Simple unions are simpler than flat unions in the schema, but more
complicated in C and on the QMP wire: there's extra indirection in C
and extra nesting on the wire, both pointless. They should be avoided
in new code.

latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call.
qmp_guest_get_devices() is wrong that way: it calls error_setg() in a
loop.
If no iteration fails, the function returns a value and sets no error.
Okay.
If exactly one iteration fails, the function returns a value and sets
an error. Wrong.
If multiple iterations fail, the function trips error_setv()'s

Fix it to return immediately on error.

Not exactly elegant, I'm afraid.
The "when != lbl:" is necessary to avoid transforming
if (fun(args, &err)) {
goto out
}
...
out:
error_propagate(errp, err);
even though other paths to label out still need the error_propagate().
For an actual example, see sclp_realize().
Without the "when strict", Coccinelle transforms vfio_msix_setup(),
incorrectly. I don't know what exactly "when strict" does, only that
it helps here.
The match of return is narrower than what I want, but I can't figure
out how to express "return where the operand doesn't use @err". For
an example where it's too narrow, see vfio_intx_enable().
Silently fails to convert hw/arm/armsse.c, because Coccinelle gets
confused by ARMSSE being used both as typedef and function-like macro
there. Converted manually.
Line breaks tidied up manually. One nested declaration of @local_err

Related pattern:

When all paths to label out are that way, replace by
if (...) {
error_setg(errp, ...);
return;
}
and delete the label along with the error_propagate().
When we have at most one other path that actually needs to propagate,
and maybe one at the end that where propagation is unnecessary, e.g.
foo(..., &err);
if (err) {
goto out;
}
...
bar(..., &err);
out:
error_propagate(errp, err);
return;
move the error_propagate() to where it's needed, like
if (...) {
foo(..., &err);
error_propagate(errp, err);
return;
}
...
bar(..., errp);
return;
and transform the error_setg() as above.
In some places, the transformation results in obviously unnecessary
error_propagate(). The next few commits will eliminate them.
Bonus: the elimination of gotos will make later patches in this series
easier to review.

guest-file-read command is currently implemented to read from a
file handle count number of bytes. when executed with a very large count number
qemu-ga crashes.
after some digging turns out that qemu-ga crashes after trying to allocate
a buffer large enough to save the data read in it, the buffer was allocated using
g_malloc0 which is not fail safe, and results a crash in case of failure.
g_malloc0 was replaced with g_try_malloc0() which returns NULL on failure,
A check was added for that case in order to prevent qemu-ga from crashing
and to send a response to the qemu-ga client accordingly.

page, which is the default code page as configure in the guest's
Windows, then it is returned as a byte array, (char array).
As stated in the BZ#1733165, when renaming a network interface to a
Chinese name and invoking this command, the returned name field has
the (\ufffd) value for each Chinese character the name had, this
value is an indication that the code page does not have the decoding
information for the given character.
This bug is a result of using the CP_ACP code page for decoding which
is an interchangeable code page, instead CP_UTF8 code page should be
used for decoding the network interface's name.

Since Windows Server 2016, Microsoft stopped upgrading the major and minor
versions of their new Windows Server product, so, the current functionality
of checking major and minor version numbers to determine the Windows Server
version wont work as expected.
The implemented solution here is to use the build number in addition to the
major and minor version numbers of the product to determine the Windows
Server product version.
The final build number of Windows Server 2016 is 14939, and
the final build number of Windows Server 2019 is 17764, so any Windows
Server product that has the major version of 10 and minor version of 0
with a build number lower or equal to 14939 will resemble 2016 and if the
build number is lower or equal to 17763 will resemble 2019.

Magic constants are a pain to use, especially when we run the
risk that our choice of '1' for QGA_SEEK_CUR might differ from
the host or guest's choice of SEEK_CUR. Better is to use an

Exposing OS-specific SEEK_ constants in our qapi was a mistake
(if the host has SEEK_CUR as 1, but the guest has it as 2, then
the semantics are unclear what should happen); if we had a time
machine, we would instead expose only a symbolic enum. It's too
late to change the fact that we have an integer in qapi, but we
can at least document what mapping we want to enforce for all
qga clients (and luckily, it happens to be the mapping that both
Linux and Windows use); then fix the code to match that mapping.
It also helps us filter out unsupported SEEK_DATA and SEEK_HOLE.
In the future, we may wish to move our QGA_SEEK_* constants into
qga/qapi-schema.json, along with updating the schema to take an
alternate type (either the integer, or the string value of the
enum name) - but that's too much risk during hard freeze.

PCIAddress inforfation is obtained via SetupApi, which provides the
information about address, bus, etc. We look throught entire device tree
in the system and try to find device object for given volume. For this PDO
SetupDiGetDeviceRegistryProperty is called, which reads PCI configuration
for a given devicei if it is possible.
This is the most convinient way for a userspace service. The lookup is
performed for every volume available. However, this information is
not mandatory for vss-provider.
In order to use SetupApi we need to notify linker about it. We do not need
to install additional libs, so we do not make separate configuration
option to use libsetupapi.su
SetupApi gives as the same information as kernel driver

This volume is a regular mounted volume from all other points of view.
The information about non mounted volume is reported as System Reserved.
This volume is not mounted and thus it is not writable.

Add a new 'guest-set-user-password' command for changing the password
of guest OS user accounts. This command is needed to enable OpenStack
to support its API for changing the admin password of guests running
on KVM/QEMU. It is not practical to provide a command at the QEMU
level explicitly targetting administrator account password change
only, since different guest OS have different names for the admin
account. While UNIX systems use 'root', Windows systems typically
use 'Administrator' and even that can be renamed. Higher level apps
like OpenStack have the ability to figure out the correct admin
account name since they have info that QEMU/libvirt do not.
The command accepts either the clear text password string, encoded
in base64 to make it 8-bit safe in JSON:
$ echo -n "123456" | base64
MTIzNDU2
$ virsh -c qemu:///system qemu-agent-command f21x86_64 \
'{ "execute": "guest-set-user-password",
"arguments": { "crypted": false,
"username": "root",
"password": "MTIzNDU2" } }'
{"return":{}}
Or a password that has already been run though a crypt(3) like
algorithm appropriate for the guest, again then base64 encoded:
$ echo -n '$6$n01A2Tau$e...snip...DfMOP7of9AJ1I8q0' | base64
JDYkb...snip...YT2Ey
$ virsh -c qemu:///system qemu-agent-command f21x86_64 \

In Linux guest, the disk information is resolved from sysfs. So far,
it only supports virtio-blk, virtio-scsi, IDE, SATA, SCSI disks on x86
hosts, and "disk" parameter may be empty for unsupported disk types.

If an array of mount point paths is specified as 'mountpoints' argument
of guest-fsfreeze-freeze-list, qemu-ga will only freeze the file systems
mounted on specified paths in Linux guests. Otherwise, it works as the
same way as guest-fsfreeze-freeze.
This would be useful when the host wants to create partial disk snapshots.

acquire_privilege(), execute_async() and check_suspend_mode() do
nothing when called with an error set. Callers shouldn't do that, and
no caller does. Drop the superfluous tests.

Using error_is_set(ERRP) to find out whether a function failed is
either wrong, fragile, or unnecessarily opaque. It's wrong when ERRP
may be null, because errors go undetected when it is. It's fragile
when proving ERRP non-null involves a non-local argument. Else, it's
unnecessarily opaque (see commit 84d18f0).
The error_is_set(errp) in the guest agent command handler functions
are merely fragile, because all chall chains (do_qmp_dispatch() via
the generated marshalling functions) pass a non-null errp argument.
Make the code more robust and more obviously correct: receive the
error in a local variable, then propagate it through the parameter.

As the description to the guest-set-time states, the command is
there to ease time synchronization after resume. If guest was
suspended for longer period of time, its system time can go off
so badly, that even NTP refuses to set it. That's why the command
was invented: to give users chance to set the time (not
necessarily 100% correct). However, there's is no real need for
us to require users to pass an arbitrary time. Especially if we
can read the correct value from RTC (boiling down to reading
host's time). Hence this commit enables logic:
guest-set-time() == guest-set-time($now_from_rtc)

error_is_set(&var) is the same as var != NULL, but it takes
whole-program analysis to figure that out. Unnecessarily hard for
optimizers, static checkers, and human readers. Dumb it down to
obvious.
Gets rid of several dozen Coverity false positives.
Note that the obvious form is already used in many places.

Support guest-fsfreeze-freeze and guest-fsfreeze-thaw commands for Windows
guests. When fsfreeze command is issued, it calls the VSS requester to
freeze filesystems and applications. On thaw command, it again tells the VSS
requester to thaw them.
This also adds calling of initialize functions for the VSS requester.
