6832deb8ff hw/display: Allow vga_common_init() to return errors
The vga_common_init() function currently cannot report errors to its
caller. But in the following patch, we'd need this possibility, so
let's change it to take an "Error **" as parameter for this.

f6413cbfd0 ui: simplify gl unblock & flush
GraphicHw.gl_flushed was introduced to notify the
device (vhost-user-gpu) that the GL resources (the display scanout) are
no longer needed.

It was decoupled from QEMU own gl-blocking mechanism, but that
difference isn't helping. Instead, we can reuse QEMU gl-blocking and
notify virtio_gpu_gl_flushed() when unblocking (to unlock
vhost-user-gpu).

An extra block/unblock is added arount dpy_gl_update() so existing
backends that don't block will have the flush event handled. It will
also help when there are no backends associated.

3cddb8b9e0 display/ui: add a callback to indicate GL state is flushed
Displaying rendered resources requires blocking qemu GPU to avoid extra
framebuffer copies. For an external display, via Spice currently, there
is a callback to block/unblock the rendering in the same thread.

But with the vhost-user-gpu backend, the qemu process doesn't handle
the rendering itself, and the blocking callback isn't effective.
Instead, the backend must be notified when the display code is done.

Fix this by adding a new GraphicHwOps callback to indicate the GL state
is flushed, and we are done manipulating the shared GL resources. Call
it from gtk and spice display.

db1015e92e Move QOM typedefs and add missing includes
Some typedefs and macros are defined after the type check macros.
This makes it difficult to automatically replace their
definitions with OBJECT_DECLARE_TYPE.

Patch generated using:

 $ ./scripts/codeconverter/converter.py -i \
   --pattern=QOMStructTypedefSplit $(git grep -l '' -- '*.[ch]')

which will split "typdef struct { ... } TypedefName"
declarations.

Followed by:

 $ ./scripts/codeconverter/converter.py -i --pattern=MoveSymbols \
    $(git grep -l '' -- '*.[ch]')

which will:
- move the typedefs and #defines above the type check macros
- add missing #include "qom/object.h" lines if necessary

Not exactly elegant, I'm afraid.

The "when != lbl:" is necessary to avoid transforming

         if (fun(args, &err)) {
             goto out
         }
         ...
     out:
         error_propagate(errp, err);

even though other paths to label out still need the error_propagate().
For an actual example, see sclp_realize().

Without the "when strict", Coccinelle transforms vfio_msix_setup(),
incorrectly. I don't know what exactly "when strict" does, only that
it helps here.

The match of return is narrower than what I want, but I can't figure
out how to express "return where the operand doesn't use @err". For
an example where it's too narrow, see vfio_intx_enable().

Silently fails to convert hw/arm/armsse.c, because Coccinelle gets
confused by ARMSSE being used both as typedef and function-like macro
there.  Converted manually.

Line breaks tidied up manually. One nested declaration of @local_err
deleted manually. Preexisting unwanted blank line dropped in

2726dc51e0 hw: Fix error API violation around object_property_set_link()
The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a
pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the
latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call.

virtio_gpu_pci_base_realize(), virtio_vga_base_realize(),
sparc32_ledma_device_realize(), sparc32_dma_realize(),
sparc32_dma_realize() xilinx_axidma_realize(), mips_cps_realize(),
macio_realize_ide(), xilinx_enet_realize(), and
virtio_iommu_pci_realize() are wrong that way: they reuse the argument
they pass to object_property_set_link() for another call.

Harmless, because object_property_set_link() can't actually fail for
them: it fails when the property doesn't exist, is not settable, or
its .check() method fails. Fix by passing &error_abort instead.

Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h)

hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h

Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h.

While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h.

Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects.

50d8e25ea6 virtio-gpu: split virtio-gpu, introduce virtio-gpu-base
Add a base class that is common to virtio-gpu and vhost-user-gpu
devices.

The VirtIOGPUBase base class provides common functionalities necessary
for both virtio-gpu and vhost-user-gpu:
- common configuration (max-outputs, initial resolution, flags)
- virtio device initialization, including queue setup
- device pre-conditions checks (iommu)
- migration blocker
- virtio device callbacks
- hooking up to qemu display subsystem
- a few common helper functions to reset the device, retrieve display
informations
- a class callback to unblock the rendering (for GL updates)

What is left to the virtio-gpu subdevice to take care of, in short,
are all the virtio queues handling, command processing and migration.

f2784eed30 hw: report invalid disable-legacy|modern usage for virtio-1-only devs
A number of virtio devices (gpu, crypto, mouse, keyboard, tablet) only
support the virtio-1 (aka modern) mode. Currently if the user launches
QEMU, setting those devices to enable legacy mode, QEMU will silently
create them in modern mode, ignoring the user's (mistaken) request.

This patch introduces proper data validation so that an attempt to
configure a virtio-1-only devices in legacy mode gets reported as an
error to the user.

Checking this required introduction of a new field to explicitly track
what operating model is to be used for a device, separately from the
disable_modern and disable_legacy fields that record the user's
requested configuration.

d46b40fce2 display/stdvga: add edid support.
This patch adds edid support to the qemu stdvga. It is turned off by
default and can be enabled with the new edid property. The patch also
adds xres and yres properties to specify the video mode you want the
guest use. Works only with edid enabled and updated guest driver.

The mmio bar of the stdvga has some unused address space at the start.
It was reserved just in case it'll be needed for virtio, but it turned
out to not be needed for that. So let's use that region to place the
EDID data block there.

93f874fe9d virtio-gpu: fix crashes upon warm reboot with vga mode
With vga=775 on the Linux command line a first boot of the VM running
Linux works fine. After a warm reboot it crashes during Linux boot.

Before that, valgrind points out bad memory write to console
surface. The VGA code is not aware that virtio-gpu got a message
surface scanout when the display is disabled. Let's reset VGA graphic
mode when it is the case, so that a new display surface is created
when doing further VGA operations.

1fcfdc435a vga: disable global_vmstate for 3.0+ machine types
Move global_vmstate from vga_common_init() parameter to VGACommonState
field. Set global_vmstate to true for isa vga devices, so nothing
changes here. virtio-vga and secondary-vga already set global_vmstate
to false so no change here either. All other pci vga devices get a new
global-vmstate property, defaulting to false. A compat property flips
it to true for older machine types.

With this in place you don't get a vmstate section naming conflict any
more when adding multiple pci vga devices to your vm.
