ee3a71e366 spapr: Add NVDIMM device support
Add support for NVDIMM devices for sPAPR. Piggyback on existing nvdimm
device interface in QEMU to support virtual NVDIMM devices for Power.
Create the required DT entries for the device (some entries have
dummy values right now).

The patch creates the required DT node and sends a hotplug
interrupt to the guest. Guest is expected to undertake the normal
DR resource add path in response and start issuing PAPR SCM hcalls.

The device support is verified based on the machine version unlike x86.

This is how it can be used ..
Ex :
For coldplug, the device to be added in qemu command line as shown below
-object memory-backend-file,id=memnvdimm0,prealloc=yes,mem-path=/tmp/nvdimm0,share=yes,size=1073872896
-device nvdimm,label-size=128k,uuid=75a3cdd7-6a2f-4791-8d15-fe0a920e8e9e,memdev=memnvdimm0,id=nvdimm0,slot=0

For hotplug, the device to be added from monitor as below

8574c9f1ad memory-device: Fix memory pre-plug error API violations
memory_device_get_free_addr() dereferences @errp when
memory_device_check_addable() fails.  That's wrong; see the big
comment in error.h.  Introduced in commit 1b6d6af21b "pc-dimm: factor
out capacity and slot checks into MemoryDevice".

No caller actually passes null.

Fix anyway: splice in a local Error *err, and error_propagate().

64afc7c32b memory-device: break the loop if tmp exceed the hinted range
The memory-device list built by memory_device_build_list is ordered by
its address, this means if the tmp range exceed the hinted range, all
the following range will not overlap with it.

And this won't change default pc-dimm mapping and address assignment stay
the same as before this change.

a44432b44f numa: Don't include hw/boards.h into sysemu/numa.h
sysemu/numa.h includes hw/boards.h just for the CPUArchId typedef, at
the cost of pulling in more than two dozen extra headers indirectly.

I could move the typedef from hw/boards.h to qemu/typedefs.h.  But
it's used in just two headers: boards.h and numa.h.

I could move it to another header both its users include.
exec/cpu-common.h seems to be the least bad fit.

But I'm keeping this simple & stupid: declare the struct tag in
numa.h.

a27bd6c779 Include hw/qdev-properties.h less
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers
a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h)
actually need only hw/qdev-core.h.  Include hw/qdev-core.h there
instead.

hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h
and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h.
Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h.

While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h.

Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects.

d645427057 Include migration/vmstate.h less
In my "build everything" tree, changing migration/vmstate.h triggers a
recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

hw/hw.h supposedly includes it for convenience.  Several other headers
include it just to get VMStateDescription.  The previous commit made
that unnecessary.

Include migration/vmstate.h only where it's still needed.  Touching it
now recompiles only some 1600 objects.

22235bb609 pc-dimm: fix crash when invalid slot number is used
QEMU will crash with:
  Segmentation fault (core dumped)
when negative slot number is used, ex:
  qemu-system-x86_64 -m 1G,maxmem=20G,slots=256 \
      -object memory-backend-ram,id=mem1,size=1G \
      -device pc-dimm,id=dimm1,memdev=mem1,slot=-2

fix it by checking that slot number is within valid range.

500016e5db trace-events: Shorten file names in comments
We spell out sub/dir/ in sub/dir/trace-events' comments pointing to
source files.  That's because when trace-events got split up, the
comments were moved verbatim.

Delete the sub/dir/ part from these comments.  Gets rid of several
misspellings.

87f9108bad ppc64: Express dependencies of 'pseries' and 'powernv' machines with kconfig
The POWERNV switch should always select ISA_IPMI_BT, then the other
IPMI options are turned on automatically now.
CONFIG_DIMM should always be selected by the pseries machine,
which in turn depends on CONFIG_MEM_DEVICE since DIMM implements
this interface.
CONFIG_VIRTIO_VGA can be dropped from default-configs/ppc64-softmmu.mak
completely since this device is already automatically enabled via
hw/display/Kconfig now.

f60f5e8076 pc-dimm: use same mechanism for [get|set]_addr
[get|set]_addr are two counterpart to access PCDIMMDevice.addr.

Since we have already set up a property PC_DIMM_ADDR_PROP for this
field and use this mechanism in set_addr, it would be more proper to use
the same mechanism in get_addr.

This patch uses object_property_get_uint() to replace the direct memory
access to make [get|set]_addr with the same mechanism.

e3213eb5ec memory-device: rewrite address assignment using ranges
Let's rewrite it properly using ranges. This fixes certain overflows that
are right now possible. E.g.

qemu-system-x86_64 -m 4G,slots=20,maxmem=40G -M pc \
    -object memory-backend-file,id=mem1,share,mem-path=/dev/zero,size=2G
    -device pc-dimm,memdev=mem1,id=dimm1,addr=-0x40000000

Now properly errors out instead of succeeding. (Note that qapi
parsing of huge uint64_t values is broken and fixes are on the way)

"can't add memory device [0xffffffffa0000000:0x80000000], usable range for
memory devices [0x140000000:0xe00000000]"

6ef2c0f2c1 memory-device: complete factoring out pre_plug handling
With all required memory device class functions in place, we can factor
out pre_plug handling of memory devices. Take proper care of errors. We
still have to carry along legacy_align required for pc compatibility
handling.

We will factor out tracing of the address separately in a follow-up
patch.

c331d3e136 memory-device: add device class function set_addr()
To be able to factor out address assignment of memory devices, we will
have to read (get_addr()) and write (set_addr()) the address.

We can't use properties for this purpose, as properties are device
specific. E.g. while the address property for a DIMM is called "addr", it
might be called differently (e.g. "memaddr") for other devices.

Especially virtio based memory devices cannot use "addr" as that is already
reserved and used for the address on the bus (for the proxy device).

Also, it might be possible to have memory devices without address
properties (e.g. internal DIMM-like thingies).

In contrast to get_addr(), we expect that set_addr() can fail.

Keep it simple for now for pc-dimm and simply set the static property, that
will fail once realized.

3a0a2b0a2b memory-device: factor out get_memory_region() from pc-dimm
The memory region is necessary for plugging/unplugging a memory device.
The region size (via get_region_size()) is no longer sufficient, as
besides the alignment, also the region itself is required in order to
add it to the device memory region of the machine via
- memory_region_add_subregion
- memory_region_del_subregion

So, to factor out plugging/unplugging of memory devices from pc-dimm
code, we have to factor out access to the memory region first.

946d6154ab memory-device: add and use memory_device_get_region_size()
We will factor out get_memory_region() from pc-dimm to memory device code
soon. Once that is done, get_region_size() can be implemented
generically and essentially be replaced by
memory_device_get_region_size (and work only on get_memory_region()).

We have some users of get_memory_region() (spapr and pc-dimm code) that are
only interested in the size. So let's rework them to use
memory_device_get_region_size() first, then we can factor out
get_memory_region() and eventually remove get_region_size() without
touching the same code multiple times.

Let's properly forward the errors, so errors from get_region_size() /
get_plugged_size() can be handled.

Users right now call both functions after the device has been realized,
which is will never fail, so it is fine to continue using error_abort.

While at it, remove a leftover error check (suggested by Igor).

We can assign and verify the address before realizing and trying to plug.
reading/writing the address property should never fail for DIMMs, so let's
reduce error handling a bit by using &error_abort. Getting access to the
memory region now might however fail. So forward errors from
get_memory_region() properly.

As all memory devices should use the alignment of the underlying memory
region for guest physical address asignment, do detection of the
alignment in pc_dimm_pre_plug(), but allow pc.c to overwrite the
alignment for compatibility handling.

Guest writes to vNVDIMM labels are intercepted and performed on the
backend by QEMU. When the backend is a real persistent memort, QEMU
needs to take proper operations to ensure its write persistence on the
persistent memory. Otherwise, a host power failure may result in the
loss of guest label configurations.

4d8938a05d memory-device: turn alignment assert into check
The start of the address space indicates which maximum alignment is
supported by our machine (e.g. ppc, x86 1GB). This is helpful to
catch fragmenting guest physical memory in strange fashions.

2cc0e2e814 pc-dimm: factor out MemoryDevice interface
On the qmp level, we already have the concept of memory devices:
    "query-memory-devices"
Right now, we only support NVDIMM and PCDIMM.

We want to map other devices later into the address space of the guest.
Such device could e.g. be virtio devices. These devices will have a
guest memory range assigned but won't be exposed via e.g. ACPI. We want
to make them look like memory device, but not glued to pc-dimm.

Especially, it will not always be possible to have TYPE_PC_DIMM as a parent
class (e.g. virtio devices). Let's use an interface instead. As a first
part, convert handling of
- qmp_pc_dimm_device_list
- get_plugged_memory_size
to our new model. plug/unplug stuff etc. will follow later.

A memory device will have to provide the following functions:
- get_addr(): Necessary, as the property "addr" can e.g. not be used for
              virtio devices (already defined).
- get_plugged_size(): The amount this device offers to the guest as of
                      now.
- get_region_size(): Because this can later on be bigger than the
                     plugged size.
- fill_device_info(): Fill MemoryDeviceInfo, e.g. for qmp.

6388e18de9 qmp: distinguish PC-DIMM and NVDIMM in MemoryDeviceInfoList
It may need to treat PC-DIMM and NVDIMM differently, e.g., when
deciding the necessity of non-volatile flag bit in SRAT memory
affinity structures.

A new field 'nvdimm' is added to the union type MemoryDeviceInfo for
such purpose. Its type is currently PCDIMMDeviceInfo and will be
updated when necessary in the future.

It also fixes "info memory-devices"/query-memory-devices which
currently show nvdimm devices as dimm devices since
object_dynamic_cast(obj, TYPE_PC_DIMM) happily cast nvdimm to
TYPE_PC_DIMM which it's been inherited from.

9af2398977 Include less of the generated modular QAPI headers
In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in
qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100
objects.

The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h,
qapi-types.h.  Each of these headers still includes all its shards.
Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need.

To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now
recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects.  The next commit will
improve it further.

cb836434cd nvdimm: add 'unarmed' option
Currently the only vNVDIMM backend can guarantee the guest write
persistence is device DAX on Linux, because no host-side kernel cache
is involved in the guest access to it. The approach to detect whether
the backend is device DAX needs to access sysfs, which may not work
with SELinux.

Instead, we add the 'unarmed' option to device 'nvdimm', so that users
or management utils, which have enough knowledge about the backend,
can control the unarmed flag in guest ACPI NFIT via this option. The
guest Linux NVDIMM driver, for example, will mark the corresponding
vNVDIMM device read-only if the unarmed flag in guest NFIT is set.

The default value of 'unarmed' option is 'off' in order to keep the
backwards compatibility.

f47bd1c839 spapr: replace numa_get_node() with lookup in pc-dimm list
SPAPR is the last user of numa_get_node() and a bunch of
supporting code to maintain numa_info[x].addr list.

Get LMB node id from pc-dimm list, which allows to
remove ~80LOC maintaining dynamic address range
lookup list.

It also removes pc-dimm dependency on numa_[un]set_mem_node_id()
and makes pc-dimms a sole source of information about which
node it belongs to and removes duplicate data from global
numa_info.

0479097859 hw/ppc/spapr: Fix segfault when instantiating a 'pc-dimm' without 'memdev'
QEMU currently crashes when trying to use a 'pc-dimm' on the pseries
machine without specifying its 'memdev' property. This happens because
pc_dimm_get_memory_region() does not check whether the 'memdev' property
has properly been set by the user. Looking closer at this function, it's
also obvious that it is using &error_abort to call another function - and
this is bad in a function that is used in the hot-plugging calling chain
since this can also cause QEMU to exit unexpectedly.

So let's fix these issues in a proper way now: Add a "Error **errp"
parameter to pc_dimm_get_memory_region() which we use in case the 'memdev'
property has not been set by the user, and which we can use instead of
the &error_abort, and change the callers of get_memory_region() to make
use of this "errp" parameter for proper error checking.

2de7e26891 dimm: Convert to DEFINE_PROP_LINK
Unlike the usual object_property_add_link() invocations in other
devices, dimm checks the "is mapped" state of the backend in addition to
qdev_prop_allow_set_link_before_realize. To convert it without

2aece63c8a hostmem: detect host backend memory is being used properly
Currently, we use memory_region_is_mapped() to detect if the host
backend memory is being used. This works if the memory is directly
mapped into guest's address space, however, it is not true for
nvdimm as it uses aliased memory region to map the memory. This is
why this bug can happen:

Fix it by introduce a new filed, is_mapped, to HostMemoryBackend,
we set/clear this filed accordingly when the device link/unlink to
host backend memory

da34e65cb4 include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.h
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef.  Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere.  Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h.  That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.

Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h.  Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now.  Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.

Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly.  Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h.  Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.

This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third.  Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little.  More work is needed for that one.

Simple unions were carrying a special case that hid their 'data'
QMP member from the resulting C struct, via the hack method
QAPISchemaObjectTypeVariant.simple_union_type().  But by using
the work we started by unboxing flat union and alternate
branches, coupled with the ability to visit the members of an
implicit type, we can now expose the simple union's implicit
type in qapi-types.h:

Doing this removes asymmetry between QAPI's QMP side and its
C side (both sides now expose 'data'), and means that the
treatment of a simple union as sugar for a flat union is now
equivalent in both languages (previously the two approaches used
a different layer of dereferencing, where the simple union could
be converted to a flat union with equivalent C layout but
different {} on the wire, or to an equivalent QMP wire form
but with different C representation).  Using the implicit type
also lets us get rid of the simple_union_type() hack.

Of course, now all clients of simple unions have to adjust from
using su->u.member to using su->u.member.data; while this touches
a number of files in the tree, some earlier cleanup patches
helped minimize the change to the initialization of a temporary
variable rather than every single member access.  The generated
qapi-visit.c code is also affected by the layout change:

c9f4b77ad5 pc-dimm: fix error handling in pc_dimm_check_memdev_is_busy()
If host_memory_backend_get_memory() were to return error and
NULL MemoryRegion, pc_dimm_check_memdev_is_busy() would crash
dereferencing NULL pointer in memory_region_is_mapped().
But if error is set and non NULL MemoryRegion is returned
then error_setg() will fail with "error already set" assertion
in error_setv()

To avoid above issues use typical error handling pattern
for property setters:

51e72bc1dd qapi: Swap visit_* arguments for consistent 'name' placement
JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were
called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp).  This can be
a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to
match JSON order.  It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(),
where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the
otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's
time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the
'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument.

Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h
prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to
unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in
qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients.

Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and
those clients to match.

Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated
files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle
script to affect the rest of the code base:

I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB
indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of

1fd5d4fea4 memory: Convert to new qapi union layout
We have two issues with our qapi union layout:
1) Even though the QMP wire format spells the tag 'type', the
C code spells it 'kind', requiring some hacks in the generator.
2) The C struct uses an anonymous union, which places all tag
values in the same namespace as all non-variant members. This
leads to spurious collisions if a tag value matches a non-variant
member's name.

Make the conversion to the new layout for memory-related code.

it allows safely cancel memory hotplug if vhost backend
doesn't support necessary amount of memory slots and prevents

b5d3b03922 pc-dimm: don't assert if pc-dimm alignment != hotpluggable mem range size
Drop superfluous pc-dimm alignment on hot-pluggable mem
range size assert, since it causes QEMU crash during hotplug
when hotplugging pc-dimm with alignment bigger than
an alignment of hot-pluggable mem range size.

Instead allow pc_dimm_get_free_addr() find free address
and bail out gracefully later in that function during
checking if pc-dimm will fit in hot-pluggable mem range.

87a45cfee6 pc-dimm: add a function to calculate VM's current RAM size
The global parameter 'ram_size' does not take into account
the hotplugged memory.

In some codes, we use 'ram_size' as current VM's real RAM size,
which is not correct.

Add function 'get_current_ram_size' to calculate VM's current RAM size,
it will enumerate present memory devices and also plus ram_size.

92a37a04d6 pc: limit DIMM address and size to page aligned values
When running in KVM mode, kvm_set_phys_mem() will silently
fail if registered MemoryRegion address/size is not page
aligned. Causing memory hotplug failure in guest.

Mapping non aligned MemoryRegion in TCG mode 'works', but
sane guest OS still expects page aligned memory module
and fails to initialize it if it's not aligned.

So do not allow non aligned (i.e. valid) address/size
values for DIMM to avoid either KVM failure or guest
issues caused by it.

fc50ff0666 pc-dimm: Don't check dimm->node when there is non-NUMA config
It should not break memory hotplug feature if there is non-NUMA option.

This patch would also allow to use pc-dimm as replacement for initial memory
for non-NUMA configs.

Note: After this patch, the memory hotplug can work normally for Linux guest OS
when there is non-NUMA option and NUMA option. But not support Windows guest OS
to hotplug memory with no-NUMA config, actully, it's Windows limitation.

If user specifies a node number that exceeds the available numa nodes in

10b7e74bf2 pc: implement pc-dimm device abstraction
Each hotplug-able memory slot is a PCDIMMDevice.
A hot-add operation for a memory device:
- creates a new PCDIMMDevice and makes hotplug controller to map it into
  guest address space

Hotplug operations are done through normal device_add commands.
For migration case, all hotplugged memory devices on source should be
specified on target's command line using '-device' option with
properties set to the same values as on source.

To simplify review, patch introduces only PCDIMMDevice QOM skeleton that
will be extended by following patches to implement actual memory hotplug
and related functions.
