cb58a6d361 mttcg/i386: Patch instruction using async_safe_* framework
In mttcg, calling pause_all_vcpus() during execution from the
generated TBs causes a deadlock if some vCPU is waiting for exclusive
execution in start_exclusive(). Fix this by using the aync_safe_*
framework instead of pausing vcpus for patching instructions.

8d04fb55de tcg: drop global lock during TCG code execution
This finally allows TCG to benefit from the iothread introduction: Drop
the global mutex while running pure TCG CPU code. Reacquire the lock
when entering MMIO or PIO emulation, or when leaving the TCG loop.

We have to revert a few optimization for the current TCG threading
model, namely kicking the TCG thread in qemu_mutex_lock_iothread and not
kicking it in qemu_cpu_kick. We also need to disable RAM block
reordering until we have a more efficient locking mechanism at hand.

Still, a Linux x86 UP guest and my Musicpal ARM model boot fine here.
These numbers demonstrate where we gain something:

The guest CPU was fully loaded, but the iothread could still run mostly

We don't benefit significantly, though, when the guest is not fully

8094532b47 icount: update instruction counter on apic patching
kvmvapic patches the code when some instructions are executed.
E.g. mov 0xff, 0xfffe0080 is interpreted as push 0xff/call ...
This patching is also followed by some side effects (changing apic
and guest memory state). Therefore deterministic execution should take
this operation into account. This patch decreases icount when original
mov instruction is trying to execute. Therefore patching becomes
deterministic and can be replayed correctly.

a1f9108756 hw/i386/kvmvapic: Remove dead code in patch_hypercalls()
The patch_hypercalls() function sets up a 'patches'
variable and checks it at the end of the function, but
never modifies it in the middle. Remove this dead code,
which seems to have been present since the function was
added in commit e5ad936b0f in 2012.

14e6fe12a7 *_run_on_cpu: introduce run_on_cpu_data type
This changes the *_run_on_cpu APIs (and helpers) to pass data in a
run_on_cpu_data type instead of a plain void *. This is because we
sometimes want to pass a target address (target_ulong) and this fails on
32 bit hosts emulating 64 bit guests.

a5e998262f tcg: protect translation related stuff with tb_lock.
This protects all translation related work with tb_lock() too ensure
thread safety. This effectively serialises all code generation. In
addition to the code generation we also take the lock for TB
invalidation. This has a knock on effect of meaning tb_lock() is held
for modification of the SoftMMU TLB by non-self threads which will be
used in later patches.

e0eeb4a21a cpus: pass CPUState to run_on_cpu helpers
CPUState is a fairly common pointer to pass to these helpers. This means
if you need other arguments for the async_run_on_cpu case you end up
having to do a g_malloc to stuff additional data into the routine. For
the current users this isn't a massive deal but for MTTCG this gets
cumbersome when the only other parameter is often an address.

This adds the typedef run_on_cpu_func for helper functions which has an
explicit CPUState * passed as the first parameter. All the users of
run_on_cpu and async_run_on_cpu have had their helpers updated to use
CPUState where available.

6886b98036 cpu-exec: Rename cpu_resume_from_signal() to cpu_loop_exit_noexc()
The function cpu_resume_from_signal() is now always called with a
NULL puc argument, and is rather misnamed since it is never called
from a signal handler. It is essentially forcing an exit to the
top level cpu loop but without raising any exception, so rename
it to cpu_loop_exit_noexc() and drop the useless unused argument.

63c915526d cpu: move exec-all.h inclusion out of cpu.h
exec-all.h contains TCG-specific definitions.  It is not needed outside
TCG-specific files such as translate.c, exec.c or *helper.c.

One generic function had snuck into include/exec/exec-all.h; move it to
include/qom/cpu.h.

3213525f8a tcg: Remove needless CPUState::current_tb
This field was used for telling cpu_interrupt() to unlink a chain of TBs
being executed when it worked that way. Now, cpu_interrupt() don't do
this anymore. So we don't need this field anymore.

89fee74a0f tb: consistently use uint32_t for tb->flags
We are inconsistent with the type of tb->flags: usage varies loosely
between int and uint64_t. Settle to uint32_t everywhere, which is
superior to both: at least one target (aarch64) uses the most significant
bit in the u32, and uint64_t is wasteful.

Compile-tested for all targets.

occurs while doing I/O port write operations via hmp interface. In that,
'current_cpu' remains null as it is not called from cpu_exec loop, which

076893d3d0 kvmvapic: patch_instruction fix
When QEMU works in icount mode cpu_restore_state function performs two actions:
restoring the program counter and updating icount to the correct value.
kvmvapic's patch_instruction function is called by cpu_report_tpr_access
function which also invokes cpu_restore_state. It results to calling
cpu_restore_state twice - in cpu_report_tpr_access and in patch_instruction.
When icount is disabled second call is safe. But when icount is enabled,
cpu_restore_state modifies instructions counter twice, which leads to incorrect
behavior. This patch removes useless cpu_restore_state call from kvmvapic.

5a6e8ba64f kvmvapic: fix migration when VM paused and when not running Windows
This patch fixes migration by extending do_vapic_enable function. This function
called vapic_enable which read cpu number from the guest memory. When cpu
number could not be read, vapic was not enabled while loading the VM state.
This patch adds required code for cpu_number=0 to do_vapic_enable function,
because it is called only when cpu_number=0.

a6dead43e6 apic_common: vapic_paddr synchronization fix
This patch postpones vapic_paddr initialization, which is performed
during migration. When vapic_paddr is synchronized within the migration
process, apic_common functions could operate with incorrect apic state,
if it hadn't loaded yet. This patch postpones the synchronization until
the virtual machine is started, ensuring that the whole virtual machine
state has been loaded.

After previous Peter patch, they are redundant.  This way we don't
assign them except when needed.  Once there, there were lots of case
where the ".fields" indentation was wrong:

Change all the combinations to:

The biggest problem (appart from aesthetics) was that checkpatch complained
when we copy&pasted the code from one place to another.

837d37167d sysbus: Set cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet
device_add plugs devices into suitable bus.  For "real" buses, that
actually connects the device.  For sysbus, the connections need to be
made separately, and device_add can't do that.  The device would be
left unconnected, and could not possibly work.

Quite a few, but not all sysbus devices already set
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet in their class init function.

Set it in their abstract base's class init function
sysbus_device_class_init(), and remove the now redundant assignments
from device class init functions.

efec3dd631 qdev: Replace no_user by cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet
In an ideal world, machines can be built by wiring devices together
with configuration, not code.  Unfortunately, that's not the world we
live in right now.  We still have quite a few devices that need to be
wired up by code.  If you try to device_add such a device, it'll fail
in sometimes mysterious ways.  If you're lucky, you get an
unmysterious immediate crash.

To protect users from such badness, DeviceClass member no_user used to
make device models unavailable with -device / device_add, but that
regressed in commit 18b6dad.  The device model is still omitted from
help, but is available anyway.

Attempts to fix the regression have been rejected with the argument
that the purpose of no_user isn't clear, and it's prone to misuse.

This commit clarifies no_user's purpose.  Anthony suggested to rename
it cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet_due_to_internal_bugs, which
I shorten somewhat to keep checkpatch happy.  While there, make it
bool.

Every use of cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet gets a FIXME
comment asking for rationale.  The next few commits will clean them
all up, either by providing a rationale, or by getting rid of the use.

With that done, the regression fix is hopefully acceptable.

7174e54cf1 kvmvapic: Prevent reading beyond the end of guest RAM
rom_state_paddr is guest provided (caller address of outw(VAPIC_PORT) +
writen 16-bit value) and can be influenced to point beyond the end of
the host memory backing the guest's RAM. Make sure we do not use this
pointer to actually read beyond the limits.

Reading arbitrary guest bytes is harmless, the guest kernel has to
manage access to this I/O port anyway.

4357930b8a kvmvapic: Clear also physical ROM address when entering INACTIVE state
To avoid misinterpreting INACTIVE after migration as old qemu-kvm's

c056bc3f34 kvmvapic: Enter inactive state on hardware reset
ROM layout may change after reset of devices are hotplugged, so we have
to pick up the physical address again when the ROM is initialized. This
is best achieved by resetting the state to INACTIVE.

18e5eec4db kvmvapic: Catch invalid ROM size
If not caught early, a zero-length ROM will cause a NULL-pointer access
later on in patch_hypercalls when allocating a zero-length ROM copy and
trying to read from it.

Change breakpoint_invalidate() argument to CPUState alongside.

Since all targets now assign a softmmu-only field, we can drop helpers
cpu_class_set_{do_unassigned_access,vmsd}() and device_class_set_vmsd().

Prepares for changing cpu_memory_rw_debug() argument to CPUState.

182735efaf cpu: Make first_cpu and next_cpu CPUState
Move next_cpu from CPU_COMMON to CPUState.
Move first_cpu variable to qom/cpu.h.

gdbstub needs to use CPUState::env_ptr for now.
cpu_copy() no longer needs to save and restore cpu_next.

dfde4e6e1a memory: add ref/unref calls
Add ref/unref calls at the following places:

- places where memory regions are stashed by a listener and
  used outside the BQL (including in Xen or KVM).

- memory_region_find callsites

- creation of aliases and containers (only the aliased/contained
  region gets a reference to avoid loops)

- around calls to del_subregion/add_subregion, where the region
  could disappear after the first call
