056f49ff2c monitor: Cleanup mon->outbuf on write error
In case monitor_flush() fails to write the contents of mon->outbuf to
the output device, mon->outbuf is not cleaned up properly. Check the
return code of the qemu_chr_fe_write() function and cleanup the outbuf
if it fails.

0150cd81cf readline: move readline to a generic location
Now that the monitor and readline are decoupled, readline.h no longer
belongs in include/monitor/. Put the header into include/qemu/.

Move the source file into util/ so it can be linked as part of
libqemuutil.a.

c60bf3391b readline: decouple readline from the monitor
Make the readline.c functionality reusable. Instead of calling
monitor_printf() and monitor_flush() directly, invoke function pointers
provided by the user.

This way readline.c does not know about Monitor and other users will be
able to make use of readline.c.

Note that there is already an "opaque" argument to the ReadLineFunc
callback. Consistently call it "readline_opaque" from now on to
distinguish from the ReadLinePrintfFunc/ReadLineFlushFunc "opaque"
argument.

I also dropped the printf macro trickery since it's now highly unlikely
that anyone modifying readline.c would call printf(3) directly. We no
longer need this protection.

a40f1c2add qcow2: Metadata overlap checks
Two new functions are added; the first one checks a given range in the
image file for overlaps with metadata (main header, L1 tables, L2
tables, refcount table and blocks).

The second one should be used immediately before writing to the image
file as it calls the first function and, upon collision, marks the
image as corrupt and makes the BDS unusable, thereby preventing
further access.

Both functions take a bitmask argument specifying the structures which
should be checked for overlaps, making it possible to also check
metadata writes against colliding with other structures.

d903a779cf monitor: support sub command in auto completion
This patch allows auto completion work normal for sub command case,
"info block [DEVICE]" can auto complete now, by re-enter the completion
function. In original code "info" is treated as a special case, now it
is treated as a sub command group, global variable info_cmds is not used
any more.

"help" command is still treated as a special case, since it is not a sub

c35b640033 monitor: refine monitor_find_completion()
In order to support sub command in auto completion, a reentrant function
is needed, so monitor_find_completion() is split into two parts. The
first part does parsing of user input which need to be done only once,
the second part does the auto completion job according to the parsing
result, which contains the necessary code to support sub command and
works as the reentrant function. The global "info_cmds" is still used
in second part, which will be replaced by sub command code later.

66855495fb monitor: support sub command in help
The old code in help_cmd() uses global 'info_cmds' and treats it as a
special case. Actually 'info_cmds' is a sub command group of 'mon_cmds',
in order to avoid direct use of it, help_cmd() needs to change its work
mechanism to support sub command and not treat it as a special case
any more.

To support sub command, help_cmd() will first parse the input and then call
help_cmd_dump(), which works as a reentrant function. When it meets a sub
command, it simply enters the function again. Since help dumping needs to
know whole input to printf full help message include prefix, for example,
"help info block" need to printf prefix "info", so help_cmd_dump() takes all
args from input and extra parameter arg_index to identify the progress.
Another function help_cmd_dump_one() is introduced to printf the prefix
and command's help message.

Now help supports sub command, so later if another sub command group is
added in any depth, help will automatically work for it. Still "help info
block" will show error since command parser reject additional parameter,
which can be improved later. "log" is still treated as a special case.

dcc70cdf09 monitor: refine parse_cmdline()
Since this function will be used by help_cmd() later, so improve
it to make it more generic and easier to use. free_cmdline_args()
is added too as paired function to free the result.

One change of this function is that, when the valid args in input
exceed the limit of MAX_ARGS, it fails now, instead of return with
MAX_ARGS of parsed args in old code. This should not impact much
since it is rare that user input many args in monitor's "help" and
auto complete scenario.

293d2a0014 monitor: maintain at most one G_IO_OUT watch
When monitor_flush() is invoked repeatedly outside the monitor_unblocked()
callback, for example from tlb_info() -> ... -> print_pte(), several
watches may be added for the same event.

This is no problem per se because the extra monitor_unblocked() callbacks
are harmless if mon->outbuf is empty, the watches will be removed
gradually. However a big number of watches can grow "gpollfds" without
limit in glib_pollfds_fill(), triggering a -1/EINVAL condition in
g_poll().

Keep at most one such watch, by following the pattern observable in eg.
commits c874ea97 and c3d6b96e. The change has no effect when
monitor_unblocked() calls monitor_flush() (when the watch can either be
removed or renewed 1-for-1), but non-callback contexts won't create an
additional watch when the monitor already has one.

b1be42803b net: add support of mac-programming over macvtap in QEMU side
Currently macvtap based macvlan device is working in promiscuous
mode, we want to implement mac-programming over macvtap through
Libvirt for better performance.

Design:
 QEMU notifies Libvirt when rx-filter config is changed in guest,
 then Libvirt query the rx-filter information by a monitor command,
 and sync the change to macvtap device. Related rx-filter config
 of the nic contains main mac, rx-mode items and vlan table.

This patch adds a QMP event to notify management of rx-filter change,
and adds a monitor command for management to query rx-filter

Test:
 If we repeatedly add/remove vlan, and change macaddr of vlan
 interfaces in guest by a loop script.

Result:
 The events will flood the QMP client(management), management takes
 too much resource to process the events.

 Event_throttle API (set rate to 1 ms) can avoid the events to flood
 QMP client, but it could cause an unexpected delay (~1ms), guests
 guests normally expect rx-filter updates immediately.

 So we use a flag for each nic to avoid events flooding, the event
 is emitted once until the query command is executed. The flag
 implementation could not introduce unexpected delay.

There maybe exist an uncontrollable delay if we let Libvirt do the
real change, guests normally expect rx-filter updates immediately.
But it's another separate issue, we can investigate it when the
work in Libvirt side is done.

bdee56f546 tpm: reorganize headers and split hardware part
The TPM subsystem does not have a full front-end/back-end separation.
The sole available backend, tpm_passthrough, depends on the data
structures of the sole available frontend, tpm_tis.

However, we can at least try to split the user interface (tpm.c) from the
implementation (hw/tpm). The patches makes tpm.c not include tpm_int.h,
which is shared between tpm_tis.c and tpm_passthrough.c; instead it
moves more stuff to tpm_backend.h.

48c043d0d1 hmp: human-monitor-command: stop using the Memory chardev driver
The Memory chardev driver was added because, as the Monitor's output
buffer was static, we needed a way to accumulate the output of an
HMP commmand when ran by human-monitor-command.

However, the Monitor's output buffer is now dynamic, so it's possible
for the human-monitor-command to use it instead of the Memory chardev
driver.

This commit does that change, but there are two important
observations about it:

 1. We need a way to signal to the Monitor that it shouldn't call
    chardev functions when flushing its output. This is done
    by adding a new flag to the Monitor object called skip_flush
	(which is set to true by qmp_human_monitor_command())

 2. The current code has buffered semantics: QMP clients will
    only see a command's output if it flushes its output with
	a new-line character. This commit changes this to unbuffered,
	which means that QMP clients will see a command's output
	whenever the command prints anything.

	I don't think this will matter in practice though, as I believe
	all HMP commands print the new-line character anyway.

e1f2641b59 Monitor: Make output buffer dynamic
Commit f628926bb4 changed monitor_flush()
to retry on qemu_chr_fe_write() errors. However, the Monitor's output
buffer can keep growing while the retry is not issued and this can
cause the buffer to overflow.

To reproduce this issue, just start qemu and type on the Monitor:

(qemu) ?

This will cause an assertion to trig.

To fix this problem this commit makes the Monitor buffer dynamic,
which means that it can grow as much as needed.

9baea4a303 target-ppc: Remove vestigial PowerPC 620 support
The PowerPC 620 was the very first 64-bit PowerPC implementation, but
hardly anyone ever actually used the chips. qemu notionally supports the
620, but since we don't actually have code to implement the segment table,
the support is broken (quite likely in other ways too).

This patch, therefore, removes all remaining pieces of 620 support, to
stop it cluttering up the platforms we actually care about. This includes
removing support for the ASR register, used only on segment table based
machines.

d1a0cf738d Support for TPM command line options
This patch adds support for TPM command line options.
The command line options supported here are

./qemu-... -tpmdev passthrough,path=<path to TPM device>,id=<id>
           -device tpm-tis,tpmdev=<id>,id=<other id>

and

./qemu-... -tpmdev help

where the latter works similar to -soundhw help and shows a list of
available TPM backends (for example 'passthrough').

Using the type parameter, the backend is chosen, i.e., 'passthrough' for the
passthrough driver. The interpretation of the other parameters along
with determining whether enough parameters were provided is pushed into
the backend driver, which needs to implement the interface function
'create' and return a TPMDriverOpts structure if the VM can be started or
'NULL' if not enough or bad parameters were provided.

Monitor support for 'info tpm' has been added. It for example prints the
following:

(qemu) info tpm
TPM devices:
 tpm0: model=tpm-tis
  \ tpm0: type=passthrough,path=/dev/tpm0,cancel-path=/sys/devices/pnp0/00:09/cancel

6ab7e5465a Replace all setjmp()/longjmp() with sigsetjmp()/siglongjmp()
The setjmp() function doesn't specify whether signal masks are saved and
restored; on Linux they are not, but on BSD (including MacOSX) they are.
We want to have consistent behaviour across platforms, so we should
always use "don't save/restore signal mask" (this is also generally
going to be faster). This also works around a bug in MacOSX where the
signal-restoration on longjmp() affects the signal mask for a completely
different thread, not just the mask for the thread which did the longjmp.
The most visible effect of this was that ctrl-C was ignored on MacOSX
because the CPU thread did a longjmp which resulted in its signal mask
being applied to every thread, so that all threads had SIGINT and SIGTERM
blocked.

The POSIX-sanctioned portable way to do a jump without affecting signal
masks is to siglongjmp() to a sigjmp_buf which was created by calling
sigsetjmp() with a zero savemask parameter, so change all uses of
setjmp()/longjmp() accordingly. [Technically POSIX allows sigsetjmp(buf, 0)
to save the signal mask; however the following siglongjmp() must not
restore the signal mask, so the pair can be effectively considered as
"sigjmp/longjmp which don't touch the mask".]

For Windows we provide a trivial sigsetjmp/siglongjmp in terms of
setjmp/longjmp -- this is OK because no user will ever pass a non-zero
savemask.

The setjmp() uses in tests/tcg/test-i386.c and tests/tcg/linux-test.c
are left untouched because these are self-contained singlethreaded
test programs intended to be run under QEMU's Linux emulation, so they
have neither the portability nor the multithreading issues to deal with.

32c81a4a6e block: introduce block job error
The following behaviors are possible:

'report': The behavior is the same as in 1.1. An I/O error,
respectively during a read or a write, will complete the job immediately
with an error code.

'ignore': An I/O error, respectively during a read or a write, will be
ignored. For streaming, the job will complete with an error and the
backing file will be left in place. For mirroring, the sector will be
marked again as dirty and re-examined later.

'stop': The job will be paused and the job iostatus will be set to
failed or nospace, while the VM will keep running. This can only be
specified if the block device has rerror=stop and werror=stop or enospc.

'enospc': Behaves as 'stop' for ENOSPC errors, 'report' for others.

In all cases, even for 'report', the I/O error is reported as a QMP
event BLOCK_JOB_ERROR, with the same arguments as BLOCK_IO_ERROR.

It is possible that while stopping the VM a BLOCK_IO_ERROR event will be
reported and will clobber the event from BLOCK_JOB_ERROR, or vice versa.
This is not really avoidable since stopping the VM completes all pending
I/O requests. In fact, it is already possible now that a series of
BLOCK_IO_ERROR events are reported with rerror=stop, because vm_stop
calls bdrv_drain_all and this can generate further errors.

e4c8f004c5 qapi: convert sendkey
Convert 'sendkey' to use QAPI.

QAPI passes key's index of mapping table to qmp_send_key(),
not keycode. So we use help functions to convert key/code to
index of key_defs, and 'index' will be converted to 'keycode'
inside qmp_send_key().

For qmp, QAPI would check invalid key and raise error.
For hmp, invalid key is checked in hmp_send_key().

'send-key' of QMP doesn't support key in hexadecimal format.

2fdd16e239 spice migration: add QEVENT_SPICE_MIGRATE_COMPLETED
When migrating, libvirt queries the migration status, and upon migration
completions, it closes the migration src. On the other hand, when
migration is completed, spice transfers data from the src to destination
via the client. This data is required for keeping the spice session
after migration, without suffering from data loss and inconsistencies.
In order to allow this data transfer, we add QEVENT for signaling
libvirt that spice migration has completed, and libvirt needs to wait
for this event before quitting the src process.

client to open a file with different access modes (O_RDWR,
O_WRONLY, O_RDONLY) and add/remove the passed fds to/from an fd
set as needed. This will allow QEMU to (in a later patch in this
series) "open" and "reopen" the same file by dup()ing the fd in
the fd set that corresponds to the file, where the fd has the
matching access mode flag that QEMU requests.

The new QMP commands are:
  add-fd: Add a file descriptor to an fd set
  remove-fd: Remove a file descriptor from an fd set
  query-fdsets: Return information describing all fd sets

Note: These commands are not compatible with the existing getfd
and closefd QMP commands.

25df49f6eb qmp: add SUSPEND_DISK event
Emitted when the guest makes a request to enter S4 state.

There are three possible ways of having this event, as described here:

 http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2012-07/msg02307.html

I've decided to add a new event and make it indepedent of SHUTDOWN.
This means that the SHUTDOWN event will eventually follow the
SUSPEND_DISK event.

I've choosen this way because of two reasons:

 1. Having an indepedent event makes it possible to query for its
    existence by using query-events

 2. In the future, we may allow the user to change what QEMU should
    do as a result of the guest entering S4. So it's a good idea to
    keep both events separated

de253f1491 qmp: switch to the new error format on the wire
IMPORTANT: this BREAKS QMP's compatibility for the error response.

This commit changes QMP's wire protocol to make use of the simpler
error format introduced by previous commits.

There are two important (and mostly incompatible) changes:

 1. Almost all error classes have been replaced by GenericError. The
    only classes that are still supported for compatibility with
    libvirt are: CommandNotFound, DeviceNotActive, KVMMissingCap,
    DeviceNotFound and MigrationExpected

 2. The 'data' field of the error dictionary is gone

As an example, an error response like:

  { "error": { "class": "DeviceNotRemovable",
               "data": { "device": "virtio0" },
               "desc": "Device 'virtio0' is not removable" } }

Will now be emitted as:

  { "error": { "class": "GenericError",
               "desc": "Device 'virtio0' is not removable" } }

88affa1c77 monitor: remove unused do_info_trace
Going forward with simpletrace v2 variable size trace records, we cannot
have a generic function to print trace event info and therefore this
interface becomes invalid.

As per Stefan Hajnoczi:

"This command is only available from the human monitor. It's not very
useful because it historically hasn't been able to pretty-print events
or show them in the right order (we use a ringbuffer but it prints
them out from index 0).

Therefore, I don't think we're under any obligation to keep this
command around. No one has complained about it's limitations - I
think this is a sign that no one has used it. I'd be okay with a
patch that removes it."

afeecec2e8 Add rate limiting of RTC_CHANGE, BALLOON_CHANGE & WATCHDOG events
Allow certain event types to be rate limited to avoid flooding
monitor clients. The monitor_protocol_event() method is changed
such that instead of immediately emitting the event to Monitor
instances, it will call a new monitor_protocol_event_queue()
method.

This will check to see if the rate limit for the event has been
exceeded, and if so schedule a timer to wakeup at the end of the
rate limit period. If further events arrive before the timer fires,
the previously queued event will be discarded in favour of the new
event. The event will eventually be emitted when the timer fires.

This logic is applied to RTC_CHANGE, BALLOON_CHANGE & WATCHDOG
events, since the data associated with these events is stateless

973603a813 Add event notification for guest balloon changes
After setting a balloon target value, applications have to
continually poll 'query-balloon' to determine whether the
guest has reacted to this request. The virtio-balloon backend
knows exactly when the guest has reacted though, and thus it
is possible to emit a JSON event to tell the mgmt application
whenever the guest balloon changes.

This introduces a new 'qemu_balloon_changed()' API which is
to be called by balloon driver backends, whenever they have
a change in balloon value. This takes the 'actual' balloon
value, as would be found in the BalloonInfo struct.

The qemu_balloon_change API emits a JSON monitor event which
looks like:

  {"timestamp": {"seconds": 1337162462, "microseconds": 814521},
   "event": "BALLOON_CHANGE", "data": {"actual": 944766976}}

911628498c hmp: fix bad value conversion for M type
The M type converts from megabytes to bytes. However, the value can be

fails, file_completion() uses sb.st_mode uninitialized. If the
directory bit happens to be set, it appends a "/" to the completed
name.

816f89256e Sort the help info shown in monitor at runtime
This patch would try sort the command list in monitor at runtime. As a result,
command help and help info would show a more friendly sorted command list.
For eg:
(qemu)help
acl_add
acl_policy
acl_remove
acl_reset
acl_show
balloon
block_passwd
...
the command list is sorted.

v3: using qsort function to sort the command list.

2b54aa879e qapi: Convert query-vnc
There are three important remarks in relation to the non-qapi command:

 1. This commit also fixes the behavior of the 'query-vnc' and 'info vnc'
    commands to return an error when qemu is built without VNC support
    (ie. --disable-vnc). The non-qapi command would return the OK
    response in QMP and no response in HMP

 2. The qapi version explicitly marks the fields 'host', 'family',
    'service' and 'auth' as optional. Their are not documented as optional
    in the non-qapi command doc, but they would not be returned if
    vnc support is disabled. The qapi version maintains the same
    semantics, but documents those fields correctly

 3. The 'clients' field, which is a list, is marked as optional but is
    always returned. If there are no clients connected an empty list
    is returned. This is not the Right Way to this in the qapi but it's
    how the non-qapi command used to work

28a7282a5d block: Keep track of devices' I/O status
This commit adds support to the BlockDriverState type to keep track
of devices' I/O status.

There are three possible status: BDRV_IOS_OK (no error), BDRV_IOS_ENOSPC
(no space error) and BDRV_IOS_FAILED (any other error). The distinction
between no space and other errors is important because a management
application may want to watch for no space in order to extend the
space assigned to the VM and put it to run again.

Qemu devices supporting the I/O status feature have to enable it
explicitly by calling bdrv_iostatus_enable() _and_ have to be
configured to stop the VM on errors (ie. werror=stop|enospc or
rerror=stop).

In case of multiple errors being triggered in sequence only the first
one is stored. The I/O status is always reset to BDRV_IOS_OK when the
'cont' command is issued.

Next commits will add support to some devices and extend the
query-block/info block commands to return the I/O status information.

 - RUN_STATE_SAVEVM to RUN_STATE_SAVE_VM
 - RUN_STATE_IN_MIGRATE to RUN_STATE_INMIGRATE
 - RUN_STATE_PANICKED to RUN_STATE_INTERNAL_ERROR

6e0ca8820d HMP: info status: Print the VM state
Today our printf format for the "info status" command is:

  VM status: %s

Where the string can be "running", "running (single step mode)" or
"paused".

This commit extends it to:

 VM status: %s (%s)

The second string corresponds to the "status" field as returned
by the query-status QMP command and it's only printed if "status"
is not "running" or "paused".

Example:

 VM status: paused (shutdown)

PS: libvirt uses "info status" when using HMP, but the new format
    should not break it.

1dfb4dd993 Replace the VMSTOP macros with a proper state type
Today, when notifying a VM state change with vm_state_notify(),
we pass a VMSTOP macro as the 'reason' argument. This is not ideal
because the VMSTOP macros tell why qemu stopped and not exactly
what the current VM state is.

One example to demonstrate this problem is that vm_start() calls
vm_state_notify() with reason=0, which turns out to be VMSTOP_USER.

This commit fixes that by replacing the VMSTOP macros with a proper
state type called RunState.

Daniel P. Berrange
1366108981 Introduce a 'client_add' monitor command accepting an open FD
Allow client connections for VNC and socket based character
devices to be passed in over the monitor using SCM_RIGHTS.

One intended usage scenario is to start QEMU with VNC on a
UNIX domain socket. An unprivileged user which cannot access
the UNIX domain socket, can then connect to QEMU's VNC server
by passing an open FD to libvirt, which passes it onto QEMU.

 { "execute": "get_fd", "arguments": { "fdname": "myclient" } }
 { "return": {} }
 { "execute": "add_client", "arguments": { "protocol": "vnc",
                                           "fdname": "myclient",
                                           "skipauth": true } }
 { "return": {} }

In this case 'protocol' can be 'vnc' or 'spice', or the name
of a character device (eg from -chardev id=XXXX)

The 'skipauth' parameter can be used to skip any configured
VNC authentication scheme, which is useful if the mgmt layer
talking to the monitor has already authenticated the client
in another way.

* console.h: Define 'vnc_display_add_client' method
* monitor.c: Implement 'client_add' command
* qemu-char.c, qemu-char.h: Add 'qemu_char_add_client' method
* qerror.c, qerror.h: Add QERR_ADD_CLIENT_FAILED
* qmp-commands.hx: Declare 'client_add' command

Currently it accepts an CPU argument which, when provided, will send

bb593904c1 Parse SDR1 on mtspr instead of at translate time
On ppc machines with hash table MMUs, the special purpose register SDR1
contains both the base address of the encoded size (hashed) page tables.

At present, we interpret the SDR1 value within the address translation
path. But because the encodings of the size for 32-bit and 64-bit are
different this makes for a confusing branch on the MMU type with a bunch
of curly shifts and masks in the middle of the translate path.

This patch cleans things up by moving the interpretation on SDR1 into the
helper function handling the write to the register. This leaves a simple
pre-sanitized base address and mask for the hash table in the CPUState
structure which is easier to work with in the translation path.

This makes the translation path more readable. It addresses the FIXME
comment currently in the mtsdr1 helper, by validating the SDR1 value during
interpretation. Finally it opens the way for emulating a pSeries-style
partition where the hash table used for translation is not mapped into
the guests's RAM.

7447545544 change all other clock references to use nanosecond resolution accessors
This was done with:

    sed -i 's/qemu_get_clock\>/qemu_get_clock_ns/' \

    sed -i 's/qemu_new_timer\>/qemu_new_timer_ns/' \
        $(git grep -l 'qemu_new_timer\>' )

after checking that get_clock and new_timer never occur twice
on the same line. There were no missed occurrences; however, even
if there had been, they would have been caught by the compiler.

There was exactly one false positive in qemu_run_timers:

     -    current_time = qemu_get_clock (clock);
     +    current_time = qemu_get_clock_ns (clock);

which is of course not in this patch.

1cd20f8bf0 vnc: Fix password expiration through 'change vnc ""' (v2)
commit 52c18be9e9 introduced a regression in the
change vnc password command that changed the behavior of setting the VNC
password to an empty string from disabling login to disabling authentication.

This commit refactors the code to eliminate this overloaded semantics in
vnc_display_password and instead introduces the vnc_display_disable_login. The
monitor implementation then determines the behavior of an empty or missing
string.

Recently, a set_password command was added that allows both the Spice and VNC
password to be set. This command has not shown up in a release yet so the
behavior is not yet defined.

This patch proposes that an empty password be treated as an empty password with
no special handling. For specifically disabling login, I believe a new command
should be introduced instead of overloading semantics.

I'm not sure how Spice handles this but I would recommend that we have Spice
and VNC have consistent semantics here for the 0.14.0 release.

31ce5e0c49 Add "broadcast" option for mce command
When the following test case is injected with mce command, maybe user could not
get the expected result.
    DATA
               command cpu bank status mcg_status addr misc
        (qemu) mce     1   1    0xbd00000000000000 0x05        0x1234 0x8c

    Expected Result
           panic type: "Fatal Machine check"

That is because each mce command can only inject the given cpu and could not
inject mce interrupt to other cpus. So user will get the following result:
    panic type: "Fatal machine check on current CPU"

"broadcast" option is used for injecting dummy data into other cpus. Injecting
mce with this option the expected result could be gotten.

Usage:
    Broadcast[on]
           command broadcast cpu bank status mcg_status addr misc
    (qemu) mce     -b        1   1    0xbd00000000000000 0x05        0x1234 0x8c
