When the HPET enters legacy mode, the IRQ output of the PIT is
suppressed and replaced by the HPET timer 0. But the current code to
emulate this was broken in many ways. It reset the PIT state after
re-enabling, it worked against a stale static PIT structure, and it did
not properly saved/restored the IRQ output mask in the PIT vmstate.
This patch solves the PIT IRQ control in a different way. On x86, it
both redirects the PIT IRQ to the HPET, just like the RTC. But it also
keeps the control line from the HPET to the PIT. This allows to disable
the PIT QEMU timer when it is not needed. The PIT's view on the control
line state is now saved in the same format that qemu-kvm is already
using.
Note that, in contrast to the suppressed RTC IRQ line, we do not need to
save/restore the PIT line state in the HPET. As we trigger a PIT IRQ
update via the control line, the line state is reconstructed on mode
switch.

In legacy mode, the HPET suppresses the RTC interrupt delivery via IRQ
8 but keeps track of the RTC output level and applies it when legacy
mode is turned off again. This value has to be preserved across save/
restore as it cannot be reconstructed otherwise.
To document that a raised rtc_irq_level won't survive a vmload without
a hpet/rtc_irq_level subsection, add an explicit clearing to the reset
handler.

This was done in a mostly automated fashion. I did it in three steps and then
rebased it into a single step which avoids repeatedly touching every file in
the tree.
The first step was a sed-based addition of the parent type to the subclass
registration functions.
The second step was another sed-based removal of subclass registration functions
while also adding virtual functions from the base class into a class_init
function as appropriate.
Finally, a python script was used to convert the DeviceInfo structures and
qdev_register_subclass functions to TypeInfo structures, class_init functions,
and type_register_static calls.
We are almost fully converted to QOM after this commit.

hpet_timer timer callback rearms itself based on difference between
current HPET tick counter and comparator value. Difference calculated by
the hpet_calculate_diff function is limited to non-negative values.
cur_tick is calculated via hpet_get_ticks that uses qemu_get_clock_ns(vm_clock).
With -icount enabled vm_clock doesn't advance during qemu_run_timers
loop thus once difference is zero, qemu_run_timers loops forever
handling hpet_timer.
Limit hpet_calculate_diff results to positive only values to avoid that
infinite loop.
This fixes the following qemu-system-x86_64 hang when it reaches
timer_irq_works() in the linux bootup:

which is of course not in this patch.

Nothing prevented IRQ sharing on the ISA bus in principle. Not all
boards supported this, neither each and every card nor driver and OS.
Still, there existed valid IRQ sharing scenarios, (at least) two of them
can also be found in QEMU: >2 PC UARTs and the PREP IDE buses.
So remove this artificial restriction from our ISA model.

As stated before, devices can be little, big or native endian. The
target endianness is not of their concern, so we need to push things
down a level.
This patch adds a parameter to cpu_register_io_memory that allows a
device to choose its endianness. For now, all devices simply choose
native endian, because that's the same behavior as before.

Currently HPET ACPI table is created regardless of whether qemu actually
created hpet device. This may confuse some guests that don't check that
hpet is functional before using it. Solve this by passing info about
hpets in qemu to seabios via fw config interface. Additional benefit is
that seabios no longer uses hard coded hpet configuration. Proposed
interface supports up to 8 hpets. This is the number defined by hpet
spec.

This implements the HPET capability of routing IRQs to the front-side
bus, aka MSI support. This feature can be enabled via the qdev property
"msi" and is off by default.
Note that switching it on can cause guests (at least Linux) to use the
HPET as timer instead of the LAPIC. KVM users should recall that only
the latter is currently available as fast in-kernel model.

One HPET block supports up to 32 timers. Allow to instantiate more than
the recommended and implemented minimum of 3. The number is configured
via the qdev property "timers". It is also saved/restored so that it
need not match between migration peers.

Allow the intercept the RTC IRQ for the HPET legacy mode. Then push
routing to IRQ8 completely into the HPET. This allows to turn
hpet_in_legacy_mode() into a private function. Furthermore, this stops
the RTC from clearing IRQ8 even if the HPET is in control.
This patch comes with a side effect: The RTC timers will no longer be
stoppend when there is no IRQ consumer, possibly causing a minor
performance degration. But as the guest may want to redirect the RTC to
the SCI in that mode, it should normally disable unused IRQ source
anyway.

Register the HPET as a sysbus device and create it that way. As it can
route its IRQs to any ISA IRQ, we need to connect it to all 24 of them.
Once converted to qdev, we can move reset handler and vmstate
registration into its hands as well.

There is absolutely no need to call reset functions when initializing
devices. Since we are already registering them, calling qemu_system_reset()
should suffice. Actually, it is what happens when we reboot the machine,
and using the same process instead of a special case semantics will even
allow us to find bugs easier.
Furthermore, the fact that we initialize things like the cpu quite early,
leads to the need to introduce synchronization stuff like qemu_system_cond.
This patch removes it entirely. All we need to do is call qemu_system_reset()
only when we're already sure the system is up and running
I tested it with qemu (with and without io-thread) and qemu-kvm, and it
seems to be doing okay - although qemu-kvm uses a slightly different patch.

This patch addresses the problems found by Andriy Gapon:
- The code was incorrectly overwriting the high order 32
bits of the timer and hpet config registers. This didn't show up
in testing because linux and windows use hpet in legacy mode,
where the high order 32 bits (advertising available interrupts)
of the timer config register are ignored, and the high order 32
bits of the hpet config register are reserved and unused.
- The mask for level-triggered interrupts was off by a bit. (hpet
doesn't currently support level-triggered interrupts).
In addition, I removed some unused #defines, and corrected the ioapic
interrupt values advertised. I'd set this up early in hpet development
and never went back to correct it, and no bugs resulted since linux and
windows use hpet in legacy mode where available interrupts are ignored.

The parameter is always zero except when registering the three internal
io regions (ROM, unassigned, notdirty). Remove the parameter to reduce
the API's power, thus facilitating future change.

Add the parameter 'order' to qemu_register_reset and sort callbacks on
registration. On system reset, callbacks with lower order will be
invoked before those with higher order. Update all existing users to the
standard order 0.
Note: At least for x86, the existing users seem to assume that handlers
are called in their registration order. Therefore, the patch preserves
this property. If someone feels bored, (s)he could try to identify this
dependency and express it properly on callback registration.

While Intel's spec is not that clear here, latest changes to Linux' HPET
code (commit c23e253e67c9d8a91a0ffa33c1f571a17f0a2403, "x86: hpet: stop
HPET_COUNTER when programming periodic mode") strongly suggest that
HPET_TN_SETVAL rather means: Set _both_ the comparator value and
register.
With this patch applied, I'm again able to boot 2.6.30-rc kernels as
they no longer panic like this (which was due to the comparator
register remaining 0):

I discovered a bug in the hpet code that caused Windows to boot without
hpet. The config mask I was using was preventing the guest from placing
the hpet into 32 bit mode.

This patch adds HPET emulation. It can be disabled with -disable-hpet. An hpet
provides a more finely granular clocksource than otherwise available on PC.
This means that latency-dependent applications (e.g. multimedia) will generally
be smoother when using the HPET.
