Changing the CFLAGS to QEMU_CFLAGS does the trick. We also need to
add -fno-strict-aliasing as this was filtered out.

The various host OSes are irritatingly variable about the name
of the linker emulation we need to pass to ld's -m option to
build the i386 option ROMs. Instead of doing this via a
CONFIG ifdef, check in configure whether any of the emulation
names we know about will work and pass the right answer through
to the makefile. If we can't find one, we fall back to not trying
to build the option ROMs, in the same way we would for a non-x86
host platform.
This is in particular necessary to unbreak the build on OpenBSD,
since it wants a different answer to FreeBSD and we don't have
an existing CONFIG_ variable that distinguishes the two.

Two fixes are needed. First, mingw does not have -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE,
hence --enable-debug disables optimization. This is not acceptable
for ROMs, which should override CFLAGS to force inclusion of -O2.
Second, PE stores global constructors and destructors using the
following linker script snippet:
___CTOR_LIST__ = .; __CTOR_LIST__ = . ;
LONG (-1);*(.ctors); *(.ctor); *(SORT(.ctors.*)); LONG (0);
___DTOR_LIST__ = .; __DTOR_LIST__ = . ;
LONG (-1); *(.dtors); *(.dtor); *(SORT(.dtors.*)); LONG (0);
The LONG directives cause the .img files to be 16 bytes too large;
the recently added check to signrom.py catches this. To fix this,
replace -T and -e options with a linker script.

When calling make with a CFLAGS=.. argument, the -g/-O filter is not
applied, which may result with build failure with ASAN for example. It
could be solved with an 'override' directive on CFLAGS, but that would
actually prevent setting different CFLAGS manually.
Instead, filter the CFLAGS argument from the top-level Makefile (so
you could still call make with a different CFLAGS argument on a
rom/Makefile manually)

Recent GCC compiles linuxboot_dma.c to 921 bytes, while CentOS 6 needs
1029 and clang needs 1527. Because the size of the ROM, rounded to the
next 512 bytes, must match, this causes the API to break between a <1K
ROM and one that is bigger.
We want to make the ROM 1.5 KB in size, but it's better to make clang
produce leaner ROMs, because currently it is worryingly close to the limit.
To fix this prevent clang's happy inlining (which -Os cannot prevent).
This only requires adding a noinline attribute.
Second, the patch makes sure that the ROM has enough padding to prevent
ABI breakage on different compilers. The size is now hardcoded in the file
that is passed to signrom.py, as was the case before commit 6f71b77
("scripts/signrom.py: Allow option ROM checksum script to write the size
header.", 2016-05-23); signrom.py however will still pad the input to
the requested size. This ensures that the padding goes beyond the
next multiple of 512 if necessary, and also avoids the need for
-fno-toplevel-reorder which clang doesn't support. signrom.py can then
error out if the requested size is too small for the actual size of the
compiled ROM.

The cc-option macro runs $(CC) in -S mode (generate assembly) to avoid a
pointless run of the assembler. However, this does not work when you want
to detect support for cc->as option passthrough. clang ignores -Wa unless
-c is provided, and exits successfully even if the -Wa,-32 option is not
supported.

There is ,bootindex=%d argument to specify the lookup order of
boot devices.
If a bootindex assigned to the device, then IPL Parameter Info Block
is created for that device when it is IPLed from.
If it is a mere SCSI device (not FCP), then IPIB is created with a
special SCSI type and its fields are used to store SCSI address of the
device. This new ipl block is private to qemu for now.
If the device to IPL from is specified this way, then SCSI bus lookup
is bypassed and prescribed devices uses the address specified.

To IPL from a device, pc-bios receives from qemu a device address via
general register 7. The better way to do it is to use diag308/6
instruction which returns so called
"IplParameterBlock". IplParameterBlock contains the device address for
IPL and additional parameters that can be used by pc-bios.
This patch allows pc-bios to get device address via diag308/6 and
doesn't use gr7 passed boot information anymore.

This is an s390 boot rom which was used in s390-virtio machine.
but since commit 3538fb6f89
"s390x: remove s390-virtio machine", this file isn't used.
The only place it is referenced in the code is an unused
define ZIPL_FILENAME. There's also comment in hw/s390/ipl.c
which I'm modifying too, to refer to s390-ccw.img instead.

We should build the bios for z900 to allow it to run with

Because of El Torito spec flaw boot image size needs to be verified.
Boot catalog entry size field has 16-bit width, and specifies size
in 512-byte units.
Thus, boot image size cannot exceed 32M.
We actually search for the file to get the file size.
This is done by scanning the ISO directory tree for the ISO block number
and reading the file size from the directory entry.

Real sun4u systems memory-map the NVRAM on the (ISA) ebus, so switch over to
MMIO from ioport access whilst setting the base year to 1968 as used by Sun
systems. This allows all SPARC64 OSs included in my tests to correctly detect
the NVRAM IC and read the hardware clock correctly upon boot.

Old kernels that used high memory only allowed the initrd to be in the
first 896MB of memory. If you load the initrd above, they complain
that "initrd extends beyond end of memory".
In order to fix this, while not breaking machines with small amounts
of memory fixed by cdebec5 (linuxboot: compute initrd loading address,
2014-10-06), we need to distinguish two cases. If pc.c placed the
initrd at end of memory, use the new algorithm based on the e801
memory map. If instead pc.c placed the initrd at the maximum address
specified by the bzImage, leave it there.
The only interesting part is that the low-memory info block is now
loaded very early, in real mode, and thus the 32-bit address has
to be converted into a real mode segment. The initrd address is
also patched in the info block before entering real mode, it is
simpler that way.
This fixes booting the RHEL4.8 32-bit installation image with 1GB
of RAM.

For Linux upstream kernel (e.g. 3.17-rc7), the related compatible string
'xlnx,xps-ethernetlite-2.00.a' is supported, but 'b' is not supported,
so change qemu dtb file to match kernel driver.
The related operation for qemu (after this patch):
yum install libvirt
yum install tunctl
tunctl -b
ip link set tap0 up
brctl addif virbr0 tap0
./configure
make
./microblaze-softmmu/qemu-system-microblaze -M petalogix-s3adsp1800 \
-kernel ../linux-stable.microblaze/arch/microblaze/boot/linux.bin \
-no-reboot -append "console=ttyUL0,115200 doreboot" -nographic \
-net nic,vlan=0,model=xlnx.xps-ethernetlite,macaddr=00:16:35:AF:94:00 \
-net tap,vlan=0,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no
in microblaze qemu bash (guest machine):
ifconfig eth0 add 192.168.122.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
ifconfig eth0 up
Then can telnet 192.168.122.2 directly without password from the host
machine.
The related operation for generating new dtb:
building Linux kernel firstly, then get dts tool "./scripts/dts/dts".
"./scripts/dtc/dtc -I dtb -O dts -o ../work.dts ../qemu/petalogix-s3adsp1800.dtb"
edit work.dts (replace 'xlnx,xps-ethernetlite-2.00.b')
"./scripts/dtc/dtc -I dts -O dtb -o ..qemu/petalogix-s3adsp1800.dtb ../work.dts"
(Since I am not quite sure whether can read this patch or not, I put the
related dtb file in attachment, please check, thanks).

Even though hw/i386/pc.c tries to compute a valid loading address for the
initrd, close to the top of RAM, this does not take into account other
data that is malloced into that memory by SeaBIOS.
Luckily we can easily look at the memory map to find out how much memory is
used up there. This patch places the initrd in the first four gigabytes,
below the first hole (as returned by INT 15h, AX=e801h).
Without this patch:
[ 0.000000] init_memory_mapping: [mem 0x07000000-0x07fdffff]
[ 0.000000] RAMDISK: [mem 0x0710a000-0x07fd7fff]
With this patch:
[ 0.000000] init_memory_mapping: [mem 0x07000000-0x07fdffff]
[ 0.000000] RAMDISK: [mem 0x07112000-0x07fdffff]
So linuxboot is able to use the 64k that were added as padding for
QEMU <= 2.1.

Using dasdfmt(8) to format a DASD allows to choose a block size.
There are four supported values: 512, 1024, 2048, and 4096 bytes
per block. Each block size leads to selection of new count of
sectors per track. The head count remains always the same: 15.
This empiric knowledge is used to detect ECKD DASD to IPL from.

The block size value may be given "as is" OR as a base value and
a shift count (exponent). So, we have to use calculation to get
the proper number in the code.
The main expression reads as
(blk_cfg.blk_size << blk_cfg.physical_block_exp)
E.g., various combinations between blk_size=1/physical_block_exp=12
and blk_size=4096/physical_block_exp=0 are valid for 4K blocks.

The loader BIOS has already activated several devices. Let's do a
subsystem reset before jumping into the guest. As there is no direct
way of doing so, we use diagnose 308 to bring the system in a
defined state. This is similar to what kdump on s390 uses. We have
to define a small trampoline function that restores the low bytes
to whatever the bootmap has written there.

The number of sectors to read is given by the last 16 bit of rec_list2.
1 is added in order to get to the real number of sectors to read (0x0000
-> read 1 block). For now, the maximum number (0xffff) led to 0 sectors
being read.
This fixes a bug where a large initrd (62MB) could not be ipled anymore.

We have to set the cssid to 0, otherwise the stsch code will
return an operand exception without the m bit. In the same way
we should set m=0.
This case was triggered in some cases during reboot, if for some
reason the location of blk_schid.cssid contains 1 and m was 0.
Turns out that the qemu elf loader does not zero out the bss section
on reboot.
The symptom was an dump of the old kernel with several areas
overwritten. The bootloader does not register a program check
handler, so bios exception jumped back into the old kernel.
Lets just use a local struct with a designed initializer. That
will guarantee that all other subelements are initialized to 0.

This resolves the build issue with building the ROMs on OpenBSD on x86 archs.
As of OpenBSD 5.3 the compiler builds PIE binaries by default and thus the
whole OS/packages and so forth. The ROMs need to have PIE disabled.
Check in configure whether the compiler supports the flags for disabling
PIE, and if it does then use them for building the ROMs. This fixes the
following buildbot failure:

Upstream OpenBIOS now implements SBus probing in order to determine the
contents of a physical bus slot, which is required to allow OpenBIOS to
identify the framebuffer without help from the fw_cfg interface.
SBus probing works by detecting the presence of an FCode program
(effectively tokenised Forth) at the base address of each slot, and if
present executes it so that it creates its own device node in the
OpenBIOS device tree.
The FCode ROM is generated as part of the OpenBIOS build and should
generally be updated at the same time.

qemu.org is held by a third-party and no core community contributor has
access to the DNS configuration. This leaves the website exposed to
outages due to DNS issues or IP address changes. For example, if the
web server IP address needs to change we cannot guarantee qemu.org will
point to it!
The newer qemu-project.org domain name is owned by Anthony Liguori
<anthony@codemonkey.ws>. You can confirm this by querying the whois
information. Also note that the #qemu IRC channel topic already
references qemu-project.org.
Short of having a dedicated legal entity to hold the domain name on
behalf of the community, qemu-project.org seems like the safest bet.
Let's replace references to qemu.org with qemu-project.org.
Note that git-submodule(1) does not detect URL changes. The following

The upper_mem field of the Multiboot information struct doesn't really
contain the RAM size - 1 MB like we used to calculate it, but only the
memory from 1 MB up to the first (upper) memory hole.
In order to correctly retrieve this information, the multiboot ROM now
looks at the mmap it creates anyway and tries to find the size of
contiguous usable memory from 1 MB.
Drop the multiboot.c definition of lower_mem and upper_mem because both
are queried at runtime now.

When the BIOS returns ebx = 0, the current entry is still valid and
needs to be included in the Multiboot memory map.
Fixing this meant that using bx as the entry index doesn't work any
more because it's 0 on the last entry (and it was SeaBIOS-specific
anyway), so the whole loop had to change a bit and should be more
generic as a result (ebx can be an arbitrary continuation number now,
and the entry size returned by the BIOS is used instead of hard-coding
20 bytes).

Now that all of the device tree bits are generated during runtime, we
can get rid of the device tree blob and instead start from scratch with
an empty device tree.

This is a bitmap file (32x32x4) derived from the official QEMU mascot
(which was designed by Benoît Canet). I stripped the text from the SVG
to get a nearly square image and converted the result to BMP without
any manual optimization.
The bitmap is currently used by QEMU's SDL interface and replaces the
default X icon.

Currently on the pseries machine the SLOF firmware is used normally,
but we bypass it when -kernel is specified. Having these two
different boot paths can cause some confusion.
In particular at present we need to "probe" the (emulated) PCI bus and
produce device tree nodes for the PCI devices in qemu, for the -kernel
case. In the SLOF case, it takes the device tree from qemu adds some
stuff to it then passes it on to the kernel.
It's been decided that a better approach is to always boot through
SLOF, even when using -kernel. WIth this approach we can leave PCI
probing and device node creation to SLOF in all cases which removes a
bunch of code in qemu, and avoids iterating the PCI devices from the
machine specific init code which we're not supposed to do.
This patch changes qemu to always boot through SLOF, and not to create
PCI nodes. Simultaneously it updates the included version of SLOF
(submodule and binary image) to one which supports (and requires) the
new approach.
The new SLOF version also includes a number of unrelated enhancements:
support for booting from virtio-pci devices and e1000, greatly
improved FCode support and many bugfixes. It also makes SLOF ready to
be used even when specifying a kernel on the qemu command line.

This patch updates the SLOF submodule and precompiled image. The new
SLOF versions contains two changes of note:
* The previous SLOF has a bug in SCSI condition handling that was
exposed by recent updates to qemu's SCSI emulation. This update
fixes the bug.
* The previous SLOF has a bug in its addressing of SCSI devices,
which can be exposed under certain conditions. The new SLOF also
fixes this.
