edccf661e6 hw/ppc: check if spapr_drc_index() returns NULL in spapr_nvdimm.c
spapr_nvdimm_flush_completion_cb() and flush_worker_cb() are using the
DRC object returned by spapr_drc_index() without checking it for NULL.
In this case we would be dereferencing a NULL pointer when doing
SPAPR_NVDIMM(drc->dev) and PC_DIMM(drc->dev).

This can happen if, during a scm_flush(), the DRC object is wrongly
freed/released (e.g. a bug in another part of the code).
spapr_drc_index() would then return NULL in the callbacks.

8601b4f11d spapr: nvdimm: Introduce spapr-nvdimm device
If the device backend is not persistent memory for the nvdimm, there is
need for explicit IO flushes on the backend to ensure persistence.

On SPAPR, the issue is addressed by adding a new hcall to request for
an explicit flush from the guest when the backend is not pmem. So, the
approach here is to convey when the hcall flush is required in a device
tree property. The guest once it knows the device backend is not pmem,
makes the hcall whenever flush is required.

To set the device tree property, a new PAPR specific device type inheriting
the nvdimm device is implemented. When the backend doesn't have pmem=on
the device tree property "ibm,hcall-flush-required" is set, and the guest
makes hcall H_SCM_FLUSH requesting for an explicit flush. The new device
has boolean property pmem-override which when "on" advertises the device
tree property even when pmem=on for the backend. The flush function
invokes the fdatasync or pmem_persist() based on the type of backend.

The vmstate structures are made part of the spapr-nvdimm device object.
The patch attempts to keep the migration compatibility between source and
destination while rejecting the incompatibles ones with failures.

b5513584a0 spapr: nvdimm: Implement H_SCM_FLUSH hcall
The patch adds support for the SCM flush hcall for the nvdimm devices.
To be available for exploitation by guest through the next patch. The
hcall is applicable only for new SPAPR specific device class which is
also introduced in this patch.

The hcall expects the semantics such that the flush to return with
H_LONG_BUSY_ORDER_10_MSEC when the operation is expected to take longer
time along with a continue_token. The hcall to be called again by providing
the continue_token to get the status. So, all fresh requests are put into
a 'pending' list and flush worker is submitted to the thread pool. The
thread pool completion callbacks move the requests to 'completed' list,
which are cleaned up after collecting the return status for the guest
in subsequent hcall from the guest.

The semantics makes it necessary to preserve the continue_tokens and
their return status across migrations. So, the completed flush states
are forwarded to the destination and the pending ones are restarted
at the destination in post_load. The necessary nvdimm flush specific
vmstate structures are also introduced in this patch which are to be
saved in the new SPAPR specific nvdimm device to be introduced in the
following patch.

53d7d7e2b1 ppc/spapr: Add support for implement support for H_SCM_HEALTH
Add support for H_SCM_HEALTH hcall described at [1] for spapr
nvdimms. This enables guest to detect the 'unarmed' status of a
specific spapr nvdimm identified by its DRC and if its unarmed, mark
the region backed by the nvdimm as read-only.

The patch adds h_scm_health() to handle the H_SCM_HEALTH hcall which
returns two 64-bit bitmaps (health bitmap, health bitmap mask) derived
from 'struct nvdimm->unarmed' member.

Linux kernel side changes to enable handling of 'unarmed' nvdimms for
ppc64 are proposed at [2].

55810e90cc ppc/spapr: cleanup -machine pseries,nvdimm=X handling
Since NVDIMM support was introduced on pseries machine,
it ignored machine's nvdimm=on|off option and effectively
was always enabled on machines that support NVDIMM.
Later on commit
(28f5a71621 ppc/spapr_nvdimm: do not enable support with 'nvdimm=off')
makes QEMU error out in case user explicitly set 'nvdimm=off'
on CLI by peeking at machine_opts.

However that's a workaround and leaves 'nvdimms_state->is_enabled'
in inconsistent state (false) when it should be set true
by default.

Instead of using on machine_opts, set default to true for pseries
machine in initfn time. If user sets manually 'nvdimm=off'
it will overwrite default value to false and QEMU will error
as expected without need to peek into machine_opts.

That way pseries will have, nvdimm enabled by default and
will honor user provided 'nvdimm=on|off'.

f1aa45fffe spapr: introduce SpaprMachineState::numa_assoc_array
The next step to centralize all NUMA/associativity handling in
the spapr machine is to create a 'one stop place' for all
things ibm,associativity.

This patch introduces numa_assoc_array, a 2 dimensional array
that will store all ibm, associativity arrays of all NUMA nodes.
This array is initialized in a new spapr_numa_associativity_init()
function, called in spapr_machine_init(). It is being initialized
with the same values used in other ibm, associativity properties
around spapr files (i.e. all zeros, last value is node_id).
The idea is to remove all hardcoded definitions and FDT writes
of ibm, associativity arrays, doing instead a call to the new
helper spapr_numa_write_associativity_dt() helper, that will
be able to write the DT with the correct values.

We'll start small, handling the trivial cases first. The
remaining instances of ibm, associativity will be handled
next.

28f5a71621 ppc/spapr_nvdimm: do not enable support with 'nvdimm=off'
The NVDIMM support for pSeries was introduced in 5.1, but it
didn't contemplate the 'nvdimm' machine option that other
archs uses. For every other arch, if no '-machine nvdimm(=on)'
is present, it is assumed that the NVDIMM support is disabled.
The user must explictly inform that the machine supports
NVDIMM. For pseries-5.1 the 'nvdimm' option is completely
ignored, and support is always assumed to exist. This
leads to situations where the user is able to set 'nvdimm=off'
but the guest boots up with the NVDIMMs anyway.

Fixing this now, after 5.1 launch, can put the overall NVDIMM
support for pseries in a strange place regarding this 'nvdimm'
machine option. If we force everything to be like other archs,
existing pseries-5.1 guests that didn't use 'nvdimm' to use NVDIMM
devices will break. If we attempt to make the newer pseries
machines (5.2+) behave like everyone else, but keep pseries-5.1
untouched, we'll have consistency problems on machine upgrade
(5.1 will have different default values for NVDIMM support than
5.2).

The common ground here is, if the user sets 'nvdimm=off', we
must comply regardless of being 5.1 or 5.2+. This patch
changes spapr_nvdimm_validate() to verify if the user set
NVDIMM support off in the machine options and, in that
case, error out if we have a NVDIMM device. The default
value for 5.2+ pseries machines will still be 'nvdimm=on'
when there is no 'nvdimm' option declared, just like it is today
with pseries-5.1. In the end we'll have different default
semantics from everyone else in the absence of the 'nvdimm'
machine option, but this boat has sailed.

70fc9cb092 spapr_nvdimm.c: make 'label-size' mandatory
The pseries machine does not support NVDIMM modules without label.
Attempting to do so, even if the overall block size is aligned with
256MB, will seg fault the guest kernel during NVDIMM probe. This
can be avoided by forcing 'label-size' to always be present for
sPAPR NVDIMMs.

The verification was put before the alignment check because the
presence of label-size affects the alignment calculation, so
it's not optimal to warn the user about an alignment error,
then about the lack of label-size, then about a new alignment
error when the user sets a label-size.

b5fca656f7 spapr: Add Hcalls to support PAPR NVDIMM device
This patch implements few of the necessary hcalls for the nvdimm support.

PAPR semantics is such that each NVDIMM device is comprising of multiple
SCM(Storage Class Memory) blocks. The guest requests the hypervisor to
bind each of the SCM blocks of the NVDIMM device using hcalls. There can
be SCM block unbind requests in case of driver errors or unplug(not
supported now) use cases. The NVDIMM label read/writes are done through
hcalls.

Since each virtual NVDIMM device is divided into multiple SCM blocks,
the bind, unbind, and queries using hcalls on those blocks can come
independently. This doesn't fit well into the qemu device semantics,
where the map/unmap are done at the (whole)device/object level granularity.
The patch doesnt actually bind/unbind on hcalls but let it happen at the
device_add/del phase itself instead.

The guest kernel makes bind/unbind requests for the virtual NVDIMM device
at the region level granularity. Without interleaving, each virtual NVDIMM
device is presented as a separate guest physical address range. So, there
is no way a partial bind/unbind request can come for the vNVDIMM in a
hcall for a subset of SCM blocks of a virtual NVDIMM. Hence it is safe to
do bind/unbind everything during the device_add/del.
