to the Visitor parameter.
Done by manually changing include/qom/object.h and qom/object.c,

JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were
called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be
a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to
match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(),
where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the
otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's
time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the
'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument.
Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h
prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to
unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in
qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients.
Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and
those clients to match.
Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated
files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle
script to affect the rest of the code base:
$ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'`
I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB
indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of
visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to
the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). The
movement of parameters is sufficient to provoke compiler errors
if any callers were missed.

This patch enables migrating vcpu's TSC rate. If KVM on the
destination machine supports TSC scaling, guest programs will
observe a consistent TSC rate across the migration.
If TSC scaling is not supported on the destination machine, the
migration will not be aborted and QEMU on the destination will
not set vcpu's TSC rate to the migrated value.
If vcpu's TSC rate specified by CPU option 'tsc-freq' on the
destination machine is inconsistent with the migrated TSC rate,
the migration will be aborted.
For backwards compatibility, the migration of vcpu's TSC rate is
disabled on pc-*-2.5 and older machine types.

* The code is moved to a new function kvm_arch_set_tsc_khz().
* If kvm_arch_set_tsc_khz() fails, i.e. following two conditions are
both satisfied:
* KVM does not support the TSC scaling or it fails to set vcpu's
TSC rate by KVM_SET_TSC_KHZ,
* the TSC rate to be set is different than the value currently used
by KVM, then kvm_arch_init_vcpu() will fail. Prevously,
* the lack of TSC scaling never failed kvm_arch_init_vcpu(),
* the failure of KVM_SET_TSC_KHZ failed kvm_arch_init_vcpu()

The first commit changed the KVM_SET_SREGS ioctl so that it did no treat
segment flags == 0 as an unusable segment, instead only looking at the
"present" flag.
The second commit changed KVM_GET_SREGS so that it did not clear the
flags of an unusable segment.
Since QEMU does not itself maintain the "unusable" flag across a
migration, the end result is that unusable segments read from a kernel
with these commits and loaded into a kernel without these commits are
not properly recognised as being unusable.
This commit updates both get_seg and set_seg so that the problem is
avoided even when migrating to or migrating from a QEMU without this
commit. In get_seg, we clear the segment flags if the segment is marked
unusable. In set_seg, we mark the segment unusable if the segment's
"present" flag is not set.

MCE_CAP_DEF|MCE_BANKS_DEF at target-i386/cpu.c:mce_init(), this
doesn't change any behavior. But it will allow us to change
mce_init() in the future, to implement different defaults
depending on CPU model, machine-type or command-line parameters.

Instead of silently changing the number of banks in mcg_cap based
on kvm_get_mce_cap_supported(), abort initialization if the host
doesn't support MCE_BANKS_DEF banks.
Note that MCE_BANKS_DEF was always 10 since it was introduced in
QEMU, and Linux always returned 32 at KVM_CAP_MCE since
KVM_CAP_MCE was introduced, so no behavior is being changed and
the error can't be triggered by any Linux version. The point of
the new check is to ensure we won't silently change the bank
count if we change MCE_BANKS_DEF or make the bank count

Current default behavior of QEMU is to silently disable features that
are not supported by the host when a CPU model is requested in the
command-line. This means that in addition to risking breaking guest ABI
by default, we are silent about it.
I would like to enable "enforce" by default, but this can easily break
existing production systems because of the way libvirt makes assumptions
about CPU models today (this will change in the future, once QEMU
provide a proper interface for checking if a CPU model is runnable).
But there's no reason we should be silent about it. So, change
target-i386 to enable "check" mode by default so at least we have some
warning printed to stderr (and hopefully logged somewhere) when QEMU
disables a feature that is not supported by the host system.

Several devices don't survive object_unref(object_new(T)): they crash
or hang during cleanup, or they leave dangling pointers behind.
This breaks at least device-list-properties, because
qmp_device_list_properties() needs to create a device to find its
properties. Broken in commit f4eb32b "qmp: show QOM properties in
device-list-properties", v2.1. Example reproducer:
$ qemu-system-aarch64 -nodefaults -display none -machine none -S -qmp stdio
{"QMP": {"version": {"qemu": {"micro": 50, "minor": 4, "major": 2}, "package": ""}, "capabilities": []}}
{ "execute": "qmp_capabilities" }
{"return": {}}
{ "execute": "device-list-properties", "arguments": { "typename": "pxa2xx-pcmcia" } }
qemu-system-aarch64: /home/armbru/work/qemu/memory.c:1307: memory_region_finalize: Assertion `((&mr->subregions)->tqh_first == ((void *)0))' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
[Exit 134 (SIGABRT)]
Unfortunately, I can't fix the problems in these devices right now.
Instead, add DeviceClass member cannot_destroy_with_object_finalize_yet
to mark them:
* Hang during cleanup (didn't debug, so I can't say why):
"realview_pci", "versatile_pci".
* Dangling pointer in cpus: most CPUs, plus "allwinner-a10", "digic",
"fsl,imx25", "fsl,imx31", "xlnx,zynqmp", because they create such
CPUs
* Assert kvm_enabled(): "host-x86_64-cpu", host-i386-cpu",
"host-powerpc64-cpu", "host-embedded-powerpc-cpu",
"host-powerpc-cpu" (the powerpc ones can't currently reach the
assertion, because the CPUs are only registered when KVM is enabled,
but the assertion is arguably in the wrong place all the same)
Make qmp_device_list_properties() fail cleanly when the device is so
marked. This improves device-list-properties from "crashes, hangs or
leaves dangling pointers behind" to "fails". Not a complete fix, just
a better-than-nothing work-around. In the above reproducer,
device-list-properties now fails with "Can't list properties of device
'pxa2xx-pcmcia'".
This also protects -device FOO,help, which uses the same machinery
since commit ef52358 "qdev-monitor: include QOM properties in -device
FOO, help output", v2.2. Example reproducer:
$ qemu-system-aarch64 -machine none -device pxa2xx-pcmcia,help
Before:
qemu-system-aarch64: .../memory.c:1307: memory_region_finalize: Assertion `((&mr->subregions)->tqh_first == ((void *)0))' failed.

When doing a re-initialization of a CPU core, the default state is to _not_
have 64-bit long mode enabled. This means the LME (long mode enable) and LMA
(long mode active) bits in the EFER model-specific register should be cleared.
However, the EFER state is part of the CPU environment which is
preserved by do_cpu_init(), so if EFER.LME and EFER.LMA were set at the
time an INIT IPI was received, they will remain set after the init completes.
This is contrary to what the Intel architecture manual describes and what
happens on real hardware, and it leaves the CPU in a weird state that the
guest can't clear.
To fix this, the 'efer' member of the CPUX86State structure has been moved
to an area outside the region preserved by do_cpu_init(), so that it can
be properly re-initialized by x86_cpu_reset().

Rename ELF_MACHINE to be I386 specific. This is used as-is by the
multiboot loader.
Linux-user previously used this definition but will not anymore,
falling back to the default bahaviour of using ELF_ARCH as ELF_MACHINE.
This removes another architecture specific definition from the global
namespace.

This is set to true when the index is for an instruction fetch
translation.
The core get_page_addr_code() sets it, as do the SOFTMMU_CODE_ACCESS
acessors.
All targets ignore it for now, and all other callers pass "false".
This will allow targets who wish to split the mmu index between
instruction and data accesses to do so. A subsequent patch will
do just that for PowerPC.

W10 insider has a bug where it ignores CPUID level and interprets
CPUID.(EAX=07H, ECX=0H) incorrectly, because CPUID in fact returned
CPUID.(EAX=04H, ECX=0H); this resulted in execution of unsupported
instructions.
While it's a Windows bug, there is no reason to emulate incorrect level.
I used http://instlatx64.atw.hu/ as a source of CPUID and checked that
it matches Penryn Xeon X5472, Westmere Xeon W3520, SandyBridge i5-2540M,
and Haswell i5-4670T.
kvm64 and qemu64 were bumped to 0xD to allow all available features for

The TSC frequency fits comfortably in an int when expressed in kHz,
but it may overflow when converted to Hz. In this case,
tsc-frequency returns a negative value because x86_cpuid_get_tsc_freq
does a 32-bit multiplication before assigning to int64_t.
For simplicity just make tsc_khz a 64-bit value.

This opens the path to get rid of the iothread lock on vmexits in KVM
mode. On x86, the in-kernel irqchips has to be used because we otherwise
need to synchronize APIC and other per-cpu state accesses that could be
changed concurrently.
Regarding pre/post-run callbacks, s390x and ARM should be fine without
specific locking as the callbacks are empty. MIPS and POWER require
locking for the pre-run callback.
For the handle_exit callback, it is non-empty in x86, POWER and s390.
Some POWER cases could do without the locking, but it is left in

Remove cpu_smm_register and cpu_smm_update. Instead, each CPU
address space gets an extra region which is an alias of
/machine/smram. This extra region is enabled or disabled
as the CPU enters/exits SMM.

Different CPUs can be in SMM or not at the same time, thus they
will see different things where the chipset places SMRAM.

An SMI should definitely wake up a processor in halted state!
This lets OVMF boot with SMM on multiprocessor systems, although
it halts very soon after that with a "CpuIndex != BspIndex"
assertion failure.

Because the limit field's bits 31:20 is 1, G should be 1.
VMX actually enforces this, let's do it for completeness
in QEMU as well.
Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
QEMU is not blocking NMIs on entry to SMM. Implementing this has to
cover a few corner cases, because:
- NMIs can then be enabled by an IRET instruction and there
is no mechanism to _set_ the "NMIs masked" flag on exit from SMM:
"A special case can occur if an SMI handler nests inside an NMI handler
and then another NMI occurs. [...] When the processor enters SMM while
executing an NMI handler, the processor saves the SMRAM state save map
but does not save the attribute to keep NMI interrupts disabled.
- However, there is some hidden state, because "If NMIs were blocked
before the SMI occurred [and no IRET is executed while in SMM], they
are blocked after execution of RSM." This is represented by the new
HF2_SMM_INSIDE_NMI_MASK bit. If it is zero, NMIs are _unblocked_
on exit from RSM.

So instead of making the CPU model results confusing by making it depend

Note that the code generating backends still manipulate labels as int.
With notable exceptions, the scope of the change is just a few lines

x86_cpu_apic_realize() calls qdev_init() to realize the APIC.
qdev_init()'s error handling has unwanted side effects: it unparents
the device, and it calls qerror_report_err().
qerror_report_err() is always inappropriate in realize methods,
because it doesn't return the Error object. It either reports the
error to stderr or the human monitor, or it stores it in the QMP
monitor, where it makes the QMP command fail even though the realize
method succeeded.
Fortunately, qdev_init() can't actually fail here, because realize
can't fail for any of the three possible APIC device models.
Clean up by cutting out the qdev_init() middle-man: set property
"realized" directly.

However, the code in helper_sysret() leaves them at 0 (in other words, the "OR

Right now, the AVX512 registers are split in many different fields:
xmm_regs for the low 128 bits of the first 16 registers, ymmh_regs
for the next 128 bits of the same first 16 registers, zmmh_regs
for the next 256 bits of the same first 16 registers, and finally
hi16_zmm_regs for the full 512 bits of the second 16 bit registers.
This makes it simple to move data in and out of the xsave region,
but would be a nightmare for a hypothetical TCG implementation and
leads to a proliferation of [XYZ]MM_[BWLSQD] macros. Instead,
this patch marshals data manually from the xsave region to a single
32x512-bit array, simplifying the macro jungle and clarifying which
bits are in which vmstate subsection.
The migration format is unaffected.
Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
After the next patch, each vmstate field will extract parts of a larger
(32x512-bit) array, so we cannot check the vmstate field against the
type of the array.
While changing this, change the macros to accept the index of the first
element (which will not be 0 for Hi16_ZMM_REGS) instead of the number
of elements (which is always CPU_NB_REGS).

Use inline functions rather than macros for cpu_ld/st accessors
for the *-user configurations, as we already do for softmmu.
This has a two advantages:
* we can actually typecheck our arguments
* we don't need to leak the _raw macros everywhere
Since the _kernel functions were only used by target-i386/seg_helper.c,
put the definitions for them in that file too. (It already has the
similar template include code to define them for the softmmu case,
so it makes sense to have it deal with defining them for user-only.)

guest CPU implementation supports the breakpoint handling. However,
all our guest CPUs have that support (the only two which do not
define TARGET_HAS_ICE are unicore32 and openrisc, and in both those
cases the bp support is present and the lack of the #define is just
a bug). So remove the #define entirely: all new guest CPU support

g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n). It's also safer,
for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.
This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form

TCG generates optimized code for i386 repz instructions in single step mode.
It means that when ecx becomes 0, execution of the string instruction breaks
immediately without an additional iteration for ecx==0 (which will only check
ecx and set the flags). Omitting this iteration leads to different
instructions counting in singlestep mode and in normal execution.
This patch disables optimization of this last iteration for icount mode

After the next patch, if a masked PIC interrupts causes CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL
to be set, the CPU will spuriously get out of halted state. While this
is technically valid, we should avoid that.
Make CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL run apic_update_irq in the right thread and then
look at CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD. If CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD does not get set,
do not report the CPU as having work.
Also move the handling of software-disabled APIC from apic_update_irq
to apic_irq_pending, and always trigger CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL. This will
be important once we will add a case that resets CPU_INTERRUPT_HARD
from apic_update_irq. We want to run it even if we go through
CPU_INTERRUPT_POLL, and even if the local APIC is software disabled.

sipi_vector is an int; it is shifted by 12 and passed as a 64-bit value,

Make SVM be disabled by default on all CPU models when in KVM mode.
Nested SVM is enabled by default in the KVM kernel module, but it is
probably less stable than nested VMX (which is already disabled by
default).
Add a new compat function, x86_cpu_compat_kvm_no_autodisable(), to keep
compatibility on previous machine-types.

TCG doesn't support VMX, and nested VMX is not enabled by default in the
KVM kernel module.
So, there's no reason to have VMX enabled by default on the core2duo and
coreduo CPU models, today. Even the newer Intel CPU model definitions
don't have it enabled.
In this case, we need machine-type compat code, as people may be running
the older machine-types on hosts that had VMX nesting enabled.

The following CPU features were never supported by neither TCG or KVM,
so they are useless on the CPU model definitions, today:
* CPUID_DTS (DS)
* CPUID_HT
* CPUID_TM
* CPUID_PBE
* CPUID_EXT_DTES64
* CPUID_EXT_DSCPL
* CPUID_EXT_EST

As using "enforce" mode is the only way to ensure guest ABI doesn't
change when moving to a different host, we should make "enforce" mode
the default or at least encourage management software to always use it.
In turn, to make "enforce" usable, we need CPU models that work without
always requiring some features to be explicitly disabled. This patch
removes the above features from all CPU model definitions.
We won't need any machine-type compat code for those changes, because it
is impossible to have existing VMs with those features enabled.

KVM never supported the CPUID_ACPI flag, so it doesn't make sense to
have it enabled by default when KVM is enabled.
The motivation here is exactly the same we had for the MONITOR flag
(disabled by commit 136a7e9a85).
And like in the MONITOR flag case, we don't need machine-type compat code
because it is currently impossible to run a KVM VM with the ACPI flag set.

The x86_cpu_compat_disable_kvm_features() name was a bit confusing, as
it won't forcibly disable the feature for all CPU models (i.e. add it to
kvm_default_unset_features), but it will instead turn off the KVM
auto-enabling of the feature (i.e. remove it from kvm_default_features),
meaning the feature may still be enabled by default in some CPU models).

When the "migratable" property was implemented, the behavior was tested
by changing the default on the code, but actually using the option on
the command-line (e.g. "-cpu host,migratable=false") doesn't work as
expected. This is a regression for a common use case of "-cpu host",
which is to enable features that are supported by the host CPU + kernel
before feature-specific code is added to QEMU.
Fix this by initializing the feature words for "-cpu host" on
x86_cpu_parse_featurestr(), right after parsing the CPU options.

The SDM specifies (June 2014 Vol3 11.11.5):
On a hardware reset, the P6 and more recent processors clear the
valid flags in variable-range MTRRs and clear the E flag in the
IA32_MTRR_DEF_TYPE MSR to disable all MTRRs. All other bits in the
MTRRs are undefined.
We currently do none of that, so whatever MTRR settings you had prior
to reset is what you have after reset. Usually this doesn't matter
because KVM often ignores the guest mappings and uses write-back
anyway. However, if you have an assigned device and an IOMMU that
allows NoSnoop for that device, KVM defers to the guest memory
mappings which are now stale after reset. The result is that OVMF
rebooting on such a configuration takes a full minute to LZMA
decompress the firmware volume, a process that is nearly instant on
the initial boot.

The MTRR state in KVM currently runs completely independent of the
QEMU state in CPUX86State.mtrr_*. This means that on migration, the
target loses MTRR state from the source. Generally that's ok though
because KVM ignores it and maps everything as write-back anyway. The
exception to this rule is when we have an assigned device and an IOMMU
that doesn't promote NoSnoop transactions from that device to be cache
coherent. In that case KVM trusts the guest mapping of memory as
configured in the MTRR.
This patch updates kvm_get|put_msrs() so that we retrieve the actual
vCPU MTRR settings and therefore keep CPUX86State synchronized for
migration. kvm_put_msrs() is also used on vCPU reset and therefore
allows future modificaitons of MTRR state at reset to be realized.
Note that the entries array used by both functions was already
slightly undersized for holding every possible MSR, so this patch
increases it beyond the 28 new entries necessary for MTRR state.

Currently syscall instruction is buggy on user mode X86_64,
the EIP is updated after do_syscall(), that is too late for
clone(). Because clone() will create a thread at the env->EIP
(the address of syscall insn), and then child thread enters
do_syscall() again, that is not expected. Sometimes it is tragic.
User mode syscall insn emulation is not used MSR, so the
