A performance optimization, inspired by a conversation with Thor Simon:
...
- Keep a freelist of component buffer headers, defaulting
to 8 headers per component (tunable with the CCDNBUF
kernel compile option).
- When allocating a component buffer, try to pull a header
off the freelist first, falling back on MALLOC() if the
freelist is empty. Use MALLOC() rather than malloc(),
because it will attempt to short-cut the allocation before
actually making a full-blown malloc() call.
- Keep statistics on how many component buffer headers have
been allocated and how many of those allocations have
resulted in freelist misses.
With these changes, I observed measurable decreases in system and
wall clock time on operations on an 8G ccd, as well as a measurable
drop in the time spent in ccdbuffer() (measured with kernel profiling).

Change file system file-open semantics slightly: if file system returns
...
EINVAL, that error code is ignored, leaving whatever other meaningful
error code that might have previously been returned intact. Stand-alone
file system implementations return EINVAL typically when the file system
is not recognized (i.e. cd9660_open on a UFS file system, ufs_open on a
cd9660 file system, etc.). This meant that if you had multiple file
systems in a file system switch, the first returned ENOENT (because
it recognized the file system type, but the file wasn't there) and
the second returned EINVAL (because it didn't recognize the file system
type), errno would be set to EINVAL. Now it'll be set to ENOENT.
It would probably make sense to have file systems return a special
error code to indicate "this file system is unrecognized," which
could then be special-cased, but that's a fair bit more invasive.

for kernel-internals gunk. Now libsa can include iso.h without the nasty
hack that was there before.
Also, clean up the isonum_* definitions so that the #ifdefs aren't
impossibly spread apart. (Now the #ifdefs are _in_ the functions. This
leads to #ifdefs that are only a few lines long, rather than a few _pages_
long, as well as a reduction of duplication of function headers, etc.)
Note that isonum_7{21,22,31,32} are currently missing.

The sfb driver uses the device data, so more than a "struct device" is

needed. When sfbattach() initializes the fbinfo data, it was corrupting
data past the struct device data actually allocated. This does not appear
to have caused a problem in the past, but causes a problem with the new

Add RTC_OFFSET option
Add global kernel variable rtc_offset, which is initialized by
RTC_OFFSET at kernel compile time.
on i386, x68k, mac68k, pc532 and arm32, RTC_OFFSET indicates how many
minutes west (east) of GMT the hardware RTC runs. Defaults to 0.
Places where tz variable was used to indicate this in the past have
been replaced with rtc_offset.
Add sysctl interface to rtc_offset.
Kill obsolete DST_* macros in sys/time.h
gettimeofday now always returns zeroed timezone if zone is requested.
settimeofday now ignores and logs attempts to set non-existant kernel
timezone.

it needs to be declared `volatile'
- CountADBs() fails when we call it the second time. We can work
around this by telling extdms_init() how many ADB devices we have,

Tekram DC390W/U/F, whose config EEPROM can now be dumped, if the kernel

- remove unused NCB structure element ns_async
- support sync. SCSI offset of 16 (instead of only 8) on 825A and 875

- remove (already disabled) support for NCR reset because of command timeout
- reverse order of reading of SCSI and DMA specific interrupt cause registers

Use only FC $1 in TT0 in get_pte(), and map the entire address space. We

the MOVES instruction. This should resolve the problem on the Duo 2x0
series with hard hangs in this function.

- Adjust to combined initenv()/genenvvars() (the latter has assimilated
the former).
- Add a function code argument to ptest040().
- Use symbolic constants from assym.h where appropriate (and defined).
- Some style cleanup.

Bring some sanity into my frazzled existence:

- Always ensure that RAW_PART ("c") can be opened.
- Disallow unused or non-existent partitions from being opened.
- Don't do bounds checking or partition translation on RAW_PART.
This is consistent with other disk drivers in the NetBSD source tree,
and fixes a condition where the user could not fix a corrupted disklabel
due to a bogus offset for partition "c".
