c2da3413c0 block/backup: simplify backup_incremental_init_copy_bitmap
Simplify backup_incremental_init_copy_bitmap using the function
bdrv_dirty_bitmap_next_dirty_area.

Note: move to job->len instead of bitmap size: it should not matter but
less code.

9ff7f0df87 blockjob: Propagate AioContext change to all job nodes
Block jobs require that all of the nodes the job is using are in the
same AioContext. Therefore all BdrvChild objects of the job propagate
.(can_)set_aio_context to all other job nodes, so that the switch is
checked and performed consistently even if both nodes are in different
subtrees.

eb23654dbe jobs: utilize job_exit shim
Utilize the job_exit shim by not calling job_defer_to_main_loop, and
where applicable, converting the deferred callback into the job_exit
callback.

This converts backup, stream, create, and the unit tests all at once.
Most of these jobs do not see any changes to the order in which they
clean up their resources, except the test-blockjob-txn test, which
now puts down its bs before job_completed is called.

This is safe for the same reason the reordering in the mirror job is
safe, because job_completed no longer runs under two locks, making
the unref safe even if it causes a flush.

3d1f8b07a4 jobs: canonize Error object

Unify the two paths as just j->err, and remove the extra argument from

f67432a201 jobs: change start callback to run callback
Presently we codify the entry point for a job as the "start" callback,
but a more apt name would be "run" to clarify the idea that when this
function returns we consider the job to have "finished," except for
any cleanup which occurs in separate callbacks later.

As part of this clarification, change the signature to include an error
object and a return code. The error ptr is not yet used, and the return
code while captured, will be overwritten by actions in the job_completed
function.

f8d59dfb40 block/backup: fix fleecing scheme: use serialized writes
Fleecing scheme works as follows: we want a kind of temporary snapshot
of active drive A. We create temporary image B, with B->backing = A.
Then we start backup(sync=none) from A to B. From this point, B reads
as point-in-time snapshot of A (A continues to be active drive,
accepting guest IO).

This scheme needs some additional synchronization between reads from B
and backup COW operations, otherwise, the following situation is
theoretically possible:

(assume B is qcow2, client is NBD client, reading from B)

1. client starts reading and take qcow2 mutex in qcow2_co_preadv, and
   goes up to l2 table loading (assume cache miss)

2) guest write => backup COW => qcow2 write =>
   try to take qcow2 mutex => waiting

3. l2 table loaded, we see that cluster is UNALLOCATED, go to
   "case QCOW2_CLUSTER_UNALLOCATED" and unlock mutex before
   bdrv_co_preadv(bs->backing, ...)

4) aha, mutex unlocked, backup COW continues, and we finally finish
   guest write and change cluster in our active disk A

5. actually, do bdrv_co_preadv(bs->backing, ...) and read
   _new updated_ data.

To avoid this, let's make backup writes serializing, to not intersect
with reads from B.

Note: we expand range of handled cases from (sync=none and
B->backing = A) to just (A in backing chain of B), to finally allow
safe reading from B during backup for all cases when A in backing chain
of B, i.e. B formally looks like point-in-time snapshot of A.

9ded4a0114 backup: Use copy offloading
The implementation is similar to the 'qemu-img convert'. In the
beginning of the job, offloaded copy is attempted. If it fails, further
I/O will go through the existing bounce buffer code path.

Then, as Kevin pointed out, both this and qemu-img convert can benefit
from a local check if one request fails because of, for example, the
offset is beyond EOF, but another may well be accepted by the protocol
layer. This will be implemented separately.

1266c9b9f5 job: Add error message for failing jobs
So far we relied on job->ret and strerror() to produce an error message
for failed jobs. Not surprisingly, this tends to result in completely
useless messages.

This adds a Job.error field that can contain an error string for a
failing job, and a parameter to job_completed() that sets the field. As
a default, if NULL is passed, we continue to use strerror(job->ret).

All existing callers are changed to pass NULL. They can be improved in

35d6b368f2 blockjobs: ensure abort is called for cancelled jobs
Presently, even if a job is canceled post-completion as a result of
a failing peer in a transaction, it will still call .commit because
nothing has updated or changed its return code.

The reason why this does not cause problems currently is because
backup's implementation of .commit checks for cancellation itself.

I'd like to simplify this contract:

(1) Abort is called if the job/transaction fails
(2) Commit is called if the job/transaction succeeds

To this end: A job's return code, if 0, will be forcibly set as
-ECANCELED if that job has already concluded. Remove the now
redundant check in the backup job implementation.

We need to check for cancellation in both block_job_completed
AND block_job_completed_single, because jobs may be cancelled between
those two calls; for instance in transactions. This also necessitates
an ABORTING -> ABORTING transition to be allowed.

The check in block_job_completed could be removed, but there's no
point in starting to attempt to succeed a transaction that we know
in advance will fail.

This does NOT affect mirror jobs that are "canceled" during their
synchronous phase. The mirror job itself forcibly sets the canceled
property to false prior to ceding control, so such cases will invoke
the "commit" callback.

085bd08e6f backup: simplify non-dirty bits progress processing
Set fake progress for non-dirty clusters in copy_bitmap initialization,
to. It simplifies code and allows further refactoring.

This patch changes user's view of backup progress, but formally it
doesn't changed: progress hops are just moved to the beginning.

Actually it's just a point of view: when do we actually skip clusters?
We can say in the very beginning, that we skip these clusters and do
not think about them later.

Of course, if go through disk sequentially, it's logical to say, that
we skip clusters between copied portions to the left and to the right
of them. But even now copying progress is not sequential because of
write notifiers. Future patches will introduce new backup architecture
which will do copying in several coroutines in parallel, so it will
make no sense to publish fake progress by parts in parallel with
other copying requests.

f798184cfd dirty-bitmap: Change bdrv_dirty_iter_next() to report byte offset
Thanks to recent cleanups, most callers were scaling a return value
of sectors into bytes (the exception, in qcow2-bitmap, will be
converted to byte-based iteration later). Update the interface to
do the scaling internally instead.

In qcow2-bitmap, the code was specifically checking for an error
return of -1. To avoid a regression, we either have to make sure
we continue to return -1 (rather than a scaled -512) on error, or
we have to fix the caller to treat all negative values as error
rather than just one magic value. It's easy enough to make both
changes at the same time, even though either one in isolation
would work.

d6a644bbfe block: Make bdrv_is_allocated() byte-based
We are gradually moving away from sector-based interfaces, towards
byte-based. In the common case, allocation is unlikely to ever use
values that are not naturally sector-aligned, but it is possible
that byte-based values will let us be more precise about allocation
at the end of an unaligned file that can do byte-based access.

Changing the signature of the function to use int64_t *pnum ensures
that the compiler enforces that all callers are updated. For now,
the io.c layer still assert()s that all callers are sector-aligned
on input and that *pnum is sector-aligned on return to the caller,
but that can be relaxed when a later patch implements byte-based
block status. Therefore, this code adds usages like
DIV_ROUND_UP(,BDRV_SECTOR_SIZE) to callers that still want aligned
values, where the call might reasonbly give non-aligned results
in the future; on the other hand, no rounding is needed for callers
that should just continue to work with byte alignment.

For the most part this patch is just the addition of scaling at the
callers followed by inverse scaling at bdrv_is_allocated(). But
some code, particularly bdrv_commit(), gets a lot simpler because it
no longer has to mess with sectors; also, it is now possible to pass
NULL if the caller does not care how much of the image is allocated
beyond the initial offset. Leave comments where we can further
simplify once a later patch eliminates the need for sector-aligned
requests through bdrv_is_allocated().

For ease of review, bdrv_is_allocated_above() will be tackled
separately.

111049a4ec blockjob: refactor backup_start as backup_job_create
Refactor backup_start as backup_job_create, which only creates the job,
but does not automatically start it. The old interface, 'backup_start',
is not kept in favor of limiting the number of nearly-identical interfaces
that would have to be edited to keep up with QAPI changes in the future.

Callers that wish to synchronously start the backup_block_job can
instead just call block_job_start immediately after calling
backup_job_create.

Transactions are updated to use the new interface, calling block_job_start
only during the .commit phase, which helps prevent race conditions where
jobs may finish before we even finish building the transaction. This may
happen, for instance, during empty block backup jobs.

e8a40bf71d blockjob: add .clean property
Cleaning up after we have deferred to the main thread but before the
transaction has converged can be dangerous and result in deadlocks
if the job cleanup invokes any BH polling loops.

A job may attempt to begin cleaning up, but may induce another job to
enter its cleanup routine. The second job, part of our same transaction,
will block waiting for the first job to finish, so neither job may now
make progress.

To rectify this, allow jobs to register a cleanup operation that will
always run regardless of if the job was in a transaction or not, and
if the transaction job group completed successfully or not.

Move sensitive cleanup to this callback instead which is guaranteed to
be run only after the transaction has converged, which removes sensitive
timing constraints from said cleanup.

Furthermore, in future patches these cleanup operations will be performed
regardless of whether or not we actually started the job. Therefore,
cleanup callbacks should essentially confine themselves to undoing create
operations, e.g. setup actions taken in what is now backup_start.

a8bbee0edf Backup: export interfaces for extra serialization
Normal backup(sync='none') workflow:
step 1. NBD peformance I/O write from client to server
   qcow2_co_writev
    bdrv_co_writev
     ...
       bdrv_aligned_pwritev
        notifier_with_return_list_notify -> backup_do_cow
         bdrv_driver_pwritev // write new contents

step 2. drive-backup sync=none
   backup_do_cow
   {
    wait_for_overlapping_requests
    cow_request_begin
    for(; start < end; start++) {
            bdrv_co_readv_no_serialising //read old contents from Secondary disk
            bdrv_co_writev // write old contents to hidden-disk
    }
    cow_request_end
   }

step 3. Then roll back to "step 1" to write new contents to Secondary disk.

And for replication, we must make sure that we only read the old contents from
Secondary disk in order to keep contents consistent.

1) Replication workflow of Secondary
                                                         virtio-blk
                                                              ^
------->  1 NBD                                               |
   ||     server                                       3 replication
   ||        ^                                                ^
   ||        |           backing                 backing      |
   ||  Secondary disk 6<-------- hidden-disk 5 <-------- active-disk 4
   ||        |                         ^
   ||        '-------------------------'
   ||           drive-backup sync=none 2

Hence, we need these interfaces to implement coarse-grained serialization between
COW of Secondary disk and the read operation of replication.

Example codes about how to use them:

*#include "block/block_backup.h"

static coroutine_fn int xxx_co_readv()
{
        CowRequest req;
        BlockJob *job = secondary_disk->bs->job;

        if (job) {
              backup_wait_for_overlapping_requests(job, start, end);
              backup_cow_request_begin(&req, job, start, end);
              ret = bdrv_co_readv();
              backup_cow_request_end(&req);
              goto out;
        }
        ret = bdrv_co_readv();
out:
        return ret;
}

13b9414b57 drive-backup: added support for data compression
The idea is simple - backup is "written-once" data. It is written block
by block and it is large enough. It would be nice to save storage
space and compress it.

The patch adds a flag to the qmp/hmp drive-backup command which enables
block compression. Compression should be implemented in the format driver
to enable this feature.

There are some limitations of the format driver to allow compressed writes.
We can write data only once. Though for backup this is perfectly fine.
These limitations are maintained by the driver and the error will be
reported if we are doing something wrong.

0b8b8753e4 coroutine: move entry argument to qemu_coroutine_create
In practice the entry argument is always known at creation time, and
it is confusing that sometimes qemu_coroutine_enter is used with a

Mostly done with the following semantic patch:

7f0317cfc8 blockjob: Add 'job_id' parameter to block_job_create()
When a new job is created, the job ID is taken from the device name of
the BDS. This patch adds a new 'job_id' parameter to let the caller
provide one instead.

This patch also verifies that the ID is always unique and well-formed.
This causes problems in a couple of places where no ID is being set,
because the BDS does not have a device name.

In the case of test_block_job_start() (from test-blockjob-txn.c) we
can simply use this new 'job_id' parameter to set the missing ID.

In the case of img_commit() (from qemu-img.c) we still don't have the
API to make commit_active_start() set the job ID, so we solve it by
setting a default value. We'll get rid of this as soon as we extend
the API.

5ab4b69ce2 backup: follow AioContext change gracefully
Move s->target to the new AioContext when there is an AioContext change.

The backup_run() coroutine does not use asynchronous I/O so there is no
need to wait for in-flight requests in a BlockJobDriver->pause()
callback.

Guest writes are intercepted by the backup job. Treat them as guest
activity and do it even while the job is paused. This is necessary
since the only alternative would be to fail a job that experienced guest
writes during pause once the job is resumed. In practice the guest
writes don't interfere with AioContext switching since bdrv_drain() is
used by bdrv_set_aio_context().

Loops already contain pause points because of block_job_sleep_ns() calls
in the yield_and_check() helper function. It is necessary to convert a
raw qemu_coroutine_yield() to block_job_yield() so the
MIRROR_SYNC_MODE_NONE case can pause.

da34e65cb4 include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.h
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.

Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.

Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.

This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one.

4c9bca7e39 block/backup: avoid copying less than full target clusters
During incremental backups, if the target has a cluster size that is
larger than the backup cluster size and we are backing up to a target
that cannot (for whichever reason) pull clusters up from a backing image,
we may inadvertantly create unusable incremental backup images.

For example:

If the bitmap tracks changes at a 64KB granularity and we transmit 64KB
of data at a time but the target uses a 128KB cluster size, it is
possible that only half of a target cluster will be recognized as dirty
by the backup block job. When the cluster is allocated on the target
image but only half populated with data, we lose the ability to
distinguish between zero padding and uninitialized data.

This does not happen if the target image has a backing file that points
to the last known good backup.

Even if we have a backing file, though, it's likely going to be faster
to just buffer the redundant data ourselves from the live image than
fetching it from the backing file, so let's just always round up to the
target granularity.

The same logic applies to backup modes top, none, and full. Copying
fractional clusters without the guarantee of COW is dangerous, but even
if we can rely on COW, it's likely better to just re-copy the data.
