Remove macro HOST_LONG_SIZE
If compiled with CONFIG_FDT, allow user to specify a device tree file using
the -dtb argument. If the machine supports it then the dtb will be loaded
into memory and passed to the kernel on boot.

Like the related macro TCG_TARGET_LONG, HOST_LONG_BITS can be determined
by the C preprocessor. It is also not used in Makefiles.
So there is no need to calculate it in configure, and it can be defined
in qemu-common.h.

libusbredirparser-0.3.4 adds 2 new packets which allows us to notify
the usb-host:
-about the usb device filter we have (if any), so that it knows not the even
try to redirect certain devices
-when we reject a device based on filtering (in case it tries anyways)

drop all ifdefs on SPICE_INTERFACE_QXL_MINOR >= 1 as a result,
any check for SPICE_SERVER_VERSION that is now always satisfied,
and SPICE_INTERFACE_CORE_MINOR >= 3 tests, because
0.8.2 has SPICE_INTERFACE_QXL_MINOR == 1 and
SPICE_INTERFACE_CORE_MINOR == 3.

On some systems (notably ARM Linux) glibc provides implementations
of makecontext(), getcontext() and friends which are stubs which
always return failure. Make the configure test for makecontext()
also check for the presence of the __stub_makecontext macro which
indicates the presence of these stubs, so we can avoid trying to use
them and fall back to a different coroutine implementation instead.

This patch adds --{enable,disable}-debug-info switches to configure
which allows to include/exclude the '-g' switch on the gcc & ld
command lines. Not building debug info reduces ressource usage
(especially disk) alot and is quite useful for test builds.

Various stubs and #ifdefs to compile for Windows using mingw
cross-build. Still has 1 linker error due to a dependency on the
forthcoming win32 versions of the GAChannel/transport class.
Remove the OpenBSD workaround for the curses probe. This has not been
necessary for 5 releases now.

This patch adds the posibility to filter out certain devices from redirecion.
To use this pass the filter property to -device usb-redir. The filter
property takes a string consisting of filter rules, the format for a rule is:
<class>:<vendor>:<product>:<version>:<allow>
-1 can be used to allow any value for a field.
Muliple rules can be concatonated using | as a separator. Note that if
a device matches none of the passed in rules, redirecting it will not be
allowed!
Example:
-device usb-redir,filter='-1:0x0781:0x5567👎0|0x08👎-1👎1'
This example will deny the Sandisk Cruzer Blade being redirected, as it
has a usb id of 0781:5567, it will allow any other usb mass storage devices,
and it will deny any other devices (the default for devices not matching any
of the rules.

The most common use of -net tap is to connect a tap device to a bridge. This
requires the use of a script and running qemu as root in order to allocate a
tap device to pass to the script.
This model is great for portability and flexibility but it's incredibly
difficult to eliminate the need to run qemu as root. The only really viable
mechanism is to use tunctl to create a tap device, attach it to a bridge as
root, and then hand that tap device to qemu. The problem with this mechanism
is that it requires administrator intervention whenever a user wants to create
a guest.
By essentially writing a helper that implements the most common qemu-ifup
script that can be safely given cap_net_admin, we can dramatically simplify
things for non-privileged users. We still support existing -net tap options
as a mechanism for advanced users and backwards compatibility.
Currently, this is very Linux centric but there's really no reason why it
couldn't be extended for other Unixes.
A typical invocation would be similar to one of the following:

The default bridge that we attach to is br0. The thinking is that a distro
could preconfigure such an interface to allow out-of-the-box bridged networking.
Alternatively, if a user wants to use a different bridge, a typical invocation
would be simliar to one of the following:

The ideal way to use qemu-bridge-helper is to give it an fscap of using:
setcap cap_net_admin=ep qemu-bridge-helper
Unfortunately, most distros still do not have a mechanism to package files
with fscaps applied. This means they'll have to SUID the qemu-bridge-helper
binary.
To improve security, use libcap to reduce our capability set to just
cap_net_admin, then reduce privileges down to the calling user. This is
hopefully close to equivalent to fscap support from a security perspective.

This patch adds a helper that can be used to create a tap device attached to
a bridge device. Since this helper is minimal in what it does, it can be
given CAP_NET_ADMIN which allows qemu to avoid running as root while still
satisfying the majority of what users tend to want to do with tap devices.
The way this all works is that qemu launches this helper passing a bridge
name and the name of an inherited file descriptor. The descriptor is one
end of a socketpair() of domain sockets. This domain socket is used to
transmit a file descriptor of the opened tap device from the helper to qemu.
The helper can then exit and let qemu use the tap device.

The test for whether the host CPU is supported had several problems:
* the attempt to fall back to TCI was done as a duplicate
test, very late (so "--cpu foo" would fail early but "--cpu unicore32"
would fail late, differently, and after configure had already
printed a lot of output)
* a number of CPUs only supported as guests were included in the
list of CPUs we would accept as valid hosts, which would result
in a late compile failure on those systems rather than a
configure failure or fallback to TCI
* bailing out for an unsupported CPU happened before the main
option parsing, so "configure --help" wouldn't work
Fix these by folding the setting of ARCH into the first test for
supported host CPU, removing spurious guest-only CPU names from it,
and moving the "fall back to TCI" code earlier.

With this patch, it only takes one test (instead of four)
to detect that there is no Xen support at all.
For most build hosts, this will reduce the time configure needs.
It will also reduce noisy output in config.log.
Build hosts with Xen now need up to five (instead of up to four)
tests. They get improved diagnostics when Xen support fails.

Since commit 1d14ffa97e (in 2005),
QEMU applications on W32 don't use the default SDL compiler flags:
Instead of a GUI application, a console application is created.
This has disadvantages (there is always an empty console window) and
no obvious reason, so this patch removes the strange flag modification.
The SDL GUI applications still can be run from a console window
and even send stdout and stderr to that console by setting environment
variable SDL_STDIO_REDIRECT=no.

test-coroutine is listed as a libcheck test in the 'checks' variable. This
is not right because 'make check' won't run test-coroutine if libcheck
tests are not enabled (either because libcheck isn't detected or because
--disable-check-utests is passed).
Tests using the glib test framework are independent from libcheck and
afaik are always present (although having a configure switch to disable
them is probably worth it).
Untangle test-coroutine from the libcheck tests by introducing the
'test_progs' variable and using it to generate the test list used by
'make check'.

Drop the distinction between armv4l/armv4b in the $cpu variable
(ie host cpu type) in favour of calling everything 'arm'. This
makes it the same as the ARCH setting and removes some special
casing. The only thing we were using the distinction for was to
decide which endianness to use in cross compilation; do a cpp
define check there instead.

option analysis switch, making the latter options have no effect.
There were some --*dir that are supported by Autoconf and not by QEMU configure.
The aim was to let QEMU packagers use the rpm (or similar) macro that overrides
directories for their distribution.
Replace --*dir with exact option names.

Change the default on x86 Linux hosts to building PIE (position
independent executables); instead of restricting the option to
user-only targets, apply it to all targets.
In addition, set the relocation sections to read-only (relro) when
available; this reduces the attack surface by disallowing changes to
relocation tables at runtime.
While PIE reduces performance and relro increases load time, it
greatly improves security, with the potential to reduce a code
execution vulnerability to a self denial of service.
Non-x86 are not changed, as they require TCG changes; neither are
non-Linux, due to lack of test coverage.

Modern distributions place xattr.h in /usr/include/sys, and fold
libattr.so into libc. They also don't have an ENOATTR.
Make configure detect this, and add a qemu-xattr.h file that
directs the #include to the right place.

Create a new CHECKS variable. Put the checks there instead

According to David Gibson for some compiler/libc combinations, open_by_handle_at
test in configure isn't quite right: because the file_handle pointer is never
dereferenced, gcc doesn't complain even if it is undefined. Change the test
as suggested by him.

We have several targets in the PPC tree now that basically require libfdt
to function properly, namely the pseries and the e500 targets. This dependency
will rather increase than decrease in the future, so I want to make sure
that people building shiny new 1.0 actually have libfdt installed to get
rid of a few ifdefs in the code.
Warning: This patch will likely make configure fail for people who don't
select their own --target-list, but don't have libfdt development packages
installed. However, we really need this new dependency to move on.

This provides built-in support for iSCSI to QEMU.
This has the advantage that the iSCSI devices need not be made visible to the host, which is useful if you have very many virtual machines and very many iscsi devices.
It also has the benefit that non-root users of QEMU can access iSCSI devices across the network without requiring root privilege on the host.
This driver interfaces with the multiplatform posix library for iscsi initiator/client access to iscsi devices hosted at
git://github.com/sahlberg/libiscsi.git
The patch adds the driver to interface with the iscsi library.
It also updated the configure script to
* by default, probe is libiscsi is available and if so, build
qemu against libiscsi.
* --enable-libiscsi
Force a build against libiscsi. If libiscsi is not available
the build will fail.
* --disable-libiscsi
Do not link against libiscsi, even if it is available.
When linked with libiscsi, qemu gains support to access iscsi resources such as disks and cdrom directly, without having to make the devices visible to the host.
You can specify devices using a iscsi url of the form :
iscsi://[<username>[:<password>@]]<host>[:<port]/<target-iqn-name>/<lun>
When using authentication, the password can optionally be set with
LIBISCSI_CHAP_PASSWORD="password" to avoid it showing up in the process list

specific extended operation and assign right callback for the

We only support -M pseries when certain prerequisites are met, such
as a PPC64 guest and libfdt. To only gather these requirements in
a single place, this patch introduces a new CONFIG_PSERIES variable
that gets set when all prerequisites are met.

If pkg-config doesn't exist then make configure fail immediately
with a useful error message. Now that glib is a required dependency,
proceeding despite the missing pkg-config will just cause us to
fail later with a misleading message about glib not being present.

This patch removes redundant shell code and cleans it a little bit.
Shell macro compile_prog takes two arguments:
local_cflags and local ldflags.
$QEMU_CFLAGS is added automatically to the cflags, so there is no need
to pass it as an argument.
It is also unnecessary to pass -Werror twice.
$flag is a compiler warning option, so it should be in local_cflags
instead of local_ldflags.

The QDict unit-tests (check-qdict) will fail when ran on a different
build directory. That's, it only works when ran on the source dir.
This happens because its data file (qdict-test-data.txt) is not
copied to the build dir. Fix it.

Fix install(1) usage to be compatible with OpenBSD's install(1).
When creating a directory via the -d flag the -p flag cannot be
used at the same time. Also in the context of installing QEMU it
doesn't make sense to use the -p flag anyway so use the [default]
-c flag instead.

Enabling the I/O thread by default seems like an important part of declaring
1.0. Besides allowing true SMP support with KVM, the I/O thread means that the
TCG VCPU doesn't have to multiplex itself with the I/O dispatch routines which
currently requires a (racey) signal based alarm system.
I know there have been concerns about performance. I think so far the ones that
have come up (virtio-net) are most likely due to secondary reasons like
decreased batching.
I think we ought to force enabling I/O thread early in 1.0 development and
commit to resolving any lingering issues.

This patch tries to cull any uneeded library dependencies from the guest
agent to improve portability across various distros. We do so by being
as explicit as possible about in-tree dependencies rather than relying
on existing *-obj-y targets, and by manually setting LIBS for the
qemu-ga target to avoid pulling in LIBS_TOOLS libraries discovered by
configure.

guest_agent is not supported for mingw32, so the default value
should be 'no', not 'yes'.
This removes the dependencies to glib-2.0 and python which
makes native and cross builds for w32 much easier (no need
to get and install these extra packages).
It also avoids the problems caused by different bitfield alignment
which is required by glib-2.0.
It is still possible to set guest_agent=yes via configure option.

When overriding a tool name via a shell variable, don't
tack on the cross-prefix. This specifically allows the
pkg-config command to be overridden and work where it

QAPI will require glib/python, but for now the guest agent is the only
user. For now, make these dependencies an explicit guest agent one, and
give users the option to disable it if need be.
Once QAPI is adopted in core QEMU code, we would basically revert this
patch.

On platforms that don't support makecontext(3) use gthread based
coroutine implementation.
Darwin has makecontext(3) but getcontext(3) is stubbed out to return
ENOTSUP. Andreas Färber <andreas.faerber@web.de> debugged this and
contributed the ./configure test which solves the issue for Darwin/ppc64
(and ppc) v10.5.
[Original patch by Aneesh, made consistent with coroutine-ucontext.c and
switched to GStaticPrivate by Stefan. Tested on Linux and OpenBSD.]

When using xen_enabled() we're currently only checking if xen is enabled
at all during the build. But what if you want to build multiple targets
out of which only one can potentially run xen code?
That means that for generic code we'll still have to fall back to the
variable and potentially slow the code down, but it's not as important as
that is mostly xen device emulation which is not touched for non-xen targets.
The target specific code however can with this patch see that it's unable to
ever execute xen code. We can thus always return 0 on xen_enabled(), giving
gcc enough hints to evict the mapcache code from the target memory management
code.

As far as I can tell, there isn't a dependency on gthread. Also, the only use
of gio was to enable GSocket to accept a unix domain socket.
Since GSocket isn't available on OpenSuSE 11.1, let's just remove that
dependency.

This patch adds support for a usb-redir device, which takes a chardev
as a communication channel to an actual usbdevice using the usbredir protocol.
Compiling the usb-redir device requires usbredir-0.3 to be installed for
the usbredir protocol parser, usbredir-0.3 also contains a server for
redirecting usb traffic from an actual usb device. You can get the 0.3
release of usbredir here:

This is the actual guest daemon, it listens for requests over a
virtio-serial/isa-serial/unix socket channel and routes them through
to dispatch routines, and writes the results back to the channel in
a manner similar to QMP.
A shorthand invocation:
qemu-ga -d
Is equivalent to:
qemu-ga -m virtio-serial -p /dev/virtio-ports/org.qemu.guest_agent.0 \
-f /var/run/qemu-ga.pid -d

Base definitions/includes for Visiter interface used by generated
visiter/marshalling code.
Includes a GenericList type. Our lists require an embedded element.
Since these types are generated, if you want to use them in a different
type of data structure, there's no easy way to add another embedded
element. The solution is to have non-embedded lists and that what this is.

GLib is an extremely common library that has a portable thread implementation
along with tons of other goodies.
GLib and GObject have a fantastic amount of infrastructure we can leverage in
QEMU including an object oriented programming infrastructure.
Short term, it has a very nice thread pool implementation that we could leverage
in something like virtio-9p. It also has a test harness implementation that
this series will use.

When we create the symlinks to source tree files, don't create them
if the file is not actually present in the source tree; this will
happen if the file is in a git submodule that wasn't checked out.
This also avoids the odd effect where an in-source-tree configure
will end up creating the missing file as a symlink to itself.

This helps reducing our build-time checks for feature support in the
available Linux kernel headers. And it helps users that do not have
sufficiently recent headers installed on their build machine.
Consequently, the patch removes and build-time checks for kvm and vhost
in configure, the --kerneldir switch, and KVM_CFLAGS. Kernel headers are
supposed to be provided by QEMU only.
s390 needs some extra love as it carries redefinitions from kernel
headers.

BeOS and Haiku on i386 use long for 32-bit types, including pid_t.
Using %d with pid_t therefore results in a warning.
Unfortunately POSIX:2008 does not define a PRId* string for pid_t.
In some places pid_t was previously casted to long and %ld hardcoded.
The predecessor of this patch added another upcast for the simpletrace
filename but was not applied to date.
Since new uses of pid_t with %d keep creeping in, let's instead define
an OS-dependent format string and use that consistently.

No flag to configure is required. Instead, added a libcacard.la target that
is not built by default, only when requested explicitly via:
mkdir build
cd build
../configure
make libcacard.la
make install-libcacard
Uses libtool to do actual linking of object files and shared library, and
installing. Tested only under linux, but supposed to work on other systems as
well.
If libtool isn't found you get a message complaining about that, only at build
time (since it is not a default target I did not add a message at configure
time).
New build artifacts:
.libs subdirectories (at <buildroot> and <buildroot>/libcacard)
*.lo files (at same locations as the respective o files)
Added %.lo : %.c rule that uses libtool.
Updated clean rule to clean up those artifacts.
Added specific rule to call dtrace with libtool wrapper (note that because of
a current upstream dtrace bug fixed by systemtap b1568fd85 commit the -fPIC flag
isn't actually passed on. still current dtrace+libtool produced object links fine).
If libtool is missing any of the following targets will complain and exit 1:
any subdir: *.lo
root and libcacard: libcacard.la, libcacard-instsall
Tested to link and load with all tracing backends.
Under Darwin, a symbol exists for the fdatasync() function, so that our
link test succeeds. However _POSIX_SYNCHRONIZED_IO is set to '-1'.
According to POSIX:2008, a value of -1 means the feature is not supported.
A value of 0 means supported at compilation time, and a value greater 0
means supported at both compilation and run time.
Enable fdatasync() only if _POSIX_SYNCHRONIZED_IO is '>0'.

Older versions of libcurl don't have some of the features we try to
use, in particular curl_multi_setopt(). Check for this in the 'is
libcurl available?' configure test so we disable curl support if the
library is too old.

This patch raises the minimum required spice version to 0.6.0 and drops
a few ifdefs.
0.6.0 is the first stable release with the current libspice-server API,
there shouldn't be any 0.5.x development versions deployed any more.

With all of the pre-existing code that would not compile gone,
this is the earliest point at which the target can be enabled.
There is no machine defined yet, so this will crash on startup.
Enable the target anyway, to make sure that further compilation
problems do not creep back in.

When compiling Qemu with older kernel headers, the PVR setting
mechanism isn't available yet. Unfortunately, back then I didn't add
a capability we could check against, so all we can do is add a configure
test to see if we support PVR setting. For BookE, we don't care yet.
This fixes compilation errors with KVM enabled on older kernel headers
(like 2.6.32).

On IA32 host or IA32 PAE host, at present, generally, we can't create
an HVM guest with more than 2G memory, because generally it's almost
impossible for Qemu to find a large enough and consecutive virtual
address space to map an HVM guest's whole physical address space.
The attached patch fixes this issue using dynamic mapping based on
little blocks of memory.
Each call to qemu_get_ram_ptr makes a call to qemu_map_cache with the
lock option, so mapcache will not unmap these ram_ptr.
Blocks that do not belong to the RAM, but usually to a device ROM or to
a framebuffer, are handled in a separate function. So the whole RAMBlock
can be map.

Work around a SPARC glibc bug which caused the epoll_create1 configure
test to wrongly claim that the function was present. Some versions of
SPARC glibc provided the function in the library but didn't declare
it in the include file; the result is that gcc warns about an implicit
declaration but a link succeeds. So we reference the function as a
value rather than a function call to induce a compile time error
if the declaration was not present.

The alignment for longs on s390x is 8. That's the only place where it differs
from the default alignments found in configure already. The example alignment
program from Laurent printed the following on a real s390x:

libcacard: fix out of tree builds
A CCID device is a smart card reader. It is a USB device, defined at [1].
This patch introduces the usb-ccid device that is a ccid bus. Next patches will
introduce two card types to use it, a passthru card and an emulated card.

the Configuration Descriptor bmAttributes claims we are self powered,
but we were returning not self powered to USB_REQ_GET_STATUS control message.
In practice, this message is not sent by a linux 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64
guest (not tested on other guests), unless you issue lsusb -v as root (for
example).
On pSeries machines, operating systems can instantiate "RTAS" (Run-Time
Abstraction Services), a runtime component of the firmware which implements
a number of low-level, infrequently used operations. On logical partitions
under a hypervisor, many of the RTAS functions require hypervisor
privilege. For simplicity, therefore, hypervisor systems typically
implement the in-partition RTAS as just a tiny wrapper around a hypercall
which actually implements the various RTAS functions.
This patch implements such a hypercall based RTAS for our emulated pSeries
machine. A tiny in-partition "firmware" calls a new hypercall, which
looks up available RTAS services in a table.

rbd support tries to both link with -lrados and -lcrypto. While the
first one is of course necessary, the second is not necessary (only
librados ifself needs to link with libcrypto).
This fixes a licensing issue: qemu as a whole is GPL v2, and thus can't
be linked with OpenSSL without an exception in the license, which seems
difficult to get given the number of persons involved.

qemu i386 used to support more than 4GB of RAM through PAE, but it has
been disabled for an unknown reason. Reenable it.
Note that simply running qemu x86_64 and emulating a 32-bit CPU is not
a solution to this problem as it is about 15% slower (it needs to
emulate 64 bit registers even if half of them are not used). On the
other hand, I haven't seen any measurable impact by switching
target_phys_bits to 64.

Support the epoll family of syscalls: epoll_create(), epoll_create1(),
epoll_ctl(), epoll_wait() and epoll_pwait(). Note that epoll_create1()
and epoll_pwait() are later additions, so we have to test separately
in configure for their presence.

Found by Stefan Hajnoczi: There is a race in kvm_cpu_exec between
checking for exit_request on vcpu entry and timer signals arriving
before KVM starts to catch them. Plug it by blocking both timer related
signals also on !CONFIG_IOTHREAD and process those via signalfd.
As this fix depends on real signalfd support (otherwise the timer
signals only kick the compat helper thread, and the main thread hangs),
we need to detect the invalid constellation and abort configure.

We need to be able to catch exceptions correctly and thus enable softfloat
on SH4.
As all machines except i386 and x86_64 are using softfloat, make it the
default and change the case to detect i386 and x86_64. Note that CRIS
doesn't have an FPU, so it can be configured with both softfloat-native
and softfloat.

Since commit d1807a4f83 ./configure tries
to test files and directories with "test -f", which only test for regular
files. Test with "test -e", which looks for any kind of files.
This unbreak the configure script when not using a separate object
directory.

Non-existent -I paths are dropped silently by the compiler, but still
it is not polite to pass bogus options. Configure-time tests do not
need any include files from the source path, so only include -I flags
at make time (when they're properly expanded).

I didn't test with sparse, but the old code using += before a variable
was set was wrong. Sparse support should probably be ripped out or

RBD is an block driver for the distributed file system Ceph
(http://ceph.newdream.net/). This driver uses librados (which is part
of the Ceph server) for direct access to the Ceph object store and is
running entirely in userspace (Yehuda also wrote a driver for the
linux kernel, that can be used to access rbd volumes as a block
device).

This introduces a new tracing backend that targets the SystemTAP
implementation of DTrace userspace tracing. The core functionality
should be applicable and standard across any DTrace implementation
on Solaris, OS-X, *BSD, but the Makefile rules will likely need
some small additional changes to cope with OS specific build
requirements.
This backend builds a little differently from the other tracing
backends. Specifically there is no 'trace.c' file, because the
'dtrace' command line tool generates a '.o' file directly from
the dtrace probe definition file. The probe definition is usually
named with a '.d' extension but QEMU uses '.d' files for its
external makefile dependancy tracking, so this uses '.dtrace' as
the extension for the probe definition file.
The 'tracetool' program gains the ability to generate a trace.h
file for DTrace, and also to generate the trace.d file containing
the dtrace probe definition.
Example usage of a dtrace probe in systemtap looks like:

This introduces a new tracing backend that targets the SystemTAP
implementation of DTrace userspace tracing. The core functionality
should be applicable and standard across any DTrace implementation
on Solaris, OS-X, *BSD, but the Makefile rules will likely need
some small additional changes to cope with OS specific build
requirements.
This backend builds a little differently from the other tracing
backends. Specifically there is no 'trace.c' file, because the
'dtrace' command line tool generates a '.o' file directly from
the dtrace probe definition file. The probe definition is usually
named with a '.d' extension but QEMU uses '.d' files for its
external makefile dependancy tracking, so this uses '.dtrace' as
the extension for the probe definition file.
The 'tracetool' program gains the ability to generate a trace.h
file for DTrace, and also to generate the trace.d file containing
the dtrace probe definition.
Example usage of a dtrace probe in systemtap looks like:

This patch adds three devices to qemu:
intel-hda
Intel HD Audio Controller, the PCI device. Provides a HDA bus.
Emulates ICH6 at the moment. Adding a ICH9 PCIE
variant shouldn't be hard.
hda-duplex
HDA Codec. Attaches to the HDA bus. Supports 16bit stereo,
rates 16k -> 96k, playback, recording and volume control
(with CONFIG_MIXEMU=y).
hda-output
HDA Codec without recording support. Subset of the hda-duplex
codec. Use this if you don't want your guests access your mic.
Usage: add '-device intel-hda -device hda-duplex' to your command line.
Tested guests:
* Linux works.
* Win7 works.
* DOS (mpxplay) works.
* WinXP doesn't work.

the i386 tests. I use macros so that this approach could be applied
for other arches as well.

-Wall enables a bunch of warnings at once. configure puts it after
$gcc_flags. This makes it impossible to disable warnings enabled by

Removing the definition from several checks avoids compiler warnings

This fixes an observed failure to detect madvise() on Linux.
To avoid similar issues, all other tests that use NULL but don't already
have stddef.h (or another header that is defined to provide NULL,
such as stdio.h, unistd.h, or time.h) are also fixed.

For compatibility with BeOS, Haiku's error codes are negative whereas recent
POSIX versions require them to be positive. As spotted by François, some
parts of QEMU code rely on this, so use a mapper library to convert them
to positive ones.

vl.c has a Sun-specific hack to supply a prototype for madvise(),
but the call site has apparently moved to arch_init.c.
Haiku doesn't implement madvise() in favor of posix_madvise().
OpenBSD and Solaris 10 don't implement posix_madvise() but madvise().
MinGW implements neither.
Check for madvise() and posix_madvise() in configure and supply qemu_madvise()
as wrapper. Prefer madvise() over posix_madvise() due to flag availability.
Convert all callers to use qemu_madvise() and QEMU_MADV_*.
Note that on Solaris the warning is fixed by moving the madvise() prototype,
not by qemu_madvise() itself. It helps with porting though, and it simplifies
most call sites.

If the linker supports the flags --dynamicbase, --no-seh,
or --nxcompat, use them.
Tested on Windows Vista: Process Explorer reports that ASLR and DEP
are in use. No effect seen on Wine or Windows XP.

This patch adds LTTng Userspace Tracer (UST) backend support. The UST
system requires no kernel support but libust and liburcu must be
installed.

Allow users to specify a file for trace-outputs at configuration.
Also, allow trace files to be annotated by <pid> so each qemu instance has
unique traces.
The trace file name can be passed as a config option:
--trace-file=/path/to/file
(Default: trace )
At runtime, the pid of the qemu process is appended to the filename so
that mutiple qemu instances do not have overlapping logs.
Eg : trace-1234 for qemu launched with pid 1234.
I have yet to test this on windows. getpid() is used at many places
in code(including vnc.c), so I'm hoping this would be okay too.

This patch adds support for dynamically enabling/disabling of trace events.
This is done by internally maintaining each trace event's state, and
permitting logging of data from a trace event only if it is in an
'active' state.
Monitor commands added :
1) info trace-events : to view all available trace events and
their state.
2) trace-event NAME on|off : to enable/disable data logging from a
given trace event.
Eg, trace-event paio_submit off
disables logging of data when
paio_submit is hit.
By default, all trace-events are disabled. One can enable desired trace-events
via the monitor.

currently does not build on those targets. This patch abstracts the
monitor printing interface so there is no direct coupling between

This patch introduces the trace-events file where trace events can be
declared like so:
qemu_malloc(size_t size) "size %zu"
qemu_free(void *ptr) "ptr %p"
These trace event declarations are processed by a new tool called
tracetool to generate code for the trace events. Trace event
declarations are independent of the backend tracing system (LTTng User
Space Tracing, ftrace markers, DTrace).
The default "nop" backend generates empty trace event functions.
Therefore trace events are disabled by default.
The trace-events file serves two purposes:
1. Adding trace events is easy. It is not necessary to understand the
details of a backend tracing system. The trace-events file is a
single location where trace events can be declared without code
duplication.
2. QEMU is not tightly coupled to one particular backend tracing system.
In order to support tracing across QEMU host platforms and to
anticipate new backend tracing systems that are currently maturing,
it is important to be flexible and not tied to one system.

We must be able to use a non-native strip executable, but not all
versions of 'install' support the --strip-program option (e.g.
OpenBSD). Accordingly, we can't use 'install -s', and we must run strip
separately.

vnc_jpeg and vnc_png are now "auto" by default, this means that
if the dependencies are installed (libjpeg or libpng), then they
will be enabled.
vnc_thread is disabled by default. It should be enabled by default
as soon as it's stable enougth.

Implement a threaded VNC server using the producer-consumer model.
The main thread will push encoding jobs (a list a rectangles to update)
in a queue, and the VNC worker thread will consume that queue and send
framebuffer updates to the output buffer.
The threaded VNC server can be enabled with ./configure --enable-vnc-thread.
If you don't want it, just use ./configure --disable-vnc-thread and a syncrhonous
queue of job will be used (which as exactly the same behavior as the old queue).
If you disable the VNC thread, all thread related code will not be built and there will
be no overhead.

Introduce a new encoding: VNC_ENCODING_TIGHT_PNG [1] (-269) with a new
tight filter VNC_TIGHT_PNG (0x0A). When the client tells it supports the Tight PNG
encoding, the server will use tight, but will always send encoding pixels using
PNG instead of zlib. If the client also told it support JPEG, then the server can
send JPEG, because PNG will only be used in the cases zlib was used in normal tight.
This encoding was introduced to speed up HTML5 based VNC clients like noVNC [2], but
can also be used on devices like iPhone where PNG can be rendered in hardware.

Add gradient filter and JPEG compression with an heuristic to detect how
lossy the comppression will be. This code has been adapted from
libvncserver/tight.c.
JPEG support can be enabled/disabled at compile time with --enable-vnc-jpeg
and --disable-vnc-jpeg.

Making an xyzdir variable for each directory prepares for the next
patches introducing config-host.h defines and configure options for them.
It also fixes the problem where overriding prefix at "make install"
time did not override it for sysconfdir.
Removes some of the differences between sysconfdir and other variables,
the rest will go away later.

One of the most important missing feature in QMP today is its
supported commands documentation.
The plan is to make it part of self-description support, however
self-description is a big task we have been postponing for a
long time now and still don't know when it's going to be done.
In order not to compromise QMP adoption and make users' life easier,
this commit adds a simple text documentation which fully describes
all QMP supported commands.
This is not ideal for a number of reasons (harder to maintain,
text-only, etc) but does improve the current situation. To avoid at
least divering from the user monitor help and texi snippets, QMP bits
are also maintained inside qemu-monitor.hx, and hxtool is extended to
generate a single text file from them.

This patch enhances the algorithm which finds the correct settings for SDL.
For cross compilations (when cross_prefix is set), it looks for sdl-config
with cross prefix. Here is the complete search order:
$(cross_prefix}pkg-config (old, only used for cross compilation)
${cross_prefix}sdl_config (new, only used for cross compilation)
pkg-config (old, needs PATH)
sdl-config (old, needs PATH)
Cross SDL packages (or the user) now can simply set a link (for example
/usr/bin/i586-mingw32msvc-sdl-config -> /usr/i586-mingw32msvc/bin/sdl-config)
which allows cross compilations without PATH modifications.
Without the patch, configure and make (which calls configure) typically
need a non-standard PATH. Failing to set this special PATH results in
broken builds.

The ABI-specific types used by linux_binprm and image_info
are different after forcing TARGET_ABI32 on. Which means
that the parameters that load_elf_binary_multi sees are not
those that loader_exec passed. This is inherently broken
and is more trouble than it's worth fixing.

Using $pkgconfig instead of pkg-config will use
${cross_prefix}pkg-config if that is available.
This fix is needed for cross compilations without
modified PATH. Without the fix, PATH must be modified
to find the cross pkg-config before the native
pkg-config.

Delete inline functions from tcg-target.h that don't need to be there,
move the others to tcg-target.c. Add 'Z', 'I', 'J' constraints for
0, signed 11-bit, and signed 5-bit respectively. Add GUEST_BASE support
similar to ppc64, with the value stored in a register. Add missing
registers to reg_alloc_order. Add support for 12-bit branch relocations.
Add functions for synthetic operations: addi, mtctl, dep, shd, vshd, ori,
andi, shifts, rotates, multiply, branches, setcond. Split out TLB reads
from qemu_ld and qemu_st; fix argument loading for tlb external calls.
Generate the prologue.

Historically the qemu tlb "addend" field was used for both RAM and IO accesses,
so needed to be able to hold both host addresses (unsigned long) and guest
physical addresses (target_phys_addr_t). However since the introduction of
the iotlb field it has only been used for RAM accesses.
This means we can change the type of addend to unsigned long, and remove
associated hacks in the big-endian TCG backends.
We can also remove the host dependence from target_phys_addr_t.

A few words about design choices:
* On IA64, instructions should be grouped by bundle, and dependencies
between instructions declared. A first version of this code tried to
schedule instructions automatically, but was very complex and too
invasive for the current common TCG code (ops not ending at
instruction boundaries, code retranslation breaking already generated
code, etc.) It was also not very efficient, as dependencies between
TCG ops is not available.
Instead the option taken by the current implementation does not try
to fill the bundle by scheduling instructions, but by providing ops
not available as an ia64 instruction, and by offering 22-bit constant
loading for most of the instructions. With both options the bundle are
filled at approximately the same level.
* Up to 128 registers can be affected to a function on IA64, but TCG
limits this number to 64, which is actually more than enough. The
register affectation is the following:
- r0: used to map a constant argument with value 0
- r1: global pointer
- r2, r3: internal use
- r4 to r6: not used to avoid saving them
- r7: env structure
- r8 to r11: free for TCG (call clobbered)
- r12: stack pointer
- r13: thread pointer
- r14 to r31: free for TCG (call clobbered)
- r32: reserved (return address)
- r33: reserved (PFS)
- r33 to r63: free for TCG
* The IA64 architecture has only 64-bit registers and no 32-bit
instructions (the only exception being cmp4). Therefore 64-bit
registers and instructions are used for 32-bit ops. The adopted
strategy is the same as the ABI, that is the higher 32 bits are
undefined. Most ops (and, or, add, shl, etc.) can directly use
the 64-bit registers, while some others have to sign-extend (sar,
div, etc.) or zero-extend (shr, divu, etc.) the register first.

Use kinfo_getvmmap(3) on FeeBSD >= 7.x and /compat/linux/proc on older
FreeBSD. (kinfo_getvmmap is preferred since /compat/linux/proc is
usually only mounted on hosts also using the Linuxolator.)
This patch is a bit hacky because the includes needed for kinfo_getvmmap
conflict with other definitions in exec.c by default so I had to `trick
around' a little, but I built the result in FreeBSD 6.4-stable and
7.2-stable tbs and on 8-stable on the host so the hacks at least
should be stable. (If this is a problem maybe we could also move the
kinfo_getvmmap invocations into a seperate source file but that would
be more work...)

These files are created by configure and grow
unnecessarily at each new call of configure:
roms/seabios/config.mak
roms/vgabios/config.mak
libhw32/config.mak
libhw64/config.mak
libhw32/config.mak and libhw64/config.mak set
compiler options, and the wrong old code results
in very long command lines.
The new code always writes a new config.mak
instead of appending to an existing one.

To create html output from texi input, texi2html was used.
Output from makeinfo looks cleaner, so replace the old rule
and use makeinfo now.
For those who want to use their own variant of html output,
the macros MAKEINFO and MAKEINFOFLAGS allow customisation.
Option "-I ." is not needed (the current directory is
searched by default), so remove it.
Please note that the build requirements changed, too:
makeinfo is required for doc builds.
texi2html is no longer used.

Starting with mingw32-runtime 3.15, C99/POSIX
format strings (%zu, %lld, ...) are supported
by defining __USE_MINGW_ANSI_STDIO=1.
As QEMU uses such format strings, unconditionally
define this macro. It won't hurt on older revisions
of mingw32-runtime.
Tested with manually installed mingw32-runtime 3.15
on debian (cross compiled + wine).

Commit a0f291fc10 has enabled
-fstack-protector-all on all targets, as the configure test is bogus.
GCC only emits a warning and not an error if this option is not
supported, so the configure scripts doesn't detect the problem.
This patch changes the configure script to try the various flags
with -Werror in addition to catch the possible warnings.

Add has() and path_of() funcs and use them across configure; has()
will test whether a command or builtin is available; path_of() will
search the PATH for executables and return the full pathname if found.

The default value is ${prefix}/etc/qemu. --sysconfdir can be used to override
the default to an absolute path. The expectation is that when installed to
/usr, --sysconfdir=/etc/qemu will be used.

After the next commit, pkg-config could be used for the shared library
configuration case and sdl-config for static libraries. So I prepare
the test here by doing two changes:
at the same time I remove useless backslashes from the invocation of
grep;
1) fixing a typo ($sd_cflags). The typo has been there since commit
1ac88f2 (remove sdl_static. Just do the right thing if static is yes,
2009-07-27).
2) fixing an erroneous "test `... | grep > /dev/null`" idiom that would
never succeed since grep's output would be empty;
3) checking the status code after executing sdl-config --static --libs;
this is needed for the next patch only.

Juan has contributed a cool Makefile infrastructure that enables us to drop
static libraries completely:
Move shared obj-y definitions to Makefile.objs, prefixed {common-,hw-,user-},
and link those object files directly into the executables.
Replace HWLIB by HWDIR, specifying only the directory.
Drop --whole-archive and ARLIBS in Makefiles and configure.
Drop GENERATED_HEADERS dependency in rules.mak, since this rebuilds all
common objects after generating a target-specific header; add dependency
rules to Makefile and Makefile.target instead.

qemu_malloc() does not allow size=0 to be passed in and aborts on this behavior.
Unfortunately, there is good reason to believe that within qemu, there are a
number of, so far, undetected places that assume size=0 can be safely passed.
Since we do not want to abort unnecessarily in production builds, return
qemu_malloc(1) whenever the version file indicates that this is a production
build.

S390x was one of the first platforms that received support for KVM back in the
day. Unfortunately until now there hasn't been a qemu implementation that would
enable users to actually run guests.

linux-user build on fedora 11 breaks because fallocate
is broken on that system if -D_GNU_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64
are specified, which is what QEMU uses.
We do have a configure check to catch this and disable fallocate,
however, it turns out that default QEMU_CFLAGS/LDFLAGS were assigned in
script *after* all compiler checks: so during checks we were not running
compiler with same flags that we used for build later.
Fix this by moving QEMU_CFLAGS to before compiler checks, and using
comple_prog when checking for fallocate. This also fixes the fact that
we do some compiler checks while assigning the flags, right below a
comment that says "no cc tests beyond this point".

A few words about design choices:
* Two registers, at and t0, are reserved for TCG internal use. They are
useful for bswap and 64-bit ops.
* Most ops supports a constant argument with value 0, which is actually
mapped to the zero register.
* While the at register is available for constant loading, ops only
support a limited range of constants. TCG does a better job doing the
register allocation and constant loading by itself. There are plenty of
registers available anyway.

Add makefile dependencies for target specific device configs.
These will copy the default config if none exists, obsoleting the old
configure time code. If a config already exists but is older than the
default then print a warning.
Also remove config-devices.h. Code does not and should not care which
devices are being built.

We have code for a quite a few block formats. While I trust that all
of these formats are useful at least for some people in some
circumstances, some of them are of a kind that friends don't let
friends use in production.
This patch provides an optional block format whitelist, default off.
If a whitelist is configured with --block-drv-whitelist, QEMU proper
can use only whitelisted formats. Other programs, like qemu-img, are
not affected.
Drivers for formats off the whitelist still participate in format
probing, to ensure all programs probe exactly the same. Without that,
QEMU proper would be prone to treat images with a format off the
whitelist as raw when the image's format is probed.

You would only see this error on a fresh clone when srcdir == objdir. configure
will fail because roms/pcbios doesn't exist.
git submodule integration doesn't cleanup very well when switching between
branches so you'll get an roms/pcbios directory from normal operations if you
switch between old branches.
Thanks to a mistake in configure, if you build outside of srcdir, you'll also
get a valid roms/pcbios.

There is a link hack in linux-user which produces an executable that
looks like PIE, but always has text relocations since all object files
isn't position-independent (compiled without -fpic/-fpie). Dynamic loader
has to do more work to load a binary with text relocations.
The best way to keep this functionality is to build a true PIE without
text relocations.

CMSG_ and TIOCWIN macros defined. But then _POSIX_C_SOURCE gets defined, which
is (incorrectly) used as an indicator for existence of posix_memalign() in osdep.c.

Now that do have a nicer interface to work against we can add Linux native
AIO support. It's an extremly thing layer just setting up an iocb for
the io_submit system call in the submission path, and registering an
eventfd with the qemu poll handler to do complete the iocbs directly
from there.
This started out based on Anthony's earlier AIO patch, but after
estimated 42,000 rewrites and just as many build system changes
there's not much left of it.
To enable native kernel aio use the aio=native sub-command on the
drive command line. I have also added an option to qemu-io to
test the aio support without needing a guest.

kqemu introduces a number of restrictions on the i386 target. The worst is that
it prevents large memory from working in the default build.
Furthermore, kqemu is fundamentally flawed in a number of ways. It relies on
the TSC as a time source which will not be reliable on a multiple processor
system in userspace. Since most modern processors are multicore, this severely
limits the utility of kqemu.
kvm is a viable alternative for people looking to accelerate qemu and has the
benefit of being supported by the upstream Linux kernel. If someone can
implement work arounds to remove the restrictions introduced by kqemu, I'm
happy to avoid and/or revert this patch.
N.B. kqemu will still function in the 0.11 series but this patch removes it from
the 0.12 series.

Second attempt failed due to $_ not being standard and as such it's
interpretation by certain shells when they were symlinked to /bin/sh
and invoked as such led to unpredictable results. So instead of trying
to be clever just use /bin/sh directly (That's what direct execution
would have led to anyway)

When starting a qemu binary directly from the build directory and that

In order to build the multiboot option rom, we need a Makefile and a tool
to sign the rom with.
Both are provided by this patch and mostly taken from the extboot source,
written by Anthony Liguori.
Once built, the resulting binary gets copied to pc-bios automatically.
Building also occurs automatically when on an x86 host.

The glibc function for utimensat glibc returns -EINVAL when the path is null
which is a different behaviour with the syscall.
path can be null because internally the glibc is using utimensat with
path null when implmenting futimens. If path is null, call futimes
instead.
don't try to copy timespec from user if is NULL.

Currently Qemu can read from posix I/O and NBD. This patch adds a
third protocol to the game: HTTP.
In certain situations it can be useful to access HTTP data directly,
for example if you want to try out an http provided OS image, but
don't know if you want to download it yet.
Using this patch you can now try it on on the fly. Just use it like:
qemu -cdrom http://host/path/my.iso

--disable-gfx-check predates VNC server support. It made sense back then
because the only thing you could do without SDL was use -nographic mode or
similar tricks. Since this is a very advanced mode of operation, gfx-check
provided a good safety net for casual users.
A casual user is very likely to use VNC to interact with a guest. In fact, it's
often frustrating to install QEMU on a server and have to specify
disable-gfx-check when you only want to use VNC.
This patch eliminates disable-gfx-check and makes SDL behave like every other
optional dependency. If SDL is not available, instead of failing ungracefully
if no special options are specified, we default to -vnc localhost:0,to=99.
When we do default to VNC, we also print a message to tell the user that we've
done this include which port we're currently listening on.

The only target dependency for most hardware is sizeof(target_phys_addr_t).
Build these files into a convenience library, and use that instead of
building for every target.
Remove and poison various target specific macros to avoid bogus target
dependencies creeping back in.
Big/Little endian is not handled because devices should not know or care
about this to start with.

kqemu.o is compiled even if kqemu support is disabled. This is useless
(kqemu.o should provide nothing that is actually used in that case) and
slightly confusing. So introduce CONFIG_KQEMU for optionally compiling
kqemu.o.

The openat/*at syscalls are incredibly common with modern coreutils,
calling them directly via syscalls breaks for example fakeroot. Use
glibc stubs whenever directly available and provide old syscall
calling for people still using older libc.

This patch allows DEBUG_TCGV to be defined (and also prevents NDEBUG
from being defined) when passing an option to the configure script.
This should help to prevent any accidental changes that enable
DEBUG_TCGV in tcg/tcg.h from being committed in future, and may
help to encourage testing with DEBUG_TCGV enabled.

This ties up the preadv/pwritev syscalls to qemu if they are declared in
unistd.h. This is the case currently on at least NetBSD and OpenBSD and
will hopefully soon be the case on Linux.

This patch adds a new qemu-io tool that links against the block layer and
image formats and allow to exercise them without needing a guest image.
It is inspired by the xfs_io tool which does the same for plain file I/O.
In fact the libxcmd library which is the backend of xfs_io is reused by this
tool in a limited fashing (cmd.[ch] files).
This version tests out most of the plain block I/O commands with the
most notable absent commands beeing snapshot handling and real aio.
This tool is the basis of the I/O path test suite I'm working on right now.

Currently qemu unconditionally strips binaries on install. This
is a problem for packagers who may want to store/ship debug symbols
of compiled packages for debugging purposes.
Keep stripping as default for the oldtimers and add a
--disable-strip flag to override.

This patch introduces a generic internal API for access control lists
to be used by network servers in QEMU. It adds support for checking
these ACL in the VNC server, in two places. The first ACL is for the
SASL authentication mechanism, checking the SASL username. This ACL
is called 'vnc.username'. The second is for the TLS authentication
mechanism, when x509 client certificates are turned on, checking against
the Distinguished Name of the client. This ACL is called 'vnc.x509dname'
The internal API provides for an ACL with the following characteristics
- A unique name, eg vnc.username, and vnc.x509dname.
- A default policy, allow or deny
- An ordered series of match rules, with allow or deny policy
If none of the match rules apply, then the default policy is
used.
There is a monitor API to manipulate the ACLs, which I'll describe via
examples

By default the VNC server will not use any ACLs, allowing access to
the server if the user successfully authenticates. To enable use of
ACLs to restrict user access, the ',acl' flag should be given when

and should be customized using monitor commands.

This patch adds the new SASL authentication protocol to the VNC server.
It is enabled by setting the 'sasl' flag when launching VNC. SASL can
optionally provide encryption via its SSF layer, if a suitable mechanism
is configured (eg, GSSAPI/Kerberos, or Digest-MD5). If an SSF layer is
not available, then it should be combined with the x509 VNC authentication
protocol which provides encryption.

By default the Cyrus SASL library will look for its configuration in
the file /etc/sasl2/qemu.conf. For non-root users, this can be overridden
by setting the SASL_CONF_PATH environment variable, eg to make it look in
$HOME/.sasl2. NB unprivileged users may not have access to the full range
of SASL mechanisms, since some of them require some administrative privileges
to configure. The patch includes an example SASL configuration file which
illustrates config for GSSAPI and Digest-MD5, though it should be noted that
the latter is not really considered secure any more.
Most of the SASL authentication code is located in a separate source file,
vnc-auth-sasl.c. The main vnc.c file only contains minimal integration
glue, specifically parsing of command line flags / setup, and calls to
start the SASL auth process, to do encoding/decoding for data.
There are several possible stacks for reading & writing of data, depending
on the combo of VNC authentication methods in use
- Clear. read/write straight to socket
- TLS. read/write via GNUTLS helpers
- SASL. encode/decode via SASL SSF layer, then read/write to socket
- SASL+TLS. encode/decode via SASL SSF layer, then read/write via GNUTLS
Hence, the vnc_client_read & vnc_client_write methods have been refactored
a little.
vnc_client_read: main entry point for reading, calls either
- vnc_client_read_plain reading, with no intermediate decoding
- vnc_client_read_sasl reading, with SASL SSF decoding
These two methods, then call vnc_client_read_buf(). This decides
whether to write to the socket directly or write via GNUTLS.
The situation is the same for writing data. More extensive comments
have been added in the code / patch. The vnc_client_read_sasl and
vnc_client_write_sasl method implementations live in the separate
vnc-auth-sasl.c file.
The state required for the SASL auth mechanism is kept in a separate
VncStateSASL struct, defined in vnc-auth-sasl.h and included in the
main VncState.
The configure script probes for SASL and automatically enables it
if found, unless --disable-vnc-sasl was given to override it.

by default uses 32-bit userspace applications, so the detection for
the host architecture fails.
This patch enabled building of x86_64 code on x86_64 capable CPUS
with Mac OS X.

These files are nearly identical to the XML files provided with GDB.
The only difference is that power-{fpu,spe}.xml do not assign register
numbers; the internal QEMU machinery takes care of that.
Define gdb_xml_files for ppc targets in configure as well.

The patch applies to upstream qemu as well as kvm-userspace, but since it is
the qemu configure script I think it should go to upstream qemu (Anthony)
first and with the next merge to kvm-userspace. On the other hand it is the kvm
probe so an ack from Avi in case v3 is ok would be reasonable.

This patch is about reporting more details of the issue if configuring kvm
fails. Therefore this patch keeps the qemu style configure output which is a
list of "$Feature $Status", but extend the "no" result like "KVM Support no"
with some more information.
There might be a lot of things going wrong with that probe and I don't want
to handle all of them, but if it is one of the known checks e.g. for
KVM_API_VERSION then we could grep/awk that out and report it. The patch
reports in case of a known case in the style
"KVM support no - (Missing KVM capability KVM_CAP_DESTROY_MEMORY_REGION_WORKS)"
In case more than one #error is triggered it creates a comma separated list in
those brackets and in case it is something else than an #error it just reports
plain old "no".

There is already a variable kvm_cflags which gets the path of the kernel
includes when using --kerneldir. But eventually with newer kernels we all will
need arch/$arch/include too (my case was a incldue of asm/kvm.h which was not
found anymore). Headers in a full kernel source are not flattened to
one arch like they are if e.g. installed kernel headers are used.
To fix that, the includes added to cflags depending on --kerneldir should also
contian the arch includes. The patch adds a special check for x86 because its
source layout recently changed, all others directly use arch/$cpu/include if
existent.

We have been relying on uname to determine the host cpu architecture and
operating system. This is totally broken for cross compilation. It was
workable in the past because you can manually override both settings but after
the host USB passthrough refactoring, cross host builds were broken.
This moves the parsing of --cc and --cross-prefix to before the probes for cpu
and host. Complation testing is used to determine the host and CPU types. I've
only added checks for i386, x86_64, Linux, and Windows since these are the only
platforms I have access to for testing. Everything else falls back to uname.
It should be relatively easy to add the right checks for other platforms and
eliminate uname altogether.
