When 32-bit addresses are in effect, we can simply read the low
32 bits of the 64-bit field. Similarly when we need to update
the field for setting TLB_NOTDIRTY.
For TCG backends that could in theory be big-endian, but in
practice are not (arm, loongarch, riscv), use QEMU_BUILD_BUG_ON
to document and ensure this is not accidentally missed.
For s390x, which is always big-endian, use HOST_BIG_ENDIAN anyway,

For sparc64 and ppc64, always perform a 64-bit load, and rely on
the following 32-bit comparison to ignore the high bits.

probe_access_flags() as it is today uses probe_access_full(), which in
turn uses probe_access_internal() with size = 0. probe_access_internal()
then uses the size to call the tlb_fill() callback for the given CPU.
This size param ('fault_size' as probe_access_internal() calls it) is
ignored by most existing .tlb_fill callback implementations, e.g.
arm_cpu_tlb_fill(), ppc_cpu_tlb_fill(), x86_cpu_tlb_fill() and
mips_cpu_tlb_fill() to name a few.
But RISC-V riscv_cpu_tlb_fill() actually uses it. The 'size' parameter
is used to check for PMP (Physical Memory Protection) access. This is
necessary because PMP does not make any guarantees about all the bytes
of the same page having the same permissions, i.e. the same page can
have different PMP properties, so we're forced to make sub-page range
checks. To allow RISC-V emulation to do a probe_acess_flags() that
covers PMP, we need to either add a 'size' param to the existing
probe_acess_flags() or create a new interface (e.g.
probe_access_range_flags).
There are quite a few probe_* APIs already, so let's add a 'size' param
to probe_access_flags() and re-use this API. This is done by open coding
what probe_access_full() does inside probe_acess_flags() and passing the
'size' param to probe_acess_internal(). Existing probe_access_flags()
callers use size = 0 to not change their current API usage. 'size' is
asserted to enforce single page access like probe_access() already does.
No behavioral changes intended.

The 'hwaddr' type is defined in "exec/hwaddr.h" as:
hwaddr is the type of a physical address
(its size can be different from 'target_ulong').
All definitions use the 'HWADDR_' prefix, except TARGET_FMT_plx:
$ fgrep define include/exec/hwaddr.h
#define HWADDR_H
#define HWADDR_BITS 64
#define HWADDR_MAX UINT64_MAX
#define TARGET_FMT_plx "%016" PRIx64
^^^^^^
#define HWADDR_PRId PRId64
#define HWADDR_PRIi PRIi64
#define HWADDR_PRIo PRIo64
#define HWADDR_PRIu PRIu64
#define HWADDR_PRIx PRIx64
#define HWADDR_PRIX PRIX64
Since hwaddr's size can be *different* from target_ulong, it is
very confusing to read one of its format using the 'TARGET_FMT_'
prefix, normally used for the target_long / target_ulong types:
$ fgrep TARGET_FMT_ include/exec/cpu-defs.h
#define TARGET_FMT_lx "%08x"
#define TARGET_FMT_ld "%d"
#define TARGET_FMT_lu "%u"
#define TARGET_FMT_lx "%016" PRIx64
#define TARGET_FMT_ld "%" PRId64
#define TARGET_FMT_lu "%" PRIu64
Apparently this format was missed during commit a8170e5e97
("Rename target_phys_addr_t to hwaddr"), so complete it by
doing a bulk-rename with:
$ sed -i -e s/TARGET_FMT_plx/HWADDR_FMT_plx/g $(git grep -l TARGET_FMT_plx)

If low-address-protection is active, unaligned stores to non-protected
parts of lowcore lead to protection exceptions. The reason is that in
such cases tlb_fill() call in store_helper_unaligned() covers
[0, addr + size) range, which contains the protected portion of
lowcore. This range is too large.
The most straightforward fix would be to make sure we stay within the
original [addr, addr + size) range. However, if an unaligned access
affects a single page, we don't need to call tlb_fill() in
store_helper_unaligned() at all, since it would be identical to
the previous tlb_fill() call in store_helper(), and therefore a no-op.
If an unaligned access covers multiple pages, this situation does not
occur.
Therefore simply skip TLB handling in store_helper_unaligned() if we
are dealing with a single page.

When the length of the range is large enough, clearing the whole cache is
faster than iterating over the (possibly extremely large) set of pages

This mimics the pre-existing similar optimization done on the flush of the

we cannot in principle make the TCG Operations field definitions
conditional on CONFIG_TCG in code that is included by both common_ss
and specific_ss modules.
Therefore, what we can do safely to restrict the TCG fields to TCG-only
builds, is to move all tcg cpu operations into a separate header file,
which is only included by TCG, target-specific code.
This leaves just a NULL pointer in the cpu.h for the non-TCG builds.
This also tidies up the code in all targets a bit, having all TCG cpu
operations neatly contained by a dedicated data struct.

clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type
pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a
compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file
that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file:
$ CC=clang CXX=clang++ ./configure ... && make
../util/async.c:79:17: error: address argument to atomic operation must be a pointer to _Atomic type ('unsigned int *' invalid)
Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is
used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h
and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and
searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none.
This patch was generated using:
$ git grep -h -o '\<atomic\(64\)\?_[a-z0-9_]\+' include/qemu/atomic.h | \
sort -u >/tmp/changed_identifiers
$ for identifier in $(</tmp/changed_identifiers); do
sed -i "s%\<$identifier\>%q$identifier%g" \
$(git grep -I -l "\<$identifier\>")
done

This has no functional change.
The current function structure is:
inline QEMU_ALWAYSINLINE
store_memop() {
switch () {
...
default:
qemu_build_not_reached();
}
}
inline QEMU_ALWAYSINLINE
store_helper() {
...
if (span_two_pages_or_io) {
...
helper_ret_stb_mmu();
}
store_memop();
}
helper_ret_stb_mmu() {
store_helper();
}
Whereas GCC will generate an error at compile-time when an always_inline
function is not inlined, Clang does not. Nor does Clang prioritize the
inlining of always_inline functions. Both of these are arguably bugs.
Both `store_memop` and `store_helper` need to be inlined and allow
constant propogations to eliminate the `qemu_build_not_reached` call.
However, if the compiler instead chooses to inline helper_ret_stb_mmu
into store_helper, then store_helper is now self-recursive and the
compiler is no longer able to propagate the constant in the same way.
This does not produce at current QEMU head, but was reproducible
at v4.2.0 with `clang-10 -O2 -fexperimental-new-pass-manager`.
The inline recursion problem can be fixed solely by marking
helper_ret_stb_mmu as noinline, so the compiler does not make an
incorrect decision about which functions to inline.
In addition, extract store_helper_unaligned as a noinline subroutine
that can be shared by all of the helpers. This saves about 6k code
size in an optimized x86_64 build.

With Makefiles that have automatically generated dependencies, you
generated includes are set as dependencies of the Makefile, so that they
are built before everything else and they are available when first
building the .c files.
Alternatively you can use a fine-grained dependency, e.g.
target/arm/translate.o: target/arm/decode-neon-shared.inc.c
With Meson you have only one choice and it is a third option, namely
"build at the beginning of the corresponding target"; the way you
express it is to list the includes in the sources of that target.
The problem is that Meson decides if something is a source vs. a
generated include by looking at the extension: '.c', '.cc', '.m', '.C'
are sources, while everything else is considered an include---including
'.inc.c'.
Use '.c.inc' to avoid this, as it is consistent with our other convention
of using '.rst.inc' for included reStructuredText files. The editorconfig
file is adjusted.
Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing
the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using
$(build_root)/$(<D).
In order to keep the include directives unchanged,
the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like
"trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree
such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h".
This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only
a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the
Meson rewrite of the tracing logic.
