36ebc7db79 hw/acpi: Move QMP command to hw/core/
The QERR_ macros are leftovers from the days of "rich" error objects.
We've been trying to reduce their remaining use.

qmp_query_vm_generation_id() in stubs/vmgenid.c is the last user of
QERR_UNSUPPORTED outside qga/.  Unlike the stubs we just dropped, it
is actually reachable, namely when CONFIG_ACPI_VMGENID is off.  It
always fails like

    (qemu) info vm-generation-id
    Error: this feature or command is not currently supported

Turns out the real qmp_query_vm_generation_id() doesn't actually
depend on CONFIG_ACPI_VMGENID, and fails safely when it's off.  Move
it to hw/core/machine-qmp-cmds.c, and drop the stub.  The error
message becomes

    Error: VM Generation ID device not found

Feels like an improvement to me.

3b95a71b22 virtio-mem: Migrate immutable properties early
The bitmap and the size are immutable while migration is active: see
virtio_mem_is_busy(). We can migrate this information early, before
migrating any actual RAM content. Further, all information we need for
sanity checks is immutable as well.

Having this information in place early will, for example, allow for
properly preallocating memory before touching these memory locations
during RAM migration: this way, we can make sure that all memory was
actually preallocated and that any user errors (e.g., insufficient
hugetlb pages) can be handled gracefully.

In contrast, usable_region_size and requested_size can theoretically
still be modified on the source while the VM is running. Keep migrating
these properties the usual, late, way.

Use a new device property to keep behavior of compat machines
unmodified.

The 'hwaddr' type is defined in "exec/hwaddr.h" as:

    hwaddr is the type of a physical address
   (its size can be different from 'target_ulong').

All definitions use the 'HWADDR_' prefix, except TARGET_FMT_plx:

7c10cb38cc accel/tcg: Add debuginfo support
Add libdw-based functions for loading and querying debuginfo. Load
debuginfo from the system and the linux-user loaders.

This is useful for the upcoming perf support, which can then put
human-readable guest symbols instead of raw guest PCs into perfmap and
jitdump files.

aae167211f hw/core/qdev-properties-system: Allow the 'slew' policy only on x86
The 'slew' tick policy is currently enforced to be only available on
x86 via some "#ifdef TARGET_I386" statements in mc146818rtc.c. We
want to get rid of those #ifdefs, so we need a different way of
checking whether the policy is allowed or not. Using the setter
function in hw/core/qdev-properties-system.c seems to be a good
place, so let's add a check here.

bd688fc931 accel: introduce accelerator blocker API
This API allows the accelerators to prevent vcpus from issuing
new ioctls while execting a critical section marked with the
accel_ioctl_inhibit_begin/end functions.

Note that all functions submitting ioctls must mark where the
ioctl is being called with accel_{cpu_}ioctl_begin/end().

This API requires the caller to always hold the BQL.
API documentation is in sysemu/accel-blocker.h

Internally, it uses a QemuLockCnt together with a per-CPU QemuLockCnt
(to minimize cache line bouncing) to keep avoid that new ioctls
run when the critical section starts, and a QemuEvent to wait
that all running ioctls finish.

97f4effeb6 hw/acpi/aml-build: Only generate cluster node in PPTT when specified
Currently we'll always generate a cluster node no matter user has
specified '-smp clusters=X' or not. Cluster is an optional level
and will participant the building of Linux scheduling domains and
only appears on a few platforms. It's unncessary to always build
it when it cannot reflect the real topology on platforms having no
cluster implementation and to avoid affecting the linux scheduling
domains in the VM. So only generate the cluster topology in ACPI
PPTT when the user has specified it explicitly in -smp.

Tested qemu-system-aarch64 with `-smp 8` and linux 6.1-rc1, without
this patch:

edf5ca5dbe include/hw/pci: Split pci_device.h off pci.h
PCIDeviceClass and PCIDevice are defined in pci.h.  Many users of the
header don't actually need them.  Similar structs live in their own
headers: PCIBusClass and PCIBus in pci_bus.h, PCIBridge in
pci_bridge.h, PCIHostBridgeClass and PCIHostState in pci_host.h,
PCIExpressHost in pcie_host.h, and PCIERootPortClass, PCIEPort, and
PCIESlot in pcie_port.h.

Move PCIDeviceClass and PCIDeviceClass to new pci_device.h, along with
the code that needs them.  Adjust include directives.

This also enables the next commit.

d1c81c3496 qapi: Use returned bool to check for failure (again)
Commit 012d4c96e2 changed the visitor functions taking Error ** to
return bool instead of void, and the commits following it used the new
return value to simplify error checking.  Since then a few more uses
in need of the same treatment crept in.  Do that.  All pretty
mechanical except for

* balloon_stats_get_all()

  This is basically the same transformation commit 012d4c96e2 applied
  to the virtual walk example in include/qapi/visitor.h.

* set_max_queue_size()

  Additionally replace "goto end of function" by return.

83bcae9820 hmat acpi: Don't require initiator value in -numa
The "Memory Proximity Domain Attributes" structure of the ACPI HMAT
has a "Processor Proximity Domain Valid" flag that is currently
always set because Qemu -numa requires an initiator=X value
when hmat=on. Unsetting this flag allows to create more complex
memory topologies by having multiple best initiators for a single
memory target.

This patch allows -numa without initiator=X when hmat=on by keeping
the default value MAX_NODES in numa_state->nodes[i].initiator.
All places reading numa_state->nodes[i].initiator already check
whether it's different from MAX_NODES before using it.

improve error handling during module load, by changing:

bool module_load(const char *prefix, const char *lib_name);
void module_load_qom(const char *type);

to:

int module_load(const char *prefix, const char *name, Error **errp);
int module_load_qom(const char *type, Error **errp);

where the return value is:

 -1 on module load error, and errp is set with the error
  0 on module or one of its dependencies are not installed
  1 on module load success
  2 on module load success (module already loaded or built-in)

module_load_qom_one has been introduced in:

commit 28457744c3 ("module: qom module support"), which built on top of
module_load_one, but discarded the bool return value. Restore it.

Adapt all callers to emit errors, or ignore them, or fail hard,
as appropriate in each context.

Replace the previous emission of errors via fprintf in _some_ error
conditions with Error and error_report, so as to emit to the appropriate
target.

A memory leak is also fixed as part of the module_load changes.

audio: when attempting to load an audio module, report module load errors.
Note that still for some callers, a single issue may generate multiple
error reports, and this could be improved further.
Regarding the audio code itself, audio_add() seems to ignore errors,
and this should probably be improved.

block: when attempting to load a block module, report module load errors.
For the code paths that already use the Error API, take advantage of those
to report module load errors into the Error parameter.
For the other code paths, we currently emit the error, but this could be
improved further by adding Error parameters to all possible code paths.

console: when attempting to load a display module, report module load errors.

qdev: when creating a new qdev Device object (DeviceState), report load errors.
      If a module cannot be loaded to create that device, now abort execution
      (if no CONFIG_MODULE) or exit (if CONFIG_MODULE).

qom/object.c: when initializing a QOM object, or looking up class_by_name,
              report module load errors.

qtest: when processing the "module_load" qtest command, report errors
       in the load of the module.

310616d367 hw/core/resettable: fix reset level counting
The code for handling the reset level count in the Resettable code
has two issues:

The reset count is only decremented for the 1->0 case.  This means
that if there's ever a nested reset that takes the count to 2 then it
will never again be decremented.  Eventually the count will exceed
the '50' limit in resettable_phase_enter() and QEMU will trip over
the assertion failure.  The repro case in issue 1266 is an example of
this that happens now the SCSI subsystem uses three-phase reset.

Secondly, the count is decremented only after the exit phase handler
is called.  Moving the reset count decrement from "just after" to
"just before" calling the exit phase handler allows
resettable_is_in_reset() to return false during the handler
execution.

This simplifies reset handling in resettable devices.  Typically, a
function that updates the device state will just need to read the
current reset state and not anymore treat the "in a reset-exit
transition" as a special case.

Note that the semantics change to the *_is_in_reset() functions
will have no effect on the current codebase, because only two
devices (hw/char/cadence_uart.c and hw/misc/zynq_sclr.c) currently
call those functions, and in neither case do they do it from the
device's exit phase methed.

1f0fea38f4 numa: call ->ram_block_removed() in ram_block_notifer_remove()
When a RAMBlockNotifier is added, ->ram_block_added() is called with all
existing RAMBlocks. There is no equivalent ->ram_block_removed() call
when a RAMBlockNotifier is removed.

The util/vfio-helpers.c code (the sole user of RAMBlockNotifier) is fine
with this asymmetry because it does not rely on RAMBlockNotifier for
cleanup. It walks its internal list of DMA mappings and unmaps them by
itself.

Future users of RAMBlockNotifier may not have an internal data structure
that records added RAMBlocks so they will need ->ram_block_removed()
callbacks.

This patch makes ram_block_notifier_remove() symmetric with respect to
callbacks. Now util/vfio-helpers.c needs to unmap remaining DMA mappings
after ram_block_notifier_remove() has been called. This is necessary
since users like block/nvme.c may create additional DMA mappings that do
not originate from the RAMBlockNotifier.

Add blocker to prevent hot-unplug of devices

TYPE_VFIO_USER_SERVER, which is introduced shortly, attaches itself to a
PCIDevice on which it depends. If the attached PCIDevice gets removed
while the server in use, it could cause it crash. To prevent this,
TYPE_VFIO_USER_SERVER adds an unplug blocker for the PCIDevice.

1ebf9001fb hw/cxl: Move the CXLState from MachineState to machine type specific state.
This removes the last of the CXL code from the MachineState where it
is visible to all Machines to only those that support CXL (currently i386/pc)
As i386/pc always support CXL now, stop allocating the state independently.

Note the pxb register hookup code runs even if cxl=off in order to detect
pxb_cxl host bridges and fail to start if any are present as they won't
have the control registers available.

03b39fcf64 hw/cxl: Make the CXL fixed memory window setup a machine parameter.
Paolo Bonzini requested this change to simplify the ongoing
effort to allow machine setup entirely via RPC.

Includes shortening the command line form cxl-fixed-memory-window
to cxl-fmw as the command lines are extremely long even with this
change.

The json change is needed to ensure that there is
a CXLFixedMemoryWindowOptionsList even though the actual
element in the json is never used. Similar to existing
SgxEpcProperties.

Update qemu-options.hx to reflect that this is now a -machine
parameter.  The bulk of -M / -machine parameters are documented
under machine, so use that in preference to M.

Update cxl-test and bios-tables-test to reflect new parameters.

36d83272d5 hw/nvme: do not auto-generate eui64
We cannot provide auto-generated unique or persistent namespace
identifiers (EUI64, NGUID, UUID) easily. Since 6.1, namespaces have been
assigned a generated EUI64 of the form "52:54:00:<namespace counter>".
This is will be unique within a QEMU instance, but not globally.

Revert that this is assigned automatically and immediately deprecate the
compatibility parameter. Users can opt-in to this with the
`eui64-default=on` device parameter or set it explicitly with
`eui64=UINT64`.

Make the GICv3 set its number of bits of physical priority from the
implementation-specific value provided in the CPU state struct, in
the same way we already do for virtual priority bits.  Because this
would be a migration compatibility break, we provide a property
force-8-bit-prio which is enabled for 7.0 and earlier versioned board
models to retain the legacy "always use 8 bits" behaviour.

ce9d03fb3f machine: add mem compound property
Make -m syntactic sugar for a compound property "-machine
mem.{size,max-size,slots}".  The new property does not have
the magic conversion to megabytes of unsuffixed arguments,
and also does not understand that "0" means the default size
(you have to leave it out to get the default).  This means
that we need to convert the QemuOpts by hand to a QDict.

1dcf7001d4 qapi/machine.json: Add cluster-id
This adds cluster-id in CPU instance properties, which will be used
by arm/virt machine. Besides, the cluster-id is also verified or
dumped in various spots:

  * hw/core/machine.c::machine_set_cpu_numa_node() to associate
    CPU with its NUMA node.

  * hw/core/machine.c::machine_numa_finish_cpu_init() to record
    CPU slots with no NUMA mapping set.

  * hw/core/machine-hmp-cmds.c::hmp_hotpluggable_cpus() to dump
    cluster-id.

a83c284490 acpi: fix acpi_index migration
vmstate_acpi_pcihp_use_acpi_index() was expecting AcpiPciHpState
as state but it actually received PIIX4PMState, because
VMSTATE_PCI_HOTPLUG is a macro and not another struct.
So it ended up accessing random pointer, which resulted
in 'false' return value and acpi_index field wasn't ever
sent.

However in 7.0 that pointer de-references to value > 0, and
destination QEMU starts to expect the field which isn't
sent in migratioon stream from older QEMU (6.2 and older).
As result migration fails with:
  qemu-system-x86_64: Missing section footer for 0000:00:01.3/piix4_pm
  qemu-system-x86_64: load of migration failed: Invalid argument

In addition with QEMU-6.2, destination due to not expected
state, also never expects the acpi_index field in migration
stream.

Q35 is not affected as it always sends/expects the field as
long as acpi based PCI hotplug is enabled.

Fix issue by introducing compat knob to never send/expect
acpi_index in migration stream for 6.2 and older PC machine
types and always send it for 7.0 and newer PC machine types.

e03b56863d Replace config-time define HOST_WORDS_BIGENDIAN
Replace a config-time define with a compile time condition
define (compatible with clang and gcc) that must be declared prior to
its usage. This avoids having a global configure time define, but also
prevents from bad usage, if the config header wasn't included before.

This can help to make some code independent from qemu too.

gcc supports __BYTE_ORDER__ from about 4.6 and clang from 3.2.

b21e238037 Use g_new() & friends where that makes obvious sense
g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n).  It's also safer,
for two reasons.  One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.

This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form
sizeof(T).

Patch created mechanically with:

5fc983af8b semihosting/arm-compat: replace heuristic for softmmu SYS_HEAPINFO
The previous numbers were a guess at best and rather arbitrary without
taking into account anything that might be loaded. Instead of using
guesses based on the state of registers implement a new function that:

 a) scans the MemoryRegions for the largest RAM block
 b) iterates through all "ROM" blobs looking for the biggest gap

The "ROM" blobs include all code loaded via -kernel and the various
-device loader techniques.

f42483d776 Allow setting up to 8 bytes with the generic loader
The documentation for the generic loader says that "the maximum size of
the data is 8 bytes". However, attempts to set data-len=8 trigger the
following assertion failure:

../hw/core/generic-loader.c:59: generic_loader_reset: Assertion `s->data_len < sizeof(s->data)' failed.

The type of s->data is uint64_t (i.e. 8 bytes long), so I believe this
assert should use <= instead of <.

b4c4c1f112 hw/elf_ops: clear uninitialized segment space
When the mem_size of the segment is bigger than the file_size,
and if this space doesn't overlap another segment, it needs
to be cleared.

This bug is very similar to the one we had for linux-user,
22d113b52f ("linux-user: Fix loading of BSS segments"),
where .bss section is encoded as an extension of the the data
one by setting the segment p_memsz > p_filesz.

eef3a7abff machine: Use host_memory_backend_is_mapped() in machine_consume_memdev()
memory_region_is_mapped() is the wrong check, we actually want to check
whether the backend is already marked mapped.

For example, memory regions mapped via an alias, such as NVDIMMs,
currently don't make memory_region_is_mapped() return "true". As the
machine is initialized before any memory devices (and thereby before
NVDIMMs are initialized), this isn't a fix but merely a cleanup.

864c3b5c32 hw/core/machine: Introduce CPU cluster topology support
The new Cluster-Aware Scheduling support has landed in Linux 5.16,
which has been proved to benefit the scheduling performance (e.g.
load balance and wake_affine strategy) on both x86_64 and AArch64.

So now in Linux 5.16 we have four-level arch-neutral CPU topology
definition like below and a new scheduler level for clusters.

A cluster generally means a group of CPU cores which share L2 cache
or other mid-level resources, and it is the shared resources that
is used to improve scheduler's behavior. From the point of view of
the size range, it's between CPU die and CPU core. For example, on
some ARM64 Kunpeng servers, we have 6 clusters in each NUMA node,
and 4 CPU cores in each cluster. The 4 CPU cores share a separate
L2 cache and a L3 cache tag, which brings cache affinity advantage.

In virtualization, on the Hosts which have pClusters (physical
clusters), if we can design a vCPU topology with cluster level for
guest kernel and have a dedicated vCPU pinning. A Cluster-Aware
Guest kernel can also make use of the cache affinity of CPU clusters
to gain similar scheduling performance.

This patch adds infrastructure for CPU cluster level topology
configuration and parsing, so that the user can specify cluster
parameter if their machines support it.

The basic SGX did not enable numa for SGX EPC sections, which
result in all EPC sections located in numa node 0. This patch
enable SGX numa function in the guest and the EPC section can
work with RAM as one numa node.

db78a60559 machine: remove the done notifier for dynamic sysbus device type check
Now that we check sysbus device types during device creation, we
can remove the check in the machine init done notifier.
This was the only thing done by this notifier, so we remove the
whole sysbus_notifier structure of the MachineState.

Note: This notifier was checking all /peripheral and /peripheral-anon
sysbus devices. Now we only check those added by -device cli option or
device_add qmp command when handling the command/option. So if there
are some devices added in one of these containers manually (eg in
machine C code), these will not be checked anymore.
This use case does not seem to appear apart from
hw/xen/xen-legacy-backend.c (it uses qdev_set_id() and in this case,
not for a sysbus device, so it's ok).

b5fdf4102f machine: add device_type_is_dynamic_sysbus function
Right now the allowance check for adding a sysbus device using
-device cli option (or device_add qmp command) is done well after
the device has been created. It is done during the machine init done
notifier: machine_init_notify() in hw/core/machine.c

This new function will allow us to do the check at the right time and
issue an error if it fails.

Also make device_is_dynamic_sysbus() use the new function.

86ce2d28fa hw/core/machine: Split out the smp parsing code
We are going to introduce an unit test for the parser smp_parse()
in hw/core/machine.c, but now machine.c is only built in softmmu.

In order to solve the build dependency on the smp parsing code and
avoid building unrelated stuff for the unit tests, move the tested
code from machine.c into a separate file, i.e., machine-smp.c and
build it in common field.

8975eb891f hw/elf_ops.h: switch to ssize_t for elf loader return type
Until now, int was used as the return type for all the ELF
loader related functions. The returned value is the sum of all loaded
program headers "MemSize" fields.

Because of the overflow check in elf_ops.h, trying to load an ELF bigger
than INT_MAX will fail. Switch to ssize_t to remove this limitation.

995b87dedc Revert "cpu: Move cpu_common_props to hw/core/cpu.c"
This reverts commit 1b36e4f5a5.

Despite a comment saying why cpu_common_props cannot be placed in
a file that is compiled once, it was moved anyway.  Revert that.

Since then, Property is not defined in hw/core/cpu.h, so it is now
easier to declare a function to install the properties rather than
the Property array itself.

f3558b1b76 qdev: Base object creation on QDict rather than QemuOpts
QDicts are both what QMP natively uses and what the keyval parser
produces. Going through QemuOpts isn't useful for either one, so switch
the main device creation function to QDicts. By sharing more code with
the -object/object-add code path, we can even reduce the code size a
bit.

This commit doesn't remove the detour through QemuOpts from any code
path yet, but it allows the following commits to do so.

7d61808206 qdev: Add Error parameter to hide_device() callbacks
hide_device() is used for virtio-net failover, where the standby virtio
device delays creation of the primary device. It only makes sense to
have a single primary device for each standby device. Adding a second
one should result in an error instead of hiding it and never using it
afterwards.

Prepare for this by adding an Error parameter to the hide_device()
callback where virtio-net is informed about adding a primary device.

e287bf7bb1 net: Introduce NetClientInfo.check_peer_type()
Some network backends (vhost-user and vhost-vdpa) work only with
specific devices. At startup, they second guess what the command line
option handling will do and error out if they think a non-virtio device
will attach to them.

This second guessing is not only ugly, it can lead to wrong error
messages ('-device floppy,netdev=foo' should complain about an unknown
property, not about the wrong kind of network device being attached) and
completely ignores hotplugging.

Add a callback where backends can check compatibility with a device when
it actually tries to attach, even on hotplug.

46ce017167 vhost-vsock: handle common features in vhost-vsock-common
virtio-vsock features, like VIRTIO_VSOCK_F_SEQPACKET, can be handled
by vhost-vsock-common parent class. In this way, we can reuse the
same code for all virtio-vsock backends (i.e. vhost-vsock,
vhost-user-vsock).

Let's move `seqpacket` property to vhost-vsock-common class, add
vhost_vsock_common_get_features() used by children, and disable
`seqpacket` for vhost-user-vsock device for machine types < 6.2.

The behavior of vhost-vsock device doesn't change; vhost-user-vsock
device now supports `seqpacket` property.

d6a9378f47 vhost-vsock: fix migration issue when seqpacket is supported
Commit 1e08fd0a46 ("vhost-vsock: SOCK_SEQPACKET feature bit support")
enabled the SEQPACKET feature bit.
This commit is released with QEMU 6.1, so if we try to migrate a VM where
the host kernel supports SEQPACKET but machine type version is less than
6.1, we get the following errors:

    Features 0x130000002 unsupported. Allowed features: 0x179000000
    Failed to load virtio-vhost_vsock:virtio
    error while loading state for instance 0x0 of device '0000:00:05.0/virtio-vhost_vsock'
    load of migration failed: Operation not permitted

Let's disable the feature bit for machine types < 6.1.
We add a new OnOffAuto property for this, called `seqpacket`.
When it is `auto` (default), QEMU behaves as before, trying to enable the
feature, when it is `on` QEMU will fail if the backend (vhost-vsock
kernel module) doesn't support it.

e4a97a893b machine: Make smp_parse generic enough for all arches
Currently the only difference between smp_parse and pc_smp_parse
is the support of dies parameter and the related error reporting.
With some arch compat variables like "bool dies_supported", we can
make smp_parse generic enough for all arches and the PC specific
one can be removed.

Making smp_parse() generic enough can reduce code duplication and
ease the code maintenance, and also allows extending the topology
with more arch specific members (e.g., clusters) in the future.

4a0af2930a machine: Prefer cores over sockets in smp parsing since 6.2
In the real SMP hardware topology world, it's much more likely that
we have high cores-per-socket counts and few sockets totally. While
the current preference of sockets over cores in smp parsing results
in a virtual cpu topology with low cores-per-sockets counts and a
large number of sockets, which is just contrary to the real world.

Given that it is better to make the virtual cpu topology be more
reflective of the real world and also for the sake of compatibility,
we start to prefer cores over sockets over threads in smp parsing
since machine type 6.2 for different arches.

In this patch, a boolean "smp_prefer_sockets" is added, and we only
enable the old preference on older machines and enable the new one
since type 6.2 for all arches by using the machine compat mechanism.

We have two requirements for a valid SMP configuration:
the product of "sockets * cores * threads" must represent all the
possible cpus, i.e., max_cpus, and then must include the initially
present cpus, i.e., smp_cpus.

So we only need to ensure 1) "sockets * cores * threads == maxcpus"
at first and then ensure 2) "maxcpus >= cpus". With a reasonable
order of the sanity check, we can simplify the error reporting code.
When reporting an error message we also report the exact value of
each topology member to make users easily see what's going on.

Currently we directly calculate the omitted cpus based on the given
incomplete collection of parameters. This makes some cmdlines like:
  -smp maxcpus=16
  -smp sockets=2,maxcpus=16
  -smp sockets=2,dies=2,maxcpus=16
  -smp sockets=2,cores=4,maxcpus=16
not work. We should probably set the value of cpus to match maxcpus
if it's omitted, which will make above configs start to work.

So the calculation logic of cpus/maxcpus after this patch will be:
When both maxcpus and cpus are omitted, maxcpus will be calculated
from the given parameters and cpus will be set equal to maxcpus.
When only one of maxcpus and cpus is given then the omitted one
will be set to its counterpart's value. Both maxcpus and cpus may
be specified, but maxcpus must be equal to or greater than cpus.

Note: change in this patch won't affect any existing working cmdlines
but allows more incomplete configs to be valid.

We are currently using maxcpus to calculate the omitted sockets
but using cpus to calculate the omitted cores/threads. This makes
cmdlines like:
  -smp cpus=8,maxcpus=16
  -smp cpus=8,cores=4,maxcpus=16
  -smp cpus=8,threads=2,maxcpus=16
work fine but the ones like:
  -smp cpus=8,sockets=2,maxcpus=16
  -smp cpus=8,sockets=2,cores=4,maxcpus=16
  -smp cpus=8,sockets=2,threads=2,maxcpus=16
break the sanity check.

Since we require for a valid config that the product of "sockets * cores
* threads" should equal to the maxcpus, we should uniformly use maxcpus
to calculate their omitted values.

Also the if-branch of "cpus == 0 || sockets == 0" was split into two
branches of "cpus == 0" and "sockets == 0" so that we can clearly read
that we are parsing the configuration with a preference on cpus over
sockets over cores over threads.

Note: change in this patch won't affect any existing working cmdlines
but improves consistency and allows more incomplete configs to be valid.

make some refactor/cleanup for the smp parsers, including using
local maxcpus instead of ms->smp.max_cpus in the calculation,
defaulting dies to 0 initially like other members, cleanup the
sanity check for dies.

We actually also fix a hidden defect by avoiding directly using
the provided *zero value* in the calculation, which could cause
a segment fault (e.g. using dies=0 in the calculation).

c2511b1632 machine: Deprecate "parameter=0" SMP configurations
In the SMP configuration, we should either provide a topology
parameter with a reasonable value (greater than zero) or just
omit it and QEMU will compute the missing value.

The users shouldn't provide a configuration with any parameter
of it specified as zero (e.g. -smp 8,sockets=0) which could
possibly cause unexpected results in the -smp parsing. So we
deprecate this kind of configurations since 6.2 by adding the
explicit sanity check.

d1a58c176a qdev: allow setting drive property for realized device
We need an ability to insert filters above top block node, attached to
block device. It can't be achieved with blockdev-reopen command. So, we
want do it with help of qom-set.

Intended usage:

Assume there is a node A that is attached to some guest device.

1. blockdev-add to create a filter node B that has A as its child.

2. qom-set to change the node attached to the guest device’s
   BlockBackend from A to B.

99abcbc760 clock: Provide builtin multiplier/divider
It is quite common for a clock tree to involve possibly programmable
clock multipliers or dividers, where the frequency of a clock is for
instance divided by 8 to produce a slower clock to feed to a
particular device.

Currently we provide no convenient mechanism for modelling this.  You
can implement it by having an input Clock and an output Clock, and
manually setting the period of the output clock in the period-changed
callback of the input clock, but that's quite clunky.

This patch adds support in the Clock objects themselves for setting a
multiplier or divider.  The effect of setting this on a clock is that
when the clock's period is changed, all the children of the clock are
set to period * multiplier / divider, rather than being set to the
same period as the parent clock.

312c496a95 hw/core/loader: In gunzip(), check index is in range before use, not after
The gunzip() function reads various fields from a passed in source
buffer in order to skip a header before passing the actual compressed
data to the zlib inflate() function.  It does check whether the
passed in buffer is too small, but unfortunately it checks that only
after reading bytes from the src buffer, so it could read off the end
of the buffer.

You can see this with valgrind:

ea0aa1752c hw/core: fix error checking in smp_parse
machine_set_smp() mistakenly checks 'errp' not '*errp',
and so thinks there is an error every single time it runs.
This causes it to jump to the end of the method, skipping
the max CPUs checks. The caller meanwhile sees no error
and so carries on execution. The result of all this is:

 $ qemu-system-x86_64 -smp -1
 qemu-system-x86_64: GLib: ../glib/gmem.c:142: failed to allocate 481036337048 bytes

instead of

 $ qemu-system-x86_64 -smp -1
 qemu-system-x86_64: Invalid SMP CPUs -1. The max CPUs supported by machine 'pc-i440fx-6.1' is 255

The initial value of VLAN Ether Type (VET) register is 0x8100, as per
the manual and real hardware.

While Linux e1000e driver always writes VET register to 0x8100, it is
not always the case for everyone. Drivers relying on the reset value
of VET won't be able to transmit and receive VLAN frames in QEMU.

Unlike e1000 in QEMU, e1000e uses a field 'vet' in "struct E1000Core"
to cache the value of VET register, but the cache only gets updated
when VET register is written. To always get a consistent VET value
no matter VET is written or remains its reset value, drop the 'vet'
field and use 'core->mac[VET]' directly.

3f3cbbb236 hw/pci/pcie: Do not set HPC flag if acpihp is used
Instead of changing the hot-plug type in _OSC register, do not
set the 'Hot-Plug Capable' flag. This way guest will choose ACPI
hot-plug if it is preferred and leave the option to use SHPC with
pcie-pci-bridge.

The ability to control hot-plug for each downstream port is retained,
while 'hotplug=off' on the port means all hot-plug types are disabled.

294aa0437b numa: Parse initiator= attribute before cpus= attribute
When parsing cpus= attribute of -numa object couple of checks
is performed, such as correct initiator setting (see the if()
statement at the end of for() loop in
machine_set_cpu_numa_node()).

However, with the current code cpus= attribute is parsed before
initiator= attribute and thus the check may fail even though it
is not obvious why. But since parsing the initiator= attribute
does not depend on the cpus= attribute we can swap the order of
the two.

f74d339c86 numa: Report expected initiator
When setting up NUMA with HMAT enabled there's a check performed
in machine_set_cpu_numa_node() that reports an error when a NUMA
node has a CPU but the node's initiator is not itself. The error
message reported contains only the expected value and not the
actual value (which is different because an error is being
reported). Report both values in the error message.

cdba7e2f49 cpu: Introduce cpu_virtio_is_big_endian()
Introduce the cpu_virtio_is_big_endian() generic helper to avoid
calling CPUClass internal virtio_is_big_endian() one.

Similarly to commit bf7663c4bd ("cpu: introduce
CPUClass::virtio_is_big_endian()"), we keep 'virtio' in the method
name to hint this handler shouldn't be called anywhere but from the
virtio code.

ff6e1624b3 pckbd: don't update OBF flags if KBD_STAT_OBF is set
Don't update the OBF flags in the status register and the cor-
responding IRQ lines if KBD_STAT_OBF is set. Otherwise this
may change the PS/2 event type. If the guest ISR was already
scheduled, the changed event type will be rather surprising for
the guest.

This fixes a mouse event stream corruption. To reproduce the
problem start a FreeDOS 1.2 guest with -machine pc,accel=kvm
and -display gtk. The KVM in-kernel irqchip has to be enabled.
Now open a text file with edit.exe in the guest and hold down
the cursor right key and at the same time move the mouse around.
You will quickly notice erratic mouse movements and unexpected
mouse clicks.

A trace file shows the mouse event stream corruption. Guest
rip 0xce93 (f000:ce93) is the in al,0x60 instruction in the
seabios mouse ISR, guest rip 0xceca (f000:ceca) is the
in al,0x60 instruction in the seabios keyboard ISR.

082851a3af util: vfio-helpers: Factor out and fix processing of existing ram blocks
Factor it out into common code when a new notifier is registered, just
as done with the memory region notifier. This keeps logic about how to
process existing ram blocks at a central place.

Just like when adding a new ram block, we have to register the max_length.
Ram blocks are only "fake resized". All memory (max_length) is mapped.

Print the warning from inside qemu_vfio_ram_block_added().

a6091108aa hw/pci-host/gpex: Don't fault for unmapped parts of MMIO and PIO windows
Currently the gpex PCI controller implements no special behaviour for
guest accesses to areas of the PIO and MMIO where it has not mapped
any PCI devices, which means that for Arm you end up with a CPU
exception due to a data abort.

Most host OSes expect "like an x86 PC" behaviour, where bad accesses
like this return -1 for reads and ignore writes.  In the interests of
not being surprising, make host CPU accesses to these windows behave
as -1/discard where there's no mapped PCI device.

The old behaviour generally didn't cause any problems, because
almost always the guest OS will map the PCI devices and then only
access where it has mapped them. One corner case where you will see
this kind of access is if Linux attempts to probe legacy ISA
devices via a PIO window access. So far the only case where we've
seen this has been via the syzkaller fuzzer.

0fb124dbfa machine: Provide a function to check the dynamic sysbus allowlist
Provide a new function dynamic_sysbus_dev_allowed() which checks the
per-machine list of permitted dynamic sysbus devices and returns a
boolean result indicating whether the device is allowed.  We can use
this in the implementation of validate_sysbus_device(), but we will
also need it so that machine hotplug callbacks can validate devices
rather than assuming that any sysbus device might be hotpluggable
into the platform bus.

1228c4596a hw/core/loader: Add new function rom_ptr_for_as()
For accesses to rom blob data before or during reset, we have a
function rom_ptr() which looks for a rom blob that would be loaded to
the specified address, and returns a pointer into the rom blob data
corresponding to that address.  This allows board or CPU code to say
"what is the data that is going to be loaded to this address?".

However, this function does not take account of memory region
aliases.  If for instance a machine model has RAM at address
0x0000_0000 which is aliased to also appear at 0x1000_0000, a
rom_ptr() query for address 0x0000_0000 will only return a match if
the guest image provided by the user was loaded at 0x0000_0000 and
not if it was loaded at 0x1000_0000, even though they are the same
RAM and a run-time guest CPU read of 0x0000_0000 will read the data
loaded to 0x1000_0000.

Provide a new function rom_ptr_for_as() which takes an AddressSpace
argument, so that it can check whether the MemoryRegion corresponding
to the address is also mapped anywhere else in the AddressSpace and
look for rom blobs that loaded to that alias.

e6fa978d83 hw/arm/virt: Disable pl011 clock migration if needed
A clock is added by commit aac63e0e6e ("hw/char/pl011: add a clock
input") since v5.2.0 which corresponds to virt-5.2 machine type. It
causes backwards migration failure from upstream to downstream (v5.1.0)
when the machine type is specified with virt-5.1.

This fixes the issue by following instructions from section "Connecting
subsections to properties" in docs/devel/migration.rst. With this applied,
the PL011 clock is migrated based on the machine type.

   virt-5.2 or newer:  migration
   virt-5.1 or older:  non-migration

fb0b154c80 virtio-blk: Respect discard granularity
Report the configured granularity for discard operation to the
guest. If this is not set use the block size.

Since until now we have ignored the configured discard granularity
and always reported the block size, let's add
'report-discard-granularity' property and disable it for older
machine types to avoid migration issues.

51a81a2118 virtio-net: calculating proper msix vectors on init
Currently, the default msix vectors for virtio-net-pci is 3 which is
obvious not suitable for multiqueue guest, so we depends on the user
or management tools to pass a correct vectors parameter. In fact, we
can simplifying this by calculating the number of vectors on realize.

Consider we have N queues, the number of vectors needed is 2*N + 2
(#queue pairs + plus one config interrupt and control vq). We didn't
check whether or not host support control vq because it was added
unconditionally by qemu to avoid breaking legacy guests such as Minix.

Hypervisors, especially type-1 ones, need the firmware/bootcode to put
their initial guest somewhere in memory and pass the information to it
via platform data. The guest-loader is modelled after the generic
loader for exactly this sort of purpose:

5ee0abed51 clock: Add ClockEvent parameter to callbacks
The Clock framework allows users to specify a callback which is
called after the clock's period has been updated.  Some users need to
also have a callback which is called before the clock period is
updated.

As the first step in adding support for notifying Clock users on
pre-update events, add an argument to the ClockCallback to specify
what event is being notified, and add an argument to the various
functions for registering a callback to specify which events are
of interest to that callback.

Note that the documentation update renders correct the previously
incorrect claim in 'Adding a new clock' that callbacks "will be
explained in a following section".

6be8cf56bc acpi/core: always set SCI_EN when SMM isn't supported
If SMM is not supported, ACPI fixed hardware doesn't support
legacy-mode. ACPI-only platform. Where SCI_EN in PM1_CNT register is
always set.
The bit tells OS legacy mode(SCI_EN cleared) or ACPI mode(SCI_EN set).

With the next patch (setting fadt.smi_cmd = 0 when smm isn't enabled),
guest Linux tries to switch to ACPI mode, finds smi_cmd = 0, and then
fails to initialize acpi subsystem. This patch proactively fixes it.

This patch changes guest ABI. To keep compatibility, use
"smm-compat" introduced by earlier patch. If the property is true,
disable new behavior.

9f88a7a3df confidential guest support: Alter virtio default properties for protected guests
The default behaviour for virtio devices is not to use the platforms normal
DMA paths, but instead to use the fact that it's running in a hypervisor
to directly access guest memory.  That doesn't work if the guest's memory
is protected from hypervisor access, such as with AMD's SEV or POWER's PEF.

So, if a confidential guest mechanism is enabled, then apply the
iommu_platform=on option so it will go through normal DMA mechanisms.
Those will presumably have some way of marking memory as shared with
the hypervisor or hardware so that DMA will work.

e0292d7c62 confidential guest support: Rework the "memory-encryption" property
Currently the "memory-encryption" property is only looked at once we
get to kvm_init().  Although protection of guest memory from the
hypervisor isn't something that could really ever work with TCG, it's
not conceptually tied to the KVM accelerator.

In addition, the way the string property is resolved to an object is
almost identical to how a QOM link property is handled.

So, create a new "confidential-guest-support" link property which sets
this QOM interface link directly in the machine.  For compatibility we
keep the "memory-encryption" property, but now implemented in terms of
the new property.

6e6a6ca7d9 confidential guest support: Move side effect out of machine_set_memory_encryption()
When the "memory-encryption" property is set, we also disable KSM
merging for the guest, since it won't accomplish anything.

We want that, but doing it in the property set function itself is
thereoretically incorrect, in the unlikely event of some configuration
environment that set the property then cleared it again before
constructing the guest.

More importantly, it makes some other cleanups we want more difficult.
So, instead move this logic to machine_run_board_init() conditional on
the final value of the property.
