Alternates are sum types like unions, but use the JSON type on the
wire / QType in QObject instead of an explicit tag. That's why we
require alternate members to have distinct QTypes.
The recently introduced keyval_parse() (commit d454dbe) can only
produce string scalars. The qobject_input_visitor_new_keyval() input
visitor mostly hides the difference, so code using a QObject input
visitor doesn't have to care whether its input was parsed from JSON or
KEY=VALUE,... The difference leaks for alternates, as noted in commit
0ee9ae7: a non-string, non-enum scalar alternate value can't currently
be expressed.
In part, this is just our insufficiently sophisticated implementation.
Consider alternate type 'GuestFileWhence'. It has an integer member
and a 'QGASeek' member. The latter is an enumeration with values
'set', 'cur', 'end'. The meaning of b=set, b=cur, b=end, b=0, b=1 and
so forth is perfectly obvious. However, our current implementation
falls apart at run time for b=0, b=1, and so forth. Fixable, but not
today; add a test case and a TODO comment.
Now consider an alternate type with a string and an integer member.
What's the meaning of a=42? Is it the string "42" or the integer 42?
Whichever meaning you pick makes the other inexpressible. This isn't
just an implementation problem, it's fundamental. Our current
implementation will pick string.
So far, we haven't needed such alternates. To make sure we stop and
think before we add one that cannot sanely work with keyval_parse(),
let's require alternate members to have sufficiently distinct
representation in KEY=VALUE,... syntax:
* A string member clashes with any other scalar member
* An enumeration member clashes with bool members when it has value
'on' or 'off'.
* An enumeration member clashes with numeric members when it has a
value that starts with '-', '+', or a decimal digit. This is a
rather lazy approximation of the actual number syntax accepted by
the visitor.
Note that enumeration values starting with '-' and '+' are rejected
elsewhere already, but better safe than sorry.

The QObject input visitor can produce only finite numbers when its
input comes out of the JSON parser, because the the JSON parser
implements RFC 7159, which provides no syntax for infinity and NaN.
However, it can produce infinity and NaN when its input comes out of
keyval_parse(), because we parse with strtod() then.
The keyval variant should not be able to express things the JSON
variant can't. Rejecting non-finite numbers there is the conservative
fix. It's also minimally invasive.
We could instead extend our JSON dialect to provide for infinity and
NaN. Not today.
Note that the JSON formatter can emit non-finite numbers (marked FIXME

When converting a 1.1 image down to 0.10, qemu-iotests 060 forces
a contrived failure where allocating a cluster used to replace a

Outside blockjob.c, block_job_unref is only used when a block job fails
to start, and block_job_ref is not used at all. The reference counting
thus is pretty well hidden. Introduce a separate function to be used

Libvirt would like to be able to distinguish between a SHUTDOWN
event triggered solely by guest request and one triggered by a
SIGTERM or other action on the host. While qemu_kill_report() was
already able to give different output to stderr based on whether a
shutdown was triggered by a host signal (but NOT by a host UI event,
such as clicking the X on the window), that information was then
lost to management. The previous patches improved things to use an
enum throughout all callsites, so now we have something ready to
expose through QMP.
Note that for now, the decision was to expose ONLY a boolean,
rather than promoting ShutdownCause to a QAPI enum; this is because
libvirt has not expressed an interest in anything finer-grained.
We can still add additional details, in a backwards-compatible
manner, if a need later arises (if the addition happens before 2.10,
we can replace the bool with an enum; otherwise, the enum will have
to be in addition to the bool); this patch merely adds a helper
shutdown_caused_by_guest() to map the internal enum into the
external boolean.
Update expected iotest outputs to match the new data (complete
coverage of the affected tests is obtained by -raw, -qcow2, and -nbd).
Here is output from 'virsh qemu-monitor-event --loop' with the
patch installed:
event SHUTDOWN at 1492639680.731251 for domain fedora_13: {"guest":true}
event STOP at 1492639680.732116 for domain fedora_13: <null>
event SHUTDOWN at 1492639680.732830 for domain fedora_13: {"guest":false}
Note that libvirt runs qemu with -no-shutdown: the first SHUTDOWN event
was triggered by an action I took directly in the guest (shutdown -h),
at which point qemu stops the vcpus and waits for libvirt to do any
final cleanups; the second SHUTDOWN event is the result of libvirt
sending SIGTERM now that it has completed cleanup. Libvirt is already
smart enough to only feed the first qemu SHUTDOWN event to the end user
(remember, virsh qemu-monitor-event is a low-level debugging interface
that is explicitly unsupported by libvirt, so it sees things that normal
end users do not); changing qemu to emit SHUTDOWN only once is outside
the scope of this series.

We've already improved discards to operate efficiently on the tail
of an unaligned qcow2 image; it's time to make a similar improvement
to write zeroes. The special case is only valid at the tail
cluster of a file, where we must recognize that any sectors beyond
the image end would implicitly read as zero, and therefore should
not penalize our logic for widening a partial cluster into writing
the whole cluster as zero.
However, note that for now, the special case of end-of-file is only
recognized if there is no backing file, or if the backing file has
the same length; that's because when the backing file is shorter
than the active layer, we don't have code in place to recognize
that reads of a sector unallocated at the top and beyond the backing
end-of-file are implicitly zero. It's not much of a real loss,
because most people don't use images that aren't cluster-aligned,
or where the active layer is a different size than the backing
layer (especially where the difference falls within a single cluster).
Update test 154 to cover the new scenarios, using two images of
intentionally differing length.
While at it, fix the test to gracefully skip when run as
./check -qcow2 -o compat=0.10 154
since the older format lacks zero clusters already required earlier
in the test.

No tests were covering write zeroes with unmap. Additionally,
I needed to prove that my previous patches for correct status
reporting and write zeroes optimizations actually had an impact.
The test works for cluster_size between 8k and 2M (for smaller
sizes, it fails because our allocation patterns are not contiguous
with small clusters - in part, the largest consecutive allocation
we tend to get is often bounded by the size covered by one L2
table).
Note that testing for zero clusters is tricky: 'qemu-io map'
reports whether data comes from the current layer of the image
(useful for sniffing out which regions of the file have
QCOW_OFLAG_ZERO) - but doesn't show which clusters have mappings;
while 'qemu-img map' sees "zero":true for both unallocated and
zero clusters for any qcow2 with no backing layer (so less useful
at detecting true zero clusters), but reliably shows mappings.
So we have to rely on both queries side-by-side at each point of
the test.

Although _filter_qemu_img_map documents that it scrubs offsets, it
was only doing so for human mode. Of the existing tests using the
filter (97, 122, 150, 154, 176), two of them are affected, but it
does not hurt the validity of the tests to not require particular
mappings (another test, 66, uses offsets but intentionally does not
pass through _filter_qemu_img_map, because it checks that offsets
are unchanged before and after an operation).
Another justification for this patch is that it will allow a future
patch to utilize 'qemu-img map --output=json' to check the status of
preallocated zero clusters without regards to the mapping (since
the qcow2 mapping can be very sensitive to the chosen cluster size,
when preallocation is not in use).

Treat plain zero clusters differently from allocated ones, so that
we can simplify the logic of checking whether an offset is present.
Do this by splitting QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO into two new enums,
QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO_PLAIN and QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO_ALLOC.
I tried to arrange the enum so that we could use
'ret <= QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO_PLAIN' for all unallocated types, and
'ret >= QCOW2_CLUSTER_ZERO_ALLOC' for allocated types, although
I didn't actually end up taking advantage of the layout.
In many cases, this leads to simpler code, by properly combining
cases (sometimes, both zero types pair together, other times,
plain zero is more like unallocated while allocated zero is more
like normal).

Use blkdebug's new geometry constraints to emulate setups that
have needed past regression fixes: write zeroes asserting
when running through a loopback block device with max-transfer
smaller than cluster size, and discard rounding away portions
of requests not aligned to preferred boundaries. Also, add
coverage that the block layer is honoring max transfer limits.
For now, a single iotest performs all actions, with the idea
that we can add future blkdebug constraint test cases in the
same file; but it can be split into multiple iotests if we find
reason to run one portion of the test in more setups than what
are possible in the other.
For reference, the final portion of the test (checking whether
discard passes as much as possible to the lowest layers of the
stack) works as follows:
qemu-io: discard 30M at 80000001, passed to blkdebug
blkdebug: discard 511 bytes at 80000001, -ENOTSUP (smaller than
blkdebug's 512 align)
blkdebug: discard 14371328 bytes at 80000512, passed to qcow2
qcow2: discard 739840 bytes at 80000512, -ENOTSUP (smaller than
qcow2's 1M align)
qcow2: discard 13M bytes at 77M, succeeds
blkdebug: discard 15M bytes at 90M, passed to qcow2
qcow2: discard 15M bytes at 90M, succeeds
blkdebug: discard 1356800 bytes at 105M, passed to qcow2

Mixing byte offset and sector allocation counts is a bit
confusing. Also, reporting n/m sectors, where m decreases
according to the remaining size of the file, isn't really
adding any useful information; and reporting an offset at
both the front and end of the line, with large amounts of
whitespace, is pointless. Update the output to use byte
counts and shorter lines, then adjust the affected tests
(./check -qcow2 102, ./check -vpc 146).
Note that 'qemu-io map' is MUCH weaker than 'qemu-img map';
the former only shows which regions of the active layer are
allocated, without regards to where the allocation comes from
or whether the allocated portion is known to read as zero
(because it is using the weaker bdrv_is_allocated()); while the
latter (especially in --output=json mode) reports more details
from bdrv_get_block_status().

Commit 62c39b3 introduced test-qga, and at face value, appears
to be testing the 'guest-sync' behavior that is recommended for
guests in sending 0xff to QGA to force the parser to reset. But
this aspect of the test has never actually done anything: the
qmp_fd() call chain converts its string argument into QObject,
then converts that QObject back to the actual string that is
sent over the wire - and the conversion process silently drops
the 0xff byte from the string sent to QGA, thus never resetting
the QGA parser.
An upcoming patch will get rid of the wasteful round trip
through QObject, at which point the string in test-qga will be
directly sent over the wire.
But fixing qmp_fd() to actually send 0xff over the wire is not
all we have to do - the actual QMP parser loudly complains that
0xff is not valid JSON, and sends an error message _prior_ to
actually parsing the 'guest-sync' or 'guest-sync-delimited'
command. With 'guest-sync', we cannot easily tell if this error
message is a result of our command - which is WHY we invented
the 'guest-sync-delimited' command. So for the testsuite, fix
things to only check 0xff behavior on 'guest-sync-delimited',
and to loop until we've consumed all garbage prior to the
requested delimiter, which is compatible with the documented actions
that a real QGA client is supposed to do.
Ideally, we'd fix the QGA JSON parser to silently ignore 0xff
rather than sending an error message back, at which point we
could enhance this test for 'guest-sync' as well as for
'guest-sync-delimited'. But for the sake of this patch, our
testing of 'guest-sync' is no worse than it was pre-patch,
because we have never been sending 0xff over the wire in the
first place.

Revision 1 FADTs do not contain the fields relating to the reset register.
The new layout and contents remains backwards-compatible with operating systems which only support ACPI 1.0, as the existing fields are not modified by this change, as the 64-bit and 32-bit variants are allowed to co-exist according to the ACPI 2.0 standard. As mentioned in commit 0c1bd46, we ignored requests to
discard the trailing cluster of an unaligned image. While
discard is an advisory operation from the guest standpoint,
(and we are therefore free to ignore any request), our
qcow2 implementation exploits the fact that a discarded
cluster reads back as 0. As long as we discard on cluster
boundaries, we are fine; but that means we could observe
non-zero data leaked at the tail of an unaligned image.

accept two clients at the same time (and thus it fails before this

This patch updates common.rc to launch qemu-nbd with -e 42 which should
be enough for all of our current and future tests.

Throttling has a weird property that throttle_get_config() does not
always return the same throttling settings that were given with
throttle_config(). In other words, the set and get functions aren't
symmetric.
If .max is 0 then the throttling code assigns a default value of .avg /
10 in throttle_config(). This is an implementation detail of the
throttling algorithm. When throttle_get_config() is called the .max
value returned should still be 0.
Users are exposed to this quirk via "info block" or "query-block"
monitor commands. This has caused confusion because it looks like a bug
when an unexpected value is reported.
This patch hides the .max value adjustment in throttle_get_config() and
updates test-throttle.c appropriately.

BDRV_POLL_WHILE waits for the started I/O by releasing bs's ctx then polling
the main context, which relies on the yielded coroutine continuing on bs->ctx
before notifying qemu_aio_context with bdrv_wakeup().
Thus, using qemu_coroutine_enter to start I/O is wrong because if the coroutine
is entered from main loop, co->ctx will be qemu_aio_context, as a result of the
"release, poll, acquire" loop of BDRV_POLL_WHILE, race conditions happen when
both main thread and the iothread access the same BDS:
main loop iothread
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
blockdev_snapshot
aio_context_acquire(bs->ctx)
virtio_scsi_data_plane_handle_cmd
bdrv_drained_begin(bs->ctx)
bdrv_flush(bs)
bdrv_co_flush(bs) aio_context_acquire(bs->ctx).enter
...
qemu_coroutine_yield(co)
BDRV_POLL_WHILE()
aio_context_release(bs->ctx)
aio_context_acquire(bs->ctx).return
...
aio_co_wake(co)
aio_poll(qemu_aio_context) ...
co_schedule_bh_cb() ...
qemu_coroutine_enter(co) ...
/* (A) bdrv_co_flush(bs) /* (B) I/O on bs */
continues... */
aio_context_release(bs->ctx)
aio_context_acquire(bs->ctx)
Note that in above case, bdrv_drained_begin() doesn't do the "release,
poll, acquire" in BDRV_POLL_WHILE, because bs->in_flight == 0.
Fix this by using bdrv_coroutine_enter and enter coroutine in the right
context.
iotests 109 output is updated because the coroutine reenter flow during
mirror job complete is different (now through co_queue_wakeup, instead
of the unconditional qemu_coroutine_switch before), making the end job

SocketAddress is a simple union, and simple unions are awkward: they
have their variant members wrapped in a "data" object on the wire, and
require additional indirections in C. I intend to limit its use to
existing external interfaces, and convert all internal interfaces to
SocketAddressFlat.
BlockdevOptionsNbd is an external interface using SocketAddress. We
already use SocketAddressFlat elsewhere in blockdev-add. Replace it
by SocketAddressFlat while we can (it's new in 2.9) for simplicity and
consistency. For example,
{ "execute": "blockdev-add",
"arguments": { "node-name": "foo", "driver": "nbd",
"server": { "type": "inet",
"data": { "host": "localhost",
"port": "12345" } } } }
becomes
{ "execute": "blockdev-add",
"arguments": { "node-name": "foo", "driver": "nbd",
"server": { "type": "inet",
"host": "localhost", "port": "12345" } } }
Since the internal interfaces still take SocketAddress, this requires
conversion function socket_address_crumple(). It'll go away when I
update the interfaces.
Unfortunately, SocketAddress is also visible in -drive since 2.8:
-drive if=none,driver=nbd,server.type=inet,server.data.host=127.0.0.1,server.data.port=12345
Nobody should be using it, as it's fairly new and has never been
documented, so adding still more compatibility gunk to keep it working
isn't worth the trouble. You now have to use
-drive if=none,driver=nbd,server.type=inet,server.host=127.0.0.1,server.port=12345

comments are mandatory. That's a very good idea for a schema that
needs to be documented, but has proven to be annoying for testing.
Make doc comments optional again, but add a new directive
{ 'pragma': { 'doc-required': true } }
to let a QAPI schema require them.
Add test cases for the new pragma directive. While there, plug a
minor hole in includ directive test coverage.
Require documentation in the schemas we actually want documented:
qapi-schema.json and qga/qapi-schema.json.
We could probably make qapi2texi.py cope with incomplete
documentation, but for now, simply make it refuse to run unless the
schema has 'doc-required': true.

Additionally permit non-negative integers as key components. A
dictionary's keys must either be all integers or none. If all keys
are integers, convert the dictionary to a list. The set of keys must
be [0,N].
Examples:
* list.1=goner,list.0=null,list.1=eins,list.2=zwei
is equivalent to JSON [ "null", "eins", "zwei" ]
* a.b.c=1,a.b.0=2
is inconsistent: a.b.c clashes with a.b.0
* list.0=null,list.2=eins,list.2=zwei
has a hole: list.1 is missing
Similar design flaw as for objects: there is no way to denote an empty
list. While interpreting "key absent" as empty list seems natural
(removing a list member from the input string works when there are
multiple ones, so why not when there's just one), it doesn't work:
"key absent" already means "optional list absent", which isn't the
same as "empty list present".
Update the keyval object visitor to use this a.0 syntax in error
messages rather than the usual a[0].

Currently the QObjectInputVisitor assumes that all scalar values are
directly represented as the final types declared by the thing being
visited. i.e. it assumes an 'int' is using QInt, and a 'bool' is using
QBool, etc. This is good when QObjectInputVisitor is fed a QObject
that came from a JSON document on the QMP monitor, as it will strictly
validate correctness.
To allow QObjectInputVisitor to be reused for visiting a QObject
originating from keyval_parse(), an alternative mode is needed where
all the scalars types are represented as QString and converted on the

keyval_parse() parses KEY=VALUE,... into a QDict. Works like
qemu_opts_parse(), except:
* Returns a QDict instead of a QemuOpts (d'oh).
* Supports nesting, unlike QemuOpts: a KEY is split into key
fragments at '.' (dotted key convention; the block layer does
something similar on top of QemuOpts). The key fragments are QDict
keys, and the last one's value is updated to VALUE.
* Each key fragment may be up to 127 bytes long. qemu_opts_parse()
limits the entire key to 127 bytes.
* Overlong key fragments are rejected. qemu_opts_parse() silently
truncates them.
* Empty key fragments are rejected. qemu_opts_parse() happily
accepts empty keys.
* It does not store the returned value. qemu_opts_parse() stores it
in the QemuOptsList.
* It does not treat parameter "id" specially. qemu_opts_parse()
ignores all but the first "id", and fails when its value isn't
id_wellformed(), or duplicate (a QemuOpts with the same ID is
already stored). It also screws up when a value contains ",id=".
* Implied value is not supported. qemu_opts_parse() desugars "foo" to
"foo=on", and "nofoo" to "foo=off".
* An implied key's value can't be empty, and can't contain ','.
I intend to grow this into a saner replacement for QemuOpts. It'll
take time, though.
Note: keyval_parse() provides no way to do lists, and its key syntax
is incompatible with the __RFQDN_ prefix convention for downstream
extensions, because it blindly splits at '.', even in __RFQDN_. Both
issues will be addressed later in the series.

The way we get QMP commands registered is high tech:
* qapi-commands.py generates qmp_init_marshal() that does the actual work
* it also generates the magic to register it as a MODULE_INIT_QAPI
function, so it runs when someone calls
module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI)
* main() calls module_call_init()
QEMU needs to register a few non-qapified commands. Same high tech
works: monitor.c has its own qmp_init_marshal() along with the magic
to make it run in module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI).
QEMU also needs to unregister commands that are not wanted in this
build's configuration (commit 5032a16). Simple enough:
qmp_unregister_commands_hack(). The difficulty is to make it run
after the generated qmp_init_marshal(). We can't simply run it in
monitor.c's qmp_init_marshal(), because the order in which the
registered functions run is indeterminate. So qmp_init_marshal()
registers qmp_unregister_commands_hack() separately. Since
registering *appends* to the list of registered functions, this will
make it run after all the functions that have been registered already.
I suspect it takes a long and expensive computer science education to
not find this silly.
Dumb it down as follows:
* Drop MODULE_INIT_QAPI entirely
* Give the generated qmp_init_marshal() external linkage.
* Call it instead of module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI)
* Except in QEMU proper, call new monitor_init_qmp_commands() that in
turn calls the generated qmp_init_marshal(), registers the
additional commands and unregisters the unwanted ones.

{"error": {"class": "GenericError", "desc": "Expected 'object' in QMP input"}}
Correct output for input 'null'.

$ echo -n 'null { "execute": "qmp_capabilities" }' | socat UNIX:qmp-socket STDIO

ppc patch queuye for 2017-03-03
This will probably be my last pull request before the hard freeze. It
has some new work, but that has all been posted in draft before the
soft freeze, so I think it's reasonable to include in qemu-2.9.
This batch has:
* A substantial amount of POWER9 work
* Implements the legacy (hash) MMU for POWER9
* Some more preliminaries for implementing the POWER9 radix
MMU
* POWER9 has_work
* Basic POWER9 compatibility mode handling
* Removal of some premature tests
* Some cleanups and fixes to the existing MMU code to make the
POWER9 work simpler
* A bugfix for TCG multiply adds on power
* Allow pseries guests to access PCIe extended config space
This also includes a code-motion not strictly in ppc code - moving
getrampagesize() from ppc code to exec.c. This will make some future
VFIO improvements easier, Paolo said it was ok to merge via my tree.

A couple of tests for the work-in-progress 'powernv' machine type attempt
to test on POWER9 CPUs. However the POWER9 CPU support is incomplete and
this doesn't really work. In particular the firmware image we have
currently assumes the presence of the SDR1 register, which no longer exists
on POWER9. We only got away with this so far, because of a different bug
which added SDR1 to POWER9 even though it shouldn't be there.
For now, remove POWER9 testing of powernv, POWER8 testing will do for now
until the POWER9 support is more complete.

Aborting on error in bdrv_append() isn't correct. This patch fixes it
and lets the callers handle failures.
Test case 085 needs a reference output update. This is caused by the
reversed order of bdrv_set_backing_hd() and change_parent_backing_link()
in bdrv_append(): When the backing file of the new node is set, the
parent nodes are still pointing to the old top, so the backing blocker
is now initialised with the node name rather than the BlockBackend name.

The mirror block job is mainly used for two different scenarios:
Mirroring to an otherwise unused, independent target node, or for active
commit where the target node is part of the backing chain of the source.
Similarly to the commit block job patch, we need to insert a new filter
node to keep the permissions correct during active commit.
Note that one change this implies is that job->blk points to
mirror_top_bs as its root now, and mirror_top_bs (rather than the actual
source node) contains the bs->job pointer. This requires qemu-img commit
to get the job by name now rather than just taking bs->job.

The backup block job doesn't have very complicated requirements: It
needs to read from the source and write to the target, but it's fine
with either side being changed. The only restriction is that we can't
resize the image because the job uses a cached value.
qemu-iotests 055 needs to be changed because it used a target which was
already attached to a virtio-blk device. The permission system correctly
forbids this (virtio-blk can't accept another writer with its default
share-rw=off).

blk_insert_bs() and block job related functions will soon require an

driver), so let our tests be consistent with the real users in this
respect.

The way that attaching bs->file worked was a bit unusual in that it was
the only child that would be attached to a node which is not opened yet.
Because of this, the block layer couldn't know yet which permissions the
driver would eventually need.
This patch moves the point where bs->file is attached to the beginning
of the individual .bdrv_open() implementations, so drivers already know
what they are going to do with the child. This is also more consistent
with how driver-specific children work.
For a moment, bdrv_open() gets its own BdrvChild to perform image
probing, but instead of directly assigning this BdrvChild to the BDS, it
becomes a temporary one and the node name is passed as an option to the
drivers, so that they can simply use bdrv_open_child() to create another
reference for their own use.
This duplicated child for (the not opened yet) bs is not the final
state, a follow-up patch will change the image probing code to use a
BlockBackend, which is completely independent of bs.

on the basic Debian image to allow cross compiling to those targets.
A new environment variable (QEMU_CONFIGURE_OPTS) is set as part of the

Currently all docker builds are done by exporting a tarball to the
docker container and running the build as the containers root user.
Other use cases are possible however and it is possible to map a part
of users file-system to the container. This is useful for example for
doing cross-builds of arbitrary source trees. For this to work
smoothly the container needs to have a user created that maps cleanly
to the host system.
This adds a -u option to the docker script so that:
DEB_ARCH=armhf DEB_TYPE=stable ./tests/docker/docker.py build \
-u --include-executable=arm-linux-user/qemu-arm \
debian:armhf ./tests/docker/dockerfiles/debian-bootstrap.docker
Will build a container that can then be run like:
docker run --rm -it -v /home/alex/lsrc/qemu/risu.git/:/src \
--user=alex:alex -w /src/ debian:armhf \
sh -c "make clean && ./configure -s && make"
All docker containers built will add the current user unless
explicitly disabled by specifying NOUSER when invoking the Makefile:
make docker-image-debian-armhf-cross NOUSER=1

null and the conversion doesn't consume the string completely.
Matches how qemu_strtol() & friends work.
Only test_qemu_strtosz_simple() passes a null @endptr. No functional
change there, because its conversion consumes the string.
Simplify callers that use @endptr only to fail when it doesn't point

The PC machines (pc-q35-* pc-i440fx-* pc-* isapc xenfv) automatically
create lsi53c895a SCSI HBAs and SCSI devices to honor -drive if=scsi.
For giggles, try -drive if=scsi,bus=25,media=cdrom --- this makes QEMU
create 25 of them.
lsi53c895a is thoroughly obsolete (PCI Ultra2 SCSI, ca. 2000), and
currently has no maintainer in QEMU. megasas is a better choice,
except with old OSes that lack drivers. virtio-scsi is a much better
choice when you have a driver, but only (newish) Linux comes with one
in the box. There is no good default that works for all guests.
Encourage users to pick a non-obsolete SCSI HBA that works for them by
deprecating -drive if=scsi.

Add two implementations of the same benchmark as the previous patch,
but using pthreads. One uses a normal QemuMutex, the other is Linux
only and implements a fair mutex based on MCS locks and futexes.
This shows that the slower performance of the 5-thread case is due to
the fairness of CoMutex, rather than to coroutines. If fairness does
not matter, as is the case with two threads, CoMutex can actually be
faster than pthreads.

aio_co_wake provides the infrastructure to start a coroutine on a "home"
AioContext. It will be used by CoMutex and CoQueue, so that coroutines
don't jump from one context to another when they go to sleep on a
mutex or waitqueue. However, it can also be used as a more efficient
alternative to one-shot bottom halves, and saves the effort of tracking
which AioContext a coroutine is running on.
aio_co_schedule is the part of aio_co_wake that starts a coroutine
on a remove AioContext, but it is also useful to implement e.g.
bdrv_set_aio_context callbacks.
The implementation of aio_co_schedule is based on a lock-free
multiple-producer, single-consumer queue. The multiple producers use
cmpxchg to add to a LIFO stack. The consumer (a per-AioContext bottom
half) grabs all items added so far, inverts the list to make it FIFO,
and goes through it one item at a time until it's empty. The data
structure was inspired by OSv, which uses it in the very code we'll
"port" to QEMU for the thread-safe CoMutex.
Most of the new code is really tests.

AioContext is fairly self contained, the only dependency is QEMUTimer but
that in turn doesn't need anything else. So move them out of block-obj-y
to avoid introducing a dependency from io/ to block-obj-y.
main-loop and its dependency iohandler also need to be moved, because
later in this series io/ will call iohandler_get_aio_context.

When 144 is testing $TEST_DIR/tmp.qcow2, it wants to replace
$TEST_DIR/tmp.qcow2 to TEST_DIR/tmp.qcow2, but actually it will fail

Peter Maydell recently ran into time-out problems with the
prom-env test on a rather slow ARM board. To tackle this issue,
we can speed up the test by running QEMU with "-nodefaults" for
the pseries machine, so that SLOF has less devices to scan during
boot, and by using the "nvramrc" environment variable instead of
"boot-command", since this variable is evaluated earlier in the
boot process.
And to be really sure that we do not face such time out problems
again, let's also increase the time out value from 100s to 120s

* Add pseries-2.9 machine type
* Implement H_SIGNAL_SYS_RESET hypercall
* Consolidate the two alternate CPU init paths in pseries by

* Stop the guest timebase when the guest is stopped under KVM.
This makes the guest system clock also stop when paused, which
matches the x86 behaviour.
* Some preliminary cleanups leading towards implementation of the

There are also some changes not strictly related to ppc code, but for
its benefit:
* Limit the pxi-expander-bridge (PXB) device to x86 guests only

As the name suggests, the qapi2texi script converts JSON QAPI
description into a texi file suitable for different target
formats (info/man/txt/pdf/html...).
It parses the following kind of blocks:
Free-form:
##
# = Section
# == Subsection
#
# Some text foo with *emphasis*
# 1. with a list
# 2. like that
#
# And some code:
# | $ echo foo
# | -> do this
# | <- get that
#
##
Symbol description:
##
# @symbol:
#
# Symbol body ditto ergo sum. Foo bar
# baz ding.
#
# @param1: the frob to frobnicate
# @param2: #optional how hard to frobnicate
#
# Returns: the frobnicated frob.
# If frob isn't frobnicatable, GenericError.
#
# Since: version
# Notes: notes, comments can have
# - itemized list
# - like this
#
# Example:
#
# -> { "execute": "quit" }
# <- { "return": {} }
#
##
That's roughly following the following EBNF grammar:
api_comment = "##\n" comment "##\n"
comment = freeform_comment | symbol_comment
freeform_comment = { "# " text "\n" | "#\n" }
symbol_comment = "# @" name ":\n" { member | tag_section | freeform_comment }
member = "# @" name ':' [ text ] "\n" freeform_comment
tag_section = "# " ( "Returns:", "Since:", "Note:", "Notes:", "Example:", "Examples:" ) [ text ] "\n" freeform_comment
text = free text with markup
Note that the grammar is ambiguous: a line "# @foo:\n" can be parsed
both as freeform_comment and as symbol_comment. The actual parser
recognizes symbol_comment.
See docs/qapi-code-gen.txt for more details.
Deficiencies and limitations:
- the generated QMP documentation includes internal types
- union type support is lacking
- type information is lacking in generated documentation
- doc comment error message positions are imprecise, they point
to the beginning of the comment.
- a few minor issues, all marked TODO/FIXME in the code

Some recently added tests pass a zero length to qtest_memwrite().
Unfortunately, the qtest protocol doesn't implement an on-the-wire
syntax for zero-length writes and the current code happily sends
garbage to QEMU. This causes intermittent failures.
It isn't worth the pain to enhance the protocol, so this patch
simply fixes the issue by "just return, doing nothing". The same
fix is applied to qtest_memread() since the issue also exists in
the QEMU part of the "memread" command.

According to the 9P spec at http://man.cat-v.org/plan_9/5/intro, the
parent directory of the root directory of a server's tree is itself.
This test hence checks that the qid of the root directory as returned by
attach is the same as the qid of ".." when walking from the root directory.
Signed-off-by: Greg Kurz <groug@kaod.org>
The walk operation is used to traverse the directory tree and to associate
paths to fids. A single walk can be used to traverse up to P9_MAXWELEM path
elements at the same time.
The test creates a path with P9_MAXWELEM elements on the backend (à la
'mkdir -p') and issues a walk operation. The walk is expected to succeed
without error.

The attach operation is used to establish a connection between the
client and the server. After this, the client is able to access the
underlying filesystem and do I/O.
This test simply ensures the operation succeeds without error.

This patch lays the foundations to be able to test 9P operations and
provides a test for the version operation as a first example.
A 9P request is composed of a T-message sent by the client (guest) to the
server (QEMU), and a R-message sent by the server back to the client.
The following general calls are available to implement requests for any
9P operations:
v9fs_req_init(): allocates the request structure and the guest memory for
the T-message
v9fs_req_send(): allocates the guest memory for the R-message and sends the
T-message to QEMU
v9fs_req_recv(): waits for QEMU to answer and does some sanity checks on the
returned R-message header
v9fs_req_free(): releases the guest memory and the request structure
Helpers are provided, to be used by each specific 9P operation to copy data
to/from the guest memory.
The version operation is used to negotiate the 9P protocol version to be
used and the maximum buffer size for exchanged data. It is necessarily
the first message of a 9P session. For simplicity, the maximum buffer size
is hardcoded to 4k, which should be enough for functional tests.
The test simply advertises the "9P2000.L" version to QEMU and expects QEMU
to answer it is supported.

folders in the root folder of the QEMU source tree. More architectures
(e.g. RISC-V, AVR) are likely to be included soon, too, so the main
folder of the QEMU sources slowly gets quite overcrowded with the
target-xxx folders.
To disburden the main folder a little bit, let's move the target-xxx
folders into a dedicated target/ folder, so that target-xxx/ simply
becomes target/xxx/ instead.

The qcow2_make_empty() function is reached during 'qemu-img commit',
in order to clear out ALL clusters of an image. However, if the
image cannot use the fast code path (true if the image is format
0.10, or if the image contains a snapshot), the cluster size is
larger than 512, and the image is larger than 2G in size, then our
choice of sector_step causes problems. Since it is not cluster
aligned, but qcow2_discard_clusters() silently ignores an unaligned
head or tail, we are leaving clusters allocated.
Enhance the testsuite to expose the flaw, and patch the problem by

The qobject_from_jsonf() function implements a pseudo-printf
language for creating a QObject; however, it is hard-coded to
only parse a subset of formats understood by -Wformat, and is
not a straight synonym to bare printf(). In particular, any
use of an int64_t integer works only if the system's
definition of PRId64 matches what the parser expects; which
works on glibc (%lld or %ld depending on 32- vs. 64-bit) and
mingw (%I64d), but not on Mac OS (%qd). Rather than enhance
the parser, it is just as easy to force the use of int (where
the value is small enough) or long long instead of int64_t,
which we know always works.
This should cover all remaining testsuite uses of
qobject_from_json[fv]() that were trying to rely on PRId64,
although my proof for that was done by adding in asserts and
checking that 'make check' still passed, where such asserts
are inappropriate during hard freeze. A later series in 2.9
may remove all dynamic JSON parsing, but that's a bigger task.

the parser, it is just as easy to use normal printf() for
this particular conversion, matching what is done elsewhere
in this file [1], which is safe in this instance because the
format does not contain any of the problematic differences
(bare '%' or the '%s' format).
The use of PRId64 for a variable named 'pid' is gross, but it
is a sad reality of the 64-bit mingw environment, which
mistakenly defines pid_t as a 64-bit type even though getpid()
returns 'int' on that platform [2]. Our definition of the
QGA GuestExec type defines 'pid' as a 64-bit entity, and we
can't tighten it to 'int32' unless the mingw header is fixed.
Using 'long long' instead of 'int64_t' just so that we can
stick with qobject_from_jsonv("%lld") instead of printf() is
not any prettier, since we may have later type churn anyways.

Instead of automatically starting jobs at creation time via backup_start
et al, we'd like to return a job object pointer that can be started
manually at later point in time.
For now, add the block_job_start mechanism and start the jobs
automatically as we have been doing, with conversions job-by-job coming
in later patches.
Of note: cancellation of unstarted jobs will perform all the normal
cleanup as if the job had started, particularly abort and clean. The
only difference is that we will not emit any events, because the job
never actually started.

Commit 9ef2e93f introduced the concept of tagging ATAPI commands as
NONDATA, but this introduced a regression for certain commands better
described as CONDDATA. read_cd is such a command that both requires
a non-zero BCL if a transfer size is set, but is perfectly content to
accept a zero BCL if the transfer size is 0.
This test adds a regression test for the case where BCL and nb_sectors
are both 0.
Flesh out the CDROM tests by:
(1) Allowing the test to specify a BCL
(2) Allowing the buffer comparison test to compare a 0-size buffer
(3) Fix the BCL specification in libqos (It is LE, not BE)
(4) Add a nice human-readable message for future SCSI command additions

Commit 3ff2f67a changed bdrv_co_flush() so that no flush is issues if
the image hasn't been dirtied since the last flush. This is not quite
correct: The condition should be that the image hasn't been dirtied
since the last _successful_ flush. This patch changes the logic
accordingly.
Without this fix, subsequent bdrv_co_flush() calls would return success
without actually doing anything even though the image is still dirty.
The difference is visible in some blkdebug test cases where error
messages incorrectly disappeared after commit 3ff2f67a.

To make it a little more obvious which functions are intended to be
public interface and which are intended to be for use only by jobs
themselves, split the interface into "public" and "private" files.
Convert blockjobs (e.g. block/backup) to using the private interface.
Leave blockdev and others on the public interface.
There are remaining uses of private state by qemu-img, and several
cases in blockdev.c and block/io.c where we grab job->blk for the
purposes of acquiring an AIOContext.
