We have a use case (vfio-ccw) where a CRW is already built and
ready to use. Rather than teasing out the components just to
reassemble it later, let's rework this code so we can queue a
fully-qualified CRW directly.

The schib region can be used to obtain the latest SCHIB from the host
passthrough subchannel. Since the guest SCHIB is virtualized,
we currently only update the path related information so that the
guest is aware of any path related changes when it issues the
'stsch' instruction.

init_event_facility() creates the SCLP events bus with two SCLP event
devices (sclpquiesce and sclp-cpu-hotplug). It leaves the devices
unrealized. A comment explains they will be realized "via the bus".
The bus's realize method sclp_events_bus_realize() indeed realizes all
unrealized devices on this bus. It carries a TODO comment claiming
this "has to be done in common code". No other bus realize method
realizes its devices.
The common code in question is bus_set_realized(), which has a TODO
comment asking for recursive realization. It's been asking for years.
The only devices sclp_events_bus_realize() will ever realize are the
two init_event_facility() puts there.
Simplify as follows:
* Make the devices members of the event facility instance struct, just
like the bus. object_initialize_child() is simpler than
object_property_add_child() and object_unref().
* Realize them in the event facility realize method.
This is in line with how such things are done elsewhere.

In addition to the qdev_create() patterns converted so far, we have a
qdev_set_parent_bus() pattern. Mostly when we embed a device in a
parent device rather than allocating it on the heap.
This pattern also puts devices in the dangerous "no QOM parent, but
plugged into bus" state I explained in recent commit "qdev: New
qdev_new(), qdev_realize(), etc."

[Trivial rebase conflict in hw/s390x/sclp.c resolved]
Devices may have component devices and buses.
Device realization may fail. Realization is recursive: a device's
realize() method realizes its components, and device_set_realized()
realizes its buses (which should in turn realize the devices on that
bus, except bus_set_realized() doesn't implement that, yet).
When realization of a component or bus fails, we need to roll back:
unrealize everything we realized so far. If any of these unrealizes
failed, the device would be left in an inconsistent state. Must not
happen.
device_set_realized() lets it happen: it ignores errors in the roll
back code starting at label child_realize_fail.
Since realization is recursive, unrealization must be recursive, too.
But how could a partly failed unrealize be rolled back? We'd have to
re-realize, which can fail. This design is fundamentally broken.
device_set_realized() does not roll back at all. Instead, it keeps
unrealizing, ignoring further errors.
It can screw up even for a device with no buses: if the lone
dc->unrealize() fails, it still unregisters vmstate, and calls
listeners' unrealize() callback.
bus_set_realized() does not roll back either. Instead, it stops
unrealizing.
Fortunately, no unrealize method can fail, as we'll see below.
To fix the design error, drop parameter @errp from all the unrealize
methods.
Any unrealize method that uses @errp now needs an update. This leads
us to unrealize() methods that can fail. Merely passing it to another
unrealize method cannot cause failure, though. Here are the ones that
do other things with @errp:
* virtio_serial_device_unrealize()
Fails when qbus_set_hotplug_handler() fails, but still does all the
other work. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
resources completely gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
qbus_set_hotplug_handler() can't actually fail here. Pass
&error_abort to qbus_set_hotplug_handler() instead.
* hw/ppc/spapr_drc.c's unrealize()
Fails when object_property_del() fails, but all the other work is
already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
vmstate registration gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
object_property_del() can't actually fail here. Pass &error_abort
to object_property_del() instead.
* spapr_phb_unrealize()
Fails and bails out when remove_drcs() fails, but other work is
already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with some
of its resources gone. Oops. remove_drcs() fails only when
chassis_from_bus()'s object_property_get_uint() fails, and it can't
here. Pass &error_abort to remove_drcs() instead.
Therefore, no unrealize method can fail before this patch.
device_set_realized()'s recursive unrealization via bus uses
object_property_set_bool(). Can't drop @errp there, so pass
&error_abort.
We similarly unrealize with object_property_set_bool() elsewhere,
always ignoring errors. Pass &error_abort instead.
Several unrealize methods no longer handle errors from other unrealize
methods: virtio_9p_device_unrealize(),
virtio_input_device_unrealize(), scsi_qdev_unrealize(), ...
Much of the deleted error handling looks wrong anyway.
One unrealize methods no longer ignore such errors:
usb_ehci_pci_exit().
Several realize methods no longer ignore errors when rolling back:
v9fs_device_realize_common(), pci_qdev_unrealize(),
spapr_phb_realize(), usb_qdev_realize(), vfio_ccw_realize(),
virtio_device_realize().

The only way object_property_add() can fail is when a property with
the same name already exists. Since our property names are all
hardcoded, failure is a programming error, and the appropriate way to
handle it is passing &error_abort.
Same for its variants, except for object_property_add_child(), which
additionally fails when the child already has a parent. Parentage is
also under program control, so this is a programming error, too.
We have a bit over 500 callers. Almost half of them pass
&error_abort, slightly fewer ignore errors, one test case handles
errors, and the remaining few callers pass them to their own callers.
The previous few commits demonstrated once again that ignoring
programming errors is a bad idea.
Of the few ones that pass on errors, several violate the Error API.
The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a
pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the
latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call. ich9_pm_add_properties(), sparc32_ledma_realize(),
sparc32_dma_realize(), xilinx_axidma_realize(), xilinx_enet_realize()
are wrong that way.
When the one appropriate choice of argument is &error_abort, letting
users pick the argument is a bad idea.
Drop parameter @errp and assert the preconditions instead.
There's one exception to "duplicate property name is a programming
error": the way object_property_add() implements the magic (and
undocumented) "automatic arrayification". Don't drop @errp there.
Instead, rename object_property_add() to object_property_try_add(),
and add the obvious wrapper object_property_add().

[Two semantic rebase conflicts resolved]
object_property_set_description() and
object_class_property_set_description() fail only when property @name
is not found.
There are 85 calls of object_property_set_description() and
object_class_property_set_description(). None of them can fail:
* 84 immediately follow the creation of the property.
* The one in spapr_rng_instance_init() refers to a property created in
spapr_rng_class_init(), from spapr_rng_properties[].
Every one of them still gets to decide what to pass for @errp.
51 calls pass &error_abort, 32 calls pass NULL, one receives the error
and propagates it to &error_abort, and one propagates it to
&error_fatal. I'm actually surprised none of them violates the Error
API.
What are we gaining by letting callers handle the "property not found"
error? Use when the property is not known to exist is simpler: you
don't have to guard the call with a check. We haven't found such a
use in 5+ years. Until we do, let's make life a bit simpler and drop
the @errp parameter.

In case the protection of the machine fails at s390_pv_vm_enable(),
we'll currently report the local_error variable. Problem is that
there's no migration blocker error that we can report at this point so
the pointer is always NULL which leads to a SEGFAULT.
Let's remove the error report.

SCLP for a protected guest is done over the SIDAD, so we need to use
the s390_cpu_pv_mem_* functions to access the SIDAD instead of guest
memory when reading/writing SCBs.
To not confuse the sclp emulation, we set 0x4000 as the SCCB address,
since the function that injects the sclp external interrupt would
reject a zero sccb address.

Ballooning in protected VMs can only be done when the guest shares the
pages it gives to the host. If pages are not shared, the integrity
checks will fail once those pages have been altered and are given back
to the guest.
As we currently do not yet have a solution for this we will continue
like this:
1. We block ballooning now in QEMU (with this patch).
2. Later we will provide a change to virtio that removes the blocker
and adds VIRTIO_F_IOMMU_PLATFORM automatically by QEMU when doing the
protvirt switch. This is OK, as the balloon driver in Linux (the only
supported guest) will refuse to work with the IOMMU_PLATFORM feature
bit set.
3. Later, we can fix the guest balloon driver to accept the IOMMU
feature bit and correctly exercise sharing and unsharing of balloon
pages.

The unpack facility provides the means to setup a protected guest. A
protected guest cannot be introspected by the hypervisor or any
user/administrator of the machine it is running on.
Protected guests are encrypted at rest and need a special boot
mechanism via diag308 subcode 8 and 10.
Code 8 sets the PV specific IPLB which is retained separately from
those set via code 5.
Code 10 is used to unpack the VM into protected memory, verify its
integrity and start it.

Older QEMU versions did fixup the ram size to match what can be reported
via sclp. We need to mimic this behaviour for machine types 4.2 and
older to not fail on inbound migration for memory sizes that do not fit.
Old machines with proper aligned memory sizes are not affected.

Suggested action is to replace unaligned -m value with a suitable
aligned one or if a change to a newer machine type is possible, use a
machine version >= 5.0.
A future version might remove the compatibility handling.
For machine types >= 5.0 we can simply use an increment size of 1M and
use the full range of increment number which allows for all possible
memory sizes. The old limitation of having a maximum of 1020 increments
was added for standby memory, which we no longer support. With that we
can now support even weird memory sizes like 10001234 MB.
As we no longer fixup maxram_size as well, make other users use ram_size
instead. Keep using maxram_size when setting the maximum ram size in KVM,
as that will come in handy in the future when supporting memory hotplug
(in contrast, storage keys and storage attributes for hotplugged memory
will have to be migrated per RAM block in the future).

declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible
array member [1], introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler
warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the
structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined
behavior bugs from being unadvertenly introduced [2] to the
Linux codebase from now on.

We expose loadparm as a r/w machine property, but if loadparm is set by
the guest via DIAG 308, we don't update the property. Having a
disconnect between the guest view and the QEMU property is not nice in
itself, but things get even worse for SCSI, where under certain
circumstances (see 789b5a401b "s390: Ensure IPL from SCSI works as
expected" for details) we call s390_gen_initial_iplb() on resets
effectively overwriting the guest/user supplied loadparm with the stale
value.

Let's rename PSW_MASK_ESA_ADDR to PSW_MASK_SHORT_ADDR because we're
not working with a ESA PSW which would not support the extended
addressing bit. Also let's actually use it.
Additionally we introduce PSW_MASK_SHORT_CTRL and use it throughout
the codebase.

The address_space_rw() function allows either reads or writes
depending on the is_write argument passed to it; this is useful
when the direction of the access is determined programmatically
(as for instance when handling the KVM_EXIT_MMIO exit reason).
Under the hood it just calls either address_space_write() or
address_space_read_full().
We also use it a lot with a constant is_write argument, though,
which has two issues:
* when reading "address_space_rw(..., 1)" this is less
immediately clear to the reader as being a write than
"address_space_write(...)"
* calling address_space_rw() bypasses the optimization
in address_space_read() that fast-paths reads of a
fixed length

memory_region_allocate_system_memory() API is going away, so
replace it with memdev allocated MemoryRegion. The later is
initialized by generic code, so board only needs to opt in
to memdev scheme by providing
MachineClass::default_ram_id
and using MachineState::ram instead of manually initializing
RAM memory region.

Replace deprecated qdev_reset_all by resettable_cold_reset_fn for
the ipl registration in the main reset handlers.
This does not impact the behavior for the following reasons:
+ at this point resettable just call the old reset methods of devices
and buses in the same order than qdev/qbus.
+ resettable handlers registered with qemu_register_reset are
serialized; there is no interleaving.
+ eventual explicit calls to legacy reset API (device_reset or
qdev/qbus_reset) inside this reset handler will not be masked out
by resettable mechanism; they do not go through resettable api.

Provide a temporary device_legacy_reset function doing what
device_reset does to prepare for the transition with Resettable
API.
All occurrence of device_reset in the code tree are also replaced
by device_legacy_reset.
The new resettable API has different prototype and semantics
(resetting child buses as well as the specified device). Subsequent
commits will make the changeover for each call site individually; once
that is complete device_legacy_reset() will be removed.

While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to
detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch,
this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of
the executable in question. The change expands functionality of
the following functions:
- load_elf()
- load_elf_as()
- load_elf_ram()
- load_elf_ram_sym()
The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of
type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word'
being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit
variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that
argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will
happen, and no information will be returned, of course.

We currently check (by error) if the passed-in Error pointer errp
is non-null and return after realizing the first child of the
event facility in that case. Symptom is that 'virsh shutdown'
does not work, as the sclpquiesce device is not realized.
Fix this by (correctly) checking the local Error err.

If the kernel irqchip has been disabled, we don't want the
{add,release}_adapter_routes routines to call any kvm_irqchip_*
interfaces, as they may rely on an irqchip actually having been
created. Just take a quick exit in that case instead. If you are
trying to use irqfd without a kernel irqchip, we will fail with
an error.
Also initialize routes->gsi[] with -1 in the virtio-ccw handling,
to make sure we don't trip over other errors, either. (Nobody
else uses the gsi array in that structure.)

can be replaced by 'return'.
The 'out' label from read_event_data() can also be replaced.
However, as suggested by Cornelia Huck, instead of simply
replacing the 'out' label, let's also change the code flow
a bit to make it clearer that sccb events are always handled
regardless of the mask for unconditional reads, while selective
reads are handled if the mask is valid.

sclp_events_bus_realize() dereferences @errp when
object_property_set_bool() fails. That's wrong; see the big comment
in error.h. Introduced in commit f6102c329c "s390/sclp: rework sclp

The initiating cpu needs to be reset with an initial reset. While
doing a normal reset followed by a initial reset is not wrong per se,
the Ultravisor will only allow the correct reset to be performed.

Virtio spec 1.1 (and earlier), 5.2.5.2 Driver Requirements: Device
Initialization:
"Devices SHOULD always offer VIRTIO_BLK_F_FLUSH, and MUST offer it if
they offer VIRTIO_BLK_F_CONFIG_WCE"
Currently F_CONFIG_WCE and F_WCE are not connected to each other.
Qemu will advertise F_CONFIG_WCE if config-wce argument is
set for virtio-blk device. And F_WCE is advertised only if
underlying block backend actually has it's caching enabled.
Fix this by advertising F_WCE if F_CONFIG_WCE is also advertised.
To preserve backwards compatibility with newer machine types make this
behaviour governed by "x-enable-wce-if-config-wce" virtio-blk-device
property and introduce hw_compat_4_2 with new property being off by
default for all machine types <= 4.2 (but don't introduce 4.3
machine type itself yet).

s390 was trying to solve limited KVM memslot size issue by abusing
memory_region_allocate_system_memory(), which breaks API contract
where the function might be called only once.
Beside an invalid use of API, the approach also introduced migration
issue, since RAM chunks for each KVM_SLOT_MAX_BYTES are transferred in
migration stream as separate RAMBlocks.
After discussion [1], it was agreed to break migration from older
QEMU for guest with RAM >8Tb (as it was relatively new (since 2.12)
and considered to be not actually used downstream).
Migration should keep working for guests with less than 8TB and for
more than 8TB with QEMU 4.2 and newer binary.
In case user tries to migrate more than 8TB guest, between incompatible
QEMU versions, migration should fail gracefully due to non-exiting
RAMBlock ID or RAMBlock size mismatch.
Taking in account above and that now KVM code is able to split too
big MemorySection into several memslots, partially revert commit
(bb223055b s390-ccw-virtio: allow for systems larger that 7.999TB)
and use kvm_set_max_memslot_size() to set KVMSlot size to
KVM_SLOT_MAX_BYTES.

The fix in dbe9cf606c shrinks the IOMMU memory region to a size
that seems reasonable on the surface, however is actually too
small as it is based against a 0-mapped address space. This
causes breakage with small guests as they can overrun the IOMMU window.
Let's go back to the prior method of initializing iommu for now.

Preparation for collapsing the two byte swaps adjust_endianness and
handle_bswap into the former.
Call memory_region_dispatch_{read|write} with endianness encoded into
the "MemOp op" operand.
This patch does not change any behaviour as
memory_region_dispatch_{read|write} is yet to handle the endianness.
Once it does handle endianness, callers with byte swaps can collapse
them into adjust_endianness.

Temporarily no-op size_memop was introduced to aid the conversion of
memory_region_dispatch_{read|write} operand "unsigned size" into
"MemOp op".
Now size_memop is implemented, again hard coded size but with
MO_{8|16|32|64}. This is more expressive and avoids size_memop calls.

The memory_region_dispatch_{read|write} operand "unsigned size" is
being converted into a "MemOp op".
Convert interfaces by using no-op size_memop.
After all interfaces are converted, size_memop will be implemented
and the memory_region_dispatch_{read|write} operand "unsigned size"
will be converted into a "MemOp op".
As size_memop is a no-op, this patch does not change any behaviour.

Add 4.2 machine types for arm/i440fx/q35/s390x/spapr.
For i440fx and q35, unversioned cpu models are still translated
to -v1, as 0788a56bd1 ("i386: Make unversioned CPU models be
aliases") states this should only transition to the latest cpu
model version in 4.3 (or later).

sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related
to the system-emulator. Evidence:
* It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing
sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600
objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on
qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits).
* It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers.
Split stuff related to run state management into its own header
sysemu/runstate.h.
Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h
also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400
to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects.
Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also
add qemu/main-loop.h.

In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a
recompile of some 1800 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the
previous commit).
Several headers include sysemu/sysemu.h just to get typedef
VMChangeStateEntry. Move it from sysemu/sysemu.h to qemu/typedefs.h.
Spell its structure tag the same while there. Drop the now
superfluous includes of sysemu/sysemu.h from headers.
Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 1100 objects.
qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1800 to 1100, and
qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 5000 to 4400.

In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a
recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).
Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete
them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one
from char/serial.h to char/serial.c.
hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and
stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without
including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway.
This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into
widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that.

hw/boards.h pulls in almost 60 headers. The less we include it into
headers, the better. As a first step, drop superfluous inclusions,
and downgrade some more to what's actually needed. Gets rid of just
one inclusion into a header.

In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers
a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).
Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h)
actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there
instead.
hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h
and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h.
Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h.
While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h.
Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects.

The global smp variables in s390x are replaced with smp machine properties.
A local variable of the same name would be introduced in the declaration
phase if it's used widely in the context OR replace it on the spot if it's

To get rid of the global smp_* variables we're currently using, it's recommended
to pass MachineState in the list of incoming parameters for functions that use
global smp variables, thus some redundant parameters are dropped. It's applied

A vfio-ccw device may provide an async command subregion for
issuing halt/clear subchannel requests. If it is present, use

Other accelerators have their own headers: sysemu/hax.h, sysemu/hvf.h,
sysemu/kvm.h, sysemu/whpx.h. Only tcg_enabled() & friends sit in
qemu-common.h. This necessitates inclusion of qemu-common.h into
headers, which is against the rules spelled out in qemu-common.h's
file comment.
Move tcg_enabled() & friends into their own header sysemu/tcg.h, and
adjust #include directives.

Rename qemu_getrampagesize() to qemu_minrampagesize(). While at it,
properly rename find_max_supported_pagesize() to
find_min_backend_pagesize().
s390x is actually interested into the maximum ram pagesize, so
introduce and use qemu_maxrampagesize().
Add a TODO, indicating that looking at any mapped memory backends is not
100% correct in some cases.

Right now we configure the pagesize quite early, when initializing KVM.
This is long before system memory is actually allocated via
memory_region_allocate_system_memory(), and therefore memory backends
marked as mapped.
Instead, let's configure the maximum page size after initializing
memory in s390_memory_init(). cap_hpage_1m is still properly
configured before creating any CPUs, and therefore before configuring
the CPU model and eventually enabling CMMA.
This is not a fix but rather a preparation for the future, when initial
memory might reside on memory backends (not the case for s390x right now)
We will replace qemu_getrampagesize() soon by a function that will always
return the maximum page size (not the minimum page size, which only
works by pure luck so far, as there are no memory backends).

Add bootindex property and iplb data for vfio-ccw devices. This allows us to
forward boot information into the bios for vfio-ccw devices.
Refactor s390_get_ccw_device() to return device type. This prevents us from
having to use messy casting logic in several places.

Almost all of these are just done for convenience to avoid
typing out long variable/field names when referencing struct
members. We can get most of this convenience by taking the
address of the 'struct SCHIB' instead, avoiding triggering
the compiler warnings.
In a couple of places we copy via a local variable which is
a technique already applied elsewhere in s390 code for this
problem.

Not all interrupt controllers have a working implementation of
message-signalled interrupts; in some cases, the guest may expect
MSI to work but it won't due to the buggy or lacking emulation.
In QEMU this is represented by the "msi_nonbroken" variable. This
patch adds a new configuration symbol enabled whenever the binary
contains an interrupt controller that will set "msi_nonbroken". We
can then use it to remove devices that cannot be possibly added
to the machine, because they require MSI.
