tests/qtest/boot-sector: Check that the guest did not panic
The s390-ccw bios code panics if it can not boot successfully. In this case, it does not make sense that we wait the full 600 seconds for the boot sector test to finish and can signal the failure immediately, thus let's check the status of the guest with the "query-status" QMP command here, too. tests/qtest/boot-serial-test: Test Virt machine with 'max'
When using KVM, using a specific cpu type will only work if the host CPU really is that exact CPU type. During testing we can simply use the 'max' CPU which will select all the features available from the host. This allow running this test on a Cavium CN8890 (ThunderX cores). tests/plugin: expand insn test to detect duplicate instructions
A duplicate insn is one that is appears to be executed twice in a row. This is currently possible due to -icount and cpu_io_recompile() causing a re-translation of a block. On it's own this won't trigger any tests though. The heuristics that the plugin use can't deal with the x86 rep instruction which (validly) will look like executing the same instruction several times. To avoid problems later we tweak the rules for x86 to run the "inline" version of the plugin. This also has the advantage of increasing coverage of the plugin code (see bugfix in previous commit). tests/qtest/qos-test: dump environment variables if verbose
If qtests are run in verbose mode (i.e. if --verbose CL argument was provided) then print all environment variables to stdout before running the individual tests. It is common nowadays, at least being able to output all config vectors in a build chain, especially if it is required to investigate build- and test-issues on foreign/remote machines, which includes environment variables. In the context of writing new test cases this is also useful for finding out whether there are already some existing options for common questions like is there a preferred location for writing test files to? Is there a maximum size for test data? Is there a deadline for running tests? Use qos_printf() instead of g_test_message() to avoid the latter cluttering the output. libqos/qgraph_internal: add qos_printf() and qos_printf_literal()
These two are macros wrapping regular printf() call. They are intended to be used instead of calling printf() directly in order to avoid breaking TAP output format. TAP output format is enabled by using --tap command line argument. Starting with glib 2.62 it is enabled by default. Unfortunately there is currently no public glib API available to check whether TAP output format is enabled. For that reason qos_printf() simply always prepends a '#' character for now. libqos/qgraph: add qos_node_create_driver_named()
So far the qos subsystem of the qtest framework had the limitation that only one instance of the same official QEMU (QMP) driver name could be created for qtests. That's because a) the created qos node names must always be unique, b) the node name must match the official QEMU driver name being instantiated and c) all nodes are in a global space shared by all tests. This patch removes this limitation by introducing a new function qos_node_create_driver_named() which allows test case authors to specify a node name being different from the actual associated QEMU driver name. It fills the new 'qemu_name' field of QOSGraphNode for that purpose. Adjust build_driver_cmd_line() and qos_graph_node_set_availability() to correctly deal with either accessing node name vs. node's qemu_name correctly. hw/i2c: Implement NPCM7XX SMBus Module FIFO Mode
This patch implements the FIFO mode of the SMBus module. In FIFO, the user transmits or receives at most 16 bytes at a time. The FIFO mode allows the module to transmit large amount of data faster than single byte mode. Since we only added the device in a patch that is only a few commits away in the same patch set. Acceptance Tests: set up existing ssh keys by default
It's questionable whether it's necessary to create one brand new pair for each test. It's not questionable that it takes less time and resources to just use the keys available at "tests/keys" that exist for that exact reason. If a location for the public key is not given explicitly, the LinuxTest will now set up the existing pair of keys as the default. This removes the need for a lot of boilerplate code. To avoid the ssh client from erroring on permission issues, a directory with restrictive permissions is created for the private key. This should still be a lot cheaper than creating a new key. iotests: Consistent $IMGOPTS boundary matching
To disallow certain refcount_bits values, some _unsupported_imgopts invocations look like "refcount_bits=1[^0-9]", i.e. they match an integer boundary with [^0-9]. This expression does not match the end of the string, though, so it breaks down when refcount_bits is the last option (which it tends to be after the rewrite of the check script in Python). Those invocations could use \b or \> instead, but those are not portable. They could use something like \([^0-9]\|$\), but that would be cumbersome. To make it simple and keep the existing invocations working, just let _unsupported_imgopts match the regex against $IMGOPTS plus a trailing space. Acceptance tests: clarify ssh connection failure reason
If the connection to the ssh server fails, it may indeed be a "sshd" issue, but it may also not be that. tests/acceptance/boot_linux: rename misleading cloudinit method
There's no downloading happening on that method, so let's call it "prepare" instead. While at it, and because of it, the current "prepare_boot" and "prepare_cloudinit" are also renamed. The reasoning here is that "prepare_" methods will just work on the images, while "set_up_" will make them effective to the VM that will be launched. tests/acceptance: Re-enable the microblaze test
The microblaze kernel sometimes gets stuck during boot (ca. 1 out of 200 times), so we disabled the corresponding acceptance tests some months ago. fuzz: add virtio-9p configurations for fuzzing
virtio-9p devices are often used to expose a virtual-filesystem to the guest. There have been some bugs reported in this device, such as CVE-2018-19364, and CVE-2021-20181. We should fuzz this device This patch adds two virtio-9p configurations: * One with the widely used -fsdev local driver. This driver leaks some state in the form of files/directories created in the shared dir. * One with the synth driver. While it is not used in the real world, this driver won't leak leak state between fuzz inputs. fuzz: enable dynamic args for generic-fuzz configs

fuzz: ignore address_space_map is_write flag
We passed an is_write flag to the fuzz_dma_read_cb function to differentiate between the mapped DMA regions that need to be populated with fuzzed data, and those that don't. We simply passed through the address_space_map is_write parameter. The goal was to cut down on unnecessarily populating mapped DMA regions, when they are not read from. Unfortunately, nothing precludes code from reading from regions mapped with is_write=true. For example, see: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2021-01/msg04729.html This patch removes the is_write parameter to fuzz_dma_read_cb. As a result, we will fill all mapped DMA regions with fuzzed data, ignoring the specified transfer direction. iotests: add support for capturing and matching QMP events
When using the _launch_qemu and _send_qemu_cmd functions from common.qemu, any QMP events get mixed in with the output from the commands and responses. This makes it difficult to write a test case as the ordering of events in the output is not stable. This introduces a variable 'capture_events' which can be set to a list of event names. Any events listed in this variable will not be printed, instead collected in the $QEMU_EVENTS environment variable. A new '_wait_event' function can be invoked to collect events at a fixed point in time. The function will first pull events cached in $QEMU_EVENTS variable, and if none are found, will then read more from QMP. Reviewed-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Daniel P. block: push error reporting into bdrv_all_*_snapshot functions
The bdrv_all_*_snapshot functions return a BlockDriverState pointer for the invalid backend, which the callers then use to report an error message. In some cases multiple callers are reporting the same error message, but with slightly different text. In the future there will be more error scenarios for some of these methods, which will benefit from fine grained error message reporting. So it is helpful to push error reporting down a level. iotests: Fix -makecheck output
For -makecheck, the old 'check' implementation skipped the output when
starting a test. It only had the condensed output at the end of a test.
testrunner.py prints the normal output when starting a test even for
-makecheck. This output contains '\r' at the end so that it can be
overwritten with the result at the end of the test. However, for
-makecheck this is shorter output in a different format, so effectively
we end up with garbled output that mixes both output forms.
Revert to the old behaviour of only printing a message after the test
had completed in -makecheck mode.

iotests: Revert emulator selection to old behaviour
If the qemu-system-{arch} binary for the host architecture can't be found, the old 'check' implementation selected the alphabetically first system emulator binary that it could find. The new Python implementation just uses the first result of glob.iglob(), which has an undefined order. This is a problem that breaks CI because the iotests aren't actually prepared to run on any emulator. They should be, so this is really a bug in the failing test cases that should be fixed there, but as a quick fix, let's revert to the old behaviour to let CI runs succeed again.
