The "hotplugged" property is user visible, but it was never meant
to be set by the user. There are probably multiple ways to break
or crash device code by overriding the property. For example, we
recently fixed a crash in rtc_set_memory() related to the
property (commit 26ef65beab).
There has been some discussion about making management software
use "hotplugged=on" on migration, to indicate devices that were
hotplugged in the migration source. There were other suggestions
to address this, like including the "hotplugged" field in the
migration stream instead of requiring it to be set explicitly.
Whatever solution we choose in the future, this patch disables
setting "hotplugged" explicitly in the command-line by now,
because the ability to set the property is unused, untested, and
undocumented.

But when "-numa" option is provided without "mem" parameter,
the memory is equally divided between nodes, but 8MB aligned.
This can be not valid for pseries.
In that case we can have:

Original problem description by Greg Kurz:
> Since commit "9a4c0e220d8a hw/virtio-pci: fix virtio
> behaviour", passing -device virtio-blk-pci.disable-modern=off
> has no effect on 2.6 machine types because the internal
> virtio-pci.disable-modern=on compat property always prevail.
The same bug also affects other abstract type names mentioned on
compat_props by machine-types: apic-common, i386-cpu, pci-device,
powerpc64-cpu, s390-skeys, spapr-pci-host-bridge, usb-device,
virtio-pci, x86_64-cpu.
The right fix for this problem is to make sure compat_props and
-global options are always applied in the order they are
registered, instead of reordering them based on the type
hierarchy. But changing the ordering rules of -global is risky
and might break existing configurations, so we shouldn't do that
on a stable branch.
This is a temporary hack that will work around the bug when
registering compat_props properties: if we find an abstract class
on compat_props, register properties for all its non-abstract
subtypes instead. This will make sure -global won't be overridden
by compat_props, while keeping the existing ordering rules on
-global options.
Note that there's one case that won't be fixed by this hack:
"-global spapr-pci-vfio-host-bridge.<option>=<value>" won't be
able to override compat_props, because spapr-pci-host-bridge is
not an abstract class.

Apparently, none of the bus owner give a reference to the hotplug
handler property, do not unref it on bus release.
Furthermore, a bus is allowed to be its own hotplug handler, which can
be seen in qbus_set_bus_hotplug_handler() function. However, in this
case, the reference can't be given to the property, or this will create
a cyclic dependency and the bus will never be free.
Each bus owner should manage the lifecycle of the hotplug handler.

Commit a3a3d8c7 introduced a segfault bug while checking for
'dc->vmsd->unmigratable' which caused QEMU to crash when trying to add
devices which do no set their 'dc->vmsd' yet while initialization.
Place a 'dc->vmsd' check prior to it so that we do not segfault for
such devices.
NOTE: This doesn't compromise the functioning of --only-migratable
option as all the unmigratable devices do set their 'dc->vmsd'.
Introduce a new function check_migratable() and move the
only_migratable check inside it, also use stubs to avoid user-mode qemu

This finally allows TCG to benefit from the iothread introduction: Drop
the global mutex while running pure TCG CPU code. Reacquire the lock
when entering MMIO or PIO emulation, or when leaving the TCG loop.
We have to revert a few optimization for the current TCG threading
model, namely kicking the TCG thread in qemu_mutex_lock_iothread and not
kicking it in qemu_cpu_kick. We also need to disable RAM block
reordering until we have a more efficient locking mechanism at hand.
Still, a Linux x86 UP guest and my Musicpal ARM model boot fine here.

20337 jan 20 0 331m 75m 6904 S 20 0.9 0:26.50 qemu-system-arm

Sometimes it is useful to have just a machine with CPU and RAM, without
any further hardware in it, e.g. if you just want to do some instruction
debugging for TCG with a remote GDB attached to QEMU, or run some embedded
code with the "-semihosting" QEMU parameter. qemu-system-m68k already
features a "dummy" machine, and xtensa a "sim" machine for exactly this
purpose.
All target architectures have nowadays also a "none" machine, which would
be a perfect match for this, too - but it currently does not allow to add
CPU and RAM yet. Thus let's add these possibilities in a generic way to the
"none" machine, too, so that we hopefully do not need additional "dummy"
machines in the future anymore (and maybe can also get rid of the already
existing "dummy"/"sim" machines one day).
Note that the default behaviour of the "none" machine is not changed, i.e.
no CPU and no RAM is instantiated by default. You have explicitely got to
specify the CPU model with "-cpu" and the amount of RAM with "-m" to get
these new features.

According to ISO C99 / N1256 (referenced in HACKING):

> not an element of an array behaves the same as a pointer to the first
> element of an array of length one with the type of the object as its

>
> 5 When two pointers are compared, the result depends on the relative
> locations in the address space of the objects pointed to. If two

> In all other cases, the behavior is undefined.
Our AddressSpace objects are allocated generally individually, and kept in
the "address_spaces" linked list, so we mustn't compare their addresses
with relops.
Convert the pointers subjected to the relop in rom_order_compare() to
"uintptr_t":
> 7.18.1.4 Integer types capable of holding object pointers
>

> The following type designates an unsigned integer type with the
> property that any valid pointer to void can be converted to this type,
> then converted back to pointer to void, and the result will compare

* Commit 3e76099aac ("loader: Allow a custom AddressSpace when loading
ROMs") introduced the "Rom.as" field:
(1) It modified the utility callers of rom_insert() to take "as" as a
new parameter from *their* callers, and set "rom->as" from that
parameter. The functions covered were rom_add_file() and
rom_add_elf_program().
(2) It also modified rom_insert() itself, to auto-assign
"&address_space_memory", in case the external caller passed -- and
the utility caller forwarded -- as=NULL.
Except, commit 3e76099aac forgot to update the third utility caller of
rom_insert(), under point (1), namely rom_add_blob().
* Later, commit 5e774eb3bd ("loader: Add AddressSpace loading support
to uImages") added the load_uimage_as() function, and the
rom_add_blob_fixed_as() function-like macro, with the necessary changes
elsewhere to propagate the new "as" parameter to rom_add_blob():
load_uimage_as()
load_uboot_image()
rom_add_blob_fixed_as()
rom_add_blob()
At this point, the signature (and workings) of rom_add_blob() had been
broken already, and the rom_add_blob_fixed_as() macro passed its "_as"
parameter to rom_add_blob() as "callback_opaque". Given that the
"fw_callback" parameter itself was set to NULL (correctly), this did no
additional damage (the opaque arg would never be used), but ultimately
it broke the new functionality of load_uimage_as().
* The load_uimage_as() function would be put to use in one of the later
patches, commit e481a1f63c ("generic-loader: Add a generic loader").
* We can fix this only in a unified patch now. Append "AddressSpace *as"
to the signature of rom_add_blob(), and handle the new parameter. Pass
NULL from all current callers, except from rom_add_blob_fixed_as(),
where "_as" has to be bumped to the proper position.
* Note that rom_add_file() rejects the case when both "mr" and "as" are
passed in as non-NULL. The action that this is apparently supposed to
prevent is the
rom->mr = mr;
assignment (that's the only place where the "mr" parameter is used in
rom_add_file()). In rom_add_blob() though, we have no "mr" parameter,
and the actions done on the fw_cfg branch:
if (fw_file_name && fw_cfg) {
if (mc->rom_file_has_mr) {
data = rom_set_mr(rom, OBJECT(fw_cfg), devpath);
mr = rom->mr;
} else {
data = rom->data;
}
reflect those that are performed by rom_add_file() too (with mr==NULL):
if (rom->fw_file && fw_cfg) {
if ((!option_rom || mc->option_rom_has_mr) &&
mc->rom_file_has_mr) {
data = rom_set_mr(rom, OBJECT(fw_cfg), devpath);
} else {
data = rom->data;
}
Hence we need no additional restrictions in rom_add_blob().
* Stable is not affected as both problematic commits appeared first in
v2.8.0-rc0.

Add a generic loader to QEMU which can be used to load images or set
memory values.
Internally inside QEMU this is a device. It is a strange device that
provides no hardware interface but allows QEMU to monkey patch memory
specified when it is created. To be able to do this it has a reset
callback that does the memory operations.
This device allows the user to monkey patch memory. To be able to do
this it needs a backend to manage the datas, the same as other
memory-related devices. In this case as the backend is so trivial we
have merged it with the frontend instead of creating and maintaining a
seperate backend.

This is a mostly-mechanical conversion that creates a new flat
union 'Netdev' QAPI type that covers all the branches of the
former 'NetClientOptions' simple union, where the branches are
now listed in a new 'NetClientDriver' enum rather than generated
from the simple union. The existence of a flat union has no
change to the command line syntax accepted for new code, and
will make it possible for a future patch to switch the QMP
command to parse a boxed union for no change to valid QMP; but
it does have some ripple effect on the C code when dealing with
the new types.
While making the conversion, note that the 'NetLegacy' type
remains unchanged: it applies only to legacy command line options,
and will not be ported to QMP, so it should remain a wrapper
around a simple union; to avoid confusion, the type named
'NetClientOptions' is now gone, and we introduce 'NetLegacyOptions'
in its place. Then, in the C code, we convert from NetLegacy to
Netdev as soon as possible, so that the bulk of the net stack
only has to deal with one QAPI type, not two. Note that since
the old legacy code always rejected 'hubport', we can just omit
that branch from the new 'NetLegacyOptions' simple union.

sure that only a single guest device is attached to it. device-add
returns an error if you try to attach a second device to a BB. In order
to make the error message nicer, -device that manually connects to a

This API provides some encapsulation of registers and factors out some
common functionality to common code. Bits of device state (usually MMIO
registers) often have all sorts of access restrictions and semantics
associated with them. This API allows you to define what those
restrictions are on a bit-by-bit basis.
Helper functions are then used to access the register which observe the
semantics defined by the RegisterAccessInfo struct.
Some features:
Bits can be marked as read_only (ro field)
Bits can be marked as write-1-clear (w1c field)
Bits can be marked as reserved (rsvd field)
Reset values can be defined (reset)
Bits can be marked clear on read (cor)
Pre and post action callbacks can be added to read and write ops
Verbose debugging info can be enabled/disabled
Useful for defining device register spaces in a data driven way. Cuts
down on a lot of the verbosity and repetition in the switch-case blocks
in the standard foo_mmio_read/write functions.
Also useful for automated generation of device models from hardware
design sources.

put the newly created device onto the default system bus. However
if the device is not actually a SysBusDevice then this will result
in later crashes (for instance when running the monitor "info qtree"

Generally the mistake is that the calling code should create the

Delta value must be updated on period/freq change, otherwise running timer
would be restarted (counter reloaded with old delta). Only m68k/mcf520x

ptimer_get_count() might be called while QEMU timer already been expired.
In that case ptimer would return counter = 0, which might be undesirable
in case of polled timer. Do counter wrap around for periodic timer to keep
it distributed. In order to achieve more accurate emulation behaviour of
certain hardware, don't perform wrap around when in icount mode and return
counter = 0 in that case (that doesn't affect polled counter distribution).

Multiple issues here related to the timer with a adjusted .limit value:
1) ptimer_get_count() returns incorrect counter value for the disabled
timer after loading the counter with a small value, because adjusted limit
value is used instead of the original.
For instance:
1) ptimer_stop(t)
2) ptimer_set_period(t, 1)
3) ptimer_set_limit(t, 0, 1)
4) ptimer_get_count(t) <-- would return 10000 instead of 0
2) ptimer_get_count() might return incorrect value for the timer running
with a adjusted limit value.
For instance:
1) ptimer_stop(t)
2) ptimer_set_period(t, 1)
3) ptimer_set_limit(t, 10, 1)
4) ptimer_run(t)
5) ptimer_get_count(t) <-- might return value > 10
3) Neither ptimer_set_period() nor ptimer_set_freq() are adjusting the
limit value, so it is still possible to make timer timeout value
arbitrary small.
For instance:
1) ptimer_set_period(t, 10000)
2) ptimer_set_limit(t, 1, 0)
3) ptimer_set_period(t, 1) <-- bypass limit correction
Fix all of the above issues by adjusting timer period instead of the limit.
Perform the adjustment for periodic timer only. Use the delta value instead
of the limit to make decision whether adjustment is required, as limit could
be altered while timer is running, resulting in incorrect value returned by
ptimer_get_count.

pio_addr_t is almost unused, because these days I/O ports are simply
accessed through the address space. cpu_{in,out}[bwl] themselves are
almost unused; monitor.c and xen-hvm.c could use address_space_read/write
directly, since they have an integer size at hand. This leaves qtest as
the only user of those functions.
On the other hand even portio_* functions use this type; the only
interesting use of pio_addr_t thus is include/hw/sysbus.h. I guess I
could move it there, but I don't see much benefit in that either. Using
uint32_t is enough and avoids the need to include ioport.h everywhere.

hw/pci/pci.h includes qemu-common.h, but its users only need pcibus_t

the ill-advised include. Include hw/pci/pci.h where the moved stuff

Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.
Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.
Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.
This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one.

Some CPUs are of an opposite data-endianness to other components in the
system. Sometimes elfs have the data sections layed out with this CPU
data-endianness accounting for when loaded via the CPU, so byte swaps
(relative to other system components) will occur.
The leading example, is ARM's BE32 mode, which is is basically LE with
address manipulation on half-word and byte accesses to access the
hw/byte reversed address. This means that word data is invariant
across LE and BE32. This also means that instructions are still LE.
The expectation is that the elf will be loaded via the CPU in this
endianness scheme, which means the data in the elf is reversed at
compile time.
As QEMU loads via the system memory directly, rather than the CPU, we
need a mechanism to reverse elf data endianness to implement this
possibility.

JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were
called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be
a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to
match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(),
where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the
otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's
time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the
'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument.
Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h
prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to
unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in
qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients.
Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and
those clients to match.
Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated
files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle
script to affect the rest of the code base:
$ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'`
I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB
indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of
visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to
the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). The
movement of parameters is sufficient to provoke compiler errors
if any callers were missed.

Change this behavior to be configurable, but leave it defaulted to 1.44.
This is not earnestly intended to be used by a user or a management

qbus_realize() adds busses as a QOM child of the device in addition to
adding it to the qdev bus list. Change get_child_bus() to use the QOM
child if it is available. This takes priority over the bus-list, but
the child object is checked for type correctness.
This prepares support for aliasing of buses. The use case is SoCs,
where a SoC container needs to present buses to the board level, but
the buses are implemented by controller IP we already model as self
contained qbus-containing devices.

This patch adds deterministic replay for hardware periodic countdown timers.
ptimer uses bottom halves layer to execute such an asynchronous callback.
We put this callback into the replay queue instead of bottom halves one.
When checkpoint is met by main loop thread, the replay queue is processed
and callback is executed. Binding callback moment to one of the checkpoints
makes it deterministic.

Expansion of [*] suffix is very slow because index expansion is done using
trial and error strategy, starting every time from zero and retrying with
the next index until insertion succeeds. With large number of already added
properties this process takes huge amount of time (O(n^2) complexity).
Some architectures (like ARM) use very large amount of IRQ pins in interrupt
controller models. This flaw makes machine startup extremely slow
(~20 seconds for ARM64 with 32 CPUs). This patch decreases this time down to

Commit ef701d7 screwed up handling of out-of-memory conditions.
Before the commit, we report the error and exit(1), in one place. The
commit lifts the error handling up the call chain some, to three
places. Fine. Except it uses &error_abort in these places, changing
the behavior from exit(1) to abort(), and thus undoing the work of
commit 3922825 "exec: Don't abort when we can't allocate guest
memory".
The previous commit fixed up uses of memory_region_init_ram(). One of
them was replaced by memory_region_init_resizeable_ram() [sic!] in
commit a166614, so Coccinelle missed it. Fix it up.

Signed-off-by: Peter Maydell <peter.maydell@linaro.org>
On ARM, commit ac9d32e396 postponed the
memory preparation for boot until the machine init done notifier. This
has for consequence to insert ROM at machine init done time.
However the rom_load_all function stayed called before the ROM are
inserted. As a consequence the rom_load_all function does not do
everything it is expected to do, on ARM.
It currently registers the ROM reset notifier but does not iterate through
the registered ROM list. the isrom field is not set properly. This latter
is used to report info in the monitor and also to decide whether the
rom->data can be freed on ROM reset notifier.
To fix that regression the patch moves the rom_load_all call after
machine init done. We also take the opportunity to rename the rom_load_all
function into rom_check_and_resgister_reset() and integrate the
rom_load_done in it.

If the user forgot if=none on their drive specification they're likely
to get an error message because the drive is assigned once automatically
by QEMU and once by the manual id=/drive= user command line specification.
Improve the error message produced in this case to explicitly guide the
user towards if=none.
We rephrase the "drive conflict but not for an if=something" error as
well to keep the wording in line.
The two cases that change are:
(1) Drive specified as to be auto-connected and also manually connected
(and the board does handle this if= type):
qemu-system-x86_64 -nodefaults -display none \
-drive if=scsi,file=tmp.qcow2,id=foo -device ide-hd,drive=foo
Previously:
qemu-system-x86_64: -device ide-hd,drive=foo: Property 'ide-hd.drive'
can't take value 'foo', it's in use
Now:
qemu-system-x86_64: -device ide-hd,drive=foo: Drive 'foo' is already in
use because it has been automatically connected to another device (did
you need 'if=none' in the drive options?)
(2) Drive specified to be manually connected in two different ways:
qemu-system-x86_64 -nodefaults -display none \
-drive if=none,file=tmp.qcow2,id=foo -device ide-hd,drive=foo \
-device ide-hd,drive=foo
Previously:

The sysbus_get_fw_dev_path() function formats OpenFirmware device path
nodes ("driver-name@unit-address") for sysbus devices. The first choice
for "unit-address" is the base address of the device's first MMIO region.
The second choice is its first IO port.
However, if two sysbus devices with the same "driver-name" lack both MMIO
and PIO resources, then there is no good way to distinguish them based on
their OFW nodes, because in this case unit-address is omitted completely
for both devices. An example is TYPE_PXB_HOST ("pxb-host").
For the sake of such devices, introduce the explicit_ofw_unit_address()
"virtual member function". With this function, each sysbus device in the
same SysBusDeviceClass can state its own address.

This is done mainly for improving readability, and in preparation for the
next patch, but Markus pointed out another bonus for the string being
returned:
"No arbitrary length limit. Before the patch, it's 39 characters, and the
code breaks catastrophically when qdev_fw_name() is longer: the second
snprintf() is called with its first argument pointing beyond path[], and
its second argument underflowing to a huge size."

When the argument is non-zero, qemu_opts_foreach() stops on callback
returning non-zero, and returns that value.
When the argument is zero, it doesn't stop, and returns the bit-wise
inclusive or of all the return values. Funky :)
The callers that pass zero could just as well pass one, because their
callbacks can't return anything but zero:
* qemu_add_globals()'s callback qdev_add_one_global()
* qemu_config_write()'s callback config_write_opts()
* main()'s callbacks default_driver_check(), drive_enable_snapshot(),
vnc_init_func()

geometry: hd_geometry_guess function autodetects the drive geometry.
This patch adds a block backend call, that probes the backing device
geometry. If the inner driver method is implemented and succeeds
(currently only for DASDs), the blkconf_geometry will pass-through
the backing device geometry. Otherwise will fallback to old logic.
blocksize: This patch initializes blocksize properties to 0.
In order to set the property a blkconf_blocksizes was introduced.
If user didn't set physical or logical blocksize, it will
retrieve its value from a driver (only succeeds for DASD), otherwise
it will set default 512 value.
The blkconf_blocksizes call was added to all users of BlkConf.

Three kinds of callers:
1. On failure, report the error and abort
Passing &error_abort does the job. No functional change.
2. On failure, report the error and exit()
This is qdev_prop_set_drive_nofail(). Error reporting moves from
qdev_prop_set_drive() to its caller. Because hiding away the error
in the monitor right before exit() isn't helpful, replace
qerror_report_err() by error_report_err(). Shouldn't make a
difference, because qdev_prop_set_drive_nofail() should never be
used in QMP context.
3. On failure, report the error and recover
This is usb_msd_init() and scsi_bus_legacy_add_drive(). Error
reporting and freeing the error object moves from
qdev_prop_set_drive() to its callers.
Because usb_msd_init() can't run in QMP context, replace
qerror_report_err() by error_report_err() there.
No functional change.
scsi_bus_legacy_add_drive() calling qerror_report_err() is of
course inappropriate, but this commit merely makes it more obvious.
The next one will clean it up.

Currently the "platform-bus" device is included for all softmmu builds.
This bridge is intended for use on any platforms that require dynamic
creation of sysbus devices. However, at present it is used only for the
PPC E500 target, with plans for the ARM "virt" target in the immediate
future.
To avoid a not-very-useful entry appearing in "qemu -device ?" output on
other targets, this patch makes a specific config option for platform-bus
and enables it (for now) only on ppc configurations which include E500
and on ARM (which always includes the "virt" target).

-global lets you set a nice booby-trap for yourself:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -nodefaults -S -display none -usb -monitor stdio -global usb-mouse.usb_version=l
QEMU 2.1.94 monitor - type 'help' for more information
(qemu) device_add usb-mouse
Parameter 'usb_version' expects an int64 value or range
$ echo $?
1
Not nice. Until commit 3196270 we even abort()ed.
The same error triggers if you manage to screw up a machine type's
compat_props. To demonstrate, change HW_COMPAT_2_1's entry to
.driver = "usb-mouse",\
.property = "usb_version",\
.value = "1", \
Then run
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -usb -M pc-i440fx-2.1 -device usb-mouse
upstream-qemu: -device usb-mouse: Parameter 'usb_version' expects an int64 value or range
$ echo $?
1
One of our creatively cruel error messages.
Since this is actually a coding error, we *should* abort() here.
Replace the error by an assertion failure in this case.
But turn the fatal error into a mere warning when the faulty
GlobalProperty comes from the user. Looks like this:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -nodefaults -S -display none -usb -monitor stdio -global usb-mouse.usb_version=l
QEMU 2.1.94 monitor - type 'help' for more information
(qemu) device_add usb-mouse
Warning: global usb-mouse.usb_version=l ignored (Parameter 'usb_version' expects an int64 value or range)
(qemu)
This is consistent with how we handle similarly unusable -global in
qdev_prop_check_globals().
You could argue that the error should make device_add fail. Would be
harder, because we're running within TypeInfo's instance_post_init()
method device_post_init(), which can't fail.

NICPeers which is not a pointer defined in DEFINE_PROP_NETDEV. This
trick works but result a unclean and fragile implementation (e.g
print_netdev and parse_netdev).
This patch solves this issue by not using set/get_pinter() and set and
get netdev directly in set_netdev() and get_netdev(). After this the
parse_netdev() and print_netdev() were no longer used and dropped from

cause a QEMU crash when trying to use HMP device_del auto-completion.

The root cause is qdev_build_hotpluggable_device_list going recursively over
all peripherals and their children assuming all are devices. It doesn't work
since PCI devices have at least on child which is a memory region (bus master).
Solved by observing that all devices appear as direct children of
/machine/peripheral container. No need of going recursively
over all the children.

We need to support spawning of sysbus devices dynamically via the command line.
The easiest way to represent these dynamically spawned devices in the guest's
memory and IRQ layout is by preallocating some space for dynamic sysbus devices.
This is what the "platform bus" device does. It is a sysbus device that exports
a configurably sized MMIO region and a configurable number of IRQ lines. When
this device encounters sysbus devices that have been dynamically created and not
manually wired up, it dynamically connects them to its own pool of resources.
The machine model can then loop through all of these devices and create a guest
configuration (device tree) to make them visible to the guest.
Signed-off-by: Alexander Graf <agraf@suse.de>
Sysbus devices have a range of MMIO regions they expose. The exact number
of regions is device specific and internal information to the device model.
Expose whether a region exists via a public interface. That way our platform
bus enumeration code can dynamically determine how many regions exist.
Signed-off-by: Alexander Graf <agraf@suse.de>
Sysbus devices can get their IRQ lines connected to other devices. It is
possible to figure out which IRQ line a connection is on and whether a sysbus
device even provides an IRQ connector at a specific offset.
This patch exposes helpers to make this information publicly accessible. We
will need it for the platform bus dynamic sysbus enumeration.
Signed-off-by: Alexander Graf <agraf@suse.de>
Now that we can properly map sysbus devices that haven't been connected to
something forcefully by C code, we can allow the -device command line option
to spawn them.
For machines that don't implement dynamic sysbus assignment in their board
files we add a new bool "has_dynamic_sysbus" to the machine class.
When that property is false (default), we bail out when we see dynamically
spawned sysbus devices, like we did before.

Sysbus devices can be spawned by C code or dynamically via the command line.
In the latter case, we need to be able to find the dynamically created devices
to do things with them.
This patch adds a search helper that makes it easy to look for dynamically
spawned sysbus devices.

Such address translation is needed when load address recorded in uImage
is a virtual address. When the actual load address is requested, return
untranslated address: user that needs the translated address can always
apply translation function to it and those that need it untranslated
don't need to do the inverse translation.
Add translation function pointer and its parameter to uimage_load
prototype. Update all existing users.
No user-visible functional changes.

Re-implement the Sysbus GPIOs to use the existing TYPE_DEVICE
GPIO named framework. A constant string name is chosen to avoid
conflicts with existing unnamed GPIOs.
This unifies GPIOs are IRQs for sysbus devices and allows removal
of all Sysbus state for GPIOs.
Any existing and future-added functionality for GPIOs is now
also available for sysbus IRQs.

Allows a container to take ownership of GPIOs in a contained
device and automatically connect them as GPIOs to the container.
This prepares for deprecation of the SYSBUS IRQ functionality, which
has this feature. We push it up to the device level instead of sysbus
level. There's nothing sysbus specific about passing GPIOs to
containers so its a legitimate device-level generic feature.

Change the qtest intercept handler to accept just the individual IRQ

Device models should access their block backends only through the
block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of
inappropriate headers.
Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left:
* The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images
itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it
should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead.
* Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model
does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either.
* ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of
blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB,
which has only the BlockDriverState.
* PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member.

The alternative is to munge names .e.g. with "-in" or "-out" suffixes

Currently GlobalProperty.not_used=false has multiple meanings:
* It may be a property for a hotpluggable device, which may or may not
have been used by a device;
* It may be a machine-type-provided property, which may or may not have
been used by a device.
* It may be a user-provided property that was actually not used by
any device.
Simplify the logic by having two separate fields: 'user_provided' and
'used'. This allows the entire global property validation logic to be
contained in a single function, and allows more specific error messages.

A subsequent patch to ppc/spapr needs to load the RTAS blob into
qemu memory rather than target memory (so it can later be copied
into the right spot at machine reset time).
I would use load_image() but it is marked deprecated because it
doesn't take a buffer size as argument, so let's add load_image_size()
that does.

At present, this function doesn't have partial cleanup implemented,
which will cause resource leaks in some scenarios.
Example:
1. Assume that "dc->realize(dev, &local_err)" executes successful
and local_err == NULL;
2. device hotplug in hotplug_handler_plug() executes but fails
(it is prone to occur). Then local_err != NULL;
3. error_propagate(errp, local_err) and return. But the resources
which have been allocated in dc->realize() will be leaked.
Simple backtrace:
dc->realize()
|->device_realize
|->pci_qdev_init()
|->do_pci_register_device()
|->etc.
Add fuller cleanup logic which assures that function can
goto appropriate error label as local_err population is
detected at each relevant point.

Forcefully unrealize all children regardless of errors in earlier
iterations (if any). We should keep going with cleanup operation
rather than report an error immediately. Therefore store the first
child unrealization failure and propagate it at the end. We also
forcefully unregister vmsd and unrealize actual object, too.
