Incoming enabled bitmaps are busy, because we do
bdrv_dirty_bitmap_create_successor() for them. But disabled bitmaps
being migrated are not marked busy, and user can remove them during the
incoming migration. Then we may crash in cancel_incoming_locked() when
try to remove the bitmap that was already removed by user, like this:

Note bs pointer taken from bitmap: it's definitely bad aligned. That's
because we are in use after free, bitmap is already freed.
So, let's make disabled bitmaps (being migrated) busy during incoming

The generic 'migrate_set_parameters' command handle all types of param.
Only the QMP commands were documented in the deprecations page, but the
rationale for deprecating applies equally to HMP, and the replacements
exist. Furthermore the HMP commands are just shims to the QMP commands,
so removing the latter breaks the former unless they get re-implemented.

If any error happens during multifd send thread creating (e.g. channel broke
because new domain is destroyed by the dst), multifd_tls_handshake_thread
may exit silently, leaving main migration thread hanging (ram_save_setup ->
multifd_send_sync_main -> qemu_sem_wait(&p->sem_sync)).
Fix that by adding error handling in multifd_tls_handshake_thread.

Bitmap's source persistence is transported over the migration stream and
the destination mirrors it. In some cases the destination might want to
persist bitmaps which are not persistent on the source (e.g. the result
of merging bitmaps from a number of layers on the source when migrating
into a squashed image) but currently it would need to create another set
of persistent bitmaps and merge them.
This patch adds a 'transform' property to the alias map which allows
overriding the persistence of migrated bitmaps both on the source and
destination sides.

Currently the alias mapping hash stores just strings of the target
objects internally. In further patches we'll be adding another member
which will need to be stored in the map so pass a copy of the whole
BitmapMigrationBitmapAlias QAPI struct into the map.

Postcopy may also be advised for dirty-bitmap migration only, in which
case the remote page size will not be available and we'll instead read
bogus data, blocking migration with a mismatch error if the VM uses
hugepages.

savevm, loadvm and delvm are some of the few HMP commands that have never
been converted to use QMP. The reasons for the lack of conversion are
that they blocked execution of the event thread, and the semantics
around choice of disks were ill-defined.
Despite this downside, however, libvirt and applications using libvirt
have used these commands for as long as QMP has existed, via the
"human-monitor-command" passthrough command. IOW, while it is clearly
desirable to be able to fix the problems, they are not a blocker to
all real world usage.
Meanwhile there is a need for other features which involve adding new
parameters to the commands. This is possible with HMP passthrough, but
it provides no reliable way for apps to introspect features, so using
QAPI modelling is highly desirable.
This patch thus introduces new snapshot-{load,save,delete} commands to
QMP that are intended to replace the old HMP counterparts. The new
commands are given different names, because they will be using the new
QEMU job framework and thus will have diverging behaviour from the HMP
originals. It would thus be misleading to keep the same name.
While this design uses the generic job framework, the current impl is
still blocking. The intention that the blocking problem is fixed later.
None the less applications using these new commands should assume that
they are asynchronous and thus wait for the job status change event to
indicate completion.
In addition to using the job framework, the new commands require the
caller to be explicit about all the block device nodes used in the
snapshot operations, with no built-in default heuristics in use.
Note that the existing "query-named-block-nodes" can be used to query
what snapshots currently exist for block nodes.

The traditional HMP "savevm" command will overwrite an existing snapshot
if it already exists with the requested name. This new flag allows this
to be controlled allowing for safer behaviour with a future QMP command.

Currently bdrv_all_find_snapshot() will return 0 if it finds
a snapshot, -1 if an error occurs, or if it fails to find a
snapshot. New callers to be added want to distinguish between
the error scenario and failing to find a snapshot.
Rename it to bdrv_all_has_snapshot and make it return -1 on
error, 0 if no snapshot is found and 1 if snapshot is found.

Currently the vmstate will be stored in the first block device that
supports snapshots. Historically this would have usually been the
root device, but with UEFI it might be the variable store. There
needs to be a way to override the choice of block device to store
the state in.

When running snapshot operations, there are various rules for which
blockdevs are included/excluded. While this provides reasonable default
behaviour, there are scenarios that are not well handled by the default
logic. Some of the conditions do not have a single correct answer.
Thus there needs to be a way for the mgmt app to provide an explicit
list of blockdevs to perform snapshots across. This can be achieved
by passing a list of node names that should be used.

The bdrv_all_*_snapshot functions return a BlockDriverState pointer
for the invalid backend, which the callers then use to report an
error message. In some cases multiple callers are reporting the
same error message, but with slightly different text. In the future
there will be more error scenarios for some of these methods, which
will benefit from fine grained error message reporting. So it is
helpful to push error reporting down a level.

parameter" (v2.11.0) made the new parameter unsigned (QAPI type

Introducing implementation of 'background' snapshot thread
which in overall follows the logic of precopy migration
while internally utilizes completely different mechanism
to 'freeze' vmstate at the start of snapshot creation.
This mechanism is based on userfault_fd with wr-protection
support and is Linux-specific.

In this particular implementation the same single migration
thread is responsible for both normal linear dirty page
migration and procesing UFFD page fault events.
Processing write faults includes reading UFFD file descriptor,
finding respective RAM block and saving faulting page to
the migration stream. After page has been saved, write protection
can be removed. Since asynchronous version of qemu_put_buffer()
is expected to be used to save pages, we also have to flush
migraion stream prior to un-protecting saved memory range.
Write protection is being removed for any previously protected
memory chunk that has hit the migration stream. That's valid
for pages from linear page scan along with write fault pages.

When VM migrate VMState of configuration, the fields(name and capabilities)
of configuration having a flag of VMS_ALLOC need to allocate memory. If the
src doesn't free memory of capabilities in SaveState after save VMState of
configuration, or the dst doesn't free memory of name and capabilities in post
load of configuration, it may result in memory leak of name and capabilities.
We free memory in configuration_post_save and configuration_post_load func,
which prevents memory leak.

Commit 8118f0950f "migration: Append JSON description of migration
stream" needs a JSON writer. The existing qobject_to_json() wasn't a
good fit, because it requires building a QObject to convert. Instead,
migration got its very own JSON writer, in commit 190c882ce2 "QJSON:
Add JSON writer". It tacitly limits numbers to int64_t, and strings
contents to characters that don't need escaping, unlike
qobject_to_json().
The previous commit factored the JSON writer out of qobject_to_json().
Replace migration's JSON writer by it.

Anywhere we create a list of just one item or by prepending items
(typically because order doesn't matter), we can use
QAPI_LIST_PREPEND(). But places where we must keep the list in order
by appending remain open-coded until later patches.
Note that as a side effect, this also performs a cleanup of two minor
issues in qga/commands-posix.c: the old code was performing
new = g_malloc0(sizeof(*ret));
which 1) is confusing because you have to verify whether 'new' and
'ret' are variables with the same type, and 2) would conflict with C++
compilation (not an actual problem for this file, but makes
copy-and-paste harder).

The following steps will cause qemu assertion failure:
- pause vm by executing 'virsh suspend'
- create external snapshot of memory and disk using 'virsh snapshot-create-as'
- doing the above operation again will cause qemu crash
The backtrace looks like:

When the first migration completes, bs->open_flags will set BDRV_O_INACTIVE
flag by bdrv_inactivate_all(), and during the second migration the
bdrv_inactivate_recurse assert that the bs->open_flags is already
BDRV_O_INACTIVE enabled which cause crash.
As Vladimir suggested, this patch makes migrate_prepare check the state of vm and
return error if it is in RUN_STATE_POSTMIGRATE state.

Make qemu_start_incoming_migration local to migration/migration.c.
By using the runstate instead of a separate flag, vl need not do
anything to setup deferred incoming migration.
qmp_migrate_incoming also does not need the deferred_incoming flag
anymore, because "-incoming PROTOCOL" will clear the "once" flag
before the main loop starts. Therefore, later invocations of
the migrate-incoming command will fail with the existing
"The incoming migration has already been started" error message.

The following sequence may cause the VM abort during migration:
1. RUN_STATE_RUNNING,MIGRATION_STATUS_ACTIVE
2. before call migration_completion(), we send migrate_cancel
QMP command, the state machine is changed to:
RUN_STATE_RUNNING,MIGRATION_STATUS_CANCELLING
3. call migration_completion(), and the state machine is
switch to: RUN_STATE_RUNNING,MIGRATION_STATUS_COMPLETED
4. call migration_iteration_finish(), because the migration
status is COMPLETED, so it will try to set the runstate
to POSTMIGRATE, but RUNNING-->POSTMIGRATE is an invalid
transition, so abort().
The migration_completion() should not change the migration state
to COMPLETED if it is already changed to CANCELLING.

When creating new tls client, the tioc->master will be referenced which results in socket
leaking after multifd_save_cleanup if we cancel migration.

After the WITH_QEMU_LOCK_GUARD macro is added, the compiler cannot identify
that the statements in the macro must be executed. As a result, some variables
assignment statements in the macro may be considered as unexecuted by the compiler.

The qemu main loop could hang up forever when we enable TLS+Multifd.
The Src multifd_send_0 invokes tls handshake, it sends hello to sever
and wait response.
However, the Dst main qemu loop has been waiting recvmsg() for multifd_recv_1.
Both of Src and Dst main qemu loop are blocking and waiting for reponse which
results in hanging up forever.

The new migrate_send_rp_req_pages_pending() call should greatly improve
destination responsiveness because it will resync faulted address after
postcopy recovery. However it is also the 1st place to initiate the page
request from the main thread.
One thing is overlooked on that migrate_send_rp_message_req_pages() is not
designed to be thread-safe. So if we wake the fault thread before syncing all
the faulted pages in the main thread, it means they can race.
Postpone the wake up operation after the sync of faulted addresses.

When postcopy recover happens, we need to reset last_rb after each return of
postcopy_pause_fault_thread() because that means we just got the postcopy
migration continued.
Unify this reset to the place right before we want to kick the fault thread
again, when we get the command MIG_CMD_POSTCOPY_RESUME from source.
This is actually more than that - because the main thread on destination will
now be able to call migrate_send_rp_req_pages_pending() too, so the fault
thread is not the only user of last_rb now. Move the reset earlier will allow
the first call to migrate_send_rp_req_pages_pending() to use the reset value
even if called from the main thread.
(NOTE: this is not a real fix to 0c26781c09 mentioned below, however it is just
a mark that when picking up 0c26781c09 we'd better have this one too; the real
fix will come later)

Here [1] could have released the just-installed recoverying channel. Then the
migration could hang without really resuming.
Instead, it should be very safe to release the fd before setting the state into
'postcopy-pause', because there's no reason for any other thread to touch it
during 'postcopy-active'.
Dave reported a very rare postcopy recovery hang that the migration-test
program waited for the migration to complete in migrate_postcopy_complete().
We do suspect it's the same thing that we're gonna fix here. Hard to tell.
However since we've noticed this, fix this irrelevant of the hang report.

We synchronize the requested pages right after a postcopy recovery happens.
This helps to synchronize the prioritized pages on source so that the faulted

Maintain a list of faulted addresses on the destination host for which we're
waiting on. This is implemented using a GTree rather than a real list to make
sure even there're plenty of vCPUs/threads that are faulting, the lookup will
still be fast with O(log(N)) (because we'll do that after placing each page).
It should bring a slight overhead, but ideally that shouldn't be a big problem
simply because in most cases the requested page list will be short.
Actually we did similar things for postcopy blocktime measurements. This patch
didn't use that simply because:
(1) blocktime measurement is towards vcpu threads only, but here we need to
record all faulted addresses, including main thread and external
thread (like, DPDK via vhost-user).
(2) blocktime measurement will require UFFD_FEATURE_THREAD_ID, but here we
don't want to add that extra dependency on the kernel version since not
necessary. E.g., we don't need to know which thread faulted on which
page, we also don't care about multiple threads faulting on the same
page. But we only care about what addresses are faulted so waiting for a
page copying from src.
(3) blocktime measurement is not enabled by default. However we need this by
default especially for postcopy recover.
Another thing to mention is that this patch introduced a new mutex to serialize
the receivedmap and the page_requested tree, however that serialization does
not cover other procedures like UFFDIO_COPY.

Commit ef96e3ae96 in January 2019 removed the last user of the
VMSTATE_FLOAT64* macros. These were used by targets which defined
their floating point register file as an array of 'float64'.
We used to try to maintain a stricter distinction between
'float64' (a type for holding an integer representing an IEEE float)
and 'uint64_t', including having a debug option for 'float64' being
a struct and supposedly mandatory macros for converting between
float64 and uint64_t. We no longer think that's a usefully
strong distinction to draw and we allow ourselves to freely
assume that float64 really is just a 64-bit integer type, so
for new targets we would simply recommend use of the uint64_t type
for a floating point register file. The float64 type remains
as a useful way of documenting in the type signature of helper
functions and the like that they expect to receive an IEEE float
from the TCG generated code rather than an arbitrary integer.
Since the VMSTATE_FLOAT64* macros have no remaining users and
we don't recommend new code uses them, delete them.

sectors_per_chunk is a 64 bit integer, but the calculation is done in 32
bits, leading to an overflow for coarse bitmap granularities.
If that results in the value 0, it leads to a hang where no progress is
made but send_bitmap_bits is constantly called with nr_sectors being 0.

cur_mon really needs to be coroutine-local as soon as we move monitor
command handlers to coroutines and let them yield. As a first step, just
remove all direct accesses to cur_mon so that we can implement this in
the getter function later.

Non-empty record/replay queue prevents saving and loading the VM state,
because it includes pending bottom halves and block coroutines.
But when the new VM state is loaded, we don't have to preserve the consistency
of the current state anymore. Therefore this patch just flushes the queue
allowing the coroutines to finish and removes checking for empty rr queue
for load_snapshot function.

Saving icount as a parameters of the snapshot allows navigation between
them in the execution replay scenario.
This information can be used for finding a specific snapshot for proceeding
the recorded execution to the specific moment of the time.
E.g., 'reverse step' action (introduced in one of the following patches)
needs to load the nearest snapshot which is prior to the current moment
of time.
This patch also updates snapshot test which verifies qemu monitor output.

max-bandwidth is set by default to 32 MiB/s (256 Mib/s)
since 2008 (5bb7910af0).
Most of the CPUs can dirty memory faster than that now,
and this is clearly a problem with POWER where the page
size is 64 kiB and not 4 KiB.

We duplicated the logic of maintaining the last_rb variable at both callers of
this function. Pass *rb pointer into the function so that we can avoid
duplicating the logic. Also, when we have the rb pointer, it's also easier to
remove the original 2nd & 4th parameters, because both of them (name of the
ramblock when needed, or the page size) can be fetched from the ramblock
pointer too.

clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type
pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a
compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file
that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file:

Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is
used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h
and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and
searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none.
This patch was generated using:

Some trace points are attributed to the wrong source file. Happens
when we neglect to update trace-events for code motion, or add events
in the wrong place, or misspell the file name.
Clean up with help of scripts/cleanup-trace-events.pl. Funnies
requiring manual post-processing:

* block.c and blockdev.c trace points are in block/trace-events.

Some typedefs and macros are defined after the type check macros.
This makes it difficult to automatically replace their
definitions with OBJECT_DECLARE_TYPE.
Patch generated using:

Currently, the only difference of tcp channel and unix channel in
migration/socket.c is the way to build SocketAddress, but socket_parse()
can handle these two types, so use it to instead of tcp_build_address()
and unix_build_address().
The socket-type channel can be further unified based on the up, this
would be helpful for us to add other socket-type channels.

This migration parameter allows mapping block node names and bitmap
names to aliases for the purpose of block dirty bitmap migration.
This way, management tools can use different node and bitmap names on
the source and destination and pass the mapping of how bitmaps are to be
transferred to qemu (on the source, the destination, or even both with
arbitrary aliases in the migration stream).
While touching this code, fix a bug where bitmap names longer than 255
bytes would fail an assertion in qemu_put_counted_string().

Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing
the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using
$(build_root)/$(<D).
In order to keep the include directives unchanged,
the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like
"trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree
such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h".
This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only
a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the
Meson rewrite of the tracing logic.

First, if only bitmaps postcopy is enabled (and not ram postcopy)
postcopy_pause_incoming crashes on an assertion
assert(mis->to_src_file).
And anyway, bitmaps postcopy is not prepared to be somehow recovered.
The original idea instead is that if bitmaps postcopy failed, we just
lose some bitmaps, which is not critical. So, on failure we just need
to remove unfinished bitmaps and guest should continue execution on
destination.

If target is turned off prior to postcopy finished, target crashes
because busy bitmaps are found at shutdown.
Canceling incoming migration helps, as it removes all unfinished (and
therefore busy) bitmaps.
Similarly on source we crash in bdrv_close_all which asserts that all
bdrv states are removed, because bdrv states involved into dirty bitmap
migration are referenced by it. So, we need to cancel outgoing
migration as well.

Bitmaps data is not critical, and we should not fail the migration (or
use postcopy recovering) because of dirty-bitmaps migration failure.
Instead we should just lose unfinished bitmaps.
Still we have to report io stream violation errors, as they affect the
whole migration stream.
While touching this, tighten code that was previously blindly calling
malloc on a size read from the migration stream, as a corrupted stream
(perhaps from a malicious user) should not be able to convince us to
allocate an inordinate amount of memory.

Keep bitmap state for disabled bitmaps too. Keep the state until the
end of the process. It's needed for the following commit to implement
bitmap postcopy canceling.
To clean-up the new list the following logic is used:
We need two events to consider bitmap migration finished:
1. chunk with DIRTY_BITMAP_MIG_FLAG_COMPLETE flag should be received
2. dirty_bitmap_mig_before_vm_start should be called
These two events may come in any order, so we understand which one is
last, and on the last of them we remove bitmap migration state from the
list.

bdrv_enable_dirty_bitmap_locked() call does nothing, as if we are in
postcopy, bitmap successor must be enabled, and reclaim operation will
enable the bitmap.
So, actually we need just call _reclaim_ in both if branches, and
making differences only to add an assertion seems not really good. The
logic becomes simple: on load complete we do reclaim and that's all.

move the vcpu throttling functionality into its own module.
This functionality is not specific to any accelerator,
and it is used currently by migration to slow down guests to try to
have migrations converge, and by the cocoa MacOS UI to throttle speed.
cpu-throttle contains the controls to adjust and inspect throttle
settings, start (set) and stop vcpu throttling, and the throttling
function itself that is run periodically on vcpus to make them take a nap.
Execution of the throttling function on all vcpus is triggered by a timer,
registered at module initialization.
No functionality change.

real_dirty_pages becomes equal to total ram size after dirty log sync
in ram_init_bitmaps, the reason is that the bitmap of ramblock is
initialized to be all set, so old path counts them as "real dirty" at
beginning.
This causes wrong dirty rate and false positive throttling.

RDMA will pin all guest memory (as documented in docs/rdma.txt). We want
to disable RAM block discards - however, to keep it simple use
ram_block_discard_is_required() instead of inhibiting.
Note: It is not sufficient to limit disabling to pin_all. Even when only
conditionally pinning 1 MB chunks, as soon as one page within such a
chunk was discarded and one page not, the discarded pages will be pinned
as well.

The only remaining special case is postcopy. It cannot handle
concurrent discards yet, which would result in requesting already sent
pages from the source. Special-case it in virtio-balloon instead.
Introduce migration_in_incoming_postcopy(), to find out if incoming
postcopy is active.

qemu_rdma_registration_stop() uses the ERROR() macro to create, report
to stderr, and store an Error object. The stored Error object is
never used, and its memory is leaked.
Even where ERROR() doesn't leak, it is ill-advised. The whole point
of passing an Error to the caller is letting the caller handle the
error. Error handling may report to stderr, to somewhere else, or not
at all. Also reporting in the callee mixes up concerns that should be
kept separate. Since I don't know what reporting to stderr is
supposed to accomplish, I'm not touching it.
Commit 2a1bc8bde7 "migration/rdma: rdma_accept_incoming_migration fix
error handling" plugged the same leak in
rdma_accept_incoming_migration().
Plug the memory leak the same way: keep the report part, delete the
store part.
The report part uses fprintf(). If it's truly an error, it should use
error_report() instead. But I don't know, so I leave it alone, just
like commit 2a1bc8bde7 did.

I'm not aware of any immediate bugs in qemu where a second runtime
evaluation of the arguments to MIN() or MAX() causes a problem, but
proactively preventing such abuse is easier than falling prey to an
unintended case down the road. At any rate, here's the conversation

Update the MIN/MAX macros to only evaluate their argument once at
runtime; this uses typeof(1 ? (a) : (b)) to ensure that we are
promoting the temporaries to the same type as the final comparison (we
have to trigger type promotion, as typeof(bitfield) won't compile; and
we can't use typeof((a) + (b)) or even typeof((a) + 0), as some of our
uses of MAX are on void* pointers where such addition is undefined).
However, we are unable to work around gcc refusing to compile ({}) in
a constant context (such as the array length of a static variable),
even when only used in the dead branch of a __builtin_choose_expr(),
so we have to provide a second macro pair MIN_CONST and MAX_CONST for
use when both arguments are known to be compile-time constants and
where the result must also be usable as a constant; this second form
evaluates arguments multiple times but that doesn't matter for
constants. By using a void expression as the expansion if a
non-constant is presented to this second form, we can enlist the
compiler to ensure the double evaluation is not attempted on
non-constants.
Alas, as both macros now rely on compiler intrinsics, they are no
longer usable in preprocessor #if conditions; those will just have to
be open-coded or the logic rewritten into #define or runtime 'if'
conditions (but where the compiler dead-code-elimination will probably
still apply).
I tested that both gcc 10.1.1 and clang 10.0.0 produce errors for all
forms of macro mis-use. As the errors can sometimes be cryptic, I'm
demonstrating the gcc output:

Fix the resulting callsites that used #if or computed a compile-time

that is a task for another day.

It's reported an error of implicit conversion from "unsigned long" to

multifd_send_pages() loops around the available channels,
the next channel to use between two calls to multifd_send_pages() is stored
inside a local static variable, next_channel.
It works well, except if the number of channels decreases between two calls
to multifd_send_pages(). In this case, the loop can try to access the
data of a channel that doesn't exist anymore.
The problem can be triggered if we start a migration with a given number of
channels and then we cancel the migration to restart it with a lower number.
This ends generally with an error like:
qemu-system-ppc64: .../util/qemu-thread-posix.c:77: qemu_mutex_lock_impl: Assertion `mutex->initialized' failed.
This patch fixes the error by capping next_channel with the current number
of channels before using it.

migration_rate_limit will erroneously ratelimit a shutdown socket,
which causes the migration thread to hang in ram_save_host_page
if the socket is shutdown.
Fix this by explicitly testing if the socket has errors or was
shutdown in migration_rate_limit.

If the secondary has to failover during checkpointing, it still is
in the old state (i.e. different state than primary). Thus we can't
expose the primary state until after the checkpoint is sent.
This fixes sporadic connection reset of client connections during
failover.

If vmstate_loading is true, secondary_vm_do_failover will set failover
status to FAILOVER_STATUS_RELAUNCH and return success without initiating
failover. However, if there is an error during the vmstate_loading
section, failover isn't relaunched. Instead we then wait for
failover on colo_incoming_sem.
Fix this by relaunching failover even if there was an error. Also,
to make this work properly, set vmstate_loading to false when
returning during the vmstate_loading section.

If we suceed in receiving ram state, but fail receiving the device
state, there will be a mismatch between the two.
Fix this by flushing the ram cache only after the vmstate has been
received.

cpu_synchronize_all_pre_loadvm() marks all vcpus as dirty, so the
registers are loaded from CPUState before we continue running
the vm. However if we failover during checkpoint, CPUState is not
initialized and the registers are loaded with garbage. This causes
guest hangs and crashes.
Fix this by using cpu_synchronize_all_states(), which initializes
CPUState from the current cpu registers additionally to marking
the vcpus as dirty.

If multiple packets miscompare in a short timeframe, the semaphore
value will be increased multiple times. This causes multiple
checkpoints even if one would be sufficient.
Fix this by using a event instead of a semaphore for triggering
checkpoints. Now, checkpoint requests will be ignored until the
checkpoint event is sent to colo-compare (which releases the
miscompared packets).
Benchmark results (iperf3):
Client-to-server tcp:
without patch: ~66 Mbit/s
with patch: ~61 Mbit/s
Server-to-client tcp:
without patch: ~702 Kbit/s
with patch: ~16 Mbit/s

Important thing for bitmap migration is to select destination block
node to obtain the migrated bitmap.
Prepatch, on source we use bdrv_get_device_or_node_name() to identify
the node, and on target we do bdrv_lookup_bs.
bdrv_get_device_or_node_name() returns blk name only for direct
children of blk. So, bitmaps of direct children of blks are migrated by
blk name and others - by node name.
Old libvirt is unprepared to bitmap migration by node-name,
node-names are mostly auto-generated. So actually only migration by blk
name works for it.
Newer libvirt will use new interface (which will be added soon) to
specify node-mapping for bitmaps migration explicitly. Still, let's
improve the current behavior a bit.
Now, consider classic libvirt migrations assisted by mirror block job:
mirror block job inserts filter, so our source is not a direct child of
blk, and bitmaps are migrated by node-names. And this just doesn't work
with auto-generated node names.
Let's fix it by using blk-name even if some implicit filters are
inserted.
Note2: we, of course, can't skip filters and use blk name to migrate
bitmaps in filtered node by blk name for this blk if these filters have
named bitmaps which should be migrated.

When error happen in multifd_send_thread, it use error_copy to set migrate error in
multifd_send_terminate_threads(). We should call error_free after it.

When error happen in multifd_new_send_channel_async, 'sioc' will not be used
to create the multifd_send_thread. Let's free it to avoid a memleak. And also

Fixup for context conflicts with 91ba442
At the tail stage of throttling, the Guest is very sensitive to
CPU percentage while the @cpu-throttle-increment is excessive
usually at tail stage.
If this parameter is true, we will compute the ideal CPU percentage
used by the Guest, which may exactly make the dirty rate match the
dirty rate threshold. Then we will choose a smaller throttle increment
between the one specified by @cpu-throttle-increment and the one
generated by ideal CPU percentage.
Therefore, it is compatible to traditional throttling, meanwhile
the throttle increment won't be excessive at tail stage. This may
make migration time longer, and is disabled by default.

The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a
pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the
latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call.
qmp_xen_colo_do_checkpoint() passes @errp first to
replication_do_checkpoint_all(), and then to
colo_notify_filters_event(). If both fail, this will trip the
assertion in error_setv().
Similar code in secondary_vm_do_failover() calls
colo_notify_filters_event() only after replication_do_checkpoint_all()
succeeded. Do the same here.

Migration parameter 'tls-authz' is used to provide the QOM ID
of a QAuthZ subclass instance that provides the access control
check, default is NULL. But the empty string is not a valid
object ID, so use "" instead of the default. Although it will
fail when lookup an object with ID "", it is harmless, just
consistent with tls_creds.
As a bonus, this patch also fixed the bad indentation on the
last line and removed 'has_tls_authz' redundant check in
'hmp_info_migrate_parameters'.

We will migrate parts of dirty pages backgroud lively during the gap time
of two checkpoints, without this modification, it will not work
because ram_save_iterate() will check it before send RAM_SAVE_FLAG_EOS

This patch will reduce the downtime of VM for the initial process,
Previously, we copied all these memory in preparing stage of COLO
while we need to stop VM, which is a time-consuming process.
Here we optimize it by a trick, back-up every page while in migration
process while COLO is enabled, though it affects the speed of the
migration, but it obviously reduce the downtime of back-up all SVM'S
memory in COLO preparing stage.

Currently, if the bytes_dirty_period is more than the 50% of
bytes_xfer_period, we start or increase throttling.
If we make this percentage higher, then we can tolerate higher
dirty rate during migration, which means less impact on guest.
The side effect of higher percentage is longer migration time.
We can make this parameter configurable to switch between mig-
ration time first or guest performance first.
The default value is 50 and valid range is 1 to 100.

This commit "migration: Create migration_is_running()" broke
COLO. Becuase there is a process broken by this commit.

It can be fixed by make COLO process as an exception,
Maybe we need a better way to fix it.

Both <linux/fs.h> and <sys/mount.h> define BLOCK_SIZE macros. Avoiding
using that name in block/migration.c.
I noticed this when including <liburing.h> (Linux io_uring) from
"block/aio.h" and compilation failed. Although patches adding that
include haven't been sent yet, it makes sense to rename the macro now in
case someone else stumbles on it in the meantime.

Rename multifd-method to multifd-compression
rdma_accept_incoming_migration is called from an fd handler and
can't return an Error * anywhere.
Currently it's leaking Error's in errp/local_err - there's
no point putting them in there unless we can report them.
Turn most into fprintf's, and the last into an error_reportf_err
where it's coming up from another function.

qemu_savevm_nr_failover_devices() is originally designed to
get the number of failover devices, but it actually returns
the number of "unplug-pending" failover devices now. Moreover,
what drives migration state to wait-unplug should be the number
of "unplug-pending" failover devices, not all failover devices.
We can also notice that qemu_savevm_state_guest_unplug_pending()
and qemu_savevm_nr_failover_devices() is equivalent almost (from
the code view). So the latter is incorrect semantically and
useless, just delete it.
In the qemu_savevm_state_guest_unplug_pending(), once hit a
unplug-pending failover device, then it can return true right
now to save cpu time.

If the migration is cancelled when it is in the completion phase,
the migration state is set to MIGRATION_STATUS_CANCELLING.
The VM maybe wait for the 'pause_sem' semaphore in migration_maybe_pause
function, so that VM always is paused.

If the multifd_send_threads is not created when migration is failed,
multifd_save_cleanup would be called twice. In this senario, the

Support QLIST migration using the same principle as QTAILQ:
94869d5c52 ("migration: migrate QTAILQ").
The VMSTATE_QLIST_V macro has the same proto as VMSTATE_QTAILQ_V.
The change mainly resides in QLIST RAW macros: QLIST_RAW_INSERT_HEAD
and QLIST_RAW_REVERSE.

It was always used as 32bit, so define it as used to be clear.
Instead of using -1 as the auto-gen magic value, we switch to
UINT32_MAX. We also make sure that we don't auto-gen this value to
avoid overflowed instance IDs without being noticed.

Define the new macro VMSTATE_INSTANCE_ID_ANY for callers who wants to
auto-generate the vmstate instance ID. Previously it was hard coded
as -1 instead of this macro. It helps to change this default value in
the follow up patches. No functional change.

One multifd will lock all the other multifds' IOChannel mutex to inform them
to quit by setting p->quit or shutting down p->c. In this senario, if some
multifds had already been terminated and multifd_load_cleanup/multifd_save_cleanup
had destroyed their mutex, it could cause destroyed mutex access when trying
lock their mutex.

One multifd channel will shutdown all the other multifd's IOChannel when it
fails to receive an IOChannel. In this senario, if some multifds had not

This is a preparation for the next patch:
not use multifd during postcopy.
Without enabling postcopy, everything looks good. While after enabling
postcopy, migration may fail even not use multifd during postcopy. The
reason is the pages is not properly cleared and *old* target page will
continue to be transferred.
After clean pages, migration succeeds.

postcopy requires to place a whole host page, while migration thread
migrate memory in target page size. This makes postcopy need to collect
all target pages in one host page before placing via userfaultfd.
To enable compress during postcopy, there are two problems to solve:
1. Random order for target page arrival
2. Target pages in one host page arrives without interrupt by target
page from other host page
The first one is handled by previous cleanup patch.
This patch handles the second one by:
1. Flush compress thread for each host page
2. Wait for decompress thread for before placing host page

In postcopy, it requires to place whole host page instead of target
page.
Currently, it relies on the page offset to decide whether this is the
last target page. We also can count the target page number during the
iteration. When the number of target page equals
(host page size / target page size), this means it is the last target
page in the host page.
This is a preparation for non-ordered target page transmission.

Usually, incoming migration coroutine yields to the main loop
while its IO-channel is waiting for data to receive. But there is a case
when RAM migration and data receive have the same speed: VM with huge
zeroed RAM. In this case, IO-channel won't read and thus the main loop
is stuck and for instance, it doesn't respond to QMP commands.
For this case, yield periodically, but not too often, so as not to
affect the speed of migration.

savevm_state's SaveStateEntry TAILQ is a priority queue. Priority
sorting is maintained by searching from head to tail for a suitable
insertion spot. Insertion is thus an O(n) operation.
If we instead keep track of the head of each priority's subqueue
within that larger queue we can reduce this operation to O(1) time.
savevm_state_handler_remove() becomes slightly more complex to
accomodate these gains: we need to replace the head of a priority's
subqueue when removing it.
With O(1) insertion, booting VMs with many SaveStateEntry objects is
more plausible. For example, a ppc64 VM with maxmem=8T has 40000 such
objects to insert.

Create a function to abstract common logic needed when removing a
SaveStateEntry element from the savevm_state.handlers queue.
For now we just remove the element. Soon it will involve additional
cleanup.

Clang does not like qmp_migrate_set_downtime()'s code to clamp double
@value to 0..INT64_MAX:

The warning will be enabled by default in clang 10. It is not
available for clang <= 9.
The clamp is actually useless; @value is checked to be within
0..MAX_MIGRATE_DOWNTIME_SECONDS immediately before. Delete it.
While there, make the conversion from double to int64_t explicit.

When using hugepages, rate limiting is necessary within each huge
page, since a 1G huge page can take a significant time to send, so
you end up with bursty behaviour.

ram_save_queue_pages() has an 'err' label that can be replaced by
'return -1' instead.
Same thing with ram_discard_range(), and in this case we can also
get rid of the 'ret' variable and return either '-1' on error
or the result of ram_block_discard_range().

.dev_unplug_pending is set up by virtio-net code indepent of failover
support was set for the device or not. This gives a wrong result when
we check for existing primary devices in migration code.
Fix this by actually calling dev_unplug_pending() instead of just
checking if the function pointer was set. When the feature was not
negotiated dev_unplug_pending() will always return false. This prevents
us from going into the wait-unplug state when there's no primary device
present.

This patch adds a new migration state called wait-unplug. It is entered
after the SETUP state if failover devices are present. It will transition
into ACTIVE once all devices were succesfully unplugged from the guest.
So if a guest doesn't respond or takes long to honor the unplug request
the user will see the migration state 'wait-unplug'.
In the migration thread we query failover devices if they're are still
pending the guest unplug. When all are unplugged the migration
continues. If one device won't unplug migration will stay in wait_unplug
state.

There are three page size in qemu:
real host page size
host page size
target page size
All of them have dedicate variable to represent. For the last two, we
use the same form in the whole qemu project, while for the first one we
use two forms: qemu_real_host_page_size and getpagesize().
qemu_real_host_page_size is defined to be a replacement of
getpagesize(), so let it serve the role.
[Note] Not fully tested for some arch or device.

Introduce support for GTree migration. A custom save/restore
is implemented. Each item is made of a key and a data.
If the key is a pointer to an object, 2 VMSDs are passed into
the GTree VMStateField.
When putting the items, the tree is traversed in sorted order by
g_tree_foreach.
On the get() path, gtrees must be allocated using the proper
key compare, key destroy and value destroy. This must be handled
beforehand, for example in a pre_load method.
Tests are added to test save/dump of structs containing gtrees
including the virtio-iommu domain/mappings scenario.

multifd_send_fill_packet() prepares meta data for following pages to

Currently, we set PostcopyState blindly to RUNNING, even we found the
previous state is not LISTENING. This will lead to a corner case.
First let's look at the code flow:
qemu_loadvm_state_main()
ret = loadvm_process_command()
loadvm_postcopy_handle_run()
return -1;
if (ret < 0) {
if (postcopy_state_get() == POSTCOPY_INCOMING_RUNNING)
...
}
>From above snippet, the corner case is loadvm_postcopy_handle_run()
always sets state to RUNNING. And then it checks the previous state. If
the previous state is not LISTENING, it will return -1. But at this
moment, PostcopyState is already been set to RUNNING.
Then ret is checked in qemu_loadvm_state_main(), when it is -1
PostcopyState is checked. Current logic would pause postcopy and retry
if PostcopyState is RUNNING. This is not what we expect, because
postcopy is not active yet.
This patch makes sure state is set to RUNNING only previous state is
LISTENING by checking the state first.

There are two places to call function postcopy_ram_incoming_cleanup()
postcopy_ram_listen_thread on migration success
loadvm_postcopy_handle_listen one setup failure
On success, the vm will never accept another migration. On failure,
PostcopyState is transited from LISTENING to END and would be checked in
qemu_loadvm_state_main(). If PostcopyState is RUNNING, migration would
be paused and retried.
Currently PostcopyState is set to END in function
postcopy_ram_incoming_cleanup(). With above analysis, we can take this
step out and postpone this till the end of listen thread to indicate the
listen thread is done.
This is a preparation patch for later cleanup.

Fixed up in merge to the 1 parameter postcopy_state_set
If mis->have_listen_thread is true, this means current PostcopyState
must be LISTENING or RUNNING. While the check at the beginning of the
function makes sure the state transaction happens when its previous
PostcopyState is ADVISE or DISCARD.
This means we would never touch this check.

During migration, a tmp page is allocated so that we could place a whole
host page during postcopy.
Currently the page is allocated during load stage, this is a little bit
late. And more important, if we failed to allocate it, the error is not
checked properly. Even it is NULL, we would still use it.
This patch moves the allocation to setup stage and if failed error
message would be printed and caller would notice it.

In normal precopy we can't do reconnection recovery - but we also
don't need to, since you can just rerun migration.
At the moment if the 'return-path' capability is on, we use
the return path in precopy to give a positive 'OK' to the end
of migration; however if migration fails then we fall into
the postcopy recovery path and hang. This fixes it by only
running the return path in the postcopy case.

Various parts of the migration code do different things when they're
in postcopy mode; prior to this patch this has been 'postcopy-active'.
This patch extends 'in_postcopy' to include 'postcopy-paused' and
'postcopy-recover'.
In particular, when you set the max-postcopy-bandwidth parameter, this
only affects the current migration fd if we're 'in_postcopy';
this leads to a race in the postcopy recovery test where it increases
the speed from 4k/sec to unlimited, but that increase can get ignored
if the change is made between the point at which the reconnection
happens and it transitions back to active.

This fixes a deadlock that can occur on the migration source after
a failed RDMA migration; as the source tries to cleanup it
clears a pair of pointers and uses synchronize_rcu to wait; this
is happening on the main thread. With the CPUs running
a CPU thread can be an rcu reader and attempt to grab the main lock
(kvm_handle_io->address_space_write->flatview_write->flatview_write_continue->
prepare_mmio_access->qemu_mutex_lock_iothread_impl)
Replace the synchronize_rcu with a call_rcu to postpone the freeing.

All pages, either partially sent or partially dirty, will be discarded in
postcopy_send_discard_bm_ram(), since we update the unsentmap to be
unsentmap = unsentmap | dirty in ram_postcopy_send_discard_bitmap().
This is not necessary to do discard when canonicalizing bitmap. And by
doing so, we separate the page discard into two individual steps:
* canonicalize bitmap
* discard page

In add_to_iovec(), qemu_fflush() will be called if iovec is full. If
this happens, buf_index is reset. Currently, this is not checked and
buf_index would always been adjust with buf size.
This is not harmful, but will waste some space in file buffer.
This patch make add_to_iovec() return 1 when it has flushed the file.
Then the caller could check the return value to see whether it is
necessary to adjust the buf_index any more.

The check of writev_buffer is in qemu_fflush, which means it is not
harmful if it is NULL.
And removing it will make the code consistent since all other
add_to_iovec() is called without the check.

We've got max-postcopy-bandwidth parameter but it's not applied
correctly after a postcopy recovery so the recovered migration stream
will still eat the whole net bandwidth. Fix that up.

During migration, there are several places to iterate on
savevm.handlers. And on each iteration, we need to check its ops and
related callbacks before invoke it.
Generally, ops is the first element to check, and it is only necessary
to check it once.
This patch clean all the related part in savevm.c to check ops only once
in those iterations.

When encounter error, multifd_send_thread should always notify who pay
attention to it before exit. Otherwise it may block migration_thread
at multifd_send_sync_main forever.

There is a race between TCG and accesses to the dirty log:
vCPU thread reader thread
----------------------- -----------------------
TLB check -> slow path
notdirty_mem_write
write to RAM
set dirty flag
clear dirty flag
TLB check -> fast path
read memory
write to RAM
Fortunately, in order to fix it, no change is required to the
vCPU thread. However, the reader thread must delay the read after
the vCPU thread has finished the write. This can be approximated
conservatively by run_on_cpu, which waits for the end of the current
translation block.
A similar technique is used by KVM, which has to do a synchronous TLB
flush after doing a test-and-clear of the dirty-page flags.

It is used to do transactional movement of the bitmap (which is
possible in conjunction with merge command). Transactional bitmap
movement is needed in scenarios with external snapshot, when we don't
want to leave copy of the bitmap in the base image.

Add a public interface for get. While we're at it,
rename "bdrv_get_dirty_bitmap_locked" to "bdrv_dirty_bitmap_get_locked".
(There are more functions to rename to the bdrv_dirty_bitmap_VERB form,
but they will wait until the conclusion of this series.)
