt, since we're migrating spapr->fdt_blob, we would need to
migrate machine->fdt as well. This is something that we would like to to
do keep our code simpler but it's also a work we'll leave for later.

modelling the DDR SDRAM controller found in the 440EP (used on the

likely does not cause problems for guests we run as the new features

may have to be disabled or the model split between 440 and older.
Newer SoCs (regardless of their PPC core, e.g. 405EX) may have an
updated DDR2 SDRAM controller implemented by the ppc440_sdram model
(only partially, enough for the 460EX on the sam460ex) that is not yet

To boot S-mode firmware payload like EDK2 from persistent
flash storage, qemu needs to pass the flash address as the
next_addr in fw_dynamic_info to the opensbi.
When both -kernel and -pflash options are provided in command line,
the kernel (and initrd if -initrd) will be copied to fw_cfg table.
The S-mode FW will load the kernel/initrd from fw_cfg table.
If only pflash is given but not -kernel, then it is the job of
of the S-mode firmware to locate and load the kernel.
In either case, update the kernel_entry with the flash address

Section 5.6.6.3 of VirtIO specification states, "Events will also
be reported via sense codes..." However, no sense data is sent when
VIRTIO_SCSI_EVT_RESET_RESCAN or VIRTIO_SCSI_EVT_RESET_REMOVED events
are reported (when disk hotplug/hotunplug events occur). SCSI layer
on Solaris depends on this sense data, and hence does not handle disk
hotplug/hotunplug events.
When the disk inventory changes, use the bus unit attention mechanism
to return a CHECK_CONDITION status with sense data of 0x06/0x3F/0x0E
(sense code REPORTED_LUNS_CHANGED). The first device on the bus to
execute a command successfully will report and consume the unit
attention status.

[Jonah: @virtio_list duplicates information that already exists in
the QOM composition tree. However, extracting necessary information
from this tree seems to be a bit convoluted.
Instead, we still create our own list of realized virtio devices
but use @qmp_qom_get with the device's canonical QOM path to confirm
that the device exists and is realized. If the device exists but
is actually not realized, then we remove it from our list (for
synchronicity to the QOM composition tree).
Also, the QMP command @x-query-virtio is redundant as @qom-list
and @qom-get are sufficient to search '/machine/' for realized
virtio devices. However, @x-query-virtio is much more convenient
in listing realized virtio devices.]

It's true that when vcpus<=255 we don't require the length of 32bit APIC
IDs. However here since we already have EIM=ON it means the hypervisor
will declare the VM as x2apic supported (e.g. VT-d ECAP register will have
EIM bit 4 set), so the guest should assume the APIC IDs are 32bits width
even if vcpus<=255. In short, commit 77250171bd breaks any simple cmdline
that wants to boot a VM with >=9 but <=255 vcpus with:
-device intel-iommu,intremap=on
For anyone who does not want to enable x2apic, we can use eim=off in the
intel-iommu parameters to skip enabling KVM x2apic.
This partly reverts commit 77250171bd, while
keeping the valid bit on checking split irqchip, but revert the other change.
One thing to mention is that this patch may break migration compatibility
of such VM, however that's probably the best thing we can do, because the
old behavior was simply wrong and not working for >8 vcpus. For <=8 vcpus,
there could be a light guest ABI change (by enabling KVM x2apic after this
patch), but logically it shouldn't affect the migration from working.
Also, this is not the 1st commit to change x2apic behavior. Igor provided
a full history of how this evolved for the past few years:

Make vhost-user-blk backwards compatible when migrating from older VMs

It's currently impossible to migrate from an older VM with
vhost-user-blk (with disable-legacy=off) because of errors like this:
qemu-system-x86_64: get_pci_config_device: Bad config data: i=0x10 read: 41 device: 1 cmask: ff wmask: 80 w1cmask:0

This is caused by the newer (destination) VM requiring a bigger BAR0
alignment because it has to cover a bigger configuration space, which
isn't actually needed since those additional config fields are not
active (write-zeroes/discard).

This is the first step towards moving all device config size calculation
logic into the virtio core code. In particular, this adds a struct that
contains all the necessary information for common virtio code to be able
to calculate the final config size for a device. This is expected to be
used with the new virtio_get_config_size helper, which calculates the
final length based on the provided host features.
This builds on top of already existing code like VirtIOFeature and
virtio_feature_get_config_size(), but adds additional fields, as well as
sanity checking so that device-specifc code doesn't have to duplicate it.
An example usage would be:
static const VirtIOFeature dev_features[] = {
{.flags = 1ULL << FEATURE_1_BIT,
.end = endof(struct virtio_dev_config, feature_1)},
{.flags = 1ULL << FEATURE_2_BIT,
.end = endof(struct virtio_dev_config, feature_2)},
{}
};
static const VirtIOConfigSizeParams dev_cfg_size_params = {
.min_size = DEV_BASE_CONFIG_SIZE,
.max_size = sizeof(struct virtio_dev_config),
.feature_sizes = dev_features
};
// code inside my_dev_device_realize()
size_t config_size = virtio_get_config_size(&dev_cfg_size_params,
host_features);
virtio_init(vdev, VIRTIO_ID_MYDEV, config_size);
Currently every device is expected to write its own boilerplate from the
example above in device_realize(), however, the next step of this
transition is moving VirtIOConfigSizeParams into VirtioDeviceClass,
so that it can be done automatically by the virtio initialization code.
All of the users of virtio_feature_get_config_size have been converted
to use virtio_get_config_size so it's no longer needed and is removed
with this commit.

g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n). It's also safer,
for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.
This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form
sizeof(T).
Patch created mechanically with:
$ spatch --in-place --sp-file scripts/coccinelle/use-g_new-etc.cocci \

We don't want it to be possible to re-read the RNG seed after ingesting
it, because this ruins forward secrecy. Currently, however, the setup
data section can just be re-read. Since the kernel is always read after
the setup data, use the selection of the kernel as a trigger to
re-initialize the RNG seed, just like we do on reboot, to preserve
forward secrecy.

CHS-based disk utilities and operating systems may adjust the logical
geometry of a hard drive to cope with the expectations or limitations
of software using the ATA INITIALIZE_DEVICE_PARAMETERS command.
Prior to this patch, INITIALIZE_DEVICE_PARAMETERS was a nop that

Prior to this patch, cmd_exec_dev_diagnostic relied upon
ide_set_signature to clear the device register. While the
preservation of the drive bit by ide_set_signature is necessary for
the DEVICE RESET, IDENTIFY DEVICE, and READ SECTOR commands,
ATA/ATAPI-6 specifies that "DEV shall be cleared to zero" for EXECUTE
DEVICE DIAGNOSTIC.
This deviation was uncovered by the ATACT Device Testing Program
written by Hale Landis.

Commit 5f76a7aac1 is looking harmless from
the first glance, but it has changed things a lot. 'libvirt' uses it to
detect that it should follow new initialization way and this changes
things considerably. With this procedure followed, blockdev_init() is
not called anymore and thus block_acct_setup() helper is not called.
This means in particular that defaults for block accounting statistics
are changed and account_invalid/account_failed are actually initialized
as false instead of true originally.
This commit changes things to match original world. There are the following
constraints:
* new default value in block_acct_init() is set to true
* block_acct_setup() inside blockdev_init() is called before
blkconf_apply_backend_options()
* thus newly created option in block device properties has precedence if
specified

The "msi-parent" property can be used on the PCI node when MSIs do not
contain sideband data (device IDs) [1]. In QEMU, MSI transactions
contain the requester ID, so the PCI node should use the "msi-map"
property instead of "msi-parent". In our case the property describes an
identity map between requester ID and sideband data.

As the close-on-exec flags is not set on the file descriptors returned
by socketpair() at default, the fds will survive across exec' function.
In the case that exec' function get invoked, such as the live-update feature
which is been developing, it will cause fd leaks.
To address this problem, we should call qemu_socketpair() to create an pair of
connected sockets with the close-on-exec flag set.

If setup_data is being read into a specific memory location, then
generally the setup_data address parameter is read first, so that the
caller knows where to read it into. In that case, we should return
setup_data containing the absolute addresses that are hard coded and
determined a priori. This is the case when kernels are loaded by BIOS,
for example. In contrast, when setup_data is read as a file, then we
shouldn't modify setup_data, since the absolute address will be wrong by
definition. This is the case when OVMF loads the image.
This allows setup_data to be used like normal, without crashing when EFI
tries to use it.
(As a small development note, strangely, fw_cfg_add_file_callback() was
exported but fw_cfg_add_bytes_callback() wasn't, so this makes that
consistent.)

Commit 584acf34cb ("ati-vga: Fix reverse bit blts") introduced
the local dst_x and dst_y which adjust the (x, y) coordinates
depending on the direction in the SRCCOPY ROP3 operation, but
forgot to address the same issue for the PATCOPY, BLACKNESS and
WHITENESS operations, which also call pixman_fill().
Fix that now by using the adjusted coordinates in the pixman_fill

On the OpenTitan hardware the resetvec is fixed at the start of ROM. In
QEMU we don't run the ROM code and instead just jump to the next stage.
This means we need to be a little more flexible about what the resetvec
is.
This patch allows us to set the resetvec from the command line with
something like this:
-global driver=riscv.lowrisc.ibex.soc,property=resetvec,value=0x20000400
This way as the next stage changes we can update the resetvec.
