Allow using the buildoptions.json file for more options, namely anything
that is not a boolean or multiple-choice.
The mapping between configure and meson is messy for string options,
so allow configure to use to something other than the name in
meson_options.txt. This will come in handy anyway for builtin
Meson options such as b_lto or b_coverage.

generalised png option in the meson build which is aimed to replace use of

Now that we are fully switched over to the new QMP library, move it back
over the old namespace. This is being done primarily so that we may
upload this package simply as "qemu.qmp" without introducing confusion
over whether or not "aqmp" is a new protocol or not.
The trade-off is increased confusion inside the QEMU developer
tree. Sorry!
Note: the 'private' member "_aqmp" in legacy.py also changes to "_qmp";
not out of necessity, but just to remove any traces of the "aqmp"
name.

Replace the global variables with inlined helper functions. getpagesize() is very
likely annotated with a "const" function attribute (at least with glibc), and thus
optimization should apply even better.
This avoids the need for a constructor initialization too.

In lttng-ust commit 41858e2b6e8 ("Fix: don't do macro expansion in
tracepoint file name") from 2012, starting from lttng-ust 2.1, the API
was changed to expect TRACEPOINT_INCLUDE to be defined as a string.
In lttng-ust commit d2966b4b0b2 ("Remove TRACEPOINT_INCLUDE_FILE
macro"), in 2021, the compatibility macro was removed.
Use the "new" API from 2012, and bump the version requirement to 2.1 to
fix compilation with >= 2.13.
According to repology, all distributions we support have >= 2.1 (centos
8 has oldest with 2.8.1 afaict)

With the command line flag -mplt and a recent toolchain, ELF binaries
generated by gcc can obtain EI_ABIVERSION=1, which makes, e.g., gcc
three-stage bootstrap in a mips-unknown-linux-gnu qemu-user chroot
fail since the binfmt-misc magic does not match anymore. Also other
values are technically possible. qemu executes these binaries just
fine, so relax the mask for the EI_ABIVERSION byte at offset 0x08.
In addition, extend magic string to distinguish mips o32 and n32 ABI.
This information is given by the EF_MIPS_ABI2 (0x20) bit in the
e_flags field of the ELF header (a 4-byte value at offset 0x24 for
the here applicable ELFCLASS32).

If there is a failing iotest, the output is currently not logged to
the console anymore. To get this working again, we need to run the
meson test runner with "--print-errorlogs" (and without "--verbose"
due to a current meson bug that will be fixed here:
https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/commit/c3f145ca2b9f5.patch ).
We could update the "meson test" call in tests/Makefile.include,
but actually it's nicer and easier if we simply do not treat the
iotests as separate test target anymore and integrate them along
with the other test suites. This has the disadvantage of not getting
the detailed progress indication there anymore, but since that was
only working right in single-threaded "make -j1" mode anyway, it's
not a huge loss right now.

We use the nsis.py script to write out an installer script Section
for each emulator executable, so the exact set of Sections depends on
which executables were built. However the part of qemu.nsi which
specifies mouse-over descriptions for each Section still has a
hard-coded and very outdated list (with just i386 and alpha). This
causes two problems. Firstly, if you build the installer for a
configuration where you didn't build the i386 binaries you get
warnings like this:
warning 6000: unknown variable/constant "{Section_i386}" detected, ignoring (macro:_==:1)
warning 6000: unknown variable/constant "{Section_i386w}" detected, ignoring (macro:_==:1)
(this happens in our gitlab CI jobs, for instance).
Secondly, most of the emulators in the generated installer don't have
any mouseover text.
Make nsis.py generate a second output file which has the necessary
MUI_DESCRIPTION_TEXT lines for each Section it creates, so we can
include that at the right point in qemu.nsi to set the mouse-over
text.

We currently list the emulators in the Windows installer's dialog
in an essentially random order (it's whatever glob.glob() returns
them to, which is filesystem-implementation-dependent). Add a
call to sorted() so they appear in alphabetical order.

At least the current crop of Aarch64 HW can support running 32 bit EL0
code. Before we can build and test we need a minimal set of packages
installed. We can't use "apt build-dep" because it currently gets
confused trying to keep two sets of build-deps installed at once.
Instead we install a minimal set of libraries that will allow us to
continue.

With the current 'qmp-shell' tool developers must first spawn QEMU with
a suitable -qmp arg and then spawn qmp-shell in a separate terminal
pointing to the right socket.
With 'qmp-shell-wrap' developers can ignore QMP sockets entirely and
just pass the QEMU command and arguments they want. The program will
listen on a UNIX socket and tell QEMU to connect QMP to that.
For example, this:
# qmp-shell-wrap -- qemu-system-x86_64 -display none
Is roughly equivalent of running:
# qemu-system-x86_64 -display none -qmp qmp-shell-1234 &
# qmp-shell qmp-shell-1234
Except that 'qmp-shell-wrap' switches the socket peers around so that
it is the UNIX socket server and QEMU is the socket client. This makes
QEMU reliably go away when qmp-shell-wrap exits, closing the server
socket.

The VSS headers are part of standard MS VS SDK, at least since version
15, and probably before that.
They are also included with MinGW, although currently broken.
Let's streamline a bit the options, by not making it so special, and
instead rely on proper system headers configuration or user
--extra-cxxflags. This still requires some extra step to cross-build
with MinGW as described in the meson.build file now.

The test is a bit different from the others, in that it does not run
if $membarrier is empty. For meson, the default can simply be disabled;
if one day we will toggle the default, no change is needed in meson.build.

Now we have no TCG trace events and no longer handle them in the code
we can remove the handling from the tracetool to generate them. vcpu
tracing is still available although the existing syscall event is an
exercise in redundancy (plugins and -strace can also get the
information).

For a long time, we assumed that libxml2 is necessary for parallels
block format support (block/parallels*). However, this format actually
does not use libxml [*]. Since this is the only user of libxml2 in
whole QEMU tree, we can drop all libxml2 checks and dependencies too.
It is even more: --enable-parallels configure option was the only
option which was silently ignored when it's (fake) dependency
(libxml2) isn't installed.
Drop all mentions of libxml2.

ed279a06c5 ("configure: add dependency") but the implementation

"meson test" can be asked to run tests verbosely; this makes it usable
also for qemu-iotests's own harness, and it lets "make check-block"
reuse mtest2make.py's infrastructure to find and build test dependencies.
Adjust check-block.sh to use the standard exit code that reports a test
as skipped. Alternatively, in the future we could make it produce TAP
output, which is consistent with all other "make check" tests.

We don't generate trace events for tests/ and qga/ because that it is
not simple and not necessary. We have corresponding comments in both
tests/meson.build and qga/meson.build.
Still to not miss possible future qapi code generation call, and not to
forget to enable trace events generation, let's enable it by default.
So, turn option --gen-trace into opposite --no-trace-events and use new
option only in tests/ and qga/ where we already have good comments why
we don't generate trace events code.
Note that this commit enables trace-events generation for qapi-gen.py
call from tests/qapi-schema/meson.build and storage-daemon/meson.build.
Still, both are kind of noop: tests/qapi-schema/ doesn't seem to
generate any QMP command code and no .trace-events files anyway,
storage-daemon/ uses common QMP command implementations and just
generate empty .trace-events

Add trace generation disabled by default and new option --gen-trace to
enable it. The next commit will enable it for qapi/, but not for qga/
and tests/. Making it work for the latter two would involve some Meson
hackery to ensure we generate the trace-events files before trace-tool
uses them. Since we don't actually support tracing there, we'll bypass
that problem.

We are going to generate trace events for QMP commands. We should
generate both trace_*() function calls and trace-events files listing
events for trace generator.
So, add an output module FOO.trace-events for each FOO schema module.
Since we're going to add trace events only to command marshallers,
make the trace-events output optional, so we don't generate so many
useless empty files.
Currently nobody set add_trace_events to True, so new functionality is
disabled. It will be enabled for QAPISchemaGenCommandVisitor
in a further commit.

In order to upload a QMP package to PyPI, I want to remove any scripts
that I am not 100% confident I want to support upstream, beyond our
castle walls.
Move most of our QMP utilities into the utils package so we can split
them out from the PyPI upload.

First, this permission never protected a node from being changed, as
generic child-replacing functions don't check it.
Second, it's a strange thing: it presents a permission of parent node
to change its child. But generally, children are replaced by different
mechanisms, like jobs or qmp commands, not by nodes.
Graph-mod permission is hard to understand. All other permissions
describe operations which done by parent node on its child: read,
write, resize. Graph modification operations are something completely
different.
The only place where BLK_PERM_GRAPH_MOD is used as "perm" (not shared
perm) is mirror_start_job, for s->target. Still modern code should use
bdrv_freeze_backing_chain() to protect from graph modification, if we
don't do it somewhere it may be considered as a bug. So, it's a bit
risky to drop GRAPH_MOD, and analyzing of possible loss of protection
is hard. But one day we should do it, let's do it now.
One more bit of information is that locking the corresponding byte in
file-posix doesn't make sense at all.

Always include the STRIP variable in config-host.mak (it's only used
by the s390-ccw firmware build, and it adds a default if configure
omitted it), and use meson-buildoptions.sh to turn
--enable/--disable-strip into -Dstrip.
The default is now not to strip the binaries like for almost every other
package that has a configure script.

The handling for the XFS_IOC_DIOINFO ioctl is currently quite excessive:
This is not a "real" feature like the other features that we provide with
the "--enable-xxx" and "--disable-xxx" switches for the configure script,
since this does not influence lots of code (it's only about one call to
xfsctl() in file-posix.c), so people don't gain much with the ability to
disable this with "--disable-xfsctl".
It's also unfortunate that the ioctl will be disabled on Linux in case
the user did not install the right xfsprogs-devel package before running
configure. Thus let's simplify this by providing the ioctl definition
on our own, so we can completely get rid of the header dependency and
thus the related code in the configure script.

"meson test" starting with version 0.57 is just as capable and easy to
use as QEMU's own TAP driver. All existing options for "make check"
work. The only required code change involves how to mark "slow" tests;
they need to belong to an additional "slow" suite.
The rules for .tap output are replaced by JUnit XML; GitLab is able
to parse that output and present it in the CI pipeline report.

The "dbus" display backend exports the QEMU consoles and other
UI-related interfaces over D-Bus.
By default, the connection is established on the session bus, but you
can specify a different bus with the "addr" option.
The backend takes the "org.qemu" service name, while still allowing
further instances to queue on the same name (so you can lookup all the
available instances too). It accepts any number of clients at this
point, although this is expected to evolve with options to restrict
clients, or only accept p2p via fd passing.
The interface is intentionally very close to the internal QEMU API,
and can be introspected or interacted with busctl/dfeet etc:

g_memdup() is insecure and as been deprecated in GLib 2.68.
QEMU provides the safely equivalent g_memdup2() wrapper.
Do not allow more g_memdup() calls in the repository, provide
a hint to use g_memdup2().

Despite all the previous fixes, it's still possible for
device-crash-test to wedge itself in the case that QEMU terminates *so
quickly* that it doesn't even begin a connection attempt to our QMP
client. Python will just joyfully wait ad infinitum for a connection
that will now never arrive.
The real fix is to use asyncio to simultaneously poll both the health of
the launched process AND the connection attempt. That's quite a bit more
invasive than just setting a connection timeout, though.
Do the very simplest thing for now.

There is already an entry for this kind of messages earlier in the
ERROR_RULE_LIST - when I added this patch, I just got fooled by
the other errors that occur due to a race between QMP connection
and QEMU terminating early (which still spit out the 'No bus found'
messages in their backtrace), but these other problems have now
fortunately been tackled by John Snow, so we certainly don't need
this duplicated entry here anymore.

Generally, the traceback for a connection failure is uninteresting and
all we need to know is that the connection attempt failed.
Reduce the verbosity in these cases, except when debugging.

We don't need to handle KeyboardInterruptError specifically; we can
instead tighten the scope of the broad Exception handlers to only catch
"Exception", which has the effect of allowing all BaseException classes
that do not inherit from Exception to be raised through.
KeyboardInterruptError and a few other important ones are
BaseExceptions, so this does the same thing with less code.

This introduces three different parts of a job designed to run
on a custom runner managed by Red Hat. The goals include:
a) propose a model for other organizations that want to onboard
their own runners, with their specific platforms, build
configuration and tests.
b) bring awareness to the differences between upstream QEMU and the
version available under CentOS Stream, which is "A preview of
upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux minor and major releases".
c) because of b), it should be easier to identify and reduce the gap
between Red Hat's downstream and upstream QEMU.
The components of this custom job are:
I) OS build environment setup code:
- additions to the existing "build-environment.yml" playbook
that can be used to set up CentOS/EL 8 systems.
- a CentOS Stream 8 specific "build-environment.yml" playbook
that adds to the generic one.
II) QEMU build configuration: a script that will produce binaries with
features as similar as possible to the ones built and packaged on
CentOS stream 8.
III) Scripts that define the minimum amount of testing that the
binaries built with the given configuration (point II) under the
given OS build environment (point I) should be subjected to.
IV) Job definition: GitLab CI jobs that will dispatch the build/test
jobs (see points #II and #III) to the machine specifically
configured according to #I.

Under SELinux, Unix domain sockets have two labels. One is on the
disk and can be set with commands such as chcon(1). There is a
different label stored in memory (called the process label). This can
only be set by the process creating the socket. When using SELinux +
SVirt and wanting qemu to be able to connect to a qemu-nbd instance,
you must set both labels correctly first.
For qemu-nbd the options to set the second label are awkward. You can
create the socket in a wrapper program and then exec into qemu-nbd.
Or you could try something with LD_PRELOAD.
This commit adds the ability to set the label straightforwardly on the
command line, via the new --selinux-label flag. (The name of the flag
is the same as the equivalent nbdkit option.)
