9d49bcf699 Drop the deprecated lm32 target
Target lm32 was deprecated in commit d849800512, v5.2.0. See there
for rationale.

Some of its code lives on in device models derived from milkymist
ones: hw/char/digic-uart.c and hw/display/bcm2835_fb.c.

d895d25ae2 s390x: css: report errors from ccw_dstream_read/write
ccw_dstream_read/write functions returned values are sometime
not taking into account and reported back to the upper level
of interpretation of CCW instructions.

It follows that accessing an invalid address does not trigger
a subchannel status program check to the guest as it should.

Let's test the return values of ccw_dstream_write[_buf] and
ccw_dstream_read[_buf] and report it to the caller.

e6fa978d83 hw/arm/virt: Disable pl011 clock migration if needed
A clock is added by commit aac63e0e6e ("hw/char/pl011: add a clock
input") since v5.2.0 which corresponds to virt-5.2 machine type. It
causes backwards migration failure from upstream to downstream (v5.1.0)
when the machine type is specified with virt-5.1.

This fixes the issue by following instructions from section "Connecting
subsections to properties" in docs/devel/migration.rst. With this applied,
the PL011 clock is migrated based on the machine type.

   virt-5.2 or newer: migration
   virt-5.1 or older: non-migration

e178113ff6 hw: Replace anti-social QOM type names

    xlnx,zynq-xadc

These are all device types. They can't be plugged with -device /
device_add, except for xlnx,zynqmp-pmu-soc, and I doubt that one
actually works.

They *can* be used with -device / device_add to request help.
Usability is poor, though: you have to double the comma, like this:

    $ qemu-system-x86_64 -device SUNW,,fdtwo,help

Trap for the unwary. The fact that this was broken in
device-introspect-test for more than six years until commit e27bd49876
fixed it demonstrates that "the unwary" includes seasoned developers.

One QOM type name contains ' ': "ICH9 SMB". Because having to
remember just one way to quote would be too easy.

Rename the "SUNW,FOO types to "sun-FOO". Summarily replace ',' and '
' by '-' in the other type names.

5ee0abed51 clock: Add ClockEvent parameter to callbacks
The Clock framework allows users to specify a callback which is
called after the clock's period has been updated. Some users need to
also have a callback which is called before the clock period is
updated.

As the first step in adding support for notifying Clock users on
pre-update events, add an argument to the ClockCallback to specify
what event is being notified, and add an argument to the various
functions for registering a callback to specify which events are
of interest to that callback.

Note that the documentation update renders correct the previously
incorrect claim in 'Adding a new clock' that callbacks "will be
explained in a following section".

When the frontend device has no space for a read the fd is removed

Without the call to qemu_chr_fe_accept_input(), the poll will not be

Currently the Exynos 4210 UART code always reports available FIFO space

This patch changes adds the logic to report the capacity properly when the

3059344f01 hw/char/bcm2835_aux: Allow less than 32-bit accesses
The "BCM2835 ARM Peripherals" datasheet [*] chapter 2
("Auxiliaries: UART1 & SPI1, SPI2"), list the register
sizes as 3/8/16/32 bits. We assume this means this
peripheral allows 8-bit accesses.

This was not an issue until commit 5d971f9e67 which reverted
("memory: accept mismatching sizes in memory_region_access_valid").

The model is implemented as 32-bit accesses (see commit 97398d900c,
all registers are 32-bit) so replace MemoryRegionOps.valid as
MemoryRegionOps.impl, and re-introduce MemoryRegionOps.valid
with a 8/32-bit range.

f2336b5fbd hw/char/serial: Rename I/O read/write trace events
The serial_mm_read/write() handlers from the TYPE_SERIAL_MM device
call the serial_ioport_read/write() handlers with shifted offset.

confusing to read the accesses as I/O. Simplify using generic

6ab9be1ec1 hw/char/serial: Assert serial_ioport_read/write offset fits 8 bytes
The serial device has 8 registers, each 8-bit. The MemoryRegionOps
'serial_io_ops' is initialized with max_access_size=1, and all
memory_region_init_io() callers correctly set the region size to
8 bytes:
- serial_io_realize
- serial_isa_realizefn
- serial_pci_realize
- multi_serial_pci_realize

It is safe to assert the offset argument of serial_ioport_read()
and serial_ioport_write() is always less than 8.

243af0225a trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requires
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing
the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using
$(build_root)/$(<D).

In order to keep the include directives unchanged,
the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like
"trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree
such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h".

This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only
a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the
Meson rewrite of the tracing logic.

668f62ec62 error: Eliminate error_propagate() with Coccinelle, part 1
When all we do with an Error we receive into a local variable is
propagating to somewhere else, we can just as well receive it there
right away. Convert

    @@

Not exactly elegant, I'm afraid.

The "when != lbl:" is necessary to avoid transforming

         if (fun(args, &err)) {
             goto out
         }
         ...
     out:
         error_propagate(errp, err);

even though other paths to label out still need the error_propagate().
For an actual example, see sclp_realize().

Without the "when strict", Coccinelle transforms vfio_msix_setup(),
incorrectly. I don't know what exactly "when strict" does, only that
it helps here.

The match of return is narrower than what I want, but I can't figure
out how to express "return where the operand doesn't use @err". For
an example where it's too narrow, see vfio_intx_enable().

Silently fails to convert hw/arm/armsse.c, because Coccinelle gets
confused by ARMSSE being used both as typedef and function-like macro
there. Converted manually.

Line breaks tidied up manually. One nested declaration of @local_err
deleted manually. Preexisting unwanted blank line dropped in
hw/riscv/sifive_e.c.
